April 15, 2011 - Msg 83534: Mornin' Y'all- I like the story,Boo! A new face and possible love interest for Gomer. Yeah, I snuck Arnold in there, JM! Glad you caught that!

My memory is pretty good and I am sure that Mary Wiggins' husband's name is Pat. Ro, can back me up on that since she ought to know who she bought artwork from. I remember Ro mentioning Pat.BTW, I think they were from Michigan,so sure hope it doesn't turn out to be Mary's husband who passed away.
Well, hope y'all have a wonderful day. Who's gonna pick up with the story??

April 15, 2011 - Msg 83536: A big welcome to Adam! Keep your name if you wish, or you can think up some TAGS-related handle to use, or any other "nom de plume" you may choose. As you can see, some of our names relate to Mayberry, others are of mysterious origin, but they all work.

John Masters, I guess I did miss your question. To answer it - yes, I have a fountain. My pond is about a thousand gallons, is roughly ten feet in length, seven feet at the narrow end and eight or nine at the wider end, with a little "waist" in the middle that's spanned by a solid rock slab that forms a bridge. At one end there's a big boulder, which we drilled out to receive a water line, and water bubbles up from a depression in the top of the rock and flows back into the pond, courtesy of a small pump. It's not nearly as spectacular as it sounds, but it's pretty. In the wider end, a bronze fish spits water back into the pond, and a little umbrella fountain makes a pretty accessory, as well as aiding in aeration. All in all, it's nice. Not spectacular, but pretty, and sounds good, with the splashing sounds the water makes.

I'm very relieved to know that the artist who passed away was not Mary Wiggins' husband. He does live in Michigan, but his name is Pat. I'm so sorry for the other family, but nevertheless relieved to know it was not our Mary who lost her husband. Pat is a tremendously talented wildlife painter, working from photographs he takes himself, on long expeditions into the wilderness. I'll see if I can get some clear photos of the three paintings I have, and will put them in the album. I'm calling them paintings, but of course they're not the original oils. I couldn't afford them. Mine are "giclee" prints - Google it if you wish, the process is too lengthy to describe here - and I believe Pat then enhances the prints with original touches. They are beautiful, that's all I care about. They're numbered, limited editions, and I'm very proud of them. I'd love to have one of his original oils, but since I can't afford one, this is quite acceptable.

Well, I'd better get moving. I've still got to bathe Toye Starr, shower myself, load the car, clean the pond pump filter one last time, and pay a few bills before I leave. I got the car serviced yesterday, so it's ready to go. It should be a beautiful drive, lovely sunny day, and there should still be some bluebonnets to enjoy on the way down. Oh - yes, Boo, I"m just going to spend the weekend with my daughters and grandkids. Should be fun!

Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

Its already 10pm here on my porch and this is the first time I have checked in today. Guess alot of folks had things to do today. I was hoping for a lazy day but ended up being busier than I wanted to be and now the day is nearly done already.

Nothing much to report here...beautiful weather. Bruce bar-b-qued some chicken for supper and it was perfect.

I just had my evening shower so now I think I will curl up in bed with a good book until "lights out". May all of my porch family have a lovely, peaceful Saturday night. :)

Watched the TVLand TAGS marathon, got the very needed mowing done, slight bit of weeding done, had a great breakfast casserole that the wife made for dinner and topped it off with "Toy Story 3." All in all, a pretty good day.

Boo - Nice follow through! LOL!

Have a great night, all. Peace be with you and yours!

April 17, 2011 - Msg 83553: Mornin'. Sounds like you had a nice day yesterday, JM. Been mostly you and me on the porch this weekend, besides a short visit from Maude. I hope Romeena is having a great time in Fredricksburg with her family. That area of Texas is very nice this time of year and there should be some wildflowers to see.

Having my cup of coffee and trying to get my eyes open enough to get ready for preachin' this morning. I think this afternoon I will take a nap and just enjoy being with the family.

I watched a little of the TAGS marathon but missed most of it. Does anyone remember when they used to do a 24 hour TAGS marathon on the day of the superbowl? I used to enjoy that but they don't do it anymore.

I can't believe Easter is next weekend. Not even sure what we will be doing besides going to church. Better start thinking about it. We usually have the family over here for holidays but not sure what will happen this weekend. My mother is getting more and more nervous about getting out of the house and it is an anxiety-filled experience just to get her to come spend a couple of hours at my house. She stays in her wheelchair but still has this phobia about falling or someone letting her fall getting in and out of the car. Dad can still drive and came by yesterday for a little visit. He never stays long but I enjoy his visits. We usually just sit and have coffee and he lets me make him a sandwich. Poor old dad is getting so skinny and just doesn't want to bother to eat most of the time. I had to talk to him about his cremation plans yesterday and have him sign the paperwork. It feels so strange to be talking about it but oddly, not uncomfortable. It is very important to him to have everything taken care of and I guess i am the one most comfortable talking to him about it. If he goes before me, I sure will hate to lose him, though.

