My old washer was at least 24 years old but I decided to get a new one. It worked fine, never had a problem, but I figured its days were numbered. Got a new one a couple months ago, a Kenmore, and as of tonight, it ain't working. It won't do anything but fill up, and then drain. I guess I need to call Gomer to come have a look at it.

Billy Ray the Postman, I looked online for the Kenmore Washer warranty and discovered something that confuses me:
"FOR ONE YEAR from the date of sale this appliance is warranted against defects in material or workmanship when it is correctly installed, operated and maintained according to all supplied instructions.
WITH PROOF OF SALE, a defective appliance will receive free repair or replacement at option of seller.
This warranty applies for only 90 DAYS from the sale date in the United States, and is void in Canada, if this appliance is ever used for other than private household purposes. "
So you have either a one year warranty or a 90 day warranty. I hope you saved the receipt. Don't delay to contact the seller or manufacturer.

PH, I think that warranty disclaimer may mean a 1 year warranty for residential use, but only 90 days if used commercially. I have found, as I am sure many others, these so called "warranties" are somewhat useless as they have so many little hidden escape clauses in them, it is difficult to get them to honor them. Case in point, last week I had to replace a "door closer" on a heavily used door at work. These are those devices mounted usually near the fop of the door that closes the door automatically. They are a spring loaded device also using hydraulic oil that allows you to control how fast and how hard the door closes. The ones we use are for commercial applications and are heavy duty. Very expensive at over $250.00 each. But they are supposed to have a lifetime warranty. So I took the old one off and hand delivered it to the company that sells them for a new one. Well all of a sudden they need me to provide the original sales receipt, needed to know how often the door is used, and said that they had to knock off so much money for every year old it was. This thing is almost 30 years old, you really think I have the receipt? How am I supposed to know how many times the door is used in a day. It is a very heavily used door I told them, but I don't have the time to sit there and count. And there is no mention in your sales garbage about any pro-rating going on. Y'all proudly claim "LIFETIME GUARENTEE" in your brochure. I have found this practice to be the rule rather than the exception on just about anything I have tried to get "warranty" work done on. And don't even get me started on these so called "extended warranties". What a joke!
Possum, hope you are feeling better. Hate to hear about a sick possum under a rock. Even jabbing it with a stick won't move a sick Possum. :)

Billy Ray the Postman and MDC, I think Asa figured out that confusing wording with the Kenmore warranty. His reasoning makes complete sense to me.
- a one year repair or replace warranty when used in a "private household" situations such as single family residences.
- a 90 day repair or replace warranty when used in other than a "private household" situations such as commercial situations. Laundromats is one example I can think of.
Asa, you brought up a very good point regarding lifetime guarantees. Not too long ago, I learned about small print exceptions and adjustments on the internet regarding lifetime guarantees. I bet that if we surveyed consumers, most would not be aware of these limitations.
In fact, I think this would be a great topic to discuss with a politicians about introducing a law that requires this information to be displayed every time a business advertises "lifetime guarantee". Consumers are being intentionally mislead.

Good Mornin' Porch,
It's another rainy cool day here in Atlanta. It's so weird to have this weather in September. Typically, we are still in the 80's with the air conditioner on. At least we are saving some money by having the windows open. I just love when we get fresh air. It's a little warm at night for the boys, but I sleep just fine. :)
GF, How exciting! I'm glad you got to go and can't wait to see some photos. Are you on Facebook?
Billy Ray the Postman, we bought our Kenmore set in 2000 and it still works real well. I hope you can get it figured out. I'd certainly call whomever you purchased it from, assuming it is Sears since they manufacture Kenmore. In the last year our washing machine and refrigerator have gone out, but since we rent they brought in new ones.
Poor Horatio, have you upgraded to Windows 10? I'm not a fan. I've lost my ability to right click to copy and paste. I need to read up on how to do that. It's so annoying. I'll do things like this on my laptop, but have to save it if something needs to use the right click and do it on my desktop. My desktop is a redneck standing desk (meaning my husband bought a small coffee table and put it on top of our regular desk, so it does not go up and down like a regular standing desk) and complete the task. My ankle doesn't allow me to stand more than 3 hours so that's how I get more accomplished...using both computers. So annoying! I'm American so I want to sit all the live long day! :D
Asa, how exciting! I love babies. I will pray for your daughter to have a safe delivery and a healthy grandbaby.
Sterling, I have my bills emailed to me then as I'm checking emails I automatically pull up my bank app/website and set up the bill for payment. I do not do auto-pay for any bills as I do not want companies to know my bank account in their systems. It's probably silly, and they probably find out when I transfer, but I do not want it stored. Did you at least go to a hotel with a swimming pool? The kids would love that.
Romeena, I like your story about your picture and do not blame you one bit about having Toye Starr's photo with you! I think it was smart thinking on your part.
Spot, I like Castaway. It is not my favorite Tom Hanks movie but it is not bad. How are your children doing? Has Andy graduated from high school?
MDC, my husband and I took Dave Ramsey class in the spring and got so much out of it. Had we not taken it and saved most of my paychecks, we would be up a creek after I lost my job and he lost some accounts.
Last night I was watching some episodes in season 4. Now do y'all think that was really Gomer singing in the episode when he got a solo from Barney? I just don't know. It was awfully good.
What episode did Aunt Bea get a wig?

