Frankie

August 31, 2018 - Msg 110550: Good Friday afternoon all.

Frankie, good of you to sweep. You did real a nice job.

Romeena, I am sorry to read Toye Starr is feeling punky. I pray it is nothing to serious. I enjoyed reading your description of her devotion to the mail being delivered. Very funny. Reminds me of a neighbor we had a few years ago. They had a Golden Lab and she had this thing she would do in their back yard. She would look in the back door window into the house, then turn and walk down to one corner of the yard, back along the fence, then back over to the back steps, up the steps, look in the window at the door again, and repeat. And she would do this sometimes for hours. She had actually wore a slight path in the grass from her little walk about. I don't know what was the oddest, her doing that or me sitting on my patio watching her. lol Them critters can be funny with all their little quirks. Sure am glad I don't have any. :) Prayers for Toye Starr.

Glad your back safe and sound MDC. Now you can get the valve job done and you will be good for many more years buddy.

Boo, I am thinking (more like hoping) we may be done with the 80's here for the year. The 7 day forecast this morning has everything at 85 or lower all week. We could still hit a 90 here or there, but the blazing summer heat is pretty much over for us. I guess the silliest episode for me was the one when Howard quits his job and goes to the island. But the closing scene of that episode makes up for it. It shows all the fellers sitting around at the service station drinking a soda pop, and the look of utter contentment on Howards face says it all.

GF, I should be done with the peach pickin by tonight or tomorrow for sure. They sure are good eatin. A fresh ear of corn smothered in butter, and a nice peach to complete it. Man, that's some good eatin!

Well it's the end of the month. I need to get some reports completed, and then I'm off for 4 days. Yea baby.

Prayers for all.

August 31, 2018 - Msg 110552: Romeena, Sorry to hear about you furry partner, hope she feels better soon!
MBM..l hope Romeena’s book helps you...I TRUELY believe some things are NOT coincidences...If her book helps you understand things better it was a “Godwink”....

God-wink. Noun. (plural God winks) An event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that it is seen as a sign of divine intervention, especially when perceived as the answer to a prayer.

August 31, 2018 - Msg 110553: Evening Porch: G-F, I agree 100%. I was thinking the exact same thing earlier. God does things in his time frame. He could have done this 14 years ago if he choose. Amazon says I’ll be receiving it Monday. On Labor Day I thought? That’s Amazon for you. They’re pretty trustworthy. So I expect it to be here. Btw ROMEENA, Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary of “A Flat of Petunias”. (August 11, 2017). Medwin Bill Medwin

August 31, 2018 - Msg 110554: Good evening, porch, and especially to you MBM. I'm happy that you ordered my little book, and I hope it will be of some help to you. Fourteen years is a long time, but I know at times it seems like yesterday. At least that's how it is for me. That's a good thing actually. It fits right in with where I am now, emotionally. He no longer seems "gone" to me, but rather it feels like he has just stepped into another room, and in God's timing, I'll follow him there. I will pray for you, as you read, that God will speak comfort to you.

Thanks for the good wishes for Toye Starr, everyone. Dr. Mike thinks she's getting arthritic, and is in the middle of a flare-up. Her little kneecap (did you know dogs have kneecaps?) on her right back leg seems to slip out of place (patellar subluxation) and this can be painful. He gave me some pain medication for her, she'll get it once a day, and I can stop it if she doesn't seem to need it, start it again if she has more symptoms. Poor little thing, I can't stand to see her hurting, but she's so brave about it. She keeps moving, doesn't cry or whine, but definitely asks to get in my lap whenever I settle down somewhere.

