Yea, I'm hoping Boo is ok. She has been awful quiet and she was saying she wasn't feeling so good. Maybe it's just a touch of the pip.

Gosh MDC, even we hit 100 yesterday. Running about 20 degrees above average. Still trying to play catch up at work.

June 11, 2013 - Msg 93806: I'm here..maybe it was a touch of the pip, Asa...whatever that is? ;) I have been ok, just busy the last couple of days. On Sunday, Bruce started having dizziness and vertigo. He thought he was better and went to work yesterday but had to come home. I took him to the doc and they did an ekg and found his heart rate was in the 40's for some reason and thought that might be causing the dizziness, so he sent him for some tests. Everything tested ok but he has an appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow. I think it is something in his inner ear causing the problem. He normally has a pretty slow heart rate but not sure if anything is going on there. He isn't on any meds that would cause the low heart rate. So...he is home today and will be tomorrow, too, until we can get him straightened out. Thankfully, I am feeling better so I can take care of things.

Thanks for the breakfast and lunch Maude and Spot.

June 11, 2013 - Msg 93812: Good evening, porch. Friends, we are in serious trouble. When has there ever been a time in America when a microphone would be turned off because the speaker mentioned the name of God? Or because the speaker gave thanks to God for his Christian upbringing? I have one question. If the speaker had been a Muslim, and had started giving thanks to Allah and praising Mohammed, would the mic still have been turned off? I doubt it. Why wouldn't it have been? Because the Islamists would have started a screaming, bomb-throwing war over it, declaring they were "insulted" and demanding an apology. And they would have received one. America is running scared, and it sickens me. "Political correctness" is only invoked against Christians, whites, straights, and conservatives. Anyone who doesn't fit in there somewhere has carte blanche to claim discrimination, harassment, insult, whatever, and our government bends itself into a knot trying to placate and appease them. Again, it sickens me. You're right, MDC, this is not the America I grew up in. I'll be the first to admit that there were some serious wrongs in that America, such as segregation, but that has been made right. We've come a long way. We still have a little way to go, but we'd get that done a lot faster if Jackson, Farrakhan and the rest of the pot-stirrers would sit down and shut up. The statistics just aren't there to support their cries of injustice and inequality, but they keep trying. Actually, the statistics disprove their contentions, and then there's Mr. Obama in the White House. Well, I'd better shut up myself, before I get on somebody's watch list.

Glad you're feeling better, Boo, and I hope Bruce gets over the vertigo thing. That is so miserable. I've only had it a few times, but I sincerely hope I never have it again. Wretched stuff.

I just got a check for $8.53 in the mail today, from a class action suit involving American Express. I have no idea why I got it, because I don't even have an American Express card, but there it is, addressed to me, and guess what? I'm gonna cash it! Every little bit helps.

Well, suppertime is here, according to Toye Starr. I've gotten the cold, wet nose on the ankle treatment, so I assume she's hungry. She nudges me when she wants something, and it's about time for supper to be the object of her attention right now. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

We tried the dried molasses thing on them last year and this, I think but it doesn't faze them. June 12, 2013 - Msg 93816: Good Morning Porch Friends!

I really have missed you but between Baseball and my new job I have just been too busy to stop and rock a while; and when you get that busy you need stop and slow down and as the guest preacher from NY said ask yourself "what's your hurry" although I prefer Rev. Tucker he always preaches on sin that is one subject you can't preach enough about...sin.

I am right there with you Ro and MDC this 'new' America is not what our forefather's envisioned when they came here and it certainly is not what our fighting men and women have died for over the years. Christian people need to put their denomination preferences aside and realize we worship the one true God and unite together and stand up for our rights and speak out when our rights are stepped upon just as the other 'religions' do. Sometimes I believe that Christian people as a whole feel that we must meek and timid but that is far from what Jesus is and what He did when he physically walked this earth; there is such a thing as a righteous anger that was demonstrated by God and Jesus (remember the money changers and the rearrangement of the temple furniture that Jesus did). When things are being done that hurt God's people and promotes the agenda of the evil one that is when God's people are to step up and speak loud and clear for God and for our rights as God Fearing Law abiding citizens of the greatest country on Earth. God has richly Blessed this nation but we can't expect to continue to receive His Blessings if we are too scared or timid to stand up for our beliefs and proclaim the Glory of God and His Blessings.

Stepping down from my soap box now...

Happy to hear you are doing well Boo and we will certainly pray for Bruce that he will experiencing healing too!

