December 26, 2008 - Msg 68883: Congratulations to you and the Mrs., Me They! That's wonderful news.

Our weather sounds just like yours, Asa. It's been snowing since last week, and the past few days it's been so durn windy and cold. Weatherman says we'll have another storm come thru tomorrow morning. Burrr. Funny you mentioned the diet ads on TV. I have noticed that. I was watching a show yesterday, and I swear every commercial was for some weight loss plan.

My Christmas was pretty fine. A few minor problems here and there, but all in all, it was good.

- Hazel

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68884: Thanks, HAZEL.

Don't mean to start a moulage on the day after Christmas, but speaking of commercials has anyone seen the new Arby's commercial? The one I am talking about has a guy on a bed and his wife is dressed in an Arby's worker outfit. It doesn't come out an actually say anything overt, but the insinuations are pretty shallow. They play the commercial at all hours of the day. It burns me up.

Now, back to spirit of Christmas...

Me-They

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68885: Well!! Let me be the first to congratulate you, Me-They! I think that's just wonderful! I'll admit, I'm glad it's y'all and not me, but when I was your age - well, you know what I mean. To everything there is a season. That's great, and it will be so nice to have a new little porchster.

Well, guess I'd better start straightening up around here a little. Since there were no festivities going on at this house, I sort of let it go to ruin, and it looks terrible. Wrapping supplies all over the counter, Starr's toys everywhere (that's a constant), empty shipping boxes stacked in the utility room - you get the idea.

Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68886: OK, let me be the second to congratulate you! Hazel, you're too quick for me. Good morning, dear friend. Sorry your weather is so cold and nasty. Wish we could sort of average that snowy stuff out over the country. A little less for y'all, a little more (or even some) for us. --Romeena

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68887: Congrats MT AND Mrs. MT. I hope and pray everything goes smooth.
I am aware of the Arby's commercial you speak about MT. And although I find it quite funny, I share your thoughts concerning its apropriatness. They show it here (not hear) right in the middle of the 6 o'clock news for pete's sake. To many young eyes to see that.

Hazel, you keep that storm, you hear (not here). We are good with snow for a good lonnngggg time.

You puppy lovers will want to see this. It's a hoot. I hope the link works. If not you'll have to copy it into your search bar.

Congratulations to the M-T family. What a wonderful Christmas blessing to you all and for your porch family as well.

Just stopping in for a minute. Busy the past few days with family visiting. I missed everyone.

Hope Santa was good to each and eveyone.
Will check by later today.

Big Maude

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68890: Me-They, your post brought tears to my eyes...first the story about Chad and then the big announcement. I think it is absolutely wonderful. Another blessed child being born into such a loving family in which he will learn about the savior! It's a time to rejoice. Prayers for mom and baby and for a safe pregnancy and delivery. Wonder if it will be a boy? I'll bet Chad would be very happy to have a brother. Now, on to a not-so-nice subject...believe it or not, M-T, I thought of you and some of the other parents on the porch when I saw that Arby's commercial. Disgusting way to try to sell a burger. Ridiculous. The other day Sean and I were watching some Christmas movie, and the "Smiling Bob" Christmas commercial came on. Sean went off, let me tell you. He was very aggravated that they would show such a thing on TV. The one I really can't stand isthe Victoria's Secret commercials...yeesh, put some clothes on. I don't like my husband seeing that...makes me feel very inferior (me and 99.9% of women in America who will never, ever look like those anorexic models).

Hey Maude, have a great day and come back and tell us more about your Christmas. What did the kids get from Santa?

Glad you had a good Christmas ASA, in spite of the blowing snow. I do wish you could have sent us some.

Stay warm, Hazel!

I'm with ya, Romeena, lots of cleaning up going on around here, too, I just decided to take a break. You know, I went back and read some of the archives of this time last year and was reminded about how sick Dale, Jr. was at this time last year. How is he doing now?

Better get back to work...oh, forgot to tell ya'll that on my second load of laundry, water started gushing out the bottom of the washer, so no more laundry for me today...poor Bruce. I wish he would just "call the man" for a change.

The Victoria's Secret commercials I don't mind that much, though. ;)

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68894: Well, I have the Christmas stuff down and packed away, all except for the artificial tree. I have to buy a container for it, but the ornaments and lights are off and packed. I am dissapointed to see that, even though things are much less cluttered, they are still cluttered :( Apartment living is tough sometimes. Seems like no matter what you get rid of, you don't have anough places to put everything, and with MIL here, it is worse.

Hope you all are having a good day.

Boo

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68895: Hehehehe. That's a good one, STERLING.

