Wow, G-F, it's been a long time since I saw that dance sequence. What a great job he did, what a talent! Come on, Mr. Tom, you know you enjoyed it. We gotta have rain, or everything will dry up. Might as well dance in it, and enjoy it. I've been known to work in the yard in the rain, pulling weeds or something. One time, when we had just moved into this house, we planted grass in the rain. The house was new, and the yard was just graded-off dirt. Dale had a big pallet of sod delivered, and we got our kids out in the yard to lay that sod out. Just as we started working, it began to rain. Not a gully-washer, but a pretty hard, steady rain. Dale told the kids to just keep planting! It was perfect! The dirt quickly turned to mud, and as we placed the rectangles of sod, we walked on them to push them down into the mud. We were a sodden, muddy mess, but the kids were having a ball, we were laughing and having so much fun. The grass loved it. It took hold immediately, and within a week, Dale was mowing it.
Well, better run. Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

Hey there Porch,
Sorry I've been MIA for awhile. I've been in the hospital from back fusion. I'm still recuperating. So far I can't feel my feet. Hopefully that is over soon as I can't walk or do much of anything. Quick update on life: Bryan still doesn't have a job. My stepson, Nick, has moved back in while still trying to decide about going into the army. We have 5 tall almost adults in a 1000 sq ft apartment. It feels like The Darlings mountain home! The other 2 kids seem to be doing ok.
Happy Belated Birthday to Maude!
Boo, I'm not sure what type of surgery you had, but speedy recovery for you too.
SMH, welcome to the porch! Your name in texting stands for Shake My Head. :)
MDC, thank you for checking in with me regarding my surgery.
John Masters, nice to see you back. Your leading of 14a has been inspiring me into slumber recently.
Poor Horatio, how's Canada treating you?
Asa, how's your meal planning going?
Romeena, I have a hummingbird feeder and only 1 bird has visited. Is this normal?
Y'all have a blessed Mother's Day tomorrow!

Gosh Lucy, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. You all sure will be in my prayers. Was the loss of feeling in your legs expected?
Glad your Dad had a good birthday MDC. What a milestone.
Spent the day in the yard and got a lot done. Didn't get the garden planted, but got it all tilled up and ready to go. The rule of thumb around here is not to plant anything tender until after Mothers Day because of frost. So I'm right on schedule I reckon.
Prayers for all.

