Folks on Facebook can be a "Fan" of the podcast using the link below. There's photos of stuff there.

July 25, 2009 - Msg 74162: Good evening, porch. Well, actually, good very early morning. It's 2:23 a.m. What a day this has been! I got up at 7 a.m. yesterday (Thursday), was up all day, slept an hour then went to work last night. Worked twelve hours, got home and slept about fifteen minutes in my chair before Joe arrived to work on the sprinkler system. We also put diatomaceous earth out over the whole yard, flowerbeds, foundation perimeter, etc. After he left at 2, I went to bed to get a little sleep before going to dinner with my son tonight. Then one of my daughters surprised me - she and her husband and baby were parked on the driveway, calling to let me know they were out there! I had no idea they were coming. So we all went to Dakota's for dinner (fabulous place, incredible food). Jerry and Eloise went too, and we had a great time. When we came home David produced a slide projector he had just bought, and we spent the next few hours looking at old family slides! What a lovely time.

To top it off, Brittney (she of the many techno talents) gave me a beautiful album she had made, using pictures gleaned from my old photo albums, yearbooks, wedding album, multiple sources. The pictures are literally printed on the pages, arranged and grouped by Brittney. Beautiful! It's an heirloom, and I will cherish it. Seems David has been sneaking in here when I'm gone to work, or Eloise has dragged me off shopping or something, giving him time to gather the pictures she scanned in. They have been working on it for a couple of months! I am just thrilled with it!

And now, since I've been up for 43 hours with about three hours of sleep during that time, I'm going to bed. I may be scarce for the next couple of days - thanks for the birthday wishes, and happy birthday to Homemaker, too. Bet I'm the oldest! I can't believe it, but I'm 70. Good grief!

Be blessed, my friends. --Romeena

Sorry about your barn, spot. We really didn't mean for it to happen. Is the Fire Department still out there? I'll start a "Repair Spot's Barn" collection drive.I can only give 3 measly cents, though. I'm saving up to buy somebody something. Maybe MDC will chip in.I know he has lots of those nickels with the buffalo head facing the other way.
See y'all over at Cracker Barrel!

Sounds like a wonderful birthday ROMEENA!! 70, huh?...that snuck up on me. I didn't think you were there yet. How neat that your daughter surprised you. How is the baby? I am trying to remember how old he is now...

BTW Ro, I have walls now...they are just 2x4's but its progress. Those guys work fast. Bruce and I already got in a disagreement about our closet. The builder was asking about where we wanted to put the shelves, etc. and we had a disagreement about it...the poor builder just sort of snuck off quietly. HA! I don't know when that husband of mine is gonna realize that "when mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy"..(or however that saying goes). I'm thinking, if we are having issues over the CLOSET, how much worse is it gonna get when we make decisions about the living room? He better keep his nose out of kitchen. How I do my kitchen "is my business, brother!". ;-)..if he starts messing with that he is going to have some scars to show for it!

Here I am tryin to be nice and all since it's Ro's birthday, not tryin to start a big feet moulage, and he stays home. hhrruumpf I mean, yeah, it was nice of him and all to send that potato salad, but.... Now as far as Miss possum goes, it's a good thing Mama Ro didn't catch you throwin them rocks at the lights out behind the barn, she would have taken you out behind the woodshed. Even luckier Miss Sherry didn't catch you, you woulda been in big trouble! Spot since we ain't seen MDC this mornin you better go check your new camper and make sure he didn't pass out in there, he'll be up squallin for breakfast at 1:00 in the afternoon if you don't go make him get up now. July 25, 2009 - Msg 74172: Hey there everybody. I'm stuck at work this evening. We are having a Fabulous 50s Jazz in the Garden event this evening. It would probably be fun if I didn't have to work it. It's a fundraiser for us. I've been running around like a maniac setting up stage lights, icing down beer, setting up chairs, etc. Now I get to hang back a little and take pics. It's humid, so I thought I'd retreat to my office for a few and cool down in the a/c. Anyway, just thought I'd say howdy. I hope you all are having a nice weekend.

The event is winding down, so I suppose it's back to real work--putting everything away. The band was pretty good. They did a lot of 50s swing and stuff, even some rock and roll.

Sorry I missed the birthday bash. There's always next year!

See y'all on Monday. Have a fine sabbath. We are taking the baby to church for the first time tomorrow, so that should cause a lot of commotion with the ladies.