Continue prayers and thoughts for your business partner Maude!

Sounds like your trip was a wonderful experience Ro and I can just picture Toye Starr holding court in her royal chariot just as the royalty does in England. I agree with MDC; read that fine print before you cash that check as many scams work that in that you are giving your consent for something by just cashing the check.

very tired this morning as we have been at the ball park every night until 9:30 or 10:00 each night then back up at 5:00 for work the next morning; so home seems like a motel for me where I just shower and sleep...LOL We have about two more weeks then we have a small break until late August when the boys start Fall Baseball...no rest for the weary! We do have some family coming in the week after the fourth in July so I am taking some time that week for a 'staycation' that week; we aren't able to financially take a vacation where we travel to Florida as we normally do but we are going to stay home and enjoy some of the acivities closer to home. We have never done that before but we think it should be fun as we have several attractions near us including water and amusement parks and we plan taking a day on the lake too! We love movies so there are several good Summer block buster movies that will be in theaters during that time that we all want to see.

My goodness sorry for the novel; miss a few days here on the porch and when I get back you can't shut me up!

June 13, 2013 - Msg 93833: Yes, it is shaping up to be a hot summer, for sure SMH! It has been here and the humidity makes it so much worse...it stays in the 90 to 100% range all summer here on the Texas coast. Its like breathing hot water on some days. Hate it. I am already dreaming of November when we will get our first little cold front. It will only last a day or two and bring the temps down to the 70's if we are lucky. I always start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas somewhere in the middle of summer for some reason, and then when it really gets here I'm not in the mood for it. I am going to have to do something different this year for thanksgiving to shake things up a little. I am getting bored with the same old thing. I am thinking of hosting some singles from the church or something...maybe some of the girls from the shoreline drug ministry who have to no family to go to. I am planning ahead to avoid the frenzy! ;)

We had such a great Christmas season and new years last time because we included so many of our friends in it. So much fun!

Better get going...have my follow up appointment with the doc this morning. Hopefully that will be the last. By the way, Bruce did see the cardiologist yesterday and he scheduled him for a nuclear stress test on Tuesday to check him out. Of course, I don't put alot of faith in them because he had them before, checked out ok, and ended up having a serious blockage that wasn't detected. Anyway, its time to have a check up, anyway. It won't do him any harm.

Better git!

Boo

June 13, 2013 - Msg 93834: Good morning, porch. Yep, it's hot here too. It's 85° at 11:00, and will make the upper 90s by late afternoon. I'm fighting the algae in the pond again. Darn it, that pond is just beautiful when the water is clear, but not too pretty when it's murky. I put a flocculant in it yesterday, which turns the green water all milky-looking, but by this morning, it should be cleared up. In case you don't know, and you probably don't if you don't keep a pond, a flocculant is a chemical that causes all the little particles of algae to clump together, and when they do, they get too heavy to float and settle to the bottom. The water will become crystal clear. It's a balancing act, to keep that water clear. There's a UV light on one of the pump lines, and the water passes through that light chamber. The UV kills the algae as it passes through, but then the dead particles are still suspended in the water. Without the UV, the algae multiplies until the water actually gets soupy. I use some Algae-fix as well, a chemical that kills algae. The two things keep the multiplying down somewhat, but there are still the suspended particles murking up the water. So, the flocculant clumps them and drops them to the bottom. There, the pumps pick up some of it and catch it in filters. In the late afternoon, as the water gets warmer, a lot of the dead stuff floats to the surface, and just lays there in big rafts of dead algae. I have a net with a mesh so fine that it will trap that, and I can scoop it from the surface. The pond is a lot of work in the summer, but when those beautiful koi come to me and wait for me to feed them, it's worth it. They are so graceful, and so pretty.

Joe and I got the birdbath re-do done yesterday. The hollowed-out rock that didn't work out as a birdbath has once again become a planter, and is full of green and purple potato vine. In a week, that stuff will be trailing everywhere. The brass bowl I bought in Fredbg is perfect. I put a rock in the middle for the birds to land on, and it also holds the bowl down so it won't tip over. The birds have already found it, and seem to like it. Sure does look pretty, and is lovely at night, with the light I've got on it.