I miss mine too, G-F. She's been gone fourteen years now, and it doesn't seem possible. I still have the occasional impulse to pick up the phone and call her when I need the answer to some question or other. She was very smart, and very wise. Those two are not the same thing, you know, but she possessed both intelligence and wisdom. She was also very kind, and had a loving heart.
Each of my kids, in their turn, moved out of this house and into hers, for varying lengths of time. Dale said it was "Mamaw's Finishing School", which was hilarious. Each gave their own excuse for the move (one son said it was closer to his job at the airport - it was, by about two miles) and one daughter flatly stated she "had to have some freedom!" Uh-huh. Mom's curfew was earlier than ours, and she held them to a much, much higher standard of neatness in their bedroom. No, it was little birds wanting to try their wings, so they stepped from the nest onto the safest, strongest branch they could find. From there, they eventually flew. One flew back to the nest for a while, but sure enough, the relationship was a little different, because he was a little different, more responsible. It was a funny little plan, but it worked. What the kids didn't know, or maybe didn't care, was that Mom and I talked daily and compared notes and shared updates. Yes, I miss her. She and my dad were deeply in love, and they both instilled my Christian faith in me when I was very young, and those two things were the greatest gifts a child can receive.
Lucy, my dear, you have been through the mill, bless your little heart. I pray you'll be on the mend very soon.
Boo, this too shall pass. The actual pain from the surgery - the hurting when you're being still - should be about gone. The soreness - the pain that comes when you move - will fade very soon. You know, as I do, that in order to remove a cyst that large, they had to do some engineering in your insides, and you're gonna be sore! In a few days, you're going to feel a whole lot better.
It is such a beautiful day. It's 65° and warming, azure sky, high filmy wisps of clouds, gentle breeze, and still a lot of flowers blooming. Most of my irises are done, but one spectacular late bloomer has decided to put on a show. I've forgotten its name, but it has bright golden yellow standards, and the falls are deep burgundy. Sure is a pretty thing. The roses are starting to face, but there are still quite a few and they're so pretty. Robbi and I will prune them in a few days, and they'll flush out again in a month or so. The daylilies are showing buds, so they'll be pretty very soon. Of course the bedding stuff - petunias and snapdragons mostly - are going strong. Along the long side of the rose island that faces my window, there's a line of white petunias, about twelve feet long and a foot and a half deep. They're mostly white, with some purple and white picotees mixed in, and then behind that there's a single row of yellow and red snapdragons. They're a little taller than the petunias, and make such a pretty backdrop. That line of color really "pops" when I look out there. Pretty things.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on the porch, and to those who are not actually moms, but who provide the vital support that all moms need and appreciate - the aunts, cousins and good friends. Let's not forget the stepmoms, for there are many who have helped children weather upheaval and pain, and once accepted, have proven themselves worthy of the title of "mom". Not "mother", for that is a matter of biology, but surely a mom. There are so many who have handled it with such patience and grace, and they deserve to be recognized for it.
Well, off I go. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Me again, and do I ever have news!! You'll recall my problems with the ID theft, related to my 2011 income tax return. Someone filed using my identifiers, which caused my own return to be rejected, and the sizable refund I have coming (over $4k) was not available to me. In talking with the IRS, I learned that they have also filed for 2012, so there was not even any point in my filing that one. I've batted this around with them for months now, my CPA has tried to work with them - no luck.
So, I wrote my congressman, Sen. John Cornyn. I got a polite letter back, stating he would look into it. I wasn't terribly hopeful. Well, today I checked yesterday's mail, and found a letter from the senator, stating that he had received a call from the IRS, telling him that the issue has been resolved, and I will have my refund by May 16, with interest, yet! Imagine that! So, thank you, Lord, and thank you, Sen. Cornyn. This money couldn't have come at a better time. I am one happy little camper right now! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Interestingly, Ro, I only had pain the first day of my surgery...it was a mentrual cramp-type pain in my lower abdomen..it was only severe in the recovery room and was completely gone by that night. After that day there was never any pain when i was at rest, only terrible soreness when I moved around, got out of a chair, etc. I have never had one bit of incisional pain. It feels like soreness in the abdominal muscles and internal soreness. That is even nearly gone now. I haven't needed pain meds today and have been up walking, took a shower and feel fine. I think the toughest part has been trying to heft my weight in the bed..turning and getting in and out of there, but that is getting much easier.
Ro, I love that story about your kids living with your parents for a season. I hope someday my grandkids will want to try that with me. My kids won't have the opportunity to live with either of their living grandmas. Happy Mother's Day to you, by the way, and a big congratulations on the tax return success!! Thanks God!

Good Morning Porch Family...I hope all Mothers and Mother Figures had a great Mother's Day; my own precious Mom has been in Heaven now 11 years but the Lord Blessed with a fabulous MIL who really loves me as her own. Enjoyed a great day with my family yesterday and we had great weather on this end of the porch all be it was a little cool.
Hey TOM I am in the great state of Tennessee just north of Nashville Music City USA
Hello LUCY we have you in our prayers and you may have more than you can handle and that is OK because the LORD is right there for you to lean on...He has you in His hands. The text version or meaning of my Porch Name is pretty accurate as most people walk away shaking their heads after speaking with me...LOL
Good News BOO that you are feeling so well and getting the rest you need but don't push it too much give your body all the time it needs to heal.
NN that is a wonderful testimony of the work you did in Jesus Name in Honduras; our hat is off to you and prayers lifted up for the Blessing you were to those people.
I loved the story and idea of your children RO taking that first step by staying with their Grandmother before moving into the world on their own...I wish my boys could do that with their Grandparents but they will not be able too but maybe as BOO said my wife and I will be able to do it for our Grandchildren...wow that seemed strange to type "our Grandchildren" I can't be getting that old...LOL
I am so happy to hear about your good news with the IRS RO! We had a friend that had exactly the same thing happen to her and she has been getting nothing but the run around from the IRS but we will definitely tell her about your happy ending and I hope her Senator is as responsive as yours!
Good quiz question MDC and your question too RO; I think I know who they are but I am not sure about the navels unless we are talking about oranges here...LOL!
Hey SPOT and BOO on a gardening note - since our ballgames were cancelled Saturday because of the Friday night rains we had the family worked out in the yard and we planted some tomatoes (Better Boys for slicing and eating and Roma for making salsa), Sweet Bananna Peppers, squash, cucumbers and zuchinni. I know it is nothing to compare to your gardens but since we live in a subdivision that is about all the room we have but when we owned a larger lot (3 arces) we had all that in larger quantities with Corn, green beans, beets, carrots, potatoes, lettuce, cabbage, pumpkins, watermelons and cantaloupes. I really miss those big gardens working it together as a family and all those delicious fresh vegetables to eat as well. My wife, Connie, would freeze and can the surplus for the winter plus I can't tell how much we gave away to family and friends too.
We also put out some rose bushes, snowball bush, a crepe myrtle, hydrangeas, petunias and some wedding bells ground cover plants too; the flowers and plants were Connie's Mother Day presents. I thought about you RO and mentioned your beautiful backyard to my family and although ours will be nothing like yours it sure will be fun tending to the plants together and enjoying some of God's beautiful creations in our own yard.
Well I better get some work done; my last day here is Thursday and I will spend time with Connie and the boys on Friday before I start my new job Monday 5/20...keep us in your prayers please!
Prayers and Blessings for a Mayberry kinda' day for everyone!

