Hey Folks

We've had nasty cold run through the house here but we're all feeling a bit better. School starts tomorrow for the girls. I always miss having 'em around during the day.

Palin does indeed ROCK!

Boo-I'm not sure what denomination she follows but I did hear one of the half-wits in the media wondering what the difference was between Born Again Christians and Evangelicals, when they were discussing Palin ... yeeesh, half-wits.

Boo-My wife and I can relate to the Palin's decision to have their child even though he had downs syndrome. When my wife was having test down during her pregnancy with our youngest, results came back that there was a good chance the baby would have spina bifida. Well, for awhile we were thrown for a loop. We were encourage to consider abortion has a means help us, I can't tell you how offended we were. At no time did we consider abortion, it still angers me to think of it. Our little girl was born in full health, and they wanted us to abort her? I'd give my life for either of my kids, the thought of taking one their lives brings tears to my eyes. Wow, am I ranting, sorry. Let me just say that when Palin was speaking last night it felt like one of us were up there. God Bless her!

September 04, 2008 - Msg 65856: Morning everyone. I only have a minute right now but I'll be back later. In the meantime, BOO, I found this on Wikipedia:

"Palin was originally baptized as a Roman Catholic, but her parents switched to the Wasilla Assembly of God, a Pentecostal church, where she was rebaptized at age 12 or 13, and attended under pastor Ed Kalnins until 2002.[118][119] When she is in the capital, she attends Juneau Christian Center,[120] another Assemblies of God church. Her current home church in Wasilla is The Wasilla Bible Church, under Pastor Larry Kroon[121] an independent congregation.[122][123] Initial reports described her as the first Pentecostal ever named to a major party's presidential ticket; Palin has described herself as a 'Bible-believing Christian' who attends a non-denominational church.[124] The National Catholic Reporter described her as a 'post-denominational' Christian.[125]"

Great news on the house Mavis. Did you use Fife Realty in your search?

Auh2o, We just may have a chance. I kind of hope the media keeps up their nonsense. I think it's gonna backfire on them. Did you see that part when the youngest Daughter was holding the baby? She was liking her hand and then using it to smooth down the baby's hair. It was just beautiful, and real.

Sorry about the loss of your Uncle Tom. Prayers for you to feel better.

September 04, 2008 - Msg 65860: Hey there, ASA. Regarding Palin's baby, I couldn't help but notice that every member of her family (including the youngest daughter) and even Cindy McCain held him last night, with one exception: the eldest daughter. I believe that those vicious runors about him being her secret baby were the reason. In the past, whenever Palin's family were present it was usually her who held her brother. But with those lies still swirling around I'll bet that campaign wranglers have deemed he holding him as strictly verbotten. It would be too much of a bad photo op. I think that's plain sad.

M-T

September 04, 2008 - Msg 65861: I did notice that as well, M-T. Looking back to when Palin was introduced on Friday, I wonder if it was intentional for Bristol to hold Trig in an effort to hide her slight "baby belly", so the McCain/Palin camp could divulge the information at their own leisure.

Tho I thought Sarah Palin did good last nite, I respectfully disagree with some of her Obama digs. I thought it should have been strictly a talk about who she is and her record, rather than take off the gloves so early. For one thing, Rudy Guliani had already done that. I have a feeling that they dont look at each others speeches ahead of time. They need to save some of this stuff for the two month run that lies ahead. Again, in general terms, it was a good speech, just a little over the top in some areas in my humble opinion. But buy me a beer and she's got my vote M-T! ha

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65891: Good evening, everyone. Well, the RNC was very interesting. I still haven't viewed Sarah Palin's speech, will probably do that in the morning, but I saw the major speeches tonight. I'm impressed. I was very happy to see that Mr. McCain didn't start slinging mud. He made a few, mostly humorous jabs at Obama, but he kept it light for the most part. He was a gentleman.

I have no intention of being like the talking heads and rehashing the whole thing. When they started their yammering, I turned them off. Those endless commentaries have always irritated the heck out of me. I heard the speeches, I have a few brain cells and I can form my own opinions. I do not need them to tell me what the person said and what it meant and how I'm supposed to react.

I'm thinking we're in for quite a ride. The more I see of McCain, the more confidence I'm developing in him. I like his wife and the things she has done in the way of humanitarian activities. I like Sarah Palin, and am quite convinced that she's no dummy. She may just be a force to reckon with. I like the fact that although McCain is 72 years old, his mother is 96, and was there looking remarkably fit, so that's a good indicator that he just might make it through his term! Anyway, in my humble opinion, things are looking up.

