It is a buffet --- good stuff with good desserts, it's his favorite place to eat. He doesn't care much for McD, or Wendy's or BK - he prefers real food and salad.

Glad to hear Laci is doing so well, possum. Anybody affected by the wildfires? Mary Wiggins, aren't you in California somewheres??
Charlotte Tucker

October 29, 2003 - Msg 16319: Nope, not me! But my sister-in-law is in Simi Valley. I called her the other day, just to make sure they were alright and they are! She said she has a view of L.A. from where they live, and looking the other way they were watching the flames off in the distance a bit. I asked her if she had packed any photos or important papers and stuff and she said no. She was just hoping the flames weren't going to get any closer. Now, I live in Michigan, and we have had fires here, but nothing like they get out west. Around here, with all the lakes, we are more likely to flood than burn!

Seems I have a "tetch" of whatever bug is going around. I have a terrible cough, headache, even my knees hurt! (That might just be my age catching up with me, though!) So I think I will help myself to some of that there soup, and get in on that incant!

Today, my little "skinkid" is getting his first report card ever! I am pretty sure he is doing well in school, but I am anxious to know for sure. My middle child was anything but a student! I think his g.p.a. was around 0.07! That is less than a D average! He is very smart, and technology is his forte, but boy did he do poorly in school! His last two years of High School I actually recommended that he drop out, but he wouldn't! There was a program there involving radio and T.V. and he loved that. So he would go, everyday, and excel in those types of classes and do absolutely nothing in Math, Science, History...well, you get the idea! I really don't want to relive those wars with my youngest.

I guess I better get ready for teacher conferences! (I hope I don't cough all over the poor, dear woman!)

God bless one and all on this here porch, and protect all the folks out there in harm's way in California,

Mary Wiggins

October 29, 2003 - Msg 16320: fungi is originally from San Diego. His brother lives really close to the fires. The grocery stores out there are on strike, and no one is picketting. Says they have called for no school and hardly anyone is going to work.

hey homemaker, how far are you from Columbus? fungi worked there at a Kroger. He was friends with a manager there and this guy didn't have any applicants to work and only a couple people on the stock crew. So he called Mike and on his days off he would go out there and work. October 29, 2003 - Msg 16325: Howdy, everyone! I'm sitting in the same place here in Florida where I've written from in the past - my son's office on the second floor of his beautiful home, overlooking the pool and lanai, and beyond that a beautiful yard, then the wetland which is about 100 yards wide, and beyond that is the lake. I can see the first half of the walkway to the lake, but can't see the rest, because there is an intentional "dogleg" (sorry, Plum) jog in it, so that the dock area is screened from view. All one sees is the wetland, and over the tops of the small trees you can see the water. Beautiful!

I declare, I can't leave you all alone for one day, without you starting to cut up and pick at one another. Who threw the soup at Spot? Did you tell him you were sorry? You did say the soup really hit the Spot, didn't you? (teehee)

The weather is lovely here, bright sunny days, warm but not too warm, and the nights are cool. Rained hard last night, but the sun was shining again this morning. Today is a bit cooler than the first of the week, but still very comfortable.

The Plum and I are having a wonderful time. She gets along very well with my son's spaniel, they even eat from the same dish without a fight. My daughter-in-law took me on a tour of the beautiful new hospital which she was responsible for from ground-breaking to completion. She's the vice-president, and the project was given to her to steer all the way through. She did it, bringing it in under time and under budget. She's a dynamo at work, and a real person at home, and has been very good to me.

I'll stop by again in a day or two, just couldn't stay away from the porch. I miss you all! Be nice now, and act like somebody! Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

October 30, 2003 - Msg 16343: Hey Warren - glad to see you, even if you were ole rafe too -
My youngest son is going as a pirate (an old vest of mine with a parrot pinned to the shoulder, a new eye patch bought at the local pharmacy, a bandana for his head and one of my old scarves tied around his waist to hold his sword. Yep - that's just the costume for school. The other is an Army guy - but it may need to be amended due to the warm weather here - maybe he could be a rock and roll star! We'll see!
Fun Girl -we are about 45 minutes to one from Columbus. The Sirloin Stockade is right next to Kroger. I called them before we got there and they had reserved this big room for 10 of us because the waiters didn't want the rest of the patrons to hear them sing. It was really nice - - our waiters name was Fabian and he was Hispanic. We thought it was funny. He got his basketball, a new Colts sweatshirt, and he got some basketball cards with a card keeper. He was a happy 7 year old.
Well - I still feel under the weather. . .

October 30, 2003 - Msg 16344: 'Mornin', everybody! Beautiful day here on the Florida porch - sunny and cool. Rob, it's nice to know you're visiting the porch kinda regular-like. Fine bunch of folks here. Friends, it looks like your prayers for her housing problem have been answered. Thank you. God takes care of us if we ask in simple faith. Warren, it's good to have you with us. Our other Rafe doesn't visit as often as he used to, and that's a pity, because he's a fine feller. *Ted, I believe I missed an introduction to you. Anyway, welcome to our cyber Mayberry.

Where is Boo, anyway? Haven't noticed her around for a few days, and that's just not like her. Hope she hasn't caught the epizooties or something. Lots of nasties going around these days. Bulbsie popped in, but disappeared again, and I haven't seen Clara in a while, or Ed and several others. Asa, when Barney stops by the bank to make a security check, see if he wants to put an APB out on some of our folks. It'll give him something to do. He'll hitch up his britches, adjust his cap, and swagger out the door all full of himself. Gotta love him!