Well, guess I'll go find some supper. It won't be much, I'm not very hungry. Maybe just a little can of soup, and some watermelon later on. Toye Starr will share the watermelon, she loves it. --Romeena

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110555: BILL, I purchased Ro's book a while back. It is a very good read. She is a great writer. I have not had such issues, but it was still good! Your finding it HERE reminds me of those "His Mysterious Ways" articles in Guideposts. :)
BOO--Pics are now on my FB page. The silliest ep for me is the Citizen's Arrest. To see Barney so mad was upsetting. I dont even like to watch that one to be honest. It even ends with Gomer still chasing Barney.
ASA--good for you to get some time off! Hope some of it will include your wheeler. We are still in the 100s here, usually till 3rd week of Sept or so.
RO--prayers for Toy Starr. Sure hope the vet found out the problem.
God's blessings on all,
MDC :)

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110556: Yes, MDC, I saw your pics after I got home from work last night. So glad you had a good time. Both you and Cecile look good and rested.

Couldn't wait to check the porch last night to see how Toye Starr is doing and what Dr. Mike had to say. Poor little girl having arthritis! Seems like just yesterday she was a puppy and you were picking her up from the breeder. Time flies here on the porch, for sure. Hope the meds help the little thing and she is back to normal soon.

Well, the episode I think is really the silliest is the gold truck episode for several reasons. First, I don't believe Andy would have told Barney about the gold truck coming to Mayberry until the last minute (for obvious reasons), and then he tells him at the end of the ep that the truck actually went to Raleigh and tells him that info is top-secret. Barney immediately tells Juanita and Andy catches him. No disciplinary action at all. I would have done something to teach him a lesson. Secondly, why on earth would the whole town get so excited about a gold truck driving through? They acted like the president himself was coming to town. Kind of dumb. Thirdly, Gomer sticks the gas nozzle into the gold truck and pumps in a lot of gas while Barney is in there. Barney would have been coming out of there in a hurry with all those fumes and they would have had to clear out the contents of the truck and not drive it until it was cleaned up, but they act like its no big deal. That whole scene was just too ridiculous and should have been left out, in my opinion. Also, it was really a stretch to believe Andy would have put Barney in there in the first place. Aunt Bee would have been a safer choice than Barney. lol

MBM, I am very sorry to hear that your wife passed away at 45. I can't even imagine what you have been through. I believe Romeena's book will be a blessing for you. I love her book. Reading about the passing of Dale was very painful for me and I cried a lot, but maybe because it is really so difficult to read an account of something so painful happening to someone you love. The book is really a comfort in so many ways, though, and just good, wise advice from our Romeena (no surprise there). MBM, thank you for sharing your pain with us. It is a privilege to be here for you.

Ro, I love the way you describe your feelings in your comment above..not like he is gone, but waiting in another room. I have very similar feeling about my parents and friends who have been gone for awhile. It is a blessing. Now I just have to help my friend, Cynthia get through what she is going through. It seems she is getting ready, at least that is how she seemed the last time I heard from her. She had to move to Austin to be close to her doctor and her son. I am going to plan a trip soon to see her and hopefully she will be able to go places with me. She really wants to take me to some of the great vegan food trucks and restaurants they have in Austin. I am praying we can.

Asa, I actually like the ep with Howard that you mentioned. It is weird for mayberry, but I like the message and I think the scenes in the little island store are very funny..."wanna buy a ship in a bottle?". LOL

Well, tomorrow is my anniversary (24 years) but I am working so Bruce and I are going to go do something today. We will probably make a little road trip somewhere and look in some shops. Hope you all have a great day.

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110557: Good afternoon, porch. Good news -- Toye Starr is carrying her little tail plume high and wagging! She's feeling much, much better, hops up and down the step from the living room to the rest of the house like a tiny pink-eared gazelle! Thank you all for your prayers and concern for my little furkid. That's just one thing I love about the porch - we all seem to be on the same page with regard to our pets.

Thank you also for the kind words about my book. It was written at the urging of God, and intended to offer some help and encouragement to other people who are walking that dark path. I can only hope that it can be useful and helpful to anyone who needs it.