Well, Eddie just came into the backyard with his edger, and Jorge came by to finish up some stuff that he and Joe did yesterday, guess I'd better go pay Eddie, and Jorge will be needing some lunch. I'll go get us a burger in a little while. Eddie usually doesn't eat when he's working, says it weighs him down, but it's not hard to talk Jorge into having a hamburger. Also, I need to caution him - he's trimming a large ligustrum shrub, that needs trimming, but I also know it houses a family of cardinals. I want to be sure they're not disturbed.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 13, 2013 - Msg 93835: OK, this is funny, and I have to share it. You remember that I've converted the big hollow rock back to a planter, since it didn't work too well as a birdbath. It was too deep, and almost impossible to wash out. It needed washing out almost daily, because the birds, especially the grackles, bring bits of dog food, bread and other stuff that people put out, and they'll dunk it in the water to soften it so they can eat it. Of course, pieces fall off and it doesn't take long for the water to be really foul. Well, the rock is now filled with dirt and newly-planted potato vine. As I sat here watching just now, a big boat-tail grackle flew in with what appeared to be a piece of a cracker in his beak. He lit on the edge of the rock, and bent his head downward like he was going to dunk his cracker. He stopped, raised his head, then bent down again, then up again. He was clearly wondering just where on earth the water went? A potato vine was blocking his view of the new birdbath, which is beside the rock, and sort of tucked under it a little bit. Anyway, he sat there, cracker in beak for a minute, tried to dunk once again and literally hit dirt, then just flew away, carrying his cracker. I just sat here laughing at the sight. I'd love to hear his little birdie conversation, as he tells the others about the changes that have been made at the ol' dunkin' hole. Critters are a never-ending source of entertainment. --Romeena

Good visit with my doctor and friend. God a great report and a "You're the best patient ever. Boo, Bruce most definitely needs to be on CoQ10. I take it faithfully, with my cardiologist's full blessing, in fact with his insistence.

Asa, bless your heart. You're carrying so much, I wish you didn't have health problems yourself on top of everything else. Prayers for you and all the ailing porchsters and families.

Toye Starr has an appointment with a groomer in the morning, poor little thing. She has never been to a groomer, I've always taken care of her myself, and I go slowly and carefully with the comb so her hair isn't pulled. She's so tiny, and seems to have fairly tender skin, so I'm very careful. I've decided to take her to a groomer and let them just clean her up a little, using scissors to even off the wispies, and contour her coat a bit to follow the lines of her little body. Not a puppy cut, her hair isn't thick enough to support a short cut, but just to get the trailing stragglies out of the way. I combed her out just now, so there shouldn't be any matting for them to struggle with tomorrow. Poor baby is going to be devastated when I leave her. She's only been left like that once, when I left her at the vet to have her teeth cleaned. She doesn't like for me to leave her even in a familiar place with people she trusts. She is definitely not going to like being left with the groomer. She'll probably do her little wooo-wooo serenade the whole time. That should make her really popular, I'm sure.

Well, I'm off to bed. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

She was a little (well, a lot) nervous when I left her, and very glad to see me when I returned, but she didn't seem to be fearful of the staff at all, and gave a little kiss to the one who handed her to me. That makes me feel much better about leaving her there. We'll probably do this again every few months.

Hot, hot, hot here. It's 94°, with a hazy, cloudy sky. No breeze, not a leaf stirring. The air is heavy and humid, and makes me very grateful for a/c.

Well, I think I'll go curl up in my chair and let Toye Starr cuddle up for a nap. She's lying on the floor by my chair, and keeps looking at me. I know perfectly well what she wants. She's a spoiled little baby, and I think that's okay. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Its hot here, too, but overcast. The humidity is high and I just went by the dollar store to get a few things and avoid the crowds at the grocery store. The air was out and it was at least 95 degrees in the store because it felt much cooler outside. Crazy! I had to come home and take a shower. I took the kids to the community pool for awhile this afternoon and they enjoyed that, but after doing laundry and such all day I am pooped. I will be taking it easy the rest of the evening! :)

June 14, 2013 - Msg 93847: What do they charge for a dollar at the Dollar Store? $1.25, I'll bet. --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93848:
RO and others...did you have AC when growing up?
We may have talked of this before, but I grew up with just a swamp cooler, and some hot summer days it just didnt do much, so we would wet bedsheets, wrap them around us, and sleep on the grass in the back yard. Also, whatever pioneer decided to stop in this area and say, "Let's stay" must have been either loco, or he came thru on a "cold" January day! haha
Tomorrow my brother announces his candidacy for the
45th congressional district in California!

