Yep, ASA...why are about to fry down here. Here on the coast, though, it gets into the 80's at night...Ro must really be suffering up in Irving. We just need rain so badly. My place is like a big, dry sandbox. When I walk out my back door and walk to the barn, I feel like I am in one of those movies where a guy is trudging through the desert, across the sands, in search of water. Kind of like that scene in that "Vacation" movie when Chevy Chase takes his family to Wally World. Remember the scene where he puts his pants on his head and stumbling across the desert?...yea, that's me.

August 19, 2011 - Msg 85154: Good morning, porch. First of all, I heard from Tom. He emailed me, said he's okay, just had something he had to get done. He didn't give any details, but I'll bet he could use a few prayers. So - prayers for Tom, and come on back, buddy, as soon as you can. We miss you.

REV, by the time you're here in November, it should be pretty decent. Could even be cold! Wow. I can barely remember what that feels like, but I know it happens.

Well, off I go. Gotta get a quick shower and wash my hair, and then pick up Eloise and take her to the eye doctor. He's going to dilate her eyes, so she can't drive. We'll probably stop and get some lunch first, haven't decided where, but her eye doc is in an area of town that has some interesting choices. Then next week, she'll be taking me to the hand surgeon to get this carpal tunnel repair done. I don't know what we'd do without each other. I just love to trace what God does. When my Dale passed, my son David had a date (the second one) with Eloise's daughter, Brittney. He called her to break the date and to tell her what had happened. That touched her tender little heart, and that girl got in the car and drove to Fredericksburg alone, to be there for David. She gathered up all the small children and took them out back to the trampoline and kept them busy all afternoon, and out from underfoot. That touched David, and he realized what a gem she is. They kept dating, and married in about two years. That put Eloise in my life, and me in hers. I had known the family at church for many years, but we were in different departments, so were just acquaintances. They "adopted" me along with David, and the rest is history. Eloise is like the sister I never had, and I cherish her friendship. God can make good things out of bad things, friends. He does it all the time!

Blessings! --Romeena

August 19, 2011 - Msg 85156:
In the early 19th century, when boxing contests were quite popular, especially among the Irish imigrants, one who wished to challenge a boxer would throw his hat into the ring. This was probably necessitated by the noise at such events; you'd be missed if you simply tried to shout out a challenge or push your way through the crowd and into the ring. John Hamilton Reynolds wrote in The Fancy: "Throw in his hat, and with a spring get gallantly within the ring." This is from 1820 and is the first recorded use of the term.
The phrase soon came to be used figuratively to mean "to enter a contest" and then "to enter a political contest". Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt used it in 1912: "My hat's in the ring", he said, meaning that he had entered the presidential race.

August 19, 2011 - Msg 85161: Oh, Boo, the way you enjoy old movies, you just must see "The Flight of the Phoenix." It's really a good one.

Well, I got Eloise home - she can't see a bloomin' thing, hope she doesn't trip over something at home and break another bone. I told her to get in her chair and stay there until Jerry gets home. She won't do it, though. I'm debating whether to lie down for a nap before going to work -it would be a short one, not sure it's worth it. I may just stay up.

It is soooo hot! It's 106 degrees at 3:42, will probably get a couple of degrees warmer before sundown, it usually does. A big tree in Eloise's back yard looks like it's dying. She's watering it, but it's really struggling. It's one that shades the house in the morning, so it would be a real pity to lose it (I hate losing a tree anytime!) and where it's located, taking it down will be an expensive challenge. I sure hope it makes it. We've got trees dying all over town, but usually you can see why - the grass beneath them is dead and brown. A lot of people are hanging by a thread financially, and watering the lawn is one of the first things to be cut. It's usually false economy though - dead trees mean higher electric bills, and dead grass and shrubs usually precede foundation cracks. Water is the answer, and it's still pretty cheap. We have to be judicious and conserve, yes, but you just can't quit watering. It costs more in the long run.