Well, Toye Starr has nosed my ankle about three times, I think she's ready to cuddle for a little while. I guess I'll just have to go get in my chair and make a lap for her for a little while. Life is hard, sometime! --Romeena

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110558: Good Saturday all.
Been a productive day for me. Got up early and did my grocery shopping. Came home and finished my peach pickin. There were some that wasn't fuzzed up completely GF, but I was seeing a lot of them succumbing to that gravitational pull theory, and I hate to see that. And I just ain't got the time to go out each day and pursue the fully ripe ones. So they all got picked. I figured if they fall off they ain't any good to anyone, and as Andy said, wasting food is a sin. And I am just giving them away to neighbors and friends so I figure if they don't like their peaches unless they are fuzzed up good, and so they throw them out, well then the sin is on their head. 10-4? :)

Romeena, Glad that Toye Starr situation isn't worse. Hopefully the meds will help her to feel better. I wonder if steroids might help her when she has a flare up. I know that's what they gave Sammy when he hurt his back and was unable to walk. It helped him a lot. Just a thought.

MBM, So sorry for your loss. That has to be very difficult. Way to young.

Boo, It seemed to me by the later years they were having a challenge coming up with story lines for the show. And as Opie grew older, and some folks left the show (Don Knotts, Betty Lynn, and for me Joanna Moore lol) it just seemed to lose the original feel it had in the earlier years. Oh well, nothing stays the same forever I reckon.
Happy anniversary to you and Bruce Boo. I hope you have a nice day celebrating.

GF, I have been having an issue with my riding mower the last few years going through deck belts. It has been very frustrating, but last week I took the deck off and went through it with a fine tooth comb, and I think I found the problem. A bracket that holds an idler pulley looked to be bent. So I unbent it, and welded a piece to it to stiffen it up, and I think it did the trick. I mowed this morning with nary a problem. Makes a body feel good when he can remedy an annoying thing like that, don't it? That will be one thing I will miss when I retire. I have been the "go to guy" when it comes to rigging fixes to equipment. I hope that don't sound like I'm bragging. Well maybe I am a little. lol But I have so little to brag about, I like to make the most of it when I can.

Well off to do laundry. All in all it's a fun day~

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110559: Hello Porch: BOO, ROMEENA, MDC, G-F, ASA, and all the Porch Rockers, thank you for your concern about my wife’s passing. It is what you might call a hit below the belt. Still hurts. It was the one and only time I actually fell to my knees crying. Romeena’s book is in transit. Amazon says tomorrow. Mail on Sunday? Who knew. Boy have times changed. I actually have had Amazon packages delivered on Sunday in the past. It feels strange having packages delivered on Sunday. I’m thinking because it’s Gods day so to speak. Idk. Just sayin. I wonder how Billy Ray the Postman feels about these changes. ASA, nice job on the mower repair. Otherwise it’s just a nice lazy Saturday for me. I could go for a little Leonard Blush. But it’s not the third Tuesday of every month. Have a great day Porch friends. MBM

September 01, 2018 - Msg 110560: Speaking of lawn mowers,Asa, guess who gets to use the Bad Boy this evening? I am just waiting for it cool off a bit and then I am going to get after it.

Bruce and I had lunch and then took a drive, looked in a couple of antique shops but didn't have a lot of luck. I did find and old children's book and the cutest little vintage plastic Santas (probably from the 70's), that fit over twinkle lights. Really cute! I will find a place for them in my decorating this year. I have an antique cabinet with a glass front that my dad refinished when I was a girl. I think I will fill it with lights and my old snow globes this year and somehow drape the santa lights along the top.

I am going to take my sisters-in-law to see their mom in the nursing home this week so I need to go do some laundry and get some things done before going back to work tomorrow. Its a five hour drive to get there so we have to stay overnight. I just hope there is no drama. Sister-in-law was in the behavioral hospital this month getting off the meds so she is sober right now. I figured it was the time to go. There is no way she can afford to go herself and really cant drive herself that far so I am taking her. I know her mom needs to see her and I want her to see her before she is high on something again. Sad situation.

