I read in the paper today about the dish network dropping some viacom channels. That must have been what you all were talking about. Hope you dont lose TAGS!
"That Dud is such a caution."
Auh20, Maberry Girl, etc. You all make good points! I dont know the exact place, but the word also says, "be angry but sin not (in your anger)"
This is a "holy anger", as when Moses thru down the tablets, or when Jesus cleared the temple, or when Paul stood before Agrippa. In other words, as I understand it, if we are angry over righteous causes, but in that, commit sin, (ie: property damage etc)then that is wrong!
BTW, MG- thanks for the language lesson. We have a lot to thank the Navajo code talkers for in helping to win the war in the Pacific!
Mary W- glad all went well at the show.
The Lord's protection was indeed present.

March 10, 2004 - Msg 19968: Charlotte, et al,
Here is what the article said in our local paper today: (yes, it's quite a moulage!)
Echostar Communications pulled the plug on Nickelodeon and CBS affiliates in more than a dozen cities in a legal dispute with Viacom over the price of programming. 9 million customers of Echostar's Dish network were effected.
"we are willing to negotiate as soon as Viacom
is willing to be reasonable." said Echostar's spokeman..... so the moulage is on! Someone call Sarah! Help! (Thank God our local channel is not affected.)

Evening Folks,

Mayberry Girl, great discussion. Don't get a chance to stretch the cerebral cortex too much these days. I love good hearted debate like this. It takes me back to my college days a few decades ago. My hunt and pick style of typing can throw me off course once in a while but I'll try to stay focused. I don't see the Bible as "full of contradictions." I think we're coming from to different directions. I see the Bible as the sole authority as to faith. As you said there are many examples in the Bible of Gods wrath and I believe just that. When the Bible speaks of "Gods wrath" that is what it is. At that moment God was angry, not hateful. At no time has God stopped loving us. I know I have been angry many times at people I love and at no time did I stop loving them. If I can compartmentalize these emotions I am quite confident that our Heavenly Father can do the same. Thanks again Mayberry Girl.

The weather here has been absolutley perfect. Wish you could all be here to enjoy it. Spring is really nice here in South Texas.....not looking forward to the heat come May, though. One summer (I think it was 4 years ago) it got up to 118 degrees at the end of August. Combine those temps with 90% humidity and it is horrendous. Hope things don't get that bad this summer. I wish I could get one of those above ground pools for the kids but with a 2 year old I would be a nervous wreck.

Well, as for the current theological discussion, I decline to say anything else (due to my ignorance) but I do believe the bible as we have it to be God's message to man and God-inspired; don't really care if there are some seeming-contradictions. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and it has proved itself to me. I love it because it told me about the incredible love of my God for me and it taught me about my Jesus.

Gotta go relax for awhile after a long day...

My landscaper friend was here today, got most of the rest of the roses planted. Still have five to go, though, and it's all my fault. Dirty me, I'm disgusted with myself. I've been messin' with the controls on the sprinkler system, running it through some manual cycles, and I guess I hit the wrong button somewhere, because one zone came on last night and ran for several hours. There was a LAKE out there! The five roses I mentioned were to go in that area, and there was no planting them today. We'll get 'em on Monday, I guess. Honestly, sometimes I scare myself.

Pipeman, do you remember Brownie Hawkeye cameras? I had one, and that was a doggone good little camera. It took real sharp pictures, and made great slides. Yes, I played jacks, and in fact I played not too long ago with a friend's little girl. She was amazed that I knew how. (teehee) Now, does anyone remember the "kitchen sets" that every bride just had to have? It usually consisted of a set of canisters, and a matching stove-top set, which was a pair of large salt and pepper shakers, and a grease holder. That item had a strainer that sat in the top to catch the particles in the grease, as you poured it from the frying pan. You then had clear, solidified bacon grease in the little container, that you could spoon up when you needed it to flavor vegetables or cornbread or whatever. No kitchen was complete without those canisters. The best ones were made by West Bend, and were on every bride's wish list. (There were no registries, but brides did make wish lists, which were discreetly handled by their mother or a favorite aunt.)

Hope you all have a great day.

Good weekend to ya,

March 13, 2004 - Msg 20043: Hey All!
Salty, your father is certainly in my prayers, and any one else who is feeling poorly.

Romeena, let us know what you hear about Sugarplum. We'll be praying for her, too.

I wasn't one for playing with marbles, but we used to play a game called "7-up" I think. You would bounce a ball against the wall of your house and catch it. Then number 2 was to bounce it off the wall, let it hit the ground and then catch it. Then number 3 was to bounce it off the wall, let it hit the ground, all while you spun around once, and then catch it. On and on it went with various levels of difficulty added to it. I can't remember the whole game anymore, but being I was a tom-boy, I sure loved that game and any running games, sports games, etc. Remember "Red Rover, Red Rover let......come over"?

Still cold here in Michigan. Eventually it just has to warm up, doesn't it?! Oh well, spring will come when she is good and ready!

Have a great day all,
Mary Wiggins

March 13, 2004 - Msg 20044: A little chilly here today. . .
Here are prayers for daddy and Plum. . .we want no one ailing on the porch.
Please say a prayer for a little unwed momma I know - she is pregnant, 19, and her baby most likely will be mentally handicapped. They already know. So much of a burder on her - both of her parents and her brother are mentally handicapped - she has never had a chance to have a fair life with taking care of her whole family. She could sure use some lifting up. Her aunt and uncle have finally came in to help with the burden of her parents and her brother and most likely will be adopting the new baby. So much for one girl too handle -
thanks everyone. . .

