December 13, 2011 - Msg 86591: Morning porch, hope everyone is up and ready for face today with a big ole smile. Working as usual and supposed to be a busy day. seems like this time of year my schedule is crazy.

lots to do both here and at home... Christmas Eve and Christmas day will be at my house so I have to start thinking about my menu's and do the grocery shopping. Most of my shopping is done and wrapped and under the tree but I still need to make a stop or two which I guess I will do in the next 2-3 days.

Beth is out of school after today and Patrick will be home for about 4 weeks on Thursday. Wow time has flown.

Thanks so much for the Christmas Cards I have received so far. I mailed my Porch cards to the addresses I had so if anyone was left out I apologize, it was because I did not have an address for some of the new porch family members. Just remember Maude says Merry Christmas!!

Breakfast menu: waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs,
coffee, juice, milk, tea to drink.

My friend Terrie has round 4 of her Chemo tomorrow so hopefully she will be feeling up to par by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and can enjoy them. Please remember her in your prayers.

Guess I had better get going. Prayers and blessings to all.

Big Maude

December 13, 2011 - Msg 86594:
Prayers for miss Terrie and miss Sherry!

December 13, 2011 - Msg 86595: Good morning, porch! It's chilly and gray here today, mid-fifties but seems colder. No rain yet, but if it doesn't, it's going to miss a good chance. We need the rain to break this drought we've been in, and I will welcome it, but it sure makes a mess of my outside lights! Oh well.

Tom, I'm glad your SIL is doing well. I'm sure that's a load off your mind. I'm so sorry your stepdad is still in pain and feeling lonely. Tom, how old is he? And is he a Christian? Many times, when people get very old, and their body fails, they get depressed. This is especially true of someone who is not a Christian, but it can happen to anyone. Just keep reminding him that God loves him, and don't let him make you feel guilty for not doing more than your own strength will allow. I know life is not easy for you and your strength is limited. Do what you can, reassure him that you love him, but set limits. When you go to visit, tell him how long you can stay, and then don't feel guilty when you have to leave. After all, you could have just not gone to visit him at all. Sometimes old people get a little childish, and I'm sure he IS lonely there in the hospital, but you can't let him wear you out until you get sick. Who will take care of him, if you're both sick? I will surely be praying for you and your situation, and I'm quite sure the rest of the porch will join me in that.

Prayers also for Terrie, and for our own Spot and Miss Sherry. Speaking as one who has experienced it, I can say that chemo is no picnic, and can be really rough. I spent a year feeling every day like I had a fresh case of the flu - aching, weak and nauseous. Most of my hair came out, my eyes burned all the time, my mouth was sore, and I had zero energy. That was 32 years ago! Got it? 32 years ago! It was rough, but it was worth it. I know, some of the drugs in use today are even more harsh than what I took, but we must assume they're also more effective. One rough year, in exchange for at least 32 healthy and happy ones? I think I got a bargain!

Gotta run take Toye Starr to Dr. Mike for the other half of her immunizations. I think I told you he won't give the full doses at the same time because she's so tiny, so today is the day to finish them up. Poor baby, she gets so scared, but then all is forgotten.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

G-F....not only did I eat veggies platter, I drank water and lemon...no Cheerwine. I was a good boy:)

Boo mentioned about finding out there was no Santa....well one year I decided to tell my parents what I wanted, then I told Santa something different just to see which one I would get.....you can guess which one I got..but I kept it a secret..hehe

Well you all have a blessed day. May get to check in later tonight.

Don't go crazy Tom. We already have G-F, And he's crazy for all of us,

Well sorry for the short holler, but I gotta get.

Asa

December 13, 2011 - Msg 86602: G-F at the gigolo club in Yancey?! Was he part of the floor show? By the way, Asa, you still doing your toolbelt dance on weekends? Hmmmmm?? It's been a long time since I saw a man in a toolbelt. I think I'll go down to Home Depot. (I'll bet G-F wonders what on earth I am talking about).

MDC, there really was a man with the golden arm, only it was actually paper mache' and spray painted gold and the guy was no saint. The arm is in the museum of kitch in Eureka Springs Arkansas....what?...don't believe me? Google it...or don't..makes me no difference. ;)

Today I went to help my sister gather donated toys and did some shopping for the girls at the drug rehab. You wouldn't believe all the work that has to be done for the charity organization St. Susan runs. I helped out for awhile but Erin starting feeling bad again and needed to come home and rest. You wouldn't believe how hot and humid it is here in south texas today. Not very Christmasy weather here.