Well, I think I've decided that even a short nap is better than none, so will see you good folks in the morning. Blessings! --Romeena

August 20, 2011 - Msg 85172: Morning, all. Just got home from work, feel like I've been "beat with a stick" - ready for a nap. It'll be a short one, though. Have to attend a wedding shower at 2, then back at the hospital at 6:30 for a meeting, and I know they're going to try to talk me into staying and working at least part of the shift. Not a-gonna do it, though. That would mean I couldn't go to church in the morning, and I don't like that. I work my fair share of Saturday nights, don't plan to take on any extras. Guess I'm just a mean old lady.

REV, I don't know how, or why, but I have had it in my head forever that you were coming in November. I know it's October, but I just keep changing it. I think it's because the Mayberry Cruise this year is in November, and it's always been in October. If you'll remember, it has worked out that we got home mid-afternoon of the night you were here. Just barely had time to change clothes and get up to the church, one of the times. I think that's where my hang-up is.

Well, I'm going to go eat my Sausage Egg McMuffin (if God invented anything any tastier, he kept it for himself) and then try to catch a little nap before that shower. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

August 20, 2011 - Msg 85173: Good Morning porch, hope everyone is okay today. A warm August day on my end of the porch, sunny and about 80 degrees.

Been busy this week. Took Tuesday thru Friday off to spend with Patrick and get him ready to go on Monday. We moved his furniture and other things down yesterday. A three hour trip one way.
Kinda like Gilligan and the Skipper but we made it back home by about 8pm. He has a three bedroom, 2 bath apartment with 2 other boys in the same program as him. They have the same classes and are like Patrick in the sense that they are good students, don't drink, do drugs, smoke or seem to have other unsavory characteristics. He got to know them at the
community college where he took the pre engineering program the past 2 years. The apartment is about 1/2 mile from the college so they could walk, ride bikes or car pool if needed. The apartment was acutually cheaper than the dorms and they have their own bath can cook and will hopefully have more peace and quite. They are all entering as juniors so they did not have to live on campus. Hopefully it will work out okay. He will leave on Monday and start college life on Wednesday. PLease pray for ALL of us as we start this new chapter in our family.

Better get busy, laundry and such to take care of.

Lunch menu will be: Pizza pie with your choice of toppings. Tea, soda or lemonade to drink.

Prayers and blessings to all.

August 20, 2011 - Msg 85174: Your no mean old lady, Ro. I think it's crazy to even expect you to come in for a meeting this evening. I have to attend a funeral today at 2pm and I am not looking forward to that. One of my best friend growing up (Cinthia) lost her mom and called to ask me to please come to the funeral. Her mom was my mom's best friend for many years so it's sad, but the poor woman suffered from schizophrenia for years in her 60's and 70's and then had a brain aneurysm that had her in a vegetative ate for a couple of years. It was time for her to go on and be with the Lord and she was ready. I feel for my friend, though, who I know has some guilt associated with losing her. She felt so bad about not being able to spend more time with her, as she was in a nursing home out of town. I will be there for Cinthia. She has alot on her plate being a single mom and caring for her dad, who needs quite a bit of help. As many of you know, times get pretty tough when the parents get older and need our help.

Tired this morning..went to bed too late and got up too early! The guys are hear to work on tearing out the laundry room and putting up new drywall. Mom-in-law just called to say she is coming over, my brother-in-law is dropping by to talk to Bruce about something and then there is the funeral later. So much for a restful saturday. I had a nice evening yesterday, though. Erin was at an activity at church, Sean was at a friend's and Bruce took me out for Chinese food. We are rediscovering the fun of actual dates now that the kids are older and able to fend for themselves more. It's great.

Better get back to a few chores.

August 20, 2011 - Msg 85177: REV, I was not!! I was resting my eyes! (heehee)

Seriously, do you all ever just sit back and "listen" to the discussions here on this porch? I just love it! Sooner or later, we get around to just about anything that can occur in a family, or a person's life. We share things, good and bad, warts and all. We "bear one another's burdens", as the scriptures teach, and in so doing, the burdens lighten just a bit. To pray for a friend's needs is a privilege, and to be prayed for is a blessing. We are a true sample of American life, and I love it.

