Oh, BTW prison ministry went OK today, but I want to tell you something
kinda funny. One of the guys (there were five of us today) wore khaki colored pants
and that is a big no-no because the guards wear that color. Also one can not wear orange, the jumpsuit color, as well as some other restrictions.
The guard at the metal detector told him that there is a Walmart in town, and that
he could go there and buy some pants.
(The 9 prison complexes are near the town of Florence AZ, which is out in the middle of the desert.) The rest of us went in, and about an hour later he came back in some
black pants. But now here's the funny part...there is a small section in that Walmart that has a sign that says "AZ State Prison Approved Clothing!" (We all got a sheet explaining what we can
wear, he just forgot.) But ladies cannot wear anything 'skin tight' or with V necks because they are considered too 'enticing!' Also, no wording like 's#xy lady' etc.
It is those kinds of things one doesnt think too much about in the 'outside' world, but it is truly a whole different world in there. Three weeks ago there was a flu outbreak which i think I mentioned. Well, have a great Sunday afternoon. Looks like VA and TX Tech in the bball game.
Prayers,
MDC

April 08, 2019 - Msg 112024: Female voice: Good afternoon, Shady Rest Hotel

Aunt Bee: Yes, I would like to speak to a Mr. Henry Wheeler

F.V.: What room number maam.

A.B. I don't think he is a guest. I believe he works there.

F.V. I'm sorry, but no one with that name works here. Are you sure you have the right number?

A.B.: Well I only have this one number, and it came in a letter with Shady Rest Hotel stationary. In fact it's a scented letter.

F.V.: That is odd. What scent?

A.B.: It smells like onions.

F.V.: Onions? That sounds like Uncle Joe. He loves onions.

A.B.: What does "Uncle Joe" look like?

F.V.: Well he is a pretty average looking feller. Suffers a lot with lumbago. Noted for his very soft hands.

A.B.: Soft hands you say? Why that sounds like Mr. Wheeler indeed. And he loves his onions. Do you suppose I could speak to him?

F.V.: Sure, it's time he woke up anyway. Hang on.

MDC, Glad you got to the prison to do your ministry. And glad you got out. :) I bet you can't take peanut butter sammiches in with you either. Good for you on your work there.

Supposed to hit 70 here today. Then rain and snow the rest of the week. So if I am going to get anything done outdoors, I better get to it!

April 08, 2019 - Msg 112027: Good morning, porch! It's been a busy weekend, and there's so much to tell you. First of all, Toye Starr. I finally was able to get the phenobarbital that Dr. Mike prescribed for her little seizures. She hates it, but as usual is reasonably cooperative about taking medicine. I have to draw it up in a syringe and squirt it into her mouth. She gags and wiggles, but she swallows it. And (drum roll, please) she has now gone for 48 hours without a wreck-up. Apparently it's working. She seems much more like her little old self, and I'm very hopeful. Thank God!

The party went well on Friday night, thanks to Gary and Elaine. My grandson and his precious wife are just about the cat's whiskers, and there is no way I could have pulled that party off by myself. Friday morning, Gary dragged out every cleaning appliance I have, chose his favorite, and went to work. He polished furniture, vacuumed the sofas and chairs as well as the carpet, used my new and previously unused Bissell Crosswave machine to scrub the kitchen and sunroom floors and cleaned the guest bathroom. Elaine swung into action in the kitchen. She chopped and diced all the veggies, deboned and shredded the meat from two roasted chickens, and if I sat a dirty dish down, she snatched it up and washed it. At 5:15, when the ladies started arriving, the house was sparkling, the casseroles were just coming out of the oven, and we had even sat down and rested for a few minutes beforehand. There is no way on God's green earth I could have done all that alone. Those two worked like happy little dogs all day, and you never heard so much laughter and kidding as went on. They are just amazing.

