November 19, 2025 - Msg 121059: PORCH MEMORY:

November 21, 2012 - Msg 91167: Pretty much the same way you described, Boo, except I've never used brown sugar, and would only use 3/4 cup of regular sugar, in deference to my diabetes. It leaves it a bit tart, but I like it that way. I might put 1/4 cup of brown sugar in it, and cut the white sugar to 1/2 cup. I'll bet the brown sugar gives it an interesting taste. I have some turbinado sugar, I'll bet that would work too. I'm with you, I much prefer the homemade kind, but I usually buy one can of the jellied stuff, for those who just think they have to have it. I even cut out both ends of the can so I can get it out whole and unbroken, then slice it into elegant little slices (a left-over practice from my mom), but I never eat it. Too sweet, and I like the whole-berry, homemade kind. Sometimes, in addition to the orange zest, I use a little tool I have and cut long curls from the peel, and lay them on top of the sauce after it's in its bowl. Makes a pretty dish.

I'm planning to make a German's Sweet Chocolate cake, if I can manage it, with all else there is to do. Wish I didn't have to go to PT in the morning, so I could get the house spruced up, but PT is helping to build my strength, so I'll go. Thursday I'll be at Terri's for dinner, which just leaves me Friday to get ready for the dinner I'm making on Saturday. I bought some of the groceries this afternoon - the things they typically run out of. I'll go again on Friday to get the rest of it. With my finances as tight as they are right now, being on 60% of my pay since June, I had to wait for the rest of it until Friday, after my check is deposited. I guess I could have gotten it all, but it would have really left me low on cash, and besides, I was worn out and wanted to just get out of that store!

Well, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow will be a busy day. Blessings, folks! --Romeena

November 25, 2025 - Msg 121076: Hello friends, just wanted to jump on and fill you in on some things. Bruce has been in the heart hospital since last Friday. He was having chest pain at work and the took him to the ER where he was admitted and the various tests done. Good news is that he did not have a heart attack. Bad news is that he is completely blocked up in three different coronary arteries. They gave him a choice of stents or bypass surgery and he chose the stents. They were planning to do it today but his kidney function is not good due to the contrast they inject during the tests. He has chronic kidney disease and his numbers dont look good since the tests. the cardiologist is being very careful and doing some things that might improve the numbers by tomorrow afternoon, like giving IV fluids to flush the kidneys. If the numbers are better tomorrow they will attempt to stent one of the vessels, using a minimum amount of the contrast dye. They would send him home and let the kidneys rest for a month, and then do another stent. So, it would all be done in stages. I think the doc is making the right choice because he is not having chest pain at this point and his labs look good as far as no sign of a heart attack. He is just tired of being in the hospital. Please lift a prayer that all goes well and that he is able to go home soon. Thanks! I will keep you updated.

November 28, 2025 - Msg 121086: Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. Bruce got to come home but still has not had the stents put in because his kidney function is not yet good enough. They are going to attempt to place one stent on Friday and then the other two a week or two later to prevent exposure of the kidneys to too much of the contrast. In the meantime, he is staying home, resting, no stress and taking blood thinners. He has no chest pain since last Friday when he was pushing himself and too stressed at work. He is taking off the month of December to get everything taking care of and will be going back to work with medical restrictions and see how he does. I want him to go ahead and retire but he is stubborn and wants to work one more year to get back some of his retirement investment that was lost over the past few years. Thank you for the prayers.

sure if he is still amongst the living or not.
Hang in there. I wish more folks would post,

this format, simple as it is, may have a shelf life.
I sure hope not however, as I have really loved this porch! :)
God bless you all, Prayers,

December 02, 2025 - Msg 121093: No changes to my address, MDC. I plan on sending Christmas cards as always.
The porch may not be as full as it used to be but it still matters and the folks left on it are very important to me. Its been such a wonderful place to be even after nearly 24 years now.

The weather has been wonderful and cold for a Texan this week but I love it, as you all know. Havent done all the christmas decorating yet but hopefully will get it done soon.
I took Bruce out of the house today on this beautiful, cool and sunny day. We took a drive to a nearby state park called Goose Island state park and parked near "The Big Tree" that is supposedly 2000 years old, I think. We had a picnic and enjoyed the weather. He is feeling good and has an appointment with the cardiologist on Thursday and will have his labs drawn to check his kidney function to see when we can go forward with the heart cath and stents.

We were discussing the fact that he didnt go hunting in November as he almost always does. He hunts at a state wildlife refuge that allows a certain number of hunters in to thin the population of deer (there are so many!). Well, he decided not to go this year, which I really believe would have killed him. Its quite a hike through brush and very rugged hunting. I imagine he would have had a heart attack out there and it would have been really bad. Thank God he didnt go.

