Hey Dud, Please don't feel you have to tread lightly on here for me. The last thing I want to do is make anyone feel they can't say something for fear of offending. Feel free to speak your mind, you ain't gonna upset me. I may join in your celebration if in fact she throws in the towel tonight. That remains to be seen though. My only concern is that the two who remain standing don't really trip my trigger either. I'm really bothered by that. Oh well, whatever will be will be.

Hey Boo, you having snail and brains tonight for dinner? Better be careful what you point at on that fancy menu.

Ro, you reminded me of Barney talking about watching them cook your meal at Morelli's when you mentioned you can watch the girl pull the cookies right out of the oven ha ha. And then saying all that for 40 bucks. I was just waiting to hear you say "and don't forget the succatash, an ample portion of succatash. I hope you left them a 50 cent tip. LOL

Well, my cold is worse but I left the hotel for lunch and actually found the old Tip Top Cafe. I got there before noon and got a table right away. the place looks like it did 50 years ago but very clean and good service. I didn't feel like eating much and just had a grilled cheese and coffe but it was fun anyhow.

Managed to do just a little shopping but not much. I think I will read a good book and kick back...

June 03, 2008 - Msg 63196: Good afternoon, everyone. Just got back from taking the car in for the oil and filter change, and sure am glad I did. They found a broken engine mount - fixed it at no cost to me. The car is an '04, still under full warranty until 2010 or 100k miles, but I'll never hit the miles. It will age out first, and I'll trade it just before it does. I've owned it since late '05 (I think) and have never paid for any repairs - the warranty always covers. As I said earlier, you can't beat that with a stick, and the car is a joy to drive.

Starr enjoyed the trip, sat in my lap like a little lady and held court with everybody who entered the room. She got lots of pats and ear scratches, and there were as many men as women who stopped to talk to her. She loved it! She got to lick cappucino foam off my finger, and had several bites of a warm white chocolate/cranberry cookie. Just the cookie part, no chocolate for her, white or otherwise.

I just washed out the pond filters (yet again) and noticed that a couple of fish seem to be missing, unless they were hiding under the bridge. I think old Daddy Longlegs bird has been back, drat his old tailfeathers. I'm not raising those pretty little fish to feed him, I'll have him know! I also noticed there's a whole school of little tiny fish out there, an inch long or so, at least a dozen of them. I never bought them, they had to have been born there. How about that??

Hey, Boo! Wow, the Alamo Cafe and the Tip Top both - how lucky are you, girl? Some good eatin' to be had at those places. I don't know if Schilo's Deli is still in operation downtown, but they had great food, too. My dad loved to go there and have a deviled egg, a bowl of split pea soup and a pastrami-on-rye, with a big mug of root beer. Good! Sure hope you get to feelin' better. That's really annoying, to be on vacation and feeling poorly. As for a good book, have you read "The Kite Runner"? Very good, and appropriate for these times.

Dud, next time you're in this neck of the woods, give me a holler. You say you had lunch at the stockyards in Ft. Worth? Did you eat at Risky Rita's by any chance? Some gooood eatin' there, too!

Well, I feel a nap coming on, and I think I'll just do it! No reason not to. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

June 03, 2008 - Msg 63197: "For the love of Mike, do it! Take a nap, Romeena!"...hehe, love that episode. No, I have not read the kite runner but have heard about it.

Hey there, M-T, I thought about you the other night when I got into this hotel bed (no kidding)..all I could think of was the bedbug epidemic you spoke about recently...thanks alot. Slow down and try not to work so hard.

I was trying to take an afternoon nap when the housekeeper started slamming things around in the room next to me. Maybe I'll try again before Bruce gets back from his class.

June 03, 2008 - Msg 63200: Yeah Dud, and Dr. P mentioned it also I think, but I did ask the insur@nce company, and they said no, to my surprise. They said it would have to come from my wife's dad since it was his car. Bummer. But the wife had taken out a tribal loan to pay for her next trip there, so she will have to use some of that.

