January 01, 2005 - Msg 26151: 'Morning, dears. For some reason, I haven't been able to post here for about 4 days. The error message kept coming up, saying "Censor Alert". If it was about that moonshining, I haven't been doing that anymore, at least not so you'd notice. The day I was first banned, I had big, important things to post too. But now I've just plumb forgot what they was. Oh, I remember. Welcome to the porch Mr. MacBeevee. And I was going to tell Sterling it's about time you got your Ma electronilized. And Romeena, you said the Plum wanted a chicken receipe. When she eats chicken, does she say "It tastes just like dogfood?" Mrs. Wiley, your comment about slipping across the floors and it's off to the races. Reminded me of the ep where Otis spiked the spring water. Barney told Andy, he took one drink and it was "Happy New Year".
Which reminds me. Happy New Year!
- Hazel

P.S. Asa hasn't been able to post either because of the censor thing, so hopefully he'll be allowed back on too. I wonder if old Mr. Weaver turned him in for something. Or maybe he was caught rolling one of Barneys prisoners again.

January 01, 2005 - Msg 26159: Hey to the Porch. I'm sorry I worried any of you, I have been so busy at work, Christmas holidays are one of the busiest for us puppy groomers & it seems like we would never get all them dogs done. Christmas went ok, it sure was hard without Mom, but we made it through. (if you could call it that, I'm still alive anyway) We went Christmas night & lit some luminaries on Mom's grave, our grandparents & our uncle as well. Then we all went home & cried, but we made it. I sure am glad to see this past year go by, been a bad one for me & mine. Getting ready to really change some things in our store so hopefully things will start looking up soon. Sorry I worried ya'll, please don't make me stay with "Aunt Bea? Bloody Mary!"

January 01, 2005 - Msg 26162: Gotta quick question for you fine folks....as I clean up from Christmas and just everyday clutter (oh I dislike that word so much)...I come across all the beautiful Christmas cards that wonderful people have sent us.. Well, what do you guys do with your cards after Christmas is over?
I used to have a friend who would cut the card in half,so that she had the picture part of it..and would use the back of that for recipe cards.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Alyce

January 01, 2005 - Msg 26163: Alyce, I used to save the fronts of neat cards and then cut them apart and stagger the pieces, gluing them by cutting tabs from the card back, making a 3-D picture in a shoe box. Used wallpaper, fabric, or card scenes for the back wall of the picture. Made and gave several of them but no time anymore so now I just pitch most of them. Seems a waste, doesn't it?
Charlotte Tucker

January 01, 2005 - Msg 26164: Hey, Alyce! You might check with day care centers, nursing homes, and your local ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). I understand they do things with those cards. That's what I've done with mine at times - I think they take the picture part and glue it onto new card stock, to make "new" Christmas cards.

Yep, I hate that "clutter" word, too, and there's plenty of it around here. I'm determined that I'm not taking my Christmas stuff down until I've gone through the closets and found new homes (trash bags?) for whatever wasn't used this year. I always put the in-use stuff back in with the hasn't-been-used-in-years stuff, and I'm just not going to do that this year. I won't actually trash it, as most of it is quite usable, there's just too much. I'll find a suitable recycle place for it all.

Mavis, it's good to see you back on the porch. I know it was hard, but you did make it through. I'm proud of you.

Well, off to bed, if I'm to make it to preaching in the morning. Sugarplum says Happy New Year! --Romeena

January 02, 2005 - Msg 26165: I just chuck my old Christmas cards. I really love getting them, and I used to save them, but I never did anything with them and they just sat in a shoe box and cluttered up the place. A few years back I was going thru my Christmas decoration box when I was getting ready to decorate, and I found some strings of lights that I had neatly labled "work" and "don't work". Each year I would get out the ones that worked, and leave the ones that didn't work in the box. I'd kept them in there for at least 10 years, always thinking that one of these times I'd replace the lights or figure out why they didn't work. I finally did just put them in the garbage and I've never looked back.
I got an e-mail from Asa last night, and he's still blocked from posting on here. He says "Happy New Year". Hopefully Floyd will get the problem fixed soon. I told Asa that if he can't post by next Sunday, we'd all take a drive up to state prison and see him.

