Good evening,
Hi all! How is everyone? Sorry for being awol this week. Between trying to find a job, housewife duties, and getting my son prepared for testing this week, I have been busy. Of course yesterday was all about the Royal baby and the Kentucky Derby. Husband actually took me to the outlet mall for returns and I kept looking at Twitter for updates. Poor boys of mine.
Asa, I'm so sorry about your grandson losing his puppy. I watched my cat be killed by my school bus. It was heartbreaking. I hope he will be able to heal, as well as the rest of the family. I also hope you continue to get rain.
G-F, I'm typing this on my iPad so twinsies!
Spot, good luck and be careful at the rodeo. I'm so proud of our Hawks!
Romeena, how are you feeling?
MDC, what a nice post about v-day. Hugs to you.
Boo, you take care of yourself now.
Tom, I hope you're well.
Possum, how fun! Good job on the trivia award.
Well hey to everyone! I hope y'all have wonderful week. I need to get to sleep!
Blessings,

Hey to you, Lucy. I'm feeling fine, thank you. Same old aches and pains, but they come with age, and serve as a reminder that I'm still living, so I don't complain. Well, not much, anyway.
Good luck on the job search. I hope you find exactly what you're looking for, and soon.
Just before I started making my supper tonight, my DIL called and said everyone was meeting at Uncle Julio's out in Grapevine, so I put it all back in the fridge, pulled on some jeans and a t-shirt, went by and picked up Eloise and Jerry and met the kids at Uncle Julio's. Some very tasty Mexican food, and good fun and fellowship. My son, of course, picked up the tab for my dinner, bless his little heart. He always does. He both looks and acts more like his dad every day. Makes me happy.
Well, I'm off to the ironing board. Maybe a brief stop in the living room for a little TV, I'm really not very sleepy right now. Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

Hope you can make it up to Mt. Airy for the week-end, it's a FUN time!

Good morning, porch. G-F, I agree with your opinion of Phil Fox. He's even funny when he's just being Phil Fox. He was present on some of the cruises that Eloise and I went on, and he's a riot. One year it was our great good fortune to be seated at the same table with him every evening, and it was hard to even get a meal finished, with all the laughter that was going on. He's one of those guys that's just naturally funny, and it's always good-natured. He's very kind and respectful, even when teasing. I sat next to him several evenings, and believe me, he was in charge of that table! In the rare moments when he was serious, not clowning, I found him to be a sincere, thoughtful and intelligent guy who just enjoys making people laugh. Oh, and by the way. Did you know in real life he's an a/c guy? Must be something about that particular occupation that attracts good people. Let's see, there's you, Asa, Phil "Ernest T. Bass" Fox ... am I missing anyone? Oh, and yes, he's very, very convincing as Ernest T. Bass. When he reaches in that bag he carries, and throws one of those foam-rubber rocks, people duck!
Well, guess I'd better get moving. The tree guy is bringing a crew back this morning to finish getting the cotton out of the trees. I told him I didn't think spraying them was going to work, he said if it didn't he'd come back and do more cutting, and it definitely didn't work. Cotton is flying out there like a small blizzard, and I didn't pay him what I paid him just to put up with cotton anyway. I called him and asked him to drop by, he did, and called me back and said he saw the problem, and would fix it. I hope he does.
Have a wonderful day, everyone! --Romeena

G-F, since your wife won't let you get a helicopter, how about a radio controlled drone? If you mount it with a light weight video camera, you can earn some money inspecting roofs and other high places, or sell aerial photographs of various properties.
Another alternative is to get a helicopter simulator program for your computer.

Good morning, porch. You know what, as I read the headlines and watch the news, I can't help but think of Matthew 24, where Jesus describes the signs of the end times. Seems to me that an awful lot of it has been fulfilled, or is in the process. The temple was destroyed, just as he said it would be, and now the big mosque, the Dome of the Rock, occupies the site. Could that be the "abomination of desolation" Jesus mentioned? You can't pick up a paper without reading about earthquakes, wars, pestilences (AIDS, Ebola, etc.) and Christians are persecuted and murdered with systematic regularity. Makes ya thank!
Now, as for the attack here in Dallas this week, I thank God for the quick-acting traffic officer who ended the whole thing before it even really got started. He killed the two gunmen before they could harm anyone, but the weapons they had were carrying tremendous fire power. They could have slaughtered hundreds!
Still, I have to ask this? Just what did the organizers of that "art exhibit" expect? A "draw Mohammed" contest? Really? Why not just put up a sign, and ads on TV, saying "Jihadists, here's your change to murder a bunch of infidels." Why do they insist upon poking the bear? Right or wrong, those people honor Mohammed, and such a thing is offensive to them, just as disrespectful movies and other portrayals of Jesus anger me. I don't pick up an AK-47 and go out and shoot somebody over it, because that's not what Jesus taught, but it is what some Islamists do, and since we know that, why deliberately provoke them? I have to question the motives of people who produce such things. It is not what Christ would want them to do.
Well, that was free - no charge. Folks, pray for this nation. We are in deep trouble. --Romeena

