possum once more

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71692: Good morning, Spot. Just got up to check the temperature. My DSL service went out last night around ten, so my online weather channel was not available, and I couldn't get to the porch, either. We have a dial-in time and temp service through one of the banks, though, so I used that. When I finally went to bed at 0200, the temperature was 51 degrees! Now, at 0630, it's 45 degrees. If we got the predicted freeze, it sure must have come and gone in a hurry! Ha!

I'm glad it didn't freeze. My special sprinkler settings worked well - on and off as scheduled all night - and the yard will benefit from the watering. I feel sorry for my garden center neighbor and friend, though. He paid his helper overtime, and hired one extra person to help, in order to carry 1200 flats of bedding plants into shelter. He even rented a big U-Haul truck to provide extra space to shelter the flats. He lost some big bucks last night to protect his inventory, and it never even got out of the 40s. And now it all has to be put back outside again today. Argh.

Well, I'm going back to bed. Nervous "flower mom" just got up to check on things. I need a little more sleep. See you later. --Romeena

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71693: Drat. See what happens when I get up early?
There, that should fix it. --Romeena

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71694: Good morning, possum. Thanks for sweeping. I'd stick around and help you dust, but I need to get a couple more winks of sleep - got a big day ahead of me. One of my many blessings is the ability to go back to sleep whenever I'm awakened. Not a problem! --Romeena

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71695: I used to be like that when I worked nights, too, Ro. I think my body craved sleep more or something. I worked nights full-time, five nights a week (back when nurses worked 8 hour shifts) and I did that for about 10 years. I can't tell you how much I now enjoy going to bed each night and getting up in the morning!

Hey, did those pics of Possum ever get put in the album?

Better get the kids up. We are starting some new, stricter rules/schedule around here today. Hopefully it will help me keep my sanity.

So glad your flowers didn't freeze, Ro!

Boo

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71696: Wish I could go right back to sleep Romeena heck, I can't go to sleep when I'm tired most of the time. I normally live off about 4 hours of sleep a night. Have been that way for as long as I can remember. Every now and then, I will lay down and sleep all day (if I can and no one bothers me) but that doesn't happen very often. I'm finding the older I get, the harder it is to sleep. Makes for a grumpy me most days too. Well, I have a Bull Terror brat barking at me for his breakfast, guess I better get right on it.
*Mavis

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71697: Good morning everyone.

BOO: My Mrs. knows exactly what you mean about sleep. Other than her brief year-and-a-half interlude, she's worked three nights a week (12s) for about nine years. It's worked out great with the kids, but not always so great for her. She's learned to sleep when and where she can. She can go from wide-awake to dead asleep if the opportunity presents itself.

ROMEENA: "Where's Sean when I need him?" How about an old, experienced hand? I'm not proficient at a great many things, to be sure, but I am a lean, mean cleaning machine when the need arises. And my weeding is right good, too. Wish I was there to help out. Don't forget to straighten the medicine cabinet and drawers in the bathroom. There are always nosey Parkers who will snoop.

Wish we'd hear from STERLING, AFD, HAZEL, NEW NEIGHBOR and others.

Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's back to work I go...

Me-They

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71698: "I'm a lean, mean cleaning machine..",ha! That's funny M-T. Guess what Sean bought himself with his birthday money? He bought a Shark steam mop and that thing is groovy. My tile floors have never been cleaner. You can actually feel how clean they are when you walk on them. My feet (sorry, know how you feel about feet) squeek when I walk on the tile. So, one of his duties is to mop with it every other day. He loves doing it. We don't have any carpet or rugs in the house, just tile, so it is pretty easy to keep things clean with the steam mop.

Gotta go...back to work like you said M-They.

Oh, Mavis, have you tried the Melatonin we were talking about recently?

Boo

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71699: That steam mop sounds groovy. We have some hard wood, some carpet, and wood laminate that looks like stone tile in our kitchen. The only place we have tile is the bathroom. With the laminate, we use only very warm water. As long as you keep up on it, it works very well. The hard wood upstairs is 150 year old heart pine that is so bowed and shrunk that using a device on it would be terrible. Downstairs, we have covered the ugly modern strip hardwood with large area rugs. We hope to have it refinished this coming fall.