The ladies ate shortly after they arrived, but the three of us didn't eat. When we started to play, Gary and Elaine loaded the dishwasher and had the kitchen shining. At 8:20, we were finished, the ladies all left, Gary folded up and put away the one card table and chairs we had used (the dining room table and the table in the sunroom finished out the three we needed), he tidied up the room while Elaine and I packed up the second casserole and the garlic bread and put them in the car. We drove out to David and Brittney's, where they were just getting home from Landry's ball game, and we all had chicken casserole and were entertained by a piano concert by Hudson. What a wonderful evening! Saturday morning, they left about noon and flew back to Seattle. I miss them!!

You people are so funny, and so creative! I'm really enjoying the story and can't wait to see what happens with Miss Bee and Mr. Wheeler. Such fun! Keep it going, please. I may or may not participate. As much as I love to write, my inspiration comes from memories, especially childhood memories. I'm not very good at fiction. That has kept me from writing a novel, though I would love to do so. Oh well.... Blessings, friends! --Romeena

April 08, 2019 - Msg 112028: Good Afternoon Porch,
We had Mom`s service this morning. It was hard but I know she is in heaven and in peace. The Deacon gave a wonderful service for her and I gave a talk about her faith in God, and the peace and love in her heart. She was not only full of the Holy Spirit but over flowing with the Holy Spirit and touched so many people around her. I was so happy to have her as a Mother and best friend.

Snowing on my porch this morning. They say the mountains could get a couple of feet with a couple of inches on the valley floors. The biggest problem with that this time of year is usually the snow is very wet and wet equals heavy. A lot of the trees have started to leaf out already. Trees with leaves plus wet heavy snow equals a lot of broken limbs. And also usually a lot of downed power lines.

Frankie, I do pray you are doing ok. Check in when you can.

Romeena, so glad that Toye Starr is responding to the medication. I hope she continues to do well.

MDC, How you aim to drive? lol

GF, How is spring in Ohio buddy? You got all your lawn equipment ready to roll?

I hope Boo is doing ok. Haven't heard from her for a spell.

I would add to the story but my mind is blank this morning. More so than usual if that's possible. :)

April 10, 2019 - Msg 112034: Yes, Spring has FINALLY sprung in Ohio...For at least a couple of days. Stick around it will change!

No I haven’t got my mowing machines serviced yet, but I DID get my planter boxes ready yesterday. I like to break up the dirt and sift all the old roots and squirrel “treasures” out of them. Like I told Romeena, I do this early so the critters can go thru the dirt and realize their Nuts are no longer in there.

This helps so they don’t dig in them once I put the plants in the boxes....Sometimes the best way to out smart a squirrel is to think like one...

I am doing ok. Been very busy getting things in order. My brother has been such a big help and has been here with me. I think he is going to stay here tell the end of the month. We have been doing special things together like going out for rides out of town.

Tomorrow I have a technician coming to the house for a tune up on the central heat and air unit. Thought I should have it serviced before the hot summer hits us.

You all have been so nice and understanding. The porch has given me comfort during this difficult time. Thank you Porch.

BOO-- prayers for you and Shoreline. At least you have the school job as a backup.
RO--you sure have a wonderful family. Glad TS is responding!

OK, I'll try a little more of the story. I like it when 2 shows come together, like the Matlock and DM episode.

Aunt Bee--(Gathering her thoughts) OK, I've talked to Mr Wheeler, tho it is kinda strange that he is now known as Uncle Joe, but he does seem anxious to see me. Barney has made my reservations for the trip to Hooterville, and to stay at the Shady Rest; and I've cleaned Andy's underwear, so I guess I better pack a bag. Oh dear, I just dont know where to begin. Let's see...

OK, all packed and set to go.
ANDY: Now Aunt Bee, you go and have a great time. Caroline, Johnny, Opie, Andicarolie, and I will be just fine, just fine. You know how I like Caroline's leg-o-lamb just about as much as I like yours.
Since Mayberry got the railroad spur, it has sure made the trip to Hooterville much easier. I'll drive you down to the station.

A.B.: (Getting frustrated) No Henry, I don't understand! And quit calling me Shirley!

