Oh, lord. Possum, that doesn't sound good. Folks, we need to ramp up the prayers for Spot and Miss Sherry. They are deep in the valley right now. I wish we could do more for them, but as someone said, when prayer is all you have, prayer is all you need.
Hi, SG. May I refer you to message 89633. I hate to tell you, but that's how you correct an error. Only Floyd has the ability to edit an existing post. Don't worry, it happens to all of us. Fingers fly, typos are made, or (in my case, at least) my fingers go faster than my brain and I end up thinking "Why did I say that?" Anyway, relax, girl. You're among friends. Don't let me mislead you. Typos happen around here ALL the time, and we just read through them and pay no attention to them. I'm about the only one who is neurotic enough to go back and correct them, as I did in 89633. I'm trying to break myself of the habit, but as a lifelong aspiring writer, I just can't. I don't even notice someone else's typos, but mine haunt me. I think that has something to do with why I haven't taken up texting. I just can't bring myself to use the shorthand that is so commonly used. Out of my four children, two are a lot like me (poor things), and two are a bit more relaxed about it.
Am I the only one who is just appalled at the trend in the schools today, to eliminate cursive writing? My grandson is a fifth-grader, and has not been taught cursive. They print everything, except their signature, which he learned to more or less "draw". I don't think he has any concept of the linking of letters. Is this just a Texas thing, or are the other states doing the same? I think it's terrible!
Well, guess I'd better get off this keyboard and put away a few more things. This house still looks like a rummage sale. Blessings! --Romeena

Going today and look at a couple homes on the market for my daughter. She and her future husband are thinking about maybe going ahead and purchase a home while the rates are so low and housing market is low. He can live there till they get married next May because he got a very good job in our area.....Praise the Lord! God truly opened the door to this new job. It's one of the best school districts in the state and a lot of people were gunning for the position. Can't believe my baby girl is shopping for a house....ya'll pray for dad...lol:)

Gosh, REV, it's hard to believe that beautiful girl is all grown up, about to get married, and actually shopping for a home of her own. They just grow up entirely too quickly. I do have one question. Where will little Jake live? I'm almost hoping the about-to-be SIL doesn't like dogs, but I know that's not the case. He wouldn't have gotten to first base with Erica if that were true. I guess as long as they're going to be nearby, and Erica can let you have him when you're home, it'll be okay. If you get a chance, email me a current picture of him. He's just the cutest little thing ever.
Toye Starr went with me to get my hair cut today. She's a favorite of the ladies in the shop, and gets her own little towel draped around her shoulders, then sits patiently and quietly on my lap while Cheryl cuts my hair. She gets a little nervous during the shampoo part, because that seems a little too close to a bath for her, but she doesn't show it except by big saucer-eyes, and the occasional tiny tremble. Once that's done, she enjoys the cutting part, probably because everyone in the shop comes by to pet her and talk silly baby talk to her. She just eats it up, the little prima donna.
Well, gotta run. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Well, now that I'm fifty, I ain't correcting anymore of my typos...unless I accidentally say a nasty word or insult someone, that is... AND I am using any kind of grammar I want! I ain't got no use to worry over bad grammar... hehe ;)
Well, obvisouly (not correcting) I got back safely from San Antonio, although I did get lost once. I was able to correct and get back on the right highway fairly easily. My friend Dianne and I traveled to San Antonio to check out something called "Grace House". It is a home that ministers to women coming out of rehab or prison who are serious about changing their lives. They go to college or are trained for jobs and are given the help and mentoring they need to make a new life. Their success rate is in the 90% range. Our church is involved in trying to open a Grace House here in Corpus Christi so we wanted to go and see the facilities and how they operated. They have a beautiful home that can accomodate 12 ladies. It cost 2 million dollars to build, which came from donations. Ro, its on a Baptist Children's home campus. You may be familiar with it...its on HW 90.
Very sorry to hear that Sherry is getting weaker. Bless her sweet heart. Lord be with Sherry and all of her loved ones.
I am very happy for you, REV. The Lord is blessing your daughter and her future husband. Just go with the flow...it will be ok, and when those grandkids come, you will be in 7th heaven, man. :)

