April 28, 2013 - Msg 93303: Good morning, porch! It's cool and cloudy here, looks like it's about to rain on our heads. Of course it looked like that yesterday, and nothing happened, but it really looks like it today. Not a leaf is stirring, and the air is very heavy. I've seen only one bird, and no squirrels. That usually means they sense a storm coming, and have holed up somewhere for protection. No sign of the little parakeet, I haven't seen him since yesterday morning. I sure hope our resident hawk didn't get him, but that's quite likely. He's not a very good flier, and the hawk will spot him easily. Poor little guy.

Well, got to find my dangly earrings and get ready to go to preachin'. Pastor has started a new series, and it will be good. He's really a good preacher, doesn't back away from any issues. We need more like that.

Blessings, friends! See you later this afternoon. Maybe we could have a band concert, if it doesn't rain. --Romeena

April 28, 2013 - Msg 93310: Howdy, porch. Was watching TV, got so sleepy I knew I'd better get up and do something. Otherwise, I'd fall asleep and then have a hard time sleeping tonight. So here I am.

G-F, almost any flower is interesting to a hummingbird or a butterfly, but one thing they seem to love around here is lantana. It comes in many colors, likes a lot of sun, and can be beautiful. It can also be rowdy, spreading out and taking over. It's not invasive, as it maintains just one root source, but that plant will send out branches and twigs and just fill up an area. In an area with hard winters, it should be considered an annual. It usually comes back here in north Texas, but not always. Another favorite is penta, which is a lovely bedding plant, comes in many colors, stays small and compact - also is an annual, even here. A few may return in the spring, but most freeze out. Honeysuckle vine will attract large numbers of hummers and butterflies, and will be very pretty on a fence or trellis. Trumpet vine is pretty, and is very well loved by the fliers, but it is really invasive. Be sure it's planted in an area where you can control its spread. Buddleia (butterfly bush) is attractive to the little fliers, but it tends to get long and leggy, and in my opinion, isn't a particularly pretty plant. I have one, but I have to prune it back so much and so often that it rarely gets a chance to bloom. If you have a large empty fence corner, or a big open space, it could be a good choice. With room to spread and plenty of sun, it will bloom nicely. I would suggest checking with a garden center in your area, and see what they recommend. What works here might not work for you.

Well, I think I'm awake. Maybe I can go back to the TV. I was watching "Property Brothers." I like that show. The brothers are nice, and Johnathan does such a remarkable job on the renovations. Good show.

Blessings, all! --Romeena

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93325: Morning Porch
Hope the new day finds you all fine and dandy.

Triple digit already MDC? Goodness buddy, that;s not fun. Yesterday was just about perfect here. Upper 40's for the low, low 70's for the high. I love those days when you do not have to turn on heat or a/c. Seems we only get a couple of them a year though. lol

Boo, how's things going? You doing ok?

Ro, did you get chinese last night? Egg Foo Yung? I even like saying it. Egg-foo-yung. :)

Better get going. Them triple digits will be here soon.

Prayers for all.

Asa

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93326: MDC, its been rainy here and 80 degrees. Actually had thunderstorms two nights in a row.

I love those kind of days you are talking about, ASA, and we don't get them often enough, either. We probably run the A/C 85% of the time, and I turned the heat on one time this winter (if you can call it that). This insulation we have in the house holds the warmth of the day in and it really never gets cold enough to need the heater.

I am doing ok, Asa, thanks for asking. Things are pretty hectic this week trying to get ready for the surgery next Tuesday. I have three different appointments in town this week. One for Sean, then I see the cardiologist, then the pre-op workup at my dr's office. Hopefully I won't have to do another stress test and delay the surgery. I really want to get this done and overwith! I did several loads of laundry yesterday, did my grocery shopping and got what I needed for supper this week, and did some cleaning...put the kids to work, too. I have not felt very nervous or anything, even though this is kind of a new experience for me. I have been very fortunate and have never had surgery before (except for a tonsillectomy at age 7). There must be a little anxiety, though, because I had a crazy dream about it last night. I dreamt I was in this little, po-dunk hospital and in a surgical room with a doctor who was ready to cut me open by himself, with no surgical team, no anesthesiologist, no sterile insturments or drapes and he was going to administer the anesthesia himself. I got off that table and out of there in a hurry!... ;)
Hope your back is mending. How are you feeling?