I'm kinda leery about it, though; it was stained last in the 50s and probably has lead stain on it. Being in an old house with kids, I'm pretty paranoid about lead dust. It used to be that 10 parts weas considered safe. Now, studies are showing that even 1 or 2 parts can have a pretty dramatic effect on learning and cognitive abilities. My poor kids, I have them lead tested every other year. With remodeling/painting projects always going on, it seems a prudent, if momentarily painful, precaution.

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71702: I see what you mean, M-T. I was really concerned when they sanded the old floors in mom's house while we were living there. Those floors had not been stained since probably the 40's because they had been covered with carpet forever. The crazy guy my sister's husband hired to do it, didn't even bother to close off the room and dust was everywhere. You know M-T, it is hard having an older home but if it is half as cute on the inside as it is on the outside, it must be really nice.

You haven't said much about the kids lately. What's new with them, M-T?

Well, Emily will be here soon and then i have to go to see my parents and fill out some kind of paperwork they need to get my mom a special wheelchair that she needs. Better get going..

Boo

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71703: What kids?

Hehehe. No, they are doing fine. Veda is as bossy as ever. She's really getting a personality. Chad is over and done with school and ready for summer break (the breakfast question each day is: "How many days of school left, dad?"). Nora is having a alittle trouble with math but overall doing fine with school. She's really blossoming into a smart girl.

Nora's still doing dance, but we may be putting the kibosh on that after this year. She's at the age where you have to start doing multiple classes a week if you really want to "be a dancer." Just two classes (one hour each) costs us about $800 a year now. Some of those families with middle and high school aged girls are carting to three to five classes a week and payinf tens of thousands to do it. Too rich for my blood. She's either going to have to seriously commit or stop. She's good and enjoys it, but I don't think her heart is in it for the long haul.

We are not going to be signing Veda up for dance. Instead, maybe t-ball next year ($35!).

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71713: I really enjoyed the stories about church,I LOL at all of them. The one about the tie reminded me of a few things I've done in the past two or three years. I may have told you , but, just in case I haven't I will tell it again. I bought a skirt to wear to church , it was black with a very small white print of squiggly lines on it. I wore it that Sunday morning and after sunday supper I went outside on the porch because the sun was out and it was so pretty.I then could get a good look at the pattern on my skirt. I found out that the pattern was not squiggly lines as I had thought, the squiggly lines were actually party streamers and the other part of the pattern was wine glasses bottles of wine and the words "cheers" printed all over it. I know how the guy with the tie feels-ky girl

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71714: Boo Idol is ON!...thanks for supper....SPOT

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71715: Oh, my goodness, ky girl! I'll bet you were shocked when you realized what was on that skirt! Did you keep it?

I remembered something that happened when my youngest son was about five. He and a neighbor boy had been playing some board games that involved dice, and unbeknownst to me, he had brought a pocket full of dice to church with him. He had at least six. About halfway through the sermon, he got wiggly and started digging in his pockets. The next thing I knew, there was the unmistakable sound of dice hitting the hard tile floor (only the aisles are carpeted). Naturally, since the floor slopes upward toward the back of the sanctuary, the dice went dancing down the slope. Of course, everyone turned and looked back as the dice passed beneath them. When they finally stopped, about three rows in front of us, the people on that row couldn't let well enough alone. Oh no, they had to scramble around and pick them all up, then pass them back over the rows to us. When they were handed to David, he chirped a bright little "Thank you", while I tried to become invisible. Our dear pastor didn't know the cause of the commotion at first, but some kind soul enlightened him, naturally. He never let us live it down, teased us about it for years.

Well, the caterer has come and gone, plans look good, and I don't think I'm going to get hit too hard. She liked the yard, said this might just be the most fun wedding she's ever done. Ha! We'll see.

Tom, I'm sorry you're having to deal with the snow, I know you're tired of it and ready for spring. It will come. Thank you for your prayers for good weather for us on Saturday. I just know it's going to be a beautiful day.