Had my interview yesterday for the rent-to-own place. Went well, and they said they will call in a day or so.
Don't know if I really care too much, except financially, if they don't hire me for that one. The manager was telling me they sometimes have to go to people's homes to get the stuff back when the customer isn't paying, and sometimes the customers really don't want to give up their table, or whatever. See, I've dealt with disgruntled customers before(insur@nce agents in my last office job), but that was on the other end of a phone, not going into irate people's homes when you try to take back their possesions.
Anyway, that job seems to have a lot of turnover. That ad for delivery drivers is in the paper every few months or so. So I don't know if it is because they get tired of dealing with irate customers, or if they just throw their backs out, or maybe optimistically they are all getting promoted out of the job. ;)

Romeena, maybe you should get a cat. Not a real one of course as he would like the fish just as much as the bird does, but maybe a fake one, with a bobble head or something. ;)

Barney: "I just came in for some foot powder"

June 03, 2008 - Msg 63205: Good evening, all. Sterling, years ago my husband had a job similar to what you're describing, and based on his experience with them (about six months) I'd say the reasons you gave would all be valid, except the last one - promotion. Nobody stayed around that long. Still, it paid the bills until he got something else. And it's true, some people got a bit upset when he showed up to take back their big old TV (that's what they rented mostly), but my husband was 6'4" and weighed about 280, and had a partner who was a fairly little guy but was mean as a snake and looked like it, so they didn't get much argument.

A bobble-head cat, you say? Hmmm. Might work. Might not, but it might work. I'll have to think about that. And find the cat, which might be hard to do. It would have to be a pretty big cat, since this bird stands about three feet tall.

I've been watching WGN tonight - they've got some sort of "retro" thing going on. I got to see several episodes of "Barney Miller", which is one of my all-time favorite shows. Not like TAGS, of course, but still a favorite. The casting was perfect, the writing was very creative, the humor subtle and still very funny. One ep tonight featured a prisoner who thought he was a werewolf, and at midnight he imagined he was changing. The inimitable Asian actor Jack Soo, as Nick Yemana, became convinced the change was happening. He told Barney that "hair is starting to grow out of his face." Barney replied (of course), "That's called a beard! It happens!" Nick's reply was classic: "Not in my family!" Funny stuff. I think they're featuring eps of "Taxi" tomorrow night - another good show.

Well, guess I'll turn in. Starr has been in here nudging me on the ankle, so I guess she's ready for bed. She had a big day today, going to the car dealership and all. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

ROMEENA: I love "Barney Miller," too. I always thought it was a lot like "M*A*S*H;" it was really funny but usually had a serious message lurking in the background, and great bunch of characters. In both shows, when a character left the show (Yemana, for example, who died I believe, and Frank Burns) they brought in a completely different but equally funny character (Dietrick/Winchester).

HOBO: Continued prayers for your newphew.

They do have their place, though. I wouldn't have my little Starr if my son hadn't provided his laptop while we were in Destin last year. The whole deal for acquiring her was arranged over the net, using his laptop, on a very shaky connection involving his cell phone. I still don't know how he did it, but he did, bless him.

We haven't had power at home since about 3:00 yesterday, which because we are on a well means no water. They got the power back on for our street last night around 8:00 p.m.--that is for the house until ours. It is very inconvenient, but nothing compared to what others around the country and the world are enduring from storm and other disasters. Tell the truth it really hasn't bothered me much, even though our frig will have to be dumped now and I had to get ready at work thsi morning. Actually, I feel blessed. One time a day I'd have been muttering angrily under my breath. Maybe I'm growing up?

Our yearly vacation with my folks and aunts in set to begin on Sunday. However, the Mrs. is losing valuable hours not being able to get any work done on the computer. Normally, we'd arrange someone to watch the kids and she'd go in the office, but Nora has a doctor's appointment today, she's picking my aunt up at the airport, I can't get away today, blah, blah, blah. If she doesn't get so many hours in, it's bye-bye first couple of days of vacation. I hope that doesn't happen,a nd it probably won't, but it's in the Lord's hands.

BOO: I was referring to the TAGS ep where Aunt Bee wears the blonde wig and all the ladies in town thinks she's putting on airs. I wouldn't wear a blonde wig. Now, something in a two-tone brown...

Yep, MDC...always right on time.