I'm going to take my time this morning, sip my coffee and then start a few light chores. Sean has his appointment with his doc this afternoon.

Be back to chat later. :)

"HEY" to John Masters. Good to see you on the porch.

Boo

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93327: Good morning, porch. Almost good afternoon! I've been at this desk all morning, (some of you will get emails - open if you wish) and have spent a lot of time just gazing out the window. Lots of bird traffic out there, and several squirrels. One of the little darlings hopped into a hollowed-out-rock planter, and proceeded to dig up one of the sweet potato vines I had planted there, right before my very eyes. He dug it up, kicked it out of the planter and buried a pecan in its place. The poor little plant is lying on the stump, all limp and looking pitiful. Rest assured, I will soon evict the pecan and replant the vine. Stinkin' little squirrel. They're very lucky they're so cute.

Boo, it's no wonder you're nervous, if this is the first time you've had surgery. I've had so many, that it's just no big deal to me. You're going to be just fine. Just relax, and leave it up to your surgeon and the Lord. You'll be home and feeling fit as a fiddle in no time.

I think the sparrows have finished raising their early brood, and the babies have flown. This morning I spotted two little groups of three babies, that all stay together, and don't try to fly very far. Their little tails are still a bit stubby, and they have the remnants of yellow at the corners of their beaks. The adults are nearby and still feed them a bit now and then. They need two or three more days to be fully independent. It's amazing how quickly they grow up. There are also two little squirrels that I think must have been this year's babies. They're quite small, and they hang out together. They didn't grow up in any of my nest boxes, but there's a big old trashy nest in a tree next door - has to be a squirrel. No self-respecting bird would build a nest like that. Too big and too loose.

REV, how are your nerves holding out?

Well, I need to go to the grocery store. Don't need much, just a few "filler" items. Yes, Asa, we had Chinese last night. There's a little restaurant not far from here, not impressive-looking, but they deliver and their food is good. They make great hot and sour soup, which is my big favorite. We also had shredded pork with garlic sauce, and it was quite good. Needed a little salt, but that's an easy fix. I like to order from them because their delivery guy is so nice. He's a little short guy, with a face as round as the moon, eyes are just very narrow slits, and he has a smile that goes from ear to ear! He's so pleasant, but makes sure he checks his money, as he should. I always try to tip well, not extravagantly, but a bit over the expected amount, and when he sees his tip, his smile widens even more, and he starts this little bobbing bow routine, bows about ten times. It's just so cute! He's such a nice and happy guy. He doesn't have much English, but with that smile, he doesn't need it.

OK, I'm off to see the wizard. See you folks later. Blessings! --Romeena

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93328: Thanks for the encouragment, Ro! I am feeling pretty good about things. :)

For the first time I saw a squirrel trying to eat from the bird feeder yesterday! He is so cute but he scares off the birds. For now, he is not hanging around much and I suspect once the dogs give him a good scare he won't come back often. We'll see. I have seen so many birds...all shapes sizes and colors. I can't begin to know what they are. I had one the other day with a blue head, green wings, and orange chest! He looked like a little rainbow.

Boo

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93329: Hello gang...quick trouble check...back at work..hey Boo,asa,Rev,possum and all back in a bit...SPOT

April 30, 2013 - Msg 93330: Wow! Boo, the bird you saw was undoubtedly a painted bunting. Check this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtl4YHP95Z0. I have watched and waited for years for one to grace my yard and have never seen one. My friend Joe sees them all the time at his place, but he lives in the country. I think they don't care much for city iiving, but I still keep hoping to see one. It's a wondrous little creature. Lucky you!

As for the bird/squirrel problem, try putting a large flagstone (or several) on the ground beneath your feeder. The squirrel will certainly knock seed out of the feeder, and if there's a solid surface below to collect it, the birds will move down there and be grateful for the easy bounty. It happens here all the time. At this moment, there's a squirrel on my feeder, seed falling in little showers, and about a dozen birds on the ground, practically catching the seeds in the air! Symbiosis at its best.

