Thanks, MDC! We have had very few problems come up while building, so we are satisfied. We did have a problem with the electrician, though. I am afraid the guy kind of "wigged out" on us. The work he did was good but he seems to have some emotional issues. i know his wife passed away fairly recently and I expect he is having a hard time dealing with that. He sort of got into it with the builder the other day because he thought things were not moving along fast enough, but we are on schedule. He ended up saying some really derogatory things to Mike...calling him names, even, so Mike had to let him go. Mike said he would have let it go but the electrician said those things to him in front of his sons and he felt very disrespected. Mike is very patient, he has proven that, so if he thinks the electrician needs to go, that's ok with me. He was really finished, anyways, except for installing any light fixtures, which we can do without him anyways. Hey, guess what is going in today???...can any of you guess....it's something Barney bought his parents for their anniversary....
Better wake up Erin.

Wow! Good news on both of our "problem moms" - Boo and Possum, that's wonderful! It supports what I've always believed, that we Americans are over-medicated to a dangerous degree. Sounds like in both cases, the improvement is related to a reduction in medication.
Boo, I'm glad your builder is handling the cabinet problem so well. He sounds like an honorable man. Too bad that electrician behaved so badly, and he's probably sorry now, but Mike is right - he can't allow him to insult him in front of his sons or anyone else. He has to have the respect of his men, or they'll run right over him.
Drat! Leaves are falling out back in great showers, filling the pond. I need to get the net over it, but can't do it without help, especially as windy as it is today. Also, I can't peg it down until we finish killing out the nutgrass that has invaded the beds around the pond, and since it's about to rain, Joe and Jorge can't treat the nutgrass. I'm at an impasse. Rats! Oh well, this too shall pass.
Last night, our church presented the film "Magdalena" for an audience of women. I highly recommend it - if you get a chance, see it. I bought a copy, and plan to share it around with my co-workers. It tells the story of Jesus, through the eyes of Mary Magdalene, and it's beautifully done. A lot of emphasis is placed on one's personal relationship with Jesus, and it illustrates how He elevated the status of women and showed them respect in a society that did exactly the opposite.
By the way, one scene brought up a question in my mind, one that I've wondered about for years, and I'm sure I'm not alone. What do you think Jesus wrote in the dirt, when the adulterous woman was brought before him by the men who wanted to stone her? They were trying to trip him up and get him to dispute the law, but he didn't. He just said that the one who was without sin should throw the first stone, which of course just withered them up and they left. He also wrote something in the dirt, but the scripture doesn't tell us what it was. I've always thought he might have written a little list of common sins - greed, envy, lust, lying, cheating, whatever - just as a reminder. What do you all think?
Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

Ya just can't have too many septic tanks! ha
RO- good question to ponder. Our pastor talked on that awhile back. His thought was that perhaps he was writing to the men present there that day, like "I make all things new" or somthing along the line of what you say. Because you'll notice that the Pharisees say that they caught her "in the very act" so there must have also been a man present there too,(duh)yet he got off "scott free!" Excuse me, it takes two to tango! So Jesus is basically saying,
"I am here to change your whole way of thinking folks!" (paraphrasing of course!) But whatever he wrote, it sure made the men walk away. But also, many comments leave out the last part of repentance or "change" ! "Go and commit this sin no more." Radical thoughts! even forgiving 70 times 7 !
MDC
October 28, 2009 - Msg 75822:
Oops, ended that rather abruptly. But basically i think he was saying "I am here to fulfill the law thru love, but also, on the peoples' part a "change from their 'normal operating procedure'" is also part of the whole deal.

How are things with your mom and family, Possum? I am having to deal with some of my sis-in-law's drama and have decided to say nothing more, move on and help those I can help. We have discussed this before but it is amazing to me how some relatives feel they have a right to your finances to be pulled out of their financial struggles. Don't you love sentences like this one: "I know you have helped me in the past and for that I am grateful, BUT it hurts me that you would refuse to help your own blood, but will help someone else in need". First of all we have helped her...thousands of dollars worth and in other ways. Secondly, I hate those kinds of manipulative ploys..trying to make me feel responsible for her financial situation. It's as if she thinks she is the only person in my life with needs. Everything is about her. How do you deal with such people? I don't have the energy to deal with this sort of thing. I have too much else to deal with and my immediate family is my priority. I know she must have been referring to my helping Michelle instead of her and that is just hard to believe that she would object to that and try to tell me how to give my own money. Now my stomach is all upset. I have to just shake it off. Every stress seems to hit me right in the stomach.
Better get ready for preaching.

Because we believe those resources are provided by God, we try to involve Him in our decisions when we share. He has led us to share with you in the past, even though we were almost certain it wouldn't be repaid. This time, He is leading us in another direction, has shown us another need, and I'm sure you will understand when we tell you that you need to look elsewhere, perhaps within your own self, for the help you need."
She won't like it, and will likely complain to anyone who will listen, but don't worry about that. What can she say? "I went to my brother to beg for money, but he turned me down." Anyone she might be talking to will be thinking "and why aren't you out working for what you need?"
I think I've shared this before, but here it is again. My dad had two brothers, both alcoholics. One was functional and worked until retirement, barely making ends meet. The other was a total sot, ended up panhandling on the street, literally. The panhandler would approach the other brother and ask for money, but he never had any to give him, having spent all his extra on his own habit. Then he would ask my dad, who would not give him cash, but would feed him and give him a room in our home, so long as he stayed sober. The working brother would call my dad (drunk) and rail at him "You're such a 'big Christian' but you won't even give your brother money when he needs it, you'd let him starve." My dad would just patiently reply that he would not give cash because he'd only buy liquor with it, but he would always buy him food and give him shelter. No matter, he was still bitterly criticized, until the day both brothers died. But my dad would just smile and say, "It's okay, God knows what I'm doing, and He approves." So you hang in there, Boo. God knows what you're doing, and He approves.
Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

Hey Folks
It is sunny here, it's in the 20's but it's still sunny.
Asa-Thanks buddy. Your friendship means a lot (all of ya).
Romeena-That is a fantastic post, thanks. Your Dad was a great guy. For so many people it's seem that it's more important to be thought of as a Christian than actually being a Christian. Those people that would rather simply look like Christians always reminded me of the fancy handkerchief in suit coats, it's just showing not blowing.
MAYBERRY DEPUTY-Prayers for your friends child.