And yes SIL loves Jake to death and like you said, he would have never had a chance with Erica if he didn't...lol Jake with stay with them but when I'm not on the road I'll be granpuppy sitting:) I'll try and get an updated pic to you soon. She used to be such a tomboy but now she is already wanting to shave her legs and she is getting some "girly" ways...not many, but things are changing. I don't think she will ever be a really girly-girl (her mom isn't) but that's fine. I remember Ro telling me years ago that this would happen, and it it. ;) Of course she has only worn a dress one time in the last year and that was only because it was father's day. She is a shorts/jeans/ t-shirts kind of kid.

Good morning, porch! REV, your story of praying for Erica's future husband all these years just warms my heart. There is no blessing like a praying parent, no greater gift you can give your child than your daily prayers. No wonder she turned out so well.
Boo, I'm betting that Erin will continue to venture into "girly-world", but she probably will always retain her preference for a simple wardrobe, not too many frills, and will enjoy outdoor activities all her life. That would be a description of me, and I've been happy. Oh, I taught myself to crochet and to sew, and to do ceramics, but they were reserved for late evenings, when darkness kept me inside.
Dale always said he loved my tomboy nature, and I think he really did. Our second real "date", after the blind date where we met, was a telling point. I had been out riding my horse, and lost track of time. When I got home, Dale was there waiting, visiting with my dad out in the yard. I rode in, Ace all in a lather, and I had been riding bareback. So, when I got off the horse, I had horsehair and sweat all over my legs and the back of my jean cut-offs. My dad turned away, obviously trying to hide a big grin, and Dale just blinked and looked at me. His comment? "I'll bet you'd like a shower. I'll wait!" I knew he was a keeper on that blind date, and that reaction just confirmed it. We spent 38 years, with him waiting while I washed off the dirt of whatever I had been engaged in that day. My sons both chose women who don't mind sweating and getting dirty, and they've had good and happy marriages. My daughters are much like me, Robbi being a smidge more to the frilly side, but still more tomboy than girly-girl. Some men like the fluffy little ornaments, and that's fine. Some women are made that way, they're adorable, and there are men that love them. Others like a woman who will go on adventures with them, and that's fine too. There's room for us all. Erin will find her match.
G-F, you are a caution! That little exchange just spotlights what our world has become. That poor lady was probably just trying to determine if you wanted adjacent seats. Your reaction was fueled by the state of things today, perfectly understandable. Funny, but still kinda sad. Because Eloise and I are together a lot, travel together and practically finish each other's sentences, there have been occasions when I have sensed that people were "wondering" about us. That's when I find a way to mention that my son is married to her daughter, we share grandchildren, etc. Not really necessary, but it makes us more comfortable. It's a shame when the social climate is such that good friendships draw suspicion.
I'm having a terrible time finding the rugs I want for my new bedroom floor. I'll put "washable area rugs" in the search engine, and you wouldn't believe what comes up. Long, interminable collections of pictures of rugs that most definitely are not washable. Often there won't be a washable rug in the lot, yet the heading at the top of the page says "Washable Rugs." I wonder what causes that?
Well, better go feed my small companion. She just hates it when I stop off at the computer in the morning. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Oh, SG, you are absolutely right. I've seen it, and it's a wondrous sight. On the first trip that Eloise and I made to Mongolia, in 2004, we flew the northern route, up and over the North Pole. At one point, the pilot announced that a "pilot's halo" was visible from the left side of the plane, and that was our side. I had the window seat, as Eloise prefers the aisle, but she just climbed over me and we could both see it clearly. Like a colored ring, glowing with gold lights amid the colors, it looked like it was just lying on the snow. One of the most beautiful single sights I've ever seen. I'll never forget it. --Romeena