Well, Robbi will be home soon, guess I'd better go clean up my little mess in the kitchen. She likes to cook for us when she gets home, but she does like a clean kitchen! Blessings, all! --Romeena

I can only imagine what a beehive of activity REV's house must be. Just think - not only is their daughter getting married, but REV is singing and officiating both! Good thing he has the composure of a seasoned performer. Anybody else would be a basket case by now. That's going to be a beautiful wedding - it just can't be anything else.

May 01, 2013 - Msg 93338: Saw the cardiologist and they want me to do a stress test tomorrow before they will clear me, so I'll do that tomorrow afternoon. No big deal, I've had two already but I had to reschedule my pre-op work up until monday. Doc said I would get the results of stress test on Friday so that's good. Feeling pretty good...things are coming together with fairly minimal stress. Erin is stressing me but that is not uncommon. :) Bruce took the day off to go with me to my appointment (he wanted me to let him be a part of things). I am letting him take care of things around here this afternoon while I take a nap. How's that? The best way to help me is to let me take a siesta!

May 01, 2013 - Msg 93339: Wow. I just got the weather forecast for this area for the next two days. It's 83° right now, will be dropping during the night and continue dropping during the day tomorrow. Will get down into the 50x tomorrow afternoon, continue dropping, to as low as the mid-30s on Friday morning. Seriously? In Texas, in May? Then next week it will be back into the 80s. Weird, weird weather.

David moved my plumerias out of the garage last Saturday, and they're not going to appreciate those cold temperatures. They prefer not to go below 40, but they're too big to move back in. One of them is about four feet tall and could be moved, I guess, but the other one is over eight feet high, weighs (pot and all) over a hundred pounds, and spreads like reindeer antlers all over the place. It's just going to have to shiver, I guess, because it's not going to be moved back in.

Well, Robbi should be home soon. Guess I'll go start dinner prep. She does most of the cooking because she's on a somewhat limited diet, so I'm the sous chef. Suits me! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

May 02, 2013 - Msg 93345: Good morning, porch. It's chilly and blustery here today, going to get colder. It's 50° right now, and falling. Some sources say low 30s tonight, some say upper 30s, and one source says just 40°. Not sure who's right. I talked to John at the garden center, and he says I should throw a sheet over the plumerias, because they most definitely do not like it below 40. So, guess when Robbi gets home, we'll try to do that. Should be interesting, standing out there in the middle of the iris bed, trying not to step on anybody, and at the same time maneuver a sheet over an 8-ft tall, 6-ft wide branching, leafless plant, in the wind. Yep, that should be a whole lot of fun.

As for right now, the wind is really whipping around back there, and there are several tall irises that won't survive it, so I'm going to go cut them and bring them in. Might as well have them in here where I can enjoy their beauty and their fragrance. Otherwise, they'll be flat and wilted tomorrow.

Hey, REV, time is growing short. How is everyone holding up? I'm sure your beautiful daughter is radiant and joyful, but how about you and Mrs. Rev? Hang in there! All will go well, the song will be beautiful and your daughter will be so pleased. There will be tears, but that's as it should be. What's a wedding without an openly tearful mother, a sober-faced dad trying not to cry, a scared-looking groom and a bride with a Texas-sized smile? As for dad, don't fight it, just let 'em flow! It will make a sweet memory for your daughter.

Well, I'm off to cut irises, and maybe some roses. They're getting beat up, too! Darn wind! Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

May 02, 2013 - Msg 93348: Thank you, Asa (and everyone else who have kept me in your prayers). The nuclear stress today was completed and I passed with flying colors, so the surgery is on for Tuesday. :) I have had two other stress tests and this one was tougher than the other two...I guess because I am older now. That stuff they shoot into your vein makes you feel pretty weird..and that's putting it nicely. It is four minutes of very weird...not pleasant but short. The tough part was they wanted me to lie on my stomach on a hard table to get some of the pictures of the back of the heart. Now, it ain't easy doing that when you have a big guy and a soccer ball in your stomach...just sayin'. teehee

Yep, I guess things are hectic around Rev's place. Hope the wedding is beautiful...I know it will be. REV if you are reading this, please be sure and post some wedding pictures on facebook. Prayers that the day is extra special!