Henry: Please Bee, be patient. When we get back to Mayberry I can tell you everything. I got us tickets for the Noon train tomorrow. By tomorrow night, we will be sitting on your front porch, enjoying the cool evening breeze, and I will tell you what this is all about. O.K. Bee?

A.B.: Oh Henry, you know just what to say to melt my heart. But just remember this. You better not be leading me along! I have a spoon at home with your name on it! And I know how to use it. Just ask Briscoe Darling.

Oh dear, what will Andy and Caroline think? I think the sooner we get back to Mayberry, the better.
Uncle Joe (Henry)--Yes bee, this place is a bit confusing, I admit. In fact, Ernest T Bass is also living here but he goes by the name of Howard somebody! The Cannonball Express will be here tomorrow, and once we get to Mayberry, all will be OK. I just wanted you to see this place! One nice thing about it though is that I can grow my own onions! April 13, 2019 - Msg 112052: Meanwhile, back in Mayberry, Deputy Barney Fife, driven by feelings of guilt for having almost sent Aunt Bee off to the wrong Hooterville, has convinced himself, and most of the townsfolk that Aunt Bee and Henry will be arriving in town as Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wheeler. So in typical Fife fashion, has been working tirelessly in putting together a surprise Welcome Home/Congratulations to the newlyweds party. He has decided to do this without letting Andy know, so as to surprise Andt as well. He has arranged for the entire town to meet at the Bus Stop at Noon. The Mayberry Band will play a few selections, Josephine Pike will be there to present the couple with a fresh onion, the Women's Auxiliary will present them with 5 different varieties of onion pies, and Floyd Lawson has been commissioned to compose a new version of "Hail to Thee" for the new couple.
Just before Noon, And walks over from the Courthouse to the Bus stop. He is thinking to himself that the town sure is quiet today and wonders where his deputy has been. He hasn't seen him all morning. As he walks around the corner of the drug store he stops dead in his tracks. There is the entire town, gathered at the bus stop. In the background you can hear the band warming up. Andy sees Barney, hurriedly moving people around into just the right place. Then Andy notices the large banner welcoming the newlyweds. It doesn't take Andy but a second to figure out what is going on, and who is behind it all. He rushes over to Barney, and grabs him by the arm and ushers him away from the crowd.
Andy: Barney, will you tell me what in tarnation you're doing!

Barney: Well Andy, I was feeling so bad about those wrong bus tickets, I wanted to make it up to you both. So I decided to throw a wedding reception. Are you surprised?

Andy: Barney, you beat every....
Just then the bus pulls up. The doors open and out steps Aunt Bee and right behind her is Henry Wheeler. The crowd erupts into cheers, confetti is thrown in the air. Floyd rushes up to the couple and proceeds to serenade them with his new song.
All hail to thee Henry and Bee
All hail to thee all hail
You're married now and are as one
may you love never fail
OH HAIL OH HAIL
oh hail oh hail
OH HAIL OH HAIL
oh hail oh hail
Oh hail to thee Henry and Bee
Oh hail to thee oh hail.

Again the townsfolk erupt into applause and cheers.
Aunt Bee gives Andy an astonished look, then a bewildered look to Henry.

Andy steps in front of the couple, and starts yelling for quiet while waving his arms back and forth.

April 13, 2019 - Msg 112053: Good morning, porch! I know I've been a bit scarce lately, but am spending a lot of time just cuddling my little Toye Starr. She is still having the seizures, or her "wreck-ups" as I call them. Somehow giving them a silly name seems to make them seem less threatening. They are less frequent now that she's on her phenobarb, but she still has at least one a day. Occasionally she has a whole day without one. It seems to be taking her longer to recover from one than it did at first. The attack itself, with her screaming so pitifully, only lasts a few seconds, and she hushes as soon as I pick her up. She whimpers a few times, then settles down and snuggles up to me. I just hold her and let her tell me when she's ready to move again. This could take a couple of minutes, or half an hour. It's taking longer, more often. I'm going to call Dr. Mike on Monday to see if he has any more to offer, and if he wants to see her again, and when. This is breaking my heart.

