Claude Sr., Claude Jr., Plain Claude, and Claudette. And they all have that Beemen over bite. Ha! I love Andy's counsel to Opie after Opie hollers out what the sermon is about, Andy tells Opie that Bible knowledge is a fine thing, but he ought not flaunt it! Great advice.
So after mentioning Newharts wife yesterday, I went on line to read more about her. Mary Flann. I was stunned to read she passed away in the late 90's from a heart attack. She to me seemed to have that classic beauty look about her.
Boo, so sorry you got hooked up with a bad sprinkler guy. Hopefully he at least does quality work. I imagine you will be glad to get some grass growing. It is interesting how the grass selection varies in the different areas of the country. I know down in your neck of the woods Bermuda grass is the grass of choice because it can handle the intense heat y'all get. But here in Northern Utah, we detest the stuff. Mainly because it is dormant in cooler weather. We typically don't get warm enough here until June to get it to green up. And by late August it is going dormant again because of cooler nighttime temps. So we tend to go with Kentucky Blue grass here. It struggles a bit in the July heat we gat, but does well other wise.
Our Pizza party went well. Grandkids had fun and the house is still standing, so it's all good. :)
Another actor that was on TAGS later shows up in Dallas. He is the Ewings lawyer, Horace Smithfield. I believe he was on two different TAGS episodes. He was one of the fake FBI fellers. Well actually he was the fake newspaper photographer who took Andy and the fake FBI agents picture. Then he was one of the con men peddling the Miracle Salve. George Petrie was his name I believe.
Well I best go rustle up some breakfast before preachin or my belly will be growling.
Prayers for all.

Hey there!
How's everyone today? It's warm with rain coming in today.
Asa- So which wife are you talking about- the one from The Bob Newhart Show (brunette) or Newhart (blonde)? I think the blonde wife was just gorgeous.
MDC- I would imagine those stockings wouldn't be too comfortable in Phoenix heat. Still, it doesn't sound as bad as it could've been. My sister has something similar. She had her vericose veins removed and she's had nothing but trouble since then. But if she didn't have them removed there would have been a blood clot. She has swelling in her lymph nodes from them. I hope PT and the socks help!
Sterling- I love that your son enjoys Newhart. My son liked it at Noah's age too.
G-F- Sounds like a fun day!
Boo- Hope you get some rest tonight and your sprinklers are working soon.
Tom- Did you have a nice vacation? I'll watch out for Asa and G-F. Haha!
Big Maude- Is your family excited about The Predators?
Spot- Rain's coming. Are y'all ready?
On 60 minutes last night they were talking about how app companies create apps that are designed to make you addicted. It was sad but funny because twice my husband lifted up his phone to talk about how the anti-Christ will come through there and both times he went on Facebook. Y'all have a good rest of the day!

Hello Porchsters. I was at a church meeting tonight, at Bob Evans. After we got done discussing business, we had an interesting discussion about why people are not interested in church, in general. We kind of all agreed people know something is wrong with their own life, and something is wrong with the world in general. And we agreed they'd want to know what to do about it. But one fellow said that once you bring the word "God" into it, all of a sudden they don't want to know any more. I had never thought of it in those terms, but I think he was right.

Good Morning!
The Mr. finally had time to take the car back to the mechanic. There's 2 oxidative sensors out and the throttle body needs to be replaced for a whopping $1200. Mr. did some research and found that oftentimes it's the wiring and when the body is replaced it will go back out again. So, he's going to start looking for another car and do all of the driving. I told him I will not be stranded on the side of the road again so he can drive us. He had to get up super early this morning so I imagine he will be purchasing sooner than later. Ha!
Possum- Thanks for the reminders of Gomer's birthday!
John Masters- Good luck with the computer.
G-F & Tom- I've not heard of that show! I'm at work but will watch the link after I get home tonight.
Billy- I grew up in Christian schools where we had chapel and prayers were frequent until my last 2 years of high school. I noticed a huge change in the attitudes of the student body in the public school. My mother said it's because they took the prayers out. She is absolutely right. I think people became angry when that happened (I wasn't born then but Mom was.)
Poor Horatio- Nice to "see" you! Are you in Canada or IL?
MDC- How is PT going?
Tom- I noticed yesterday that my cousin in the middle of Kentucky's weather is a tad hotter than us in Atlanta! Y'all have a heat wave going on up there!