Ro, its cool and windy here this evening, too. The dogs are already curling up on their blankets in the garage. Those dogs are like kids. They play themselves into a frenzy out here on the place and by 7 or 8 they are ready for bed.

Folks, I feel about knee-high to a grasshopper tonight. Erin was getting on my nerves and I exploded. I am not the kind of person to rage, but tonight I did and I repented and asked Erin to forgive me, too, but it just kills me that I lost my temper that way. I know how damaging that kind of thing can be. I am hoping that years of love and good parenting will make up for a slip-up like that. Man, I hate it. I guess the stress of the week is getting to me. Lord make me sweet and kind even when I want to go into orbit!

Boo--Don't knock yourself out about the deal with Erin. We've all done something like that. (some of us more than others; let's just say I've lost track! ha). But you did good, you realized your mistake, you repented, and you asked Erin for forgiveness, you confessed
that you hate the sin, and you resolved (as humanly as possible) to not do it again.
The Lord will indeed help you.
I think of the woman who was caught "in the very act" of adultery that the Pharisees dragged to Jesus. That means they busted open a door to get her,
left the man there(who was just as guilty) and then just like their stupid selves, they asked Jesus what he thought about the whole "affair." What did Jesus do?
He wrote in the sand. Scripture doesnt say what Jesus wrote, but I bet he wrote down all of their sins!
Because, only then did he say that well-known line...

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93352: Good evening, porch! Boo, I'm glad the nuclear stress test went well. You're right, it does make you feel very weird - panicky, almost. I've had one, a few months ago, and would just as soon not do it again. I would, if necessary, but I'd rather not.

As for blowing up at Erin, I don't know how "bad" it was, but I don't imagine she's going to be marked for life! If my kids were to count off the times I blew up in their faces, they'd be here all night. It's normal, it's natural, and it reassures them that when they lose their own temper at times, it's not the end of the world. Besides, sometimes all the controlled, sweet talk in the world doesn't do as good a job of defining behavioral boundaries as a parental tirade does. I could coo like a dove to my kids, saying "I'd really rather you didn't do that, sweetie," and it would happen again. Let me blow their hair back with "You do that again and I'll wear your tailfeathers out," and it usually didn't happen again. As my dad used to say, "Children are a sorry lot." So, don't go beatin' yourself up over a natural reaction to a kid who decided to push all your buttons. Now she knows that sooner or later, one of those buttons will produce an explosion. Lesson learned.

MDC, I agree. I've always thought that he probably wrote down a list of their sins. Whatever it was, it surely took the wind out of their self-righteous sails. And yes, apparently the man involved was allowed to go his way, with no responsibility for his involvement. Apparently things haven't changed much in that part of the world, as it always seems to be a woman who is being stoned or otherwise punished for a sin of "impurity" but the men seem to be above condemnation.

Toye Starr is feeling poorly again. Same song, second verse. I think we'll go see Dr. Mike in the morning, whether she's better or not. This is the third time in just about a month, and I'm getting concerned. She's so tiny, and has no resources, it wouldn't take much to just wipe her out. She hasn't eaten a bite all day, and you can hear her tummy growling from across the room. She's restless and fidgety, so I know she's not comfortable. Poor little baby.

Well, guess I'll head for bed, and get her cuddled up warm. Maybe it will help her to get to sleep. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Boo, glad your test went well and you passed ok, despite the soccer ball and "big guy". lol And as Ro and MDC said so well, don't go beating yourself up for snapping at Erin. You are under a lot of stress right now. Hang in there.

Ro, I'm sorry Toye Starr is ailing again. Hopefully your Vet can isolate and treat her correctly.

I have wondered if what the Savior wrote in the dirt wasn't a list of names whom had been involved with the woman, and if some, if not all of their names was on the list. But the point being none of us are without sin. (excuse me while I pluck this beam out of my eye) :)

Sure am enjoying watching these Matlocks I have on DVD. Especially the ones where Don Knotts is on. Some great one liners. Les Calhoun (Don Knotts) is proudly showing off his new tool box he bought to Ben (Andy Griffith)
Ben (picking up a tool and looking at it) "what's this tool for"?
Les: "It's a spark plug wrench for a Porche".
Ben: Neither one of us owns a Porche".
Les: "Yea, but it sets an example for the other tools".
Those two just clicked together I tell ya.

