September 07, 2025 - Msg 120901: I'm still here, too, although not as much as I used to be and that's mostly due to how my life flipped upside down back in January when Mr. Possum had his stroke and now having to be a caregiver. Some days are rough ( like Friday-geez.. ) but others aren't that bad. I just don't want to bring my troubles to the Porch so I tend to stay away. I'll try to come rock more often because I know that y'all care & it doesn't really matter whether I come here and tell y'all things are good or that things are bad because my Porch family is going to love me know matter what. Boo,I think about Asa & Ro a lot too and it's hard not to have them here with us anymore. But their spirit is still here and thanks to Floyd and the archives,we can go back and reread posts by our dear friends, I have been sitting on an idea for a while, just something I think might help " bring" them back to the Porch and I'll tell y'all about it once I post this. Boo,your idea about the Facebook page is good, I'd join a group dedicated to our Porch but who will oversee it? Running a group on FB is a lot of work. I sometimes fill in and help one of my friends with her group and she really has to stay on top of it on a daily basis. I'd do it,only that I am so busy with Mr. Possum. Good idea, though. Ok, let me work on my idea and once y'all see what it is, perhaps y'all will want to continue with it.
Oh, almost forgot! Today is Laci's 22nd birthday! Our lil Porch baby grew up!

We all miss our friends, Ro,and Asa,so I thought it might be nice to revisit some of their posts from past years. I went back into the archives and randomly picked a year, then found one of Asa's posts. I don't remember what he was discussing with Pappa Bear, but the last comment of his post was amusing!
If y'all like this idea, please do the same and go back and find a previous post from Ro or Asa (don't forget Rev!) and share with us under the heading " Porch Memories".

March 11, 2020 - Msg 113896: Good morning all.

Pappabear, concerning your question of why two and three holes, maybe it was a prestige thing, like Floyd wanting a two chair barbershop. I wonder if they had the magazines to swing it though. :)

MDC, Pretty crazy all the stories I am hearing about the crisis hoarding going on. I hope that the stories I read are the exceptions and not the norm.

Well I might just have to buy a set of those granite pans. They come both Frankie and MDC approved.

Well I ended up again in the dentists chair yesterday having an emergency root canal done. My tooth felt really good following my visit from the day before, but yesterday morning when I awoke, I noticed the tooth in front of the one I thought was hurting, was very sensitive to pressure. I figured I'd give it some time to see if the antibiotics would kick in, but by noon time it was getting worse. So I called my dentist and he had me in two hours later and did his thing. This morning it is feeling a lot better. Odd that it never showed up on the x-ray.

Well off to do my weekly grocery shopping. I sure hope they left me some T.P. A feller should be entitled to some luxury in his older years, right?

September 08, 2025 - Msg 120906: Hey to Possum. Listen girlie, you can come here and unload anytime. I certainly have dumped on all of you plenty and no one has knocked me off the porch yet. Look at it this way; Imagine you are at my house and we decided to sit on the front porch on the swing and drink a good cup of coffee...or squeezins, or whatever. lol. I might share some things that were on my mind and I might even need a shoulder to cry on, and you might do the same. It would be expected. It should be the same here on our cyberporch. You come and sit and visit, and share what is on your heart.

Thanks for sharing the Asa memory, MDC. I like that idea and I will definitely do the same. Maybe it will be healing for us because he was so funny! I thinking laughing would be a good thing.

I cant believe Laci is 22. Wow. Seems like she was born last week, and can you believe Erin (Baby Girl as we used to call her) is 24?! Mercy the time is flying.

It is still really hot here in s texas but I got up early and left the house around 8 and there was definitely a change in the air. Not cold, of course, but not as hot and humid as usual. I am really looking forward to cooler weather, as always. For one thing, my dog King has been getting kinda thick from doing nothing but lying on the couch most days. He does not like the heat. When it cools off I am going to run his behind off chasing tennis balls.

Went to Hobby Lobby this morning and they had a ton of fall stuff everywhere!! I found some dessert plates and napkins for Thanksgiving that were on sale and really pretty. I try to use real plates for the food so there are no food-dropping accidents. Remember the old chinet paper plate commercials when they would show someone using a cheap paper plate and losing their food in an instant? lol

Well, hope all of you have a good rest of the week. I am working on the island tomorrow so will be crossing on the ferry, which is usually enjoyable. Sometimes I actually see a dolphin or two.

Adios!

I am going to look up some of RO's posts. That one was funny from 2020
when TP became an issue. I wonder if some people are just NOW
finishing their hoarded rolls. HA! With Sears no longer around
to make catalogs (which were often used for TP), I guess a lot
of folks turned into hoarders.

