January 16, 2006 - Msg 32899: Hmmm. Opie a Boy Scout? I know he was in some sort of outdoors program, remember the ep where Andy thought he had the whole evening to himself, and Goober came over to keep him company? It ended up with Andy eating three spaghetti suppers! Anyway, that's where Opie was, on a camp-out, but I can't remember whether they actually said it was the Boy Scouts or not. Seems to me he was wearing some sort of uniform...

Nausea is about gone, dizziness much less severe, but I still don't want to make any sudden moves. My dad's family has a history of Meniere's syndrome, sure hope I'm not headed down that road! Wretched condition!

Well, back to my big easy chair. Still can't lie down, the room turns upside down when I try that. I may end up sleeping in that chair! Oh, well, it won't be the first time.

Have a good evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

P.S. Good grief - I sound worse than Emma!

January 16, 2006 - Msg 32903: Just read the archives, Ro ain't it funny how just a picture can bring back a flood of memories? Luckily, my mother didn't mind us taking pictures of her & I have a ton of them. One of my favorites is of her kissing one of her birds she hand-fed, that little bird is just planting one on Mom's lips & Mom just smiling as big as can be. Still makes me cry when I see it, but it's not as painful a cry as it was, my mother LOVED her birds. I have it on my PC I will try to get it out to you soon. I do miss her dearly. Off to bed for real this time.

January 16, 2006 - Msg 32905: Wow,Me-They, I wish I could get Sean's uniforms at Target or kmart. One pair of his pants alone costs 30.00, maybe more if I buy the Husky size. They tried to have a sale of used uniform items but never received enough to go to the trouble. Shoot!

Hope you are back to normal, Ro. Last year I had a short episode of dizziness off and on for about a week and it was horrible. Very scary feeling to me. My poor mother suffers with it everyday since her stroke 6 years ago but she can lay down and doesn't have the nausea.

What about that camping trip that Andy, Barney, and Gomer took the boys on? Were the kids boy scouts? My little Erin likes to hear the Golden arm story from that episode. Yesterday that little toot (Erin) stuck her head in my bedroom door and said, "I hate you mom." Then she said, "Does that make you mad?" I said, "Not really, why?". She replied, "I guess I have to think of something else because I want you to get mad at me so I can go live with my Aunt Suzie". Can you believe that from a 4 year old?! Its always something with her. I shudder to think what adolescence will be like.

Wasn't it awful about those 2 teens beating those homeless men with baseball bats? I heard one of the men died. What on earth would cause them to do such a thing? The neighbors said they seemed like normal, well-behaved kids.

MDC, I just watched Shelly Winters in a movie yesterday with Elizabeth Taylor and I think his name was Montgomery Clift? Shelly ends up falling off a boat and drowning. Ring a bell with anyone? I would like to know the name of it.

Asa, I have been meaning to ask you if you are getting along any better with the Parakeet.

Think I will go to bed a bit early tonight.

January 16, 2006 - Msg 32907: Boo, the movie you're talking about was A Place in the Sun. Good movie, I always wished Shelley's character had been a bit less whiney, and Clift's character had had a little, well, character! Elizabeth Taylor was so beautiful, as always.

Well, I'm getting tired of that chair, guess I'll see if I can lie down without getting so dizzy. I'm okay as long as I move slowly and stay relatively upright. Old age ain't for sissies.

Homemaker - you've got some nice looking "kids", all of 'em! ; )

Ro, my mother has been experiencing some vertigo and nausea over the last few weeks and Dr says she has a viral inner ear infection. She takes meclazine (sp?) to help with the dizziness, but the infection has to run its course.

Boo, my mother had a stroke almost 4 years ago and has not suffered dizziness (until this infection). I'm sure it's tough on you all, especially your mother. BTW - is the name of the movie you're thinking of "A Place in the Sun"?

Welcome back, Me-They! Hope you had a nice weekend.

Hey thanks for coming up with the name of the movie I was looking for.

Better go get something productive done. I have alot to do today. Yesterday Sean was playing in a gardening wagon at his friend's and he got a puncture wound from the wagon (pretty rusty and dirty) so I am trying to decide if I need to get him a Tet@nus booster. As I have said before, I am on the committe for the women's retreat this year and theye appointed me to be in charge of fun activities and games. We will have the usual hayride and bonfire with smores and I will attempt to play the guitar and lead some songs and we will have other get-togethers. One thing we like to do is play Red Rover...it's hilarious with grown, out-of-shape women (I'm also considering Dodge Ball this year, haha!). Anyway, one evening we will do Karaoke (did I spell that right?) and I was thinking of playing Truth or Dare with them. Any of you girls remember that one when we were young? Of course we would have to play nice at a church retreat but I could use some help coming up with questions and consequences. For instance, one question might be..."Describe your first kiss" or, "Describe a time that you took something that didn't belong to you." A consequence for declining to answer a question might be something like, standing outside alone and doing and singing the chicken dance. Any suggestions? I need help! I am also interested in any ideas for fun games we could play.