Thanks for all the well-wishes everyone. You don't know how much it means to me. Throw in a couple prayers for us, too. I have a feeling we sure are going to need them. Now the name suggestions can begin. AFD didn't use Hogette, so that's still an option. Only thing is, it has to be four letters and fit in with the names we already have.

I could live with the Arby's commercial if it was on after 9:00 or something, because it is kind of amusing. But, the few times I've seen it I was sitting there with my kids. Even if they don't "get it" now, sometime they will. Then they'll remember that I was watching it with them so it "must be okay." Therein lies the rub.

ASA: I read that about the dog. Too funny!

BOO: Yep, Chad wants a brother. Only thing is, I don't think he's prepared for the wait until they can do the things Chad has planned, together. So, in the meantime, Veda will have to stay his partner in crime.

It's funny, the two of them were arguing in his room the other day (he was saying "Heat Miser" and she was insistent it was "Sun Miser;" talk about your deep questions of life). They were yelling back and forth for a minute and finally Veda declared, "I don't want to hear you talk anymore! You just stay up her and clean up your toys!" Then she stomped down the stairs. It was cute, in an abnoxious sort of way. The Mrs. and I couldn't fathom where she got that from ;).

See y'all tomorrow. Prayers.

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68901: Hey, Asa!. I just checked out that link - that is tooo funny! I mean, who would believe it? He just walked in as big as Ike, made the heist and took off! I love it! I'd be willing to send the store owner the price of a few bones, just to assure that he can do it again.

Good grief! Would you believe it's 80 muggy degrees here today? Some Christmas weather! Oh well. Better that than buried to our ears in snow, I guess, though I'll confess I'd really like to see a foot or two of the white stuff.

I remember a little spell like this a few years ago, when the warm temps lasted a week or two, but it was a bit later, like early February. Anyway, my cottonwood trees put out their cotton buds, and then when a freeze hit in early March, it killed them all, and we had (drum roll, please) - A Year Without Cotton!! Of course, I no longer allow the trees to produce cotton, but at least that year I didn't have to pay the guy to come and snip all the buds off.

Back to my lazy afternoon - a couple of cookies, a small glass of sparkling cider, and a good book. Not a bad gig. --Romeena

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68903: Evening Y'all! First off, Congratulations to the Me-They family! That is wonderful news. We'll have to play "guess the baby's gender, weight,& birthdate"-whoever is closest gets a jar of VICKS! How's that? We'll all get together one day and make our predictions. July 8th is a good day to be born,M-T. My sweet 10 year old niece was born on that day. As far as a good 4 letter name, look no further than right here on the Porch- if it's a boy, name him after "Uncle Spot" and a girl- call her "Poss"! Hee Hee
Wish we'd get some snow.Closest thing to it around here is when I drive past a cotton field!

Hey Asa, I saw that shoplifting dog on CNN. Was he from your area? Perhaps YOUR dog? Maybe he was swiping ya a bone for Christmas! He was too much!
That Arby's commercial is just stupid,in my opinion. And no,it's not appropriate for kids.
One of y'all early tree taker downers can head on over here to my rock and take my tree and all the trimmings down for me!Otherwise,it may be up awhile.
Christmas gifts? I got some nice pajamas (not from Victoria's Secret!),lavender perfume, and another 1st Season of Leave It To Beaver! My sister got the wrong one-I asked for the 2nd season.I'll be heading down to Target tomorrow to swap it.Wasn't about to fight the day after Christmas crowd! Hoping tomorrow won't be bad.
Boo,you know what you said about folks passing away during the holidays? I agree, and just thought of something kinda strange. Our South Carolina entertainers die this time of year-really! Eartha Kitt, this year, and James Brown died on Christmas morning a year or so ago.Just sort of weird, huh? As Gomer would say,"Makes you think!"
Well, guess that's it for tonight. Y'all have a good evening!

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68904: Well, if it's a boy, how about OTIS?..it's four letters.

Uh, remind me to stay out of South Carolina in December, Possum. I would help you with your tree if we lived closer, Possum. I can take down a tree in record time. The only sign of Christmas left in this apartment is a poinsetta plant and a few cookie tins in the kitchen.

Do any of you have any fun plans for New Year's Eve? I wish someone from church was having a party this year. Of course, people don't drink at Baptist parties...they just have mulberry squeezins...(hic).

Hey Romeena, aren't you expecting a cold front tomorrow? They keep promising us one but it sure is warm and humid. I have the air conditioner set at 74 to make it feel like winter.