SMH..you reminded me that I wanted to plant some cucumbers and zucchini squash. In my foggy brain, I forgot all about it. Maybe I can still get bruce to do it....I just asked him and he said he would. :) Last year we tried pumpkins and they only gave us faux blooms, never any pumpkins. I don't think they like the climate down here. Our lettuce didn't turn out well, either. It was so bitter that the goats wouldn't even eat it...no idea why...something about the soil, perhaps. Bruce is going to try some cantaloupes and has them planted but I don't know how they will do. I plan to do some canning and freezing by the end of the summer. I have a big pressure canner and love to can.
Our landscape rose bushes that we put in last year weren't doing so well but after bruce re-did the flowerbeds and fertilized with Thelma Lou's manure, they are looking pretty good and starting to bloom. The nice rain we have had has helped, too. I have a crepe myrtle that doesn't have one, single bloom on it..no idea why.
Prayers for the new job, SMH. Hope its a good fit.

Good afternoon, porch. I'm sitting here looking at a piece of rather stiff paper, about 7 1/4" long and 3 1/4" wide, kinda greeny-color on one end, shading into gold. There's a picture of Lady Liberty on the green end, and across the top it says "United States Treasury"! Yep, it's my tax refund check! It really came, and it even included interest. I wrote Sen. Cornyn a nice letter, thanking him for all he did. Now I can file my 2012 return, and get that refund as well. It will be smaller than this one, but still a refund. Thank the good Lord!
About those veggie gardens - that just sounds so wonderful. If I tried it around here though, all I would have is fat squirrels and no veggies for me. The little dears.
Boo, if you're talking about having no blooms on your crape myrtle this year - it's too early. They usually don't bloom until late June or early July. However, if the thing has never bloomed at all, I think I'd dig it up, and buy another one in the early fall, when it's still bearing the summer's blooms. That way you'd be sure you're getting a bloomer. I honestly don't know if crape myrtles bloom regardless of gender, or if only the females bloom. I do know that male cottonwoods don't make cotton, it's the females that make such a mess.
Hahaha! Did I tell you that I got a great ringtone for my phone? It's the TAGS theme - whistled, yet. Sounds just like the show is coming on. When my phone rings in a crowd, everyone knows whose it is, for sure. I wish I could get one for text notification, with Gomer saying "Surprise, surprise, surprise!" Wouldn't that be fun???
I think the funniest ringtone I've heard was one on a young friend's phone. It just says "Ring. Ring ring. Ring ring ring!" The words, not a ringing sound. It's just a funny-sounding man's voice, saying the words, and each time he sounds a little more annoyed. It's hilarious!
Boo, it sounds like you're doing just great. I'm so glad. God is good. About that garden - you might want to talk to somebody who would know, about planting any gourd-type things in the same area. Zucchini and cucumbers, for example. Cantaloupes, watermelons, pumpkins, yellow squash, whatever. They can cross-pollinate and produce a disaster. We planted zucchini and watermelons in the same area once in Springfield, and got squashmelons. They were inedible. I really know very little about it, but I'll bet you can find some experienced veggie gardener in the area who can advise you.
SMH, your flower garden sounds beautiful. Never, ever compare your space with someone else's, especially when you haven't even really seen the other garden. Everyone makes their own peaceful, pretty place and it's always wonderful. I've seen some gardens and yards that, if I compared, would make me want to come home and pave mine over. So I don't do that. I come home and sit out back and admire what's here, and thank God for it, because it's mine, and it's the result of my work and God's blessing. Even if one's garden is a couple of pot plants on an apartment balcony, if it's your restful place, it's wonderful.
Well, blessings to you, friends. See you later. --Romeena