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93849: I think what our mystery commenter was referring to was that sometimes they have, say, 2 of something for $1, so buying one would naturally be 50 cents.
At least, that's what I THINK the mystery poster was referring to. I've never seen anything cost more than a dollar at the dollar store, unless you are including the tax.

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93850: Hey MDC!
If your brother has the same smarts, common sense, and morals that you do, then he has my vote. (If I lived in California) ;)

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93851: Good morning, porch. Sterling, on my end of the porch, I have seen some larger, more expensive items at the Dollar Store, for more than a dollar. A coffee maker, for example. The price will be quite cheap, but more than a dollar. Granted, this doesn't occur often, and may not be the practice in all their stores.

Ditto your comment to MDC. We most definitely need some people in Congress who will uphold the Constitution, and exercise some plain old common sense, and I'm thinking California really needs an overhaul in that department. I'm eagerly looking ahead to 2016, but with fear and trepidation, because the field of possible candidates is so grim. One man is beginning to look good, and I hope he doesn't disappoint. I'm like Rand Paul more and more, especially after seeing this video: http://www.youtube.com/embed/svGDZOW-brA?rel=0. I'll bet the left side of the aisle wanted to throw things at him. He seems sincere. I just hope he doesn't fizzle out.

Well, I'm off to get some errands done. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93853: Good grief! I went to page source, and saw what I did - what was I thinking??? --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93854: And that should have been "I'm likING Rand Paul", not "like". OK, I'm going back to bed now. I think I'm not well. --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93855: No mystery on the commenter Sterling...G-F just forgot to sign off...So it was not a interloper.
I'm just sayin I went to Dollar General and bought some ice cream and it cost me more than a dollar.
MDC, I agree with SH I think Cauleforneya need a lot of help!...Like my Arnold Schwatznager impression? "I'll be bauck"!

G-F.....

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93856: Oh no, I wasn't thinking you were an interloper, G-F, just maybe a visitor. I know there are people who read the porch doings but don't regularly post, and I just thought it was one of them.

I guess Dollar General must be different that our Dollar Trees we have then. They never have anything for over $1.
Now we have a Family Dollar, and though you might think they are a dollar store by the name, some of their stuff is more expensive than the stuff you can get at Walmart. They are definitely not a "just a dollar" dollar store.

-Sterling Holobyte

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93857: True statements, up there. Some of the "dollar" stores have nothing that costs more than a dollar, and some have larger items for more than a dollar at times, and I can never remember which one has what. Here in the Dallas area, we have all the stores you all have listed, and I think a few more. Sometimes you can go in and find some bargains, and other times all there is, is junk. I do know, it appears that a town can't even get a charter as a town unless they have at least one dollar store. Also a Dairy Queen and an Ace Hardware. Those seem to be strict requirements.

Well, I've got to go tend to some ants. A huge colony has sprung up at my back door, and judging by the pile of sand they have erected against the threshhold, some of the patio flagstones should be falling in before long. Those stones were set on a bed of sand for leveling, and it looks like the ants have moved most of it to the surface. Miserable things. I tried an orange oil drench, and it slowed them down for a few days, but now they're back and more vigorous than ever. So, my next line of defense is spinosad, which is still approved for organic yards, but should get the job done. I have to step over their hill when I go out the back door, and the little bump of the door opening and closing sends them scrambling. Getting out is fine, getting back in is a little harder, as they're all over the patio when I try to come back in. They appeared there after we put dry molasses, which they hate, on the lawn. The patio was one place we didn't spread it, of course, so they went there. I just hate the wretched little things, and am about to go do them a serious injury. I'm going to make up about two gallons of spinosad solution, and just flood the stones with it. It should run all down into their happy little home, and that should do it. I won't be able to get back in the back door, because they'll be swarming everywhere, and the door will be tightly closed to keep them from coming in the house. I'll just go around and enter through the garage. Haha, they're not long for this world!

See you all later. --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93858: Bwaahahahaha! I got 'em! Mixed up my little "tonic" poked the hills a time or two with a stick to see where the tunnels were, and poured the solution right down their throats. As the dirt washed away, a hole about the size of a quarter opened up, and I just poured about half a gallon of spinosad solution down that hole. I'm betting the ants are a thing of the past. Now, if my patio just doesn't cave in.... --Romeena

June 15, 2013 - Msg 93859: Where is TOM?? Maybe he went to Cleveland to watch a Indians game? They have a 8 game home stand going on right now...
They are also filming the next "Avengers" movie in Cleveland. Maybe TOM is being an "extra" in the movie? Hey TOM I talked to Dick Goddard today he sure is showing his age.....

