Today I saw a commercial about this was Women's History Month in North Carolina and they showed pictures of different women and one was Aunt Bee ! I thought that was so neat. We are going back to winter here. Cool rain today. Anyway, there is a slight chance we could get a snow flurry or dusting Sunday night into Monday morning. Imagine, snow in Mayberry ! Hope everyone is fine. Sure wish more folks would post here...Jennie, Emma, Elinora, Merle Dean, MPO and many others. Miss you guys. Since I took back that new fangled computer I got that didn't work properly, and I'm using my old one, I can't chat. But thankful to come here and visit with you folks. Have a good weekend.

Miss Ellie "Aw, Paw, can't I just look at the purty man?"

I need your thoughts and prayers, friends. I just got a call from my friend, Celeste, who told me that last night the son of some mutual friends of ours was in a car wreck. His name is David Marquez, he is 19 years old, and is one of the sweetest, funniest, smartest boys I've ever met. The girl who was driving the car was drunk, clipped a sign post and some kind of steel rod went through his brain. He is not expected to live. The doctors told his mom, Jodi, that they have never seen an injury of this type result in recovery, but prayer is very powerful, I believe that with all my heart, and miracles DO happen. Please pray for his mom Jodi, his dad Mark, and his little sister, Lauren, too. I can't imagine what those poor people are going through. The family is worried because David, as far as they're aware, isn't particularly religious, and they request that prayers be made "for his salvation". I don't know what your beliefs are, but since it's his family's request it's obviously very important to them so I'm passing it along. A miracle CAN still happen, but that's what it's going to take. Thanks so much. If anyone has any personal messages for David's mom and family, please don't hesitate to send them to me. I know whatever kind words you have will mean the world to them. ~De§~

I just talked to my friend, Celeste, and David is doing a little worse, if that's possible. He's lost what neurological activity he had yesterday and the doctors can't control his brain swelling. He's still on life support of course. Please just keep praying... there's nothing else to do. The family knows of your prayers and sends their love and thanks. It's helping them a lot to know that so many people have their son in their hearts. I'll keep you updated. ~De§~

Hey, all. After some rallying yesterday and vital signs looking better, David took a turn for the worst today and passed away this afternoon. He would have been 20 next month. The family is very touched by all the prayers and encouraging words that have come their way. Thank you so much. ~De§~

God bless the family Des, and you too for conveying their prayer requests. Sometimes, the answer seems to be "No" to the people who love the person who died, but I think sometimes in God's eyes, the answer is yes. Maybe David got his call to Heaven and prayer about his salvation answered. I feel for his family, as I know whatever reason David died they suffer a loss and hurt. Miss Ellie

This isn't TAGS related, but here goes. How old does an oak tree have to be before it produces acorns? cgirl

March 8, 2001, 9:50 pm Msg #1840
At PLANTanswers.com, it says:

Would you please inform me as to how long it takes for a red oak tree to produce acorns?

It is more a reflection of tree size, rather than age. As a general rule of thumb though, you are looking at 5 to 7 years. If the tree grows very fast, this time frame could be shorter and of course if the tree is weak and spindly, it will take longer.

hope that helps.

March 9, 2001, 8:27 am Msg #1841
You better do some more checking, it takes much longer than that. Try again. cgirl

Just thinkin' out loud.... That Barney sure was getting frisky with ol' Thel' in the back seat in the "Peggy's too rich for you" episode. That Peggy sure was a looker, and what a cool ragtop! What was Andy thinkin? Didn't the ladies have stockings on, wadin' in the lake like that? Trivia, how many times did Andy get the rock to skip on the lake? Was that the first time Barney said, "Nip it in the bud!"?
"2 nurses and a goat?"
"solid chromium"
"Exactilioso!"

I think Andy skipped the rock 5 times. I missed the news (I ain't got a brain in this world). Anyway, Andy Griffith was supposed to attend the salute in Raleigh to former Governor Jim Hunt. I bet the news covered it too and I didn't set up the VCR. Am I crazy or what? And Andy, bless his heart coming out in this foul weather. Raining cats and dogs here. Snowing in the mountains. I agree, "Welcome Sweet Springtime" but it shore don't feel like spring in my neck of the woods. Windchills in the mid 20's today. Not NC weather. Was I somehow transported to another place and I don't realize it? Hello everyone. Miss Ellie

A little Mexican kid was visiting the U.S. for the first time. He went to a baseball game and was mesmerized. When he went back to Monterrey his relatives asked him about his trip. He told them that Americans are the friendliest people on the planet. He said they were very considerate and attended to his every need, and before the baseball game even started "they all stood up and sang "José, can you see?"

Nope, I'm still here in the middle of N.C. unless I was somehow transported to another place and I don't know it. Just not our usual beautiful NC weather. Hasn't been the past few years. I'm thankful for the lovely days, but years ago we never EVER had tornadoes in NC, rarely did hurricanes effect the Piedmont, now they do, just so much of the woods cut out, cutting down barriers to cut the winds. To 1948, no that wasn't the first 'Nip it'. I think the first "Nip it in the bud" was said by Barney to Thelma Lou in the Jeff Pruitt episode.

I haven't had a chance to view the video from the news report of the salute to Governor Hunt that Andy Griffith attended. Except late at night, I can only get online about l5 minutes of the time, but for those of you who can, go to www.wral-tv.com today, click on the story "Thousands Gather to Honor Jim Hunt" and click on the video.