They just built a new Dairy Queen here in town so we had dinner there tonight. It's quite a nice place for fast food.

Zach and Ali are spending the night tonight and Zach and Sean are talking in the backyard. Zach is going through quite a struggle right now and I am concerned for his well-being. Would you please say a prayer that his dad would see that there is a serious problem and get some help for him? Thanks.

Think I'll put on my PJ's and relax. It's been a long day!

December 26, 2008 - Msg 68905: Wow Congratulations MT!! A new addition to the porch. And thank you for bringing up the Arby's commercial, I've been griping about that one for days now. Well our Christmas was beautiful, up in the 50's but by last night and this morning the rain had came back again. I guess we're just never satisfied with the weather no matter what it does. Hope ya'll have a good night, it's back to work for me in the morning after three days off. Take care--Salty Dog

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68906: Yep, Boo, it's supposed to get into the 30's tomorrow night, but will be in the 70's tomorrow and 60's on Sunday. Cold nights and warm days. Go figure. It's 73 right now, at almost midnight. I'm about to turn on the a/c, won't be able to sleep otherwise. Too warm in here. It's 78 in the house.

I can't imagine having all the Christmas stuff down now. For cryin' out loud, as much trouble as it is to put up, there's no way I'm yanking it down before New year, and probably not until the middle of January! My tree takes a full day to decorate, and at least half that long to take down. Eloise usually comes and helps me with that. There are several hundred ornaments on that monster, collected over the years, and some inherited from my mom.

Well, I'm tired, think I'll head for the bed. Oh, if you folks haven't visited the "Two Chairs No Waiting" site and listened to the interviews, you should. Very interesting! Be blessed, all. --Romeena

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68907: Morning gang. Hope the day finds you all well.
Hey Floyd, that's a great thing you have done there with the link thing. And also your podcasts are great. I have really been enjoying those. Thank you for all you do with all your efforts to keep Mayberry alive and well.

Yes Possum, that shoplifting dog was in a town about 40 miles south of me. Wasn't my Barney though. Although if given the chance he might try it. And thank you for the wonderful e-cards. You are so kind.

And thank you Hazel, for your e-cards. How's your new puppy doing? Did you decide on a name?

Boo, you are a lot like me. When it's over, it's over. I want my house back in order before New Years. I have been known to take our tree down on Christmas night before. But that was more because the thing was half dead and a real fire hazard. Now we have a fake tree so I can't use that excuse. It's still up, but most likely will be down early next week. I'll offer a prayer for Zach for sure.
I love Dairy Queen. But there are not manmy around here anymore. I love their Blizzards in the summer time.

What's for breakfast Spot? I'm famished.

Mavis, is Mr. Mavis feeling better? You all moving yet?

H.M., You put that new septic tank to the test yet? To bad you couldn't get in by Christmas.

Let's hear your New Year resolutions. Come on. Don't be bashful. They say one of the best ways of keeping resolutions is to verbalize them. So come on. Start verbalizing. :)
I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours.

Salty Dog, how you doing sweetie? Is all well?

Where's New Neighbor? And Charlotte Tucker? And Lucy? And all the other PMIA? (porchters missing in action)

Asa

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68908: Ro, my decorations were pretty simple here in this little apartment. We had a four foot tree on a table, so it was no big deal to take down. If I had a tree like yours, it would stay up a long time! Hopefully next year I will be in my house and have a more elaborate tree. I can't wait to unpack all my Christmas stuff that has been in storage for three years and see my old ornaments again. Speaking of, I wish Homemaker would check in and let us know how things are going with her house. We finally got what I think will be the final houseplans, so now we redo the foundations plans and we can start. We have the plan at just over 2300 sq feet, I think. Should be do-able and we will have an unfinished room upstairs that we can do later on our own, if we wish.

Well, we have to get the rest of Mom and Dad's stuff out of their house today so I will by busy with that. Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday after Christmas.

Asa, I have made no resolutions, sorry, nothing to tell ya.

Boo

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68909: Good morning, everybody! It's 55 degrees and damp here, should go into the 60's, then get cold tonight. Weird weather.

Boo, I guess I was visualizing your pretty tree with all your lovely vintage ornaments. I hadn't thought about your space limitations. I'll bet next year will be a very different story. Last year David and Brittney gave me the most unusual tree accessory. I may have mentioned it at the time. They gave it to me after Christmas, so I didn't use it until this year, and I love it. It's a little platform, about 8" in diameter, on an arm that clamps to the tree. When in place, it just projects out among the limbs and provides a flat surface. The support arm is adjustable, so you can place the little platform as close to the trunk or as far out as you wish. I arranged a tiny Nativity on mine, and it's so pretty. I got a nice picture of it, will put it in the album soon. I just love unusual things like that.

