July 14, 2019 - Msg 112571: I guess I was thinking about how painful it was going to be, sweeping the porch. Po', po, pitiful me. (sniff!) --Romeena

July 14, 2019 - Msg 112572: Wow, hoping they can find a remedy for your painful situation!

Hey to John Masters. Sorry for your trials and know we are here if you ever decide to share them.

Sarah, I live in South Texas and have been visiting the porch for about 17 years now. I am a nurse since 1983 and work at a rehab for teens. I am married to Bruce and we have been together for 30 years. We have 2 children , Sean 24 and Erin 17 and believe me, my porch friends have helped raise them through their constant advice, encouragement, and many prayers. I thank God for my friends here and I truly love them. They have seen me through so much and continue to be a constant source of love and friendship. I can only hope I can sometimes do the same for them. You are welcome here, as part of us.

I’m at work so need to go find something to do. Hope you all have a wonderful day

Boo

July 14, 2019 - Msg 112573: Stopped by the market today to pick up a few things and ordered half pound of Swiss cheese at the deli. The clerk asked what kind, I said Swiss and he asked what kind again and I looked at him puzzled and said Swiss again. He finally said imported, domestic and something I didn't understand and I told him domestic. When did it become so difficult to order cheese. Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome here. I remember the sharp puppy teeth Romenna, the last puppy we had nipped and scratched my hands and chewed my husbands socks with his feet in them!....Sarah

July 14, 2019 - Msg 112574: Sarah, Next time you buy milk and they ask you...Do you want this in a bag? You just tell them....
No, Let’s just keep it in the carton..Ok?...🤣..G-F

July 14, 2019 - Msg 112575: Sarah, just an FYI also, ...every now and then, Floyd, our moderator here, clears the deck so to speak, and we get a clean "porch", like what just happened.
If you click on the little "Archives" word below, however, you can check out previous posts.
And...next time you order cheese, just say "the kind with holes!" haha
Well, my bags are packed. I will have my laptop with me, so i will try to check in now and then with y'all next week.
I hope the hurricane did not affect anyone here. Prayers tho for all those folks.
Prayers for all, enjoy your Sunday afternoon!
Later,
MDC

July 14, 2019 - Msg 112576: Romenna, Hope you get some relief from the back pain. Will keep you in my prayers. When my Mom was unable to make transfers in and out of the car we would watch the Daily Mass together on TV or the internet every day. You might be able to google and find a service to watch on the internet. They have just about everything on the google search.

MDC, you have a nice and safe trip.
Sarah, I thought there was only one type of swiss cheese also.

July 15, 2019 - Msg 112579: Good morning all.

GF, You are a star. Very fun read about how much that has grown.

MDC, Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip. It will be nice for you to get out of that "dry heat" of Arizona for a bit.

Sarah, Must have been a fancy pants deli to be offering 3 different kinds of swiss cheese. Whoda thunk? I am always amazed when I buy toothpaste. I can't believe the variety of toothpastes out there. Some for whitening teeth, some for tarter control, some for sensitive teeth, every flavor under the sun, every color known to man, 14 different brands and each brand offering 14 different types of toothpaste. I get so confused. :)

Boo, did you get your counter trimmed down and your fridge moved in place? You should have called Frankie. I bet she could have trimmed that down for you. She is very handy. :)

Hey John Masters, I would love to hear of the boo boo's you have seen. I enjoy those little mistakes, not in a mean critical kind of way. It's always funny having seen the same episodes so many times to see something you had never noticed before.

Well supposed to be another hot one, so I best get a few things done outside now before it gets to hot. Then I have to take Debbie to a doctors appointment later this morning.

And if I could ask you all for some prayers for my neighbors, Rob and Trudy. There oldest Daughter took her life a couple of days ago. Very tragic. She leaves behind 2 teenage daughters. I went over last night and talked to them for a bit. As expected, they are very distraught. To lose a loved one is always hard, but to lose one to suicide is devastating. Thanks friends.

Asa

July 15, 2019 - Msg 112580: Asa, so sorry to hear about your neighbor. Prayers coming there way.