Just finished the grocery shopping, straightening up, cleaning the kitchen and realized how happy I was doing it. A vacation is nice but I love being a wife and mom (most of the time, anyway..ha). I have Karen's kids with me today and they will be staying the night. We have all had a tough time the past few weeks since it's been a year now that Karen passed. It's good for us all to be together. On my trip to San Antonio, as I drove around in that part of Texas, I was reminded of Karen often and the many trips we took together with the kids. It's funny I still think about how she would like a certain place or wish I could share those memories with her. Oh well, I know I'll see her again, thank the Lord.

June 05, 2008 - Msg 63237: MDC going to Fla deep sea fishing the 19th then when we get back the next week the 27th going camping!...lets meet at Longhorn for supper..SPOT

June 05, 2008 - Msg 63238: Howdy, all. Just stopping by on my way to work. Our hours have changed, we now clock in at 6:45pm and get off at 7:15am. I don't mind the change at all - the extra fifteen minutes at home in the evening didn't help at all anyway, but getting home earlier in the morning sure is nice.

You'll never guess what's growing in my back yard. It came up wild, and I let it go, curious about what it was. At first it looked a lot like brugmansia (Angel's trumpet), of which I have two. I thought perhaps a bird had carried some seed over or something. Well, the bigger this thing got, the more clear it became that it was NOT brugmansia. It's now taller than I am, and I still had no idea what it was until my friend Ted came this morning to fix the landscape lights. I showed it to him (an old country boy) and he identified it immediately. It's poke salat! (No, not poke salad, that's a misnomer.) Anyway, I checked it out on the internet, and sure enough, that's what it is. It's now too mature to cook, as it would be poisonous at this point. I wouldn't have cooked it anytime, even if I had known what it is, but I do think it's interesting that it's growing right there in the yard. It's something you usually find in deep rural areas, along creek banks and such. There are actually three plants, all of them huge. Guess I'll pull them up now, since I know what they are.

Well, gotta get going. Have a great evening, everyone. Be blessed! --Romeena

Hope everyone is doing OK. I saw that therte were more tornadoes in the midwest. Prayers indeed.
Thanks for the nice verse NN !
Hey to Tom and ASA.
Boo- hang in there, I know how you feel. I lost a good friend and high school classmate last month. he lived in Seattle. Just never brought it up here. But you are right, we shall meet again in heaven!
Anyone hear about the SECRET tracking of 100,000 cellphone users to see where they went? Scary stuff.
" and all are to be given a mark on their right hands..."Rev.13
OK, I admit that i am stretching it, but still, someone somewhere knew right where these 100,000 people were WITHOUT their knowledge.
Well, on to better things, have a great weekend.
God bless you all!
MDC

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63248: Doesn't seem like it would be so hard to track people without their knowledge with technology as advanced as it is. We are being traked by cameras just about everywhere we go these days...can't even run a red light without being caught on cameras at intersections. That's just the way it is. The thing that I would not do is have the microchip implanted. No way would I give anyone the capability to track me every second of the day. Crazy and I pray it never comes to that. With all the identity theft and the way everyone uses plastic, seems the next logical step would be a microchip under the skin but I'm not going there.

Better go, need to visit the folks...

Boo

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63249: I haven't heard of it, MDC. What's it all about? (the secret tracking thing)
- Hazel

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63250:
Hazel, it was in our newspaper yesterday.
Cellphones were secretly tracked by an independent research company to see how far from home people go during a given amount of time.
If you Google "100,000 cell phones tracked" you can get several stories on it.
Of course, up there in Idaho, I know that you still have to go thru Sarah to make a call! haha

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63251:
Hello porch family......pray that all is well with you folks.

Spot....I'm sure you'll have a great time camping even if you don't go deep sea fishing.

MDC....the secret tracking deal is a new one on me. Haven't heard if this. Of course it would be easy to do if they wanted to.

Tom...try and stay cool buddy.

I'll check back later. Prayers for all the porch family.

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63252: Well I am thinking that I didn't get the job I interviewed for on Tuesday - she said she would most likely make her decision by the end of the week so I didn't get a call and that is alright. Something will come my way this summer. I am putting my heart and soul into finding something different than where I work and make decent pay. I would work for the Christian school in the nearby town but I unfortunately can't live on their salary. They lost their teacher for that very reason.