Eloise and I shopped till we dropped today, and I found everything I was looking for. Found almost everything at Chico's. They have such lovely things, usually a bit pricey for me, but I hit a sale. God loves me.

Well, guess I'd better go clean a couple of rooms. A little at a time, it will get done. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

April 07, 2009 - Msg 71716: I kept the skirt Romeena, I just wore it around the house.I liked the story about the dice, too funny. At one of our mothers day banquets, we had a speaker that was a preachers wife, but honestly I don't remember her name or where she was from, I just know she was from another state. The one thing I do remember is a story she told about herself, that we all could relate to. She told about a time that she was in a hurry one Sunday morning,so she hurried and got the kids dressed and then herself and hurried over to the church. She said in the middle of sunday school, she realized that she hadn't put any pantyhose on,no big deal she thought. But,after a few minutes, she realized something was wrong. She went to the restroom, and discovered that she had absolutely nothing on under her dress, she had taken off her gown ,literally just slipped on her dress and shoes and came to church. She said before the church service started, she pulled her husband aside, and told him the problem. He looked at her in disbelief and said"Nothing"? She made a quick trip home. Tom, we have snow too,and the cold weather. We will probably have snow on Easter, usually makes for real cold egg hunts on Easter morning.Oh well,it doesn't take away the true meaning of Easter, for that I'm thankful. April 07, 2009 - Msg 71719: Not scared, just busy SPOT. I have to have Bruce show me how to scan the picture and send it, but hopefully this week. I don't know how to do much of anything on the computer except email, surf and blog! Thanks for the idol report, SPOT. I didn't watch it tonight. I decided to turn the TV off for the evening and I went to the field across from the apartment (the field next to the bar...hehe), and Sean, Erin and I tried to play a little baseball. Sean and I stunk. I can hardly catch a ball and had to keep chasing and bending over to pick it up. Erin finally managed to hit one of my awful pitches and ran the bases. I tried to tag her out before home and it required that I run...something I never do. Sean laughed so hard he couldn't breathe. He said I looked like a "giant ballerina monster". When I run it looks like I am in slow motion. Anyway, we had fun and laughed ALOT so it was better than TV.

Been doing some contemplation of the cross during this holy week. I am going to try to leave the TV off most of the time this week and be more mindful of what this season is about. This time of year is special to me because we celebrate what Jesus did, but also because I was born again during this blessed time of year. I was 16 so it will be 30 years this month that I was born into the Kingdom of God. I didn't think I could love Jesus any more than I did at that time, but guess what? I love Him more now and understand more fully what He did for me in His life and in His death on the cross. Sometimes I just long to see Him and I have to remind myself that He is with me and His Spirit is in me..what a blessed though. How amazing it will be someday to walk by His side and see Him face to face.

Goodnight porch family.

April 08, 2009 - Msg 71720: Boo, how beautiful, I don't remember that verse to Amazing Grace.Sounds like a good time with the kids . Those are usually the times you remember most. I know one of my older boys favorite memories of my cooking is the time I tried a new chicken recipe.I never cook with wine,I don't even drink, but this recipe called for 2 cups of wine for the sauce.Well, I baked the chicken, basted it with the sauce and then went to work.My mom was watching the boys they were about 15 and my older daughter was spending the night with a friend.I was working 4-12. When I got home from work,my mother said the chicken didn't taste bad, she ate some and some side dishes. Now my mother eats like a bird. You all know how teenage boys eat. They both got up with hangovers the next morning. Sick as could be with headaches. They said they felt good when they went to be,relaxed and slept good. But, the morning was horrible. My mother said she felt just fine, my sons said it was because she ate one little piece of chicken.Prayers for all, sweet dreams porch-ky girl

I hear ya, Me-T. I didn't even attend my own reunion and it couldn't have been any worse than the one on TV. I won't be watching The Cougar either.

For my contemplation today, I have been listening to a sermon by Ravi Zacharias, given in the LDS tabercacle at Brigham Young University in Utah...interesting. Can you imagine how intimidating it might seem to give the gospel as the mainstream Christian gives it, to the leaders of Brigham Young and the LDS church? I saw the head guy there, forgot his name. The man that speaks for the LDS church. Anyway, so far Ravi is telling it straight. If you are interested, you can catch it on Youtube if you search for "Ravi Zacharias at the LDS Tabernacle".