Prayers for all.

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93354: Boo, A nuclear stress test? Well that's the reason right there is why you "Blew Up" at Erin..I think Dr. Bruce Banner "The Hulk" had the same problem when he was subjected to radiation. Here's what ya do, just tell her you had a out- burst of "Hulktameneractism" ( It's a new strain of anger brought on by radiation). As Bruce Banner would say "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" also as Kermit the frog said: "It's not easy being GREEN!"...So don't beat yourself up about because Dr. G-F has diagnosis the problem and you're off the hook!! So you see,...It was a medical condition.. I'm just say'in....

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93355: Asa, Sort of the same kind of line in "The Straight Story", when Alvin went in to the hardware.."Alvin what's ya gonna do with that "Grabber"?...Alvin: "GRAB"....
(You got to watch that movie!) I think you can pull it up as the "The Straight Story Movie" and it's downloaded into 11 parts so you can watch it.
It will bless your heart, great writing, slow but powerful movie a lot of lessons in it. Dick Farnsworth did a GREAT job in it for an "Old Cowboy".

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93356: My, my...you guys are so sweet and encouraging (and funny). G-F, that quite possibly the reason for my "blow up"..radiation poisoning. They never told me about the potential side effect. teehee...funny.

I'm not beating myself up anymore. I know that does no good. Ro, you made me laugh with your comments and I'm sure you're right. I'm not one to sweettalk my kids and sometimes I nag, but I don't lose my head and explode like that...guess I have been under more stress than I realize. I am one of those "list makers" and a tad perfectionistic, so the thought of being in the hospital and not able to do the things I normally do around here is causing me stress. I need to learn to let go and realize every is not going to fall apart because I can't do it all. I will learn. :) Thank you for your prayers.

Well, I am concerned about poor little Toye Starr...wonder what has her tummy so upset this often. Please let us know how it goes with Dr. Mike. Praying for her.

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93359: Awwww, you all are so sweet to be concerned about my baby. She's fine this morning (as usual), but I took her to Dr. Mike anyway. He couldn't find anything, but did give me a liquid medicine to give her for a couple of days, to soothe her little tummy. She has not lost weight (4.6 lbs!) and she ate like a starved wolf when we got home this morning. Tom, as far as I know, she hasn't eaten anything unusual. I don't keep any houseplants that could be harmful. I do give her little tidbits of "people food" but nothing that would upset her. As for Robbi's diet, she just eats a lot of salad and lean meat, and has to avoid anything containing gluten, so there's no problem there. I can't help wondering if she might have some tiny gallstones (yes, dogs have a gallbladder) that migrate into the bile duct now and then and cause pain until they finally move through. If it happens again, I think I'll ask Dr. Mike about that.

Well, gotta run. I'm taking Eloise to the eye doctor because she can't drive after the exam, and I'll go to rehab at the same time. The locations are just about a half mile apart. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 03, 2013 - Msg 93360: I wonder if Toye has a sensitivity to something in dog food. I know you changed food to see if that would help, but maybe there is something in most dog food that doesn't suit her digestive system. You might email Mavis, she knows alot about that sort of thing. She only feeds her dogs a raw meat diet and swears by it. I can't quite go that far, though. Interesting thought about the gall stone...could be, I suppose.

Thank you, John Masters.

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93361: Good evening, porch. Just got home from bunco, had fun as usual. Crazy bunch of women, lots of laughter, stories shared, just caring and sharing, it's what we do.

