Good sweep Big Maude. O'Malley's cabin
looks great! Now go out and get some water! ha
I agree with Ro and Me-They, the Chi Rho being Greek for "Christ, the Annointed." It is still used today on vestments.
And Boo, wow another Saint enters the picture! ha
Let's all listen to Andy's "The Guest."
APB for STERLING and others!!
MD, good to see you.
Boo, glad things went well. I wouldn't be too
concerned about your santa 'kabluey' thought.
It was just
a human reaction.
I can understand your reasoning,
but you DID NOT carry it out.
I'm sure the Lord sees it like that also.
So, we repent and move on.
Merry Christmas to all.
We soon celebrate two of God's miracles, a lamp that stayed lit and a virgin birth!
for nothing is impossible with God.

December 09, 2008 - Msg 68478: Well, after dipping about a bushel of leaves out of the pond yesterday, and another bushel or two this morning, and noticing that the filter is clogging with that (excuse me) snotty gunk again, I did it. I went over to Water Gardens and bought a pond net. It's bigger than I need, but the next size down was too small, so I got the one that would fit for sure. It comes with tie-down stakes and all, and my yardman is here today, and will willingly help me put it in place. So as soon as he's finished getting up the leaves that are on the ground, we'll cover the pond. It's a black nylon netting, fine enough to hold back all the trash, but open enough as not to obscure the view of the pond. Should save me a lot of work, and since it's going to be around 30 tonight, and lots of wind, I really don't want to get out there again tomorrow and fight those miserable leaves.

And now to see about getting some pictures into the album! See ya! --Romeena

Now I have another problem. I keep thinking I'm missing a picture or pictures that someone else sent, and can't find them. Big Maude, was it you? I know I put some of yours in a while back, but seems to me there were more? Who am I missing? Help me, folks!

Eddie helped me get the leaf net over the pond, and I'm delighted with the result. You can't see it from any distance, and up close it still doesn't obstruct the view of the fish. Leaves don't collect on it, they just hit it and keep going, because it's open and the wind underneath blows them off. Wish I had done this three years ago! The net cost $25, and no telling what I'll save in filter fluff, burned-out pumps, and doctor bills from when I catch pneumonia out there dipping leaves out of that icy water! As my German/Jewish grandmother would have said, "We get too soon old and too late smart." --Romeena

December 09, 2008 - Msg 68491: Sorry to keep popping in and out, causing some to put apb's out for me. Don't like keeping you all wondering.

Kai has been sick these past few days, and today, although she was a lot better, she was home with me as they had a snow day today. That's ok though, because she kind of needed another day of rest.
Let me bring up something I'm sure you all want to talk about again..., Vicks!
I'll tell you, I am one of the believers now on that Vicks on the feet for coughs thing. The last couple nights, as her congestion has been breaking up causing her to have some nasty coughing fits, I decided to try it.
Well, I put some on her feet, and I swear it is true, the coughing stopped. She did wake up later on in the night with some more coughing, but all I had to do was put more Vicks on, and it stopped again. She had a milder fit last night and I did the same thing, with the same results.
I tell you, that Vicks is amazing!
She's now pretty much back to her old self and ready to go to school tomorrow. Unless of course they have another snow day. Of course it has to snow for that.

Prayers for Jubi, Boo. Have you heard anything yet?

You've got a mean streak, Boo. Wanting to off Santa like that. ;)
No, I can understand your wanting the focus to be on the true reason for the season.
And you know, if you change around the last 3 letters in Santa, you get something else, who is not so jolly and kind and really does want to replace God. Is that a coincidence?

Oh, speaking of pictures, Romeena, did you ever receive my pic of the "mouse" in the corn pudding?

December 09, 2008 - Msg 68493: Right, Sterling, haha. You're funny, and you're right, too, VICKS does work for coughs. I had a problem last year, though, because when I put it on and then the socks, my feet almost burned up! I couldn't take it for long before I was pulling of the socks and wiping the vicks off my feet.