Please keep praying about this for me - I cannot face the same job I had this past year. I simply cannot. Thank you!

hm

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63253: I haven't heard of that either, MDC. Where did you hear of it?
I know I for one turned off the GPS device on my cell phone, for reasons such as this.
Weird that this topic has come up. I have recently been viewing some scary videos on the subject on YouTube. Just do a search in YouTube for "microchip" if you want to see what I mean.

Speaking of cellphones, I just received a text message from my wife, saying that her grandma is not responding again and that she doesn't know if she will last the weekend.
I think she would last and might even get better, if they would start tube-feeding her again. Last I heard, they were just giving her liquids by "sponge"(?). I mean, you can't really expect someone to get better by starving them, can you?!
Though I can't really say too much as I am not over there and don't know the whole story.
All I do know from what I was told is that she was responding; nodding or shaking her head for questions, using her arms, and was cogniscent of who was around her.

Anyway, today is the first day of Kai's summer vacation. Haven't really done too much. She wants to go to the park but we always go there, and just went yesterday after school. It looks kind of stormy(off and on) and windy anyway. But no where near of how it is down south, I hear. We're pretty lucky in that respect.

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63255: Hey MDC, you must have snuck in on me. I'll be sure to look up what you mentioned.

Hm, I sure will pray for your job situation, and I am in the same boat! :)
Haven't heard from the rent-to-own place, and like you, don't really care too much about that one.
I've actually applied again to the store I just left, but only for a position in the offices upstairs. Store manager encouraged me to do so, so I did. Hopefully something will pan out there.
Good luck and prayers in your job search, hm.

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63256: Thank you Sterling - it was very awkward going to an interview after having 20 years at the same place. I thought I could out last this director but I can't. She has absolutely no heart and she micro manages everyone. Can you believe that one of my character flaws is that I am independent (a traveling teacher in her car by herself all day, every day and I am independent - go figure that one out!)

June 06, 2008 - Msg 63257:
Hello porch family...hot hot hot.

Spot....I'm sure this heat is hard on your power demand.

Sterling...prayers for your family.

Tomorrow I head up to Princeton,WV for a concert so I won't be able to visit the porch for a couple days. But I'll be praying for all the porch family. Remember....Jesus loves you!

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63258: Good morning, all. I finally rejoined the land of the living, after working two twelves - Wednesday and Thursday nights. My landscaper friend was here yesterday morning when I got home from work, so I was up all day working with him. We got a lot done. I got to lie down for an hour after he left, then got up and went to our monthly bunco party and had a great time. That group of women would keep a wooden Indian laughing. Then I came home, hit the bed and was practically comatose for about eight hours, and now I feel wonderful!

Eloise's granddaughter (my DIL's niece) is graduating from high school this afternoon, but I'm not going. I'm staying home and keeping my two little grandsons, who would never have been able to sit still and would have been supremely BORED!!! Awwww. I don't get to sit there and watch several hundred little blue dots walk across a distant stage. I have to stay home with two hilarious little boys and play outside, have pancakes for lunch, and watch a silly movie. Poor me! Then we're going over to the graduate's house for dinner, prepared by her mother who is a gourmet cook. Should be interesting. She makes some really great stuff.

I acquired a ten-dollar bill in change yesterday, and noticed it's smaller than the other bills, by about 1/8" in both directions. I think I'll keep it for a while, until I can learn more about it - and whether it's genuine. It's well-worn, though, so I can't imagine it could be counterfeit and have survived an unknown number of trips through the bank. Maybe it's something I've missed, and small $10 bills are common. My powers of observation aren't all that sharp these days.

Well, gotta get some errands done before the two small tornadoes arrive. I imagine my son will bring Bentley too (their dog) so Starr will be a happy puppy. She and Bentley are great friends, but they sure do mess up a house - toys everywhere! Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63259: Me again... Interesting about the cellphone tracking thing. Part of me says "who cares? I don't go anywhere I'd be ashamed of anyway." Besides, I already have an intentional tracking device in my car - it's called OnStar! Frankly, I'm glad it's there, because if the car is stolen it can be found. More importantly, if I happen to be IN it when it's stolen (carjacking, kidnapping) I can be found as well. There's a fair amount of comfort in that knowledge.