Well, better go get a few things done.

December 13, 2011 - Msg 86604: Hey, porch. Just got home from the dinner at church, for the deacons and wives, and we widows of deacons were guests, as usual. Our way is paid, and we are picked up and escorted. So nice. The entertainment was a young man named Keron Jackson. He is a heavyset, barrel-chested black man, and you just look at him and think "Bass. Yep, he sings bass, and he does it very well." And you would be right. He was raised in the projects, and ended up with a music scholarship to Baylor, thanks to the intervention of some church folks who recognized his talent and potential, and set about to make it happen. Not only is he a thrillingly good singer, but he's funny as well. We thoroughly enjoyed his concert, and look forward to him coming back. He had CDs to sell, and would you believe, he picked up on the fact that some of us were the widows of deacons, and insisted upon giving us our copy. We played one of them in the car coming home - "Deep River" - and it was beautiful. Isn't it amazing how God sometimes reaches down into the most unlikely circumstances, picks up one unpromising individual, and makes them His own? This young man could easily have been a street thug, but look how God is using him.

Well, it's drizzly right now, but so far all my lights are still on. Every year, I try to isolate the sensitive connection, and sometimes I find it, but every year it's something different. I have about 20 little green plastic buckets that I turn upside down over the timers and power posts, and any other major connection points, but that doesn't seem to help. I think it's probably where the lights on a deer's foot touch the ground, or a socket on one of the twinkle lines or something. Sometimes I can isolate it by unplugging everything, turning the power back on, and then plugging things in one by one until something trips it. That at least gives me the general area, but honestly, it's just not worth the effort. I just wait until it dries out, then turn it all back on and reset the timers. It's an annual aggravation, but it's so pretty when it's all on, that it's worth it.

Well, Toye Starr is in here patting me on the ankle, asking for attention, so guess I'd better heed the call. She's such a loving little thing. She got her final half of her 3-year rabies vaccine today, doesn't seem to be bothering her. She's little, but she's tough!

Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Hello porch family....porch ius kinda lonely today.

Ro...sounds like a good time at your church dinner. And yes it's amazing what God can do in the life of someone that would have most likely ended up going down the wrong road.

MDC....enjoy the rain brother. What's your temp in Phx? I've probably told you this in the past but some years ago we were doing a concert in the Phx area. Afterward we headed on up to the Grand Canyon. Man it was hot. We wanted to see the sun set so we went to a spot on the canyon rim that was suppose to be great (and it was). But we noticed people carrying coats in. We thought they were nuts....it was HOT. So we hiked in and got us a good spot to relax and wait for the sun to set. We found out why those folks had a coat and that those folks were not as dumb as we thought. We nearly froze our %$&# off. Everytime we think about that now we just laugh.

Well you all have a good night and sleep tight.

MDC, It looks like more rain coming your way. Enjoy it.

Romeena, Has anyone ever changed out your GFI outlets? Not saying this is the case with yours, but sometimes they can get like Barney, a bit over sensitive and trip out early. Just a thought you might want to consider.

We will be having hotdogs, popcorn, big dill pickles like you get at the movies, soft drinks, hot chocolate, and coffee. I guess we will be watching "Elf" with an intermission, showing a vintage cartoon and some vintage intermission clips. It should be fun.

I think I will do the unthinkable and take a short nap.

December 16, 2011 - Msg 86644: Just got home from my Sunday School department Christmas party. What good fun and fellowship with good friends, mostly old-time friends, and some new ones as well. The entertainment was all home-grown, no "imported" talent, and it was good. We have a lot of talent in our church, and even if they forget words or flub a line, nobody cares. Just good fun.

I'm so glad that Miss Sherry is having fun in the Big Apple. She needed some time away, to just have a good time and enjoy herself. I was in New York many years ago, when it wasn't exactly a tourist-friendly place, and I wasn't interested in going back. However, my brother and SIL go there at least once a year, to jewelry shows and such, since he's a jeweler. They love it, and tell me that it's so different now than what I remember. I'm sure they're right. A couple of my kids visit there fairly often as well, and they say the same thing - that it's beautiful, very interesting, and really a great place to visit. I've decided I want to go again now, after hearing all of that. I'd love to see a couple of the shows, I've always loved stage productions and know I'd enjoy that. I hope Miss Sherry gets to see a good show or two. Maybe Spot will bring her to the porch and get her to tell us about her trip.