Be blessed, all. --Romeena

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65893: Very well put Romeena. I watched almost the entire thing on C-span so I wouldn't have to listen to the talking heads. And I have some hope for this race now, something I didn't have a week ago. And it's mostly due to one woman. She sounded like to me a young female Ronald Reagan. She has certainly gotten the consevative base fired up. And I have come away from this with a much higher appreciation of Cindy McCain. I had always kind of looked at her as being a spoiled rich kid, but seeing how shw has devoted her life to the things she has, shame on me for judging her unfairly and harshly. I have tremendous appreciation for all that McCain has gone through and his service to his Country. I guess bottom line he and I just don't agree on a few things and that has made it difficult for me to support him. But considering the alternative I guess there is no other option for me.

That breakfast sounds good Spot. Can I have 3 eggs? I'm starving.

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65894: I hear you, ASA. I really had not gotten that involved with finding out about the candidates until recently (thanks to all of you, mostly, who kept me thinking), and I am seeing just how much Obama and McCain are polar opposites, especially on some of the moral issues. I have to admit, though, that I have serious doubts that Americans will elect another republican president. I think if Bozo the clown was running in Obama's place, he would still have a good chance of being elected (maybe a better one). With things the way they are in this country, and families struggling so, people want change in a big way and I don't think are going to take a chance on another republican...just my opinion, of course, for what it's worth...as Ro sometimes says, "maybe worth the price of a cup of coffee". Speaking of which, mine is gone and I have to get Erin ready for school. TGIF! I don't have to get up before daylight in the morning.

Ro, wanted to tell you that Bruce spoke with the ear doctor about the cochlear implants and the doc told him that they need to try one of the newer aids first to see how he does. I didn't mention that Bruce's mom is having some neurological problems. Her hands have been shaky for years but they have gotten much worse, to the point that she really can no longer write and even has trouble eating and drinking. The doctors are just trying to treat the symptoms without really knowing what is going on because they cannot do an MRI of the brain due to the implants. I don't like that idea much.

Better get going...

Boo

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65895: I agree with your comments Boo, and I am not saying things are not bad right now. But I do think that the media is making it out to be worse than it is though. This is not unusual in an election year where a Republican candidate is the incumbent, to make it appear the world is ending unless we have change. My contention is the main stream news folks seem to be bent on a Democratic Administration and will use their powers to try and make that happen. The article that Sterling reffered to in US magazine is a perfect example. A very negative headline and story full of lies and half truths concerning Palin, with another story that is glowing about the wit and charm of Obama and his wife. And it should be noted, the owner of US magazine is the same person who owns Rolling Stone magazine and has maxed out in what he is legally allowed to contribute to a political party. (did I mention what party? Anyone want to guess?)
I don't mean to dismiss the challanges we are all facing right now. As Barney would say "it's tough, and it's going to get tougher" most likely. Our need for energy is critical for our economic engine in this Country and it's the party who can recognize this, and come up with a plan to deal with it effectively is the one we need to support. Mixed in with all of this is the instability in the Mid East and our dependence on them, it's a real mess that has been in the making for a long long time, not just the last 8 years. Change for changes sake is foolishness IMNSHO. We need people who can face these challanging issues in a realistic manner and implement oppurtunities for American ingenuity to excell and shine. It's worked for over 200 years and now ain't the time to quit on it.
Whew, sorry about that moulage mixer, but I feel better now. :)
Peace all.

"And for the gentleman, Beer" (As in 'What, you don't want a sezerac also, you doofus!') haha
Well, Arizona's favorite son did pretty good, but I got the impression he was trying to avoid any semblence of Barry Goldwater's tough talk speech of 44 years ago. Too bad tho, I think it needed some teeth, instead of the "I'll work with anybody" rather milktoast approach. But we shall see what happens in the next 60 days.
BTW, I heard that Sarah Palin knows how to field dress a moose! I don't know any men or women who can do that! ha

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65911: Thanks yall...sorry I will have to be more carefull.SPOT

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65912: Right, MDC...Bruce, the kids and I were watching that ep last night, too. And Bruce turned to me and said, "Boy, Andy should have held on to Peggy"...My reply was, "Yes, that's what everyone thinks". He was probably thinking, 'I wonder who EVERYONE is..?' I didn't bother to explain our countless conversations on the porch about Peggy being the one that got away. He was also surprised to hear that Peggy was Tatum O'Neal's mom. Boy, the things you learn here on the porch.

Think hard, Me-They...I'll be sitting in front of my computer on Monday morning waiting for the moulage (make it real runny, just for me). What kind of fabric softener do you want in those shorts? Gain or Downey (I prefer Gain but have both)...?

