Several of the stars are presenting their own ticketed concerts and shows during the weekend, including some that are in intimate (aka smaller) venues, so advance tickets are wise. And virtually all of the guests will be participating in larger portions of the weekend, some of which are also ticketed, but many of which are free.<\/p>\n

Also booked to perform are the VW Boys, Michael Hoover and his “Memories of Elvis” show, the Malpass Brothers, Balsam Range, The Tams, The Lisemby Family, and James Gregory (“the funniest man in America”). Neal Brower will also be presenting his popular Professor Brower’s Lecture.<\/p>\n

IT’S CHEW TIME–Ron Howard recently tweeted this photo from work on the still untitled Han Solo movie. Follow Ron on Twitter @RealRonHoward.<\/p><\/div>\n

As every being in every galaxy (whether near or far, far away) knows by now, Ron Howard<\/strong> has been brought in mid-filming to save the new Han Solo Star Wars<\/em> film, which had gotten off course with its previous directing team. There’s a general consensus that Han is in very good hands with Ron as solo director.\u00a0 The film is still slated for release during Memorial Day Weekend 2018.<\/p>\n

A new season of “Arrested Development” is now filming.\u00a0 Ron returns as the narrator. He’s also slated to return in at least one cameo as himself in the second season of the critically acclaimed “This Is Us,” a smash hit for NBC-TV last season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It has been announced (by his brother) that Clint Howard <\/strong>will be in the Han Solo movie.\u00a0 The exact role is still under wraps. (Maybe fans can wheedle some details out of Clint at Mayberry Days!) Fans can also expect to search for Ron’s wife, Cheryl, in a cameo role, as she is in all of Ron’s movies.

Betty Lynn <\/strong>participated in a sold-out lecture with Neal Brower for a specialty tour group at the Andy Griffith Museum in July. And she continues to greet fans and sign autographs every third Friday at the Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy.<\/p>\n

WHITE ON!–Popular picker Roland White picked for Hall of Fame.<\/p><\/div>\n

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) announced on July 26 that Roland White<\/strong> (the mandolin-playing member of the Country Boys in the “Mayberry on Record” episode) will be inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame during the IBMA Awards, which will be held in Raleigh, N.C., on September 28. Roland’s brother Clarence, the late legendary guitar player who appeared in the same TAGS episode and also in “Quiet Sam” (Roland was absent from the latter, because he joined the Air Force), was a 2016 inductee.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Starting a chapter of TAGSRWC is easy to do.\u00a0 Just pick a name that hasn’t already been selected by another group.\u00a0 For example, a new chapter is currently being pondered for Orlando, but the group’s first choice for a name (Eagle-Eye Annie) was already taken, so they’re having to cast again.<\/p>\n

**** Chapter News ***<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Barney<\/strong> chapter (Greensboro, N.C.) continues to hold monthly meetings as they celebrate the 25th year of the current iteration of the chapter, which was actually founded 35 years ago (and still includes one of the original founders).<\/p>\n

Members of Andy<\/strong> chapter (Nashville, Tenn.) were able to attend the July Barney meeting after also having spent the day with a Barney member visiting Mayberry sites in Raleigh (the original TAGS TV Land Landmark at Pullen Park) and Siler City (Frances Bavier’s home and gravesite, where, yes, they found two jars of pickles, albeit store-bought, left by previous visitors).\u00a0 The same group also got in visit to Mount Airy and the remodeled Andy Griffith Museum.<\/p>\n

The Andy members also couldn’t resist getting in a visit with the “Compelsion Nuts”<\/strong> of Kingsport, Tenn., on the same trip.\u00a0 It helped that everyone shared a compelsion for breakfast at Cracker Barrel.<\/p>\n

THE ELIXIR OF MAYBERRY FELLOWSHIP–Members of “Trivial Trivialties” chapter (Georgetown, S.C.) held their summer meeting in July. Trained noticers might spot a Colonel Harvey tribute artist incognito.<\/p><\/div>\n

“‘Course, I Don’t Fix ‘Em; I Just Put in the Gas”<\/strong> chapter (Oil City, Ontario) is already making plans to catch the Mayberry Christmas<\/em> show when the tour makes a stop in Nashville in December (see Floyd’s bulletin board above). Sounds like a good plan for fans on both sides of the border!<\/p>\n

Mayberry<\/strong> chapter (Knoxville, Tenn.) published its Mayberry Minutes<\/em> newsletter (another 16-pager in full color) in July and they held their annual lake party in August.\u00a0 Some loons definitely were seen and heard there–and they weren’t necessarily coming from the direction of the lake!<\/p>\n

Several\u00a0 members of Mayberry chapter also attended the Mayberry Meet-Up in Mount Airy in July (see the photo later in this issue).\u00a0 And the group will participate in their local Tennessee Valley Fair on Sept. 16, and then some members will head to Mount Airy for Mayberry Days (along members of dozens of other chapters!) the following week.<\/p>\n

Two Chairs, No Waiting<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>is our weekly podcast of TAGS news, interviews and pretty much whatever happens to be going on in and around Mayberry. It’s hosted by Allan Newsome.\u00a0Most weeks also include a Mayberry History Lesson from special correspondent\u00a0Randy Turner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There’s a new episode every Tuesday (and you can watch and listen live during tapings on Monday evenings). Past episodes are in an online Archives in case you want to listen to or view classic installments you’ve missed. (There have been 443 episodes since Allan started the podcasts in 2008.)<\/p>\n

Between issues of The eBullet<\/em>, keep up with all the happenings in Mayberry with the daily Who’s Been Messin’ Up the Bulletin Board?<\/a> <\/strong>(aka “WBMUTBB?”) Digest<\/em>. It’s a free<\/strong> subscriber list that consists entirely of comments, newsflashes, and questions and answers from subscribers. And TAGSRWC publishes Weaver’s Newsletter<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>in alternate months to The eBullet<\/em>. Like The eBullet<\/em>, the Weaver’s Newsletter<\/em> is free. Its focus is tilted a little more to Mayberry merchandise and collectibles and quick newsflashes.
