January 14, 2021 - Msg 116022: MDC what a beautiful dream and so glad you wrote it down. I received a message from my mother-in-law after she passed. I brought the mail in that included a magazine that I never looked thru always saved it for my daughter and for some reason I picked it up and it opened to an ad selling perfume named Stella, my mother-in-laws name. A peaceful feeling came over me and I knew it was her. Sarah

January 14, 2021 - Msg 116023:

Mavis, when you posted about "Pileated", I did not know what that was so I had to look it up. I learned that it is the largest wood-peck-er here in Canada and the top of its head is red. (I hyphenated the bird species to avoid the censor here). You also mentioned about crows. Recently, I read something interesting about them. Apparently they have long term memory when it comes to facial recognition. Supposedly they can remember human faces for up to five years. And supposedly, they tell their crow relatives and friends when any human gets them upset. So be careful when dealing with crows.

Sarah, thanks for sharing that "sign" from your late Mother-in-law. Too bad she did not leave a more detailed and personal message.

MDC, thank you for relating your dream about your Father shortly after he had passed away. You are lucky to have written that experience down so you can refresh your memory about it anytime.

I myself dream a lot. In fact, I dream every night and even if I take a nap in the daytime. If I had written down all of my dreams, I would have enough material by now to write a book about it. I wonder if when I dream about my parents, they are putting those thoughts in my head. That brings me some comfort. But one thing concerns me. I noticed that since I am dreaming more and more, is that affecting my quality sleep time? In other words, is my brain getting enough rest when I am asleep? I can sleep for eight hours at night and still wake up sleepy requiring a daytime nap.

January 14, 2021 - Msg 116025: Mavis, your recollection of seeing your family members when you were so ill makes me think you may have been very close to passing over, yourself. How nice to think about our loved ones being there to minister to us in the end of our lives.

I have only very rarely had dreams of deceased loved ones. I do remember on a few years ago and my best friend Karen came to me to tell me something and was never able to tell me.

I have had some interesting dreams that I felt were God impressing something one me but its been awhile.

Hope everyone is staying warm. It has been pretty cold here for us Texans but today is in the 60's and sunny. I have been putting fires in the fireplace most nights and enjoying that. There is something so relaxing about sitting in front of a fire in the evening.

I don't remember if I told you all that Erin has been ill. I ended up having to take her to the urgent care on Sunday. She was in San Antonio and called me to pick her up because she had a fever, vomiting and weakness. She was pretty sick so I took her to the urgent care. She had a really bad UTI and we are waiting on culture results. There are something other things that I wont go into but I know there is something going on with her immune system. It is a process getting all the answers we need but her immune system is obviously down. She has some pending appointments and I am about to call to get results of her tests so we know if we are giving the right antibiotics. Erin is such a mess, physically. We are scheduled to see the neurologist on the 29th, then back to the internal medicine doctor. I am hoping and praying for answers.

Bruce has been home working on his trailer since he is on quarantine. Years back he bought a used flatbed trailer from a friend. Its one of those really long ones and he has had to do some work on it for quite awhile to make it usable. He had to redo the wiring, paint and rustproof the thing, replace lights, replace tires and buy new treated boards for the bottom. I can hear him out there now with an electric saw trimming the planks. I have to say the thing looks pretty spiffy. Just like brand new and now he has a way to pull his excess junk to the junk yard. Win/win. I am hoping he will go buy me a pine tree now for the front yard. His excuse all these years was that he didn't have a trailer!

I think I will go do my online grocery shopping. It making grocery shopping so easy. I just have to go pick it up.

Be safe out there

January 14, 2021 - Msg 116027: What a neat story about your Dad MDC sounds similar to my Granny's dreams before she passed away. She was on dialysis 3 times a week and was just really ready to go home as she put it. About a month before she passed she started having this recurring dream about Papaw calling for her to come to him from across a big river. She'd get up every morning and say "I dreamed about Daddy again, but I didn't make it across that river, it's too big and he knows I can't swim." Well about a week before she passed she woke up all excited because she was closer to him than before, then the morning she passed, she woke up all smiles and nearly jumping up and down. She looked at me and said "Guess what Sister? I made it across that river to Daddy last night!" I was so happy for her, but sad for me because I knew she was getting ready to pass. She had a heart attack about 3 hours later and was gone.