I just watched a favorite movie - "The First Wives' Club." I like all three actresses in it, and the whole premise is great. It's funny, but there's a thread of truth and "sweet revenge" in it as well. I've had a couple of friends who experienced the rejection the movie portrays, and for their sake, I thought it was really good.
Well, guess I'll try to put away some of this clutter, at least until my back starts to protest. I usually have about fifteen minutes, then it starts to burn and cramp and hurt, and I have to quit. Doc says that's normal, say to listen to my body and quit when it says so, and try again later. So, that's what I do. Little by little, I'll get this house in shape.
It's only 97° here right now, we must have had a cool front! Blessings --Romeena

That is a great story, Ro. I love when you share things about your life with Dale. I was never a tomboy, but wasn't a frilly girl, either. Somewhere in between...Now I would describe myself as middle-aged, farmhouse wife. I wear mostly shorts and t-shirts, and flip-flops (when I'm not barefoot). I have learned to wear something on my feet most of the time because of all the stickers around here. I do color my hair and wear make-up most days but care much less about appearances than I used to. Sometimes I feel guilty because I have really gone to "seed"! ha I don't even know if you would recognize me since you saw me 10 years ago, Ro. I have aged and expanded! hehe I can't help but wonder what kind of a sight I'll be in another 10 years.
Ro, I am keeping my eye on that tropical storm that is out there. It might come right in here next week, they say. Hope it doesn't turn ugly and cause a problem with Rob's wedding.
Chores to do..washing and changing sheets today and catching up laundry, among other things. I still have to go to the store and I think I will wait until it cools off some. Its near 100 here today.

No, PH, I think you were just a very well-adjusted boy. I've never understood why boys were discouraged from playing with dolls. I never encouraged my sons to do so, but never discouraged them either, and they did play with their sisters at times. Of course, their "play" sometimes included drawing mustaches on the doll with a marker, but oh well!
Those pictures of the circular rainbow are a lot like what we saw, with some exceptions. I think those rainbows are reflected against cloud cover. They look larger, as though more close up, and are a bit hazy. What we saw appeared smaller, but was very sharp and distinct, and did really look like it was just lying on the snow. It was a pretty clear day, very few clouds, and the halo was so sharply defined, it looked like you could just reach down and pick it up. A remarkable phenomenon.
Boo, I'm watching that storm too. However, if I know Rob and Richard, they have it covered. If the weather is bad, we'll probably just gather briefly in some sheltered spot, have the exchanging of vows, and that's that. They're very adjustable. I hope the storm wears out or turns though, because I think their sundown beach wedding will be so beautiful.
As for changes brought in the last ten years, don't feel lonesome! You may not know me either. Hair is completely silver, and I too have "expanded." When I do lose weight, wrinkles appear from everywhere, so I guess you just can't win.

Ha! I think we've had this lunch/dinner/supper discussion before, a long time ago. I've thought about since then, (I don't have a lot to do these days) and I've finally come to a conclusion regarding how those terms were/are used around here. I think it goes like this: On regular old weekdays, we have breakfast, lunch and either dinner or supper, depending on how fancy the meal may be, but it's usually supper. If we're having guests, or if Mom has made an unusually large or elaborate meal, it might be dinner. Then on Sunday (or a big holiday), it's breakfast, dinner and supper, no exceptions. How does that stack up with everyone else?
I just found a sale at one of my favorite online clothing stores - my beloved t-shirts, in an array of jewel-tone colors, for 6.99. You can bet I ordered some! They also had a coordinated collection of "bigshirts", also at about half-price, so I ordered some of them as well. They make a nice pairing with the tees, and with some jeans, I'm all set.
Well, guess I'll go rustle up some lunch. I know, it's Sunday, and I should call it dinner, but when it's just me, and I'm probably going to open a can of soup, "dinner" seems a bit ostentatious. Especially when I'm going to eat sitting in my chair in the living room, in front of the TV. Now, if Big Maude will FedEx a plate to me too, I promise you, I'll call it dinner.
Blessings! --Romeena

Folks, earlier today, I watched the "Guest in the House" episode where Andy's female cousin shows up after having a fight with her boyfriend. At the very end of the episode, Andy brings the boyfriend to the Taylor's house. When the female cousin sees him, she smiles as she runs to him. When Aunt Bee peeks from the kitchen, the cousin and boyfriend are embraced a passionate kiss on the lips. Then when Aunt Bee turns to Andy and Helen, who are also in the kitchen, they are standing side by side facing away from Aunt Bee. I was expecting them to be embraced in a passionate kiss.
This got me to thinking. Does anyone ever remember Andy kissing any of his girlfriends on the lips in any episode?
Also, regarding the lunch/dinner/supper discussion, we have always preferred "lunch" for noon time and "supper" for evening time and have never experienced any confusion.