April 08, 2009 - Msg 71737: I like chick-fil-a better (or as Erin used to call it: "Chick-a-lay").

Yes, Me-T, Ravi knows his stuff but is still a very humble soul, not a know-it-all. I don't listen to him often because I kind of forget that he's out there, but when I do listen, I really enjoy his teaching. I was actually up at 3:30am listening to him last night. I had a very bad dream involving my deceased friend, Karen. It woke me and I couldn't go back to sleep so I looked up Ravi. After listening to him for about an hours, I was ready to sleep (not that he put me to sleep)!

If you all feel led today, please lift up my mom (Carol) in your prayers. She is having a tough time with anxiety and the thought of death frightens her. She asked me to pray for her yesterday because she feels like she is "walking through the valley of the shadow of death". She needs peace about her destination. Thanks!

She wanted some new rugs for her room so Dad and I went to WalMart and got her some, then she requested a chicken sandwich from WHATABURGER, so I went and got that, too. She also requested some jelly beans and I passed that on to my sister. Mom is much like a child and has many requests and because she watches TV most of the time, she sees commercials about certain food and then she wants it. I figure at her age, she might as well enjoy what she eats.

Better see if Erin hung up her school clothes...

Just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and kind emails during my surgery and recovery. I am doing well, and have now started therapy. MAN THAT HURTS!! Didn't realize my shoulder was attached to all the other parts of my body when it hurts. Everytime I move it, everything else hurts. Wonder what causes that? But I am persistant with the exercises and will get full movement back in time... but right now I need to lay down... New Neighbor

April 08, 2009 - Msg 71750: Goodbye Scott! Thanks, SPOT.

Hey Possum (in my best Greg Brady impersonation) you were one groovy-looking chick. I was thinking that you and SPOT would of made a cute couple in the 70's.

Something else, Possum, to me your baby pic looked a little like Lacy. I could see something in there that reminded me of her...maybe the smile?

Hey NN, so sorry you are still suffering! Hope you are back to normal soon.

Better get Erin out of the shower and ready for bed...

Boo

April 08, 2009 - Msg 71751: Just a quick check-in. Don't want none of you all to worry, or "ya'll", though I see some are anyway, sorry.

Just haven't been on the computer much. Well, except at work. Though that is better than some of the filing I have been doing.

Just thought I would mention that Kai had her spring program last night. By the way she was carrying on before-hand about how nervous she was, I thought she might be nervous when she got up there - to give her little recitation on bats - and I wondered if we would even be able to hear her, but she surprised us! I don't want to brag, but she was the most vocal and most expressive of her little class. She said she didn't, but it almost looked like she was enjoying it.

Well, I'd better get to bed. Sorry I didn't stay very long.

Prayers of comfort for your mom, Boo.

Hello porch family.

Well with all this talk I've got to go over to Ro's album and check out the new pics.

Spot....how bout those Braves?

NN....prayers that you mend up real quick. Thanks for updating us.

Sterling.....I know you're proud of Kai and rightfully so!

Well so yall at breakfast in the morning. I'm gonna go check out the pics and then head to bed.
Prayers and love to all the porch family.

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71754: Good evening, or good morning, I guess is more accurate. It's 1:00 a.m. and I'm still up. Just made two ringbearer pillows. It will be a double-ring ceremony, and since there are two little cousins of the bride (my grandsons), who are brothers ages 5 and 8, and it would be hard to choose, the bride elected to have each of them carry one ring. This was a late decision, to even have a ringbearer, so we needed pillows! Eloise and I went out today and bought some other things we needed, and priced pillows. The cheapest I saw, and it looked cheap, was $22, for one. Argh! So, I bought a white satin remnant for about $1.50, some really pretty ribbon with little white rosebud clusters on it, some pearly shank buttons and some burgundy rosettes and baby ribbon. Spent less than $10, and made the pillows myself this evening. I had stuffing on hand. Saved about $35, and my pillows are prettier! Ha!