Good afternoon, folks. Today has been a bit long, but at least it was not terribly hot. It's just 88° right now, at 3:45. Sure beats 103°! Joe was here, and we had a "weeding day." Gonna do it again tomorrow, and Eddie is planning to come and join us. After that, there shouldn't be any more weeds in the flowerbeds. Then we're going to put in a layer of compost to raise the level of the beds a bit, and top it off with a deep layer of hardwood mulch. That should take care of the weeds. Of course, a good layer of organic-friendly Preen will keep the seeds we shook loose during the weeding from germinating later. Weeds! I just hate them!
Hi, Lucy! Good to see you. To answer your question, that was definitely Gomer (Jim Nabors) singing in that episode. That boy had a set of pipes for sure! I have his Christmas album from years ago, and it's beautiful. He sang again in an episode of Gomer Pyle USMC. His buddies entered him in a talent show, or something like that, and everyone was just shocked when he began to sing.

Regarding your question about Windows 10, I have Windows 7 on one computer and Windows Vista on another. I don't plan on upgrading for three reasons:
- I'm using older computers since they fulfill my needs.
- upgrading Windows may cause my applications to stop working and would require upgrading them and maybe the computer memory as well.

I've got Windows 7 on my computer, and Windows is trying very hard to get me to upgrade to Windows 10. This little blue box keeps popping up on my screen, asking me to download it. I don't, and I won't. I asked Bruce, my computer guru out in Florida about it. He has built five computers for me over the years, and I abide by his advice. He advised me to stay with 7. He says 10 doesn't always interface well with 7 when you try to upgrade, and 7 is working well, so as PH said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, Bruce said from his point of view as a "geek" - systems integrator, repair person, etc., - he's not sold on 10. He says there are glitches in it, that it needs more de-bugging, should have been vetted a bit more before they released it.
Well, I think I'll turn in. It's early for me, not even quite 11 pm, but I'm tired. Good night, porch, and sweet dreams. --Romeena

September 29, 2015 - Msg 102857:
MDC, Yep, what you heard IS true! A autographed picture was $30 and a picture taken WITH her was $20. So yes, her visit took a big chunk out of my Mayberry Days budget!.. Clint charged $20 for a autographed picture, but did not charge for a picture WITH him. He was a very, very nice guy, and very appreciative of his fans. On a better note, Dixie Griffith (Andy Griffith's Daughter) was there and all the money she received signing autographs she donated to the Mt. Airy Police,Fire,EMS service departments.... Yep a class act!!.
As far as the autographs go, I have found out, some of them are under contract and don't control what is charged for autographs. I know Margret Kerry (Helen Scolby/ Bess Muggins) she is under contract with Disney so she has to work out a special deal with Disney to charge less. She told this to me personally!.... Same goes for Peggy McKay (Sharon DeSpain) she is under contract with the soap opera she is on Days of Our Lives. She too had to work out a deal agreement.
Some of them don't like charging at all, but they do since everyone else is. All in all it is usually $10-$20 normally.
Mainly because so many people have their items on E-bay the next day, so I guess they feel it's a cheap price to pay for something of worth in the collectors world. I always have them personalized so they feel it is not going to be "sold"...
I do hope what I said is the case for Miss Eden, and not being greedy, but I believe it is the case.... But it is a sore subject with the fans, they saw very little of her other than at the autograph sessions, but at 84 she is entitled to do what she feels can do... Some people just like to stir up drama, as for me, I appreciated she decided to attend.
But trust me they are ALL amazed by the love of all the Mayberry fans.
As for being on TV, I did not get interviewed, but a few years age I got interviewed by the local paper, and I was on the Front Page of the Saturday paper. So I had my 15 mins. of fame, even tho the interview took only 5 mins. Lol... So I suppose the video of us walking the streets accounted for the remaining 10 minutes of fame...haha
All in All a good time was had by everyone. It is such a blessing to watch folks enjoying the Mayberry life if only for a short time....