Boo, I'm not quite ready to feed her raw meat, either. First of all, she isn't too crazy about it. I've offered her little tidbits when I'm cooking, and sometimes she'll eat them, sometimes not. Actually, I didn't fully change her diet, I just eliminated the flavor of Beneful that seemed to bother her last time, but am not sure that was necessary. She has eaten all the flavors for about three years now, with no troubles. All but the lamb, she won't eat it. Just doesn't seem to like it. I'm really pretty sure it isn't her food. I think she just gets a little upset tummy now and then, like anybody might. If it keeps happening, I'll have to look a little more deeply into the possibilities. Right now, she seems fit as a fiddle. As for the gallstone notion, that occurred to me because the way she was acting, she seemed to feel just about the way I was feeling when I'd have an attack. The third one, and I was done with it, didn't want to do that ANYmore. Called the doc, told him I had gallstones and I wanted the thing out! He asked if I minded if he confirmed my diagnosis first. (heehee) I told him to be my guest but warned him he would find a gallbladder full of tiny stones, like fine gravel. Sure enough, that's what the sonogram showed, and we both had a good laugh. He was a friend, I've known him and worked with him for years. So, out it came, I felt great from day one, can eat anything I want, and never looked back. Anyway, if that baby is feeling as miserable as I did during those three attacks, she's pretty darned miserable. The only difference is, her tummy was making a lot of racket, and mine didn't, so I'm probably wrong, but it's an idea anyway.

I'm tired, think I'll hit the hay. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93362: Well hopefully Toye Starr isn't suffering from "flop-bottom" or going "cracker dog" Romeena. :) I do pray it's nothing serious.

Nice morning here on my porch. Low 40's to start the day and highs in the low 70's this afternoon. Just about perfect.

Hope you all have a blessed and wonderful day today.

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93363: Your weather sounds just like our's here in south texas, Asa. How weird is that? It is usually hot and humid here in May.

Well, glad Toye is feeling better now. Hope it stays gone, whatever it was.

One of my hens was injured yesterday by Bernie and has a big wound on the back of her neck. I cleaned it well yesterday and she is seperated from the others. I hope she will heal and I won't have to put her out of her misery.

Have a memorial service for an old friend today. I am not looking forward to it but I need to go.

Better finish my coffee.

Prayers for REV.. Today is the day?...Hopefully Ernest T.Bass doesn't crash the wedding. Be sure to have your "Father of the Bride Kleenex's" handy Buddy!

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93367: Good morning, porch! Well, today seems to be the day for birds. First, I saw an American goldfinch, but I had seen him a couple of days ago already. Then Robbi asked me what "that beautiful orange bird" might be. Orange bird? I've never seen a truly orange bird around here, not the bright orange with black wings she was describing. I knew what it sounded like though, so we sat out on the patio and watched, and sure enough, he came back, and it was. It really was! A Baltimore oriole! My very first one. I'd only seen them in pictures, so I'm very excited about that. I've already got some grape jelly out in a little cup for him, and will get some oranges. I know they love both of those, and I'd like to keep him around. He's gorgeous!

Then, as if that weren't enough, guess who flew in and perched right above our heads in a crape myrtle tree. Yep, the little white parakeet. He's still around, though he looks a bit worn and beat up. He keeps trying to hang out with the other birds, and they're all in nesting mode, and don't want him around. They chase him off, and they're not very nice about it. There are two or three pairs of mockingbirds out there, and if he gets too close to one of their nests, they'll gang up and really give him trouble. I think I'm going to try to find a cage today, if they're not too expensive, and see if we can lure him in. He's just not in the right place to be on his own. One lone parakeet probably won't make it for long.

Mr. Tom, I do believe you're right. Didn't Emma describe them as "little blue pills?" Pay attention, G-F.!

Does anyone know what time the wedding was scheduled for today? I'd love to be a little mouse in the corner and watch as REV sings the song he wrote for his beautiful daughter. If he gets through it without breaking down in tears, it will be a miracle. I can't wait to get that CD and hear the song. What a lovely memory for Erica and Jon!

Well, better get off this keyboard. I've got errands to run, and time is flying. Blessings! --Romeena

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93369: OK, just call me Romeena Sucker. I can't stand thnking about that little parakeet out there, cold at night, chased by the other birds during the day. Petsmart had a nice little cage marked way down on a closeout, and I bought it. It came with seed cups, perches and a swing. I bought a mirror also to help attract him, and the little cage is now sitting on the table on the back patio, door propped open, and I'm hoping he'll come in this evening when he's ready to roost. It seems too bad to cage him when he's known freedom, but he won't survive out there. If the weather and the mockingbirds don't get him, the hawk will. So - wish me luck. Will have to keep an eye on the cage now.