Well, I guess I'll turn in. I need to get up early in the morning and get busy around here. The place looks like a rummage sale that failed, I've got presents to wrap, and am cooking dinner for David and Brittney and the kids, and Eloise and Jerry tomorrow night. David requested either pork chops or round steak (fried, of course, with cream gravy), and I couldn't decide, so got some of each. There will be leftovers, but that's okay. I love leftovers!

Tom, you're very welcome. I'm glad Don dropped by. He's a great guy, isn't he? One of God's earthly angels, I think.

Blessings, porch! --Romeena

December 17, 2011 - Msg 86645: Good Evenin'/Mornin' Porch,
I am SO sorry for being absent so long. I had a horrible cold then we went out of town for Thanksgiving where I didn't have much internet. Last week I had another ankle surgery. My itouch was dropped in the toilet and the children have been doing projects and papers on the laptop, so I have not been able to write. I hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas season. Thank you to those that have sent me Christmas cards. I do so enjoy them.

Ro-I agree with you on the Christmas episode. It's probably my favorite too. Although the Pickle story is really close.
Tom- I'm so sorry to hear about your Stepdad. I hope you will also cheer up. It's Christmas and the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Spot- Glad Miss Sherry is having fun. I've been to NYC twice and it is an experience. Can you believe how warm it is here in GA?
Rev- Is your daughter home for the holidays?
Boo- It's so nice that you're still working with the girls.
Possum- I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I'll be praying. If you want to talk feel free to message me on Facebook.
G-F- I hope to get to know you better. You seem like a fun guy!
Asa- How's your grandbabies?
Gizmo- Merry Christmas!
PH- I have always felt like going by Miss Ellie, but never did because someone was using it. When was the last time it was used? I'm thinking of using it if it's been awhile. I have been listening to season 1 on youtube and feel like she is a kindred spirit.

Well, I will check in as soon as I can again. Y'all take care and know you're all in my prayers.

Last night while driving home from the weekly lodge mtg. @ the Cracker Barrel got to thinkin of the things I'm thankful for this past year, gotta say it was finding all you nut cases here on the porch.(I do mean that in a kind way). Not much of a computer person but I found my nitch here for sure! Don't have to explain Mayberryism's because ya all know em'.
Mrs. G-F & others can't seem to understand the compelsion, what people can't seem to get is that it soooo much more than a TV show!
Do your guys spouses & friends, understand why it means so much to you?? Was just wondering...
Be sure to "act like somebody" today..G-F
ps Lucy...I'm a easy study, and at times I'm a hard study, I'm bout as deep as Kelsey's Pond! We all don't know how deep that is, sooo now I got ya all wondering.....haha.....
(Maybe you can call me "deeplyshallow"????)

December 17, 2011 - Msg 86649: Howdy, porch! G-F, I agree completely with you - this porch is definitely one of my blessings, and we're glad you found us. To answer your question, my husband did understand, and was a TAGS fan all the way. I can still hear him, when looking at a sagging cabinet, or a clogged drain - "You'd better just call the man!" He wasn't exactly Mr. Fixit, and he knew it. The few times he tried to do it himself, he got into more trouble than you can imagine. One clogged drain ended up in an ins@rance claim for a new sink, counter top, antique tablecloth and a new kitchen floor! Bless his heart! He told our friends if they wanted their kitchens remodeled, he'd come over and work on their drain a while, and they'd get their wish.

I do know what you mean. Don't you just hate it when a TAGS-ism would just fit perfectly, but you know if you say it, everyone is going to look at you funny? I usually say it anyway, and those who know me at all will just say "It's probably from the Andy Griffith Show."

Lucy, it's good to see you! We've missed you, been wondering where you were, and also HOW you are. Sounds like you're doing okay, and we hope you're home to stay.

I guess I'd better get back to my cluttered house and try to restore a bit of order. I'm not sure about that meal for the family tonight - Brittney is under the weather, sounds awful. We may postpone it to Monday night - I'm expecting David to call me back shortly - but I still need to get this mess under control.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

December 18, 2011 - Msg 86654: Happy Birthday Spot. Get over here and I'll scratch your back! Is that 52 in dog years? :)

Lucy, my goodness. As many operations you have had on that ankle maybe you should have them install a zipper on it. Hope it will heal for you. The Grand kids are doing great, thanks for asking.