Well, guess I'd better run. My hair is still damp, but it'll be dry by the time I get to the wedding shower. However, I still have to stop at Target and get the bride-to-be a gift card. I learned from her mom that she really loves to shop at Target. I lean toward gift cards a lot, saves my rusty old brain from having to make a choice, and lets the recipient get what they really want. I like getting them, too. Eloise gave me a card for Charming Charlie's jewelry store. I'm saving it until just before the cruise, because I'll probably have a couple of new things to wear, and I'll need jewelry.

August 20, 2011 - Msg 85179: I'm back from the bridal shower, got a couple of hours before I have to be at the unit conference at work. I'm sitting here by my window, watching the funniest performance by a squirrel. Somehow, one lone pear managed to remain on my tree, and he wants it. The pear is attached to the tip of a very weak and spindly twig, out on the end of a limb that's not much stronger. Apparently the squirrel knows that the little limb won't hold him, so he has climbed out to the end of a somewhat stronger limb a little higher up. He has gotten to the very end, and discovered that he is too high to reach the pear. Now he's hanging by one back foot, dangling in space above that pear, trying to reach it but can't quite do it. Just to show how smart these little rascals are, he has started moving his body in such a way as to cause his limb to bounce. With each bounce, he gets a little closer to the pear. Watching now.... and he's got it! One swipe of a little clawed foot and he snagged it! Twisted his rubbery little body around, skittered back into the heart of the tree with his prize and now I can't see him anymore. So the score in the Great Pear War now stands at: Squirrels - about 957, Romeena - Zero. Yep, they got all my pears, and that tree was loaded. They pick them just before they're fit for human consumption. Another two days on the tree, and I could have picked and eaten them, but they got them first. Oh well. I can go buy pears, and they can't.

I tell you, I wouldn't take a dollar and a quarter for this window. I sometimes spend hours here, just watching the animals and birds out there. They do the most amazing things!

Blessings, all. --Romeena

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85181: Hello friends,

Beautiful summer day here in Wisconsin today. I was able to go out and enjoy it with a bike ride and yes, it was even enjoyable mowing the lawn.

Trying not to worry too much about the wife and expected child. She was put on bed rest Thursday because her blood pressure was getting up there. We bought one of those home blood pressure monitors, but I am not sure how accurate it is.
She was supposed to have a baby shower with the women at the church tomorrow after the service but I don't know if she'll be up to it. She doesn't seem to be doing too badly except for the blood pressure. And she's been following the doctors orders, pretty much. But I don't know if or when I should be concerned. Any of the nurses on the porch have any experience with this?

Just read up a ways about some of the hot weather some of you have been experiencing. Oops! Sorry about the talk before of the nice weather we have here. ;)

Oh, if you'd like to see a little puppet skit Kai and I did(with an epilogue from Kai at the end) just go to youtube and put in my name, you know.

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85183: Great to see ya, Sterling. Sorry to hear the mrs is having some trouble with her blood pressure...fairly common thing in pregnancy and bedrest should help. I cared for alot of patients with the same but my memory is a little rusty. What you can watch for at home is swelling, particularly of the face and hands, and if having headaches, or what is called epigastric pain, (which is a pain at the top of the stomach, under the sternum),check the blood pressure with any of those symptoms and inform her doctor. There are some things we would keep an eye on in the hospital or dr's office like urine protien and brisk reflexes, but I'm sure the doctor is checking those things at her office visits. Are they weekly now? Maybe Romeena can fill in the gaps on anything I missed.

Paranormal puppet??? Sounds scary....

Better get ready for preachin'

Boo

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85184: I don't think you missed a thing, Boo, except maybe visual disturbances - blurred vision and/or spots in the visual field. Sounds like good advice to me.