Asa, you made me laugh with your comments on peaches and sin. :) You can always make me laugh. By the way, you still working part-time dancing at the Gigolo Club in Yancey?

MDC, I don't care for the citizen's arrest ep because I feel that it is just too painful to see Barney treating Andy that way. Just seems out of character.

Better get a move on!

Thanks for the kind words MDC. My Boss says he really will be sad to see me retire. Kinda makes me feel good. Hopefully he ain't just saying it for that reason. lol

MBM, I actually welded the mower part old school. I used an oxy-act torch on it. It was only 1/8" sheet metal, and I can control the puddle better with the torch than I can with a stick or wire feed welder.

Frankie, glad you had a nice visit with your Nephew. I hope your Mom is still doing well. So I guess the A's will have the stadium to themselves when the Raiders make the move to Vegas. That sure sounds weird. The Las Vegas Raiders. That's gonna take some time. To bad the City and the team couldn't work out their differences, although I feel these ball clubs should be financing their own stadiums. But that's another topic.

Romeena, glad to read that Toye Starr is responding so well to her medication. Good to hear. How does she deal with Sundays and Holidays when no mail gets delivered? Or do you sneak out the back door and go around front and slip a letter or two in the slot just to appease her? lol, Go ahead and confess. :)

Thanks for the anniversary wishes, ASA, and your comments about nurses. Honestly, working yesterday was easier than being at home. It was nice and cool in the office because it had been a rainy weekend, and I worked alone and things were very calm. I only had one incident to deal with, which was an easy one. Today I will be busy here at home with chores and grocery shopping, going to go ahead and get most things ready for my trip on Thursday, since I have to work the next two days.

Not a lot of news. We are all home today on Labor Day but nothing fun planned.

September 03, 2018 - Msg 110572: Good morning, porch, and a happy Labor Day to one and all. It's cloudy here, and the air is very still, hardly a leaf moving on the trees. Looks like a good day for a rainstorm. The weather is certainly giving every indication of some plans along that line. Also, I've only seen one squirrel and just three or four birds this morning, and that's usually a good sign of some drastic weather on the way. I hope so, we could use some rain. Actually, a lot of rain would be nice.

On Saturday, I had a/c troubles. Just what I needed. Normally I would call David, who is well along in his informal apprenticeship to his FIL, Jerry, and will probably take the test and get his HVAC license before long. He can fix just about anything, and just calls Jerry when he gets stumped, but unfortunately, he and Brittney and the boys had gone with some friends to spend the weekend at the friends' lake house. So, I called Jerry. At first he suspected it was the capacitor (whatever that is) but soon found out different. It seems that right where the wiring enters the house, a rat had been chewing, and the wire was stripped and partially chewed. There wasn't enough "stub" to tie into, so he had to go into the attic to reach the wire up there. Jerry is my age, and happily, he had sense enough not to crawl the length of the house on the rafters to access that wire. He called a young man who helps him at times, and he did the attic part. All is well now, house is cool, and the wires are all new and protected. Ah, the joys of home ownership!

The young man who came to help Jerry happened to mention that he has a friend who is part of a team that does the TNR (trap, neuter, release) program for feral cats. I told him I wouldn't mind at all if they released a cat or two in this neighborhood. I'm getting pretty tired of the rats. They never come into the house, but they do get in the garage now and then, and now they're chewing a/c wires! Here, kitty, kitty, kitty!!

MDC, thank you for your concern for Toye Starr. Apparently it's arthritis and a subluxing kneecap on the right back leg. It slips in and out of place, and is painful when it's out. Our Bentley, may he rest in peace, had the same problem, and the vet showed Brittney how to put the patella back in place. Bentley soon learned how to stretch his leg out and it would go back in place that way. We'd see him wince and limp a little, then stop and stretch that leg out, then go trotting away, all fixed. I wish my baby would learn to do that. I'll have to get Dr. Mike to show me how to put it back in place. It may be a little harder on her tiny leg than it was with Bentley. Her little leg bones are about the size of a pencil.