July 26, 2009 - Msg 74181: Well, another late good night, folks. It's after 1 a.m., and I haven't gotten to bed yet. The Fredericksburg family left about 4, and Dave and Brittney stayed until about an hour ago. I've got laundry going, so I can pack for the Branson trip tomorrow afternoon. We leave at 6:30 Monday morning. House is not too cluttered, not too dirty, and I think it's just going to stay as is. Deanna, who will be staying with Starr, won't mind. That's one advantage of getting older, and having friends your own age. They either can't see the dust, or they don't care, and either one will work for me.

Sounds like you all had quite a party too. We do have fun on this porch, and I love it. Sure do miss ASA, though.

Boo, glad the kitty came home. One can get attached to the little critters. Sounds like things are moving right along with the house. As for the closet, have you considered having those metal shelving units, with the tracks for mounting the shelves, so you can move them around as needs arise? You can just reconfigure things to your little heart's content!

Prayers for Lucy, as she's recuperating and for REV out there on the road. May God bless!

Well, I'm off to bed, after I change loads over in the washer and dryer. Nitey nite, termites. --Romeena

July 26, 2009 - Msg 74183: The porch folks I know on facebook are REV, Mavis, KYGirl, Lucy, Me-They, Floyd and you.

Yes, Romeena, I have considered those shelves for the closets. If I go with something like that, it should cost less than having shelves built in by the cabinet maker. We have run into a problem we didn't anticipate in the kitchen area yesterday. We are going to have to reduce the length of the kitchen island, which is great with me because we are going to make it wider, and we may have to remove some counter on the opposite wall because it will be crowded when the table is in and we have to go through the door to the pantry and laundry room. Did I ever send you an email of our finished plans? I think I did but not sure. I may try to send you another so you can see what I am talking about. Anyway, it is the first problem we have had and not such a big deal so we are doing ok. Bruce, of course is fretting over it because it's not perfect, but he will get through it!

Better get ready for preachin'..

July 26, 2009 - Msg 74184:

How I do my kitchen "is my business, brother!". ;-)

Boo, you crack me up, girl. Glad Mr. Kitty came back. I have 4 of the little darlings, and boy am I ready to throw out the litter box(es)! I declare when they're gone I will NEVER get myself into this mess again. I'm chicken-hearted when it comes to animals, but 4 cats and 2 dogs are just tooooo much for any household. Seriously. What was I thinking?

So glad to hear the house is progressing nicely, Boo. Crazy how once the foundation goes down and the framing starts, it all happens so quickly!

Prayers for Lucy, and everyone else needing them.

Speaking of which, could y'all send up one or two for yours truly? I feel like a giraffe asking that, but I got laid off just after my birthday and we're missing those paychecks like you wouldn't believe.

~De§~

July 26, 2009 - Msg 74185: Good afternoon, porch. De§, I'm so sorry to hear about the layoff. Do you think you'll be called back anytime soon? I hope so!

Boo, you did send me the plan, but I don't think I still have it. Would love to have another copy. I enjoy houseplans, I guess because of the history of homebuilding in my family. I used to love to sit and watch my daddy draw a plan.

I'm still getting ready for the trip tomorrow, haven't packed yet, but it won't take long. We're traveling light, as we're staying in a timeshare condo, with laundry facilities, so we don't have to take as much stuff. Besides, it's only for four days. I have several of the "traveler" outfits from Chico's, and you just roll them and stick them in a suitcase. They take up almost no room, and emerge from the suitcase wrinkle-free! Love those things!

Still having power problems in the back yard, all the pond stuff is running off extension cords from the circuit on the back of the house right now. Ted will come tomorrow and fix it all, though. My friend Deanna is coming to stay with Toye Starr, so she will be pampered and well cared for. Thanks to trusted friends, I can leave with a free mind. God is good.

Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

Good to see you, Asa. How's your garden doing? We've got corn just about ready to pick - hopefully when he sprayed it earlier this month the Japanese Beetles hadn't done too much damage to it. Got plenty of green & wax beans coming on too.

Sorry you had to work this weekend, M-T. I'll bet Miss Veda will love hanging out with kids her own age. Reagan doesn't really have any little ones to hang out with other than at church, and the ones her age don't always come. Funny, I've seen maybe a handful of Japanese Beetles this year. Usually by this time I've all but given up hand-picking them off my grapes. Not sure why. Man, those things are a scourge, ain't they?

How big is your garden? Mine's pretty small (about 20'x30'). More than enough work for me, though. We've got loads and loads of tomatoes--I planted seven differet kinds this year. Trouble is, they just won't turn. Big and beautiful, but green as green can be. I just tilled up the lettuce and am going to plant some more. Squash, beets, and beans are all ready.

I also enjoy planting dill. We don't use much at all, but I love the smell. You can smell it all over the back yard.