I missed preachin' this morning, arthritis really had me in its grip and I decided to stay home. Good thing I did. Toye Starr nearly scared me to death! When we woke up, she was just fine, bouncing all over the bed, got down, tugged on the covers to make me get up - her usual routine. I finally loosened up enough that I made it in here to the computer and sat here for about fifteen minutes. Then I felt something wet brushing my foot, and it was Starr's face! Her face, chest and front paws were soaking wet. I figured she had fallen face-first into her water bowl again. She does that sometimes - she's so little and light, that when she leans forward her back end comes up off the floor and she sort of falls into her bowl. Checked around the bowl - no splashes. Then I got a towel and started drying her off, and realized it wasn't water, it was saliva, and was still pouring out of her mouth like a river. Even with her mouth closed, it was running out. Then I found a small, bright-gold spot of emesis (throw-up to non-medical folks) on the floor. She was very lethargic, and obviously felt terrible. Her regular vet isn't in the office today, but would have met me there if I could have reached him. However, he was in church (same church I attend) so not available. So I called the Animal Emergency clinic I know he recommends, and off we went. Of course, by the time we got there, she had stopped drooling, her tail was up and wagging, and aside from smelling like vomit, she seemed just fine! They couldn't find a thing wrong, except for some slightly reddened tonsils, which could have come from the vomiting. So, $78 and a couple of gallons of gas later, we're home. I put her down when we got here, she immediately ran to the living room, tossed a few toys around, then got on her "racetrack" - the area around the coffee table - and ran about six laps just as fast as she could go. I have no idea what caused all of this, I'm just grateful that she's okay. I think I'll stake the $78 out of her allowance, though! (heehee) I'm going to let her rest a little while, then I've got to wash the stink off of her. She smells terrible.

Well, have a great Sabbath, everyone. Blessings! --Romeena

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85186: That's right Ro, I forgot the visual disturbances, thanks. Sorry to hear about old Arthur-Itis getting you down today. So glad little Toye Starr is feeling chipper again...must have really been scary there for a little while.

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85187: Well, drat! I went out to the pond to do a little maintenance, and mostly made things worse. The Scarecrow thing, the bird-getter, is leaking badly. I've got one happy little crape myrtle beside it, because it's had a constant drip going on. I tried to tighten things up, and now the drip is a dribble. Not good. Also, I unplugged the umbrella fountain to clean the components, and when I put it back together and plugged it back in, the pump won't run. I really don't think it's anything I did, because I've cleaned that thing a thousand times without a problem. I guess the pump is just tired. Anyway, I "called the man", my friend Ted, because that Scarecrow needs someone with more know-how than I have. I'll get him to look at the pump too, and if necessary, I'll just replace the thing. It's several years old, so guess I shouldn't complain.

My little hummingbird friend evidently has taken up residence, because he's here every day, just about anytime I look out there. Usually we just get them as they pass through on their travels, but I think this one has decided to stay. Precious little thing!

Yeah, Boo, Arthur and I have had a war going on for some time now. If I were to try to describe how I feel, I'd sound just like Emma. It's at its worst in the morning, I have to furniture-surf just to move through the house, but after a half hour or so, I start to loosen up and in a couple of hours I'm fine. I'm just grateful that it does release me, and very, very grateful that it's not the rheumatoid kind. I don't have any joint distortion, or knots on joints or anything. Just hurts, mostly. I have a sweet friend who plays the flute beautifully, but has had to give it up because her hands and fingers have become so twisted that she can't play anymore. Just breaks my heart.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up some supper. I stopped at Spring Creek last night and got some barbecue, enough for two meals. I'll finish it off tonight, along with a cauliflower I cooked this afternoon, and some cold pickled beets. I love the things! I really like cauliflower too, and cooking it in the microwave is sooo easy! Good stuff! Spot, if you're working, I'll send you a plate.

