December 05, 2012 - Msg 91391: Mr. Tom, I'm sorry that you can't count on the family to help you out. That's really too bad. Does your stepdad use a walker? Does he have one? That would probably help keep him from falling. Do you have anyone that comes in to help with him, like a visiting nurse? If not, talk to his doctor and see if they can arrange that. Those people can help you a lot, and can also show you the best ways to handle him when you have to do it by yourself.
It's beautiful here, just 63°, sunny and bright. Makes the leaves look even prettier, with the sunlight coming through them. I love this time of year. I know I've talked about it before, but I really do like it. The weeds have given up for now, the grass is growing very slowly and doesn't clamor for attention, and there's a layer of leaves everywhere, and I don't care! It's fall, there should be leaves! The yard and everything in it is sort of winding down, snuggling in for the winter. Still some diehard flowers blooming, and they look so pretty. It's just such a peaceful, restful time of year, a time of reflection and repose, and anticipation as we await Christmas. I love it!

Merry Christmas to yall. I recently went to Jimmy Fortune's (tenor for the Statler Brothers) Christmas show. He sang "Mary Did You Know" and "O Holy Night" beautifully in Marion, VA about 90 minutes from Mayberry. Also went to see The Oak Ridge Boys and The Isaacs' Christmas shows. Christmas music helps to put me in the Christmas Spirit. I thank The Lord for all of you and my memories of good times in Mayberry. I think the Christmas Story episode is a true reflection of Christmases when I was a little girl. As Andy says, "We're gonna sang and laugh." And eat too!!! And sing "Away in a Manger." Doing last minute Christmas prep around here but not wearing myself out. I actually took a catnap this afternoon and it was great!
Erin, Amy, and Baby Jonah are coming over this evening for pizza and they have some gifts they stored over here that they want to wrap.
Sean and Bruce are very much better and I never picked up the flu they had, thankfully. Thank you all for the prayers.

This show has been a part of my life for over 10 years solid. I watch it every day. It never gets old. Not one episode. Andy’s ability to stay calm and find a clever way to solve issues and at the same time staying true to basic moral principles is always a breath of fresh air. It centers me and reminds me not to judge a situation too hastefully.I often think “What would Andy do?”. I would trade all of the modern conveniences and technology to go to a time and place like Mayberry. In comparison to Mayberry our modern society seems like a hellish horror story.