July 27, 2009 - Msg 74204: I think all your Japanese Beetles showed up here, M-T. I think our garden is about 25 x 50 give or take. We already harvested the few beets we planted - they were so good. Our tomatoes are just starting to come on, too. We've had some cucumbers, radishes, and a little bit of lettuce, and we've got potatoes as well. My hubby's seen a few good sized watermelons and canteloupes still growing out there, but we're not real big squash/zucchini eaters here so we didn't plant any of those.

I love the smell of dill, too.

Well, guess I better check on my girls. They're supposed to be painting in at the kitchen table, but I better check to make sure they're not painting the kitchen or each other. :)

Yep,AFD,that Laci is a trip sometimes! Can't believe she'll be heading to Kindergarten in a few weeks.

Seems everyone is sleeping in this morning, or just not time to post.
Glad to see Asa back! We missed you.
Taking the youngest Neighbette to get her license this morning! (You all be praying-OK?) It's a sad moment for mom...the last one...OK, I'm over it!
Prayers for Lucy.
As many of you know,on Saturday morning, 2 of my daughters and I will be heading out on a Mission trip to Nicaragua. We are taking medical supplies, dentists, Drs.,eye Dr.s, glasses, and the nursing staff with us. I will be working in the clinic. My daughters will be "entertaining" the children who have come to wait to see the Drs. Pray for OUR health, stamina, safe travels to and from . We so want to be a testimony and share the love of Christ through the clinic. (Aug. 1-8) Thanks... ~New Neighbor

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74211: Morning Hazel-Hope I didn't rock on your toes. ~New Neighbor

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74212: Morning Porch.
Hey Sandi, I'm excited and proud of what you and your Daughters are doing. It's so good to see folks putting into practice what is preached. I know you all will be blessed from your efforts I look forward to your return and to hear about the experiences. And your youngest is gonna be driving? Dang girl. You're getting up there. :)

Hey Hazel. How's your garden doing?

AFD, My garden is doing well, although well behind where it usually is. We had a very wet and cool spring this year and it has slowed things down a lot. I'm thinking my first corn planting should be ready this weekend. We don't get that beetle I guess. I have never had to spray my corn for anything. Just work nitrogen in the soil when I plant.

The big 5-0 huh Possum? I SAID THE BIG 5-0-HUH POSSUM? Time just moves right along. I SAID TIME JUST MOVES RIGHT ALONG. (I'm not suggesting your hearing is getting bead) :)

Well better go do something.

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74214: Mornin' Y'all! Thanks,Maude and DUCK outta the way, cause I'm fixin' to throw a leg o' lamb at Asa! WHACK! THUMP! Between Spot reminding me how many days I have left as a YOUT,and Asa hollering at me like I need one of those 6 million dollar man bionic hearing aids- GOOD GRIEF! Ha!

Prayers for Lucy. She was on my mind last night. Boo,please let us know what you hear from her,ok?

Oh,going back to the age thing,I saw something funny yesterday. I was looking thru a catalog at my mom's that had lots of funny t-shirts in it. There was one that said this (I'll have to get it past the censor):
"Inside every older person is a young person wondering what the HE!! happened!"

I can relate to that!

Prayers for a successful mission,New Neighbor.Y'all take care!

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74215: Wonderful what you and the girls are doing, New Neighbor! Know that our prayers accompany you on your journey. May the Lord increase your strength, keep you safe, and may the Love of Christ shine through everything you do and say! AMEN.

I would like to ask your prayers for my friend, Keith, who I have mentioned many times here. He is the man that you prayed for when he lost his wife Linda 3 years ago and he is my partner in the drug rehab ministry. He has been very tired and was recently diagnosed with Rheumatiod arthritis. Now they are saying they beleive he has the biliary chirrosis that sometimes goes along with the RA. It is an autoimmune disease without a cure, in which the person's own immune system attacks the liver, so to speak. If found early, they can slow the progression of the disease but there is no cure besides liver transplant and after seeing his wife go through 2 lung transplants, I am fairly certain he would never consent to a transplant. They haven't done a liver biopsy yet and still have a cat scan to go but from the results of his blood tests, his liver enzymes are way out of whack and suggest that he has the disease. Please pray that he would be ok and that he would slow down and take better care of himself. As a single man, he doesn't get enough rest or probably eat what he should, etc, no matter what we tell him! He is in high gear all the time and has trouble sleeping. I am praying that the Lord would help him to get good sleep. He tends to wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. Well, thanks for the listening ears and the praying souls! You folks are the best America has to offer. (((BIG PORCH HUG)))

Asa says to NN, "Dang girl. You're getting up there."...you had better not say that to me on Friday, ASA! ;-) I can't believe I am going to be 47! Where does the time go?

