August 01, 2009 - Msg 74338: Hahaha! I'm glad I'm not the only one that weird thing happen to. No, we didn't go to the RFD TV theater. Besides "Noah", we saw "Shoji", a really great musical variety show. The star is Shoji Tabuchi, a man originally from Japan, now a U.S. citizen. He plays the violin beautifully, but he doesn't dominate the show, he's more like the emcee. About a dozen or so very talented young people make up the cast, the costuming is stunning, and the talents of those kids are just amazing. They sing, dance, twirl ropes, they're a drum corps, they can do it all. At the end, Shoji gives the glory to God.

Then we saw a show called "Six". It's six natural brothers, all singers, and they perform without any musical accompaniment at all. They don't need it, they make their own, vocally! Yep, there's one who does the drums, all vocal. Another can sound exactly like a trumpet, but he does a solo or two, and the drummer is just there all the time, in everything they do. They sing barbershop, do-wop, blues, whatever. Lots of fifties music. Very entertaining show, and again, at the end, they give glory to God, and honor their parents. Delightful.

Well, got to get busy. I have six family members coming from Michigan on Tuesday, and gotta get this house cleaned up and ready. The fridge is a toxic waste dump after I was gone all week - yuck. Dusting, vacuuming, linens to change, lots to do.

Be blessed, dear porch. --Romeena

It is absolutely inconceivable to me that this could be true, but apparently it is. I've checked Truthorfiction.com and they don't have it. Haven't checked Snopes. If it is true, it is surely the most egregious abuse of power that our current government has displayed yet. It's such a sleazy, back-door assault on our privacy and freedom that I guess I'm just not ready to accept that our government could do such a thing. I don't know why I doubt it, I guess I just don't want to believe it. Still, you can bet your sweet bippy that I won't be going to the website they're discussing! 'Nuff said.

Have not used repellant one time and I spend most evenings outdoors till dark out at the homesite. Dang Spot. That's a lot of pipe to try and locate a leak at. Hope you find it easy. Newton Monroe ain't been trying to plant a tree at your place has he? LOL

Romeena, is west nile virus a concern in your area? They go on about here to the point your afraid to go out after dark unless you bathe in DEET. Dang, between WNV, swine flu, skin cancer, hanti virus, a feller is afraid to get out of bed anymore.

Well better get this lesson together. It's kind of a last minute thing, and I don't like that. I need time to prepare and contemplate.

August 02, 2009 - Msg 74348: Asa Newton...thats funny....I think like possum said you parking those big 4x4"s may have busted it...I got to go start looking...back at work at 6....Lunch?...SPOT

August 02, 2009 - Msg 74349: Howdy, porch. Hey, Spot, just look for greener, longer grass. That would likely be the site of the leak, I'll betcha.

Asa, WNV is as big a concern as one chooses to make it around here. I know people who go around looking like beekeepers, lest they meet a mosquito, and others who work and/or play outdoors from dawn to dark, slapping mosquitoes all the time, and I don't know a single person who has come down with WNV. There have been a couple of cases reported in the area. One was a child recently brought up from Mexico, and I forget who the other one was. I also know people who fret about WNV and won't go outside to smoke their cigarette, lest they get bitten by a mosquito. What are the odds? Go figure. I have a bat house on a pole in the yard, and if any bats would ever take up residence, mosquitoes would be a non-concern around here, but I've never gotten any. I'm thinking of buying some guano to put on the ground beneath the house - I've heard that will sometimes attract resident bats. No, I'm not afraid of them. Sometimes I like to see a bat!

I hesitate to use DEET products. I just don't think it's a good idea to spread chemicals on your body - you can bet they're being absorbed. I know, DEET is supposed to be safe, but so was DDT when they first started using it. Trucks going down the street belching great clouds of the stuff, people breathing it, and then in a few years suddenly it's dangerous and illegal. Hmmmm. Instead, I have a young exterminator friend who will use all organic products on request. I've asked him to come tomorrow and spray the entire yard with his super-duper mosquito-getter. It's cedar, orange and peppermint oil, mosquitoes hate it, and after Johnny has been here I don't see a mosquito for about three weeks, unless we have a hard rain.

Right now, I'm watching my tree lizard friend. He's on the tree outside my window, just above the ground, blending perfectly with the tree bark. Now and then he darts over to the flagstone where the birdseed falls, shoots his tongue out and captures what I presume is an ant - some sort of bug, anyway. Then he returns to his place on the tree. Bless him!