And thanks for the concerns for dizzy old me. Actually, I'm feeling fine today, got a good night's sleep and woke up feeling much better. No dizziness. I'm thinking you all are correct with the viral ear thing. I had a little low-grade fever last week, haven't really been sick but just not 100%, then that dizziness hit yesterday. I got some meclizine from my pharmacy (would you believe they deliver?) and it helped a lot.

Had planned to take down all the lighted yard deer out back, and clean out and organize the garage today. Even had my handyman and good friend scheduled, but it was COLD here today! Forty degrees and north wind blowing hard. My garage faces north, so not a good situation. Couldn't catch Ted, so he arrived, looking as cold as I was. When I asked if he had an indoor job he could do somewhere today and do the garage tomorrow (expected to be in the 70's) he grinned and said that sounded fine to him! Then he proceeded to sit in the kitchen and talk for a couple of hours. He's a fine man, and his wife has become a good friend to me, too. They have a new grandbaby, and he wanted to talk about him, so we had a good conversation. So, he'll be back tomorrow, and all my Christmas stuff will go away. I'm sitting here now, enjoying my pretty deer for the last time until next Christmas.

Seafood? Did someone say seafood? And crab legs? Mercy, I can eat a mess o' crab legs! With lemon butter, yum! If lobster is a 10 (and it is) then crab legs are an 8, and a sight cheaper, if you know where to go, and when. Naturally, I do!

Well, gotta run. The Plum is standing here looking at me, as if to say "Where's my supper, mom?" Nothing spoiled about her.

I usually like my seafood with alfredo and noodles. I could just about live on crab alfredo from Red Lobster. Does anybody have a "Joe's Crab Shack" in their neck of the woods? I visited one in Tulsa and boy is it good! I had a seafood alfredo (with scallops, lobster and crawfish) and it was delish.

Boo, I know what you mean about being unable to pull your black Lab anywhere. They're amazing! They just plant their big old hineys and refuse to budge, and it would take a tow truck to move them. I think that's a trait of Labs. My daughter's yellow Lab loves to get in cars (probably how she ended up in the pound, where my daughter rescued her from death row), so you don't dare leave a car door open even for a second if she's outside. She got in my car one day, and plunked herself down right in the middle of the back seat, and refused to get out. My daughter pulled while I pushed, and we could not move her. She weighs about a hundred pounds, and I know the two of us together could move a hundred-pound object, but we couldn't move that dog. It was like she was rooted. It was not until a male neighbor came over and helped pull that we were able to dislodge her, and then it wasn't easy. No growling or threatening from her, just a steadfast refusal to move. Worse than a donkey! Still, ya gotta love her!

Well, Ted will be here momentarily, so I'd better go. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

I have never owned a dog as big as her and most of the time it is great BUT, like you said, she is hard to budge. She hates riding in the car and the last time I had to take her to the vet I almost killed myself getting her up into the Suburban. She planted herself and actually got her body as close to the ground as she could. I had to lift her and drag as she pulled against me. It was the first time in my life I thought I might actually be having a heart attack! Next time I took her somewhere I made sure Bruce was there to put her in the car. She has always been an outside dog and just hates being inside of anything except her dogloo. She does go inside of one of my neighbor's houses that has a couple of large dogs in her house, though. I guess she can't resist spending time with her dog buddies.

SPOT, I don't have the TAGS trivia game but I would like to get it someday. By the way, are you on a new health kick or have you always worked out?

I have no clue about the answer to #13!

Morning Porch,

Well, we could see the grass here for about an hour and a half this morning. It was nice seeing all that greenery. Oh well, the weathers been kind to us temps in the 50's most the week but we kept our snow.

Been some heavy topics discussed the last week or so. The old porch started to look like "This Week with David Brinkley." (I miss him) Great advice dispense.

My favorite TAGS episode is on tomorrow, "Dogs, dogs, dogs." Every time one of you quote that episode I laugh. My girls are gonna watch it with me. They haven't seen that one. They know I love the show and my oldest likes it also. But, my youngest has a hard time with it being in black and white. She says she was born in a "color world." How do you argue with that?

Ro- #13, something to do with pickles?

