November 09, 2016 - Msg 106073: Well, I guess most of us here on the porch can breathe a collective sigh of relief this morning!
I say "most' because i know there are some who are
more inclined to the left and I respect their position, but from me personally, it's a muffled YIPPIE! Muffled only because it is untested waters that we are entering. Donald (wouldnt you know his name would be DONald) Trump has never held an office or served in the military, but then, my wife and I had an "unmarried" priest counsel us before we got married, (and we've now been married for 40 years) so we will have to see how this goes. We have been thru a lot together here on this porch, and I sure hope we can continue.
My big concern was the Supreme Court, and i think that will be OK now. I still believe that Scalia's death was not a natural event, but i'll slide the soapbox under the poch on that one.
May God bless America still, but as RO has said, America must also bless God again!
Prayers on this fine morning,

MDC

November 10, 2016 - Msg 106078: Ditto, MDC. I second everything you said, including your comment about a woman president. I'm fine with that idea, but definitely not her. We elected a "first" eight years ago, but he was the wrong one, and did more harm to the cause than good. To have elected Hillary would have been even worse. I was sorry to see her pull the "gender card" and refer to the glass ceiling. She might as well have said that she lost because she was a woman, and that's not true. She lost in spite of the fact that she was a woman! Even with all the starry-eyed young women across the nation voting for her, she still lost. She lost because she's a conniving, scheming, untruthful, self-serving, self-enriching person, gender notwithstanding. She just got caught in too many lies, the excuses and explanations were wearing too thin, and she lost. End of story.

Well, I can face the future now with some hope, even though there are a lot of unknowns. It beats facing four more years of the same insanity, and worse. Now, Mr. Trump has some promises to fulfill. If he just keeps his promises regarding the Supreme Court, America will be well-served. If he keeps any or all of the rest, we'll be just fine. Keep praying, folks. --Romeena

November 10, 2016 - Msg 106080: MDC, Thanks for the prayers buddy. Much appreciated. I am going in tomorrow to be fitted with a monitor that I have to wear for 4 weeks. Hopefully that will give them some ideas of what is going on. Have you ever had to wear one of those? Sounds like fun. (not)

Well as expressed by most here, I have guarded optimism that the new Administration will do some good things. I wish my elation was more about a Trump win than a Clinton loss. But I just feel she is a wicked evil woman that had no business even being considered for the highest office in the land. More than anything though, I am glad the people saw past the efforts of the media who has tried from day 1 to get her enshrined. I am so disgusted by the blatant left leaning bias of the media I could scream! Thank goodness folks have also seen that. Restored my faith somewhat.

November 10, 2016 - Msg 106085: Hey GF-Ya got between my severed post! ha

November 10, 2016 - Msg 106086: Howdy, porch! Just took a break from watching TV. I'm still on the puny list with this congestion and cough. Took a Mucinex DM, which really loosens up the gunk, but makes me feel sort of spacey. Not doing much today. Just watching Hallmark movies.

Asa, I wore a Holter monitor for a week a while back. It had a little "base station" that I had to either wear or keep very nearby, and it would beep if I got too far away from it. Beep-beep. Beep-beep. Well, it was spring and I was working in the yard a lot, parking the little device on nearby boulders or whatever, and I'd forget it and walk away, and it would beep. About the fifth day, it had beeped several times, so I made a real effort to stay close to it, but it still kept beeping. Beep-beep. Beep-beep. I moved closer and it beeped again. Finally I picked it up, holding it close to me, and still there was that double beep-beep. That's when I realized it wasn't coming from the device at all, it was a mockingbird, on the fence nearby. He had heard the beeping for a few days, and was copying and repeating it! He sounded exactly like the device.

I haven't even had the news on today. I figured the sore losers would make big old donkeys of themselves today, and I'd just as soon not know about it. It was to be expected. The freeloaders are afraid their freebies might dry up, so they'll go out and burn some cars and loot some stores. Personally, I'm going to write to President Trump and suggest he resurrect the WPA, and put some of the able-bodied welfare people to work rebuilding America's infrastructure. It put people to work after the Depression, when there was no welfare to depend on, and it would work again. There would be weeping and wailing, but if the welfare check stops, and you can get another check by going to work for the WPA, well, you will only go hungry for so long, and then you'll do the necessary thing. And at the end of the day, you just might feel better about yourself. We've got to rebuild the idea of a "work ethic" in our younger citizens. --Romeena

Romeena, I like your WPA idea of getting welfare recipients earning an income rather than accepting a handout. An idle mind has a tendency to get into trouble.

