Good evening all. Looks like we had some interloper here. Thanks Floyd, for cleaning it up.
Well thanks for the info on Quincy Romeena. I went to channel 82 and sure enough, I see it is on here weekday afternoons at 1:00. I see they air Emergency also. I haven't seen Nurse Dixie in a long time. :)
Beautiful day here today. Temps in the mid 60's, sunny. We need a lot of days like this one to bring that melting snow down nice and easy. Right now all of our rivers are running at peak as they are making room for the higher elevation melt to begin. The next month could be interesting.
Romeena, I bought some Simply Grapefruit juice this morning at the store and drank a glass. I have noticed today my blood pressure has been down quite a bit from where it has been. Would it work that fast? If so, that is awesome.
Well spent much of the day in the yard. Time for a shower and then settle down with a DVD. I wont tell you what I'm watching because y'all would tease me.
Prayers for your good health MDC. And for you also Boo.
Where is John Masters? Probably can't get off that Sears machine. lol

PH, you're the CATS...good to have you back.
Aw, Asa, tell us what you are watching. I'll tell something embarrassing if you tell something embarrassing. ;) Are you watching Flipper..or maybe The Partridge Family?:)
Been working the last few days and yesterday evening was a real booger. Tonight was much better but still getting so many meds ready for so many boys is a real pain sometimes. I still love my job, though. I am just hoping and praying that the air conditioning doesn't go out this summer...AGAIN.
Ro, I can't remember what you did about the ducklings last year, but seems that they ran and got under a bush after they were hatched. What are you going to do with the pool..are you thinking if they get into that, you will be able to get them out and put them in a carrier and move them to safety?
Well, Bruce and Sean have been working around here getting the ground leveled and the tree trim. Monday operation sprinkler system begins!... FINALLY. After that, the Bermuda seeds go in the ground and little grass shoots should start coming up in no time. I cant wait.
Well, I am pretty worn out. I already had my shower so now I will either watch a little TV or read. I am in the middle of a Fanny Flagg book right now and it's pretty good. I like her books. Anyone else read her books? She wrote the book, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Inn"..it was the book on which the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was written.

Cecile and I went out together to a family gathering, so that was nice, but I had to elevate my legs as soon as we got home.
This morning I watched 3 episodes of the Match Game from 1975 on a channel I get called Buzzr, featuring old game shows! Good ol' PH told me about it a while back.
PH--I am so glad you are back home. Always nice to get back into ones own bed. Glad your rehab is moving along.

Good afternoon, porch. G-F, I just hope that wasn't a pig barn. As much as I love pork, I have to say, there's not much that's any worse than a pig barn. A cow barn is rank but tolerable, and a horse barn doesn't bother me at all, but pigs? Phew!
Well, as I said, the book is at the publisher, and now the fun begins, I guess. They're going over it with a fine-tooth comb to be sure no copyright laws are being infringed. I sent in all waivers and consents I thought would be needed, but they're finding things I either overlooked or didn't know would require a consent. Picky, picky, picky! It's getting done, though.
It's cold here today, relatively speaking. It's been in the low 60s all day, and quite windy. Really chilly without a jacket. Eloise and a friend and I went to our favorite Thai restaurant after English classes today, and I thought I would freeze or blow away, or both, before I got back to my car. I guess you can't freeze at 60°, and the likelihood of me "blowing away" in anything smaller than a tornado, is pretty small, but it sure felt like it.
Well, that's about all I know. You all be good, now. --Romeena