Thanks for your prayers and kind words. We are doing ok, day by day.

Possum, was so glad to hear that they found no cancer in those lymphs!

Better go..

on the table today. Please put those on the 'far' back burner.
So glad that Bruce is doing better. As you well know, HE is your
focus right now! I know that you will help nurse him back to health!
And yes, I do want to mention a natural kidney supplement that
I took after my heart valve surgery 5 years ago, and I still
take one about once a week. It is called "KidneyPro" and are
capsules. I get them from Amazon. You can look it up. It has
several herbs that help with kidney function! It really improved
my kidney function, and even my nephrologist (back then) was surprised
how well I was doing. Just sayin'. :)
I hope GF is doing ok with the snow.
A big HEY to Charlotte, KY girl, New Neighbor, MBM, and all!
Prayers,

December 03, 2025 - Msg 121095: Continued prayers for Bruce and for us all. Thank you,Boo- my sister's surgeon phoned her to let her know that the cancer did not spread,so praise God!

Well, I probably won't be able to send Christmas cards this year. My family and I are having the worst string of bad luck that I can remember. It sounds like something out of a tacky reality show but it is very real. I have been in some tough spots but never like this. Wasn't raised to scrape and do things like go to pawn shops, sell items, worry about lights being cut off or family being evicted but folks, the wolf is at the door. I am SO weary of it all. Bone weary. This isn't living,it's surviving.

Please know I am only venting here, not asking for a thing except prayers. I need to get this out,to let my porch family know. I might step back from here, from social media,I just feel like shutting down and giving up.I know I can't,though.

Here's the story- several months ago my daughter & Laci moved about 2 hours from me. They were living in my old place until conditions got too bad and repairs too costly. They hoped for better opportunities in their new home, but nothing, not one thing ,has gone right.

My daughter had her vehicle repossessed,we got it back with the help of a dear friend, now I owe the friend $3000 for the loan. Then the vehicle had issues, took it to a repair shop, the estimate was over $2500. Who has that? Reluctantly, I asked a cousin for help. He called the shop, talked them down to essential repairs and got the price down to under $1000 & he planned to go up and do the rest of the repairs himself.

So,my daughter picks up the vehicle, heads the 4 miles home, and barely gets in the parking lot when the van catches on fire! Thank God she got out safely. She has been sick from breathing the fumes, though.

Fire investigation says "auto fraud" with strong indication of engine tampering and negligence. I think the ship took revenge when my cousin talked the repair cost down to $900 something dollars.

She contacted a lawyer & should get a settlement from this ,we hope so,but not sure how long it will take. And I owe my cousin close to $1000 for a burned up van!

Meanwhile, they are stuck in an apartment 2 hours from me without a vehicle, poor Laci can't go anywhere, money is being spent on online food orders, supplies, Uber, and they are short on their rent. Has to be paid by the 5th or they'll be evicted

Today, I am going into town and will try to sell my old wedding rings. You do what you gotta do. This is absolutely breaking me,not the rings, but the worry that my Laci might be homeless. They can't return to live in my place even if they had a way down here.

Y'all life is a nightmare right now! I shouldn't have all these worries,my daughter is a grown woman but my grandmother's heart,y'all. I would do anything for my Laci.

There's one more part- my daughter has a very important doctor's appt. today down this way. She needs to stick with this doctor due to her health issues. Something has been going on with bilirubin in her urine & there will be a liver specialist at today's appt. Please pray. Please. I need her to be well enough to care for Laci. Laci needs her mama.

We had to rent a car so she could get down here. She also has belongings she needs to get out of my place,so hoping she can do that today as well. Then my plans are to sell my property, use a tiny bit to help Mr. Possum and myself and put the rest aside for my future if anything happens to him.

Haven't seen my girls since late August so looking forward to seeing them briefly when they come through this way. Hopefully, they will have a safe trip down and back. I swear I don't think I can take one more phone call with bad news!!

I do not enjoy life. Tired of struggling and I can't believe this is my life. I am grateful for the many blessings, don't think I don't realize them. It's just so hard waking up every day in survival mode.

And then there's Mr. Possum. Y'all know what happened there. If you would continue to pray for him,for me,as I keep pushing through each day as his caregiver.

I am sorry if this is a lot. I know it is. But this porch has always been a safe place for me,a place full of love and caring, and I just needed to let this all out. I carry so much inside.

I know life is tough for everyone these days and I pray for every single Porchster. Please pray for me.
Peace and Love, possum

December 06, 2025 - Msg 121107: Very sorry to hear that, John Masters.