Possum, G-F gave some wonderful thoughts. I am praying for you as you go through this ordeal. I'm sure it's hard, but it will get better. As Andy told Goober (I think it was Goober) "the sun will shine in your back door again". (can anyone remember what episode that was from? I can't.)

Boo, you still feeling ok? Don't get sick on us. This ain't the time to be feeling poorly.

Well I better get rolling.

Prayers for all.

Well folks, our government has declared it to be official. As of 6:59am Eastern Standard Time this morning, the United States has ceased offensive operations in Iraq. Supposedly, all American troops have left Iraq and are in Kuwait preparing to come home.
I salute everyone who has served and pray for those who did not survive.

December 19, 2011 - Msg 86663: Morning all. Happy Monday.

Boo, I'm sorry your ailing. Not a good week to get sick. Get plenty of rest, and try not to worry about all that's not getting done. I threw my back out yesterday, and now I'm walking crooked. I really need to be on the job today because we are installing a new rooftop a/c unit, but it ain't happening. And least I ain't happening. I finally had to take a muscle relaxer, and when I pop one of them little fellers, I just kinda turn to jello. Oh well, thats life, thru and thru.

Boy Spot, you had all partying for you yesterday. Now I guess you'll want another one on Thursday. Oh, what the hey. You're worth it buddy. Happy birthday to your pappy.

Possum, hang in there. You will get through it all just fine.

I will join P.H. in thanking all who have and still are serving our country. I pray our leaving Iraq at this time is based on reality and not on political expediency. But regardless, I am thankful for all who serve our nation.

Well I gotta go get some ice on this back. I hope my Doctor can see me today to give me an adjustment. He can sure put me right most of the time, and keep my down time to a few days rather than a few weeks.

Prayers for all.

December 19, 2011 - Msg 86664: Good Monday morning porch, just checking in.
Sorry your ailing BOO, maybe some of Colonel Harveys Elixir would make you feel better (or at least not care about being sick!)

Happy Birthday to SPOTS dad.
Patrick turns 21 on Wednesday and SPOT 52 on Thursday. Maybe we should have a part at O'Malleys.

It's pretty cold this morning on my end of the porch. 27 degrees but sunny. It is supposed to be about 52 later today.

Guess I am about ready for Christmas. got the presents bought and wrapped and under the tree. Now I need to go grocery shopping later this week. I dread that more than anything.

Hope everyone is doing well. Prayers for Possum and Miss Sherry and everyone else.

Breakfast menu will be: fresh hot cinnamon rolls,
sausage, bacon, eggs, toast. coffee, tea, juice to drink.

Ya'll have a blessed day.

December 19, 2011 - Msg 86665: Good morning, porch! Cloudy day here, supposed to have mild to severe thunderstorms later this evening. I guess ALL my Christmas lights will shut themselves off if that happens. Oh well. Sure glad I got that new roof on before any bad storms hit. Now I guess we'll see how it performs. They're promising winds up to 65 mph - that should take care of all the leaves on the roof and in the front yard. With any luck, it will take the last ones off the trees, and will pile them all up against the east fence, where they'll be easy for Eddie to manage. I haven't put the leaf net over the pond yet, just been scooping them out. Not sure that was a wise choice, but I can't do it without help, and help wasn't around when I was in the mood, so it didn't get done.

I have to attend a funeral today. An old friend, and former member of my church, passed away after a long battle with cancer. She and I and a couple of others were "pageant buddies" in the years of the spectacular Christmas pageant my church used to do. Hey, we were even on TV, it was that good. We don't do that pageant anymore, and my friend moved to Ft. Worth and joined a church there - the same one my David and Brittney attend. Anyway, I have lovely memories of the time we spent together in choir, and I know she will be celebrating Christmas with Jesus this year, and she's out of the misery she was in, so I can only rejoice. My grief is for her family and friends, and I'm grateful that I was one of those friends. She was a good friend, a lot of fun, and sang so beautifully. Heaven's choir is one voice prettier now.

I have asked before for prayer for my friend Ray, and I must ask again. Ray is still fighting, but is near the end, I fear. Please pray that God will allow him to remain until after the Christmas season. I hate to think that his wife would have that memory forever associated with Christmas. Ray, like my other friend, is a child of God, and is ready to go, but we are all going to miss him so much. He's one of God's servants on this earth, unashamed and untiring in his service.