Sterling, I'd love to have seen Kai's little performance. I'll bet it was precious. Enjoy these days, they pass by so quickly.

Well, I'm pooped, and headed for bed. Oh, Boo, I bought one of those steam mops, but haven't taken it out of the box yet. Will do that tomorrow when I finish cleaning this house. Got my bedroom done this morning. Talk about dusty! I could have planted corn on my dresser. I never used to be such a terrible housekeeper, but I am now. During my good housekeeping days, I didn't do much in the yard, just moved sprinklers and kept the grass alive was about all. Now I'm outside all the time, and the house goes to ruin. Apparently one person just can't do both, and I do what I enjoy.

Be blessed, everyone! --Romeena

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71755: Mornin' y'all! Should I change my name to "groovy chick"? Or maybe "Marcia,Marcia,Marcia"? Y'all have got me laughing! And I'm not even gonna comment on Spot and his dirt roads! Woo Hoo! Ha! Ro,you should've stuck me between you & Rafe so I'd be safe! Just put me next to Spot, would ya?!
Yeah Boo,I notice a resemblance between Laci & myself. When I was going through my old pics for Ro's album,I found one of me when I was about 8 years old and I could see a lot of Laci now that she's getting older. I noticed it too when I looked at pictures of my daughter from when she was a child. I guess they gave us the right baby at the hospital!
I'll have to get some new pics of Laci in to Ro.She has really lost her baby looks-growing up!
Ok,let's all go out to breakfast at Waffle House.Wear your bellbottoms!

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71756: Great to see you back Sterling. We missed you. That's wonderful about Kai's performance.

Romeena, just reading your posts wears me out! You have been very busy. I hope you like the steam mop. Did you buy the Shark brand? One thing about it, it takes a little longer than regular mopping because you have to go a little slower over the floors with the steam. You should see the removable white pad when Sean is finished. I didn't know my floors were dirty, but that pad was practically black! I just threw it in the washing machine and it came out clean, though.

Hey Possum, no bellbottoms here, sorry. I'll meet you at the Waffle House, though. I can wear my tye-die and a pair of shorts, part my hair in the middle and wear white lipstick...how about that?

Boo

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71757: Oh my stars! I had forgotten about the white lipstick! I can't believe women ever actually wore that stuff, but we did. I know, I'm a generation older than most of you, but I was in my 30s during the 70s, so I wasn't exactly ancient. I wore short skirts, and yes, I had the legs for them. They're still pretty decent today. The rest of me is a mess, but I've still got pretty good legs. Ha! I had some white knee-high boots (I refused even then to call them "go-go boots"), and I even had some of that ghastly lipstick. Didn't wear it often though - Dale hated it. He loved the short skirts and the boots, but he hated that lipstick.

I also had some bellbottom jeans. They were low-riders, fairly big bells, and were (get this) purple and white striped, with a wide white belt. I got them in the late 60s, right after I had my youngest daughter. I gained weight after having her, and could no longer fit in them. Then came my youngest son, and I only gained five pounds while carrying him. Of course, that meant that I was actually losing weight. When I came home from the hospital, I could fit in those jeans again, and believe me, I wore them! My neighbor, who had delivered a week after I did, just hated me. She had gained over 70 pounds with her baby, and couldn't wear anything but her nightgowns. Ah, those were the days. My newfound slimness didn't last long, though, as I started gaining again in a few weeks, as I always did.

Yeah, Boo, I bought the Shark brand. There were a couple of others there that looked interesting, but since I had a reliable testimonial from Sean for the Shark, that's what I got.

Well, gotta get busy. I'm going to give myself two hours to finish cleaning this house, and then I have to move on to other things. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71758: Good morning everyone.

Busy today, but I'll stop back later. Hold teh swing for me.

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71759: Good morning to the Porch. Sorry I've been kinda scarce lately, but work has really been preyin' on my mind. (Anybody here know anything about cuttin' meat? I mean, UNIX server provisioning?) Once I'm over this STEEP learning curve I should be able to settle into more of a routine and be able to visit here more often. I miss you folks somethin' fierce when I can't be here. Y'all are the cat's. *sniff<*/I>

Hey Romeena I'm still lookin' for that email from you about us meeting up viz-a-viz (hand-to-hand) sometime. I know your plate's real full right now with the wedding and all but I do hope we can make some plans for later on.