Then something happened involving the people who accompanied Barbara Eden to Mayberry Days (I assume they were her either her staff or her security). When they noticed that Allan was dressed in his Floyd the barber costume, they asked him to pose with Barbara for their own photographs. Do you think they offered to pay Allan for posing? Nope. Also, as usual, I'll send the Christmas list out to anyone who requests it. If anyone would prefer that their name be removed from the list, now's the time to say so. Otherwise, I'll send it as it is, like last year.
Well, got to run. This is Wednesday, and I'll have eight or ten Spanish-speakers sitting there in my classroom at the church, expecting me to teach them to speak English! Nice folks, and so eager to learn. We do have a good time. --Romeena

Oh - one more thing - if anyone is NOT on the Christmas list, and would like to be, let me know and I'll add you to it. --Romeena

ROMEENA--yes, he spelled it both in the return address area, and in the letter with only one "l"...so Vermilion.

Thanks, MDC. So noted.
At this moment, I am so angry and upset I could spit nails. I just heard from Brittney that they were at the vet with our sweet Bentley, after a neighbor's dog beat him up. The neighbor's dog has a long history of misbehavior, barks constantly - I do mean constantly - and charges the fence whenever anyone goes in the back yard. A couple of years ago, he killed a smaller dog that also belonged to the family - just grabbed it by the neck and shook it like a toy and killed it. Neighbors complain constantly, including David and Brittney, and it does no good. The woman in the house "loves" the dog, she says. Well, our gentle, lovable old mophead, Bentley had gone outside to potty and that dog broke through the fence and jumped on him. Tore his ear, and put three deep puncture wounds in him - one in his neck and two in his upper back leg. The vet says he's going to be okay, gave him antibiotics and some other shots, and let him go home. David talked to the man of the house, who apologized profusely and offered to pay the vet bill and fix the broken fence, but made no mention of getting rid of the dog. Personally, I think the dog needs to be put down. That's a big statement, coming from me, but suppose that had been a child in the yard, instead of Bentley? As I said, the dog has a history of attacking other dogs, and he growls and snarls at people. I don't know what that woman is thinking. If that was my dog, I would have taken him to the vet and had him humanely euthanized two years ago, when he killed the other dog. Nobody needs a vicious dog. An attack dog on guard duty, with warning signs, is one thing. A vicious dog in the back yard that kills for no reason and breaks out of his yard, that's another story. It just breaks my heart to think of gentle little Bentley being mauled like that. I'd have called the police, but my David is a peacemaker, and he'll handle it in his own way. He'll do it right too, better than I would have. This won't be the end of it. He'll handle it diplomatically, peacefully, and calmly. He's his father's son, through and through.
Well, I need to settle down. I've got a home health call to make, and need to focus on my patient. Bentley's okay, David will see to the neighbor's dog in some way, and I need to mind my own business. It's just hard, because Bentley is such a sweetheart, and didn't deserve to be abused like that. Poor little guy. --Romeena

I just red back over the above, and maybe I need to make it clear that the dog the neighbor's dog killed belonged to the same people. Their dog killed one of their own dogs, it didn't belong to anyone else. They have too many dogs - four, right now, though the census varies. They have a grown daughter who keeps having kids (not married, different fathers each time) and brings them home and dumps them on her parents, so the parents have their own younger kids, and now a passle of grandkids, and a fluid number of dogs, all in a three-bedroom house. Why on earth that mother/grandmother thinks she needs to keep that vicious dog, I'll never know. She must be nuts. Just wait until it attacks one of the grandkids. --Romeena

RO-so sorry to hear about bentley. Not sure about TX, but here in AZ, it is OK to use a gun on a dog doing that type of damage to another animal or human. Just saying. I sure hope he heals OK, but having the neighbor pay a bill and fix a fence wont bring bentley's ear back.
It has still continued to be hot here. A ridge of high pressure
has settled in, and it was 107 yesterday and today...dang hot for nearly Oct 1st!
Looks like Putin is stirring up with things in Syria. Man, what times!

I have, MDC-finally kicked that crud to the curb! Now I'm ready to take on Hurricane Joaquin!
Who am I kidding?? I sure don't want that thing to come this way (or hit the US at all) so praying it goes right on up the Atlantic, like a good hurricane should.
Ro, that is terrible about Bentley! I tend to agree with MDC on how to remedy the situation. Maybe not with a gun,but a dog that vicious needs to be put down. I hope & pray a human being never becomes his victim. Keep us posted on things.
Back to cleaning up around my rock-y'all have a good rest of the day. Happy October!