Hey, PH. In the ep where the teacher comes to town to confer with Helen about a new grading system, she breaks a date with Andy, Andy gets mad and starts to tell her off, and she gets mad and starts to chew him out. He can't hush her, so he just starts kissing her. Right full on the mouth!
In that ep you mentioned, PH, I get a strong desire to just slap Helen upside the head. The petulant, pouty little fit she throws in the car about Andy inviting Gloria to go out with them - if Andy had any sense, he would have broken things off with her right then. That was his warning of things to come. There's nothing worse than a jealous nature, unless it's a jealous woman with manipulative tendencies. "Do it my way or I'll make your life miserable."
It's 102° here, and very, very still, no breeze at all. Walk ten feet outside the door, and you're sweating. Possible thunderstorms are predicted - I hope so!
I will be glad when I get some stamina and strength back. This afternoon I finished cleaning that barrister cabinet - had four more compartments to go, and it flat wore me out. It's not that hard - remove the movies and beanie babies and what-not that were displayed in each compartment, wipe down and polish the shelf, clean the glass inside and out in the roll-back doors, and put everything back. No big deal at all, but it took all I had. There are ten compartments, I had already done six of them in the past few days, but those lower four were really dirty. Well, they're not now, they're clean, but I'm pooped!
Happy little finding, though. Several years ago, I bought an adorable little Swarovsky crystal frog for my DIL, and when I got ready to go out there for a visit, I couldn't find him! I searched high and low, and he just was not to be found. Well, guess what I found today. Back in a corner of one of the compartments, on top of some DVDs, was a small white box. I opened it, it contained a little round blue box, and I knew before I opened it that I had found the frog. Sure enough, there he sat. So, I'll get to give him to my DIL after all. She has a charming collection of Swarovsky pieces, so pretty.
Well, I think I'll have watermelon for supper. I've got one in the fridge, haven't cut it. I hope it's good. I just want something light tonight, and that will do nicely. I'll have to take some extra insulin, because watermelon really raises my blood sugar, but that's okay. That's why I have the insulin! Blessings, all! --Romeena

G-F, when you mentioned Barbie I thought of something that happened in walmart the other day. Erin and I were in the bakery section looking at birthday cakes (Erin turns 11 on Thursday) and there was this rather fatigued-looking man with three young boys, probably 5-8. One was taunting the other and kept repeating, "You want a Barbie cake! You want a Barbie cake!...and you want a Little Pony cake, too!"...it was so funny to watch but the dad didn't look like even heard a word of it. He was like a zombie just trying to get his shopping done. I had to chuckle...poor guy. haha
Around here it's brunch and supper most of the time. Seems like we don't want to eat until late morning, which means we don't have lunch. Usually a little snack between brunch and supper.
PH, Andy kissed Helen from time to time. Remember the episode with nurse Mary when they are parked in the car when Barney and half the town show up? At the end, Nurse Mary really lays one on Andy. That kiss always makes me raise my eyebrows a little. She seems a bit too enthusiastic to me. There was a rumor years ago...forgot who told us, that Sue Ann Langdon (who played the part) made some ugly statements about Andy, saying she thought he wasn't attracted to women or something. I'm not one to gossip, as Barney would say *hehe*, but I have a feeling that she was trying to romance Andy "off the set", if you know what I mean, and he refused her. She was probably trying to get even with her comments. There, I said it and I'm not takin' it back. hehe I don't recall that he ever kissed Ellie or Peggy, except on the cheek, though. Now, I think this is a subject we never actually discussed before. Glad you brought it up, PH.
Oh, we think alike, Ro...let's both slap Helen upside the head. ;)
Had not heard about the fires in Oklahoma City, MDC. That's too bad...these fires are such a terrible thing.
Better get to the chores...and they are many!