Poor little thing, she was really glad to see me. Good morning, porch! Maude, my apologies. I just read back through and realized I never actually said the "Happy Birthdays" that were in my mind. That happens to us old folks sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad you had a good day.
Gotta get ready to go teach a little English to some folks, and have a home health visit to make this afternoon. The weather looks like it could just be really tacky today. I hope it holds off. There's been some mention of hail, and if I get my car beat up I'm not going to be a happy camper. However, the most recent hour-by-hour forecast doesn't mention it, so maybe it will be okay. I hope so.
Because of her tooth extractions, Toye Starr has to take an antibiotic for ten days, and she's not happy about it. I mixed it with a little ice cream last night, and she eventually ate it, but it took some coaxing. I don't have much time this morning, so I hope she'll cooperate, the little rascal.

But i hadnt been to a track meet in years, so i enjoyed watching shot put, discus, broad jump, dashes etc.
I will post some photos on FB. I have one of those cameras that will do quick sequential shots.

Asa, are you getting your garden in too? It's still a little early around here for that yet.
Romeena, I hope your puppy is doing ok, and no infection set in. I started some of my seeds in trays where I can move them into the sun, my sunflowers have started to peek thru the soil. Not any activity on the iris's yet, I hope the make the transition ok. Everybody have a Great day...

Good morning, porch. Cloudy here today, heavy rain predicted for later. The air is so thick and humid you feel like you need a straw to breathe!
MDC, I know what you mean about the privileges of retirement. I call it "Perks." Eloise and I have had some wonderful times, watching our grandsons play baseball. Our oldest, Landry, was just a skinny little kid in a baggy uniform, playing t-ball, the day he squatted at third base, playing with a bug. He never knew it when a third base drive went right over his head, missing him by about two inches. Thank God he didn't look up right then, it would have flattened his nose! That kid is now 14, and can walk up and rest his chin on the top of my head, and if a ball comes his way these days, he definitely will catch it.
Toye Starr's antibiotic is neither pill nor capsule, it's liquid, and it smells funny. Last night, I mixed it into her Beneful, and she ate it. Sniffed it a bit first, but she ate it. Much easier than all that sugar and ice cream stuff. She's usually pretty good about taking pills and things. I just put a dab of peanut butter on them, and she takes them. There was one that must have really tasted foul a couple of years ago, but I put it in a chunk of tuna (that smell will overcome anything) and she took it. The real blessing with her is that she doesn't fight me over eye drops. She gets little itchy eyes now and then, and I think she knows the drops help, because when she sees me with the little bottle, she'll come to me and wait for the drops. No wiggling, nothing, just stands and lets me drop the medicine in. Gotta love her!
Well, better rustle up a little lunch. Or not. I'm really not hungry, maybe I'll just skip it. I can afford to miss a few calories! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

All this talk about watching nephews and grandsons compete in organized sports brings back some sad memories for me. One of my nephews was on his high school's varsity baseball team that won the state championship one year. Although I enjoyed going to his games, the sad part was that the coach never played him. He sat on the bench as an alternate during the entire series. It hurt me not to have anything to praise him about for helping his team achieve that state title. Had I been the coach, I would have figured out how to give all the players some playing time during that championship series to give them all a sense of accomplishment.

Preach on, PH. You're absolutely right. In the major and minor leagues, where the players are paid, that's a different thing, and it's all about winning. Anything below paid teams, whether it's t-ball or high school, there's a different ethic there, and every player should have an opportunity to play at some point. It's inevitable that some kids are going to be better at a given sport than others, but they should at least be given a chance to try. Maybe a kid isn't the best player, but everyone on the team deserves a chance to get a little experience. That's where improvement comes from. Sometimes they surprise you. I'm sorry your nephew didn't have a coach with a little more understanding and kindness in his heart.