However, I'm not as accepting of having my cell phone tracked, but not because I'm scared of "big brother" or some statistics-gathering outfit thousands of miles away. My concern is rooted in the astonishing rate of advancement of technology these days. If government or some large data-gathering company knows where I am, I really don't care. However, if some delusional and demented techno-nerd with mayhem on his mind learns how to track people, that's scary. Now I seriously doubt someone like that is going to go after an aging, crusty old gal like me, but I have beautiful daughters, daughters-in-law and granddaughters who could be prime targets. So, the "I" which I have used is a collective one. I'd prefer that some monster not be able to track any of us, and it certainly can happen. We went from computers that required a huge, well-chilled room, available only to big corporate America and government, to the one that sits on my desk, in a few short years and mine has waaay more power than the big old original models had. That's what scares me. Not so much what corporate or governmental entities will do with such technology - it's when it falls into private hands that it gets sticky, because some of those hands will be pretty dirty. --Romeena

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63260: Can I come to lunch too, Romeena? That would really hit the spot, pancakes and a silly movie. I agree with you on graduations. Hundreds of tiny blue dots. I bring my binoculars to those things.
Well, I had dental surgery on Thursday, and am feeling sick as a dog and NOT having the time of my life. Will go and lay down now.

Barn: "Hey, I just saw your mother-in-law coming out of the dentist!" (To Otis, who had hit her in the mouth with a leg of lamb)

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63261: Come on, Hazel, and have lunch with us. I'm not making traditional pancakes, though. I watched Alton Brown on "Good Eats" one night, and he was making jonnycake. I got his recipe, and I think that's what I'll make. I'll tell the kids they're "Indian pancakes". That will get them interested. My grandma used to make jonnycake, but I never knew how she did it. Now I know! --Romeena

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63262: Your second post snuck in on me, Ro. I agree. I doubt anyone would be interested in where I go and what I do, but as we all know there are lots of criminals out there who have nothing better to do than figure out how to steal peoples identities and steal money from them; and with even more knowledge of peoples activities, I'm afraid it would be used for no good purpose.
- Hazel again

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63263: That's it, Ro! The criminals tracking our cell phones to figure out our recipe for Jonnycake!
- Hazel

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63264: Romeena can I join you ladys for lunch..I just got up so pancakes would be good!..but I do not care for Alton Brown shows..love cooking shows but just not the way his shows are produced..Bobby Flay!..put my net top on my boat and it looks good..mid 90"s here..hey TOM,Rev,auh20,asa,M-T...Maude?..possum,Lucy,Robyn,NC,NN,sterling and all...im off till mon at 2pm..got a good short shower last night on the garden..well im back to waxing on the boat....maple syurp please Romeena...SPOT

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63265: Omigosh, Hazel! I hadn't thought about that, I'll bet they really are after our recipe for jonnycake. Well, they can't have mine! Or maybe I'll sneak some weird ingredient in, and then let them get the recipe. Something like plaster of Paris or something - that'll fix 'em!

Yeah, I know, Spot, ol' Alton is weird, but he's pretty funny sometimes, too, and he does have some good recipes. --Romeena

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63266: "Hand over the Johnnycake recipe and nobody gets hurt....!"

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63267: I don't know about that. You might get hurt a lot if I give you the tricked-up recipe. --Romeena

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63268: Hello Family:
It's HOT HOT HOT here too. Ro- do you think they want some of those killer pickles. Ya know, the fairs will be coming up soon and they gotta have a winning pickle recipe!! Asa, give em yours! No, never mind, they smell like dirty feet...
Have a blessed day tomorrow . ~New Neighbor

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63269: It takes a wiley woman to mess with a man's Johnnycakes, Miss Romeena...they should call you "Bloody Mary"!

June 07, 2008 - Msg 63270: HeeHee...love the Johnnycake humor!

Hazel, I was watching some TAGS today and noticed that there is another Hazel in TAGS besides the chicken. Hazel is also the pianist in the episode about Barney and the Choir.

The weekend is sort dull. Hey Ro and Hazel, how about we go spend Saturday night in that fancy hotel in Raleigh? It costs 7 dollars a night but they have twin beds. We could eat french food and hang out with the hotel detective. I happen to watch that jewel theif ep tonight and thought it was so funny that Andy and Barney shared a room with twin beds. Couldn't they have gotten two rooms? Would seem more normal for grown men.

Better go get Erin out of the shower and ready for bed...

Preachin' tomorrow!...