Better get off here and do some laundry. Erin just informed me that she has no clean underwear. I told her to go commando but she looked at me with great disdain at that suggestion.

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74216: Oh, thanks for the birthday wishes, MAUDE!

HEHE...funny t-shirt Possum! Let me tell you what happened at the lawyer's office yesterday when I took my parents to sign their wills. We were seated in this conference room with the lawyer and he was giving the folks about 20 pages each to sign. Now, poor mom can't use her right hand and has arthritis in her left, but she managed to scrawl her name across 20 pages. She was very talkative for some reason and said some very funny things to the lawyer about getting old. I could not believe it when she said (loudly because she is hard of hearing, and with the characteristic slurred speech of someone who has had a stroke), "I'll tell you something. Getting old s#cks!". I know my eyes about popped out of my head. I never heard her say that before! Also, the lawyer (who happened to be fairly bald on top with a few stray sprigs) was drinking a bottle of green tea and mom, out of the blue, said, "You're drinking green tea? Does it really do all the things they say it does?" The lawyer answered, "Well, it grows hair", to which mom quickly replied, "You should drink alot of it". The guys just said "Thank you". My sister and I had to burst out laughing, of course. It was a bit akward but very funny. Just had to share that "elderly moment" with you Possum. See what we have to look forward to if we live to be 83?

Boo

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74217: Ha! Sounds like something my mama would say,Boo! She's also hard of hearing ,and talks really loud too. I recall once I took her to a doctor and I wasn't familiar with the office-had never been there before. I needed the restroom, but didn't know where it was,so rather than have to speak up loudly and ask her in front of a waiting room full of people,I wrote "Where's the restroom?" on a slip of paper and showed it to her. What she did next was ask very loudly " Where's the restroom?" and of course, everyone's heads turned in our direction! I just stood up and figured, "If you can't beat 'em,join 'em!" and said to the room "Yes,I need to go to the restroom,so we decided to announce it to the world!" Ha!
More recently, when she was at the hospital for that kidney trouble,my sister phoned me to let me know what was going on. I could hear my mom in the background, asking a nurse about when she'd be released. I could hear her tell the nurse "I've got a long way to go and a short time to get there!" Remember that song from Smokey & the Bandit? How she came up with that is beyond me!
Yeah,Boo, we'll have a grand time in our old age, sitting on the Home Depot toilets and blurting out all sorts of FOOL stuff to the fellow customers! Can't wait, can you?!

Prayers for Keith's health.

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74219:
Oh, and boo, prayers for Keith, you bet! mdc

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74220: Now hold on Possum. You say you and Boo, in your old age, are going to "sit on the Home Depot toilets and blurt out all sorts of fool stuff to fellow customers?" You know a feller could read that the wrong way and get the idear. You do realise they are display only and not hooked up to no septic tank. So you better be careful what it is your "blurting". :)

Prayers for Keith Boo. I'm sure I've mentioned before but my wife has the same condition. Auto-immune hepatitis. She has had a liver biopsy and it has been confirmed. That's why she is unable to take any meds for the M.S. She just went to the liver doctor yesterday though and her last few blood works have looked normal. She has blood work done every 2 weeks to keep it checked. Not fun though, and when her liver is out of wack she can hardly get out of bed. So I know what Keith is going through.

Better stay in the shade with them temps MDC. You might burn something otherwise.

Better get back to work. I'm walking crooked again today, daggummit!

Asa

July 28, 2009 - Msg 74221: 117 degrees MDC?!! My eyes almost flew out of my head when I read that. How do you survive it?...wait, don't tell me. Oregano, right? teehee. (Thanks for the birthday wishes!). Do what ASA said and stay out of the sun...otherwise you might get the Herpes... ;-)

Yes Possum, we can toilet-sit at Home Depot when we get old(er) and loudly say things like: "Getting old stinks!", "They call us Q-Tips...white hair, white shoes!" and "Move along, Sonny. Haven't you ever seen two old ladies on a toilet before?!"

Thank you for praying for Keith. I am very sorry to hear that your wife has the same struggle, ASA. Thank you for sharing that with me. Prayers for her and you today.

In case I forgot to mention it ASA, you are welcome to join Possum and me at Home Depot when we are older. You don't have to sit on a toilet but I might make you wear a toolbelt. :-)

Better go tend to the laundry...