I'm sorry I don't get to write as much on the front porch as I would like to right now. Work keeps me busy busy busy. Looking forward to Mayberry Days. If any of you are coming, I do plan to try out at the Mayberry Idle. Come and cheer me on that day. I would appreciate it. It has been a sad week with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I know he is enjoying his new home in heaven with Christ. As ambassadors for Mayberry, I feel it is our duty to seek to return America to Mayberry again. We do that by praying for our fellowman, reading and obeying the Bible, and sharing the love of Christ just like Mayberry folks did. Our goal should be that the worst crime committed in our country is jaywalking just like Mayberry. That's kind of what my letter is all about. Good to visit with yall. Julie

So as I say, sometimes we are the author sometimes we are just the conduit, and sometimes just the messenger....Thank You for being all of those!...

Maybe it was because I grew a beard 🧔🏻 those times? ...G-F.....🤣🤣🤷🏼‍♂️

September 15, 2025 - Msg 120924: Sorry MDC, I now see that it was Possum that posted the Asa memory, and speaking of TP; do you know what I have noticed recently? TP rolls are smaller (more narrow) and loaves of bread have shrunk (or is it shrunken?) in the past few weeks. Next time you buy a loaf take a good look at it and you will see what I mean. Price goes up and the sizes go down. Its just the economy we are living in I guess. Now the hoarders are going to have to buy even more rolls of TP (if they can afford it, that is).

Thanks for sharing, G-F. I am more than happy to welcome another Julie to the porch. :)

With all the social unrest and craziness of social media, I am taking a sabbatical from facebook so will hopefully be frequenting the porch more often. I will not give any political commentary and will just say how thankful I am for this porch and want it to remain a safe zone in this crazy world, where people with different opinions still remain friends and love one another. Oh, and let's hear it for Jaywalking! I committed that particular crime just today. Lucky Gomer wasn't there to scream "Citizen's arrest!

Folks, I do believe this has been about the hottest day so far this year here in south texas. Whew! i spent a considerable amount of time trying to shew a trapped hummingbird out of my garage. Nothing seemed to work and I finally had to give up and come in. By that time I was drenched in sweat and defeated. Sat under the fan for 15 minutes, went into the garage and guess what? He seems to have finally flown out. They sometimes get in there because I believe they are attracted to Bruces bright red tractor that is in the garage being worked on right now. Once those sweet little critters fly in there, they seem to have trouble flying beneath the open garage door to get out. This little guy had been in there since last evening. I felt so sorry for him. He was cute and had a little stray feather kind of sticking up on the top of his tiny head. I think I'm in love.

Well, better go think about heating up something for dinner. I have some vegetable soup that i got out of the freezer to heat up. I have really been cheating on my diet lately and have GOT to get it together. It will be a healthy dinner for me tonight.

Take care, friends
Boo

September 16, 2025 - Msg 120925:

Hi BOO, Yes, I have noticed the TP shrinkage. The rolls are
now about a half inch shorter than they were. However, I bought
some Charmin the other day that have the new "wavy" perforations,
and those rolls are the 'old' size. Hmmm. But in the bigger picture,
so are so lucky compared to even a 100 years ago! (ie: Sears catalogs.) :)

As for the bread, I get one called Rustik Hearty Grains, and it is stillthe same size. At least for now anyway. ha

And yes, this is still a nice 'respite' from the crazy world.
I had a similar 'bird experience' with a pigeon in my garage recently,
and like you, once I just left the garage door open, and I went
inside, it found its own way out.
Hang in there my friends!

I never heard of rustik Hearty grains. I dont think they sell that here.

I am at the age in which I dont remember who I tell what to or if I have told you all things or not. Anyone relate? Anyway, please say a prayer for Sean. He still continues to have episodes of anxiety that are awful. He saw a new prescriber who is working with him on his meds but his current job has been pretty awful. He works in a tool room for an area that supports airplanes and they are in the middle of getting rid of old ones and bringing in new ones that require different tools. They are doing inventory and packing of old tools (and by tools I mean every little nut and bolt, as well) and that sort of thing makes him crazy with his dyslexia. I dont remember if I told you all that his current job ends in December and it looked like he would be out of job at that point but he has been hired on in the same building to do janitorial and ground maintenance for almost what he is making now but he doenst start until december. Anyway, he really needs to hang in there because he is getting weight loss surgery soon and his new employer said they would hold the new job for him until he gets it done with his current insur@nce.