Good morning, porch. Lucy, I just must say - it certainly is nice having you back on a regular basis. You're just a treashuh!
About the car, I'm sure your husband will find just what you want, but I can't resist making a suggestion, because it worked out so well for me. I know I've mentioned this before, but it's truly such a good plan, I'm going to say it again. Find a really good new car dealership that has a "certified pre-owned" department. I bought four or five cars this way, and they were all great. Buy a car that's about two years old. You'll pay about half what a new one would cost, and you will have the remainder of the car's new-car warranty, just as though you had bought it when it was new. The dealership I used here was the Sewell Village Cadillac dealership, a company very well-known for their customer service. Around the Dallas area, they're the bench-mark for quality. I'm sure there's something similar in your area. Here's a few examples of the service I got. While in Fredericksburg, just leaving to come home, the headlights weren't working. I called Sewell, ten minutes later the local Olds dealer called me (no Cadillac dealer in the town) and told me to bring it in. I did, they fixed it, and I was on the road, no charge. A few months after Dale passed, I was returning home after a visit to Fredericksburg, couldn't avoid running over some debris on the highway, and a few minutes later a tire blew. I was coming into a small town, but it was Sunday and everything was closed. I got off the road and used Dale's cell phone to call Sewell. Twenty minutes later a man appeared and put my little spare on. He then led me to a tire shop in the next town that was open, where a man put a new tire on the car. I paid for the tire itself, but all the service was covered. One morning when I came out of work to go home, the car's battery was completely dead. Called Sewell, fifteen minutes later a man in a Sewell uniform and a big pickup appeared, put in a new battery, refused a tip, thanked me and left. No charge. One morning at home, I smelled gasoline when I entered the garage. There was a very small puddle under the car. I called Sewell, they told me not to raise the electric garage door, they were sending someone. In about twenty minutes, two men were at my door. They manually raised the door, then pushed the car out of the garage. They threw sawdust on the little puddle and swept it up. Then they loaded my car on a flatbed and took it away, leaving me a loaner. The next day, they returned my car, picked up the loaner, again - no charge. I paid about half the new car price for those cars, loved them all, and had unbelievable service. I'm not buying anymore, just keeping my "pet car" as my kids call it, simply because I love the car, and am not that excited about the newer ones. I hope you'll consider the idea. If you've got a crackerjack dealership anywhere nearby, I don't think you can go wrong.
All I'm going to say about the gun control is this oldie: "In a situation where seconds count, the police are only minutes away." Since I don't have a squad car in front of my house 24-7, I bought a gun, a Taurus Judge, and it lies on a table next to my bed. The bullets aren't in my pocket, either, they're in the gun. I know how to use it, and I would. Furthermore, I'm seriously considering getting a smaller, more portable gun, and getting my CC.
Well, I guess I'd better get busy around here. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Hey folks, I wanted to relay something to you before I forgot. I have found a unique way to fall asleep. I have a tablet and I use it sometimes to watch videos. I tried this idea once and have been doing it now for quite a while. I have it at my bedside at night and I cue up an episode of TAGS. I place one ear bud in my ear and turn the volume way down to where I can JUST hear it. I listen to the episode while I fall asleep! It really helps because, instead of my mind playing problems and chores and different things over and over in my mind, my mind will basically play the visual part so I see it instead of seeing things that keep me from going to sleep. Might sound kinda silly to some, but I once thought, "Sometimes people go to sleep with a radio turned down low. What if I made TAGS "radio" with my tablet?" So I hear the episode, but my brain plays the visual. Thought I would pass that along in case any of you might want to try it also. Have a great Sunday!

June 18, 2017 - Msg 107704:
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!! Sometimes it's a little hard for me to say that, since my father and my children's father have both passed, my mother and a grandson as well. To make it worse, my father passed on Father's Day morning, in 2003. It's very easy for me to get down in the dumps on this day, but that doesn't help me or anyone else.
So, I think about it a while, and quickly arrive at a much better place in my mind. For my father, I remember hearing him pray, many times, asking God to please take him, because he missed my mother so much and he wanted to go where she was, and he wanted to see Jesus. The morning he passed, I didn't shed a single tear. Later, I did, because I missed him, but that morning, all I could do was say "Thank you, Father, for answering his prayer."
It's no secret to anyone who was on the porch in 1996, that I had a very hard time with my husband's death. I felt like God had abandoned me, my life and all our plans were just wrecked, and I honestly didn't care whether I lived or died. It took a long time to come out of that dark place, but I finally did. I finally reached a place where I could see it all from a different side. Instead of grieving because he died at only 58 years old, I realized I could rejoice because he lived for 58 years, strong and healthy, died without pain or suffering, and is now in heaven waiting for me. I got to spend 38 of those years with him, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
Our children, those who were blessed to have such a fine man for their father, are reflections of him. They are all God-worshiping, honest, hard-working, loving, kind, helpful, patient and funny. A reunion of the four of them is just almost constant laughter. Their father would be so proud of all of them.
So, life is what you make of it. It doesn't matter so much what happens to you, it's how you handle it that really matters. Blessings, porch, and a special blessing for all you dads out there. --Romeena