I am sorry to report that Jubi does have cancer again and it appears to be the same form of cancer that she had in a kidney before. They will be starting chemo very soon and already have the port in place to do so. Please continue to pray for Jubi, her family and her church family, too. This is hard on all of us and I am heartsick about it. Please pray for peace for the family, healing, and that Jubi's church family would be able to minister to them in the way they need most.

Love to All,

December 09, 2008 - Msg 68494: I just saw Me-They's picture of the kids. WOW, did they grow!! I can't believe that's Nora, she looks so much older than the last pictures. Such cute kids, thanks for sharing M-T.

December 10, 2008 - Msg 68495: Good late evening, or maybe early morning? Sterling, I did get that picture, and at first I couldn't see the "mouse", and then suddenly, there it was. I also saw one up in the upper right hand corner, like he was covered in pudding and just blending in, but you could see his outline. Did you want that picture in the album?

Boo, I'm so sorry to hear about Jubi. That's so sad, and especially right here at Christmas, which should be such a joyful time. I'm sure we'll all keep the whole family in our prayers.

Well, that monster tree is finally done. Every year I tell myself that I won't decorate it as heavily, won't use all the ornaments, etc. Then when I get started, there's no place to stop, as almost every ornament has some special value or meaning for me. There are about twenty that are very special, and they don't go on until everything else is done, lest they be accidentally knocked off and broken. However, there are multiplied dozens of less-special ones and it just takes forever to get them all on there. Anyway, it's done except for the bottom - cotton batting and little snow village, but that doesn't take long. Then there are the "sit-arounds" as my mom called them, but again, that doesn't take long.

The big time consumer in that area is the Nativity, which has about 25 pieces and which I arrange with great care on the credenza in the dining room. It takes about an hour to get it just the way I want it. The pieces are ceramic, done by me many years ago - about 60 hours of work in that set, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Which reminds me - I haven't done any ceramic work in several years, and I think I'd like to get back to it one of these days. I have my own kiln, which saves a great deal on the cost since I don't have to pay to have the pieces fired. Before I can do such a thing, though, I've got to clean out my crafts area. I have an area across the end of this room, behind two sets of bi-fold doors, that was designed and built just for my "foibles" as my DH called my hobbies. Shelves, drawers, good lighting, desktop work space - it's great, but it's filled with junk right now. I couldn't spread a project out in there if I tried. I need to drag in some trash bags and start tossing. There's everything in there from old dried-up ceramic paints to long-dead computer components that I don't know what to do with. Trash them, I guess. Sometimes I fear that I'm becoming a hoarder, like those dotty old ladies you see on TV.

Well, I'm pooped, and I'm off to bed. Starr has very pointedly walked to the bedroom about three times, but refuses to stay there alone and always comes back to me. I think she's tired too. Sweet little thing.

Be blessed, everyone. See you tomorrow. --Romeena

December 10, 2008 - Msg 68496: Mornin' Y'all. I woke up thinking about Jubi this morning and hoping for positive news concerning her.I'm so sorry that she is still fighting cancer.God Bless her. December 10, 2008 - Msg 68499: Good morning, all. Would you believe it's 29 degrees here in the Dallas area? I'm firing up my camera! The net over the pond is held about two inches above the umbrella fountain. The wind has blown water up onto the netting, and it has frozen there, just above the little bell of water. From my window, it looks very interesting, will get some pictures. Also, gotta put out critter feed. Poor little things, out there in that cold!

I can't believe my house isn't all completely decorated and there are no cookies baked, not a one! This is the latest I've ever been, I think, getting those things done. However, it looks like none of my out-of-towners will be here for Christmas, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Well, off I go to feed the squirrels and birds. Got some stale dinner rolls and a big bag of birdseed. Also a couple of pieces of fruit - they'll love that! Be blessed, all. --Romeena

December 10, 2008 - Msg 68500: Good morning everyone. It's a very warm 60 degrees here but raining.

BOO: I'm so sorry to hear about Jubi. She, her family, and you will surely be on my prayer list. Miracles do happen.