Thank you all for your prayers! It truly means a lot to me. Yes, there's a lot going on, but as has been mentioned, I have The Lord with me each second! Asa, no, it wasn't expected for me to not have feeling and weakness in my legs. The doctor thinks my feeling will comeback. I'm basically paralyzed for all practical matters right now. However, I have felt some tingling on the top of my feet, kind of like when one has frostbite. I'm hoping that works it's way around my whole leg! Tomorrow morning shall be interesting as everyone will be gone until the PT comes at noon! I have a bedside commode and I told Bryan to bring me a canned soda and crackers before he leaves in the morning. I didn't realize this until 9pm! Oh well, I'm barely eating so it should be alright.
Boo, I'm glad you're doing well!
Romeena, Bryan got me a bird feeder for my balcony. Do you know how to get the birds to go to the feeder?
I'm sorry to make this short. Just wanted to update y'all and thank you for the prayers. :)

May 14, 2013 - Msg 93494:
Good evening, porch. Lucy, honey, I wish you were in driving distance, I'd come look after you. I don't like you being alone there. Are there neighbors you could call if you needed help?
About the bird feeder - it depends on what kind of birds you have around, and/or what you want to attract. For example, cardinals love sunflower seed, but if you don't have cardinals in your area, there's no point in putting out sunflower seeds to attract them. My best advice would be a good general backyard bird mix. It will have millet, probably some cracked corn, some sunflower seeds and grass seeds, just a general mix that most birds will like and would find if they were having to just scavenge. Hang the feeder where they will feel safe from ambush by a cat, and where it's visible to the birds as they fly past it. It may take a few days for them to find it, but once they do, they'll become frequent visitors. If you have hummingbirds in your area, a sugar water feeder will draw them, and they're fascinating to watch. Just get a simple feeder, the elaborate ones don't do any better at attracting the hummers, and sometimes don't do as well as the little cheap ones. Look for ease in cleaning and filling. Mix one part sugar to four parts water (mix until all sugar is completely dissolved and the water looks crystal clear), add NO honey or color, and hang it where the hummers have room to zoom around it. Don't let the seeds or hummer water get stale. If not consumed, change the seeds and the sugar water about every third or fourth day. Good luck!
G-F, where did you get your Ernest T. ringtone? That would be really fun to have, because it would really annoy my friends. (Not really, but they'd act like it did.) I got my TAGS theme from Zedge. Zedge works on an android, but I don't think it will work on an iphone.
Well, it's late. Guess I'll head for bed. Toye Starr is heaving big sighs and looking hopefully toward the bedroom. Lazy little thing. --Romeena

