June 21, 2006 - Msg 40204: Well, what happened? I tried to post, it wouldn't go through, I tried again, and it posted part of it. There was a bunch of stuff after Tom and BWB. I'll repeat it, maybe a bit more briefly. I did have a good lease, she just didn't live up to it. No dogs, keep things watered, etc. I have a $1400 damage deposit, which of course I'll keep. I have pictures taken before she moved in, and I'm taking a lot of pictures now. I'm going to be out several thousand, but much of it is on things that are not her fault, like the termites. I'll come up short a few hundred on the things that she did cause, but that's okay. She's a single woman, had to move because her job was downsized, and I don't want to give her any more trouble than she already has. In the future, the lease will include a clause that says my agent will come by every two months to change the a/c filter (she didn't do that, either) and of course that agent will be my handyman friend who is doing the work there now, and he'll keep me informed of the condition of things. Things will work out, this too shall pass. --Romeena

Warren, we moved out of our old neighborhood over a year ago and my son had a real rough time for awhile, too. He was 9 at the time and had never lived anywhere else. I have to confess that I more or less told him that I am sorry but he was just going to have to get used to it and make new friends. It was hard for him at first but he understood that sometimes in life we have to make sacrifices in order to have what we want. He grew up alot over the last year and has made 2 wonderful friends who are much nicer to him the ones he had before in our neighborhood (where he was bullied alot). So, while it is hard now, your little friend will adapt and make new friends...this could be a good learning experience for him.

Au20, Cat on A Hot Tin Roof seemed pretty good and I would like to see it again but to tell you the truth, when I watched Paul Newman in it I wanted to eat him with a spoon, and that's just not Christian. I think I will skip it.

Hey to Millie, Spot and MDC...are you sleeping on the porch in a wet sheet, yet??...and hey to anyone else I may have missed.

I think the Count is hovering around here tonight, playing tricks on me. Anyway, I think the bold is turned off now, and I apologize for chewing the same old cabbage twice up there. I didn't realize you got that part, because I didn't. Oh, I'm so confused! I'm going to bed for sure this time.

I only came back to tell Me-They that his pictures are now in the album. What a lovely family, and Me-They is just as handsome as I thought he'd be. Mrs. Me-They is lovely, and those kids are adorable! --Romeena

Hey to Floyd, SPOT, Irishter,Deputy Ferguson, Romeena, Boo, Possum and everyone else. We had a bad storm yesterday evening. I got caught out in it and was pretty scared. I was walking to my car and the heavens opened up, lightening and thunder and rain all around. Of course, I am low to the ground (5ft tall),not like the giraffes which are selfish. so I guess I was pretty safe. It has been hot here so we are at risk for storms pretty much on a daily basis. June 22, 2006 - Msg 40229: Good morning everyone! Hey to all on the porch this fine, if sweltering hot, day.

ROMEENA: Thanks for posting the pictures and your very kind words. Thanks for your, too, BOO. Don't let the pose fool you, LUCY, the Mrs. is very much preggers and ready to pop. BUCKEYE: Only twenty-five days to go until baby-day unless she decides to be an early bird. If was a betting man, I'd lay odds that we have about two more weeks.

DWF: Of the episodes you mentioned, I most enjoy "The Fun Girls." I laugh out loud every time I hear Barney, at the end after all the troubles teh fun girls cause, say, "Well, Andy, it is Saturday night and they are good dancers." The look Andy gives hime is priceless.

MAUDE: Keep on the lookout for selfish giraffes.

Nice looking family, M-T. Looks like you all had fun on your vacation.

Lucy, I've been feeling pretty good - just dealing with the heat, but the heat's not been as bad here as it has for some - so I'm surviving. One interesting thing, though, is that my little one has had the hiccups all but one day of the last month, sometimes as many as 4 times a day. Wonder what causes that? : ) 26 days and counting

Sorry to hear about Linda, Boo. Such a sad situation. Prayers for the family.

