May 06, 2025 - Msg 120650: MDC...The Weather in Mt. Airy in July is pretty warm, typically 80’s to 90’s but unlike Arizona, it’s definitely not a dry heat. It gets pretty muggy. But in the evening when we get together at the Motor Inn it is usually pretty comfortable.

I’ll bring you a folding chair, because seating is limited to the Gazebo. I have an extra one of those umbrella chairs that fold up pretty small....

One of the advantages to staying there IF it rains ☔️ there’s a overhang on the hotel, you can set up your chair in front of your room to get out of the rain.

Floyd puts wireless speakers around so everyone can still watch & hear the episodes, kinda like a drive-In movie.
He also has it set up so you can tune into a radio station and hear it sitting in your car 🚗 too!

Sheriff Andy Taylor: Well, would it kill the whim if I just take a shower and put on some clean socks and underwear?
Deputy Barney Fife: Sure it will! It's not a whim anymore if you put on clean underwear!…😂😂😂😂

May 06, 2025 - Msg 120652: Was a good weekend. Hope everyone had a good cinco! I had some good mexican food at our fave tex mex place. Best enchiladas I think I ever ate. I am not kidding when I tell you that we have about 20 tex mex restaurants in our rather small town. No steakhouse, no chinese buffet, one small cafe and all the rest is Mexican food. You guys would love it. lol Breakfast tacos are a staple around here and you see cars lined up into the street early every morning to get them.

Not much exciting to say. Bruce is home down in his back after bending over to pick weeks on Sunday. He is using a walker and begging his doctor for medicine so he can get back to work.
I worked the weekend and spent alot of time on the computer.

Hope all of you have a great week!

So funny about your 20 Mexican restaurants. We have a lot also, but

In July we get together for the Mayberry Meet-Up in Mt. Airy. This is a more relaxing and less busy time we all get together and visit and come back together in the evening for fun, games and watch episodes like a drive- movie. It’s a really fun time too!. Erin is doing so much better. She finally made the break from the toxic alcoholic girlfriend and is showing more maturity. She was offered the position of manager of the subway where she has been working because she has strong work ethic and leadership skills. She is going to accept and I think it will be good experience for her. She is coming along. Thank you for the many prayers.

Now, I have a prayer request for Sean, please. I have mentioned that his job is on the line. He works in the tool room on the navy base for a contract company. They are making big changes and have let many people go. They can only keep two people in his area and there are three. He is the newest employee. I am praying that one of the others finds employment elsewhere so he can stay but it looks like next layoffs will be in October or sooner. I pray he stays so he can continue with health insur@nce and with his disabilities and the Tourettes its hard to find a good fit for him that will pay enough and provide insur@nce. I put it in God's hands but would appreciate your prayers. These are hard times for so many young people trying to make it in this economy.

MDC, I am working on a quilt right now for a friend who requested it months ago but will start on your placemats after I am finished with it. I have been working more so projects take longer but I havent forgotten. :)

Well, it's Saturday, which means I have to catch up on the chores before work on Monday. I just washed one dog and will do the other outside later. My dog, King, is a german shepherd mix of some kind and that dog sheds like I didnt even know was possible. I vacuum at least twice every day and there is still hair on the floors. I brush him out and get piles of hair daily. Its insane. The dogs are a lot of work but they are worth it in all the love and laughter they give us. Even as I sit here at the computer, King comes in and lays near me just to be by my side. So sweet.

June 02, 2025 - Msg 120699: Happy Monday porch family, checking in from work this morning.

We have had some cool rainy weather on my end of the porch this past week. The sun is shining today and supposed to warm up to the low 80's.

Been busy with the usual on my end of the porch. still working 3 days a week... Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. Some days are longer days working til 6 but that's ok.

Our little grandson Tripp is doing good. growing like a weed. He is 18 months old now, loves outside and is very active. They live relatively close to us so we get the see him at least once a week and sometimes more. He is a joy and definitely a good time.

Looking forward to the Mayberry meet in July and to meeting MDC.

Guess I'd better get busy here at work.
Have a great day
Prayers and blessings to all

Hope everyone is doing A OK. Been busy with the usual things on my end of the porch.

June 02, 2025 - Msg 120700: Hey Maude, glad you are doing ok. I only work three or four days a week but sometimes they are long days. One of these days we can all retire! I'll bet Tripp is adorable.

You all remember my adopted grandson Charlie? he is three now and just diagnosed with something called autoimmune encephalitis. Im not very familiar with it and need to do some research but I am concerned for the little guy. He is still barely speaking and has some strange behaviors like screaming or crying at strange times and sometimes not able to control it. They did tests to rule out a brain tumor and found this diagnosis. I know his parents are probably really frightened. Praying for the best outcome for Charlie.

Had a full work day today so lots of computer input to do this evening. Blessing to all my porch family.

Was it Goober, Mrs. Sprague or was it Uncle Edward?...🤔

....G-F

June 04, 2025 - Msg 120702: Well, G-F I thought the spaghetti sauce made by Uncle Edward looked like it didnt have any meat in it so it probably wasnt very good but I dont remember the others. Around here we always put meat in our spaghetti sauce. I use ground turkey, myself, and let my sauce simmer for a long time. I make a mix of jar sauce (prego), my own sauce with tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basilm garlic, salt and pepper, chopped and sauted red peppers and onions, and 2T of brown sugar to cut the acidity of the tomato sauce. It always turns out well and I use this same sauce to make my lasagna and it is always a big hit.

Hope you all are well. Been off today so doing a few chores and deciding on what to make for dinner. Seems some of us have been having some stomach upset the past couple of days so will have to decide on something easy to digest. Im telling you, if i every won the lottery the first thing I would do is hire a chef. Im so tired of cooking.

Bruce went to see the kidney doctor yesterday and it wasnt good news. He now has stage 3 kidney disease caused by hypertension. He saw a new kidney doctor that I liked very much. He took time to do a good history and review his meds and labs and changed up his PB meds, which is just what I wanted done. His kidneys are functioning at 60% so he has to get really serious about preventing further damage.

Well, best go finish up some things. Hang in there and stay cool friends!

BOO-Your spag sauce sure sounds good! Concerning Bruce, when my heart was so bad

mister. Your grand kiddo sure sounds like a joy!

All else going ok here. Our 'summer weather' is indeed here with

Billy Ray, hope you are doing better.

June 05, 2025 - Msg 120705: Thanks MDC, will check it out. Bruce recently had a good cardiac evaluation so Im fairly certain the problem lies with the blood pressure. My concern is that his heart may suffer from the CKD because that could effect his heart in a negative way. The doc spoke as though his condition wouldnt improve but I do know from experience that kidney function can improve but when it's acute, the chances are better. When it develops slowly from high blood pressure I think it is more unlikely to improve but can be stopped and not progress. Hoping for the best, anyway. Glad you are doing VBS with the kiddos! fun

Well, have a list of patients to see so I had better get rolling.

June 05, 2025 - Msg 120706: Boo - My father was at stage 3 kidney disease, bordering stage 4. Like right on the line. His doctor's prescription was water. Lots and lots of water. At least four bottles a day. Coffee and pop were forbidden.

June 05, 2025 - Msg 120707: Thanks, JM. I will pass that along. I got Bruce to stop drinking pop about 2 months ago, thankfully.

June 06, 2025 - Msg 120708: FYI - I did an upgrade to the servers hosting this, and all the Mayberry sites I run, so I'm just making sure the Porch still works correctly.