John Masters, that's a great idea! I don't have a tablet or earbuds, but I do something similar. I just leave the bedroom TV on. I can set it to shut itself off after an hour, but I usually don't, because I always wake up when it goes off! I know what you mean about "watching" it in your mind. As for the volume, I can play it at a comfortable level, since there's no one here but Toye Starr, and she doesn't seem to mind the noise.
Dale used to say that he could tell when my "motor wouldn't turn off." He was right, that's exactly what it's like on one of those nights. Sometimes, when I can pinpoint what's keeping my motor running, I just get up and take care of it. Often, it's a story idea, so I just get up and write it, or at least outline it so I don't forget. For a lot of these recent years, it's been things that I wanted to include in my book, but that's now at the publisher. It took me a long time to actually submit it, because God kept putting new thoughts in my head and I just couldn't feel like it was finished. Finally, about six months ago, that stopped. I waited a while, to see if anything else popped in, but nothing did, so I took that as a sign that it was done. I read it through about four times, looking for typos, spelling or grammatical errors, or places where a sentence would sound better in another part of a paragraph. I found about a dozen things to correct, and then considered it finished, and sent it in. My "project coordinator" tells me it's about to go to print, after we ironed out a couple of copyright questions, so it should be available before long.
As you might imagine, I'm pretty excited about the whole thing. It probably won't sell very many copies - it's a pretty narrow genre, after all - but that's not why I wrote it. If it helps one person recover from a loss and find a happy place once again, then I'll have my reward. It's been a long journey, but writing it helped me probably more than anyone else, because it forced me to take a long and serious look at the whole thing. As someone once said, "Teaching teaches the teacher." I think it did exactly that. --Romeena

Good morning, porch. MDC, that's just too dang hot! However, I'd like to know what the temp is at your house. I've never understood how they can get an accurate temperature at an airport, with all that concrete to hold the heat, the heat from jet engines blasting every two minutes, and no shade or greenbelts to speak of, to mitigate the heat just a bit. I know when my son used to fly gliders, he would seek out large shopping centers and other expanses of concrete, because there would always be a thermal rising from the area, strong enough to keep him in the air, just circling in the thermal. When he'd get tired of one, he'd just slide off of it, and glide to another one for a change of scenery. They even have thermal maps for glider pilots, to show them where they can find a rising column of hot air when they need one. Anyway, you stay in the a/c and stay cool. With your current problems, you don't need the heat.
Well, I got up at 5 a.m., was at the hospital by 6:30, received propophol and went out like a light, upper endoscopy began at 7:30, woke up at 8:10, feeling great, and Eloise drove me home, got here at 9:15, still feeling great. No soreness, not sleepy, feeling fine. The wonders of modern medicine!
Well, Eddie is here to finish weeding. This will be the third full day. There is one particular weed that has absolutely invaded my yard and is about to make me crazy. It sprouts, then grows about 2-3 inches a day! It has clusters of hairy little seeds all along the stem at the leaf joints. I have spread heavy mulch, spread Preen, and pulled as much as I can, which isn't much, and the miserable stuff was thick as cat hair in all my flowerbeds. Eddie has stooped in that sun for three days now, and has about all of them gone, but we're going to put out more Preen, and I'm going to watch and if any sprouts, I've got a neat tool that will let me scrape them off as soon as the break the surface. It looks like lambsquarter, but I don't think that's what it is. I'm going to send a picture to Howard Garrett and see if he can identify it. If he can, maybe he'll know something that will control it, or I'll check with Texas A&M.
Well, I'm getting a little tired, maybe I'll go pay Eddie now, and then see about a little nap. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

HI ALL, Romeena, I sure hope you gave Eddie one nice tip! (At least 2 quarters! ha)
Yes, I am staying cool in the house. RO, to answer your question, we have one of those window mounted
thermometers so you can see the outside temp by looking out the window. Anyway, the window is
in the shade of our back patio, and our patio cement is covered with outdoor carpeting, and on our 119 day on Tuesday, our shaded thermometer showed 118! Official temps are taken in the shade,
and it's in a pretty remote area of the airport grounds here.
Well, I do venture out on MWF now for my lymphedema PT, but that is about it these days.
TOM, I just run thru my sprinklers! :)
I forgot to mention, yesterday being the first day of summer, it is 50 years since the "summer of love!" Anyone remember Scott McKenzie's song? I bet our POSSUM remembers!

Good Morning Porch!
How is everyone today? We have more and more rain but we were in a drought so it's fine. We will have a whole summer of sun. Update on the car, we cleared the codes and it is somehow running. I'm not sure how long we will have but so grateful for however long that is!
Did I tell y'all my stepdaughter is moving back? She arrives on July 5th.
PH- Camping in Canada sounds so fun!
MDC- At least you're not in Death Valley! Stay as cool as possible.
Romeena- I'm glad your upper endoscopy procedure went well! I've had several of those and they're not too bad.
Hey to G-F, Tom, John, Possum, and anyone I missed. I have to get to work. Y'all have an awesome day!