Wow, the sky is getting very dark, and I only see one critter out back. They've all holed up somewhere, I guess. I really hope we get some rain out of this. Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

September 03, 2018 - Msg 110573: Asa, you asked how Toye Starr deals with the days when there's no mail delivery scheduled? She goes in to her usual place beneath the mail slot, and sits there, until I realize what she's doing. Then I just say, "Baby, there's no mail today. No mail." She seems to understand, because she'll leave her post and return to me, but casts little glances back at the front door for a while. She's such a little delight. You know, I think back years and years ago, to the time when my dogs lived outside, before I became "enlightened." Hey, it's the way I was raised, and it took a while to work through that! Anyway, I know now that those dogs were just as smart, just as sweet and loving as the ones who have shared my home and slept on my bed for the last forty years. I can't believe I actually kept them outside. Oh, they were well fed, had snug little houses and all, and the kids played with them every day. Still, I grieve for what I missed in those early years, and what they missed, and I owe those sweet little friends a very big apology. I hope I get to deliver it. --Romeena

September 04, 2018 - Msg 110578: Good morning all my porch peeps.

MDC, You have my motto down pat! lol I think GF is one of us too. Last night on the podcast GF posted he had "performed no labor on Labor Day", to which someone replied "so just another regular day for you". lol I remember seeing me on the Fugitive. It stands out because that is the only time I remember seeing the actor (Charles Thompson) in anything but TAGS. Speaking of TAGS folks I saw Otis' brother on an episode of Adam-12 last night. Sadly his drinking has gotten the best of him. He had hit a sidewalk Santa over the head with a lead pipe (on Christmas Eve no less) and stole all the donations he had collected and then went to the nearest bar and got a snootfull. Malloy and Reed got him though. But as they were taking him into custody, the Santa attacked the guy, so Malloy and Reed had to arrest the Santa as well. I tell ya, it's a jungle out there. BTW, the Santa was the same feller who tried to steal Mrs. Mendlebrights purse. It was nice to see that at least he was trying to earn an honest living.

Romeena, glad you got the a/c issue resolved. That was a good bit of troubleshooting that Jerry did it sounds like. Them varmints can sure be a problem. I remember a number of years ago I had a neighbor call me and ask if I could help him with an electrical problem. The summer before he had run an electrical line out to a barn. He was only running a couple of lights so he had just run some direct burial cable underground to it. Now, the breaker it was hooked too kept tripping out. Well I disconnected all the wiring on both ends of the underground run and checked it with my ohm meter, and saw a direct short on the underground cable. I asked him if he had done any digging or driven any stakes or anything in the ground, but he swore he had not. He said he had not gone very deep with the run. I could only guess that maybe a mouse or other rodent had gnawed through the cover somewhere. So we ended up running an entire new homerun out to the barn. I suggested this time to go a little deeper and to run a conduit to it. All ended well.

Boo, I was thinking what MDC posted about nurses, so I should get half credit. lol (even though you mocked my dancing at the "club") lol

Well I did some stretching yesterday afternoon and it seems I stretched myself back into place with my back. I was doing some quad stretches and when I got done. walla, my back pain disappeared!! Made me a happy camper I tell ya. :)

It is still hot as blazes here, but that isn't unexpected. It seems that the first week in September is often the hottest of the year here in south texas. I did notice a difference in the temperature this morning when I took Erin to school..the morning temps are starting to get a little cooler now. It wont be long until we have a little front that will cool things off about 5 degrees and then be back in the 90s by noon. lol. Oh well.

Better scoot...have to work this evening but that's fine with me. I get more rest there than at home, lately. See ya'll later!