Me-They and *Mavis, thanks for askin' after me. It's nice to be missed.

And possum, I agree with everybody else about your pictures in Romeena's album. They're nice. They're REAL nice. If you was 17 about that time, I'd guess me and you is about the same age. I'll be turning 50 in October. I don't expect you nor anybody else here to share your age with us if you don't want to. I just thought I'd let you know. You can probably tell from my pic at Ro's that I was and still am a geek, so you would'a been WAY outta my league. Heck, I was a BAND geek, the worst kind of all! And I was even DRUM MAJOR of our H.S. band. (I don't know why I'm playing True Confessions this morning. I guess it's just my way of saying, *shaking hand like Barney does* "Va-va-va-VOOM!")

I'll see ya.

OOPS... Left my right blinker on... Sorry.

Rafe

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71761: I understand, Rafe. I was sort of a band geek, too...not the kind of girl all the boys wanted to take out. I thought I was cool, which means I probably wasn't! ha I didn't really "blossom" until my early 20's.

Hope you like the shark, Romeena.

I'm holding the swing, M-T.

Boo

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71762: Morning Porch! Glad to see you Rafe been worried about ya! possum I love those pictures, I'm still working on a way to get some of my old pictures away from my sister, but so far, nothing has worked out. I will figure out something though. Boo reading these posts about the Shark Steamer, and how none of us want to get anything like that until it has been stamped Sean approved it occured to me that boy could work in sales maybe?? Just a thought. I've seen that steamer on tv and wondered about it and with us putting tile in the new house, I think I'm going to just break down and buy one. (for the love of Pete, just DO IT!) I'm off to my stained glass room, gotta get busy on these trophies. Spot I'll catch lunch today, grilled cheese sammiches, 'mater soup, BBQ tater chips, tea or pop (your choice) and twinkie for dessert.
Later taters
*Mavis

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71763: MAVIS: I don't know if you can actually consider a Twinkie as "food." Maybe, like Velveeta is labeled "cheese like food," it's more of a "snack-like food."

Good to hear from you, RAFE. Don't go too fast around that learning curve or you may end up in the grandstands.

BOO: Thanks. I only had one pair of bell bottoms that I can remember. I was in middle school. They were o-u-t after that. By high school (early 80s) everyone was was wrapping and pinning the bottom of their pants legs to make them even more tight around the ankles. I remember have trouble getting some pants legs over my feet. Guess the pendulum had done swung the other way.

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71765: Anyone have an big plans for Easter? We are going to a sunrise service at the church associated with the kids' school, then going home for breakfast, then off to our church for the eraly service. That will be over about 10:30, then we're headed to my parent's house for brunch. (On Sundays, it's either brunch or lupper.) Hopefully, we'll be home and napping (at least some of the kids) by mid-afternoon. I ordered the Mrs. and the girls corsages (figured I shouldn't let them go unadorned). I got a mini wrist one for Veda. She'll really get a kick out of it.

When I went to order them at the local florist, they were telling me that people don't do corsages anymore. Even five years ago or so they'd get 50-100 orders. Now, they said mine was one four. They said they were jokingly discussing how they could get the practice jumpstarted again. I told them if they gave me a break on the price, I'd let 'em pin their business cards to the bottom of mine. Just kidding, of course.

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71766: Hey Rafe- you're in our club-the 49ers Club, that is! We have quite a few members: Me,Spot, and Rev to name a few.Yep,we all hit the big 5-0 this year.Where DID the time go?!
I was in the band too,but I won't go so far as to call myself a geek! I don't know what I was-semi-popular,perhaps. Thanks for all the nice comments about my retro pics. Y'all are making me feel good for a girl who didn't get asked to the prom- maybe I'd have been asked if I'd worn some of that white lipstick! Ha!
Mavis,I say we get up a "picture grabbing posse" and get those pictures of yours away from your sister!
I wish Sean and his steam mop would come over here. Laci's spending some time with me and she's gotten all kinds of gunk on my kitchen floor-oatmeal,applesauce,things of unknown origin!
Well, guess I'd better skeedaddle. Y'all take care-love to all!