I was reading on the internet that the Canadian immigration web site went down as Trump's electoral count surpassed Hillary's. So many people are considering moving to Canada. I wonder why no one has mentioned moving to Mexico?

Yep Floyd, I was starting to feel like Barney and the choir there for a bit yesterday. I thought y'all had changed locations and didn't tell me. lol

Thanks MDC and PH. I went and got this monitor yesterday. It is just three wires that connect to those stick on do hickeys. Then a smart phone type device that gathers the info. It also allows me to send out a message if I am feeling any symptoms. Like Ro mentioned, it can't be more then 10 feet away from me. So it's not to bad. I have to wear it for 4 weeks though. Actually this past week it has been doing fine. So I guess we will see. Good to see you back PH.

What's going on with your Cards MDC? They seem to be struggling a bit this year. I have really not followed football much this year at all. Sick and tired of the over payed players and their social demonstrations they want to exhibit. I watch sports to get away from that stuff.

I was watching the episode last night "The Bookie Barber". It was so funny to see how excited Floyd got about the possibility of becoming a two chair shop. Great acting.
I also watched the episode where Fred Goss is sweet on Aunt Bee. I love the part when Andy jokes about adding spot remover to the gravy and how Mr. Goss took it so seriously. lol. "And young man, there's the matter of grass stains".

Well off to do my weekly grocery shopping.

November 12, 2016 - Msg 106102: Hey Mr. Heart Monitor, I wanna make some chili so cough up the recipe (please)

Hope you are all doing well. I had a busy day but a good one. I had lunch with my old college buddy and roommate, Susan R. It was really nice seeing her. We had dinner together about 10 years ago and hadn't seen her since. She is a real nice person, also a nurse and works at a VA clinic. After that I dropped by the mall for a short time and went to the hallmark store to look at all the ornaments. I didn't buy anything but it was fun to look. I also got a haircut, bought a new purse, and visited a good friend in the hospital. All in all, it was a good day. Now I have to fix something for dinner for Bruce. The kids went to a Christian music festival in Corpus Christi and they are still there enjoying themselves. The weather is perfect for it.

I pulled the trigger on another car this week and bought a 2012 Suburban. It's light gold with kind of a dark charcoal leather interior. I really like it. Now when I take the family to look at Christmas lights soon, we will actually have a heater. Remember last year we tried going a couple of hours north of us to a light festival and almost froze cause my heater went out.

Well, guess I should get up and get something for Bruce to eat. He has been working outside all day.

I don't have much I want to comment on, as far as the election other than to say that I am hoping and praying for the best.

November 13, 2016 - Msg 106106: Good Sabbath all.

Hey Boo, I'm sorry I forgot to post the recipe. It really isn't much, cause I ain't much of a cook. But here goes.
2 cans of mild nally's chili with beans
1 can of white beans
1 can of red chili beans
Sautee some ground beed with diced onion
Brown up some stew meat
1 jar of Pace medium salsa
Chop up some larger pieces of onion
I put mine in a crock pot for a few hours to let it all blend together. I hope you and your family like it. Romeena talks about adding some peanut butter into the mix, but I have not tried that yet. I have also heard her talk about adding a bit of sugar into the mix. Just a touch. I add a pinch of sugar to my deviled egg mix and it is a "wow" factor for sure. :)

Thanks for all the prayers for my health. The old ticker has been ticking right along well now. But 4 weeks is a long time.

Glad you got some new wheels Boo. My Daughter and her hubby bought a 2014 Suburban a year ago. They love everything about it except the gas mileage. But with 6 kids, it's the only thing that they can all fit into when together.

Well I have to take the Mrs. up for an infusion today, so no preachin. She usually gets one a month on a Saturday, but she has not been feeling good, so her Doctor ordered her a two day blast. I took her up yesterday for #1. And I was there Friday to get fitted with the monitor. I declare, spending a lot of time at the Hospital. Or as the English would say, "at ospital". They leave off the "The" and the "H" for some reason.