Thanks, SPOT. I am not working too hard. In fact, my dear dad dropped by and had coffee with me and we talked for about an hour. It was nice surprise visit.

By the way, a few days ago Hazel mentioned doing something on the anniversary of Millie's passing and I think that is a great idea. Maybe a quote-a-thon would be nice.

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65914: I for one was very impressed with Cindy McCain last night. I'm guilty of making unfair assumptions about her too, sort of like Barney's assumptions about Peggy. You'd think I'd learn.

Well, a lot more comes to mind, but I think it would be best placed on the blog, not here. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

Jim Cantore's still not anywhere near here (yeah Boo,that's him that you described) so I'm optimistic about Hanna. Me-They,y'all take care up there. Batten down the hatches and all that.
Cindy McCain is okay in my book! I was falling asleep toward the end of Sen. McCain's acceptance speech, but what I heard sounded good. If I am blessed to live 96 years,I hope I look as good as Mama McCain.Isn't she simply elegant?
Well, let me go get something together for supper.Anybody want to take their chances (with my cooking & the weather) come on over!

hey, seriously, get under your rock and be careful!
Btw, having tags on dvd's, I was able to see how chopped up the TV Land versions of tags really are! As I was watching, I was like "they cut THAT out!?" as the show progressed. Oh, they make it look natural with fadeouts, but man, what a hatchet job.
HM- how did the interview go?
God bless you all, will be prayin for ya at preachin'.

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65929: Welcome to you #65927 (& 928) this place is full of the best group of people you will find anywhere. We all found this porch because of our love of TAGS & through our postings have grown to know & love one another like a family. Most of us have never met in person (some of us have met, but not all) but we still feel like one big family. Anyways, we always welcome new folks to jump on in, tell us a little about themselves & pick a Mayberry handle if you so choose. Again, that's not a requirement, just part of the fun. We sit & talk about things just as if we were sitting around on Andy's porch visiting with one another, so the conversation really covers about everything. So, jump in & hang on! I've been coming here for 11 years now (hush up, Asa no cracks about my age!) & my side of the porch is in NE Tennessee.
possum thank you for checking on often, you know we worry about you down there in that storm. Spot listen close now, ya hear? Spot?! do you hear me? Spot! I think possum might better get her little boat out, Spot ain't listening! (HA, funnin with ya Spot) Did you find your last born NN? I hope so. MDC I wanted to tell you, I'm glad to see you posting so much! Where the heck did Otis get off to? Haven't seen him in a few days. Tom are you doing ok? How are your roses you were working on? Well, I'm off to work on my website for a while.
Love ya'll, I hope you know that!

September 05, 2008 - Msg 65930: Do I win the prize for saying Spot so many times in one post? I was so busy picking at him, I forgot to post what I came here for. If any of you haven't read Romeena's Missions to Mongolia blog, I HIGHLY recommend it! I have thoroughly enjoyed it, waiting for the next installment has been torture! I hate to see it come to an end. The blog address is www. romeena-missionstomongolia .blogspot .com without the spaces of course. I'm telling ya, you won't be disappointed. Ok, now I'm off to work on my website.

Welcome newcomer. Pick you and yer wife names and join in the fun. What breed are your furkids? I have a 4 year old Doxie named Barney. We have named his kennel "the rock" and have a little sign over concerning the two rules to remember at "the rock".

Stay dry Possum.

September 06, 2008 - Msg 65932: Good evening, all. Just got home from playing bunco - just twelve old gals having a lot of fun. Most of us have known each other for many years, some of us as long as 30 years or more. We've seen each other through the birth of kids and grandkids, battles with cancer and other serious illnesses, loss of husbands, financial reverses, you name it. We have been together through good times and bad, and still we can gather on a Friday night and play a silly game and eat too much and laugh like schoolgirls, and have a wonderful time. God is good.

#65927, you're welcome here. Our rules are few and simple. Mostly, just be kind, be polite, be considerate. Be slow to take offense, and be even slower to cause it. As Mavis said, we've been together a long time, and we have a bond with each other that you don't commonly find in a forum like this. Actually, I'm not sure there ARE any forums like this one! So, welcome! Let us know how you would prefer to be known, and as a courtesy, we always sign our posts with our chosen handle. Most of us have been here so long we recognize each other's "voices" anyway, but we still sign, just to keep things in order. I'm glad you're a furkid person - most of us are as well. Spot, our talkin' and cookin' dog of the porch, has a lab named Otis. Personally, I have a tiny Maltese named Toye Starr - I couldn't think of a Mayberry name that fit her, wish I could have. And that's another thing these folks have helped me get through - the loss of my other Maltese, Sugarplum, who had been with me for 12 1/2 years. The Plum was the porch mascot for all those years, and we all grieved her loss.