Well, gotta run. Much to do. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

ASA: I'm pretty sure this is true. And I'm pretty sure that this is or will be true of most all government websites soon. It actually was proposed during the Bush administration back as far as the patriot Act. The rationale is that if somehow someone logs onto a government site and their computer intentionally or through its use as a robot trojan tries to deliver a malignant virus that could cripple the system, it can be remotely tracked and trounced. The operative limitation to the agreement uis "while logged onto the government site." Sadly, it's a product of things and wars to come. The "testing" incursion of the North Koreans last month highlighted this. Most of their attacks went through unsecured personal and business computers right here in the U.S.--unsuspecting people whos computers were being controlled by outside forces. I often wonder what the Chinese could do.

I'm not necessarily for such measures, but I understand the necessity to do something. If an enemy were to cripple our government computer systems, they'd cripple us.

August 03, 2009 - Msg 74365: I don't even know what kind of software for viruses Bruce put on my computer, sorry I can't help you, MDC.

How hot is it where you are Me-They? It's been just terrible here and no end in site for a couple of months! At least we get the breeze in the evening here....of course, it might smell like sea water.

Been trying to do the chores around here but just don't feel like it today. Stomach trouble again. I have one of them "sensitive" stomachs, just like my mom. Any life stress hits me right in the stomach. I haven't said anything about it to any of you but Bruce and I have been having some struggles at our church and there is a possibility that we might be finding a new church home, depending. It's kind of in our pastor's hands. We have to wait it out for now and pray. My pastor emailed me this morning and told me that the Lord woke him at at 3am to pray for our family. That's a blessing. Anyway, it's a very uncomfortable situation involving another family that is refusing to meet with the pastor or us to try to work things out. I mentioned the woman involved earlier and she has mental issues but is in denial, so I don't think any of us can reach her. Would appreciate your prayers in this situation. It has been going on for months but I have not wanted to share it until now. Our pastor got together with us and them before but while we cooperated, they have not (well, she hasn't) and her husband is very passive and seems to be missing the usual masculine qualities it takes to be head of the family (I'm being kind :-). I really like him, though and we have been friends for 25 years. Sad situation. They are probably the most dysfunctional family I know well and just either are in denial or are running from facing the problems. I know their marriage is in serious trouble.

Better go get something else done.

Boo

August 03, 2009 - Msg 74366: Oh, any advice welcome...I don't want to go into the details of the situation but I am feeling more than a little uncomfortable at church and with her son and mine being in the youth group together, it is making me crazy because you can cut the tension with a knife and talk about getting the cold shoulder. I think I am just the type that hates confrontation, although I find myself getting better at it with age ;-)

Boo

August 03, 2009 - Msg 74367: Oh, one more thing (no big surprise, right?). Something like this really tests the quality of your friendships. For many years I thought that this woman cared about me and my kids, even though, she always puts her children ahead of everyone and everything, but as I look back at our history as friends I realize that she is totally a taker, and not a giver. She is dishonest in many ways, if it is to her benefit or her children's. I am starting to understand that she never really cared about me even though she knew I cared about her and her family and was always there to help. That was kind of eye-opening but once I realized it, I can look back and see many times that it was evident but I just didn't see it. Call me really naive but it is the first time I have ever dealt with someone that pretended to care for their own welfare, but really never did.

Spot, sounds like you might have zeroed in on your water leak-good luck and I'm glad you don't hold it against me for the damage I did trying to hide from MDC. Yeah, the "Cash for Clunkers" thing was mighty funny, even if he WAS referring to me!
Boo,I hope you don't have to leave your church over those folks. Prayers for you.

MDC, Avira AntiVir is a good antivirus program & it's free. Norton is VERY good, but it costs around $30,I think, might be more now. That's my 2 cents. Somebody (Poor Horatio comes to mind) else would be able to give you more info than me.I'm not too "ept" on all that techie stuff.
Well, let me surf the net a bit before we get those afternoon T-storms and have to turn my computer off. Y'all have a good afternoon! Let's have an Italian dinner at Morelli's tonight!

August 03, 2009 - Msg 74369: Good afternoon, porch. I did have to work last night, wanted to come home and wade into the things that must be done before my company arrives tonight, but was just too tired and went straight to bed. I'm up now, and have a yard-long list of stuff to do, but wanted to stop by and say howdy.

Boo, I'm so sorry about the problems you're having at your church. Seems like that happens more than one would think, I guess because the church is made up of people, all fallible, all sinners. It hurts when someone you thought was a friend shows their bad side, but it happens. I hope you and Bruce can hold out a little longer, because when you leave, she'll just turn her venom upon someone else, who might not be as strong as you are. Prayers for you, friend.