I am so sorry to hear this. We have been, and will continue to pray for healing for Miss Sherry, but it appears that this would be the time to remind myself, and the rest of us as well, that while God always heals, He also always chooses where and when it will occur. Sometimes it doesn't happen here on this earth, sometimes the healing takes place in heaven. We know that there is no illness there, because the Bible says in Rev. 21:4 - "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." I'll admit, that was small comfort to me in the weeks and months after I lost Dale, but in due time, it became very precious, and still is.
Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Woke up this morn to flooding. My basement, where my heat pump and water heater are has been completely covered again. 3xs. On top of that we had a severe wind storm the first of Aug and my roof is leaking bad. 4 rooms have leaks. The shingles all stood and some blew away. The Corps of Engineers built a new bridge and I get flooded every time the storm drain needs to be cleaned. Think I'll hire a lawyer. Pray about this with me. Thanks in advance. SG

Thanks, Boo. I'll be happy to have that. I'm sure I won't have any trouble finding you, as Amanda lives so near. She'll know where the address is. I am sooo looking forward to this trip. I just hope the weather cooperates, but if it doesn't - I know my family, they'll adjust.
Praying so hard for Spot and Miss Sherry this morning. They are always on my heart, and I step on the porch with hesitation each time, afraid of what I'll find. Why are we like that? Jesus said, "Let not your hearts be troubled. Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also." Rev. 14:1-3. This scripture, like so many others, in the first few days after Dale's homegoing, was a curious mixture of comfort and mockery to me. I wasn't interested in eternity, I was focused on the here and now. In time, though, they all came to be like the very breath of God to me, an all-encompassing assurance and comfort. I pray now for God's will to be done in the lives of our friends, and that God will give them the courage and strength they need at this most difficult time. --Romeena

Hi all. Dad not doing too well PB, he may be called home soon, we just have to let the Lord
do it as he wills. He tries, but the "umph" is going. But thanks for all the prayers porch.
A concert by REV would be nice, but our evening breeze is more like a blast furnance.
On the lighter side, I bought a frozen TV dinner at the store, and by the time I got home it was cooked and ready to eat! ha
Also PH, 2 more eps I thought of, in the Reunion, Andy kisses Sharon Despaine, and in Andy's Rich Girlfirend, he kisses Peggy whilst they stand on her front porch. One very tender moment of the whole series!
The Lord bless you and keep you,

Good Evening Friends-
I am saddened about Miss Sherry's condition. The Lord knows. As ive said Spot I'm here and happy to help! Continued prayers.
My in-laws in Ohio still use breakfast, dinner, and supper.
MDC- I hope you enjoy your time with your father.
I am not a fan of Helen myself. She got on my nerves. Ellie was my favorite of Andy's girlfriends. I was always embarrassed by Barney's many kisses on women.
Boo- girls are maturing at a much faster rate these days. I think chastity belts should become fashionable again. Haha
Hey to everyone! My ankle is bothersome tonight so I will talk to y'all later.

Morning Porch.
My prayers continue for Miss Sherry and Spot. Please bless them both during this difficult time.
Sorry to hear your Dad is not doing so good MDC. Likewise, He and you are in my prayers buddy.
Boo, we need some good Thelma Lou and Bernie stories, or MIL stories or something. They always make me smile.
I've just about had it with the wasps around here. Yesterday was the worst. I was 40ft high in my bucket truck, and had dropped a light fixture access cover to replace a light ballast. Well little did I know there was a big old nest in there. Boy was they mad. I managed to get the boom lowered without getting stung somehow, but I wasn't about to go back up there with them all fired up. So the plan is to do it first thing this morning while it's cooler and they are not so active. Hit em with some spray and hopefully get the ballast changed out. They are just terrible this year. Wish me luck. At least they ain't bats. :)