Blessings! --Romeena

August 21, 2011 - Msg 85188: Yes, Boo, she is having weekly visits now. Thanks to you and Romeena for the advice. She has had some swelling of the feet but I think that is normal? She knows to watch for headaches, but I have never heard of the epigastric pain. Will tell her to watch for that. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so we will see how things are going.

Don't let the Paranormal title scare you, Boo. :) It is actually about one puppet who says he is psychic, does some dumb trick(it really is dumb) and of course there is some other dumb puppet to believe it, and then the straight man(puppet) comes in to set the record straight after seeing the dumb trick himself. But Kai's talking bit at the end is the best part of it, actually.

Goodness Ro, I am glad Toye Starr is ok. It sounds like she ate something she shouldn't have. That could've been a lot worse. Glad it wasn't. If you haven't found what caused that, I hope Starr learned her lesson and stays away from whatever it was.

-Sterling Holobyte

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85189: Good morning, porch. I'm up very early (for me) as I have a doctor's appointment at 8 a.m. What on earth prompted me to make an appointment at that ridiculous hour, I don't know, unless it was the only time he had. That was probably it, because I've had the appointment for nearly three months. When they're booking that far in advance, you take whatever they offer.

Gonna be another hot one. It's 86 at 7:05, so we'll hit the triple digits for sure. I've about given up trying to keep the yard pretty, I'll be happy just keeping it alive!

Toye Starr is her usual self this morning, guess she's okay. Little comedian. She's worth every penny I spend on her, ever inconvenience, just for the privilege of waking up with laughter every day. Who can resist that funny little face, and her antics? She was truly a Godsend.

Well, off I go. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Boo, how was preachin? You didn't doze off, did you? :)

I actually watched some TAGS on TV Land yesterday. (I seldom do that cause of commercials) I watched the episode of Howard proposing to Millie. Now Millie seemed like a real sweet gal prior to them getting on the train to go up to Wheeling to meet her parents. But once on the train, she turned into a beast, a real beast. Why was that? Well who was she bunked up with? That's right. Boo's favorite character, Helen Crump! I think Helen must have coached Millie in the fine art of being a beast (I really cleaned up the language there) and Mille became an A+ student, cause she was almost unrecognizable later in the episode. In fact Helen seemed right sweet like compared to Millie. By golly, I think I'm on to something here.
What say you?

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85191: Good morning porch, back to work for me today. About an hour or so of playing catch up for me, returning phone calls, scheduling folks and such. Now it will be back to usual routine stuff. I am working till about 3 today and then will be going home to see Patrick off to Cookeville. It is only about a 3 hour drive from us and there is a 1 hour time change once he gets there. Cookeville is on central time ( an hour behind us) so be won't be to late getting there. It is not a bad drive at all, a straight shot down I-40 towards Nashville.

Mr. Maude and I went furniture shopping Saturday. We needed to purchase a new sofa and recliner for our family room (Patrick took the old stuff for college) and we also needed to get a new mattress for our bed. We had purchased a Simmons black elite mattress about 2 years ago but it was very uncomfortale and the material on the pillow top started bulging up and the front end of the mattress was also very uneven. not sure what caused the problems, We paid a pretty penny for the mattress. Anyway, we went back to the same furniture store and since it will still under warranty we traded up to a temperpedic mattress. We had to pay a little more than the trade in value but hopefully it will be a better mattress.

Breakfast menu will be: waffles, sausages, bacon, maple syrup, eggs your way. coffee, tea, juice to drink

Prayers for your wife Sterling and family and Prayers for everyone else as well.

Blessings all around!

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85192: EXACTILLIOSO, Asa!! That HAS to be it. Helen gave Millie lessons. I was watching the ep yesterday, too, and the one when Bee has her own cooking show. I kept thinkin, 'C'mon now, you know there were some old ladies in Mayberry that would have cooked for Opie and Andy. Please!...even Helen might have cooked them some TV Dinners.'

As far as preachin' yesteday, Asa, I was doing nursery duty AGAIN. We have a problem because the women who live their children in the nursery on sundays never volunteer to help out in the nursery. When my children were little, I always served my time and when everyone pitches in, you only need to be in there about once every three months...no big deal, but as it is, I am in there often and some are in there almost every sunday. I think the preacher should announce on sunday that nursery is closed due to lack of staffing and mom's will be required to care for their children during the worship service. That would get some action! haha It's too bad that there seems to be an epidemic of parents who want to put the responsibility for their children on someone else, whether it is school, or church, or the government! I was talking to a school teacher friend of mine who told me she was in walmart yesterday and overheard a mother talking to her child in the school supply isle. She said to the child, "Why doesn't the teacher just buy the school supplies herself?!". Now, doesn't that take the cake? That mom couldn't even be bothered to provide her own child's school supplies and for those who find it a financial strain, we have organizations around here giving out tons of school supplies free to kids, no questions asked.

OK..I'm off my soapbox now.

Lots go do...they started tearing out my laundry room on saturday and won't be back to work on it until thursday so I have alot of laundry backing up, and boxes in my living from where I had to empty out the laundry room cabinets. I am trying to get everything organized and ready to start school with the kids next week and I am already behind. Be back on my coffee break.

Ro....wow,sure glad Toye Starr is doing good now.

Sterling.....continued prayers for your wife.

Bo.....I think that's the problem young kids today....parents don't want to raise them but yet when something happens and they go wild, the first thing they say..."I just don't know why they did that...I did everything that I could do"...yea right. Sad but true.

Well better get caught up on somethings around here.

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85197: Boo, That's My theme song! GREAT SONG! Funny story about the song. My daughter was going thru some rough times after breaking up with her long time boy friend. I had bought her a book by LeeAnn Wolmack that had a CD of her hit song "Just Dance" in it.
The song really touched my daughter and spoke to her heart. When she was in High School she was a majorette and they did alot of dance moves and became a good dancer. So when she hears that song it keeps her grounded, so much so she got a tattoo with "Dance" on it. (That's another story,)when she knew I was unhappy with her getting a tattoo, she said: It reminds me of your advice to "Just Dance"! what could I say on that one.....Sooo when I was going thru rough times at work ALOT of changes ect. ect. she Paid it Forward and gave me a copy of "Mayberry" and reminded me of MY passion. Guess sometimes we do get thru to our kids. So maybe there IS hope..

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85203: Howdy, porch. Heading for work, last shift until Sunday night. Got a lot going in on between, though. Carpal tunnel release surgery on my left hand on Wednesday morning, abdominal CT scan on Friday morning, keeping grandkids Friday and Saturday. Not going to be much free time.

Big Maude, you are going to looove that Tempur-pedic mattress. I've had one for about 7-8 years now, it looks just like it did when I bought it, no sags, no bumps, and I can't imagine ever having any other kind. They're pricey, but they're worth it.

Just an observation on the school supply thing - I have asked that same question - why don't the teachers just buy them? Surely no one is suggesting they should pay for them, but it would really help if the school would round up the stuff they want and have it ready for the kids to buy at school. The problem the parents face is that this teacher wants this list, that teacher wants another list, the stores run out of the particular brand they want and they won't accept substitutes, and in one of my grandson's class, the teacher changed her mind about what she wanted at the last minute, after the stuff had already been bought! My SS class tries to fill about 50 backpacks every year with the required supplies and give them to needy kids, but finding a dependable list is a real challenge.

Well, gotta run. Tonight should be a fair night, I just checked the staff list, and we've got a pretty good group tonight. Should go okay. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

Around here we have to watch out for the winter storms comming off Lake Erie they drop BIG snows until the Lake freezes over (we have snow belts).
TOM can attest to it too, he was from Cleveland.

I will watch Channel 8 weather in Cleveland they have Dick Goddard, who's been doing the weather for almost 50 years, If TOM is looking.. Dick will sick a "wooley bear" on him! I'm closer to the coast than Rev.I'm about 50 miles inland, but as we learned with Hugo ( a CAT 4 )back in '89, you can still get slammed HARD even if you're well inland.Just depends on how intense the storm is & the track.Praying nobody gets it bad with this storm.