MDC, my computer guru friend installed AVG AntiMalware on my computer, and to my knowledge, I've sustained no damage from viral attacks or takeovers. I'm sure there are many good programs out there, but that's what he chose for me.

Well, must get busy. Carpet-cleaner man will be here soon, so vacuuming my bedroom is first on the list. There are many little Starr-spots on the carpet, but Brad will make short work of them. The rooms that folks will occupy are clean, beds are clean, their bathroom is clean, so at least that much is done. OK, off I go. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

Boo- I will be praying about your whole church
situation. I think of Acts 15 where disagreements are brought up, especially in Acts 15:36 where Paul and Barnabas actually go their
separate ways for a while. Sometimes it is that old saying
that works, even used by Sgt. Crowley, you just
have to agree to disagree.
But the Lord is working in the whole thing, as you
mentioned the pastor being awakened, etc.
Prayers for rehab too...the truth in love.
MDC

August 03, 2009 - Msg 74372: I'll be praying, too, BOO. That's such a shame. I like ROMEENA's suggestion to hang in there a bit longer if you can. Of course, we don't know all the particulars. Sounds like you've done the right things, though, and that's something--no matter what happens.

The Bible prescribes what to do when there is strife in the church. There's a bigger question at stake, and that's a cancer in your church. Whether you go or stay, I hope that your minister addresses it. Seems he will. Prayers especially for him, you all, and that poor woman. She sounds like a piece of work all right. I hope she sees the light, so to speak.

It's terrible when someone treats you that way, betraying your trust and love. When Jesus knew Judas had betrayed him, remember what the Lord did? He washed his feet. I pray that I can exhibit that same love and humility in the face of evil. And you have more than once been the messenger He sends to remind me to keep praying and trying. God bless.

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74374: Thanks for the words of encouragement and prayers. I am not in any hurry to leave and was more prone to do so a month ago. Our pastor told us that he was going to contact them and tell them it was mandatory that they meet with him and us. I don't know what he will do if they don't, but chances are, they won't show. Bruce was very nice to her on Sunday and asked her if we could meet and she just smirked at him and said, "I'll think about it". It's strange because we have not done a thing to her to make her act this way. I wish I knew what she was thinking but maybe I will soon.

Yes Me-They, I agree. I think my friend Keith put it best when he said (in his rather crude but good 'ol Texas boy way), "I told Mark (the pastor) that he better do something because this thing is like a festering sore that if left alone, it will eventually erupt and get all over everybody"...haha...gross, but true.

Thank you Romeena, for your words of wisdom and for your prayers. You have blessed me in countless ways.

Thank you for your encouraging words, M-T. You are such a blessing and I love you in the Lord.

Thank you also MDC for your kind and encouraging words and for your many prayers...there is just no way you could know what it means to me.

Thanks to you as well, KYGirl and Possum. I so appreciate your prayes.

Better head to bed..I am up much to late. I was watching a show on the history channel called, "S#x in the Ancient World". Whoa...we think things are bad now but the things that went on in Rome and Pompeii...Shazaam. I can't even say the names Caligula and Nero without wanting to wash my mouth out with soap.

Goodnight!

Boo

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74375: Good very late evening, porch. It's 2:34 a.m., so maybe I should say good morning. The house is clean enough. I no longer stress over having everything perfect when company arrives. This is me, this is how I live, take it or leave it. So far, no one has left it. The beds are clean, bathrooms and kitchen are clean. Floors have been vacuumed or swept, furniture dusted. Just don't look under the beds or in the closets, because that's where I stuffed all the clutter!

Seriously, I need to have an "evaluate and toss" day sometime soon. Lots of stuff in this house that's not earning its keep, that someone else could use. I'll have to work on that.

I left the house at just before midnight and went to the grocery store, bought a carload of groceries, got home at 1:20, and spent the next hour putting it all away. Fridge was cleaned out in the process, so I'm ready now to feed a crowd. I love it. Sure do wish Dale was here, he always enjoyed things like this, and it's his brother that's coming, with his family. I'm sure we'll feel his presence. I will, I know, because Walt is a lot like Dale.

Boo, just continue to take the high road, as I know you always do. Don't let that woman goad you into a heated confrontation. Discussion, fine - so long as she honors the rules of engagement. She will likely try to push all your buttons, but don't fall for it. Stay calm and cool, use "I understand", or "I can see how you could feel that way" a lot, and be quick to apologize, even if you don't feel you owe it. It will disarm her completely, and of course, there's always the possibility that you have offended her in some way without intending to or realizing that you did. If you really did not do anything, and I believe that to be the case, still an apology won't hurt you and if she's trumping the whole thing up, your apology will leave her looking like two cents waiting for change. You can't lose. "Blessed are the peacemakers."