Boo

MDC

July 29, 2009 - Msg 74225: Oh my, wouldn't that just make my day, MDC?! HAHA..you are so funny. :-I) The house is going ok, had a problem today, though...the builder already framed the back porch and he put the wrong kind of posts (much to wide), so we had to talk with about that. He says it won't be a big deal to fix but he is very nice and might just be saying that. He is one of those builders that uses his own crew and he works right along with them in the heat all day, so he knows everything that is going on; he just didn't ask us before he framed the posts. I hope he doesn't get discouraged about having to change things. He seems to really put himself into his work. Very nice man and wants us to be happy with the house. He saw me smiling this evening while looking around inside the house and he said, "You are smiling and that's all that matters to me". :-) Things are looking good and I am very pleased with the dimension of things. The living room and kitchen area are very open and spacious, which is what I really wanted. They are already starting to put up that plywood-looking stuff on the outside. :-):-)

Almost forgot!...I read a brief message from Lucy tonight and she said that the surgery didn't go well due to a reaction to the anesthesia. She didn't go into detail but she is still needing our prayers.

Boo

PS-Don't forget to treat me to Whataburger, MDC!

July 29, 2009 - Msg 74226: 50 possum....hee..hee...SPOT

July 29, 2009 - Msg 74227: Thanks for the update on Lucy Boo. She is in my prayers.
I don't think your builder will get upset about having to change things as long as it's reasonable and timely. Having dealt with this a bit, some folks will pick a builder to death on things. Others are a real joy to work with. There will always be things that come up in any construction job that will put the builder and owner on opposite sides. But if discovered and dealt with early, it usually is not much of a big deal, if the homeowner is being reasonable. It sounds like you have a good builder. And it's a good time to be building right now because things are slow. This usually means the builder has a bit more time to deal with things.
MDC, Don't forget ABBA in the singing for Boo and Possum. I forget, but one of them really cottons to ABBA. :)

It's so good to see you back in your rocker Asa now don't you stay gone like that again, we missed you. Where is Tom? Are we going to have to go looking for him now? For your information Mr. Spot,I am 49 years old (for today only though!),so quit hollering "50" at me! Ha! You just wait til December,my friend!
Boo,they are in an awful hurry to put some age on us,ain't they?
Hey,when we were discussing the weird outbursts of our parents,I later remembered my favorite all time "Senior Moment outburst" and that's the 1st thing I'm gonna Blurt out (contrary to what Asa might think!) while doing our Home Depot and Lowe's (good idea,Mavis!)toilet sitting- "Pringles Potato Chips!" Ha! Remember my Thanksgiving story of my Granny's Pringles outburst? One of the great mysteries of life!

Poor dear Lucy- prayers continue. Thanks for the info,Boo.
Asa,must be Boo that likes ABBA,so feel free to drive by her homesite blasting it on your car stereo.Just stay away from my rock with that junk!!

Hey MDC,on the national weather this morning the guy mentioned that y'all were gonna COOL DOWN to ONLY 108 today! You wanna borrow a sweater?!

Let's go to Cracker Barrel this morning for breakfast. We'll put it on spot's tab. We'll even shop in the Cracker Barrel store and pick out some nice birthday gifts for each other,Boo- all on spot! Yell "50" at me,would ya?! We'll have that credit card smokin'! Hee Hee

July 29, 2009 - Msg 74231: Thank you for sharing your experience, ASA. It's very encouraging. Bruce tends to be a perfectionist but I balance him out most of the time and bring him to his senses. ;-) You are right about building at this time. Our builder only takes on one job at a time and we are his project right now. I found out yesterday that his 24 yr old son works right along with him. I knew there was a very nice, well-mannered young man on the job but I didn't know until yesterday that it was Mike's son, when he introduced himself to me. So, if Mike isn't around, his son is. There is always someone to communicate with there on the job, supervising everything....oh, and "bring on the ABBA"...I can take it. I am feeling strong today. hehe

Thanks MAVIS! Hey, great idea about Lowes. I do need to be testing out toilets. If any of you have any toilet advice, I'm listenin'. Just don't bother to tell me about those fancy, expensive ones that wash, dry and warm your fanny. I mean, it would be nice, but for that kind of money I will do it myself. ;-)

HAHA...you are so funny Auh2o! I don't think Me-They has ever mentioned anything about "toilet-avoidance" but there is a chance... Thanks for the BD wishes!

Yes, Possum I have noticed that they are in a hurry to celebrate our birthdays...hmmmm. Are we having a party to celebrate?

If you have a break today and need a reflective moment, I highly suggest going to Youtube.com and search for Mary Chapin Carpenter. Find the song called "Only A Dream". Sit back, close your eyes and enjoy. Love ya'll.