Well, gotta run. Got some serious dock-sittin' to do. The Plum is having a great time, though she does wish I wouldn't be so consistent about making her wear her lifejacket. Also, I carry her down to the dock, rather than letting her run. There is a bobcat that lives in the wetland between the house and the lake, and it has been known to take raccoons, so I reckon it would have no trouble nabbing the Plum. Once out on the dock, she's safe. Have a great weekend, friends, and Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

October 31, 2003 - Msg 16379: My feet don't stink! Well not to much. Well, maybe a tad. Oh alright, they reek!
Hey gang, I just wanted to brag for a second. Was listening to the Sean Hannity radio show today and he was interviewing Ed Smart (Elizabeth Smart's Dad). I figured I would try to call in for the heck of it, so I tried and was the first one in. I couldn't believe it! Your lovable old guard was on national radio. So I told Sean what a swell person I thought he was and got to ask Ed Smart a question or two. All in all it was a great day.
If you'd like my autograph just let me know (sticking out my lower lip and sniffing and hoisting up my pants a tad like Barney)

November 01, 2003 - Msg 16385: Asa, I'm impressed that you got on radio!! Homemaker, Thanks for that link to the Andy statue. Yesterday, my daughter had a typical 6th grade girl day. She and her friend bought outfits alike Wed. to wear for twin day and then she was going to stay overnight last night. She was all packed and so excited when she went to the bus yesterday morning. Five minutes later, the girl's mom called and said she was sick. I knew my daughter would be devastated! So I called school and told them I'd pick her up and take her to the merchants' trick or treat after school. The minute I picked her up the tears spilled! But, we found a couple other girls and they trick or treated together so things improved. I really felt good about improving her day. That's what Moms are for, isn't it?? Watched Briscoe and the boys singin' on DVD last night. That Dooley is a dandy song now, isn't it?

November 03, 2003 - Msg 16398: Morning Porch Pals. Did I miss TKAM!? DOGGONEIT! I was watching the CBS-75 special. I had forgotten how many of my favorite shows were on CBS. Some of my best memories were of sittin with my Mom in the kitchen watching Bob Newhart, MTM, Hawaii 5-0, etc. Ang and Gome were looking well - although Andy needed help standing and sitting. I'm certain it was past Andy's bed time. It was way past mine when they both got to stand up and introduce a comedy montage. Sure was good to see them though. The first thing Andy said was, "I appreciate it.".

We appreciate you, too Andy.

Sorry to hear you're feelin' poorly Warren. Here's some good, healthy bacon, sausage, eggs and toast for ya.

Does anyone have an incant for a wrist cyst? Mine is starting to get mighty big and is uncomfortable at times. Someone should be able to come up with a catchy incant using the words "wrist cyst". Why am I all of a sudden falling apart since I passed age forty?

I got all settled in to watch Mayberry tonight and about thirty minutes into the evening some friends dropped by unexpectedly and I didn't get to watch it all. I did hear the part about Aunt Bee being nasty to Andy and I didn't like that much. Sounds like she was a bit testy, doesn't it?

November 04, 2003 - Msg 16420: Good morning dears,
I can not tell you how much I enjoyed the evening with Mayberry folk last night, and the episodes that followed. One thing that seemed odd to me, although I reckon if I had thought about it I knew it had to be...you know the board they film and they say Scene One Take Two, or whatever the case may be. Wow! I know that the show was about a television family and it was not actually a real life family, but it always seemed so much that it was, that when they showed that, it kinda threw me for a loop. I guess it always seemed so real that I wanted to believe in my own little mind that it was like reality television and they were just taping the true life of Andy and Co. Does anyone know what I mean? I have not taken leave of my senses, I just can't explain it very well. I know the show was not for real, but maybe that explains it's long running appeal. In spite of what you know, it was so easy to believe that you were just visiting with some friends. And that I am sure we all understand.

Time for a group hug!((((hug))))

Well, my son and I are just sitting here hacking away. I HATE this cough. Someone said whooping cough is making a comeback. Anybody know anything about it? I hope we don't have that. The real shame is it is sunny, and about 72 here in Michigan! We should be outside and enjoying this, cause I KNOW this ain't going to last. Soon, we will be sitting under the snow just like old Asa!

Welcome to the porch mtngirl, pull yourself up a rocker and make yourself at home. Mayberry NEVER gets too crowded and there is always room for a new friend! Some of the folks here have been around for a number of years, and some, like me, about a year or so, and then there are some who are pretty new to the porch, and we 'preciate everyone of 'em!

I think I shall make same baby back ribs, any takers out there? Come on by and have yourselves a plate full!

Oh, just got the new TV Guide (with the cast of John Ritter's show on the cover.) There's a very touching article about that show and there's also a two page interview with Andy Griffith and Don Knotts.Lots of talk about the reunion show coming up later this month on CBS.Nothing really new in it if you're a big TAGS fan like we all are,but it's nice to read.Check it out.
Enjoyed watching the TAGS thing on TVLand last night.Got excited when I heard Andy singing "The Fishing Hole" (theme song)-I've never heard it sung before!