Remember me mentioning the juvenile squirrel that was still hanging around? Well, I've decided she's not a juvenile, she's just a tiny squirrel, a runt or something. Squirrels grow very quickly, so she should be fully grown by now, but she's still very small. Poor little thing, the bigger squirrels still run at her and occasionally jump on her, the mean things. There's one big female that's especially aggressive toward her - probably her mother, just doing what mama squirrels are supposed to do - run the kids off to make their own way. I try to watch and when she's out there alone, I put out shelled pecans and other treats for her. Poor little baby, she's so tiny and I'm afraid she has nobody to cuddle with for warmth, as the others don't seem to accept her at all. Wish I could help her.

Well, I never did run those errands yesterday, guess I'd better get them done today. Nothing earth-shaking, but they do need to be done. Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68910: Poor little squirrel. I said a prayer for her. We'll see what the Lord will do for her. Maybe she'll grow, or maybe the other squirrels will become more accepting.

Well, I am still waiting for my sister to call when she is ready to start working on mom's house. Guess I'll just have my tomato soup and watch TV....can't do laundry :)!

It's still very warm here, Ro..wonder when that front will arrive.

Boo

December 27, 2008 - Msg 68911: Morning, Porch. I haven't seen the Arbys commercial you all are talking about. So I'll have to be like Barney and say "No Comment!"

Asa, we named the puppy "Sally". We could not agree on a name. We have had her 4 weeks now, and we had a list of possible favorites, but everyone I liked, the Mr. wasn't too fond of. So for the first week we just called her "puppy". Then the second week, I finally conviced him that "Bee" was a good name, and since he didn't actually hate the name, we began to call her "Bee". But after a week of calling her that, even I admitted that the name didn't suit her. So hubby started calling her "Sally" (he's an Eric Clapton fan, and one of his songs is "Lay down Sally". Anyway, at the risk of having to put her into therapy because we switched her name yet again, I have started calling her Sally too. She is a wonderful addition to the household, and she is just the cutest thing! I'm going to try to take a picture of her and send it to Ro for the album. I got a digital camera for Christmas, so as soon as I figure out how to use it, I'll get some pictures of her. We had forgotten how much work a puppy is... chew toys all over the place, getting up during the night to let her out, trying to teach her what is "chewable" and what is not. (Like our hands and faces). Reminds me of an Erma Bombeck book I read once, where the Bombeck family got a puppy. Erma was sitting in the vets office with the dog, and struck up a conversation with a man also waiting with his pet. He said, "cute dog, does he have papers?" And Erma said "Yeah, all over the house."

I avoided the rush with getting down my Christmas tree, and just didn't put one up this year. I think it's the first Christmas season in my entire life that I didn't have a Christmas tree. But I did decorate the house with lots of decorations. Snow bunnies and candles and "12 days of Christmas" type stuff. Sally has discovered house plants and dirt, and I have a job of keeping her out of stuff, so we decided not to put a tree up this year. I also have a nativity set I put up every year, and she has learned how to put her paws on the table and grab it. I think it was about the third time of chasing her all around the house with Baby Jesus in her mouth that I decided it would be best not to do a tree.

My New Years Resolution? I guess I'll try to lose some weight. Although that's the same one I use every year, but this year may actually be the year. Oh, wait, I've said that before too.

It's snowing like crazy here again. And the roads are slick. It's winter!

It's winter here too,Hazel, only Mother Nature ain't figured it out yet! Would love some snow. You can keep those slick roads though.Be careful out there in the Hazel mobile!
You're welcome for the e-cards,Asa. Did your grandkids enjoy Christmas? I thought that was a good way of handling things.

We are finally back in the peach state from travelling to the bluegrass state. I'm so glad to be home. I do believe the old adage of 3 days of fish and company begin to stink. We got there Monday night and by last night we realized it was time to go. I love my family, but oh the drama! The boys had a nice Christmas, which is nice considering the economy and such. I got together with my old Girl scout troop for dinner and that was fun. My Mom was telling me that she felt like she was looking in a mirror listening to us talk about kids, recipes, grocery shopping, working, and all of the Mom stuff we do. We have all been friends since the 1st grade so-25 years or so.
I'll be back after I read the archives, but first want to wish Me-They and the missus and mighty Congratulations! How exciting! It's a good thing y'all are evenining up the amount of children.
Oh and Floyd, I look forward to hearing your podcast tomorrow.