Well, better start getting it in gear. I'll be back to sit later in the day.

April 17, 2011 - Msg 83555: I remember those marathons, Boo. It wasn't on TV Land though, I believe it was some station out of Chicago, WGM or something. Yes, I watched them every year, and recorded many of them on my VCR. That was before we had a DVD player, and now I'm stuck with all those VCR tapes, that I never watch. They were the episodes that didn't have the epilogues, and had tons of commercials. But still, I really enjoyed those marathons. I even wrote a letter to the station one year, and thanked them for doing that, and suggested episodes for the next year. I got a personlized letter back in the mail, thanking me for my interest. I had that letter posted on my bulletin board for quite a few years, until I finally tossed it. I'm pretty sure anyone that came over to the house and saw that letter probably thought I was some kind of nut...
Yesterday was Mr. Hazels and my 34th wedding anniversary. We didn't even exchange cards or get each other a gift! Money is a little tight right now, so we agreed not to do anything. But next year, by golly, we'll be more prepared. I told him, on the 35th, aren't I suppose to get a diamond or something? hehe

Speaking of going, gotta get. My Daughters Birthday today so we are having a party for her at the other Daughters house.

Oh, and prayers for your Daughter Ky girl. Let us know what the Doctors find out.

April 17, 2011 - Msg 83558: You're absolutely right, Hazel, it was WGN in chicago, now that I think of it. We don't even get that station anymore. Happy Anniversary to you and the Mr. 34 years is something to be proud of. I completely understand about the no-gifts thing. I don't think Bruce and I got each other anything on our last anniversary. We just went out to eat or something....who remembers? (told you i wasn't really romantic, Asa)

You cookin' the steaks, REV? Make mine fairly well done...I don't like bloody anything. I'll bring a pie.

Happy Birthday to Asa's daughter. :)

Been a nice, slow afternoon. Had leftover b-b-q chicken, then sunk into the couch and stayed there. Bruce took the kids to a movie so I am enjoying the peace and quiet. All I did was go feed the dogs and goats...those danged goats are getting dangerous. When they see me coming with the feed bucket, they start fighting each other and I am often caught in the middle. I am going to have to come up with a better way. Thelma Lou (the donkey) has been getting aggravated at them, too, and I often see her with her head down, ears back charging at them. The dogs have been fighting, too...spring fever or something?

Think I will get me a cup of coffee and finish a book I have been reading. Love to All on this lovely Sunday.

Boo - Be grateful you have things under control with your parent's plans. I told you about my mother's plans, BUT....my father has told me absolutely nothing and doesnt want to talk about it. He is 81 and I think he is fearing his mortality. If, God forbid, I went and found him deceased, I wouldnt know thing one to do! It opened with Liza Minelli singing "New York" and she looked great...lots of cosmetic surgery going on there. You could just tell that everyone was there was having a great time.

Can't believe its already Monday morning...and it feels like it, too. I had a heck of a time falling asleep last night and it was probably 1am or so and I tossed and turned alot. John Masters, sounds like your breakthrough could be big. Real big. I hope it is.

Thanks for the birthday shout out for my Daughter. She is my baby, and is the best little mommy I've ever seen. She is pregnant with her 4th child and is really having a hard time with it. ky girl, please keep us updated on your daughter's situation. I know you must be worried, but quite often, things like this turn out to be nothing at all. We'll pray that such is the case.

possum, prayers for little Laci. I declare, that child has had more than her share of troubles, and you deserve the "grandma of the year" award for sure. You know, it's possible that the antibiotic is causing her tummy troubles - many of them will do that. Good suggestions offered about how to get it down her!

Asa, your daughter obviously loves children. It takes courage to continue having them, knowing that the pregnancy is going to be so miserable. I guess I could have had a dozen, because I never knew a sick moment with any of mine. Felt like I could whip my weight in wildcats every time.

John Masters, thanks for the link. I'm impressed! I think it's wonderful when someone has such a deep fascination with a subject, and can enjoy putting in so many hours on it. Good for you! About your dad and his reluctance to talk about his final plans - may I submit that if he refuses to tell you what he wants, then that releases you from responsibility and when the time comes you are free to do whatever you think is best. Tell him once, that you want to honor whatever his wishes may be, but you must know what they are before you can do that. Tell him if he doesn't speak up, then you will make the decisions yourself when the time comes. Then drop it.

Hazel, I've always wondered. Is Mr. Hazel's first name Beauregard? Did you meet him over at Mr. Frisbee's place? Happy Anniversary to you both!

Eloise is doing fairly well. She's in rehab now, but has developed a small clot in her leg, so mobility may be restricted for a little while until that resolves. She's a bit down, but she's like a rubber ball, she'll bounce back up. Pray for her, please.

I had a wonderful time in Fredericksburg. Very relaxed, slow paced, lots of time with grandkids, good food and great times of sharing. Toye Starr marched in and informed the golden retriever and the lab/retriever mix that she was in charge, and they both said "Yes, ma'am" and that was the end of that. Dear old Dallas, the lab mix, is such a sweetheart. She sits around with a stuffed toy held very gently in her mouth. Always! It's her baby, and she takes very good care of it. She was fascinated with Starr, didn't bother her, but watched over her. I think that dog would lay down her life to protect something small and helpless. She's just a treasure.

Had beautiful weather, nice drive both ways with remarkably little traffic, and with REV's CDs in the player, the time passed pleasantly. There were even some wildflowers remaining! So pretty! Had a great time, got home yesterday afternoon, grabbed a nap and then went to work last night. Still sort of "catching up" right now.

It's always good to get home. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83593: Ro, that lab you mentioned sounds so sweet...let me tell you about what my dogs did yesterday (which was NOT so sweet). They dug up the jasmine I planted near the porch. They just dug it right up, roots and all, slung it around or something because all the dirt was off the roots, then left it lying near where they dug it up! Now why on earth..?! Sean replanted it for me and hopefully it won't die. We'll see. Does anyone know of anything i can put on the dirt in the flowerbeds to keep the dogs out of it? I tried cayenne pepper but I can't afford to be putting on every-other day and not even sure if it works.

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83594: Good morning porchters.

Well Boo, It sounds like you have a situation on your hands with them puppys. They sound active and full of life. They sound like they have a bit of Ernest T. Bass in them. I bet you if they could throw, every window in your house would be busted. lol. Maybe they just want a uniform, or an edjukashin, or sumthin like that. Good luck.

Glad you're back Ro, and had a good time. Did all your fish survive while you were gone?

Well folks, sadly to say the flooding we have been worrying about here has commenced. We had a bit of rain and snow here Monday and our already swollen rivers couldn't handle it and have gone over the banks in several locations causing a lot of problems for a lot of folks. My son in law is one of those. He and his brothers own a meat packing plant that is located not far from the Weber river. He arrived at the plant yesterday to find it surrounded by about 2 feet of water. Fortuanatly the plant itself sits a bit higher so nothing inside the plant was damaged. He had about 200 pigs he had to get onto higher ground though. Seems strange. He had to get them saved from flooding in the morning so he could butcher them in the afternoon. Anyway, he was able to keep their operation going. Today the river has lowered some and they are drying out, but more rain and snow is expected this weekend and into next week. And the main snow melt has not even started yet. So the next month or so here could get ugly. Sure could use your prayers friends. Thanks.

Asa

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83595: Wow, what a mess Asa...prayers for that situation!

Really funny about the dogs, and yes, I wouldn't have a window left if those danged dogs could throw rocks!

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83596: I just had the funniest mental image of those dogs in uniform.

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83598: Good Morning, fellow Porchsters! I found a moment to drop in and set a spell while enjoying a fine morning. I also want to say to everyone that I appreciate the kind words and compliments on the advertisement for my Quantrill project. The people at that site seem really amped to give me support! And I am feeling it from here too!

Hey to auh2o - Yeah, check that family background! Sometimes, surprises await you. I just recently found out that I DO have a Quantrill man way down my lineage! I was in SHOCK when I found out! I pass along my sympathy to you as well!

Asa - Havent broke through yet. I cant seem to link my soldier to Liver eating Johnson just yet. But am working feverishly to get it done! Prayers all around for the victims and those affected by the flooding!

Ro - Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I guess I need to force the issue. But death isnt an easy thing to force! Yeesh! And by the way....welcome back from me too.

Maude - I deeclare I miss every one of those delicious lunches you whip up! At some point, I will get around for them again and I just might be taking seconds and thirds!

REV - Seems I found my way back for a bit. Might stay as usual, but I never know where my research will take me. And....for how long. If everyone knew my plans for the project in the long run, you'd probably all keel over. I'd spill them, but I just am so skiddish since I have had so much research stolen from me. My last experience has kinda scarred me. The person who set up my demise at the cemetery I volunteered at has done a book on the place and it has gotten all kinds of pats on the back for him. Thing is a bit of it is MY work. But....nothing I can do about it because it was all research done in a joint effort and the board was slick in maneuvering things. So...I let it go and have to move on.

Possum - My hopes to you that everything will start to brighten up and get better. Then you need to just have a seat and sip some tea for awhile! LOL!

Hey to Boo, MDC, Mayberry Deputy! Hope I havent left anyone out. I also wanted to let you all know that I am releasing the blog/website for my project on May 19th of this year. It isnt the slickest of websites, but I am pretty pleased for what I have to work with. I will remind you as it gets closer. There will be a Quantrill quiz with multiple choice answers and I hope you will all participate.

Have a great day, folks! May you have a blessed and stress free day! Try to be back later!

Watched Jesus of Nazareth last night. Still stirs me to my soul everytime, especially when Ernest Borgnine says "Surely this was the Son of God."
I also heard that he witnessed a miracle during the filming of it.

JM, I would love to take the Quantrill quiz. I actually did some "brushing up" on the subject the other day.

MDC, I adore the Jesus of Nazareth movie and have been searching the house for my DVDs and can't find them...poo!

Would like to chat more but have to go get Erin from school. I will be back later to talk about the weekend. I am wondering what all of you have planned for Easter?

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83605: For those who dont know, the NFL 2011 scheduale was released yesterday and IF we have a 2011 season..LOOK OUT! There are a HUGE slate of games both nationally televised and otherwise. Highlights....

The season's first game is the Packers hosting the Saints, the Colts go back to the Patriots, the Chiefs have THREE prime time games, the Colts go to the Saints in a rematch of the Super Bowl two years ago, the Jets host the Cowboys and the Giants are in Washington on the very first week (adding that things will be quite emotional considering the opening weekend is the 9/11 10 year anniversary)

Go to NFL.com and check out the primetime schedules and all other matchups! This COULD be one of the best seasons in a long, long time!

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83607: I'm far away from the fires too, Tom. Texas is a biiiiiig place! I did drive some smoke on Friday, on the way to Fredericksburg, but it wasn't heavy. Just like a very thick haze, but highway visibility was still safe. Sure did smell smoky, though - I was glad for the function in my car that lets me switch to "recirculate" and prevents outside air from entering the car.

Well, time for a quick nap, then have to work tonight. Yuck. Blessings -- Romeena

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83608: That's "I did drive THROUGH some smoke". --Romeena

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83609: Thanks for the clarrification, Ro....I was wondering how you drove smoke. ;)

Well, I'm back. Should be doing more chores but that can wait a minute. I have a big weekend ahead. A good friend is coming from out of town on Friday night and I am really looking forward to that and on Easter, we are having supper here with quite a few folks. My family will be here and so will my nephew's wife's family from Austin (Emily's family). We are planning a big egg hunt for all the kids, then a cook-out. Should be fun but chaotic. This is a might good place to hide eggs, though.

Well, back to work...

Howdy porch family

Ro...get you some rest and have a good night at work.

Boo....I'm sure you'll have a great time with your friend this weekend. Those "get to togethers" sure are special.

JM....WOW...sounds like the NFL is going to start out with a bang. But I'll be honest, I'm kinda out done with all this mega money disputes. The greed gets old after a while.

Been working on my new tour all day getting everything (songs, sound and program) in line and in order. A lot of folks don't realize how much work and time goes into that. Getting things just right. I kick off the new tour with a new cd every Memorial Day in Pigeon Forge, TN. Pretty much do the same tour till the next Memorial Day. Fun stuff:)

You all have a good night.

April 20, 2011 - Msg 83612: HAHAHA...should have known that would get your attention, Possum! Possum Kingdom is up in north texas..they have a lake and a state park there. I have never actually been there but I'll bet Ro has. I just noticed that at least 20 homes there have been burned. Surely hope my cousin's home is ok.

Hope you can get some rest soon, REV.

Just finally finished cleaning up the kitchen from dinner and it is almost 10pm. I think I will be happy when summer vacation arrives and maybe I can sleep in a little now and then. We lead a pretty busy life around here and it just doesn't seem like there is any "down time" most days. I usually come in here to say "hey" on my breaks.

April 21, 2011 - Msg 83614: Well, that makes sense, MDC but i don't have his phone number. I could call my uncle and find out but I know that if anything was happening, uncle would call me and ask for prayer.

Speaking of prayer, I got a message from a childhood friend who is a pastor...I think I may have mentioned him before, and he is in a dark place, fighting an battle with depression. He had alot of problems and some mental illness in his family growing up and I think he is still fighting some of those "demons". He won't even talk about his family. I can only assume his parents are still living but he won't talk about them. His only sibling died two years ago. If you feel led, please say a prayer today for him.

Bruce's phone woke me up at 5:30 this morning so I was up for good...groan. Busy day today. Better git!