Folks, you would enjoy visiting Mavis's blog, which can be found at www dot groomer ang dot blogspot dot com. You know how to put it together. She writes well, great conversational style, and interesting material. I found myself really wishing I could just put a couple of knobs on the head of an ignorant pet owner she had to deal with. It's good writing when it just carries you along with it.

I have Goober's newest CD - just got it. It's nice, real nice. Our ol' Goob does a very good job on it. Check out his website and you can order one from there. I'm glad I did.

Well, Starr is in here patting my ankle with her tiny soft paw. She was alone for four hours while mama went off and played, and she wants some attention now. Guess I'd better go cuddle her. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

September 06, 2008 - Msg 65933: McMavis!!Hahahaha! Asa you kill me (sorry Mavis).
You really have a sign like that over Barney's kennel? Too funny...maybe you might like to pick up a hobby besides making little signs for your dog...just a thought....hehe.

Mavis, I agree about the Mongolia journal!

A big welcome to #65927! Hope you stay and join us.

I read Goober's comments in your blog, and I am scared, too. God help this country!

I took ended up helping out at a youth party tonight at a friend's house and had a great time. The kids all played XBOX and Wiii, and the adults sat around the table, ate and laughed, mostly...just a wee bit of gossip..nothing too serious...just about this "shoe salesman" who is really a talent scout from Hollywood....

I'm bushed! Think I will hit the sheets with a big smile on my face and a prayer of thanks in my heart for such a nice, comfortable bed. Goodnight Mayberry, my favorite place.

September 06, 2008 - Msg 65935:

I get annoyed when people speculate that because McCain's age he's unlikely to finish his term. All the statistics I've ever heard indicate otherwise! I also don't understand the media's speculation about Ms. Palin's child. I had the choice to have amnio to check for "problems" with my twins while I was in my 5th month. I passed. I was going to have them and keep them no matter what. But that's just my 2¢. Palin appears to be a strong, smart woman. My first reaction, upon learning of McCain's choice for running mate, was that he had either just shot himself in the foot, or made a brilliant selection. This will be an interesting election for sure.

My biggest worry, after this morning's various synopses, has to do with the issue of taxing medical benefits (tax break notwithstanding). It took me years to finally get my whole family insured. Admittedly I might be missing something, but this morning I heard one GOP spokesman ask if anyone expects the government to just "hand out money." I'm fairly confused, but watching closely.

Hope you fared well with the hurricane, Possum.

Welcome, #65927 (& #65928). Pull up a chair and rock with us awhile.

Ro, give Starr a kiss & a hug from the Casa de De§ family, which includes Daisy, my big yellow lab, and my little mutt-dog, Eddie!

~De§~

September 06, 2008 - Msg 65936: Thanks, girls, for supporting the blogs. I'm glad you're enjoying them. As I said in #65914, this wasn't the place to go into a lot of political comment, so it went in the "views" blog - just posted.

About Sarah Palin's baby - I believe he's about four or five months old? And some of the pundits are speculating that he could have actually been the older daughter's child? The one who is five months pregnant? Hmmm. I believe even those dummies should be able to figure that out and still keep their shoes on, since it would require fewer than ten fingers to do so. As Andy would say, "Awww, come onnn!"

Nope, he's Sarah's, she opted to give him life, Down syndrome and all. Hooray for her! And yes, her 17-year old daughter is expecting a baby, and no doubt wishing with all her heart that she wasn't placing her mom in such a situation at this time, but truth is truth. She's pregnant, and that's that. They could have shipped her off to Aunt Martha under an assumed name, she could have had an abortion and no one would have known. But they didn't. True to her beliefs, Sarah Palin and her family are moving forward, they'll have the baby and it will be loved and accepted, and that is as it should be. God bless them.

And now, I'm going to bed. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

September 06, 2008 - Msg 65937: Mornin' Y'all! No problems with Hanna- she came thru in the night with just a few rain bands and some winds. Hard Hearted Hanna? Nah,not at all in my area. Thank the good Lord.
'Preciate all the concern for my welfare. We're still in prime hurricane season so who knows what'll happen. But for now, everything is A-OK here! Prayers for the East Coast-they'll most likely be getting lots of rain from Hanna. Me-They,you & yours stay safe!

P.S. Spot, our power stayed on,so no need to come over. (whispering..Mr. Possum's home!) HA! JUST KIDDING,FOLKS!! And if Spot dares says anything to the contrary, the lights will go out in Georgia! LOL