Prayers for all.

Very sorry to hear that your dear wife is not feeling well, Asa. I will pray for her and you. Thank you for the chili recipe. I can see right away that Bruce wont want to try it, but I certainly will. I have to make two different kinds of chili because he only wants his very mild. He tends to get some pretty bad heartburn fairly easily when he eats anything even slightly spicy, especially in the evening. By the way, I added some sugar to the last batch of chili I made and it was really good.

Very sorry to hear you are having health issues, Papa Bear, but good to see you on the porch. Thanks for stopping by. I pray you will be feeling better.

Well had a really good service this morning. We recognized our veterans, and we have quite a few in our church. We all stood and sang America ("Oh beautiful for spacious skies...), all four stanzas and it was just one of those moments..wow. The words to that song! God help our country and bless us and our children.

Well, have to go drive Erin and her friend to the youth gathering this evening and then Bruce and I will go by and pay his mother a visit. She is getting more frail by the day.

Hope you all have a pleasant evening.

Also, back in Canada, they have a tendency to leave out the word "the" especially on news programs.

She's at university.

MDC, I had a great free meal at Olive Garden on Veteran's Day. And tomorrow (Nov 14), I'll be going to Golden Corral for a free meal and beverage.

PappaBear, so sorry to learn you are still dealing with a lot of health issues. I hope the Veteran's Administration (VA) is paying for most of it. I'm so low on the VA priority list that I don't think I will ever use a VA hospital. That's why I'm thankful for the no-deductible and no-premiums-to-pay healthcare in Canada.

PH, Yes, and the English will sometimes add the word "the" to things we don't. Like they might say "he's in the jail", whereas we just say "he's in jail".

MDC, So your Cards held on for victory yesterday I see. Glad they defeated kapernick. That feller frosts me!

Yes Tom, Old man winter is waiting in the wings, isn't he?

I watched a few TAGS last night. Several of the ones that featured Miss Peggy. Mercy sakes, I just don't know how Andy let her get away. Yes GF, That bacon went pretty durn quick. Sad thing was that none of it was limp. It was all stiff. You know how I love me some limp bacon.
They are in the middle of restructuring things in the company, so it has a lot of the uppity mucks all in a wad. Some are losing there domain and are not happy about it. The company I work for is fairly large, and has grown massively in recent years. And has its share of "kingdom builders". Just going through some growing pains I think.

MDC and Boo, Every kiss begins with Kay's! :)

Tom, ship that snow to GF. He needs something to do on those long cold winter days. lol

Well yesterday the company that is installing the new machines that I ran the two 480 volt lines for showed up. And now they are saying that where I installed the disconnects will have to be moved. I showed them my copy of the plans THEY provided me, and where THEY wanted the disconnects placed. Now, because someone doesn't know how to use or read a tape measure, I am going to have to relocate them. They suggested I stay late last night and do it so they could start installing this morning. I suggested they go pound sand! First of all, it is going to take more than a few hours to do what I need to do. Second, the parts houses will all be closed. And D. I had an uncle who would order his steak like this: "Well-done, and when you think it's well-done, give it three minutes more." Then, invariably, when his steak arrived, he would complain because it was "tough and dry." What did he expect, fer cryin' out loud? Amazing.

MDC, you mentioned something way back there that I meant to pursue, and didn't. You questioned Justice Scalia's unexpected death. I couldn't agree more. That was all just too convenient, and has a certain political couple's fingerprints all over it. If you were trying to find a lonely, isolated, out-of-touch place in this country, you couldn't do better than where he was, out in far West Texas. They were at least four hours from the nearest qualified medical facility. You can't even get cell phone service out there in many places! My son works out that way a couple of times a year, and as he often does, he'll call me and we have some good talks, but when he gets to certain areas, he drops out, and he might have to drive for half an hour or more before he gets another signal. It's a rough, rugged, wild place, and no way would any emergency services be available. Also, it would be several hours before a doctor could get to the body to make any sort of determination of cause of death. That would leave plenty of time for any toxic agent to dissipate. Some things remain traceable, some do not. No, the whole thing stinks. I think Justice Scalia is just another name in the "body count."