I think I can help Boo with that counter. I have a new mini circular saw 4-1/2 inch. Just my size but it sure can saw good. I will saw that counter for ya!
Frankie

July 15, 2019 - Msg 112581: Asa...So sad about your neighbors...I can’t even imagine the grief they are going through right now....G-F

July 15, 2019 - Msg 112582: Sending 🙏 for your neighbors Asa. The toothpaste section is like the shampoo section so many choices. Frankie love that you know how of operate a circular saw. Romenna how is little Trinket doing? Sarah

July 15, 2019 - Msg 112583: How awful about Rob and Trudy's daughter, Asa. I feel so sorry for them and will pray for them. I cant even begin to imagine.

Boo

July 16, 2019 - Msg 112584: Good morning all and thank you for the prayers and good thoughts for Rob and Trudy. I know they are felt and appreciated. My heart just breaks for them.

Frankie, what brand is your new saw? GF and me love tool talk. That is one thing I am going to miss being retired. We got a yearly tool allowance that I took advantage of. I miss that new tool smell. :)

I wonder if MDC got him that usual corner room at the Y. He's probably down getting that early morning breakfast they have between 5 and 6 a.m.

Well I hope everyone has a nice day. Sarah, I'm waiting on a call from the State Capital. Put it right through if it comes please and this is hush hush. Thanks.

Asa

July 16, 2019 - Msg 112585: Asa, wow a call from the State Capital, I won't leave this switchboard till it comes through. Did someone get kicked out of the house in DC and they need you to step up? Just made banana bread and it called for two teaspoons of milk, out of milk so I used Reddi Whip whipped cream, two large squirts. Got to go the board is ringing it may be Asa's call....Sarah

July 16, 2019 - Msg 112586: Asa-My new saw is a Hyper Tough. I purchased it at my favorite Wal-mart store. It is very compact and has a two year warranty. Very easy to use and just the right size for me.

Sarah-That banana bread sounds really good. Hope you take some with you to the switchboard for your break.
Take care all!
Frankie

July 16, 2019 - Msg 112587: Romeena has been absent for a bit. I guess she is somewhere getting her toes chewed on. Tee Hee.

Yes Asa, Bruce found someone to cut the counter and the fridge is in place. I have been enjoying that fridge with it's icemaker, I tell you for sure!!

I have been conquering household tasks that needed to be done this week. Today I tackled the pantry under the stairs. That one is always a challenge because once you are inside you can't stand up all the way. Its clean, though and organized.

Took my car in today to get an alignment and tires rotated. I am driving to San Angelo on Monday to stay the week with Bruce, as he is working there. It will be nice to get away, just the two of us..no laundry..no cooking..sleeping in. yay. I have been looking online at things to do while Bruce is at work but not finding a whole lot. There is a very interesting looking old general store that looks like fun and an historical park of some sort..and they have a longhorn steer farm you can tour or something. They have longhorns and bison, which I love. San Angelo is about a 6 hour drive from here but I really don't mind. I will have my trusty revolver with me and a full tank of gas. That is really all a Texas gal needs.

Guess I will slow down, put my feet up and watch a little TAGS. That's the plan..slow down...put my feet up...watch some TAGS. Yep...slow down...feet up...TAGS.

July 17, 2019 - Msg 112588: For the love of Mike Boo, just DO it! ha. Mdc here with a trouble check. Looks like all is OK in Mayberry.
ASA, the corner room at the Y was taken, so i am
at a fancy hotel where the rooms are 7 DOLLARS! Of all the gall! :)
Having a good time here in SB. Got in some time on the beach, and took a walk along the shore without being out of breath! Such a nice feeling!
Hope all goes well with Romeena and her new pup.

Boo

July 17, 2019 - Msg 112591: Enjoy your get away with Bruce Boo. Sounds like you are prepared with gas and ALL. Spot I will take a burger with everything. I didn't plant a garden this year, last year I had two tomato and two cucumber plants and we along with our neighbors could only eat so many. We have a local grown produce stand ten minutes away. Asa the call you were expecting still hasn't come through. Sarah

July 17, 2019 - Msg 112592: Afternoon all.