Welcome, Thelma Lou! Glad to have you. I don't recall us ever having a Thelma Lou before, so enjoy the name! As Floyd said, we're not really an instant chat room, we're more of a bulletin board format, but it works for us. Most of us have been "on the porch" now for years, and feel like family, but newcomers are always welcome.
MDC, here's hoping you get a good report back on the echo, and that the nephrologist doesn't find anything to be concerned about. I'm betting he's just going to tell you that you're no spring chicken anymore! That's what they always tell me, anyway. Humphf!
Boo, I'm sorry about that 100° temp. I know how you hate the heat. Seems like it came on awfully early this year. Same here in the Dallas area - that little wood duck is a full six weeks ahead of when her brood hatched last year. Still, after a couple of weeks of very warm weather, it has been in the 60s in the daytime, and 50s at night this week. Today was a little warmer, so maybe our little cool spell is going away.
Asa, the book that's at the publisher now is not a Herriot style. Wish I could write like he did, for sure. Maybe one of these days I'll try it. The subject matter would be different, mostly, though animals would figure in now and then. I've considered writing about the adventures my cousin and I had when we were kids. We were two months apart in age, he was trouble on feet, and I wasn't much better. I was a confirmed tomboy, (couldn't stand prissy girls) and kept up with my boy cousins pretty well. Also, from early childhood I wanted to be a nurse. I rarely played with dolls, and when I did, they were usually the victims of an Indian raid or some such. I would fight off the Indians (my cousins) and then patch up the wounded. We were definitely free-range kids, and we had a lot of fun.
Well, guess I'd better go feed my little canine companion. I think she'd appreciate it. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Good morning, porch! Cloudy day here, the sky is that bleached-out gray color that looks like it ought to produce rain but probably won't, at least not today. Rain is in the forecast for the weekend, though. I hope so. I've been enjoying low water bills and really hate to run the sprinklers.
Oh my goodness! A big and beautiful Baltimore oriole just visited my yard! I've only seen one other over the years. There's no mistaking him - a bright flash of gold and orange, and that gorgeous black-hooded head, black wings with white streaks. He didn't hang around long, but he surely is a pretty thing. I've got to get some oranges, and I need to get a jelly feeder. I want to call that beautiful creature back to the yard! Some orange halves out there should do it.
I haven't seen the little wood duck in two days. It's possible that she has hatched her little clutch of eggs already, though it's about five weeks earlier than last year. Our unusually warm and early spring could have caused her to start laying earlier. I hope not. If they did hatch, they've already jumped out of the nest box, and she has set off on foot to try to lead them to a body of water, and the neighborhood cats have had a feast. Breaks my heart. Still, cats or cars, they didn't have a chance of getting to water from here. Why she insists on nesting in my back yard, I don't know. I'm going to keep watching the nest box, maybe she'll show up.
Well, better get busy around here. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Padded ends on a walking stick! Good idea. Your grandbaby will cherish that stick one day. My daughter gave me a walking stick a few years ago when I had knee surgery, and the thing was a menace! The bottom end was just wooden, and it slipped and skidded on hard surfaces. We quickly put a crutch tip on it, and it became quite handy. There's a knob on the top end of it, and it would make a deadly shillelagh if necessary. I still carry it once in a while, if I know I'm going to have to walk a long distance, or stand for a long time. It's nice to be able to lean on it a little. Goodness, I sound like I'm decrepit, and I'm not. I can do anything I want to do, except go into high altitudes. Actually, the things I can't do - like climb a mountain - are things I have no desire to do anyway, so it's true - I can do anything I want to do. See how that works? :)
Well, there's still no sign of the mama duck. I'm afraid she's gone. She has either abandoned the nest, which is unlikely, or they hatched, left the next and she led them away at some time when I wasn't at home to notice. Either way, the ducklings would be lost. That hurts my heart, makes me sad. Poor little things. I wish mama duck would choose a more appropriate nesting site.
G-F, a "jelly feeder" is just a shallow dish - it can be anything - placed outside with some jelly in it - usually grape. You can just use something out of the kitchen and sit it on a stump, or even attach it to a tree limb with a little putty. You can also buy commercially-produced ones that are really neat - a wire frame that holds two or three shallow glass dishes. You can put jelly or orange halves in the dishes. Lots of birds like those things, as do butterflies and occasionally hummingbirds. Lots of birds enjoy the jelly and the fruit - robins, woodp3ckers, mockingbirds, orioles, cardinals, come to mind here in Texas. In other parts of the country, scarlet tanagers are often attracted. We get summer tanagers, but they're not as bright and flashy as the scarlets. Just remember, if you put jelly out, use a small container. If it's too large, the bird might actually get in it, and the sticky jelly would gum up its flight feathers, making it a target for cats. (Why don't people keep their cats in? They kill millions of our songbirds every year. Look it up!)
Well, guess I'll go rustle up some dinner. I'm not very hungry, maybe just a bowl of soup. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Possum, I don't know about porch possums, but the one that comes in my yard every night just sort of ambles around, in no particular hurry. However, if someone opens the back door, he does indeed "skeedaddle" for the nearest tree, and up he goes. When Diesel is here, and wants to go potty, we rattle the door for a little before opening it for him, to give the possum time to get away. Actually, if Diesel ever ran up to him and the possum would turn and hiss at him, Diesel would probably wet his little dog pants and run for the house. He's rambunctious, but definitely not a fighter. Gotta love that pup! --Romeena