Well, better go rustle up some lunch. They I've got a home health call to make, and some errands to run. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

November 15, 2016 - Msg 106127: Ro--I think you're talking about the count that involves a certain Vince Foster, and yes I sure agree; especially with the email revelations lately.
I'm sure there's some in there with some sort of code name for Scalia! Too many 'ifs' in his death, and NO autopsy on such a high official?
The whole thing was very strangely handled!
What we have may not be the greatest, but so glad 'she' is not it!
ASA--good for you buddy. That was a hard job, and as you said,
u were following THEIR plans!
You wont believe this tho, I noticed a "water ring" on the ground around one of my back sprinkler valves that I installed about 10 years ago. I dug down a bit, and sure enuf, it is one of the T-Joints!!! It is part of the 'manifold' of five valves, so I have a bit of work to do!

APB FOR OUR POSTUM!!! Come on out from under rock and say Hey. :)

Prayers for all,
MDC

November 16, 2016 - Msg 106130: Amen GF. Very well put!

Hey, maybe we need to chant in incant to get Possum out from under her rock.
Out Possum, out
or we will thump your snout
get on the porch and sit
or we will have a big fit!

Good luck on your water leak MDC. We had another one appear yesterday in our operations building. Another pin hole in a copper line in the ceiling. I think in the last two years I have made at least 10 separate repairs, all of them pin hole leaks right near a soldered joint. Grrr!

Supposed to get rain, turning to snow tonight. Just an inch or two here in the valley, but a couple of feet in the mountains. That works for me. The skiers can have fresh snow for Thanksgiving, and I shouldn't have to deal to much with it.

Well off to work I go.

Prayers for all.

November 16, 2016 - Msg 106132: To message 106128 - on this porch, it's customary and considered friendly to sign your comments. Otherwise, it tends to look like you're not too proud of what you said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including you, and here in America, you're still entitled to express that opinion, at least so far. There is a large faction (who just lost an election) who seems to feel that the freedom to express your opinion only applies if that opinion agrees with theirs, but we don't feel that way here. So fire away, friend, but at least identify yourself. If you're ashamed to do that, and would prefer to just snipe from the bushes, then I'd suggest you go fire your little cap pistol somewhere else. We already know you're not one of us, at least your ISP# is not recognized. --Romeena

November 16, 2016 - Msg 106135: Good Morning all!
BOO-my prayers are with you. I can't imagine myself trying to do what you do. You also reach out to those kids with the word of the Lord! God bless you!
ASA and GF--I dug a little deeper yesterday, and I think
I will replace the whole manifold. Somewhere in the world about 10 years ago apparently the QC guy fell asleep on the job as the "t' joints went by on the conveyor! Or maybe he or she was watching "I Love Lucy" that day!
Monday and Tuesday I go in for my nuclear stress test, and if all goes well I have set a date in January to get a hip replacement! Please keep me in your prayers.
Also, RO has pappabear's latest address for when she sends out this year's list.

November 17, 2016 - Msg 106138: TOM, I can't speak for Asa but I'll try REAL hard to be good over the Holidays, since he is wired for sound it may be harder for him to get into trouble. But then again it doesn't take us much to get into trouble....We will try not to say "ain't" so much too!.

On a another subject, they are calling for an accumulation of that frozen white stuff this weekend, but we are supposed to have record highs today and tomorrow...CRAZY!...
For me, I'll do my final yard clean-up today and put the mowing machine away for the season and get the Snow Joe ready...

Big Maude

November 17, 2016 - Msg 106140: Howdy porch.
Great to see you Big Maude. That lunch sounds just right on a cold day here. The storm came, just a dusting of snow, but surely did cool down. We have been spoiled with the mild temps we had all through October.

Prayers for your stress test MDC, and that all will go well for the hip. Once you get it we can honestly say, "That MDC is one hip dude"! lol

Tom, I am traditionally a law and order kind of feller, but that GF brings out the mischievous element in me. I think we feed off of each other. But all in all, we ain't bad chaps.

GF, I did my final yard clean up last Saturday. Nice to have all the leaves up and out of here, or in the garden breaking down.

I am loving your Christmas quotes MDC. I bet Boo does too. Sorry she is so durn busy.

Well I think I am gonna enjoy this nice lunch and take a short nap before the afternoon stuff hits.

Prayers for all.

Asa