I'm going to bed. Have to get up at 6:30, because the first wave of company is on the road, just spoke to them and they're on the turnpike in Oklahoma, so will be here around 7:15. I would prefer to at least be conscious and vertical when they get here.

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74376: Well, I'm up, dressed, ready to meet my company and the world. Just spoke with them, they're a little late, ETA now is 7:45. They're using a navigator that gives them the exact ETA, but of course when you stop for gas or whatever, it has to recalculate - thus the changing times.

Anyway, good morning everyone! Up and at 'em - come join us for breakfast. Depending upon how hungry they are when they get here, we'll be having cold cereal or hot pancakes. Personally, I'm rooting for cereal, but we'll see.

I may be a little scarce for the rest of the week, or maybe not. It depends on what's going on around here. I'm not the planner, I'm just along for the ride. Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74377: Dang Ro, I'm getting tired just reading your posts. Don't overdo it now. You got anyone outside on the lookout for a maroon car? lol

Sounds like you have recieved lots of good advice Boo. You sure can't control her behavior, but you can yours. And you have a lot of good examples in how to do that in that new owners manual you got for your birthday. I suggest you keep her in prayer, her and her woosey husband. (You implied it, I said it lol). Serious though, she sounds like she needs some help and is struggling with who knows what. Like Ro said, perhaps there has been something you did or said, that you are not even aware of, that has got her nose out of joint. Some folks will carry a grudge over the smallest of things for a long long time. Hope y'all can get it resolved.

Ky girl, I don't know about you and them ear rings. They is the talk of the town though.

Spot, how did your plumbing repair work out? Having spent the day as a plumber working out in the Georgia sun, have you got any new tan lines? (I'm referring to what plumbers are noted for exposing when the work) Hope not. That could be tough to sit on for a while. Thats why I wear coveralls when I plum in the sun. :)

MDC, Is your State Capital building still for sale? I swear, we are losing our sanity in this country.

Best be off and see if I can find mine.

Funny comment about the maroon car! Enjoy your company,Ro.

Spot must still be looking for that leak. It's not like him to miss breakfast.
Let me get going before this morning slips away on me like yesterday did.

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74379: Well, The University of Phoenix just called me (saw it come up on caller ID)
I think MDC had something to do with it. Trying to lure me out there to Arizona so he can cash me in as a clunker! Only kidding,MDC. I know it's an online university, but I still don't trust ya! Ha!

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74380: Good Morning porch, hope everyone is okay. Been busy at work and home but thought I'd better do a check point chickie. I am still pretty tired from all that dancing at the party over at SPOT's. Took me 2 days to get my feet to stop hurting, had to soak them for a long time.

Since SPOT is not around, guess breakfast is up to me: Pancakes with maple syrup, eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, zucchini bread with cream cheese, coffee, tea, orange juice, cranberry juice. get up, get over here and lets eat.

Prayers and blessings to all.

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74382: Some really great advice here on the porch this morning, thanks! Very encouraging (and needed). I have been wondering if she might be offended by something I don't know about so I am going in with an open mind and not a defensive spirit. I want resolution, not more hard feelings and more than anything I want to "take the high road" as Ro said. I know I can't without God's help. Again, thank you for your prayers.

Well, I think I will go try to get something done. I slept in this morning so I feel like I can conquer the world! (well, not really, but I can get the laundry done, hopefully...)

ASA- Like other states, we have budget problems,
so it was the bright idea of one of our learned legislators to sell some AZ government buildings,
and then lease them back! But thank God it was only an idea! The whole world is
going crazy, men are circling the earth, international television has been developed...
and we even had an earthquake in AZ yesterday! Really! Well, it was actually in northern Mexico,
but our buildings here shook! Weird stuff.
KY girl and Possum, as for those earings, I don't
think they did a thing for me! haha
Possum, U of P actually DOES have classes here.
It is a ten-building campus, mostly MA night classes; but yes, it is mainly on-line, or as we used to say "in the old days," correspondence courses! ha
RO- have fun. You can always show the "Uncle Ollie" episode! haha And dont let em
play with the siren!
Boo- You're welcome, how was rehab?