Good morning, porch! Wow, is it ever beautiful here today. It's 68° and rising, should hit around 80°. Light breeze, high thin clouds, birds everywhere, squirrels being squirrely, beautiful flowers, and what isn't blooming is green. I never saw so many shades of green!
REV, are you out there? Busy, I'm sure, but would love to hear some details of the wedding.
I just spoke with my mother-in-law. I tried to call her Sunday, but couldn't get through! That used to happen when we all used land lines, but I didn't expect it in these days. Still, I guess the signal towers can get overwhelmed as well.
She's 95, bless her little heart, and still going semi-strong. She lives with her daughter in Pennsylvania. She's actually Dale's stepmom, as his mother passed when he was fourteen, but she's the only mother-in-law I ever knew, and she was always good to me. Her health is failing badly now, and I wish I could see her again, but I don't think there's a trip to Pennsylvania in my near future. Still, I can call her and visit.
Well, guess I'd better run. I'm going to pick up Eloise, we both have errands to run and will combine them, then find some lunch somewhere. I have a gift card that a friend gave me a while back, good for $25 at my choice of five different nice restaurants. I think we'll use that.
Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Good Morning Porch Family...busy day here at this end of the porch today and my youngest son's baseball team is going to a College Game tonight between the University of Vanderbilt and Belmont University in Nashville.
Lucy I echo BOO and RO sentiments and sincerely pray for each day to get better for you and I pray that God will send someone your way to be with you when your family is not able to.
Thanks GF for the heads up on the ringtones; I would love to add some TAGS tones to my phone...I would probably just listen to them whereever I was at when I needed a smile.
BOO keep taking it easy and allow yourself to keep feeling better.
Hey SPOT and everyone let's meet at Shoney's for the buffet today...
Thanks for the advice on the yard/garden RO and you are right as long as my family and I enjoy it that is all that matters because it is God's Blessings to us through His creation.
OK...gotta run...ya'll act like somebody today!

Thanks Frankie. :) I sure hope your husband continues to do well. Recovery from knee replacement can be a real booger. Prayers that all goes well for him.
Been taking it easy, SMH. It is 5:30 and I finally felt like getting a shower. I have been moving slow and feeling sort of achey today but a bad day is expected now and then. I am taking much less pain medicine, which might account for some of that.
Bruce had to take Erin back to the therapist today because her vertigo is back again. Please pray that it goes away for good. The therapist says Erin is the youngest pt he has ever had to treat and it keeps recurring.
Hi TOM! Thanks for the prayers.

Good to hear from you, REV. Have a wonderful concert tomorrow. ONE Of these days I am going to have myself some Babe's chicken, and I'm gonna have it with Romeena!
Feeling better this evening and sat out on the front porch on the swing for awhile. Had a nice visit from one of my sweet neices who could empathize after having had 3 c-sections herself. :) The weather here has been outstanding for this time of year. The humidity has been lower than usual and a gentle southeast breeze just carresses you this time of day. The sunset out here is always lovely...a nice pink and purple cast to the sky. My roses are blooming and I am so blessed to have such a lovely place to recover. My dear husband has worked so hard to be sure his bride has a place to enjoy and he has been working hard on the garden, too. I am very excited about having fresh veggies soon. God really blessed me with a good man who loves his family. I am very thankful.
Prayers continue for Lucy. May she heal quickly and completely and my the Lord provide work for her husband. I pray they feel the love and peace of God surrounding them at this time. God is always good.

Busier than a cows tail in fly season here but thought I better pop in and say hey. We have been a good 20 degrees above normal here the last few days so I've been scrambling to get my a/c units up and going. Boy, folks sure get onery when they get a bit warm. Spoiled rotten is what they are. Next week when it drops to the 60's again they will be bellyaching cause they are cold. I bet GF feels my pain.
Good to hear from you Rev. Hope all is well.
Glad you are recovering Boo, and taking her easy. And glad you got a good man to pamper you a bit.
Ro, sure glad you got your tax stuff resolved. I'm sure you are also.
I join Boo and others in her prayers for Lucy and her family. They are going through some tough times for sure. Glad they know the Lord and know they can lean on Him.
Prayers for all who need em. Gotta get to it.

May 15, 2013 - Msg 93509:
Good morning, porch! Asa, I understand what you're facing, trying to keep a bunch of people happy, temperature-wise. That's a tall order, especially if the majority of them are women. I remember a little situation my dad handled many, many years ago. He and my mother managed a sales organization at that time, and they had weekly sales meetings at their office. There was a large assembly room in the back, and the meetings were usually attended by at least a hundred people, almost all women, average age between 30 and 60. No matter how my dad set the thermostat, which was not visible or accessible to the room, you can bet that 50% of those women weren't happy with it. They were constantly interrupting the meeting to complain that they were too hot or too cold. "Jimmy, we're freezing!" or "Jimmy, we're melting!" Daddy got tired of it after a while, so he installed a thermostat on the wall at the back of the room, in plain sight and easily accessible. One problem - it wasn't attached to anything except the wall. No wires. The next meeting, when someone complained, he said "I've put a thermostat on the wall at the back of the room. Feel free to adjust it any way you wish." True statement - it was a real thermostat, just not hooked up. Well, you know what happened. Every few minutes during a meeting, some woman would stand up, tiptoe back there and twirl that thermostat and sit back down. That thing got adjusted at least a dozen times in a 90-minute meeting, and no one complained anymore. Daddy never told them the truth, and my mother and I were the only ones who actually knew. The power of suggestion, I guess, but it worked.
Well, I'll change my greeting to "Good afternoon, porch." I got distracted, left the keyboard without posting, and just got back to the computer and found this here. So, since the timing doesn't matter anyway, here it is. Now I have to run - things to do. --Romeena

Funny story Romeena about the t-stat a lot of truth to that haha! Yes he DID put it on the wall. Nobody asked him if it was connected to anything so he did not have to lie.
Hey Asa did ya ever have to explain to a customer who only had numbers on their stat what the actual temp of the room was? We have some, try to explain to a "Senior" resident when they get a new stat that has digital temp settings and all they know is I want my room set to #4 and not 72 degrees! Good luck with that one! They would not buy that #4 is now 72...A lot of folks must have come from Missouri is what I'm thinkin'.

My abdomen is much less distended now that the gigantic cyst is out of there. Its kind of like being un-pregnant. I can actually see the tops of my thighs from a sitting position...hasn't happened in awhile. ;) No menopausal side effects..feeling great.

Evening Porch,
How's everyone feeling today? I have some tingling in my calf, top of my feet and a few toes! Still little feeling at the bottom and lots of weakness, but it's a start! Thank you again for all your prayers! Oh, and Romeena, I've found I am needing people more than my usual surgeries. Nick actually changed his work schedule to be with me and make me an egg.
New Neighbor, your trip sounds fabulous! I love hearing of those that go to other countries that spread the word of Jesus!
Boo, I'm so glad your surgery has gone well. I hope little Erin's ear feels better. What ever happened with Sean's GF?
Rev, I hope you're having a great trip. At least your ride is better than Bobby Fleet's band with a beat. :)
MDC, I'm glad you had a nice time with your family.
Maude, I'm sorry about your friend, will say a prayer now so I don't forget.
Asa, remember to take care of yourself while your so busy.
Possum, how is Miss Laci?
Homemaker, I'm sorry to hear Casey is still having issues.
Tom and GF, I saw its warming up in you're neck of the woods. My SIL has been complaining about the cold, but texted me about tomorrow being 70s.
SMH, love your mayberry quotes! I'm in Atlanta and love Nashville.
Frankie, prayers for your husband.
Y'all take care of yourselves!

Good evening, porch. Just passin' by on my way to the ironing board. Robbi has finished the contract work she was doing up here, and will be heading home to Fredericksburg tomorrow. I'm going to miss her! However, I think Richard's "missing her" trumps mine, so I'll send her off with my blessings. Toye Starr is going to be devastated. She loves Robbi, likes to tease her into playing with her.
Boo, I never thought of myself as having "spunk", but my mother always said I'd fight the devil with a flyswatter if it came to it. Both of my parents always taught me to be sure I was right, then stand my ground, and I often saw them do exactly that. Neither of them went to college, but both had thorough "life educations" and had plenty of smart. My mom went from being a housewife, to holding an executive position with a sales organization. My dad was a bus driver, then a shipping clerk, then a salesman, and finally a self-educated home builder whose homes are still advertised today by realtors as "a Jim Rogers home." Their strongest asset was their Christian faith, and it never failed them. I was blessed to be born to them.
Prayers for all needing them tonight - Lucy, especially for you. With all your current troubles, you still so faithfully list the needs of everyone else. Bless you, love. --Romeena