August 22, 2011 - Msg 85208: Been thinking about you all there near the East coast. Prayers for your safety and don't be brave; if that think is coming in there, get yourself out. Having been through a few of them, I used to think I could just stick around when they came but the kid of hurricanes we have seen in recent years put a scare in me. I won't ever stay for another one.

I had thought about that, Ro (concerning the school supplies) but it might be a big job for the teachers, especially when classes are bigger than ever due to budget cuts. The average class here in Texas has grown by at least 10 additional students, after staff has been layed off.

Nice story about your daughter, G-F. :)

August 23, 2011 - Msg 85217: Hey Y'all! Rev, Yep, I heard the same weather report regarding Myrtle Beach. Almost all of the computer models show the storm not making a direct hit on SC. I sure hope that holds! Looks like the Outer Banks & VA might get hit hard. Praying everybody makes it through okay. They are putting out mandatory evacuations on parts of the Outer Banks now.

Watch to see where The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore sets up camp! He'd better not show up anywhere around these parts-I may just take a stick to him!! LOL

Glad Toye is doing ok,Ro!

And Patrick is in college-wow! All my best to him,Maudie.

Wanted to tell y'all that Miss Laci went on a walking spree this weekend, all alone, without holding my hand! She walked all the way across my kitchen, through the living room & to the front door -all by herself!! She was so proud of herself! I was proud of her too-she's come a long way & I know y'all have prayed hard for her over the years. Hard to believe she'll soon turn 8! August 23, 2011 - Msg 85222: Good afternoon, porch! Hey, #85214 - Texas girls ARE tough. We're just not stupid. "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun!" Hahaha!

I was talking to my friend Sharon from the cruise agency that books the Mayberry Cruise. She asked me to let you all know that there are still a few cabins available on the cruise, which is Nov. 12-17, leaving from Tampa. Even though the original deadline for payment was July 17, she said anyone who wishes to go can contact her and arrange payment by this Friday, 8/26, and still get a room. This is a real bargain, friends. A full 5-day Royal Caribbean cruise, for under $700. If anyone is interested, (Spot???), call Sharon at 1-800-832-7993, and she'll fix you right up. This thing is fun, folks, and you get to meet our very own Floyd! He's a great guy!

Well, tomorrow is my carpal tunnel release surgery. Should be a breeze - the other one was, about six years ago. I'm tired of the dull ache in my hand that sometimes involves my arm as well, and the numbness in my fingers that makes it hard at times to do the fine motor things my job requires (try starting an IV with numb fingers!) So, I'll let the baby-faced wizard who fixed the other side fix this one too, and all will be well. I literally cannot even find the scar on my right hand. He does very meticulous work.

Well, guess I'll go play with my goofy little companion. She's such a little treasure - left alone all night, presumably slept most of the time, but content to lie quietly while I slept today, without disturbing me. Still, once I opened my eyes, she was bouncing everywhere - "Mommy's up, Mommy's up!" - now how could anyone ask for anything more? To awaken with laughter every day is a real gift. I had to give up my deeply beloved and one-of-a-kind Sugarplum, but now I have this little clown who has made it her mission in life to make me laugh. Thank you, Lord!

I've got the big rotors running in the back yard, and I wish you could see the birds! The poor things have been walking around out there with wings held out, panting through wide-open beaks, and they looked so hot! The grass was withering too, so I turned the rotors on. The grass has already perked up, and the birds are gathered in droves, just walking around in the wet grass, letting the spray pass over them without so much as flinching. The little hummingbird is enjoying it too. He hovers in the fine spray that drifts from the top of the rotor plume, darts over for a quick sip from the feeder, and back to his personal water park. So cute!

Well, this time I'm really gone. Blessings, friends! --Romeena