AsaI'm sorry about your tooth, I remember those days and they were no fun. I hope the antibiotics get to work so you can get that tooth pulled.

G-F that's a good'un, he has always cracked me up. That one and the old "It's Me Again, Margaret" are my favs.

Poor Horatio I know a lot of folks who have heard their loved ones call out to them when they are alone. I swear I've had it happen a few times to me, especially when I'm feeling very low and defeated. It comforts me knowing they are still watching over me.
I wasn't quite sure how to get past that censor on the Pileated, good idea, I'll hyphenate from now on. We have about 3 of them as far as I can tell here on the ridge, they really are something else to watch. Boy are they LOUD! Not only when they are pounding on the tree, but when they holler too. As for the crows, they seem to follow me no matter where I am, I think of them as friends. They always alert me to things going on out there.

Boo I thought that as well about me being so close to passing over. From what I've been told by the mister and my Jacob, the Dr's had told them it was 50/50 there for a couple days. I'm just glad I didn't. My brother told me later I was too ornery and wanted to stay here just to pick at him and keep him on his toes. haha I'm sending out healing energies to Erin, she's been through a lot this last little bit.

Welp, time to hush and sew up the neck line on a pair of nekkid dog jammies. I don't know how they always manage to tear them at the neck, but they do. Rotten things.

January 15, 2021 - Msg 116029: Good morning, porch! Bright, clear, windy and nice outside today. At 51°, it's comfortable if you have a sweater or a light jacket. I may just get out there and plant some bulbs this afternoon. I've got the bulbs to swing it, too. I can't resist ordering them from flyers I receive from the bulb companies, and then they have to be planted!

Mavis, it's so nice to have you back on the porch. Apparently you still have a small pack of dogs around you - let's see, you have bull terriers, don't you? Or is my memory faulty? About the torn necklines on their jammies - are they tearing them with their toenails when scratching their ears?

Boo, I'm so sorry that Erin is on the puny list. It does sound like she has a problem with her immune system. I'll beat MDC to it, and ask if you give her a zinc supplement. I know you're aware of the immune-boosting properties of zinc, but just had to ask.

I have a dear friend whose husband passed about 15 years ago, almost 10 years after my Dale passed. He had been ill for a while, with recurring lymphoma. He would improve, then sink again, and finally it overcame. He knew it, during his last hospitalization, and requested to go home, which he did and in a few days he was gone. Before he left the hospital though, he was "visited" by what he believed to be an angel, and who is to say he wasn't right? He was wide awake, alone in his room for a short time, while his wife went home to shower and change clothes. He said a pleasant, clean-cut young man, wearing blue scrubs like the patient aides in the hospital, came to his room and sat down on the foot of the bed. (Note - a hospital aide would not do that.) Henry said the young man smiled at him, and told him not to worry, that he was "going to be better very soon." He did not touch Henry, just reassured him, told him that he should just rest, and think about the good memories he had of his life, and not to be afraid, as God would take care of him. Then Henry said the young man was gone, and he could not recall seeing him leave. When his wife returned, he told her about the visit. She went to the desk and asked the nurses about the young man, and was told that they did not have any male aides working that day. Henry was not surprised, as he believed from the get-go that the young man was actually an angel. He went home the next day, lived about a week, and passed peacefully in his own bedroom. That whole event has been a tremendous comfort to my friend.

