April 18, 2006 - Msg 37032: My goodness, y'all! I missed a day or two and the porch has been hostin' lots of friends. We had the walls painted and carpet put down in our apartment, so we've spent the last 2 days moving our furniture in and out. The thing is we could've moved. I told Mr. Lucy that I didn't want to move until we can afford a house, so we're staying another year, sad. Hopefully, we'll get a house next year. Doesn't money grow on trees?
Asa & Me-They- Yeah, the Frontier House on pbs is what I'm speaking about. I watched it when it came out in 2001 and found it inspiring. It re-aired part of it this weekend and I realized how spoiled I am. Its a real eye opener going from 2001-1800's. PBS is doing Texas Ranch which is 1870's in May.
Goober- Congratulations to you and Mrs. Goober. I'll be praying that everything works out fine for you, Me-They's wife, and AFD.
Boo- My husband really likes Casting Crowns and Jeremy Camp. I prefer "Old Timey" music including hymns. In many ways we are polar opposites!
Big Maude- Thank the Lord I'm allergic to seafood! I'll take Golden Corral please.
Fred- Its nice to hear from you. Are you home for awhile? My grandfather is a semi-retired truck driver. He worked with Overnite for like 30+ years and now drives locally in Louisville.
Rev- Prayers for your wife. Keep us up to date on her health. I like Buckeye's comment on sometimes it takes a scare to wake us up on our feelings for eachother and to take care of ourselves.
The weather is beautiful here, although we're supposed to get a touch of rain tomorrow. I hope you get rain soon, Boo.
My fingers hurt from lifting so I think I'm done for tonight. Goodnight my friends!
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy Matthews

OK Lucy, I will be looking forward to the new PBS special. I really enjoyed Frontier House. It was sad to see the one couple divorce though. My wife is allergic to seafood also. Not me. I love the stuff. Lobster, crab legs, Halibut. Good stuff. I let the snails go on by though.:)
Floyd posted over at Miss Crumps that Paramount is willing to make good on the Season 4 release that was missing laugh tracks. So go on over there and see what you need to do to get them replaced if it's been bothering you. I think thats pretty good of Paramount to do this.
Well off to work for me. The bank won't guard itself.

I want to thank you all so much for your prayers concerning Mrs. Rev. She's doing alot better...still weak but alot better. She's always picking at me for visiting the porch but when I showed her the concerns for her posted on the porch, it brought a tear to her eye.

Having some rain here in SC today...we need it.

Be back later...Have a great day and let someone see JESUS in you today!
-REV.

April 19, 2006 - Msg 37055: Drat! REV: If I had known you were making a Subway run, I would have asked you to pick me up a veggie delight on wheat, hold the mayo (we all gotta eat healthy sometime). Instead, I had egg salad (again). With all the dyed eggs at home, that's in my future for the foreseable future. There are three things my lovely wife will not eat: peanut butter, bananas, and eggs. So, it's up to me to make sure that Saturdays half hour of Easter fun does not go to waste.

On the upside, my wife and daughter suprised me with a bag full of homemade buttercream chocolate eggs. They are delicious, and I've eaten an embarrasing number of them since Sunday. You have to space them out, though, because by the end of each one your teeth feel like they are going to fall out. I had one after lunch. I definitely won't be needing my Mr. Cookie Bar this afternoon; my blood sugar level will probably not recover until sometime this evening (when I'll have another!).

We have been having some lovely weather here the last several days--sunny and 70 degrees. I hope those of you that have been suffering with more miserable stuff have seen the other end of it today. It is very dry here, though. Some counties have already issued voluntary water conservation alerts. Still, we're just a few inches down and nothing like MDC's area is going through.

AFD: Check in and let us know how you are doing. My Mrs. is getting bigger, but hasn't had any problems yet (swollen feet, etc.).

Well, back to the salt mines...

Been a busy day. Went early to have my bi-yearly lab work done and now I am ready to konk out. Last night was one of those nights. First Sean was unable to sleep, then Erin woke me up at 2am screaming. She had thrown up in her bed and wanted to get in bed with us. I let her because I was so tired and then she moved around so much I couldn't sleep. I finally just got up at 4:30 and have been up since. Hope I can turn in early tonight but I doubt it. I'll try to stop by later.

HM, you are right. Keith Green was awesome. A friend of mine lent me a DVD of his biography that I really enjoyed. It had current interviews with his wife and kids and his good friend Randy Stonehill.

April 20, 2006 - Msg 37102: Howdy, all. Finally got my DSL back, the storms had knocked it out in some areas, including my end of the porch. Gotta hand it to Comcast, though, they were on it and got it fixed pretty quick. Pleasant to deal with on the phone, too - very professional, but with a friendly note as well.