September 04, 2018 - Msg 110585: Good afternoon, all. Well, Ted was back at 7 this morning, to get more done on the painting. His MIL passed last Wednesday, was buried on Friday, and now he's back at work. He had been here and painting for two hours before I even knew it! He works quickly, cleanly, efficiently and quietly. And reasonably! He breaks at 11:30 for lunch and we sit in the sunroom and eat and solve the world's problems, and then he goes back to work for another hour or two, then quits for the day. His knees have had about all they can take by then, bless his heart. He needs both knees replaced, but can't afford the $12,000 deductible on his insur@nce, especially when he would be not working for a couple of months. He's a little young for Medicare, but in about three years, I think, he'll have it. Then maybe he can get those knees fixed.

Right now, the Spectrum cable guy is here, replacing the wire from the pole to the house. They replaced all the main cables a few weeks ago, and my internet service improved noticeably, but they didn't replace the individual service lines. My landline phone, which is in that package, gets interrupted every now and then, and they think it's a squirrel-chewed line, so he's replacing it. No cost to me, can't beat a deal like that.

It's hot here, too, and sticky. The air is heavy, makes it hard for me to breathe. I'm pretty much staying in the house. I pulled a few weeds this morning, but didn't make even a tiny dent in what needs to be done. I just can't do it anymore, and that really annoys me.

I love to take care of my yard, I want to do it, it needs to be done, and all I can do is wish I could do it. Physically, I just can't. Grrrr! I tried, pulled for about fifteen minutes, had sense enough to know when to quit. Now I'm going to get in my chair with a big cold glass of tea and a small warm puppy, and let my strength catch up a little. Blessings, y'all! --Romeena

September 05, 2018 - Msg 110590: I have a curious question...Has anyone else been bombarded by YouTube videos about dealing with clogged condensation tube on you A/C units?... I find it odd since we have been talking about Romeena’s problem with hers. I know they “Spy” on us when we Google search something, but this is not the case here, I have not Googled anything on the subject...
I find it more than coincidence....But on the other hand, it HAS been very hot and humid here in Ohio lately, so maybe they are just providing a “public service announcement?”....

Curious....Curious.....G-F

September 05, 2018 - Msg 110591: Good morning, porch! No, G-F, I haven't gotten any of those emails you asked about, but I would highly recommend that people watch a couple of them and do whatever they say. I've been advised by Jerry (David's FIL) to pour a little bleach into the vertical pipe that leads to the sewer, to kill any algae that may be forming in it. Also, baking soda followed by some vinegar, and then quickly wrap a towel or something around the top of the pipe and hold it firmly in place, to force the "boiling" action that occurs downward instead of up and out of the pipe. The nearly horizontal PVC pipe from the a/c to the sewer drain is harder, because you only have that little access window at the top of the pipe, the one that David used to blow out the obstruction that caused all my problems. I guess you could pour a little bleach in it. You probably have some even better ideas - if so, please share.

I just had the strangest experience! A big bird flew into my back yard, planning to raid my fish pond. It wasn't a great egret, like before. This one was smaller, less than half the size of the egret, and it was gray. I can't find him in my bird book. It's a small heron of some kind, but I'm not sure what he is. Anyway, he strolled over to the pond, was a little puzzled by the chicken wire cover I have over it, but was trying to get his beak through anyway! That's when I threw the back door open, and yelled at him. I expected him to fly, like the great egret had done, but he just stood and looked at me. I walked to within fifteen feet of him, and he just turned and walked away from me. Folks, I chased that stinkin' bird in a big circle, completely around my yard - TWICE! I threw a stick at him, I was yelling at him, threw a rock at him, and finally, halfway through the third pass around the yard, he flew up on the roof, and just stood there. I threw another rock, and he calmly walked up to the highest ridge on the roof, and just stood there.

Well, I'm about 98% sure he can't get through the wire on the pond, and I was totally and completely out of oxygen an seeing stars, so I came back in the house, turned my O2 concentrator on, and am feeling fine now. I never saw such an audacious, bold and fearless bird in all my life! He was not the least bit scared of me, and I had to be a scary sight - a fat, wrinkled old gray-haired woman chasing him at a walking pace (I can't run), waving her arms and yelling? That would scare me!