Wonder how the wedding went? I guess it's over - does anyone know for sure if it was in the daytime or at night? If I've heard, I've forgotten.

Well, guess I'll go check on the birdcage. I sure do hope we can rescue the little viajero. If we get him, maybe that's what we'll name him - Traveler. --Romeena

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93371: The last Baltimore Oriole I saw was Cal Ripken Jr. I met him at a minor league game in my neck of the woods, he's part owner of a minor league team from outside of Baltimore, and by Golleey he was wearing ORANGE!...I guess I WAS paying attention while I was paying for my Hot Dog, so It pays to pay attention sometimes or I would have missed him. I'm thinkin because they showed the games in COLOR.

Wonder what color a Blue Jay is???? ;-o

ps Boo, maybe that Hen was two-timing Bernie?

May 04, 2013 - Msg 93372: No, G-f, my little hen is too little to be two-timing. Poor little thing was just beginning to get adjusted to being in the flock. I sure hope that once she is well, the same thing won't happen again. Sometimes nature seems cruel but there is a reason for everything.

Sure hope you can catch little Viajero, Ro. You are no sucker..just a first class sweetheart. :)

Boo

May 05, 2013 - Msg 93373: Awww, thanks, Boo, but I didn't do anything you wouldn't have done. The poor little thing is so small, and the world is so big. Robbi will take him and give him a great home if we can catch him. If we can't, well, I guess I have a birdcage! Good thing it was cheap. She had a parakeet when she was a teenager, and what a spoiled, cute little bird he was! She had long, thick hair, as she does now, and she would let Chubbers out of his cage and he'd get into her hair and just disappear. He'd ride around in her hair for the whole evening. Every now and then, this little head would pop up out of her hair, he'd give a big chirp and dive back in again. It was just hilarious. Sure gave visitors a start at times. He talked, had a vocabulary of about fifteen or twenty words, and was very friendly. Oh yes, she would give our little wanderer a good home.

Well, guess I'll hit the hay. Preachin' in the morning. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 05, 2013 - Msg 93374: Good Sabbath all. I pray it will be a good one for you all.

Well Romeena, did you make the capture? I visulized the bird in your Robbies hair. Gave me quite the chuckle. At least it wasn't a bat in there laying eggs and making her go crazy.

Well Rev gained a son in law yesterday. Hope the big event went well.

Guess I'll go rustle up something for breakfast.

Prayers for all.

Asa

May 05, 2013 - Msg 93375: Good morning, porch! What a perfectly gorgeous day. Yard report - no, we haven't caught the parakeet, the goldfinch is ignoring the nyjer thistle seed feeder, and I haven't seen the oriole again, perhaps because a squirrel ate the grape jelly I put out to attract him. My jelly jar is almost empty, guess I'd better get some more. Will get some oranges too, because I think orioles like them even better than grape jelly. I hope squirrels don't like them, or this could get expensive!

Well, better get ready for preachin'. I'm all showered and shampooed, now I just have to figure out what to wear. One thing for sure, I'll wear some dangly earrings. Our pastor doesn't think they're sinful, he likes 'em! Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 05, 2013 - Msg 93376: Romeena...You need to put up a big picture of Cal Riplen Jr. that will bring those Orioles in for sure! Just DON'T put up one of those pictures of George Steinbrenner you don't want those kind of Yankees showin up at your door...hehehe

Asa, Who ya gonna wrestle for breakfast?...Big Maude? Sorry that was rustle, not wrestle. Guess I wasn't paying attention again! It seems like that happened a lot this week blaw, blaw, blaw!

MR.TOM

May 05, 2013 - Msg 93379: Happy Birthday to you, Big Maude! Don't worry about that 54, datlin'. You're just a baby. The best is yet to come!

Robbi and I went out after church and got some good Mexican food, and now I'm full and lookin' for a place to fall down and take a nap! We stopped by John's Garden Center on the way home and I bought a really beautiful fuchsia in a hanging basket. I had just the place for it out front - chain already hanging from a limb, and a water line with a little soaker head on it ready to stick in the dirt to keep it watered. Fuchsias don't like to go dry. Now if I can just keep the squirrels from digging in it, the little dears.....

OK, that nap idea won, so off I go. Blessings, friends. --Romeena