Tom - you take care of yourself, you hear. This place wouldn't be the same without you.

Prayers for everyone.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40235: Homemaker, we talked about Jesus' resurrection in VBS yesterday! I can't remember Bobby Goldsboro songs for some reason. As far as what to drink in the am, coffee for me.

Me-They, I hope you are right about your wife. I had both of my children early and it was much easier because they only weighed 6 lbs. I had an epidural and didn't even know it when they were born. Doc had to tell me, "Ok, you can stop pushing now, he/she is out."....now THAT'S the way to do it! Having them was a breeze. I remember getting up afterward and changing the sheets on my own bed. Of course, it hasn't been a breeze raising them, that's for sure.

Hey MAVIS, aren't you blessed? Sounds like you are having a good week with the boys.

Irishter, you must have missed RO's post yesterday. She gave you her email address to send your pictures to or to get her mailing address. It is Romeenaatairmaildotnet

Warren, I like the fungirl episode.

Thanks for the encouragment, Buckeye.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40239: Hey, AFD, all our kids (including this one) were crazy with hiccups before they were born. The Mrs. was just talking about it last night, in fact. And our daughter, Nora, had the hiccups almost every day until she was a year old. I don't know what causes it either, BOO, but I know it's not the Morrison Sisters' recipe.

Glad to hear that you are dealing with the heat okay. The Mrs. is feeling it, too. Also, yesterday (the morning after her second night in a row) her legs and feet were pretty swollen. She's pretty bitterweat about being done with the pregnancy part, even though of course we are looking forward to welcoming our new daughter. We always figured that three would be it and so she's dealing with the thought that this is the last time. Thank God, she has always had very pleasant pregancy experiences. Still, three may have been our plan, but you never know how things will eventually turn out. We need to stay open to His plan.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40240: Morning, honeys and dears. I'm finally up, slept very late, probably because I hadn't slept in about 36 hours. I was a zombie, and sure do feel better now. To wake me up - TEA! Absolutely, a big glass of iced tea, plenty of ice. I love OJ, but raises my blood sugar too much - diabetic, you know. Never have cared for coffee. I like coffee flavor in things, like ice cream, but don't like to just drink coffee, unless it's flavored up with all those wonderful creamers, which also raise my blood sugar. So, plain tea and lots of ice for me. I do experiment with fancy teas, though.

All babies have hiccups, before and after birth. It's always a source of amusement to me when a new parent calls the desk, all in a panic, "Something's wrong with the baby, I think he's choking!" We go quickly to the room (baby really could be choking) but about 99.9% of the time, they have hiccups. Then the parents want us to do do something to stop them! It's hilarious.

Irishter, look for an email from me. Mavis, I got your pictures, will reduce them and get them in the album, probably today. They came through enormous, too big to even see on my screen without scrolling through, but no problem. I can reduce them easily, and then will be able to see them. Right now, they're too big to tell much about them.

Well, guess I'll go have some breakfast/lunch - probably the leftover barbecue from last night's visit to Spring Creek. I often have leftovers for breakfast. Never been a picky eater.

Warren, you asked a hard question! All four of those eps are wonderful. Each has at least one scene that is particularly appealing, but if I had to choose, I guess it would be "The Fun Girls." Sure is a tough choice, though, they're all so funny.

Have a wonderful day, everyone. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40241: Hey to the porch....Such a hot day! Just thought I'd check in before I take the kids to the pool. Last night I went out to get the dogs' dishes, and they had dug a new hole, which I stepped in and sprained my ankle. Drats! What a pain!
Me-They, my hours are pretty flexible. I usually work from about 9;30 til 2, and then go in for an hour or so at dinner whenever I feel like it. It's a pretty turn-key operation, very rare in the restaurant business. I have really good managers and employees, so that's a blessing.
Well, let me hobble off to the pool....See y'all in a bit......