Wow! What a breakfast, SPOT! If it's that good as a cyber-breakfast, I can't imagine what the real thing would be like. I'd probably just make a pig of myself. Eggs and limp bacon, and hashbrowns and biscuits and all that other stuff - Mercy!
It's warm here today, at 85°, but we're supposed to be at a 100% chance of rain. Sure do hope it happens. Supposed to cool down considerably, too.
Well, this is the third day with no sign of little Mama Duck. I think they hatched, left the nest and she led them off into oblivion, when I was away from the window. I've been gone for a few hours just about every day this week, so it could have happened at any time. I really do hate that. I was hoping to catch and save this little family, but I'm afraid it's not to be. If she was still in that box, I'd have seen her by now. No way can I check it - the thing is about fifteen feet up on that tree, and I don't do ladders anymore!
Well, guess I'll go scratch up a little lunch. That cyber-breakfast doesn't stay with you long, does it? Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Well, the Bengals drafted the woman beater. I sort of knew it was coming. Right now, I'm considering whether I will have to boycott them on moral grounds. The guy broke 4 bones in a woman's face. Whew.

Wow. I'll agree, that's a pretty big pill to swallow. It's bad enough, just on its own. There is never an excuse for a man too commit violence against a woman. There may very well be a reason, but there's no excuse, and there's a very big difference there. Some women ask for it, provoke it, and may very well have it coming, but there's still no excuse for a man to do it. For that matter, there's no excuse for a woman to hit a man, either. People just shouldn't hit each other. That's why we have brains and voices, so we can discuss and settle our differences without hurting each other.
I don't know the story behind the punch in the face. No matter the circumstances, he shouldn't have done it, but I would be interested to know to what extent she had provoked him. If she had not provoked him, or only mildly, then he has serious anger management issues, and that will come out again on the field. He'll bear watching, but I guess everyone deserves another chance, at least once, in most cases. In other cases, no. I'm speaking of the young man down the street from me who is sitting in prison right now, under a 33-year sentence. Angry because of a disagreement with a "friend", he encountered a neighbor lady who was just walking up the friend's driveway. The guy didn't even know her, but in his anger, he walked up and punched her in the face with his fist and then proceeded to kick her in the head as she lay on the ground. The woman was 83. There were several witnesses, so he was in custody very quickly. Anger management issues? Yes, I'd say so. Cowardly little cur? Yep, I'd say that too. He didn't punch another man, he chose an arthritic, 83 year old woman, out in the open, in broad daylight, with witnesses. What on earth was he thinking?
Well, guess I'd better think about a little dinner. Again, I'm not very hungry. I wish I had one slice of pizza. That would just about do it, but I don't, so guess I'll think of something else. Maybe more soup! I think I'll check with Emma and see if she's got some. She might, people are always taking her a pot of soup. --Romeena