Well, not much else to report. St. Susan is doing well since her heart procedure. No further chest pain at this time. Erin is working alot.
Bruce finally finished work on his tractor. We have had it since 2009 and it needed major work, which would cost a fortune. A new one was out of the question at the cost this close to retirement, so he taught himself how to completely tear it down and rebuild it, body and engine. He even gave it a new red paint job. Well, putting the engine back together and rewiring everything has been really tough but last night it finally started up and he was beside himself! Finally. I am happy to be getting the garage back so I can put my car in it!

Y'all take care,
Boo

My story is a dog story. When I was around 5 or 6 a beautiful border collie ended up on our door step and I talked my folks into letting me keep him. I named him Prince and he was just the best dog a little feller could want. Would greet me at the school bus stop every afternoon and carry on like he hadn't seen me in a year. One day Prince had an indiscretion with a neighbors German Shepard and soon Prince was carrying a litter of puppies. Yep, Prince had become a Princess. Well she gave birth a to fine litter of pups. We gave all but one away, a male, (this time my Dad checked) that we named Alfy. What a great dog he was also. Funny, but I kept calling my dog Prince although she wasn't one anymore. Just couldn't manage to ever stick the ess on the end of it. :)

HI Mayberry Folks! I hope everyone had a good weekend.
BOO- As you know me from way back, and know of my oregano
and other 'natural' items, I am going to send you a page
via email that may help Sean. A list of foods to avoid, etc.
My GP, a D.O., gave it to me years ago. It might help him with his weight.
Sounds like everything else is going pretty good.

I had a cardiologist 6 mo. check up this past Thursday, and he wanted to start
me on Farxiga, but I looked up the side effects when I got home, and thought,
"no way!" The list of pretty bad and 'common' side effects, including
thoughts of suicide, was quite extensive. All because my EF was down a bit,
but that was from an echo 6 months ago. I really think that big pharma
is pushing those drugs, and have some docs in their hip pocket. :(

GF knows first hand about my back issues, saw my cushion in my rental vehicle, etc.
I see my chiro every Tuesday, and her adjustments sure do help "my achin back!" :)

Hey to POSSUM, good to see ya. It would be "whomever" as it is the object in that phrase.

Thanks for the ASA post. I miss those stories about our various pets thru the years.
We had 3 cats, one at a time, and our last one, Crystal, had an amazing personality!

One thing about this porch, like Opie's Trey, we have genuine, full size,
regulation friends here! :)

I had to chuckle because when i went to church today I noticed a new basket near the back of the sanctuary with pillows in it. I looked around at those in attendance and it made perfect sense. Nearly everyone was over 50. lol. The pews are padded on the bottom but not on the backs.
This little old church looks almost just like the All Saints church in Mayberry. Old fashioned in the best way. We even sang out of the old hymnals today.

It is still very hot here in south texas but it has to break eventually. We have summer six months out of the year here which is a drag.

I have been watching more TAGS this past week, which has been nice. I kind of got away from it for awhile and now I am enjoying it more.

I have a prayer request for those who pray, please. Sean accepted another job, as I think I told you, doing janitorial work in the same facility he works in now but it doesnt provide health insur@nce. Well, he found out about a job on the base working for the navy in a tool room that pays 32 an hour and provides health insur@nce and he put in for it. A recruiter called him the next morning and said he should be hearing from someone within the week. We are really hoping they choose him. Thanks.

I am sitting here with my stomach rumbling because I havent eaten all day so I think I will go throw together some leftovers like Romeena used to do. Remember that? She could make a meal from just about anything and make it sound good, too!

Later gators,

October 05, 2025 - Msg 120953: Thanks Possum, hope your baked spaghetti turned out well. I saw a nifty cooking video today in which someone breaded and browned some thin chicken breasts, lined a baking pan with them, covered with alfredo and spaghetti sauce, topped with cheese and baked. I thought that was a pretty good way of making parmesan chicken and I will be trying it.

We had leftovers again tonight. I had made chicken fajitas in the crockpot and we have been eating that on tortillas with spanish rice and refried beans. I am getting kind of tired of it and opened a can of soup this evening and ate that with crackers. Not so good but it filled me up.

I babysat baby Jonah this evening and he gave me some big smiles! he is so sweet. I just hate that his little foot is twisted and he has to wear that cast all the way up his little leg. Tomorrow they will see the ortho again to have that one off and put on another one. I guess they just adjust the foot a little each week. It has to get sore, poor sweetie.

Well, been a long day so I am going to put my feet up and watch some tv or read a book. I am trying to get back into reading again.