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40242: Hey guys, well, we just put an offer in on a house in the new/old town. I caved, and we decided to try for my wife's first choice of houses, a big old victorian style house that has been updated. I told her it reminds me of that movie "The Money Pit", because I think that house is what all of our money is going to go into if we get it. I mean, I like the house. I like big houses, I just don't know if it is realistic financially. Especially when she wants to go to Hawaii for two weeks in January. Oy!
Anyway, we are still waiting for an inspection to be scheduled on our house here.

Spot, that lunch sounds good! Perfect lunch for a hot summer!

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40243: Hey Ro, maybe if you try to scare the babies when the parents want you to stop the hiccuping, they'll stop demanding that you do something about that. ;) I'm kidding, of course, but it is a funny picture to think of you making a scary face and yelling "BOO!" at their little bundles of joy. :)

-Sterling Holobyte

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40244: That is a funny idea, STERLING. Have you ever seen the movie, "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy? Check it out if you can. As someone who owns an old, very old, fixer-upper, I can tell you that there is something really special about an old home. They have character and are (usually) one of a kind. They feel comfortable and "lived in." That said, yes, they can be financiallty trying. For us, it came down to a new house with big mortgage, or older home with smaller mortgage but bigger upkeep/renovation costs. One good thing about the latter is that in most cases (except for things like dying septic systems and holes in roofs), renovations, and its costs, can be timed to your liking; mortgage payments are due like clockwork, come what may. We usually take on smaller projects as convenient and larger ones when the last one gets paid for. Projects can be aggravating but getting things accomplished is rewarding. It usually pays off, too; our house is worth much more today than it was when we bought it (even discounting a strong housing market). So, I guess you have to ask if you and your family feel it's worth it. Different strokes and all.

When you do go to buy, watch for cracks in kitchen ceilings, and boys floating boats in basements.

Can I go to Hawaii with you? Book-em, Sterling!

M-T

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40245: How about an older home with a bigger mortgage?. This one is one of the more expensive ones that we looked at. And as I've said, it has already been updated and modernized, so (I feel) some of that "old-world charm" is not there anymore, but that's what my wife likes about it. It's a big, old house, but it has a modern kitchen and everything(which, confidentially, I don't know why she cares about that. I do all the cooking.;))

Btw Me-They, heck, you can take my place in Hawaii! I'd let you. I'm not real keen on going, for some reason.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40248: Hi, all. Mavis, and Irishter, check the album. Your pictures are there. Mavis, you will note that you now are a sub-album, like Spot. My loosely-interpreted rule of thumb is when there are enough photos from one porchster to fill a page, I make a sub-album. Keeps the main album from getting too huge.
If the rest of you will get your pictures to me, I'd be delighted to get them in the album. I think it's kinda fun to be able to see what our friends look like. However I liked Goober the whole series but more in the day's of

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40286: Thanks for the sympathy, MDC! It was the most difficult night of all. I had a little girl in my class you was probably the worst behaved child I have ever seen (and that is saying alot). I was at a complete loss. I found out later that she had been so hard to deal with (at age 6) that she had to be transferred to another school because she was assaulting other children so often and her father would only get mad at the teachers when they called him. That makes me so mad! The child was absolutely impossible to deal with. I still have a headache from the ordeal (literally). Next year I think I will consider working in the kitchen or something! Why is it that so many children have zero respect for authority these days? When we were kids, you did what you were told or there was h*** to pay. I just cannot get used to having children look in my face when I am telling them something and then just do the opposite. Have mercy!...OK, I feel a bit better after venting (I am trying to "deal" without having to hit the squeezins....haha).

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Irishter. How many children do you have? Such a lovely family, you are very blessed.

Oh, I forgot to look at Mavis' pictures when I was over there. Have to remember to do that...

Well, I am tuckered and spent so I think I will find something to take for this headache and hit the hay. Later friends,

Boo

ps-glad to see ya Mrs. Wiley...been missing you!