August 04, 2009 - Msg 74386: That's funny,MDC! Is she headed to the Clink?! Sad that an old lady would be shoplifting, though. Sad that anybody does.
Hey,you Arizona folks sure are persistent- I received a total of 4 calls from U of P today! I finally picked up the phone, the girl asked for "Marjorie"- I told her that wasn't me, nobody here by that name and to please make note not to phone here again and thanked her. Just think- I could've been the first possum to get a degree from Univ. of Phoenix!

Glad you fixed the water leak,Spot. Now you can go back to "piddling" in the Barn!Hee Hee

What're we all doing for supper? Maybe we can head over to that Chinese place in Mt. Pilot.Anybody want some Egg Foo Young?

OK, sorry, I don't think too highly of the place!
A lot of what they do degree-wise is questionable IMHO.
Have a good evening folks,

August 05, 2009 - Msg 74390: Hi MDC, drug rehab was a blessing yesterday. Just one of those times that you feel like you are getting through to them. Thanks for asking. :-) We have a couple of girls on the CPS hall (those under child protective services), that are always there for bible study and are learning and growing. They are both calm, sweet girls when they are there and most of the time it is just the two of them that join us on that hall (we go to three different halls). We really enjoy the time we spend with them. One is just the sweetest, prettiest little angel of a girl who has a troubled home and was running away. She had never even been in church in her life, except to visit a mormon church. She is FULL of questions and we love it! We also have several on the other halls who are serious about their faith. Again, thank you for your continued prayers on their behalf.

Been a busy day. Had to go into town and pick out windows and it seemed like it was go, go, go all afternoon and evening. I should be in bed but drank some Dr. Pepper late in the evening (big mistake) and am pretty wide awake.

Hmm...what can I talk about? I don't feel like starting any moulages tonight. I guess I can tell you that my rafters are up on the house, and the builder is doing fine after his fall from the roof on Friday. Really, I am having a blast watching this house being built. I never expected to be so interested in the process but it is just fun to watch things come together and learn about what goes into building a house. So far it has been a good experience for us as a family and the builder actually hired Sean to work and hour or two each evening doing the clean-up on the site. He is paying him 8 dollars an hour, which seems like alot to a 14 yr old.

Went to Toys-R-Us to get some birthday presents (Erin turns 8 on Sunday and Emily will be 2 on Saturday). Erin wanted a "Scooby Doo" van, so I got that along with the little characters that go with it...she is not really a Barbie kind of girl. Emily loves motorcycles for some reason so I got her this really cute little Harley Davidson motorcycle that she can sit on and ride. I know, it seems like the girls/women in my family are not exactly typical...we don't really fit the usual stereotype.

Well, I should get to bed. I am starting to get tired. See ya'll in the a.m. with my coffee.

Boo

August 05, 2009 - Msg 74391: Thanks Possum for the Foo young...but can old people eat it also?...Boo sounds like the hose is coming right along...try to get some pics to Romeena..I shot her one of the new camper a few days ago...got some reports to get done here at work but will be back in just a bit...SPOT

August 05, 2009 - Msg 74392: Gosh, I know it, SPOT. I need to get her some pictures. There are two things I really regret not having learned; one is the Spanish language and the other is all things pertaining to the computer. I really can't do much on this thing and when Bruce tries to teach me I just get frustrated. I'm the kind of person that has to do something over and over before I learn it.

Sean woke me up at 6am and was throwing up. I hope it was just something he ate! I would seriously hate to have a stomach bug this week. :-(

Think I will try to get a little more sleep. (big yawn) :-o

$400. Tutition will be due soon. Hopefully his scholarships money will cover much of that.

Lunch menu will be: roast beef sandwhiches, fresh garden tomatoes, corn on the cob, SLAW, potato salad, Chips. tea, kool aid, to drink.
Brownies for dessert. come early and we can visit for a while.

Better get busy.prayers and blessings to all today.

Boo- We have child-labor laws here in AZ. teehee
really, that's cool that sean has a chance to do that.
Just a thought, but besides the handprints, you
all should go by some evening and pound a nail
into the frame. Take a photo to remember later.
"Our nails are right in this area" type memory.
Glad rehab is going good. Is it Monday or tuesday
evenings?

I am not a big shopper so I like to get up and out early and then back home. She on the other hand is 15 and likes to sleep late, guess we will have to compromise.
Since I probably won't be around this week end to help cook, I will have dinner ready at 6pm.

Menu: grilled bbq chicken, fresh green beans, slaw, corn on the cob, new potatoes from the garden, tomatoes, yeast rolls, tea, lemonade to drink. Chocolate layer cake with lots of icing for dessert. EAT!