I'm real proud of that boy! (:
MDC

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93861: You are having WAY too much fun with this ant thing, Romeena. Remind me not to get on your bad side. ;)

MDC, I went to your brother's website, read his platform and what his background is, and I just have one question: Can he run for President?
Seriously.
He is the kind of guy we need in Washington, though sadly with the way the GOP runs things he probably doesn't have a chance in hades of getting that far with them. He wouldn't be wishy-washy enough for them to nominate.

Now me, I totally agree with his platform, from "Obamacare" to gun control(don't know why some people have a problem with background checks at gun shows, that's just common sense to me), and everything in between.
Yeah, too bad I don't live in California.
Well, actually I am glad I don't live in California, but you know what I mean.

G-F, that would be neat if Tom was going to be an extra. I remember when I heard they would be filming parts of the gangster movie "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp here in Wisconsin, I kept scouring this one website, FilmWisconsin, to find out if they would ever be filming in a location that I would have been able to get to in a reasonable amount of time, on account of I was working when they filmed that here, but they never did. I just thought it would be neat to even have a little bitty part in a movie.

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93862: Romeena, Maybe ya just need to buy yourself a Anteater, you call 1-800-got-ants...You can't but them at the "Dollar" store because they will cost more than a dollar....

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93863: ...GF forgot again to sign off....

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93864: Ro, I wish it were that easy to get rid of these cutter ants that are always destroying something around here. They stripped the leaves off all my landscape roses overnight, knocked out a row of okra and there is no stopping them. Dried molasses don't keep them out of things, either. Bruce has read and read on the subject and they are a menace to so many people around here. It seems impossible to get rid of them and you never know when/where they are going to strike. Such a pain.

Really neat about your brother, MDC!

Speaking of Johnny Depp, Sterling, I saw the trailor to the new Disney movie, "The Lone Ranger" and I think it looks good. There hasn't been a movie out in the theatre that I have wanted to see in years, but I want to see this one. Depp plays Tonto, interestingly. It comes out July 3rd, I think.

Boo

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93865: "doesn't" keep them out of everything, rather...hate those kinds of typos...makes me feel like a hick. ;)

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93866: Good Sabbath porch family.
Hope everyone is well and happy.
I wonder what specimen is in greatest danger. Spiders under a grandstand, or ants under Romeena's porch? Just sayin... :)

I went to your Brother's wedsite MDC. Fine looking family, and I appreciate his platform. But in California I fear his chances for election are going to be tough, you know what I mean? But good on him for wanting to get into the battle and fighting for what's right. We need to see that. I do have some family in Orange County and I will be sure to pass along his name to them. Not sure if they are in that district, but I know they would like him.

G-F, You got a Harbour Freight by you anywhere? All this talk of dollar stores got me thinking of them. lol We have an automated gate at work that is always needing repair. I have dubbed it "the gate from Harbour Freight". Job security I guess.

I go see my cardiologist this week for a follow up. Have felt really good. Heart is doing good. Having some tummy aches but I suspect it's from the blood thinners he has me on. He wants me on them for a month or two as a precaution. So hopefully I can get off them soon.

Yesterday I was inspecting my garden and got disgusted. I have planted numerous rows of corn, and all but one look pitiful, or I should say looked pitiful. I tilled the rest under and replanted. Pretty late to be planting corn, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Well I better get going. My oldest daughter invited me to her house for breakfast for Daddy's day.

Happy Fathers day to all you Dads.

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93867: Good morning, porch. MDC, that's great about your brother. I really hope he gets elected. We need as many voices of reason as we can get. Sterling, as recently as about seven yhears ago, I would have agreed with you completely regarding background checks, but now, I'm not so sure. I can understand someone buying one off the record. It has reached the point where I am afraid of how the information would be used. Isn't that sad? Still, you don't want someone with a history of instability to be running around with a gun. However, just because they can't buy one legally without a check doesn't keep them from buying one illegally. Or making a bomb. Scary. Seems there's no easy answer.