I'm right here, SPOT. Thanks for breakfast.
Asa, hope you are staying warm. I am now learning to loom knit so there will be some warm caps coming your way this Christmas.
Ro, that is one of the saddest things I have ever heard! That poor lady. I wonder if that guy even has any remorse over what he did?
I'll hop on over to Weaver's and check things out, Floyd.
Well, worked last night and work again tonight so can't hang around and chat for long. Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Good Sabbath all.
You better enjoy them 80's today GF. We are just the opposite here. Been a cool weekend, we might hit 60 today, but they are saying pushing 80 by next weekend. But they ain't all that accurate in the 7 day forecasts so I tend to not plan accordingly. I did get out and mow yesterday. And got some cleaning done in the garage. So my Wheeler was used, but not abused. But I am off tomorrow so it ain't out of the woods yet! lol
Sorry Boo, I am not trying to tease you with the cool temps. Actually 60 is pretty good, but we had a pretty stiff breeze from the north with it, so it wasn't all that comfortable. I hope you Texas gals survived them storms I was reading about.
Well best get off to preachin. I hope it's a good one today. I didn't sleep to well last night and I might just pull a Gomer. Maybe there will be a fly to keep me awake. Who knows.
Floyd, I might just have to get me that bumper sticker. I am always amazed at the comments I get from folks when I wear any of my Mayberry shirts. Folks really love the show all these years later. I kind of think most folks crave the simpler and gentler times that the show portrayed, don't you think?

Boo, you snuck in on me girl. Oh man, A nice cap would be fantastic. Aren't you kind. But I need to repay your kindness. With all that hot air you have, maybe I can get you a can opener with an umbrella. At least it would keep your knuckles in the shade. ;)

Good afternoon, porch. Bright and sunny here, temp nearing 70°, and we have had nary a drop of rain! It was supposed to rain most of the day yesterday, but if it did, it blew away before it reached the ground. We've had a gusty, blustery wind both yesterday and today. I tried to run my sprinklers earlier, and finally just turned them off, as it the water wasn't even reaching the ground. It was just blown into a fine mist and carried away! If the wind ever lays by, I'll try to sneak in a zone or two.
Boo, if that killer ever felt any remorse, he sure didn't let it show. Also, his brother who helped him leave the scene and tried to dispose of his bloody shoes and clothes at home, was jailed, then released on bond (bond was too low). He showed his appreciation by breaking into a house and robbing it. He went back to jail, on a much higher bond, and I don't know what happened to him. He's not on the inmate list at the county jail anymore. I would definitely like to know his whereabouts. It's hard to accept this. This is a nice neighborhood, nice homes, about 2/3 of the residents are original here, from when the homes were built in the early 70s. The killer's family has lived here about twelve years - I've watched those boys grow up from about ages 7, 8 and 9. The oldest is the killer, the youngest helped him, and the middle brother was never charged with anything. He didn't do anything to stop his brother, but he didn't participate either, so he couldn't be charged. The boys have always been sullen and surly, not really pleasant kids at all. Something is definitely wrong in that family. If you want to know more about the case, just search "Jesse Perkins in Irving." His brothers are Thomas (the middle one, not charged) and Edward, the youngest one, who burglarized a house. Nice neighborhood? Yes, actually it is. Do I have a very good alarm system and a loaded gun? Yep. I'm not stupid.
Well, guess I'll go watch some TAGS. This has been a quiet and peaceful day, at least here in the house. That wild wind is making it anything but peaceful outside. I'd really like to be able to water everything, but it's just too windy. At least I can water part of it. The rose island, and a zone along the side of the house are semi-drip lines, not sprays, so they aren't affected by the wind. The roses will appreciate the water. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Correction: I got the boys names reversed. Edward is the middle one, who was not charged. Thomas is the younger one, who tried to help his brother hide the evidence of what he had done, and who burglarized a house. Also, I just did a search on Thomas and learned that he has been sent to a rehab facility of some kind. I wish I knew the background of these boys. They're Native Americans. They're all biological brothers, adopted by the Perkins couple. The dad is white, the mom is Native American, but is not their natural mother. I don't know their ages when they were adopted, but they were around 7, 8 and 9 when they moved in here. It's possible that they had a traumatic early life, but that doesn't excuse violence and murder. As I've observed before, there may be a reason, but it's no excuse. --Romeena