Later friends,
Boo

I really like Sea Cuisine brand frozen salmon.
Mmm boy is it good. I actually have been cooking
4 to 5 nights a week, and only a couple of
restaurant/fast foods meals.
Thanks for all your continued prayers.
I know the holidays will be a bit tough, but I have
great family and neighbor support.
I am doing very well these days, and will be going to
Santa Barbara soon to visit friends there.
And, YEA, our weather is down to the low 90s!!

There once was a 'crim' named Ralph Neal,
Who broke out of jail...quite a deal!
But an old dog named Blue,
Gave Neal his 'due,'
So now Ralph is on the "heal!"

October 07, 2025 - Msg 120958: There once was a lady named “Crump”...
Who to Andy acted like a Grump...
Andy once got a burn, and Helen got one in return...
Now they talk about “Trust”, In Mayberry this has to be a must!
Now It’s off to Meyers Lake for a date, and Andy must not be late....

There once was a machine...Asa really tried to keep her clean.
The snow she did blow, when the gas would want to flow...
Helen was her name, blowing snow was her game...
For Asa she was finicky, so much like her namesake...
sometimes she wouldn’t blow 🌬 a flake ❄️....

October 07, 2025 - Msg 120959: Porch Family, I have an urgent prayer request. My sister has been diagnosed with breast c@ncer. Invasive c@rcinoma and from looking at the pathology report,it is beyond the early stage. Possible Stage 2 or 3. We'll find out once she sees an oncologist.

Of all people,my sweet sister. I'm so heartbroken but trusting in God to heal her. She's been through so much these last two years-her marriage of nearly 40 years ended (husband found another woman) and she's still grieving that. God bless her.

I'm sincerely asking for prayers,y'all. Please flood the heavens with them! Her name is Cathy. God knows her.

Thanks y'all and I will keep you informed on her progress.

October 07, 2025 - Msg 120960: Hello Porchsters. I am back to 100% after my Covid. I declare, I need a good county nurse to look after me.

I'll share a little something I read in the Bible this week. It's a fairly adult theme, but I reckon you all can take it:

Ezekiel 16:33-34 Men make payment to all harlots, but you made your payments to all your lovers, and hired them to come to you from all around for your harlotry. You are the opposite of other women in your harlotry, because no one solicited you to be a harlot. In that you gave payment but no payment was given you, therefore you are the opposite.

My, wouldn't that have gotten the Mayberry church's attention if it had been the Sermon of the Day? God tells his rebellious people they are worse than prostitutes since prostitutes at least get paid! Many people have the mistaken notion the Bible is all candy canes and gumdrops and it assuredly is not. That concludes my sermon for the day.

October 07, 2025 - Msg 120961: I dont remember that verse, Billy Ray. I can only imagine the faces of the ladies in Mayberry if they heard that one on a sunday morning...I can just hear Opie trying to ask his dad questions after that.

Possum, I am very sorry to hear about your sister. I can imagine it is very hard for you, as it would be for me if it were my sister. You and Cathy have my prayers. One thing I can tell you is that cancer treatment has improved so much so I am hoping for the best for her, though it will be a process that wont be easy. May God bless her with future health, strength, and grace, and may his peace abide in your hearts through every circumstance. Love you, Pam.

October 15, 2025 - Msg 120972: MDC, glad you werent personally effected by the Microburst. I have never even heard of such a thing. Strange.

Saying a prayer for you, Possum. Things are trying these days and worry can sweep you away some days. We are dealing with some tough issues with the kids but at least we can still function and work. Some people have such terrible trials.

Went to the children's hospital today with baby Jonah to have his leg re cast and his little foot is straightening right out.

I do wonder about how so many people who used to visit the porch. When I go back over the archives, there are so many missing and I sometimes wonder where they are or if they are even still with us. I wish we could get the word out and have some kind of porch reunion.

Better go, got things to do. Oh, speaking of things to do, I applied for another job working at the children's hospital in corpus. Its an office job so would be physically easy for me but it may be a longshot and Im not even sure I qualify for it at this point. It would pay better and help get Bruce ready to retire. Prayer appreciated because I give everything to God and always want him to choose when it comes to jobs, Thanks. :)

Hi all. My trip to Cal is going very good.
Had some time at the ocean today. It is so relaxing

I am visiting a few friends who live here in the
Santa Barbara area. Will head for home on Monday.
Prayers for Jonah, Possum, and for all the porch, and for boo
to get that job. In these times we give it all to the Lord.
More when I get back.