When my paternal grandmother passed, I was only six, but I loved her dearly. Her last days were spent in a bedroom at a daughter's home, and the room had an outside door, across the room from her bed, so she could look outside. On her last day, my dad was seated beside her, holding her hand. She had been sleeping, but she suddenly awoke, and told my dad that "the music is so beautiful." Then she looked out the door, and said, "Oh, there's Lon (my grandfather, who had passed three years before I was born.) She said, "He's smiling, and who is that with him? Oh, I think it's Jesus!" That was the last word she spoke, and in a minute or two, she was gone. Now, as if that wasn't enough, my dad said he was looking directly at her when her last breath left her, and he saw a distinct physical change in her. He said her wrinkles all went away, she was smiling and she looked just like she did in her wedding picture, taken when she was 16. Daddy said he could hardly breathe, she was so beautiful, but the transformation only lasted a few seconds, then her face returned to her 64 years old appearance, and he knew she was gone. Daddy always said he could never really grieve for her after that, because he knew for sure she was just fine! The beautiful young woman had passed, and left the aged shell behind. It makes me happy to know I won't have to spend eternity looking like I do now!

As the old hymn says - This world is not my home, I'm just a-passin' through!

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

January 15, 2021 - Msg 116030: MDC, I just now found a large brown envelope, in my entryway. I don't know how long it has been there, or if it just arrived today. I have a large, vertical mail slot that's at about 4ft off the floor. The delivery person often pushes things through vigorously, and they land several feet out in the entryway. I found this envelope against the wall, behind some ceramic reindeer figures (my inside decorations are still up). So it could have been there for days and I didn't see it, or it just arrived. Who knows?

Now, all I can say is: Wow! And thank you so much. I am absolutely awestruck by the gorgeous paintings of horses on that calendar, done by your niece! She has a tremendous talent, and I am so impressed, and so grateful to have these pictures. I may just frame some of them, and hang them in here in the office where I can see them. Add to that, the beautiful, inspiring poetry, and it's just a treasure. Thank you so very, very much! You're a good, sincere friend. Blessings! --Romeena

Lots of great stories about death posted here. I was in the hospital room when my own Mother passed away peacefully. During my NDE research of people who returned, there were many testimonies where people explained how their spirit left their bodies and would float overhead to watch medical personnel try to resusitate them. So when my Mother passed, I first kissed her, then looked up over her body and said a few kind words before the medical personnel rushed over. It was a very emotional moment for me.
Mom, I miss you sooooo much. I only hope you are with Dad waiting for your children to join both of you.

January 16, 2021 - Msg 116035: Good morning, porch! PH, you were blessed to have that brief moment with your mom. When my own mother passed, she was in the hospital where I worked. I had worked the night shift, going up to her room for a moment whenever I had a break. She wasn't conscious, but we never really know how much an "unconscious" person actually hears, or is aware of. I went to her room when I clocked out, and waited for my brother and SIL to arrive. When they did, I left to go home and shower and change. Just as I got home, my brother called and said to come right back. I did (about six minutes away), and when I arrived, she had just passed. I had talked to her for a while before I left, and assured her it was okay for her to leave us, that my brother and I would look after my dad, who was at that time in the early stages of Alzheimer's. She had been restless, but seemed to calm down after that little talk, though I will never know whether she really heard me or not. We, as nurses, were taught that hearing is usually the last sense to depart, but no one really knows. We were also taught to encourage families to give the patient permission to leave, so that's what I did, and I'm glad I did, as it did seem to give her some peace.

MDC, I really think that envelope had just arrived with that day's mail. It was partially hidden behind those big ceramic reindeer, but I saw it that day, so I think I would have seen it if it had been there earlier. Also, Trinket doesn't chew up the mail anymore, thank goodness. When it arrives, she runs in there, and if it's on the floor, she sniffs at each piece, noses at them and flips them over, but doesn't do anything else. After she's satisfied there are no bombs, booger-bears or spiders in them, she trots back out of the entry and doesn't bother them anymore. If it had been there very long, though, I don't think she would have bothered it. She has been threatened with mortal harm if she bothers the ceramic reindeer, and gives them a wide berth. I cleaned, fired and painted them years ago, they are adorable, will be passed on to my kids, and if she knocked one over on the tile floor, it would shatter. All of that has been conveyed to Trinket, though I'm sure what she actually heard was "wah, wah, wah, Trinket, wah, wah!"

Billy Ray, it's good to hear from you. I hope you'll keep checking in, especially if you get to join the ranks of the "retired-and-loving-it" here on the porch. Do you have a "wheeler"? That's a recliner, if you don't already know that. It's required equipment when you retire.