Here's one for ya all...When my wife was 'unloading' her groceries today after a trip to the store, she pulled out a whole bundle of celery.
So I said, "now if you side-swipe a salt truck, you'd be all set!" :)
She rolled her eyes, as she knew where it was from! ha
My therapy is going well, but I'm not seeing much of a decrease in the swelling. Please keep up your prayers. Thanks all.

Take care,

Where did everybody go?? Maybe its just the fact that its summer, and the livin' is easy... :)
I hope all is OK, and made it thru the tropical storm. We are still in the 115 range here for about another 5 days, then should cool to 105 or so.
Prayers,
MDC

Good afternoon, porch. Sure was quiet over the weekend. I thought maybe the Rapture had come and I had been left behind! Glad to see MDC is still here. I know he wouldn't have been left, so guess I'm okay. (heehee)
Have you all heard about Pres. Trump's idea for The Wall? I think it's pure genius, and I hope it can be done. He's considering making it of solar panels, and use it as a huge, clean, renewable source of energy. He even said we could sell power to Mexico, and that's how they could help to pay for the wall. Here's a link: http://tinyurl.com/ycl62djm
I usually don't read the comments below an article like this as it's mostly trolls who have little to say that's worthwhile, but I was curious, so read them. The majority of comments were positive, for a change. There was one dumbkopf who said vandals would destroy it by throwing rocks at it, and I just couldn't let such idiocy pass, but generally, it seems to be well received. If he can get that done, that's sheer genius.
Well, guess I'll go scare up a little lunch. Leftovers, I guess. Hey, anybody besides me like cauliflower? I love it, and fix it several ways, but I found a new one last night. Easy, and really good! I just washed the (large) cauliflower, broke it into the little stalks and put it in a covered casserole dish in the microwave. About ten minutes, and it was tender, with a bit of fight left in it. Then I put a can of Campbell's broccoli/cheese soup in a bowl, added about three big dollops of sour cream and about half a can of milk, stirred it smooth. I put a lot of shredded cheddar cheese over the cauliflower, poured the soup mixture evenly over it, added more cheese on top, and nuked it again for about three minutes, or until the cheese had melted and blended into a nice thick sauce on the cauliflower. Boy, was it good!! Took about 15 minutes to prepare. I always plan for leftovers, so I had bought a big cauliflower. I'll get at least two more meals out of it, with other things alongside. Last night, I had some leftover green beans, and I bag of fresh spinach, which I wilted down in a skilled with a bit of butter and some lemon juice. So good! A handful of cherry tomatoes rounded it out. Didn't need any meat, with all that cheese. Asa, if you and your wife like cauliflower, this recipe (if you want to call it a recipe) is a winner.
MDC, I hate to tell you, but it's 74° here today. A norther blew in last night, brought a heavy rainstorm with a fantastic light show, and really cooled things off. By Monday we'll be in the upper 80s, and it will be onward and upward from there, I'm sure, but it surely is pleasant right now. Looks like maybe more rain today. I hope so.
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

ROMEENA...the one veggie that I just cannot eat cooked is cauliflower! I can eat pieces raw with a ranch dip, but never liked it cooked. Of course you are 'hiding' yours in a 'heavy sauce' so I might be able to do it then. I just hope it doesn't "lay on your chest!" :)
We still have about 5 more days of 110 or higher, but they say by Wed. we should be down to 105 or 106! Yikes, it aint even July yet. (Very funny about the rapture. I pray that this Pentecostal Catholic will be in the number! :)
Good Sabbath to all. Please keep me in your prayers, thanks,
MDC

Good Sabbath all.
Yep GF, I am still here, thanks for asking. Just been very busy at work and at home. I am finding that it takes me twice as long to accomplish half as much as it used to do. I wonder what causes that. lol Happily I have a boss who appreciates my experience and ( I hope) wisdom I bring to the crew, and does not just consider me to be an old relic, just trying to hold on until retirement. I know there are some bosses who treat the older employee's like that, and I know that I am fortunate to not work for such a person.
MDC, You are always in my prayers Brother. I hope the P.T. is helping you. Stay cool if you can.
Ro, thanks for the recipe. It contains two things that I need in my cooking. Easy and tasty.
I have not been here much, but I don't see any Boo posts here for a while. I hope she is ok. Maybe she went into mass production of her redneck a/c system. :)
Well I am going to Stacey's Preachin today. She is speaking and I want to be there to support her. She is a Young Women's Leader and they all went on a retreat last week. She is going to talk on her experiences with that along with some of the young women who attended also. Then we are having dinner at her house afterwards. A belated Fathers Day dinner because last week she had some sick young-uns.
Then I have tomorrow off with use or lose vacation.
Prayers for all for a wonderful Sabbath day.
Asa