Well, guess I'll go feed my little pink-eared friend. She's waiting patiently, and I've recovered from being out of breath. Blessings, everyone. Have a great day! --Romeena

September 05, 2018 - Msg 110592: Me again. Regarding the a/c drain treatment - be sure you never use bleach and vinegar at the same time. Mixing the two will result in chlorine gas, which is highly toxic and dangerous. Bleach combined with ammonia will release chloramine vapor, which is toxic. In fact, a good rule of thumb is "when in doubt, don't." Just don't mix chlorine bleach with anything acidic, and you're safe. You can mix bleach and baking soda, since the soda is alkaline. The two combined in a load of laundry work great. That's what I use along with detergent, to wash my dish towels. --Romeena

September 05, 2018 - Msg 110594: Romeena...Another thing that will help with the condensation gunk is chlorine tablets that you put in your condensation tray (if you can get access to it....

Asa, you have any luck with those?..I used them a lot on these small Geothermal P-tac units I had in one of my Senior Hi-Rise buildings...

I’m lucky my A/C drain connects to a hose that runs to my sump pump pit. At the end of the season I just hook the hose to my laundry tub faucet and SHAZZAM I blow it clean with hot water and a tad of bleach....

Romeena...That Bird MUST have been from SOMEWHERES ELSE or he’d known NOT to mess with you!....lol

September 06, 2018 - Msg 110595: RO--dont take this wrong, but perhaps the bird had a injured wing or something, maybe a bad petula oblongada? Just wondering.
GF, my ac unit is all on the roof, no air exchanger
in the attic etc. Condensation pipe just runs down the roof to the back gutter. It is a gas-pac, heater is also part of the unit. Nice, real nice. :)
HEY TO SPOT!! Aint it funny how this retirement thing works? How did i ever do all this before?? ha
Frankie, howdy right back at ya.
ALL: I've been watching some of the court nomination hearings. It is really despicable that these
paid protesters keep shooting off their mouths.
Seems like our whole system of govt is going down.
Well, hang in there my friends.

September 06, 2018 - Msg 110599: Good Night Porch and New Neighbor
Frankie

September 07, 2018 - Msg 110600: Well, I'm sorry to hear that Burt Reynolds has passed. I enjoyed his movies, mostly, and am sorry he's gone. I can only hope that he was prepared for this. Whenever I hear of the death of a rich and famous person, a scripture pops into my mind. Luke 12:20-21 says: 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. I don't mean that in a judgmental way, because I have no idea what the relationship was between Burt and God, and only God can be his judge. It's just something that comes to my mind and causes me to check my own spiritual temperature.

It comes to my mind at other times too, such as when I attend an estate sale. There you will see the material summary of someone's life, all the things they held dear, just spread out in a huge display, for sale. Most of the stuff we hang onto, our kids don't want or don't have room for, because they're filling their homes with "things" of their own choosing. My own home is filled with things I've collected and accumulated in my life, and which have deep value and meaning to me, but will never mean as much to anyone else. There are, of course, some exceptions to that, some things that my children value as much as I do, and maybe more, or they will come to do so when I leave this world. I have some items which were my mom's, that I suddenly saw with new eyes after she passed.

Last Christmas, at the suggestion of one of my daughters, instead of buying Christmas gifts for each of my children, I asked them to think of something of mine that they would like to have and tell me. I promised I would tell them if it was something I wasn't ready to give up yet, but would honor their request if I comfortably could. It was amazing to see what they chose, and in each case, it was something I was perfectly willing to part with, knowing they would treat it with respect. I think we may do that again this year, as it was actually a lot of fun, and I knew that each child was receiving something they truly wanted.

Well, I'm off to dreamland. Actually, I'm off to watch "Barney Miller" for the next hour, and then drift off. Blessings, friends. --Romeena