Well put, Auh2o. Christians should be able to "take the heat" to do what they know is right, no matter what others say or how they protest. The easy thing is throw money at a problem and shut everyone up. I am finding out more about the situation with my sister-in-law that is really unbelievable. She needs proffesional help. She actually told my other sis-in-law that she was mad at us because we were helping that "drug head" (referring to Michelle) instead of helping her and that bible said we should help her instead. How does someone develope that sort of cruel and twisted thinking?
Better get Erin to school.

Grrrr! There is a mosquito under my desk, and he has bitten me about five times so far, while I'm sitting here minding my own business! Mosquitoes make big red welts on me, and the bites itch for hours. Guess I'd better pull little Starr out from under there and give the area a spritz with Raid's flying insect spray. I just hate mosquitoes, and hope the little devil chokes on the spray. So there!
Boo, regarding your SIL, you have no worries. You can bet anyone who matters to you has her number, and those who would side with her are not people whose opinion would be important anyway. Sounds like she has bought into the "entitlement" camp. You have it, she wants it, therefore you should share. I remember suggesting to you a long time ago that you wait until she has been quiet for a while, then approach her and ask her for financial help. Family should help family, right? Did you ever try that? Not much you can do about people like that, especially when today's political climate is reinforcing their attitude. Hang in there.
Well, I'm off on a mosquito hunt. He's one little Socialist I can do something about. It's my blood, and I do not have to share!!
Be blessed! --Romeena

Mind your own business, Asa...NN's unmentionables are...well, unmentionable~ hehe
Prayers for the MRI, NN. Please let us know as soon as you know something.
No, Romeena, I have never asked her for financial help because in the twenty years that I have known her, there has never been a time when she wasn't in financial trouble, except the time she stole from the Bingo parlor she was working for. HAHA!...no kidding. She has always had hard feeling towards Bruce and I because we didn't have the financial troubles she had. It doesn't matter that we both worked very hard and made sacrifices. Sacrifice is not in her vocabulary and never has been. Back before Bruce's dad died, his dad ran a barber shop with a large amount of clients. It was in business for about 40 years. Bruce's mom made the mistake of letting my SIL and her husband take it over and in about a year, it was bankrupt. They had been taking money that didn't belong to them. I was just thinking about that last night...about how many times I have helped her out and not one time in 20 years did she ever give me a penny. What's wrong with that picture? Not that she should have given me anything, but the fact remains that I have helped her often and never had a favor returned. Some people are just eternally needy, it seems, and it keeps them from helping anyone else. Also, she only has herself to take care of. Her children are grown, she's divorced and the only burden she has are her own. Her children are healthy and have never had any problems, except for having to try to shoulder their mom's burdens. They all decided to move to Tyler and start over. Her daughter can't take it anymore. What on earth do we do with someone like this? Those of you with similar relatives...??

Boo, the question you ask has an answer that is so glaringly obvious that only a family member with a big, loving, generous heart could miss it. What do you do with someone like this woman? You tell her the well is dry, that she has visited it too often. You tell her to grow up and be responsible for herself. You suggest she get a job. You remind her of the help you have already given her. You remind her of the blessings and opportunities that have been dropped in her lap and suggest she recall what she did with them (i.e., the barber shop.) You tell her she is welcome to come and visit if she can be pleasant and behave like a grownup, but if she is coming to whine or panhandle, she is welcome to stay at home. In other words, tough love. You cut her off, and make sure she understands. You could say it like this - "You have received at least X $s over the years from us, you squandered it, and now there is no more for you. We have children to educate, and a life of our own to support. Do not ask for another cent, because it will not be given. Period." She will whine and rant, and tattle to everyone who will listen, never realizing that she is only painting herself as a loser. If she stomps off and never returns, what have you lost? Mostly a source of aggravation.
She is representative of the vast majority of the entitled ones, the welfare population, who will have hissy fits if their benefits are cut, but never give a thought to the taxpayers who are providing the funds. NOTE: As I've stated before, and will probably state again - when I make such statements regarding welfare recipients, I am NOT referring to the aged, the disabled, and the ill - those who would love to be able to get out and earn a living but through no fault of their own, cannot do it. They are the ones for whom welfare was created, and I am most happy to contribute to that, as I'm sure we all are. After all, it's ordained in the scripture. I also have no problem with SHORT-TERM assistance to the able-bodied, who need a boost. It's the chronic check-taker, for whom welfare is a lifestyle, that bothers me. I'm sorry, no offense intended, but it sounds to me like SIL is cut from that cloth. I guess every family has at least one. I have a cousin who never actually went on welfare, but he flim-flammed a lot of people out of a lot of money over the years, including my dad and worst of all, his own mother. He's still at it, at age 72, I guess. I haven't heard from him in about six years, and I'm glad.
Well, enough of that. Joe is coming in the morning to try to whip this weedy, overgrown yard into shape, so I must get to bed and get some rest. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena