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40287: Oh, and you too Charlotte!

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40288: I've got to go to bed all. I have to be at work at 8am in the morning. It is amazing some of the crazy cases that I come upon. Yesterday, this man in his 60's tryed to blame his DWI on his cat. No kidding. There are some real"NUTS" out there as Barn would say. Goodnight all, and see you in the morning/Afternoon. Before I hit the sack, anyone need special prayers??? Answer quick, I've gotta go to bed(Miss's Orders!!!LOL!!!) Barnwannabe.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40289: Mavis, loved the graduation pics. I'm telling you, that boy of yours looks like one sweet kid. Good to see Pat looking so well.

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40295: I'm a judge. I shouldn't have said that, cause you know how I am, but I find it hard not to tell ya'll. That's why I couldn't visit here earlier today, My computer in my chambers wouldn't let me get on the internet. They're supposed to have it fixed tomorrow. My assistant's internet was down, too. June 22, 2006 - Msg 40300: Hey Mil....SPOT

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40301: Evenin' Porch,
BWB- We need prayers for hubby's children being allowed to come to visit this summer. Thank you! That's insane about the cat. There are some "nuts" in this world. I see them everyday in Atlanta traffic!
Boo- You have just such a wonderfuly big heart. God really gave you some extras in the caring dept. You're right that many children do not have respect for authority. Its funny you say that because Bryson asked me today who my bosses are and I listed some and asked him who has to respect. He said everyone over my height, weight, and age. I thought, well, good job son. My stepchildren have little respect for anyone, including their parents, so that's why I'm always a little hesitant for them to come. By the time they leave most people remark how much they've changed in that aspect.
Charlotte- Its nice of you to pop in. I agree its hard to say hello to everyone when you may forget some names.
Rev- Thanks for checking in. I was thinking of you the other day. That's the nice thing about the porch. You think of them often.
Spot- Did you hear last night about how quite a bit of Sandy Springs lost power. We did for about 3 hours. A neighbor said its because a car hit a power line. Also, is Cobb on the water restriction list? I know Fulton and I think Cherokee are. Our grass is brown and crunchy.
Warren- Out of the list you gave my favorite is Bringing up Opie. I like the early ones dealing with Opie. I guess its because my son is 8 and I can identify with him.
Millie- Its wonderful that you have such a great, supportive staff and family. How are you feeling?
Hey to MDC, Buckeye, Mrs. Wiley, Romeena, Mavis, Irishter, M-T, AFD, Goober, Tom, and all.
Hubby's in Madison, WI and says he loves it. He said there's a huge lake there and its very clean. We're still debating the city v. country when purchasing our home. The lot we're considering is in a nice, huge subdivision. I don't know if that's what I want for Bryson and stepchildren. Hubby and I were both raised in the country and it was wonderful, but hubby wants more. He wants pools, playgrounds, tennis courts and such. I'm trying to give it to the Lord, but hubby hasn't yet. I don't know if we'll get an answer if we're not both giving the situation to God, what do you think?
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40310: I think I'm going to try and get some sleep. Its always hard when I'm by myself. Bryson's staying the night with a friend and so I'm all by myself (lower lip pouting). Sometimes its weird to think that I've never lived by myself and now my sleeping is completely co-dependent! Talk to y'all later!
Blessings,
lucy

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40311: 'night, Lucy!
Mil

June 22, 2006 - Msg 40312: Spot, you dear ol' doggie - go back and ready the last few posts. BWB explains things - he is a judge! You know, chambers, judge, etc. Think "Night Court". Jail? LOL - Spot, you're priceless.

By the way, BWB, it makes more sense to us now, you being so reluctant to reveal personal information and all. Your job is one that would require you to keep a rather low profile.

Well, guess I'll turn in. It's late, and gotta get up early in the morning and head back over to the rent house to meet the termite man. Oh, mercy. I'll be glad when that house is back in shape and rented again.