Have a great day,
auh2o

Still waiting on
#11 Andy's 5th grade crush (she was in 5A if that gives you all a hint)
#11a Cost of spark plugs in "Man in a Hurry".

We have a Longhorns but I've never been, and we just had a Texas Roadhouse open up too. It's been really busy so we haven't been there either.

IHOP sure was tasty - thanks spot!

We'd take your rain in a heartbeat, spot. SW Missouri has seen little rain over the last year -we ended up 9 inches below normal. But we are fortunate to have had more that those in OK, TX, AZ, and NM.

Well, have a good day all!

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32973: Just wanted to stop by for a sec and say "hi" to you folks. December was a really really bad month for me, and I'm glad it's over. Except for celebrating the birth of Christ, I don't guess it will ever be the same again.

Ro....I sure would love to know how to access your web site...from what I can tell, you have one, yes? Bulbsnatcher

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32974: Bulbsnatcher I'm right there with you on the December thing, it won't ever be the same again. Glad to see you on here! Ro gonna get you some pics of me & Jake today. Boo Jake & Pat are doing great! Jake is a senior this year & Pat is back to work. Prayers do work, he's proof of that. Off to take a nap, cold, snowy & windy here on my porch today.

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32975: My dear dear Mavis.....so good to see ya. I'll sit and rock with ya a spell....just keep all those precious critters out of the way of the rocker. I never thought rockers and furkids went together too well, unless they're firmly planted on my lap. My favorite place for them to be anyway. Bulbsnatcher

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32976: Good afternoon, everyone. Off-line all day yesterday; they're installing bigger wires.

Romeena: Hope that you're feeling better today. Boo: To quote Andy, "Younguns, younguns, young-uns!" Bulbsnatcher: I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. Asa & AFD: Haven't seen you over at Miss Crump's lately. Your homework is piling up! You better stop in and bring a note from your mother (or mother figure). Spot: Man, I'm gonna stop reading your posts until AFTER I eat.

You all have a fun game of TAGS Jeopardy going there. I would have chimed in if I knew how much those spark plugs were.

BTW, did anyone see the "Frontline" (PBS) documentary "Country Boys" last Monday through Wednesday? Powerful stuff. I won't take up the Porch explaining the whole thing, but if anyone saw it, they know what I mean. If not, you can check it out on the PBS website under Frontline.

I hope that each of you is able to rejoice and be glad in this day. Take care, all.

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32979: WELL, AS I LIVE AND BREATHE! BULBSNATCHER, I thought you went and joined the Witness Protection Program or something. Where have you been and what happened that made Christmas so bad? Catch me up, Honey.

Hey to all...gotta go take Sean for his Tet@nus shot. The doctor said its been over 5 years since he had one so he needs it again after he put that hole in his finger. FYI: The CDC suggests that kids get a tet@nus booster at age 11 and adults get one every 10 years (and in the event of injury). For those of you who don't like vaccines (can't remember who...is it you Homemaker?), feel free to put in your thoughts on the subject. Bye!

January 18, 2006 - Msg 32981: Hey, Boo.....great to see you. Guess I need to put my spectacles on. I can't yet talk about or even write yet why I had a bad Christmas, but I appreciate you asking. I don't know when I'll be able to do it, but you'd think at my age, I'd be all growed up about some things. Just hurts...hurts....hurts. Tell you what, I couldn't go through this again, and I don't know how people manage it. Anyway, I sure am looking for some happy, cheery sites. I've been to Mavis spot on the web, and it's WONDERFUL! Looking for some more to add to my favorites. Who else out there has a site of their own? I had a little dinky one once, and soon as I can get some time, I'm gonna make a new one. Nothing incredible to put in it, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Bulbsnatcher

Me-they- I saw 2 of those FL eps. Yes it was very good! So proud of the one guy who made a come back. Also, I dont often think of how the other "half" can be told about Jesus, and i guess that was one way for sure.
KY girl- I dont think so, will have to check.
Prayers continue for all. I really do lift up all porchsters as i say my daily prayers on my way to work. You are good folk. And I appreciate all yours for my mom.

I have to retract the statement about having a Longhorns - we have a Lone Star steakhouse here. Don't have any idea how I got that confused! ; )

Good to see you Bulbsnatcher - sorry you had a tough December. Hope January goes much better for ya.

Welcome back Me-They. Forgot to mention earlier that my dad has cousins in Columbia MD (they had also lived in Ellicott City for a while back in the 80's).

Heard about "Country Boys", but totally forgot about watching it. : ( Sorry I missed it.

It hit 55° here today, gonna hit 60's tomorrow.
Heading over to Wendy's to eat supper with spot!