Hey PH, Years ago when I was coaching baseball and football, I had two rules. well three rules.
1. Obey all rules
2. Anyone who shows up for the game will get some playing time.
3. Those who come to practice will start the game.
#3 caused a lot of problems for me at times. Usually not from the kid, but the parents. I had one kid who was just a natural talent. Very gifted. The trouble was he knew it. And he carried himself that way. The bigger problem was his parents, and mostly his Mother knew he was good. And she would really lay into me when her precious didn't start a game. In spite of my clearly telling both the players and his parents what my rules were, she would really let me know what she thought of me. It was too bad, because it really ruined it for all of us. Her gifted athlete son would play, he just wouldn't start, because he figured he didn't need to practice. In all honesty, he was right. He was just that good. But I told him, and his Mom. that was my rule and they needed to abide by it. But my feelings were it wasn't all about winning, but about building character and developing confidence in these young men. And I hope we did that.
Well it is Friday. Yipee! Guess I better get rolling. Supposed to rain today and tomorrow, so I will have to see what I do today.
Prayers for all,
Asa

Good evening, porch. You're right, TOM, the rain helps the critters. They have to get water somewhere. I have four birdbaths in my yard, which I try to keep washed out and filled, and of course, there's the pond, but it's hard for the animals and birds to drink from it, since I had to put that net in place to keep the egrets from eating the fish. Still, there are the birdbaths. I haven't had to fill them in several days, the rain is keeping them full, and there hasn't been much sun, so there's no algae growing in them.
It's so sad, how some parents try to coach from the sidelines and yell at the kids, make ugly remarks, and all that stuff. It sure doesn't teach the kids much about good sportsmanship. David coaches an Upward Basketball team at their church, and even there, you get bad behavior. Of course, the aim of Upward is to bring in kids that don't normally go to church, so some of them come from pretty bad home situations, and some of the "church" parents can be pretty rude, too. At one game, a mom got so mad and irate, yelling at David and booing the kid he had put in, in her son's place. Actually, her kid wasn't feeling well, and David pulled him because he was afraid for him to keep playing if he was sick, but that didn't mean anything to her. She found out that Brittney was David's wife somehow. So she got up and went to the restroom, and when she returned she sat within about five feet of Brittney and just continued to make snotty remarks about the "stupid coach", and booed every call he made, until I thought Brittney was going to go mop the floor with her. She didn't, though. She stayed cool and ignored her. I was proud of her. The sad part was, her son was embarrassed by her behavior. He wouldn't look at her, and after the game, when she walked over to him, he turned his back to her and just looked at the floor. How sad.
We're having the most weird weather. Around nine, they were interrupting programming to announce a tornado watch until 3 a.m., predicting where they might hit (including where I am) and really sounding serious about it. Then around 11, they came back on and said the tornado watch was lifted, the storm had broken up. Go figure. I'm not complaining, I don't like big windstorms, let alone tornadoes, so I'm grateful. I just wonder how it can change so rapidly.
Well, guess I'll hit the hay. It's late. I'm trying to force myself to go to bed earlier and see if I can get my body clock reset, but it's not working. I guess I worked night shift for too many years, and I've just become a nocturnal animal. Possum, we ought to get together some time and have ourselves a party. --Romeena

RO--my guess would be a change in wind direction.?
ALL-with this sports talk, it reminds me of the baseball game TAGS ep. When helen shows her photo at the end, it shows that Opie was indeed safe, but if you pause the actual video of the scene at the plate, Opie really is tagged out.
So the photo was staged later.
Just a little trivia for ya all.

MDC, Floyd did one of his pod-casts on the subject: "Was he Out" awhile back, maybe PH can find it and post it here, it was a good discussion that night. Coaching and Umpiring is a tough job for sure...

And if you want to watch the scene with the close play in The Baseball Game episode of TAGS, cue it up to about 09:30 of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VGxn3ruex8
And if you cue it up to 23:30, you can Helen showing her photograph of the play to Aunt Bee. It looks nothing like the play we see at 09:30.

MDC, you have a sharp eye for catching that baseball play at home plate error. I'm surprised I never noticed it before.

Oops, that TAGS episode is titled The Ball Game, not The Baseball Game.
And that sentence about Helen should read "And if you cue it up to 23:30, you can SEE Helen showing her photograph of the play to Aunt Bee."
Sorry about that.

Hey, PH and ALL, I also just realized, as I watched the youtube video, that Helen is in the stands, behind the chainlink fence, so there's no way she could have taken such a clear photo anyway! ha
And PH is right, the whole scene is different!

MDC, once again, another nice catch; this time about Helen being behind a chain link fence supposedly when she took an unobstructed photograph of the controversial play at home plate. You should have been a detective.
I noticed something else that was strange. When I played Little League, we all had numbers on the backside of our uniforms to help identify us by the people watching the game. Why don't any of the players in this episode have numbers?