Headed out to Stacey's for a swim party. Yee-haw!

I hope everyone else is fine and dandy. Boo, sounds like a nice little get away for sure. A full tank of gas and a sidearm, I'd say you were e- kwipped. :)

Sarah, I'm surprised that call hasn't happened. The nerve, the gall, of all the unmitigated gall in fact! See if I ever call them again!

MDC, 7 dollars for a room? Goll-eee, you must be loaded. Don't stay out in the sum to long. I think that's what happened to all those hollyweird folk, to much sun.

I watched a bunch of video's yesterday on youtube about the Apollo 11 launch, 50 years ago. Fun to go back when I was just a kid. Seems like just yesterday.

Well I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable evening.

Asa

July 17, 2019 - Msg 112593: Good Evening Porch!
Have a nice trip Boo.
Spot-Save a burger for me with all the works.
Asa-I remember watching Apollo 11 fifty years ago. My sister and I were sitting very close to the TV and all excited watching. It is one of those moments when people ask you where were you when this happened. Good memories.

July 18, 2019 - Msg 112594: Good morning, porch. I was sleeping so well, until I was attacked by a tiny buzzsaw with fluffy white fur and big brown eyes. When she's in attack mode, nothing is sacred. She will nibble fingers, toes, earlobes, noses, and crepe-y arms! At this moment, she's under my desk, in her little cuddlebed, resting up from her latest foray. She followed me through the house, nipping at my heels, as I was struggling to carry a heavy bag of recycle stuff from my desk and out to the street. I managed to lose her at the door to the garage, because no way will I let her follow me out there, but she made the trip through the office, the living room, the kitchen and the laundry room a very interesting experience. Try carrying a heavy bag of discarded mail and magazines and catalogs, through the house, down one step and up another, with your painful ribs screaming at you, and all the time trying to avoid stepping on a 2-lb ball of fur and sharp teeth, who is determined to bite off every toe you possess. 'Tain't easy!

On the flip side, I know that this too shall pass. When not in nibble-mode, she is the sweetest, most loving little thing, and I don't know how I survived those three months without her. She will outgrow the nibble stage all too soon, and I will miss her puppy behavior. Tuesday night, it was a little chilly in my bedroom when we went to bed, and she tried several snuggle locations to get warm, but then she moved away from me. When I noticed, and looked for her, she was lying on the corner at the head of the bed, stretched out flat on her little belly, snoozing away. Curious, I looked a bit closer, and realized she was stretched out on my phone, which was on the charger and therefore was warm! Huh! She ain't so dumb!

Sorry -I'll probably bore your ears off with puppy stories, but I'm just having so much fun with her, and she's so sweet. Pesky, but sweet!

Asa, I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbors' troubles. That's every parent's nightmare, and it happens more often than we know. We seldom see it in the news, it is replaced by the story of some movie star's latest stunt, divorce, brawl, whatever. For the family, it's a very tough thing to get through. They will have questions - what did we do? What didn't we do? What should we have done? - and there are no answers. Even if there were answers, at the end of the day, it's a personal decision made by the individual, and it's nobody else's fault. Prayers for that family, for sure.

Boo, so glad you and Bruce are getting away together for a while. Even though he's working, there will be free time, and you'll find something to do, or just spend the time quietly, just the two of you. Everyone needs a break like that now and then, and I'm glad it came for you.

Well, guess I'd better go feed this tiny tornado. My house looks like a pet-toy store exploded, there must be 25 or 30 dog toys, scattered everywhere, and before I can leave the house, I have to hunt my shoes. She looks so cute and funny, trotting through the house on her tiny legs, head held high as she drags a shoe, or a toy that's bigger than she is. I've only had her a week, and I can see that she's grown some in that time. All too soon, these puppy days will be behind us, and life will be more peaceful, so I'm enjoying this time while it's here.