This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. --Romeena

Yup, my Cards hung in there and beat the Browns!
Regarding the "end of the war," the "combat" troops are out yes, but there ARE actually still troops in there, including my nephew, so there is some smoke and mirrors "goings on". But may they all be safe! Still, I'm glad the dictator is gone, that the UN resolutions were carried out, (even tho I'm not big on the UN), and that those who "first voted FOR it, then against" are out of the picture! ha We were VICTORIOUS in our mission, I just wish some DC types would say that!
OK, there's my 2 cents about that.
I think found a blooper in the Christmas Ep! When Ellie is singing, and counting the clean plates "yet to be used" you can see that the turkey is nothing but bones! Oops! ha
Prayers for all,

December 19, 2011 - Msg 86671:
MDC, I have since learned that military personnel remain in Iraq as part of the embassy security detail. Is your nephew assigned to this detail?

MDC, you are absolutely correct about that blooper in the Christmas episode. I'm surprised I never noticed it before. Watch the episode at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEimU7BOLJk and cue it up about 17 minutes in.
While Aunt Bea and Ellie are bringing out some food and placing it on the table, there is a pile of clean dishes on the table. And when Ellie sits on the table to sing, you can see all the clean knives, forks and spoons lined up on the table behind her. All this gives me the impression they haven't eaten yet. But when you glance at the turkey, there is hardly any meat left! After Barney enters as Santa, that is when they begin serving the food.
I think I found another blooper in that same episode. About 22 minutes in when Ben is handing out the presents from his suitcase, he gives the bottle of shaving lotion to Ellie!

December 19, 2011 - Msg 86672: Hey there!

Thank y'all for the mentions. I'm in pain, but overall doing well. As Andy says, I'm middlin'. Today is the first day I've officially felt in the Christmas spirit because I watched the original versions of Miracle on 34th Street and The Bishop's Wife with the very handsome Cary Grant. I had the tree lit. Now if only I could make desserts, but not yet.

Boo- I was incredibly sick and found that the only thing that would help my head is the Sudafed that's behind the calendar and Mucinex DM for my cough. Get well girlie!
MDC- I hate your nephew is still there and pray for his safety.
Romeena- Prayers for Ray.
Big Maude- Have you tried Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls? I am cheating this weekend by making Pillsbury's because of my surgery, but when all healed I want to try them. Lots of butter.
Spot- Your birthday is on the same day as my bonus daughter, but I think you'll be a bit older than she at age 16.
G-F- I like your comment "deeply shallow"! Ha!

I hope everyone has a great night!

Asa- A good chiropractor is a gift. We like Atlas Orthogonal chiros. I've had 2 back surgeries and will be having my 3rd from my car accident in the spring and found lying on the floor on my Tempurpedic with pillows under my knees and legs.

what i dont like is the fact that some of this whole thing is politicalposturing. Oh well, it is good to have so many safer tonight.
Tomorrow...my 12 days of Christmas! woohoo.
PH, Boo, and RO- one thing I thought of
is that they could have "cut up the turkey and put the slices on another platter" as an explanation for the appearance. ha

December 20, 2011 - Msg 86675: Morning Dears. Pray all is well for everyone.

Ro, My prayers for Ray, especially that he might make it through the holidays. And for his wife. That has to be hard on her.

Boo, I'm sorry you're ailing so bad. I hope you get feeling better before the weekend. Not fun to be sick for Christmas.

Lucy, sounds like you need a zipper on your back as well as your ankle. :) My Doctor saw me yesterday and did his magic. Although today I'm still quite sore, I'm better than I was. Mine is a case of my pelvis dislocating. I think it happened when y'all started talking about my toolbelt dancing. I just had to try it for old times sake. LOL

MDC, tell Pappabear Merry Christmas for me.

I don't know about y'all, but I love finding the small little boo boo's in TAGS. I don't know why. It's just kinda fun. And sometimes I think errors were made during the filming, but they just rolled with it rather than redo it. Maybe because of time constraints, or maybe budget reasons. Not sure why. Case in point was the episode where Opie is getting his milk money taken from him by the bully. After Opie leaves for school, Aunt Bee and Andy go in the kitchen and she slices Andy off a piece of apple pie. But then she realizes she doesn't have a plate to put it on. Andy smiles and asks her "you getting a little flustered"? Anyway, it seems to me somebody messed up by not having a plate there on the table, but the actors just rolled with it and shot the scene. If you get a chance, watch it, and tell me what you think of it.

Guess I better get. I was going to try to go to work today, but I'm just sore enough that I think I better not. I have a bunch of vacation built up, so might as well use it.

Prayers for all.