Yeah, those kids grow like weeds. It's funny, I was in church the other day and Chad and Veda were vying for my lap as they sometimes do (the Mrs. was liturgist so there was only the one lap available). Every so often Nora will want to sit on our lap. I was looking at her sitting there and realized that--all of teh sudden--she was too big to sit on my lap. Sure, she can still fit and all, but you know what I mean; she's too big to sit on my lap in church as a little kid might. It was a really sad thought to think that before I knew it those days have passed. It also reminded me that I have to take advantage of all the heads-on-shoulders, wet smooches, and tucking in that I can before they are just memories.

STERLING: I hope that Kai is feeling better today. AS far as the Vicks on the feet helping coughs, well, let's just say that my prejudice aganist this particular stinky product may be clouding my objectivity, but I'd be inclined not to confuse corollation with causation.

Vicks on feet--does it get any worse? All you have to do is shove a little mayo on there and you've got a Me-They repellent.

ROMEENA: Thanks for sticking my pic in the album. I'd be happy to help you clean out that room. Closets and junk drawers are a specialty.

As I mentioned, I'm not on Christmas card list this year, but don't confuse that with not wanting you all to have a most blessed Christmas. Y'all are very special people.

Sure wish AFD, ASA, AUH2O, HAZEL, and some others we haven't heard much from lately would stop by. I'll even give up the swing.

I'll be back later.

TIMELESS TREASURES.
A winter's portrait , so bountiful,
Nature's gift indeed...
Though lurking are the lifeless flowers
Returned to eart as seed.
All sacred gifts sent unto us
Are made by God's own hands-
And always, they are precious ones
To love just as He plans!
While lilies in the valley rest,
And clad are revives trees...
A lifeless day revives the soul
Through snowflakes on a breeze.
These heavenly troves to come our way,
So beautiful, big or small...
Will touch our lives through each new day-
God's gifts... they're best of all!

PRAYRE FOR ALL.

That quote is really something and I think about that sort of thing often. I'm not sure if I have shared this before, but for the past year or so, when I am in bed waiting for sleep, sometimes this fear grips me at the realization that I won't always be "here" as I am now. I got a little update tonight on church, concerning Jubi. Her dad was there and told us that the doc told them that things looked better than he had expected because usually, he said, the kind of cancer he thought it was was a very rapidly growing cancer but this isn't. They are waiting for the final report from pathology, though. He said something about the docs thinking it was something called a "Wilms" tumor, I think, if any of you know anything about that. I don't know much about cancer, really.

Well, I think I will relax for a bit.

December 11, 2008 - Msg 68543: Auh2o, please send us some pictures when you get the remodel done. I'll bet it will be worth the work.

I wonder how things are going with Homemaker's house? We finally got the new plans back but they were really "off"...I think the guy has a problem with his memory or something. Anyway, Bruce is meeting with him soon to fix things. One change we made that I think I am going to like is to turn the kitchen around so that the table will be at the back wall of the kitchen, which will have three windows overlooking the backyard. I think that will be nice and will let in so much light. I am rethinking my choice of countertops, though, because everything may be too white. I want white cabinets, so maybe the granite should be something else...I hate making decisions!

I can't believe you all are warm, Possum. We are freezing down here in south texas! We even had to bring in the delicate plants last night. It won't last, though. It'll be back in the seventies by tomorrow, maybe today.

Thanks for those prayers, Mavis. How are things going with the house?

Well, Erin is up and I am going to keep her home again today. She is asking for a pancake..

I just got an email from Jubi's mom and she is getting her chest tube out today and is doing well. Her mom said, "If everthing goes as well as Jubi expects it to, she will be in church on Sunday". That kid is something else.

December 11, 2008 - Msg 68559: They're serving chicken croquettes over at the diner this evening. Not too bad if you douse them with catsup...
the side that comes with them are yellow wax beans. I asked for green beans as a subsitute but Flora said no.

December 11, 2008 - Msg 68560: Well, howdy there, Barnwannabe! Long time no see. Don't be such a stranger, boy - come around more often. Leon, you sort of pop in and out too - wish you'd stick around.

And a howdy to you too, M. Tucker/Lester. You're welcome on this porch - just choose an identity and hang on. Conversation sometimes moves pretty fast around here, so hang onto your hat.