MDC, they look like fire ants, but they're not as aggressive as fire ants generally are, so I'm not sure. Whatever they are, it's more like "were" now. There are little ant bodies all over my patio! Fire ants generally build their mounds up about six to eight inches high, with a base diameter of around a foot. These guys built about three inches high, with a long, narrow base, but that was because they were building on the patio and bringing the dirt up between the flagstones. They followed the open spaces between the stones. So, it's hard to tell. Whatever they are, I don't want to have to step over them to get out my back door. Thus - adios, hormigas! Boo, I'm sorry about those leaf-cutter ants. They would be extremely hard to deal with. Your only hope, I think, would be to follow their little parade until you locate their nest. I'm pretty sure it would be just a hole in the ground, and almost impossible to find unless you can follow the ants. You might have to follow them quite a distance, too. However, if you can find them, just pour a gallon of spinosad solution down into the hole. Should get 'em, at least that colony.

Well, better get moving. Blessings, all. --Romeena

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93868: I can see your point about background checks at gun shows. It is sad and disturbing that we even have to worry about our own government using our personal information against us, but that certainly is where we are now with these intrusive, dictatorial creeps in office.
I still think everyone should be "up in arms" so to speak about the tremendous overreach and privacy intrusions, to say nothing of this administration using it's own(our own, supposedly) agencies to "punish" people and groups who don't agree with them and to keep themselves in power. Even if people think it is not going to affect them, sooner or later this kind of government will find a way to trample on their rights too. Dictatorships always do.

I will end on this one last comment on background checks by putting it this way. I have no problem with good, honest, stable people buying guns "off the record" as you put it. Like you said, there is no easy answer. How do you tell who is good, honest and stable without delving a little into their background... and then keep the government from sticking their noses into our business?! Looks like we need to go back to the day when a handshake was a person's word of honor. Though that would never fly with lawyers around. I don't know of too many lawyers who understand - or practice - the word, honor.

-Sterling Holobyte

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93869: You're right, Ro..those cutter ants make holes that are sometimes several feet in. Bruce has found a couple of them and ran the water hose way in there and blasted away. It didn't really work for long. I have never heard of spinosad but I will pass that on to Bruce, thanks.

Been a good Father's Day. We went to church and came home and had a good lunch. I made chicken and rice, asparagus, corn, deviled eggs and rolls. We had chocolate cake for dessert...Bruce's favorite. Mom-in-law ate with us for the first time in awhile and she behaved herself, thankfully! :)

I wanted to take a nap but just couldn't quite fall asleep..probably for the best so I can sleep tonight. I didn't do so well last night...one of those nights when you toss and turn and wake up alot.

Boo

June 16, 2013 - Msg 93870: Romeena, About those Aunts...Ya try in fluxing them with some Uncles? Never can say enough about family...But then again I suppose they could also be cousins I guess...pestilences, no matter who they are related to, they must be some kind of hybrid "in-law" ant is what I'm thinking...

G-F.....

June 17, 2013 - Msg 93871: Good evening, porch. I trust all you dads, granddads, and stand-ins for dads had a great Father's Day. I had a good day here, even though there's no longer a dad in this household. As for those uncles that might be holed up with the "aunts" on my back patio, I suspect they're all gone to that big anthill in the sky by now. At least I hope so.

Sterling, I think we're on the same page. It's hard to know what to do, or what to think anymore. I know, I know, they say they only want to limit the sale of multi-round weapons, and the arguments for that idea sound good, if that's as far as it goes. But the current events make me wonder - where will it end? I'm sorry, I just don't trust my government anymore. I haven't changed, but they have. Who knew it would ever come to this?

Boo, flooding the holes those cutter ants live in will only scatter them. They'll abandon that hole, carry their larvae away, and establish new colonies wherever they find a place. The only solution is to kill them before they can scatter. Spinosad supposedly will do that, and yet is still okay in an organic environment. If you're not concerned about the use of non-organic pesticides, then there are many on the market. Do a little research, decide what you want to use, follow the directions to the letter, and do battle. Darned if I'd let the miserable things ruin my roses and my food plants. The good thing about treating for ants, especially that kind, is you treat at their base, not in and around your garden.

Eloise and I went to the Fair Park Music Hall and saw a production of "Sister Act" after church today. It was wonderful! The lead (Deloris) had an amazing voice, and the rest of the cast was terrific as well. David and Brittney gave us tickets to four plays this year for Christmas, and this was the third one. We'll see "The Lion King", I think in October. Those kids are very creative in their choice of gifts every year.

Then we went back to Eloise and Jerry's house, and had a big old "low country boil." We had corn on the cob, scallops, shrimp, crab legs, and lobster tails, all cooked together in a big old steamer pot, and dumped out in a pile on paper on the table. Boy, was it good!!!

Well, I'm off to bed. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena