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71769: Speaking of things they don't do anymore, we were watching an episode of "I Love Lucy" the other day and Lucy was fussing with Ricky that he needed to put on a jacket and tie because they were going to the movies. The kids were wondering why the heck someone would wear a tie to the movies. Now, you're lucky if guys pull their pants over their underwear and girls aren't wearing slippers. (Seen that one yet? Teenagers seem to think it's appropriate to wear slippers and pajama bottoms just about anywhere.) People are taking casual and comfortable to a whole new realm.

M-T

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71770: Oh yea, Mavis, I have no doubt Sean would be good at sales. He is a persistant little guy and he knows his stuff when it comes to vacuums and such. Bruce says that when we get the house built and the barn up, he will let Sean have a little shop in the barn to repair vacuums and make some extra money. He usually fixes them and gives them away, though!

YOU didn't get asked to the prom, Possum?! Hard to believe, girl.

M-T, I won't be as busy on Sunday as I will be on Saturday!! I have an easter party for Erin Saturday morning, then an easter service for the kids at the drug rehab, then Erin has a baseball game Saturday afternoon! I wish they wouldn't schedule sporting events on Easter weekend. My sister is supposed to come over this afternoon to talk to me about what we can do for my parents this weekend. My mom really looks forward to holidays and all the food that goes along with them, so we have to do some cooking and get together.

Better go help Sean with his math!

Boo

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71771: I just read your last post, M-T. So true..seems like nobody dresses up for anything anymore. Of course with the heat here most of the year, ties and coats were always impractical. I think it is funny in the old movies the way men always wore hats, too, and women didn't go out unless they were wearing dresses and nice shoes.

I see alot of the kids with their pants/shorts pulled down so far that you see their compete backside and I just can't figure out why those pants don't fall off when they walk! We have girls at the rehab that do that, too.

Boo

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71772: Around here, they call them "coin slots."

M-T

April 09, 2009 - Msg 71773: That deplorable "saggin'" practice has caught on here, too. Or should I say escalated. The "saggin'" thing has been around a while, but has now gone to extremes, as you described. Why on earth anybody thinks that others want to view their great divide, I don't know. Several times recently, I've wished for a hot nickel to drop in the "slot." Boo, you'll enjoy this. I was watching a very "cool" young man slouching down the hallway at work the other night, pants well below the equator and hanging on for dear life. Someone down in L&D signaled him to hurry up (as though that baby wouldn't get born if he wasn't there) and he tried to hurry. Bad decision. The pants lost their grip, and dropped below his knees, almost tripping him, and we were all treated to the sight of the entire seat of his drawers, as well as the backs of his legs. I was just thankful he did indeed have drawers on, even though they were saggin' pretty low too. He had to stop to keep from falling down, grabbed the pants and hitched them up, then went loping down the hall, clutching his pants with both hands. We three nurses were trying, but failed to smother our laughter, and I'm sure he heard us. I really don't care. If he's that big of a moron, he needs to be laughed at.

When my grandmother, and later my mother, went to town on the bus in order to pay the bills, they always wore dresses, hats and gloves!! I actually got in on the tail end of that practice, but it pretty much ended by my mid-20s, for which I'm grateful. Now, I don't even wear hose! I'd have to be awfully dressed up, which I pretty much don't do, before I'd put on a pair of pantyhose. Not sure I even own any - I think my last pair went to stake up a droopy juniper shrub.

I tried the Shark, and I think I like it pretty fine. It probably works better on vinyl or wood floors than it does on ceramic tile, though. It doesn't seem to do much with the grout lines in the tile, but still, I do like it and will use it.

I think a little shop for Sean to work in is a wonderful idea. It would be a vote of confidence from his dad, which would mean a great deal, and would give him an outlet for his creativity, and a place to work off some of his anxieties. Good job!

Well, back to the tasks at hand. Entryway and dining room are done, and I've started in the office, with the living area, kitchen and sunroom still to go. My bathroom will be cleaned tomorrow. Be blessed, all. --Romeena