June 06, 2025 - Msg 120709: Hey Y'all- Just checking in before somebody starts calling around and "trouble checking" on me. I've read the goings on here and am sending prayers and love to all.
Well, I'm not going to say there isn't any trouble in this new way of living I'm doing. So much has changed. Mr. Possum is coming along well with his speech, even used the word "articulate" correctly yesterday during a conversation. However, later in the day I went to check on him-he likes to sit on the porch and I'm either out there with him or nearby, and found him rubbing acrylic paint on his arms. Mosquitoes had bitten him and he grabbed a bottle of paint, thinking it would stop the itch. Y'all, I wanted to cry. The poor man. I explained what he was rubbing on himself and let him know we don't put that on our bodies then got him inside and cleaned him up. Today, another situation- we have a door that sticks and when that happens, all it needs is to take a hammer and either tap the hinge bolt thingy down slightly-which I did while he was having his breakfast. No more sticking door. Ok, so I go upstairs to get myself ready for the day and I hear bamming and hammering. For some reason, he had to go "fix" the door and all he did was get it to where it sticks again! Y'all. It's so hard. I told him he shouldn't have messed with it,that I had fixed it and it was fine. He responded that he was a mechanic and knows how to fix things. Yes, the man is a trained mechanic but I question whether he can fix things or not. I wish he could. I've had to learn to take care of the car, do some plumbing and even assembled a push lawn mower all by myself. He really can't do much anymore. It's sad. I can only imagine how he feels and I try to be compassionate and understanding but it is so frustrating. I wanted to cry when I found him rubbing the paint on his arms. The stroke brought on some cognitive dementia and I pray it doesn't get worse but I'm not counting on it. I see a look in his eyes at times that says otherwise. Please keep praying for us. It's just me and Mr. Possum. Nobody comes to visit or help. Well,my daughter and Laci have visited several times but he has so called family right down the road that were all over him in the hospital but have since ghosted him. His "granddaughter" actually would pass by the house taking her child to school and back and had the nerve to blow the horn and smile and wave, even yelled once that she was coming to see him the next day. Never happened. From then on,I made it a point not to be out on the porch during the time of say she'd drive past. He doesn't ask about them or mention them much at all. It's apparent they must have a problem with me,but all I'm doing is taking care of this sweet fellow as best I can. We had a speech therapist and social worker coming ,,but have been discharged from those services. He's done so well with speech and I continue to work with him daily. The social worker was a big let down. She really didn't do anything to help us! Can't believe she had me fill out applications to get paid as a caregiver and to get respite care and just left us hanging. She did say there is no funding right now but possibly after July. I have been with Mr Possum 24/7 since the end of January. No break at all, can't leave him alone and go to the store or anywhere. He has a sore foot (that's a whole other matter) but he's going to have to go along with me to the store today because I need to grocery shop. It's too hot to let him sit in the car while I run in really fast. So we will drag through the aisles today. I already have a headache. Don't think I'm not grateful for the many blessing we do have. I realize things could be so much worse. I'm so blessed to have my caring Porch family. I know without a doubt that y'all love me and are praying for me. That keeps me going. I'm sorry to come here and vent but just needed to. Love and Peace to all- possum u.a.r.

June 06, 2025 - Msg 120710: Oh, I did "unstick" the door again. Hopefully he will leave it alone.

possum again

June 06, 2025 - Msg 120711: I saw that Goober Fife had posted the link to information about the July 18-19 Mayberry Meetup. We'd love have anyone join us that is about. Here is a "short link" to the Meetup information/schedule: https://bit.ly/mayberrymeetup2025

June 06, 2025 - Msg 120712: I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles, Possum. I see the same story play out weekly in my work. Today I was in the local grocery store after work and I still had my scrubs on. A young employee stopped me and asked if I was a home health nurse. Turns out she is working and trying to care for her father who has major health issues after a stroke and can't afford insur@nce and is too young for medic@re. She was asking for advice on a paid caregiver to be with him while she works. The poor girl looked to be maybe 21. Its just not fair and you are right about social workers and there is only so much money to go around I guess. Add to that the uncertainty of things in this country and the fighting within the current administration about this recent bill. It is very discouraging.
I'm glad you can come here to talk to us. Venting really helps. Bruce is still working when he wants to retire (and me as well) because he knows that it is likely that one of us will need help caring for the other before too much longer and he is trying to make sure we have some resources for that. Unfortunately, we are still helping our daughter every time her car breaks down and she cant afford to fix it. Sometimes she even needs gas money. I wish I had some wise advice for you but I just don't know what I could say to help other than we care about you and are here when you need to talk. Praying for God's grace to sustain you. i feel sorry for Mr. Possum. Its a hard thing to be in his position as a man. You have a tough road, too. How good you are to help him with all of his needs. I hope you can find someone to give you a break soon.

Floyd, thank you for upgrading the porch and keeping us rocking here for all these years. We may not say it much, but it has meant so much to us over the many years.

Possum, I will email you soon, I am discerning and praying about
an idea that might give you that needed 'break,' since I
will be 'in your area' in July! I'd have to do a little
're-booking,' but it might be workable. Please keep me in prayer
the next few days as I ponder this tought 😊.
Sincerely, MDC