I have my little visitor - Bentley, my son and DIL's pup. He's a soft-coated Wheaten terrier, cute as a bug. He's the one that developed Parvo just about four days after they got him home, almost died, cost nearly $1,000 to fix him, but the breeder covered it, as he should have. It's a small miracle that he survived, but he did and is full of energy today. The Plum, of course, is insulted that he's here, keeps shooting me those "Mom, how could you?" looks. Bentley, on the other hand, thinks I'm great and is velcroed to my ankle. This isn't helping the Plum's attitude a whole lot. Too funny!

Mavis, bless your little heart. I know you must be hurting a lot. I got to keep my mom until she was 80, so I can't really identify with your feelings specifically, but my children could. Their dad was only 58 when we lost him, and it was and still is, very hard. Buckeye is right, though. Keep her alive in your heart, and she will always be here. You'll see her in the little things, you'll even see her in yourself at times. I look at my sons and see their father all the time. They're fine men, just as he was. For your mom, you could make it an annual thing to do something in her name. Volunteer a day at an animal shelter. Send a small monetary gift to her favorite charity, or maybe to a bird sanctuary that needs funds - you'll think of something. And always remember - thanks to God and what He did for us - you will see her again.

Well, gotta go feed the pup. He still eats three times a day, trying to put a little more weight on him after his illness. For my own dinner, I've got some locally-grown baby yellow squash - gonna slice and saute them in a little butter with some onion, then grate in some cheddar cheese. Yum! Got a cold leftover pork chop, too, and that pretty much makes a meal. I like cold pork chops.

Well, have a great afternoon, everyone. Leave that hammock free, if you will. I may come back by and indulge in a little nap. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

April 20, 2006 - Msg 37103: Afternoon Porch,
It has been a bit quiet today. I'm still moving stuff, but I'm runnin' low on energy. Its warm and muggy here in Atlanta. I took my son to the park and w/in 30 min he was sweatin' like a stuffed pig.
Romeena- You take it easy
Boo- I hope Sean's appointment goes well. Safe travelling. Unfortunately we travel in a major city everyday.
Me-They- My son and I could entirely exist on Chick-fil-A! I can't eat anything but baby food right now (Dr. appt Monday-I hate Dr's so why did I marry one, ha?), but I have considered buying nuggets and fries and putting them in the food processor!
Buckeye- I think its neat that the waitress won the money. Its like that awfuly Nicholas Cage movie where he gives the waitress a huge tip.
Mavis- I'm sorry you're blue. Get a tub of rocky road and a good movie and veg. Then get to work, that helps me. Have you seen the movie Elizabethtown (filmed in Ky, wonder why I love it), but its about a man, played by Orlando Bloom, who's father dies and how he deals with it.
Big Maude- I saw on the news that TN getting pounded with rain. You take care!
Spot & Rev- The Braves did a little better the other night.
Homemaker- Happy Birthday to your Father. May we all live to 83+ years.
I'd better get back to work. I just have to unpack Bryson's room. I tell ya I'm ready to put all of the toys in a bag for Goodwill! AGH!
Anyhay, y'all have a good rest of the afternoon.
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy M.

Great poem Tom, thanks. Hope you are well
Mavis, my thoughts and prayers to you this day. God bless you.
Luci- thanks for the Minnie Pearl info, and to HM and others too. She was a nice lady. "How-DEEE"
Asa, I guess i never realized about the ep you mentioned. I was thinking of the very FIRST episode where, at the end, andy and aunt bee go to an old Chevy pickup, which one would assume was andy's, but it is never seen again. All other eps, to my knowledge, say in the closing credits "Autos furnished by the Ford Motor Co."
Buckeye, frogman hopped on the snail this morning. Hope it arrives before we see each other at the pearly gates. (Did ya all know that Revelation actually mentions a pearly entrance!?)
Spot- have fun! If ya catch old sam be sure to throw him back!
Boo- will be praying for you and Sean.
Have a good day-- pry tonight at our time!

April 20, 2006 - Msg 37107: Mavis - in honor of my dad's birthday (what do you get a man who is 83) I sent a care package to a soldier in Afghanistan. I told my dad and he thought it was great. I like Ro's suggestions - and I will probably continue to do something like that. I prayed for you this morning - hope your day was better.

It was a trying day at the school I work at - one of our good girls was influenced by one of the bad girls - anyway, there was a drug exchange on school grounds and they are both expelled. They were a little nicer to the girl who had never been in trouble - she will get to come back in the fall and they did not take her credit from her. But the other girl has a rap sheet a mile long and she is expelled at least until January and maybe for the whole year. I think she may end up in a juvenile facility. It is not like we did not try to help her but she was very manipulative of all those around her. Very sad!