Well, guess I'll go feed little Trinkie, and find something for myself. Maybe just a big glass of apple juice, which I just love! TreeTop brand, made from Honeycrisp apples, and not filtered. It is so rich and sweet and refreshing! Gotta love it. It's almost lunchtime, so guess I'll have the juice with some crackers, some of that wonderful "Butterkase" cheese, some cherry tomatoes and baby carrots. Sounds good to me!!

Blessings, friends. Have a great weekend and a peaceful Sabbath. --Romeena

January 16, 2021 - Msg 116036: Thank you Ro and MDC. We did finally get the results of the tests and she has a kind of bacterial infection that infected her bladder and caused a raging infection. Luckily it didn't go to her kidneys or spread to her uterus. It's Gardnerella (Romeena will know what it is). She said it all started with a scratch that became infected and spread from there. We have her started on Metronidazole now and she is so much better. No fever, pain is easy to manage, and she is actually on her feet and getting around now. She had a much-needed visit from a friend yesterday and that raised her spirits. She was also relieved to get an actual diagnosis to know exactly what she was dealing with. Thank you for the prayers!

The weather here has been amazing! Cold in the morning and evening, sunny and perfect during the day. Hope the rest of you are staying warm.

They started the mass vaccine clinics in Corpus Christi at the fairgrounds but thousands of cars line up, starting in the early morning hours and the vaccines are gone by mid morning. People are really wanting to get vaccinated and I wish it was easier for us to do so.

Well, better get back to the kitchen and clean up.

I've spent the better part of the day piddlin' mostly doing ren faire things. We are trying to come up with ways to make money in this Covid environment. Tennessee has been listed as the number 1 state with positive cases with our area, NE Tennessee, being number 1 in the state. Not a statistic to brag about that's for sure. We've had to put our buckets on our heads and come up with different plans this past year.

Romeena it's nice to be back. I do still have a small pack of dogs here, and you remembered right, Bull Terriers as well as Chinese Cresteds. We're down to just 1 Bullie now, Pappy who is 13 years old now, 5 Cresteds, the Wizard of Oz pups who are 8 now and Chief who is 15, and Peggy Sue the Toy Poodle who is also 13. We have 3 cats too, 1 big blue cat who just showed up one day 7 years ago and decided he was going to adopt us and 2 nekkid aka Sphynx cats.

January 18, 2021 - Msg 116042: Good morning, porch! It's "clabberin' up" to rain here. The sky is a muddy gray color, and looks like it's about to fall down at any minute. Suits me, I can leave the sprinklers turned off for another week or so. Sure trims the water bill down!

G-F, that squirrel video was hilarious. It's a good thing we couldn't hear what he was saying. Squirrels do use some salty language at times. I remember when I had a little strawberry bed in the way-back of my yard, close to the back fence. I had discovered five huge berries in one clump, almost ripe. I left them until the next day, to fully ripen. When I went to pick them, a squirrel was trotting along the top of the fence, heading for those same berries. When he saw me getting ready to pick them, he stopped, tail swishing, and let loose with a string of squirrel profanity that left no doubt as to what he was saying. He even pulled a little twig off a nearby tree branch and threw it at me, cussing the whole time. He was hilarious, so I took pity on him. I picked three of the berries, and left two for him. By the time I got back to the house, he had pulled those two berries, and was haulin' down the fence line, berries in his mouth.

Mavis, if that's a "small pack of dogs", I'd hate to see a large pack. I tried to figure out the total, and think it's about ten dogs. And 3 cats! I have all I can handle with one dog, Trinket. She will be 2 in May, is one busy little girl, and keeps me on my toes. She's finally house-broken now (well, almost) and has quit shredding the mail that makes it to the floor from the slot. However, at least once a day she will find something to shred, and builds a confetti pile somewhere in the house. A roll of bathroom tissue is one favorite target. Also, she will take pieces of her kibble out of her food dish, and arrange it in a little circle on the floor around the dish. I've never figured out her criteria for choosing what to eat and what to put on the floor. It's all the same thing!

Boo, I'm so glad you figured out what has made Erin so sick. Bless her little heart, she has had her challenges. I wonder if maybe God allowed this treatable illness, to clip her wings for a little while, and give her time to think things over? Keep looking up!

Well, better get busy. I have to make a grocery store run today. My friend Donna is coming over tomorrow to teach Brittany, Eloise and me how to use an Instapot. I bought one recently, and scared myself when I read the instructions. I have zero experience with pressure cooking, beyond what I witnessed as a child. My grandma had one of the old, original pressure cookers, with the lid you turned until it clicked and the little pressure valve that sat on top. One day, just as I walked into the kitchen (about age 8) that thing blew its cork, shot the little valve thingy straight up, where it went right through the ceiling, and my dad later went into the attic and retrieved it! At that moment, I made a note-to-self: Never mess with a pressure cooker! And I never have, until I ordered this evil thing. Now I have to learn how to use it.

My friend Donna, who has made a lifetime commitment to being a little ditzy because it delights her husband, has one, is making wonderful meals with it, and by golly, if she can do it, I can do it, I think. Actually, Donna is very intelligent, and is smart enough to build on her husband's amusement when she plays the bubblehead. So, tomorrow she's coming to teach us how to use the thing. Brittany has one, too - still unused so far, and Eloise is thinking about getting one. I will get the ingredients for spaghetti and meatballs, supposedly to be ready to eat in nine minutes in that miraculous pot. We'll see.

Well, off I go. I want to get to the store and back before this weather breaks. It sure looks like it could get nasty. The critters are feeling the threat, too. Not a bird in sight (very unusual, they're usually very active in the morning,) and there are at least six squirrels digging holes in the yard, either burying something or digging something up. So, have a good day, my dears. Blessings! --Romeena

Good evening all! I was listening to a bit of Rocky Morris' "The Winning Side" CD today. Some very timely songs that our dear Rev wrote are on it.
Well, tonite's two episodes were about Ernest T Bass' education and Roger Hanover. Not two of my favorites, but not every one was a gem. ha
But I could only watch about 5 minutes of Roger. I just don't cotton to that episode.
Ernest T has some classic lines like "Mother figure, Old man Kelsey's Ocean, and wanting to show Romeena his diploma!" :)
In fact, that reminds me of a situation when I was teaching...
It was actually my very first year of teaching, and I had a 15 year old 8th grader who had been held back twice. I tutored him after school, and we decided to graduate him at the end of that school year. I did not do any following up on how he was doing, but one day, about 18 years later, I saw a sign inside a McDonald's that said "'John Doe' Proprietor." (I obviously did not use his real name.) But anyway, I inquired, and yes, it was the same guy, and he owned 3 Mickey D franchises!
Lucky me, today was shower cleaning day! About once a month I thoroughly clean our shower with a product called "Clean Shower." It is a non-toxic cleaner
which is good on 'fake marble,' which we have. That product and a Magic Eraser or two, works really good on the sides and glass door as well. My wife says that I really
'get into' my work! ha
ROMEENA-We got a little rain here today too; and they say that we could get more in the next few days. We sure can use it!
So very cute about your squirrel! :) BTW, did you know that they sell 'toilet paper protectors?' We had one for our cat! Here is a link...https://tinyurl.com/y6c8p7jn
How did things go with the instaPot? My mom used to use a pressure cooker all the time.
GF--cool videos! Thx.
Hang in there gang, and prayers for all,

Hi Folks! Tonite's episode was Opie's Fortune.
One cute line is when Opie says "That's a lot of money for any size fella." :)
Then there is the scene of Andy holding his bank book. Remember those?
It was all written by hand in the teller's handwriting!
And, of course, there is the great ending of Andy finding out about
Opie's honesty!
RAIN! Yes, we got rain today, and they say more on Friday and Saturday! woohoo!
We sure do need it.
Floyd emailed a few of us last week saying that he didn't want to erase posts
about politico stuff, but to keep it civiland to act like somebody, so i think we've held off on
such things. I will only say that i think we really need to pray hard for our country. Thx.
PH--that is quite a bit of money for a CD!! hmmm, I'm guessing that it must be a misprint! Also, that was quite an obstacle course for the squirrels, even with items from two shows that I
often watch, ninja and wipeout! ha
I hope everyone is doing OK. God bless.
Prayers,
MDC :)

January 22, 2021 - Msg 116054: Good morning, porch. I notice that I don't seem to be alone in my silence. I think most, if not all, of you are feeling much like I am. Heartsick, sad, fearful of the next four years. Millions more babies will be slaughtered, for starters. We are on a dangerous and slippery slope, as we slide into Soci@lism, and slide further from our Creator.

I've been in an emotional black hole, but I have no intention of staying there. I'm dealing with it. I keep reminding myself that God is in control, and even though I'm aware that in similar situations over the centuries, He has preserved his people, it was not without trials. However, I've read the Book, and I know how it ends. God, and His people, will prevail.

I just try to keep looking up. I love all of you, I fear for the consequences that will eventually befall the adversaries, and pray for their souls. I may be a little scarce for a while, but it's not in my nature to give up. I will hold onto the ultimate happiness, and continue to trust my Lord. Blessings, friends. Keep looking up! --Romeena

January 22, 2021 - Msg 116055: So sorry to hear you are in a dark place now, I was there a few weeks ago. I turned off the news except for our local news and weather every morning. I know it's not a good thing to bury your head in the sand but it has helped me somewhat. Everything will be alright, I'm an optimist 🙂 Sarah

January 22, 2021 - Msg 116056: MDC, I recently found our old bank book while cleaning out our file cabinet and saved it to show our grandchildren and we have saved a portable royal typewriter too. Sarah

G-F, I have something to say about those two Rocky Morris links you posted (116058 & 116059).
Our Rocky Morris was an amazing musician, singer and composer. I absolutely love his country style of music. Although I own some of his CDs, I regret that I never had a chance to meet him or hear him perform live. I envy Rocky because he found his niche in life and was a success. Rest in peace Rocky.
Although I have done many things during my years here on earth, I am still looking for my niche. Unfortunately, prayer has not helped me and that is why I no longer participate in an organized religion. I have too many unanswered questions. In spite of that, I still live a Christian life. And just like the band U2 sings in one of their hit songs, "I still haven't fount what I'm looking for".

Bless all of you.

January 22, 2021 - Msg 116062: PH...I think Romeena, possibility Possum had met REV. I had spoken to him once on the phone when he called to thank me for a donation to his ministry. We had a nice talk and he was kind enough to send me a CD and his guitar picks.

I know Romeena has shared some of her experiences when he came to her church to sing... Yes, we miss REV and others like out TOM too..

Good Friday evening!
GF-Thank you for those videos of Rocky. They were indeed insightful as we all
are trying to navigate the future. I guess the main thing is that, like St. Paul,
we keep our eye on the prize. I think we will see some judges
stopping some of the orders, and I think others will step up.
As youall know me, I have already written some letters.
I think they do get read by somebody along the line, and that
they can make a difference. I know that that is not everybody's way to get involved, but it sure helps me.
PH... hang in there. I have had several 'niches' in my life,
first teaching, then commercial art, then a various number of jobs. When I retired I really didnt have a great sense of accomplishment, it was more of a retirement because of the
'inept' (yes, a mayberry reference:) people that I last worked with.
And no problem about organized religion, it just doesnt work for everyone. You mentioned that you are living a Christian life.
That's all God is asking of us, and you are doing it, my friend. :)
RO--good to hear that you are doing OK. Remember, we have the Blessed Hope. :)

Tonight's episode was about Andy thinking about moving to Raleigh.
One 'inconsistancy' that i noticed is this: In an earlier episode, when Barney gets
offered the Greendale job, Andy says, "Sheriffin' is a lot different than deputin'";but tonight Andy says that he thinks barney could do the sheriff's job no problem. ha.
Oh, and GF--thanks also for the trailer...it looks like a neat movie!

January 23, 2021 - Msg 116064: Hey Y'all- I am with you on being in that black hole,Romeena. Can't believe what this country is having to deal with as of Jan. 20th. Will keep the faith and try to muddle through, though. God bless us all!

G-F- - No, I never met Rev. I know his hometown, and have been to some of the same places he has performed in and so I have some sort of connection to him in that way. Always think of him and feel his spirit when I'm up around Prosperity,SC.

Now,we MIGHT have crossed paths when we were young because I recall a conversation we had here on the porch about Newberry,SC,which is the "big" town near where Rev grew up. I spent summers up that way with my Mama's family, and my aunt would take us to Newberry to the "picture show" and then over to a newstand/comic book store type of place. Rev told me that he was always in there as a boy,so perhaps we both were in there at the same time when we were kids. ?? I like to think we were.

Y'all take care and have a good weekend. Love to all.

January 23, 2021 - Msg 116065: Good Saturday afternoon porchsters!
I have to say that I have been quiet because I have been celebrating not having a narcissistic grifter who praises white supremacists by telling them they are good people and that he loves them for my President. That's all I'm going to say about that and I'm going to tick a lock on any further political opinions from me. 😉

Meanwhile, I wanted to share a live eagle cam that I have watched for the last 3 years. This eagle nest is about 10 minutes from me. She laid her first egg last year on Jan 27 so time is getting close! 🥰 ETSU also has live cams on another nest in Johnson City, TN about 30 mins from me, as well as a group on FB that posts lots of pictures, videos and updates on the eagles.
Lots of times at night there are little chipmunks that flit around in under the nests trying to steal bits of the fish that have been brought in to eat. All of them are known as Speedy and all of them never fail to make watching even more fun. I keep a tab open and the volume up while I'm doing other things on here so I can pop over if I hear anything.. Hope y'all enjoy watching them as much as I do.

January 23, 2021 - Msg 116066: Good afternoon, porch. It's a gray and dreary day here today, not very cold, just wet and drippy. Even the critters are all holed up somewhere, apparently, because there's no one in the yard. A discouraged-looking cat picked his way through the wet grass a little while ago, but otherwise, all is quiet.

Mavis, thanks for the eagle nest link. I've tucked it into my "favorites list" and will be checking in often. I have a hummingbird nest
somewhere in a Western state on a link that I visit often. Beautiful little things.

My dad used to say "sometimes the devil you know might be better than the devil you don't know." Think about it. 'Nuff said.

Possum, I share your pain and apprehension. I think we ain't seen nothin' yet! I'm just glad I'm as old as I am, when I think about the horrors I'm going to miss.

Now - regarding REV, I was so blessed to have the opportunity to get to know him pretty well. He was an amazing man, very kind and thoughtful, fun, and so deeply committed to his Lord. He was a guest at our church once a year for five years, usually in October. Our church was the last concert he actually did before he passed so suddenly. He spent three days with us. He arrived on Thursday morning, we had lunch and set up the fellowship hall for the concert on Thursday night. He spent Friday with my friend Eloise and me, had lunch, and did a little grocery shopping. I took him to Wal-Mart to fill a prescription, then we had dinner at my house with my family that evening. My grandsons, ages 10 and 12 at the time, were so impressed, and he was so kind to them. He played his guitar and sang for us a little, showed the boys some chords on the guitar, and shared a little private conversation with them, about what Heaven might be like. Believe me, that memory hit home when we got the news of his passing. We adults had overheard bits and pieces of that conversation, but it was confirmed when we told the boys what had happened. They both started crying, and the younger one said, "We were just talking about what Heaven is like, and now he knows!" I'll never forget that. I feel extremely blessed to have had the chance to know Rocky so well, and will always cherish those memories.

Well, guess I'd better do something constructive around here. Or not. There's always tomorrow. Blessings, friends. Keep looking up. --Romeena

January 23, 2021 - Msg 116067: Howdy Porch!

Hey Mavis, good to see another Democrat on the porch. lol I have to say that I sleep better with the current administration, especially because they are taking the covid crisis so seriously. In fairness, no one knows what the future holds but for today, I feel safer.

Hope everyone is staying warm and well. We are holding on to Vicksburg!