Yep, we've got a big old storm going on right now. There is some strong wind now and then, but nothing strong enough to be damaging, so far. It woke me about 7, with big old growlers passing overhead, and has rained off and on since then, from light sprinkles to a downpour. I haven't been out front to see if my sump pump in the catch basin on the drain line is working, but I'm sure it is, because there's no water standing in the back yard, and there would be if it wasn't being pumped off. It's a shame to pump all that water off, but this yard is flat as a pancake, with a very slight slope toward the street. My sunroom is actually an enclosed patio, not much higher than ground level, and without that drain system back there, it could easily flood. I've been through two pumps, and finally bought that Zoeller, a big one, and it seems to be quite capable of handling the load.

I'm loving the story - we've got some imaginative writers on this porch! Keep it going. So far, I haven't been able to contribute. I know, I write and publish little stories, but they're all firmly based in fact. A little literary license taken now and then, but much more truth than fiction. Maybe I need to work on that.

Well, better go give my baby her medicine. She hates it, but she needs it. I'll hold her for a long time afterward, until she gets over her little "miff" at such a mean mommy. --Romeena

GF, Any suggestions on a battery operated blower for me? I'm in the market for one. I don't have a lot to do, being out in the country, but I do like to clean off the driveway when I'm feeling ambitious. Romeena, I hope Toye Starr is doing better. Is she eating and drinking ok? And doing her duty ok? Poor little thing. I hope you are ok also. We love you too.

GF, I'll give that brand a good look see. I know if you like em, they is got to be good. Any man who can solder like you has my highest respect. My copper "T Man" sits proudly on my mantle place with a bat hanging from him. :)

MDC, So you're living on the edge with those stamp machines, huh? What's next? Trying your luck in the peppermint contests? Those things are rigged you know! lol

April 16, 2019 - Msg 112066: Good morning all.

My goodness MDC, Indeed a tragic event with the Cathedral. Very sad. I had not heard about the tornados. I hope everyone is ok.

Great to see you Frankie. I hope you are doing ok.

Romeena, Is Toye Starr improving at all? I sure hope so.

GF, I plum forgot about the podcast last night. I don't know what I was thinking. How was it?

Well raining here again like crazy. Supposed to do so the rest of today and then dry up and warm up later in the week. We need that. It has been very wet this spring. If we don't have a gentle warm up in the spring, it just turns straight into summer by May or early June and the snow pack in the mountains wants to come all at once and then we have major issues. With our current snow pack at 150% of normal already, we need a nice gentle warm up, and so far that hasn't happened. This last storm dumped 2 more feet in the mountains. Getting a bit worried.

Well I hope everyone has a dandy day,

Asa

April 16, 2019 - Msg 112067: Asa, Actually I missed it too, I was late from babysitting my granddaughter yesterday. I guess I’ll catch it when Floyd posts it later today...

Hope everyone is doing the best they can today, sometimes that all we can do...Supposed to get to almost 80 Thursday.

April 16, 2019 - Msg 112069: Good evening, porch. You cannot imagine how hard this is for me to tell you, but I lost my little Toye Starr last night. She had been playing as usual all day, and ate her dinner around 6, at least most of it. At 10, I gave her the Phenobarb and held her for a minute or two to let her settle down, as she hates the med and struggles with me (so much for lapping it from a spoon). When I put her on the floor, she took three steps, cried out and fell on her side, onto my foot. I picked her up and knew immediately that this was a bad one. She wasn't screaming, just softly whining, and was completely limp. I carried her to my chair, gathered her in my lap, where she whined a few more times, then stopped and her breathing became very ragged. Another minute, and she was gone. I was holding her, talking to her, and she just left.