I heard from Brittney today and Bentley is okay. He's stiff and sore, has a couple of stitches, and is reluctant to go outside, but he's going to be okay. David has talked with the neighbor man, and I'm not sure he got anywhere with him. The man is under his wife's thumb, apparently. She rules the house, she likes the dog, and "ain't nobody going to take her dog away from her." So, David is considering filing a complaint with the police, just to have it on record, because sooner or later, that dog is going to kill another dog or attack a human, and it's not going to be pretty. It might be better if she were to "rest her eyes on a badge" right now, and maybe she'll get the message. David feels sorry for the man. He's not in good health, his wife browbeats him, the promiscuous daughter keeps dumping new grandkids on him, and he can't control the ones he has. His own kids are growing up now, but when one of his sons was about five, he climbed up on the fence one day and was throwing sticks at Bentley. David caught him, went out and told him to cut it out and get off the fence. The kid unleashed a string of profanity at David like you can't believe, and told him he didn't have to do anything David or anybody else told him to do. "I'm my own boss", he said. The kids are generally dirty, they're loud and potty-mouthed, as well as disrespectful. In short, they're trashy people. It's a nice neighborhood, kind of a surprise that they're there, but they may be on a Section 8 deal, where the government is paying their rent. So, my kids are sandwiched between some very nice Nigerian people on one side, who are sweet folks, but cook horrible, stinky dried fish soup on a grill in the back yard - you can smell it when you turn down their street. They never mow their grass in the back - it's two feet high - (David mows their front yard), and on the other side he has the crown jewel of trashy white people. Sometimes you just can't win.
Possum, I'm glad you're finally feeling better. Nothing more pitiful than a sick little possum! Po' little thing! You know, I just almost never get a cold anymore. Haven't had one in several years. You know, there are only about 200 cold viruses. I think I've finally gotten old enough that I've about had them all, and am therefore immune. So look at it this way, Possum. You're one more cold down the line to total immunity!
Well, I think I feel a nap coming on. Blessings, porch! --Romeena

Wow, Romeena, was that dog a former fighter(as in dog fights)? Or just a plain, old ornery pooch?
We had a dog when we were kids that was very protective of the house and of our family, and was known to snap at any stranger who came too near. She certainly wasn't a killer though, and if a strange dog would come into the yard, if it was far enough away, Cougar(our dog) would bark at it viciously like there was no tomorrow. But if the dog came up to her, after some tense moments, they would get along.
I remember when Cougar made the mistake of snapping at my grandpa, who was a no-nonsense farmer.
Let's just say, she never snapped at him again, and after that she would quit barking the second she saw it was him coming through the door to visit.
They actually got along really well after that one incident, and he would even bring her treats when he would come down for a visit.
Hey guys, you want some more drama? I have a question to ask. Does a person have a right to be concerned, or even slightly upset, when their wife(or husband) is in Las Vegas for "business" and stays out until 3 in the morning(their time) at a nightclub, although she says(in text messages) how she is "beat" and complains first about how she doesn't know when her coworker will want to leave and she doesn't have any paper money for a cab, then later about how her coworker just met up with some friends she met at another convention in another state and so she is "stuck" hanging out while they talk and dance.
So I try to give her some suggestions, like she can use her credit card for the cab, or she should "hint" to the girl that it's getting late and she should go. But she never addressed those texts, and always seemed to have an excuse on why she "couldn't leave". Like then a guy who she works with and is friends with her wife, and who she knows I wouldn't be bothered by, came in and she was "stuck" talking to him while her coworker(and travelmate) spent time with her friends.
I was fine with all the other "business" parties she went to this week, one because she was pretty much forthright about them and also because she got in at a decent hour(usually around 10:30 ish - their time).
But this one seemed different, and while I understand she probably wanted to "let loose" and dance and have good time, and she probably was. I accept that. But it was the "protesting too much" as MDC referred to in another post on another subject but seemingly not wanting to do anything about it that started bothering me. It was always, "Hopefully we'll be leaving soon." That and the fact that she never went to any of these after-convention parties on her other trips, even to Vegas. Never seemed interested.
I don't know. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill, again? Or am I justified in my concern?
I don't know that it matters either way now.
I just don't think that a wife, or husband, should be out partying, especially in a place like Vegas, all hours of the night. And especially without their spouse. I thought she felt the same way. At least, that's how I thought the "new person" felt. The old wife wasn't a stranger to nightclubs. As I wasn't either. But now I don't want to step foot in one. And I know I especially wouldn't do it, that late, without my wife. But maybe that's just me.