Thank you all for the prayers. IT is a process with Bruce. We wanted to get the stents placed yesterday but kidney function was still not good enough so were sent to a very busy ER in the city and IV fluids and labs done, then at 9pm transferred to a room. The copay for a few hours waiting in the ER was 350 dollars with insur@nce and medicare! Good grief. Anyway, he is getting lots of IV fluid to flush the kidneys and drinking lots of water. Kidney doc was there yesterday and cardiologist this morning. His kidney numbers are improving a lot so we have out fingers crossed that he will be able to get the stents on Monday. Will let you all know.

I am about to go back up to the hospital...maybe I will take my christmas cards to write. I have usually gotten to them by now.

Sean and I got out and put some colored lights on the house and pulled out the old blow molds of frosty and santa. Bruce would think it was kind of trashy but we like it. Too bad Bruce. lol

December 08, 2025 - Msg 121111: Thank you so much,ky girl. I sure am sorry about your car and hope things work out to where you will soon have another vehicle. It's so hard when you don't have a reliable vehicle or one at all!

December 11, 2004 - Msg 25694: Sugarplum's in jail... Sugarplum's in jail...
(trying to sound like Otis singing it to Barney)

Them little furkids can be pesty at times. Barney commenced to barking his fool head off tonight when we brought in the tree. Now everytime he walks through the livingroom he looks at it, gives a couple of small warning woofs and then makes a wide berth around it. It has him scared. But it's his first Christmas so I reckon he'll get used to it.
I hope Sugarplum gets out soon and is repentant Ro.

There once was a goat they called Jimmy,
Who went "up-town," what a ninny,
He ate dy-no-mite,
which aint very bright,
But ol' Barn made him leave with a 'whinny!' (on his french harp)

December 12, 2025 - Msg 121123: Happy Friday evening, Porchsters! I thought of you all today as I wrote out Christmas cards. I had a crazy busy summer and an even busier fall, but I can barely begin to tell you what kept me so busy. The usual I guess—swimming, gardening, yard work, trips to the woods with my husband, etc. I’m not a resolution maker or keeper, but if I was, I would add to my list to relax and enjoy a band concert at the gazebo even if there are spiders and stop by the porch more often. I’ve missed you all. I appreciate the Asa story about Sugar Plum. I read some of Ro’s stories today. She was quite a writer with a great sense of humor as well as a wise woman. Good people visit this porch. Merry Christmas to all. Hopefully I’ll stop by again before the new year.

Thanks, GF, they usually take me about 4 're-writes' to get one
done, as some words are hard to rhyme with!
HI to Charlotte. Thanks for stopping by.
Yes, please try to post more often, tell us of your hikes,
adventures etc. :)
Here is a general question for y'all. As i was watching TAGS
tonight on Me-TV, it was the Dogs, dogs, dogs episode, and I
got to wondering... was this the only episode that featured
the fact that Barney had a lunch box? Usually Aunt Bee
would bring lunch, or they would go to the diner.
Just curious. :)

December 13, 2025 - Msg 121126: Hey MDC,
Not sure about the lunchbox. All I remember is that he didn’t want to share his Mister Cookie Bar and that he gets an afternoon sinking spell. 🤣 Very happy to be back here. Extremely snowy on my porch today!!! I’ve been getting a kick out of Possum and Boo’s vintage Christmas pics on FB. Too funny! I do remember when my family’s trees looked like those. Simpler times.

December 14, 2025 - Msg 121128: Thanks for that video Christmas greeting, MDC :)

I will be mailing my christmas cards on Monday.

Been busy, busy. Bruce has been behaving and doing ok. He has his follow up with the cardiologist on Chrismas Eve afternoon, if you can believe it. That poor doctor never gets a break, it seems.

Hope you all are well and staying warm. By the time the cold front got all the way down here it was fairly weak but I will take it over the warm humid weather we had prior.

Take care,
Boo

December 15, 2025 - Msg 121129: Appreciated Billy Ray’s “what’s goin’ on?” I wonder that every day!! Lol Love that Carpenter Christmas song, MDC! I need to get out my Carpenter Christmas CD. The time is going fast. Only 10 days until Christmas! Brrrrr! Cold again on this here porch today and still loads of snow, but there’s hopefully a warmup on the way! Prayers for possum and daughter and Boo and Bruce.

Haven't heard John Berry in forever- that is one beautiful rendition. Thanks,Billy Ray.
And " What's Up" should be my theme song- lol
Y'all take care and keep warm. It has been brutally cold here- DANG cold,as Rev would say! I sure despise it. Give me 100 degree temps ANY day!