January 02, 2005 - Msg 26175: Good evening, everyone. Well, drat! I was looking forward to sitting here at my window and enjoying the Christmas lights in the back yard, and now I can't. We've had a little rain, and I guess some of the connections got wet, because the GFCI plugs tripped, and the yard is dark as pitch. I tried resetting the one I can reach easily, and it tripped again immediately, so guess I'll leave them alone. I know, it's time to start taking the lights down anyway, but they're so pretty and I enjoy them so much. Oh, well...

Asa! Boy, it's good to have you back. Were there any others up there at The Rock with you? I hope Floyd is able to secure their parole soon, too. He's a wonder, that feller.

January 02, 2005 - Msg 26179: Hey all, I have a question. If someone sends you an indignant email(on EBay) because of how you made a tongue-in-cheek joke about a well-known product that is similar but possibly not as safe as the one you're selling, and it seems like they didn't get the joke. That or they are really big fans of this other product(they have a website dedicated to it in fact). And they are also(possibly) watching your item in their "watch this item" personal ebay account(I say this because my account said that someone started watching the item about the same time as I got the question).
What should I do? Should I respond and say sorry you were offended but I meant it as a joke? My wife thinks I respond at all, but then I think maybe this person IS watching it and intends to bid on it and then leave negative feedback and mess up our 100% positive feedback score, or they just want to see if I will change the description and take out the joke they don't like.
I also thought of putting in a(another tongue-in-cheek) disclaimer on the description saying something to the effect that I don't think every one of this product are bad, but I don't know if that will go over well either, but that's what my sarcastic side wants to do. ;)
Or should I just do nothing? Any suggestions? Sorry I can't give more detail here.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Have a good night(again)!

Alyce, I'd really like to know more about your cranberry chicken. That sounds like a recipe that would surely twang my buds. I ate some cranberry chicken, with long grain and wild rice, at a cozy little back-street restaurant called "The Goblin Market" in Mt. Dora, Florida, and it was gooo-oood! Next time I ate there, about a year later, they didn't have it on the menu. Seems it sorta comes and goes. Good place to eat if'n you're ever in Mt. Dora, though. Nice little town, nice place to eat.

Well, guess I'll go watch a little more TAGS. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

January 03, 2005 - Msg 26211: Hey..
Romeena: I actually got the recipe for Cranberry Chicken on this site..Aunt Bee's Cookbook. I will change it a little next time I make it, but it was pretty good. This had cranberry sauce, catalina dressing, and onion soup mix. I would scratch the catalina and maybe use a raspberry vinegrette instead. A lot of times, I have marinated chicken in that vinegrette and grilled it.

Pipe: hmm...I am known for feeding the help!! If you're here working, be sure to stay and eat. Yep, dessert too! Thought I might make some pecan tassies tomorrow for the contractors (if they show up)

Have a good night you guys..I am going back to putting ornaments away.

January 03, 2005 - Msg 26212: Hey, Alyce. I think I've misplaced Aunt Bee's Cookbook. Could you direct me to it? I checked the links list to see if I might have lost it there, but didn't see it. Help would be appreciated. --Romeena

January 04, 2005 - Msg 26213: Hey Romeena - Floyd posted the link to the Cookbook in Msg 26161 above.

Forgot to give a "hey" to spot - glad you're doing much better.

Pipeman - I don't think I could spin a tale that would be worth a TAGS set, so I guess I'll just save up my money and buy it for myself.

Alyce - when we remodeled our house and painted our new game room, my hubby used a "Paint Stick" (made by HomeRight - I think he picked it up at Sears possibly) - it funnels the paint straight into a tube attached to the roller so there's no big mess, etc. It took a little bit to get used to, and works best on flat finished walls (not textured) but it sure cut down on the painting time.

Well - I better head to bed, I've got a busy day tomorrow. Night, ya'll.

January 04, 2005 - Msg 26215: Good morning, all. Pipeman, could you toss a handful of chopped pecans into one of those flapjacks? No syrup, please, just a bit of butter smeared on, and I'll eat them like big cookies. I love waffles that way, but flapjacks work, too.

AFD, thanks for pointing me to that message and link. I guess I was thinking of something else when I read that earlier, it didn't sink in.

My friend (DIL's mom) and I are going to see "The Polar Express" this afternoon at an IMAX theater. I just love IMAX, and used to have to go to Ft. Worth to see it, but we now have one here in Dallas. Should be very good.