I went to my SS class Christmas party this evening, and it was a lot of fun. "Admission" was a contribution to BBMOI (Baptist Benevolent Ministries of Irving) which our church helps support, and we also had a potluck supper. I never saw so much good food, and I ate waaaay yonder too much of it, and now all I want to do is sit and rock. Better yet, I think I'll hit the sack. I worked last night, and haven't slept all day, so have been up over 36 hours, and I'm feeling it. Here I go! Good night, all. --Romeena

Talk to you all later today-ky girl

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68564:
Hey Folks

I gotta tell ya, it is great to have this Porch, THANKS Floyd! We've been a bit over stressed, over budget, and over snowed but all is well. I haven't been posting much but I check my email every night and giving the Porch a quick rock. I can't believe how comforting a cyber Porch can be, again, THANKS Floyd.

Here's an article in a local paper about our early winter, http://www. buffalonews. com/home/story/520715.html
Of course there are no spaces if ya want to cut and paste it.

I'll be back later friends,

auh2o

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68565: Fruitcake cookies, Mavis...sorry, my nose is "curling up"...it's just involuntary. My favorite cookies are Ranger Cookies like my Aunt Lou makes. Have you moved all the way into the new house yet?

Romeena, you worry me staying up so long. That is hard on a body to go 36 hours without sleep, and during flu season....take care of yourself, Dear One.

Boy, you are so right AUh2o. It is a comfort coming here (most of the time, anyway) :-)

Lots to do today. I was so busy I didn't get to sit on the porch with my morning coffee today. I got Erin off to school and now we have to go meet with the guy about adjustments on the houseplans....will this ever end?!

See ya later.

Boo

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68570: This is just one of those quick check ins that I make. House has been delivered but will not be finished for another couple of weeks. We have had contractor problems and so the guy that did the foundation work, etc. is being fired by me and I am in the process of getting someone else to clean up his messes! So - it looks like January before we will be in. I am so looking forward not to have to carry wood in and keep the wood stove going. I am getting lazy but I am also getting old.

We have had so much rain that things are getting delayed because of it. If the contractor had done what he said he was going to do when he said he was going to do it - we would be in it by now!

I have began to receive porch greetings and it has been very uplifting. Thank you Romeena for organizing this! You are a treas----ure!

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68576: Homemaker, so sorry you are having difficulties! I am very glad that you will soon have heat. I had to heat a cabin last year for a week with a wood stove, and boy, it was a pain. Just think how much easier it will be for you to flip a swith this winter instead of hauling in wood! Hang in there..it's all come together before you know it.

M-T, seems like I remember reading somewhere about a town even called a "fruitcake toss". That sounds like a good thing to do (as long as you don't throw it AT anyone...could be very dangerous) :-)

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68579: The fruitcake cookies sound good, can't wait till they come out of the oven.I guess I'm one of the rare people who likes fruitcake! One I used to buy every year was a Claxton Fruitcake from a shop in Georgia. My first husband usually had a couple jobs in and around the Ocala , Florida area, around christmas time and we would stop at a little shop, I know it was in Georgia but, I can't remember the name right now.MDC I like the 12 days of christmas! That is very creative.Sounds like a good idea to hop in that sleigh with Spot and Miss Sherry and go look at some christmas lights.Boo,I wish I had a nearby cabin to go to this weekend, I wouldn't even mind bringing in the firewood. I need a break, and ,a cabin sounds great.Well, better get some more done around here. Talk to you all later-ky girl

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68580: Boo, a fruitcake toss? Where did they toss it to?-ky girl

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68581: One more thing, just a little FYI tip; if you have clothing that has lint on it and you don't have a lint brush or tape to get it off, the stick on christmas bows will work just as well, it just takes a few more of them than it does tape!My scrubs had lint on them last night, and I used bows to get the lint off. My oldest daughter thought it was the funniest thing, she said she wished she had a camera she would put me on you tube! See you all-ky girl

December 12, 2008 - Msg 68582: Folks, it just occured to me the place I bought the fruitcake was Claxton, Georgia, think I'll go take a nap, I didn't realize how tired I am!-ky girl