April 20, 2006 - Msg 37108: Evening porch family, Hope all are well this evening. Glad the week is winding down, just 1/2 a day tomorrow and then my work week is over.
It is raining on my end of the porch.. and is supposed to rain all week end. Guess we won't be doing much outdoors. Rommena, Hope to get my pictures in the postal mail this week end. Homemaker, dealing with the issues as you described are very difficult and very sad. Sometimes, no matter what you do, kids make choices and don't even think about the consequences. I think it is
because the frontal part of our brains which is where the reasoning and logic happens does not fully develop until we are around 20. Kids have so much to deal with and different influences. Sometimes, no matter what we do, they still make
poor choices and unfortunatly sometimes there is no way to stop them. Maybe the girl who has never been in trouble has learned a valuable lesson from this and can go in the other direction. Will keep you in my thoughts. Adolescence is hard! SPOT: What is for supper, I am starving. Thanks for the poem, Tom. Guess I missed the request for gum wrappers, Tom. What do you do with them? I will be happy to collect and send them to you.. my 11 year old loves gum and we always have wrappers. Let me know what kind of wrappers and where to send them. You guys have a good evening and I will try to check in before bedtime. I have housework to do.. Has anybody seen Malcolm Merriwether. I need him for a few days. Big Maude

Ro I love your suggestions, I did volunteer Tues for the Organ Donation Assoc. here, I do that in honor of Mom everytime I volunteer. homemaker what a great idea that was sending that package! I like that suggestion too. I thank you all for your thoughts & prayers, this place is such a wonderful part of my life! Tom got you a bunch of gum wrappers today, but I'm sending them with the gum still in them, I can't chew gum, sticks to my dentures. Maybe you or Gizzmo can have a bubble blowing contest. haha

Please pray for my mama. She had oral cancer 21 yrs ago and last week she had a little cist removed from her cheek ( same area as before ) and it came back Cancer. She will have to have more of her cheek taken and there isn't much there. Last time they had to take a large hunk from inside so she has a very thin cheek on that side. We are hoping that it isn't too large and they can get it the dirst time but we'll see. She will go into surgery as soon as they can fit it in.

April 21, 2006 - Msg 37136: Porch Why is bold bad? Is it intrinsic to computer softwear or is it an eiiquette issue like Ernest T had ? I don't know where to find bold(mac/safari) , maybe it is better to be ig-nor-ant on this and just stick to throwing rocks. I also heard someone say too many exclamations is bad?
Marty from Mountain Top

April 21, 2006 - Msg 37137: Marty, it's my understanding that bold is not generally used except for emphasis for several reasons. Partly, in computer etiquette it's considered shouting, much like all caps. Also, I think it takes up a lot of byte space and therefore isn't a good thing. I'm sure Floyd could explain it much better than I have. As for the multiple exclamation points, or any other repetitive thing, Floyd put in some blocks against such as that because of some interlopers who were coming in and trying to trash the porch. He has blocked certain words, phrases and combinations of letters, and repetitions as well so they can't fill the page with mindless stuff. Floyd is a treashuh, and his education was worth every penny! We just couldn't get along without him, keeping the porch clean and in good repair.
Sugarplum says 10-4! --Romeena

April 21, 2006 - Msg 37138: Romeena-thanks for explaining that- the stuff Floyd does must take a lot more know how than gettin the sideburns even. There is a "nod" to the jail in the Emporium, but, it, too, is a poor attempt. Is it because it cannot generate sufficient income? ...cannot sell a product? April 21, 2006 - Msg 37145: i have been to mt airy and I agree that it is a bit of a disapointment not to see a courthouse that resembles the original. i would think they would be able to generate revenue by renting it out during mayberry days or even just charging folks to take photos of themselves in the cells and such. Floyds Barber shop i would imagine makes a killing from tourists alone wanting to get a haircut there. I would love to scan the copy of North Carolina Business that featured a photo of Kyle getting a haircut at Floyds. We were thrilled! Bought copies for everyone in the family.......we were so proud. Perhaps I will find the magazine and scan it and send it to RO and she can add it to the photos page. I only wish we had Kyle in a striped shirt, and jeans, instead of a Bugs Bunny tshirt...but the resemblance must have been enough cause the photo made it into the magazine. I will tell you all the story some time. Russell Hyatt (floyd) purposely waited to cut Kyles hair cause he had a photographer coming back to take some photos and he thought Kyle would be just what they were looking for. He even told us, "stick around and I think we may have a chance to get your boy in a magazine." The photographer was saying the whole time he was shooting, "this is just what my editors are looking for." I will definately dig that out this week and scan it and send it to Ro. Gosh I miss the boy he was then. He was four, almost five then...and had all the enthusiasm of children that age.....

Lord, how I do ramble on!