So glad you are feeling something, Lucy! Lets keep praying you continue to and it spreads. :) Let's see..to answer your questions, Erin's ear is still causing her to have vertigo, but luckily it is only when she lies down. The poor child has been sleeping in the recliner for days. She has another appointment with the therapist tomorrow. Sean and his girlfriend made a friendly split weeks ago and it has worked out very well for Sean. The girls was very controlling and who needs that? She made some kind of fuss about him not helping her with something because he had to take me to the doctor and that didn't go over well with Sean. That ended it. The girl apologized, but that is her pattern...treat Sean badly, throw a terrible tantrum when she can't get her way, then apologize and never change. He finally had enough of it. They are on friendly terms, though, and hopefully both realize it was for the best. How is your husband doing, as far as finding employement?
We are struggling a little, but are thankful Bruce still has his job. The freeze our president put on federal employee's wages is taking a toll, though. We are out of over 8,000 dollars anually, that we should have been getting my now (increases Bruce expected over the past few years). No overtime, either. We are going to have to be on a pretty tight budget and thankfully, we have the garden. That should help when it starts to produce. I hope my car holds out, it has almost 200,000 miles on it now. We had plans to make extra payments on the house and have it paid for by the time Bruce retired, but can't do that now. At least we have the land we live on as a resource and can grow our own food and even meat, if we need to. I am looking into getting my nurses license current and working part-time at some point. I will have to go through a 4 month long refresher course to do it, though, and would have to travel to San Antonio or Houston for the clinical part of the course. 80 hrs of clinical work has to be done and I would have to stay away from home for weeks, possibly. I hate that we don't have those resources in my area, but we don't. The nursing school at the college here even had to close due to lacking instructors to teach the students. It stinks.
Yes you have spunk, Romeena...the good kind. :)

Good Morning Porch!
Sunny and warm here today but tonight and tomorrow we could get some of what RO and the good folks out west have been getting.
I don't see where RO has visited the porch this morning I hope all is well in her corner of the World.
BOO so glad to hear that your recovery is going well; poor little Erin it really tears at you when as parent your little one is hurting and there is nothing you can do to take it immediately away; prayers that the therapist has good news tomorrow and Erin finds relief soon. You must be very proud of Sean it sounds like you have a great young man there that has his priorities right. I understand the loss of income and the affect on your budget that you are feeling with Bruce's job as we going to experince about the same amount of income change when I start my new job on Monday but you know that God has been showing us in past few days, through certain events, that He is in control and He Himself, God, provides for my family not me or my job. God may use those things to give us His provision but we are dependent on Him for our needs not a job, not another person or any adminastration.
LUCY so happy to hear about your improved feeling in your legs and trusting God in prayer for a full recovery for you. I am glad you enjoy the Mayberry quotes...the quotes put a little of the Mayberry way of life into my day and a smile on my face.
Prayers for MAUDEs friend; Hello to MR. TOM and hope you are well; Hey to SPOT what about lunch at Sonic today...would love a Sonic Number One with Chili Cheese Tots and a Route 44 Coke with cherry and vanilla flavoring.
Hello GF and MDC I too am a Bluegrass and Rhonda Vincent Fan; she has many great works and I love her rendition of the Martha White theme song in carrying on the tradition of Flatt and Scruggs.
That reminds me of another great TV Show...how many of you on the Porch enjoyed the Beverly Hillbillies with Jed, Granny, Jethro, Ellie Mae and of course Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale and Ms. Jane?
Here is a little extra quote for today from the Beverly Hillbillies:
JETHRO BODINE: [Jed and Jehtro are discussing a "fast" girl back in the hills] Uncle Jed, she handed me a big old sugar cookie, looked at me and said, "Jehtro, if you had a choice between that cookie and me, which one would you take". Uncle Jed, that's when I found out just how fast she was! [Jed leans in close to hear the rest of the story] I had to run nearly a mile to get away from her with that cookie!
JED CLAMPETT:[Disgusted] Jethro, some day me and you got to have a long talk.
Well I better get off here...I have my exit interview this afternoon and then they escort me from the building...then I will be unempoloyed until Monday...Thank you for your prayers!
Have a great day and a even better evening...Laughter, Prayer and Blessings for everyone!
SMH
BARNEY:[to a group of boys] Boys, when that steel door slams shut, that's the end of the happy days. No more fishin', no more ball playin', no more peanut butter sandwiches. [Door slams shut behind Barney]
ANDY:[little boy holds out sandwich to Barney] No, No Leon; Barney can't have that.
BARNEY: You're real funny, you know that. We ought to book you on one of those excursion lines.