Oh, Robbi posted some pictures of her on my Facebook page. I don't do much with Facebook, but she does and knows how to do things like that. I don't even know who can or can't see my page. I think you have to be a "friend" of mine? If that hasn't been established, just send me a request and I'll accept it. At least I think that's how it's done.

There is a swarm of butterflies hovering over that stand of zinnias out back! Big ones, little ones, fast ones darting about, big slow ones drifting gracefully above the blooms, just beautiful. Those "dwarf" zinnias are at least four feet tall, but just blooming away. I think I'll go cut some for the house. Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

July 18, 2019 - Msg 112595: I would love to see your puppy Romenna, where do I sent the friend request, I am on Facebook. Sarah

July 18, 2019 - Msg 112596: Well, Sarah, I don't know much about Facebook myself, but I'm listed as Lanni Fish on there, so I guess you just send the request to me on Facebook. I'm not sure how that's done, but I'm guessing that you know. --Romeena

July 18, 2019 - Msg 112597: Thank you Romenna, I just sent you a friend request. Sarah

July 18, 2019 - Msg 112598: Romeena!! I saw the pics of Trinket that Robbi posted on Facebook and she is absolutely adorable! She has a heart-shaped nose! What a sweet baby and I am just thrilled that you have her. I think her name suits her picture. Please don't stop telling us all about her! I love hearing all the details and you are such a descriptive writer that it is just fun to read about her. She certainly sounds like a smart pup and you are right, she will be grown before you blink your eyes. My Poopsie is one now but still very puppy-like in many ways. She is so playful and curious and still makes us laugh so much. I wish she didn't play with the cat, though. I ended up having to take Gracie to the vet yesterday because she was holding her eat own and shaking her head now and then. I thought she might have mites, but no, the vet didn't find anything so I suspect that Poopsie bit her too hard while playing. I don't like that but not sure how to prevent it. The cat could set her straight in a hurry but seems to enjoy playing with her most of the time and when she doesn't she grabs Poopsie around the neck and gives her a bite.

You know, Poopsie doesn't want to sleep in my bed for long, Ro. I try but she always gets down and goes into the living room to sleep on a blanket on the ottoman if she isn't sleeping with Erin. I think maybe she doesn't like my cpap machine because it makes a noise. Also, for some reason, when I put her on my bed she thinks it's playtime and goes nuts trying to play with my hands and feet. Obviously, that doesn't work out for long because in an attempt to get my feet, she scratches on my great aunt's homemade quilt.

Been a busy day of chores and laundry. I woke with a migraine but after taking a pill it finally let up. I cleaned out some drawers for the local charity shop, did laundry, and made a big pot of delicious veggie and 9 bean stew. Wow, it came out great! I just had a bowl and enjoyed it. Its so nice to eat food that tastes great and is so full of nutrients for the body.

I have a full day tomorrow and then work the weekend so hope I can sleep tonight. I have to take Bruce's truck for an alignment tomorrow, then I have a mandatory meeting at work, then I am having some family over for supper and a movie. I think I will make some pizza dough with my kitchen aid mixer and let everyone make their own little pizza with whatever toppings they want.

Well, I am still working on laundry so need to go get some things out of the dryer. Hope you all are well and blessed!

Boo

PS-25 to 30 dog toys, Ro?! I hope you have one of those pick-up things so you don't have to bend to pick all that up! I limit Poopsie to about 5 toys that I keep in a basket. lol

Romeena, I don't do facebook but I would enjoy any pics you can e-mail me. And I agree with Boo. We love reading about your adventures with Trinket. So keep them coming. And please be careful. Don't trip on those toys. We need you whole.

Boo, was that pill you took one that Emma takes for her pains? lol Glad you are feeling better. But I must say, you talk about Poopsie not sleeping with you, and then mention eating a 9 bean stew. I mean really Boo, do the math girl. :) (jk Boo)

Frankie, I was 14 when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. And one thing I have always regretted was not being able to see it live on the tv. I had gone camping with our neighbors and we were supposed to be back before the landing, but they decided to stay an extra day or two. We did listen to it on the radio, but not the same. I remember that night, lying there in my sleeping bag, staring up at he moon and thinking with amazement that there were actually men on the surface of the moon that night. We were at a place about 8,000 ft in the mountains, and the night sky is so clear, and the stars so bright. Never has the phrase "so close, yet so far away" ring so true.

Sarah, you got any good gossip for us? I heard GF was on the phone for quite a while with some stranger up in Mt. Pilot. And they were not discussing A/C stuff.

Well off to get some supper I reckon. Not sure what though. To dang hot to get very serious.

G-F, I know you and Mr. & Mrs. Maude are enjoying the Meet Up! Couldn't make it this time ,as I have other stuff going on,but you tell Otis & Floyd that possum said hello!

I can't believe the governor snubbed our Asa like that-of all the unmitigated gall!

Sarah, I think we've met but to tell you a little about myself- I'm a lady possum who lives in the Carolinas where it is DANG hot right now and you'll notice I mention "Laci" every now and then. She's my grandchild, soon to be 16,who is differently abled with cerebral palsy. She is one of our Porch babies and she's grown up with the prayers and love from her uncles and aunties here on the Porch.I used to work with special needs kids and even at Cracker Barrel for a while, but am sort of retired now.Spent the last 4 years being a caregiver to my mama ,who has been gone one year on the 24th of this month.Anyway, that's a brief description about ol' possum and glad to have you join us on the Porch!

Y'all take care and have a good weekend!

July 19, 2019 - Msg 112608: Good afternoon, porch. I just got back from seeing my spine surgeon, took him the CD of the CT scan I had on Monday, and as I expected, he says I need ablation on about three nerves. I told him I preferred to fix the problem rather than to just treat the symptom, but he says there is nothing to be done. There is a surgery, a big one, but at my age it probably wouldn't hold up and I'd end up even worse off. I trust him, so ablations will be done. I have an appointment on August 1 with the doc who will do that, after assessing the problem. Old age, indeed, ain't no place for sissies.

You are all so sweet, to take such an interest in my puppy. I very rarely use Facebook, usually when I get an email, sharing something one of my girls thinks I'll enjoy. I guess I need to work on my Facebook savvy. Anyway, anyone on the porch who is interested in being my Facebook friend, just send a friend request and I'll accept. I think I know how to do that!

Blessings, everyone -- Romeena

July 19, 2019 - Msg 112609: Hi Porch!
Everyone be safe out there in the heat.

Possum-Reading your post I found out you are a lady possum. Did not know that. I had quit my job years ago to take care of my mom. My mom has been gone three and a half months now. Sure do miss her so much.

G-F, and the Maude`s have fun on the Meet Up.

MDC, you have fun on your trip.

July 19, 2019 - Msg 112610: Howdy porch! Its the end of a long day but wanted to check in. Just been busy all day and had St. Susan and her family over for supper. I made pizza dough with my mixer and we made pizzas with different toppings. They turned out really good..the crust was crispy and delicious.

I had a nice visit with Matt and he is still doing very well. Romeena, he told me today that he is taking 80mg of Lipitor daily and I told him he needs to be on Coq10. He said the doc never mentioned it but that doesn't surprise me. That is a hefty dose of Lipitor but he hasn't had any symptoms. They still don't know if the clot is still there or has broken down. He is supposed to be evaluated next week. I am just so happy with his change of lifestyle and his attitude. Lord please keep him on the right track!

MDC, I go to see Bruce next week.

Well, time to put the feet up and take a rest. I had one of those nights last night in which I only slept a couple of hours. Im feeling it now!

Blessings,
Boo

July 20, 2019 - Msg 112611: Hey, Boo. Oh my, does Matt ever need to be on CoQ10!! There are still a lot of doctors who don't recognize, or seem to realize, how necessary it is. I still remember, years ago, when a nurse manager I respected suggested it to me, when my ejection fraction was around 40%. I asked my cardiologist about it, he said "it's voodoo, but it won't hurt you. Take it if you like." I started taking it and my next echocardiogrdam showed an EF of 58%, and I was feeling much better. (For those of you who might not know, a normal EF is around 60%.)The doc was impressed and asked me if I was still taking that "voodoo stuff." I said I was, and he said - Don't stop! Now all the partners in that cardiology office put their patients on it. It works! Good for you for advising Matt to take it.

Well, guess I'll hit the ironing board and see if I can get comfortable and get some sleep. Little Trinket is about to fall out, I think she's had a busy day. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

July 20, 2019 - Msg 112612: Hello porch dwellers.

Sounds like it's hot all over the place. Sure has been here. But low humidity, at least right now. Next week we are supposed to get some tropical flow coming from the south. That's when we get the afternoon thunder storms bubbling up.

Boo, glad to hear Matt has stayed true to his new lifestyle so far. I hope he keeps it up. I went to my Doctors yesterday and received my results of my blood work. Everything looks pretty good. Just a tad high on triglycerides so he suggested I watch my carb intake. He didn't feel it was high enough to warrant medication. PSA was about the same as it has been for 10 years running. That makes me happy. Two fellers in my church have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer both were caught early thanks to watching their PSA levels.

Romeena, I sure hope the ablation procedure will at least make your pain decrease. Yep, this old age stuff can be pretty tough some times.

Frankie, You seem to be dealing well with things. I am glad for that. I'm sure your daily Mass visits and your closeness to God is helping a lot.

I worry about my neighbors. I think they are having a real struggle with the loss of their Daughter. They both drink quite a bit and I worry this is going to make it worse. I sure hope not.

Well I think I'll go spend some quality time in my Wheeler. I woke up way early because I thought I heard something outside. Got up and checked stuff and all was well. But I couldn't get back to sleep. And I am dragging my behind around now.

GF and Maude, I sure hope y'all are having a blast at the meet up.

Asa

July 20, 2019 - Msg 112613: Asa, your right my faith has given me the strength to get through all of this. Not sure where I would be if were not for my faith and church.
Prayers for your neighbors.

Flying home Sunday afternoon.
All my best, and all my prayers for you all! :)

July 21, 2019 - Msg 112615: Great news, Asa! May you forever be cancer-free.
I have heard some conflicting research on prostate cancer. Some think it is treated too aggressively, or too early but I have a cousin who had an aggressive form of it about 10 years ago and was lucky to find it early enough. He had to undergo surgery and take hormones but he is fine today. I read, though, that most men have it in their older years but it is so slow-growing that it doesn't need treatment after a certain age.

I worked last night and go in again this afternoon. It was busy yesterday, but pleasantly so. I talked to the new boss yesterday and she said admin is kicking in some money to improve some things in the nursing department already. She also told me that someone had reported us to OSHA but they said they couldn't come and inspect. That doesn't make any sense to me but the fact is that even if they did come and demand changes, there isn't any money to make them. If the deal all goes through with the new buyer, they should be making repairs so I have my fingers crossed. It's still cool, though, so Im not complaining much..not that it would matter. I wish I could share pictures of this place. Its unbelievable. The new boss is going to start sanding down and painting the cabinets and doing the needed cleaning this coming week. The place is such a dump that I don't know how much of a difference it will make but in the words of Briscoe, "More power to ya!".

Got to get ready for work and finish packing. I will check in with you all during the week. Please send up a prayer for safety because it is a long drive tomorrow and no one will be with me to keep me from getting sleepy! I will have my phone and can listen to some TAGS at least.

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112617: Great Weekend at the Meet Up!...More later I’m beat to the socks 🧦...G-F

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112618: Good morning all.

Great to see you back GF. We are eager to hear about your weekend. You gonna spend some time in the old Wheeler to recuperate?

And I hope MDC got home safe from his California trip. If you folks have never been to Santa Barbara, you are missing something. Beautiful area. Just too many oddballs though, at least for me. I bet they say the same about me. lol

Frankie, are they doing your roof yet? I bet you will be glad when it's done.

Boo, prayers for safe travels for sure. If you get feeling drowsy you find a rest area and take a snooze. Like Andy told Mr. Tucker, "don't go breaking your neck." I hope you and Bruce have a nice week.

Best go get the grass mowed. Supposed to hit 104 today here. I know, that's a cool front for MDC, and at about 10% humidity, it's a dry heat for most of you. But it's still dang hot to me. Sure is nice to not have anyone snapping at me because the office is too hot. Don't miss that a-tallll!

Asa

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112619: It's still hot here on the East coast today but we are suppose to get some relief tomorrow, 74 degrees. Asa I'm sure you don't miss those my office is too hot calls. I passed my old office this morning on my way home and I smiled to myself and thought I love being retired. Sarah

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112620: Happy Monday porch, checking in from work.

I made it to the Mayberry meet up this week end and a great time was had by all. It was hot but no rain and everyone managed to have fun. The fellowship of all in attendance was amazing. we were all from different states ( Ohio, GA, IN, NY, CA, TX, AL ... maybe GF can fill in the ones I missed) but all had one thing in common. TAGS. I made some new friends and connected with ones I have met in previous years. I had a good relaxing week end and can't wait til #8 next year.

It has cooled off here and raining today, I hear thunder outside as well,

Supper menu will be: pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, fresh green beans, cinnamon cooked apples, glazed carrots, fresh corn on the cob. yeast rolls. apple cobbler with ice cream for dessert. tea, lemonade or soda to drink

prayers and blessings to all
Big Maude

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112621: Wow, Big Maude, could you set an extra place at the table? A paper plate would be fine, don't go to any trouble. That meal sounds like something my Grandma would have served up! Mercy, that woman could cook!

Boo, sounds like there may be hope for your workplace yet! I surely hope so. Also, my prayers go with you on that trip. Traveling solo can be fun, but it can also be tiring, not to mention a little boring. However, if you just enjoy the scenery, stop in some interesting little place to get something to eat, and have good music or a "talking book" playing, it can be a lot of fun. The drive from here to Fredericksburg is 240 miles for me, takes 4 1/2 hours usually, and I enjoy it. Of course, I always have company. First Sugarplum, then I had Toye Starr, and now I guess Trinket will be going with me.

Speaking of Trinket, we have a little issue with her ears! One has lost its puppy stick-up, and is drooping, as a Maltese ear should do. The left one, however, stands straight up, most of the time! Definitely not true to the breed standard, but you know what? I don't care, nary a bit! She looks so cute with that one ear standing up, I kinda hope it stays that way! It probably won't, most likely it will eventually drop down as her hair gets longer and adds weight to the ear, but right now, it's adorable, in my highly-biased opinion. She is so sweet and precious, and is slowly making progress with the potty training. She performs beautifully when I take her in there, and best of all, she has on several occasions made her own way to the potty box, back in my bedroom, and I find the results later, either a wet spot or a little calling card. That tells me she knows what the box is for, and as soon as she has more control over her bladder, she'll use the box faithfully. (I hope!)

MDC, I'll bet you're home and settled into some comfortable spot to recuperate! So glad you got to have such a nice vacation, but home always looks pretty good too, when you return. I love to travel, but my favorite part is coming home!

Well, guess I'll go scare up something to eat. For some reason, I'm thinking about a bowl of grits! I haven't had grits in quite a while, and love them! Maybe, since it's lunchtime, I'll put a little cheese in them and make them cheese-grits! So good! Blessings, all! --Romeena

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112622: Howdy Porch Folk. I used to drop by here a lot, but that was 18-19 year ago. Time sure does slip by. Just seeing if I recognized any old faces.

AC says Hey

July 22, 2019 - Msg 112623: Hey AC, same here. Been about 18 years since I was a regular rocker on the porch! Didn't have much to say tho. Just recently snuck back in. Bet we've missed a lot. See some familiar faces. Reckon anybody will recognize us?