It's wet and drizzly here, 56 degrees, heading for 70+. It's pleasant, being this warm and balmy, but it has its problems. Things will begin to bud out that shouldn't, and bulbs will start to sprout. Then in February they'll all get their heads frozen off. Now if the cottonwood trees would just start putting their little green beads out, I wouldn't mind one bit if they got frozen. That happened once, and we had almost no cotton. It was a wonderful spring and summer!

Well, have a good day, folks. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

I was just wondering to myself, like I sometimes do... usually in the outhouse. But anyway, I wonder if Don Knotts ever sang to his daughter/children? I was just pondering that if Don was my Daddy, I'd be partial to hearing "Santa Lucia" before bed. Mr. Knotts, if you're out there, did you ever sing to your kids and if so what did they like to hear?

January 04, 2005 - Msg 26236: Wooohoooo! The Polar Express in 3D IMAX absolutely rocks!! It was incredible! I've never seen such amazing special effects in my life. I know that they "animated" right over real people, like Tom Hanks, and that a lot of computer animation was blended with real stuff, like the train, but it was absolutely seamless. You could not tell where one ended and the other medium began. Beautifully done! I highly recommend it.

You know, I have much for which to be thankful. I don't get motion sick, I have no allergies, and I eat anything. You can take me anywhere, and feed me most anything, and I'll be happy. I don't drink milk, and I'll let the snails slide on by, but that's about the only exceptions. Surely is convenient at times.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up something. Say, you Triscuit eaters - have you tried the Rosemary and Olive Oil variety? Gooood! Sugarplum likes 'em, too. She says hey! --Romeena

Who got us on this vacuum talk? It really sucks. (hahaha I crack me up). I think you were asking about them Alyce. We bit the bullet when we built our last three homes and installed central vac in all 3 of them and I wouldn't give you a dollar and a quarter for anything else. We absolutly love it. Everything gets sucked out of the house, the power head is light and does a fantastic job. And if you should ever decide to sell, it adds to the resale value in a nice way. Sorry, but Barney would never make any money from me.
You better hang on to your britches MDC. Weather is act right curious all over the place.

January 05, 2005 - Msg 26247: Asa - you're gassed!!

Cold and rainy here in the Ozarks porch - thanking the Lord that the really cold stuff isn't quite here or we'd be having freezing stuff like in KC. Some of my husband's colleagues in the Line Department may be heading that way tomorrow if things are bad.

Our church has a central vac and it is really nice - lugging a hose around is certainly easier than trying to lug a whole machine around everywhere, especially up and down stairs.

No problem on the painting advice, Alyce. I know with all that space any time saving ideas are worth it.

Thanks for the prayers, MDC - I'm sure we all can use them. Prayers for you and the rest of the porchsters from me as well.

Speaking of IMAX's - has anyone gone to one that is spherical, not just flat screened. When I was a teenager, I went to the Kansas Cosmosphere and saw a show about flying. 'Bout lost my lunch. Even with my eyes closed, I would feel like I was free-falling! Eeek!

I thought you all were talking ratio's up there with that Wheat Thin talk - half a box - I ain't never seen a half a box. Sorry - maybe I'm gassed too!

Ya'll never guess what I was eating a couple of hours ago - FUDGE! It weren't cashew fudge, but Maple Pecan Fudge from Silver Dollar City. We went last week on the last day of the year and all their confections were half price. I restrained myself and only bought 2 pounds worth though.

Night all - see you tomorrow.

Pipe...I'm right there with you on some of the garbage our troops are putting up with. I fully support the rights of all people, everywhere. We're all God's Chillin (and all have Uvulas!), but there is a point and time where "we, the people", stand up for what's right. That means a fight at times...it drives me nutsy to hear some of the bleedin hearts talk about observing the rules of war and geneva convention. Last time I checked, the terrorist that flew the planes on 9-11 weren't observing any rules...the terrorist in Iraq who kidnap and behead aren't following any conventional protocal. That doesn't mean we should abandon all civility...but sometimes you have to think like a fox, know what I mean?!

Ok...have firmly chopped up the soapbox, now have it in the fireplace. We're finally getting Chicager weather in Chicager...not a pretty day, and tomorrow is going to be worse!

Happy day to all...and God bless America!