I'm gettin the corned beef and cabbage ready to go.
Mrs Wiley and mary W- I liked red rover too, but my mom sure didnt like us playing it. Was afraid we'd break an arm! After school we'd play all the games like Red light green light, mother may I, etc. We played 7up on rainy days at school.
For us, it was a game played in the classroom.
7 kids would be "up" in the front of the room, and then would tag the kids in their seats, who would all have their heads down. Then we had to guess who tagged us. Simple fun, no computer needed!! (haha)
Good Sunday to ya all

March 14, 2004 - Msg 20060: Prayers for your dad, Salty, and for you and your family. God is so amazing and I know He can give you peace in this situation. May He bless your whole family and bring healing to your dad.

Sorry to hear the Plum isn't feeling well. I will pray for her, too. Prayers also for the young woman and her baby.

It is raining a soft, gentle rain here in South Texas and it sounds wonderful as I sit here at my computer. It is already Spring here and the flowers are blooming and the trees are budding.

My son (Sean) was baptized in church this morning. It was really special and our families were there. Wanted to let my porch family know and thank you again for your prayers. My husband baptized my son and he said that when he was baptizing him, he (my husband, Bruce) started to shake like he never shook before and had to have help getting out of the water and changing. He said he believed that he experienced the power of God on him and he had never felt anything like it before. I told him it was God's annointing. Needless to say, it was a special time for Bruce and Sean.

Think I will go spend some quality time with the kids. God bless ya'll!

Anyway, Just wanted to say het and tell ya who I am. I sure love this board though. Nice bunch of folks here. where is everyone from here on this poarch? I live in Asheville but am moving my family up to Ashe County,NC this summer when my wife finishes school here. It's a great, beautiful area where I was raised up and has lots of fishing and picking for us music lovers. Alright then, have a great day and remeber to take time to smile at your neighbor and give afriendly wave. This world needs more of that! :)

March 15, 2004 - Msg 20075: Hey Porch!
Good morning and great day to y'all!

And welcome again B.H. I sure am glad you decided to pipe up! Sounds like you live in the middle of God's Country! ( But then, near as I can tell, it is all God's country!)

Did anyone get to see my Detroit Pistons game on the telly yesterday? We sure are playing well right now. Hope they keep it up. The Red Wings are also doing just fine thank you very much! We can always take solace in those two teams, especially when you consider our other major league teams of the Lions and the Tigers. I am looking a little more forward to baseball season this year though, because it looks like our owners are spending a little money on the team. We have a new catcher, Pudge Rodriguez, and it looks like we have been doing alright in the pre-season. But I don't want to get my hopes up too high!

Romeena, I am worried sick bout that little pup of yours, please check in with us and let us know how he is doing.

Great to see Felicia stopping in, and just want to say hey to Goober, Sterling, Asa, Charlotte Tucker, Boo, Homemaker, Salty, New Neighbor, Pipeman, Spot, Greg (I don't know the answer to your question, but I am sure somebody will let you know), Fun girl, Frankie Flint, Ed Sawyer, and anyone else I may have missed. Y'all have a great Mayberry kind of day filled with friendship and joy!

March 15, 2004 - Msg 20076: My, oh my! I just got a chance to read up on the porch, and am so touched by everyone's concern for my little Sugarplum. I'm very grateful to be able to say that she's fine, just fine. She saw her doctor Saturday morning, she was just limp and listless, tail down, wouldn't eat, and wanted to stay in her crate all the time. Her doc couldn't find a thing, all systems checked okay, so he said to take her home, let her rest and call him at home on Sunday if she got worse. She was better yesterday, and is in top form today, full of mischief and wanting to play. Thanks again, folks!

Good grief, homemaker! What else could befall that poor child you mentioned? Are both her parents really mentally incompetent? How on earth did they raise her? Is she normal? That poor baby! How pitiful. God help them.

Salty, we're praying for your daddy. I know how concerned you must be. Hang in there, honey.

BH, welcome to the porch. As you've already observed, this is about the nicest bunch of folks you could ever hope to find. You asked where we're from - well, you name it, and there's probably a porchster there or nearby. A few of us have managed to meet, but most have not, yet that doesn't seem to matter. We're still all neighbors.

Well, gotta run. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

March 15, 2004 - Msg 20077: One more thing-- has anyone else thought that it might be nice to have a "register", that lists our porch names and where we live? Not specific addresses, just general area. We'd have to be careful about what information was given. These days, you just have to be careful. No concern about the porchsters, but this site is open to anyone who wanders in, so I know I wouldn't want any specific identifying information there, but some general stuff would be okay. Do we already have something like that and I've missed it? --Romeena

March 15, 2004 - Msg 20078: Greg B - I think that song is in "Mountain Wedding" and is pretty readily available in stores that sell videos. It is one of the 16 public domain episodes. Hope you get it.

BH- welcome! Any sign there in NC of our county nurse? A group here in AZ plays bluegrass every wed in their home. Have been many times and love to listen even tho i dont play an instrument.
Sure reminds me of the Darlings!
But TODAY, the 15th, I want to sing "Vehicle" by the Ides of March. Hmmm, wonder why that is?

When she was in grade school - a lot of us teachers looked out for her - made sure she participated in all the things that made her normal. She was dealt a bad lot in life and it looks like she still is. Hopefully her aunt and uncle will help out now.