Hi everyone, sorry it has been so long. I have been working and busy, but the truth is, all I have to type on now is this laptop, and for some reason when I am on this site, and only this one, all of a sudden my posts will disappear and I cant get them back. It gets so frustrating because it happens almost every tme. usually occurs when I have to use the backspace button. I guess I could post in sections and type al ittle then post. I might try that.

They did finally get the AC working on the job, but it took three weeks. It was tough because we couldn't open any windows. So much better now, though.

Tomorrow will be my first Mother's Day without Mom, so I am missing her. Hope the porch moms have a lovely day tomorrow.
I have been watching some TAGS reruns lately and really enjoying them..even the colored eps.
Better hit the ironing board for some adventure sleeping.

Good Sabbath and happy Mom's day to all you dear Moms. Can you imagine how bad our messed up world would be if we didn't have our lovely Moms? Gosh, my Mom has been gone 38 years now, and I still think of her and miss her. Boo, this will be my Wife's first Mothers Day without her Mom also. I am sure it will be hard for you. I am glad you and your family are doing well though, and glad you checked in. I miss your posts.
MDC, we didn't get much over 50 here yesterday. Kind of had a drizzling rain all day. Mountains got snow above 8,000 ft. Much needed for sure. My lawn that was dead a month ago is now green and lush with all the rain and cool weather we have gotten.
GF, my first planting is up a couple of inches. I am ready to plant my second round this week sometime. Boy, there was a time I enjoyed working on them rooftop units. Especially on our buildings that have the flat pvc membrane roof. I could do what needed to be done, and then kick back and look at clouds and contemplate life. But now days with satellite and drones a feller gets to thinking he is being watched pretty close. Pretty sad day when you can't loaf a little bit. :)
Well I better go get ready for preachin'. I sure hope Possum is feeling better today. I understand she was "ailing" after the party the other day. She seemed fine at the party. Must have been something she ate. ;)

It's been 16 years since my own mother passed away. Not only do I still miss her, I still get teary eyed thinking about her. In my bedroom, I have a photo montage mounted on a poster board with many photos of both of my deceased parents. I went through all of our photo albums and chose the photos that depicted memorable moments from the time they met each other up through just a few months before they passed away. It helps me to keep these fond memories fresh in my mind.
Although I am aware that today is Mother's Day, I never believed in having one day each year to honor my own mother. I treated her every day like it was Mother's Day. She deserved it. RIP Mom ... I miss you.

So many kind words about Mom's, reminds me of Mitch Albom's book "For one more day" which speaks just to that topic. Yep, what we wouldn't we give to have just one more day with our Moms!... Mom was Super Hero that was able to leap tall buildings on a single bound, and still had time to make the best chicken-n-dumplings... May God Bless Them.. I guess he already did by making her a Mom... May we ALL honor them by "Acting Like Somebody!"... Amen?
Another beautiful day here, suppose to get to 89 again today, may have to fire up the A/C for the first time this year. Next week back to more "normal" weather. I hope the weather stay nice for the Mayberry event in Danville Indiana. I will be sure to tell Floyd "Hey" from ya all. Maybe Papa Bear will show up.
Rodney Dillard, Charlene Darling, and Don Knotts's Daughter Karen are the guests. If you are interested check out "Mayberry in the Midwest" site. Possum, I will be sure to give Floyd a shout-out for your since you have been so kind in giving shout outs to the Miles for me. Better R-U-N-N-O-F-T.."O Brother"...lol

Good morning, porch. Boy, have we got the weather this morning! Big old growlers rumbling through the sky, rain falling like it's being poured out of buckets, sky looks like somebody painted it "battleship gray", and errant flashes of lightning now and then. It's so dark that all my photosensor-controlled lights are on. I just checked the hourly report on the weather, and severe storms (like this one isn't?) are predicted from 2 pm until 7 pm. I'm debating whether to go to church, and then over to Eloise's for the rest of the day. I don't mind getting wet, but if there's hail in any of this, and there could be, and my pet car gets beat up, I will not be a happy camper. At home, it's in the garage, safe and sound. Decisions, decisions!
Well, better get dressed, anyway. Boo, it's good to see you. Glad things are going well. About that post disappearing thing, I'm betting there's a key on that laptop that you're hitting, and you're not aware of it. I hate laptop keyboards, they're so crowded, and I always have trouble with them. Also, there's something on this ergonomic keyboard I use that wipes everything out once in a while, and I've never figured out what it is. Very annoying. If I hit that thing by mistake, poof! Well, blessings, everyone, and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, step-moms, grandmothers and loving aunts on the porch! --Romeena