She soiled herself, as is common at death, and had thrown up when I picked her up in the kitchen. So I took her to my bathroom and cleaned her up the best I could with a washcloth, wrapped her in an old soft sleepshirt of mine, with pink roses on it, and took her back to our chair. I sat there all night, holding her, never slept, and once I knew people were awake, I notified the family. David had a dental appointment this morning in Irving, so came here immediately after. He took us to Dr Mike's office, where Mike will handle the arrangements for her cremation. I should receive her little box of ashes on Friday. I'm not a fan of cremation, but reason tells me that it won't be very long, a couple of years maybe, before I'll have to leave this big house, and I don't want her buried out back where she could be disturbed. I did that with Sugarplum, but that was 12 years ago and I had a different perspective at that time.

So, I'm here alone tonight, am sure to sleep as I haven't slept in 38 hours, and my eyes are swollen from crying. David stayed with me all afternoon, but at 6 he had to go to his own family. One of the boys has a ball game. The house is so empty, and I haven't moved any of her things, still stepping over toys. All in good time, I guess.

Bless you, dear friends. You have seen me through thick and thin, and now I need your prayers once again. I miss that little girl, my heart is breaking. That's just the way I felt when I lost my dear little Plum, but then Toye Starr came and made my world bright again, and I can only believe that the same will happen again. I can't replace her, she's irreplaceable, but a new little spirit can come in and make a place for herself. Hearts do stretch in that regard, thank God. Blessings, all of you. --Romeena

April 16, 2019 - Msg 112070: Hi Porch,
Doing OK here, been busy taking care of things.
My brother purchased a lemon tree for me. He knows how much I like lemons. We found the perfect spot for it in the back yard. It has blossoms on it already and is a self pollinating tree. I am hoping it does good.

Was shocked to the Cathedral fire on TV. But it looks like they were able to save some special relics.

April 17, 2019 - Msg 112078: Romeena, I’ve have always wondered, I should have asked before, how did you come up with Toye Starr’s name?

G-F

April 17, 2019 - Msg 112079: Romeena , I hate to worry you with this on top of everything you are dealing with, but you should know that your Facebook Messenger has been hacked. I got a message last night ,supposedly from you, greeting me by name. I wrote back to express my condolences about Starr. Got a reply thanking me and asking how I've been. "You" then asked me if I had received any info from a specific agency that oversees grants and informed me that you noticed my name on the list and that you just received a check from them for $250,000. At that point, I smelled a rat and questioned if it were you. I asked you to provide me with the nickname of one of our Porch friends. No problem, IF it were really you! Well, I got a reply saying that I really had a "doubting mind." I came back with, well, prove me and my doubting mind wrong and answer me! "You" replied "Okay" and the next thing I got was a lot of vulgar and vile talk. I tried to message back to let this creep know that I was going to report them to FB,but they had closed out the message gizmo by then. I DID report it to Facebook, and they may be contacting you. I'm fine, but just hate that someone hijacked your Messenger. All I know is they used a phone to do so. Maybe Facebook can get to the bottom of this. I would disable Messenger and re-install if you plan on using it,Ro. Again, I'm sorry to dump this on you,but you needed to know that someone is using your name and Facebook profile to contact your friends and spew vile remarks at them.

possum again

April 17, 2019 - Msg 112080: BTW, the initial message was sent last night around 7pm,and the rest of the conversation with this impersonator just took place about a half hour ago.

possum once more

April 17, 2019 - Msg 112081: Well, let me take the trash out first, then I'll come back and chat. Possum, thank you for the heads-up about Messenger. Actually, I had a long phone conversation with a friend I haven't seen in several years, because she moved away. Same story as yours, only in her version I had received $350,000. I told her if it had really happened she would have me whooping and celebrating across the miles that separate us. She knew, as you did, that it hadn't actually come from me. Actually, I've never even used Messenger, not even sure how it got on my phone. Probably one of my kids or grandkids put it there. I've got a call in now for David to talk me through wiping it off my phone. What is wrong with these people, that they have nothing better to do than harass people they don't even know, with a lot of useless, and often filthy, communication? Grrr. I really don't feel like messing with this right now, but guess I'd better, before everyone thinks I'm either a crook or have lost my mind. Blessings, friends. --Romeena