Ang

July 23, 2019 - Msg 112624: Hi Ang and AC, boy a few of us leave on vacation, and you two sneak in! ha Thanks for stopping by, and next time set for a spell. :)
Well, I am also beat. I got in Sunday night, and slept for 12 hours straight!! I have been facilitating these all-class reunions for 13 years now, and I always said to myself that when they stop being fun, I would bow out. Well, i told the guys that 2020 will be it for me. If someone wants to take over at that point, so be it. If they dont then that will end a good 35 year run total for me and the two guys who did them before me. It was so nice tho this year to have so much more energy with those cow valves in my heart!!!
ASA--ahhh, yes, SB is indeed still pretty 'quaint', sorta like the way that beatnik plays the trumpet! ha The weather was a perfect 70-73 all week! :) Did you know that dennis Miller is a resident there.
Oh Sarah, I am in the Phoenix area, and have been on the porch since 2003. I have taught junior high, worked in graphic art, and have also done office management. Am retired now, and chose MDC as my handle. It stands for Mr. Darling's Cuz.
Hey to Big Maude and Romeena and all! BOO, check in when you can.
GF-- glad the meet-up went well. Thanks for the pic thru email. I see that Clarence Earp also made a showing! What fun!
TAGS tonight was Mayberry Goes Hollywood. Here's how Sweet Afton SHOULD be sung...ha, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8g_NCIdeRE
Well, off to bed... Yawn...MDC...

July 23, 2019 - Msg 112625: Afternoon all.

Great to have you back home MDC and glad you had a good time. I guess I didn't realize this was a reunion type event for you. I do remember Dennis Miller airing from S.B. when he was on O'Reilly's show a few years ago. I love how Mayor Pike tells Andy "we tried to tell them Andy" after the movie producer chewed them all out for turning Hollywood. lol Mayor Pike was a true politician. Stood firmly on both sides of an issue.

Hey to Ang an AC. Seems like I can remember Ang. Hope you both feel welcome.

GF got himself inarculated in his hotel room one night, even though he had the key to fellowship. lol

My goodness Maude, that sounds like a dandy menu. Your Hubby is still in my prayers concerning his employment situation.

Romeena, Trinket sounds delightful with her one floppy ear. You two sound like a perfect match.
Oh an Happy Birthday tomorrow Ro. I hope it's a great one.

July 23, 2019 - Msg 112626: Asa...It was NO Fun when that steel door slammed shut!....G-F

July 24, 2019 - Msg 112627: Hey all! ASA, I didn't think of it but you're right, ROleans a bit due to the rib issue, and Trinket may lean a bit due to the ear issue! ha Just ribbin' you a bit RO.
On TAGS tonite it was the gossippin' men, and I think I noticed a blooper. When it shows all the women folk spreading rumors about Barney over the phones, they are DIAL phones instead the kind to go thru Sarah! Cue this to 1:20... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAUB59eKtnk
I was driving my new truck today when I noticed that my dear missus had mudflaps installed on it whilst I was away! Bless her heart. It looks really sharp. :)
One of our school districts went back to school today, July 23! It is on a 'year-round' schedule! I just cannot cotton to school starting in JULY
for pete's sake. Such goings on.
We are due to get some thunderstorms tonight, but so far it has been a wash.
God's blessings upon all!
MDC

July 24, 2019 - Msg 112628: Good morning all, and Happy Birthday Romeena. I hear she is in her 40's and isn't ashamed to admit it.

MDC, Very astute observation about the dial phone Emma was talking on. You are officially a Trained Noticer now. I always get a good laugh when Andy walks in to the Drug Store with all those women talking and says how happy they look and they must be cutting up somebody good. lol

GF, Did you get deprived of a peanut butter sammich during your lock up? Poor fellow. I can just picture you sitting there, telling yourself, you can just sit here and rot if you want, me, I'm busting out! lol

We are starting to see some of that monsoon flow up this way also MDC. Will bring the temps down some, but brings the humidity up so it doesn't feel so good. Many homes here use evap coolers around here and they ain't worth much when the humidity raises. Glad I went with central air when we built.

State holiday here today, so we are going to Stacey's house for bbq and swimming in their cement pond.

Prayers for all for a good day.

Asa