Asa, That's right be thankfull for little blessings. We use a product called "Wasp Freeze" it works really good! (especially for the ones you don't want to talk to!) You just give 'em a shot of the "BIG FREEZE"...haha
Boo, I'm with Asa, I miss those "Funny Farm" stories too! You guys getting rid of some of your herd kinda made me sad...But I do understand animals can be a handfull! But if they was Giraffes...Just think you'd be the only ones around to have one, and ya could mount a sattelite dish to his head and get real good TV reception, maybe start your own TV network called "BOO" TV...Just a thought, ya know my bucket is'nt used just for cleaning ya know!
Auh2o good to see your post, have not heard from ya for awhile,Have not needed to send ya weather alerts much....same story hot, hot, hot, but they say a cool front coming my way 70's on the weekend,so maybe by Sunday your way?...G-F..

Good morning, porch! I'm up early today - got an appointment with a doc for what should be a minor procedure. For years I've had a little knot on the back of my left shoulder, about the size of a small marble, non-tender, never bothered me, and several docs have called it a lipoma. Harmless. Well, about a week ago it woke up and seems to be about as mad as Asa's wasps. It's larger, red and puffy, and very tender. I saw my primary doc yesterday, and they made an appointment with a general surgeon. It should just be a simple office procedure to remove whatever it is, but Eloise insisted on driving me over there. Guess I'd better get dressed, she'll be here shortly. Seems I just can't stay away from guys with scalpels these days.
I worked too hard around here yesterday, back was hurting but there was laundry to do and I'm still trying to declutter this house, so I just pushed on through it. This morning I feel like I've been beaten up. I did have a moment of good sense, though. The granddaughter of a SS friend is trying to raise money to live on until she gets a job, after she moves to Montana to go to school. She said if anyone had any odd jobs she could do, she'd be ready and able. So - she's coming here in the morning, to do the dusting and vacuuming that has not been done for literally weeks around here. I suppose I could dust, but the vacuuming is not on my list these days, not for a while anyway. That monster vacuum would wear me out. It's a good arrangement. I need the help, she needs the money, and we can help each other. She's a nice girl, moving out there to work on a degree in animal science, specifically wildlife conservation. That, of course, really appeals to me and I want to help her.
Asa, did you ever get any of that wasp spray I found? You may have told me, but I guess I missed it. Anyway, that stuff WORKS! I never saw anything like it. I hit a nest with it, and not one wasp flew. They all just dropped instantly, in a little mound beneath the nest. Incredible.
Well, better go. Praying for Spot and Miss Sherry. We love you. --Romeena

A cool front, G-F?! Man, I'm crying on my keyboard! It will be 95 here today with high humidity, which means it will feel like 105!
The animals have been behaving themselves lately so not too many stories to tell, I'm afraid. Berney is getting nicer...doesn't even threaten when I go to feed them. I have been giving them some extra treats and that could be why. I cleaned out the pantry and gave them some old cereal and such (them and Thelma Lou) and they loved it. Thelma is doing fine...just grazes all day and gets her treats in the evening. She is getting along fine with the dogs and I caught her giving my lab a tongue bath like she used to do when the dog was a pup. She thinks she's the dogs mother, I guess. She bathes the dog then the dogs gives her a few affectionate licks in return. My heeler/lab pup (Ollie) is doing well...no more infections and seems to be feeling fine. He is still pretty low-key by nature and I like him just fine. He tries to "herd" us now and then by nibbling or scrathing at our feet to try to get us going in the direction he wants us to go. We had company the other night and when they got out of the car, Ollie walked over and sat on the woman's feet. Guess he wanted her to stay where she was! haha
I had a dream about SPOT last night...he and Sherry had come for a visit and the next thing I knew we were walking in the woods and poor SPOT fell into a big cistern of green water! I had to help him out of it. Probably just a subconsious desire to help him in the difficult situation he is in, I guess. Lord be with him and Miss Sherry.
Better git...things to do.
Good luck with your surgical procedure, Ro.