December 28, 2008 - Msg 68927: Wow, chicken noodle casserole sounds really good to me, Possum...I'll be right over and eat what Laci doesn't want. It is pretty chilly here and a casserole sounds good.

Bruce got the washer fixed so tomorrow will be laundry day! yipee...(I'm being sarcastic).

Been watching TAGS on TVLand...that is until Erin threw a basketball in her room and broke the ceiling light fixture. Glass everywhere! What a mess, and right during the Remshaw House episode.

Possum, I have an update on Jubi. She wasn't in church today because her white count is low and they weren't able to do her last round of chemo. Please pray for the Lord's will for her. I hate it when she can't come to church because she hates to miss. She is also going through a tough time because she was given a small dog before Christmas, and the dog isn't working out because it is extremely timid and has some behaviour issues. They don't have the time right now to devote to it while Jubi is in and out of the hospital, so it will be tough for her to give the dog up. Please pray that the Lord brings her the right pup at the right time and that she isn't too hurt by losing this one.

You know, I keep seeing that stupid Arby's commercial just about any time I turn on the TV. One of things we are having a problem with these days, is my MIL and her TV habits. She likes to watch things like CSI when the kids are up and I can't stand for the kids to see the kind of graphic violence and gore on that kind of show. She just doesn't seem to have a clue about what is appropriate viewing for kids..she is just oblivious until I say something. It is beginning to really get on my nerves and I guess we will have to have a talk with her...or Bruce can. She will take it better coming from him.

Better go check on Erin.

Hello porch family....I haven't been able to check in much lately.....just been busy. I'll have to read the archives and catch up on all the news.
I have a pray request please....My wife's best friend's son was killed late yesterday in a snowmobile accident. He hit a tree head on at high speed. He was only 15 yrs old. He was such a good young man. We were no kin but he always introduced me as his uncle. Of course his mom is really going through a tough time. And it's really hard on my wife because they live so far from here. (they are from Maine)

You all have a good night and my prayers are with you all! Even in the mist of the storm, Jesus loves us!
-REV.

December 28, 2008 - Msg 68929: REV, so very sorry to hear about your wife's best friend's son. My prayers for his family and for you and Mrs. REV. Such a difficult thing to bear. May the Lord carry that boy's mother every step of the way.

December 28, 2008 - Msg 68930: Prayers brother Rev..oh my...we hope our prayers will help..hey YOUT possum..I will take a little bit of that casserole and save it for lunch tomorrow when I get up..i got a busy Home Depot and barn work tomorrow..Miss Sherry dont go in till 10 tomorrow night so she will come over tomorrow afternoon and Dad will help too..got the stuff to wire it and gona get siding to at least finish one side tomorrow..got the frone done...well enough about of that..where are you Tom,Asa...apb on a bunch of porchsters...well back to my movie on sci-fi...I love water and boat movies....SPOT

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68931: Oh my goodness, REV. I'm so sorry to hear about the young man's death. I just can't imagine how his mother must be feeling right now. This has to look like the very worst time in her life. May God's strength and consolation be upon her.

So, Boo, did Erin learn something about basketballs in the house? Maybe the builder should plan for recessed can lights in her bedroom? (heehee) Incidentally, I take it those are laundry-folding tables in the utility room? Seems to me that with appropriate chairs they'd make pretty darned good craft tables as well for the occasional project. Have him put plenty of cabinets in that room!

As for that stupid Arby's commercial, and all the other boring, dumb, insulting commercials, I see very few of them. Like others have said, I find something else to do, let the TV get ahead of me by an hour, then rewind and play through the shows, fast-forwarding through the commercials. Works just great! Just takes a little planning.

Well, I'm off to catch up with my Britcoms. I'm sure Hyacinth is giving poor old Richard a hard time. I remember one show where someone asked Richard if he ever just did something frivolous, and he said in 28 years of marriage, he couldn't recall a single frivol. Funny stuff!

Be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68932: One more thing - someone asked earlier how my son is getting along, and I realize that I never answered. With great joy and gratitude, I can report to you that he is marvelously recovered. At his last checkup, his doctor told him that if he just came in off the street for a physical, "I would never know there had been anything wrong with you." He was very close to death at one point, but is now at full health. To God be the glory! --Romeena

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68933: Good morning gang my night is about done...gona be nice around 60 here in Ga!...Romeena you work nights this week any?..Rev still praying for your wifes best friend son...Possum you help me fix supper and find Asa and Tom!...3 eggs your way, bacon (bends in the middle for Romeena),grits, hashbrowns, bisquits and gravy,oj,coffee....I will cook and possum will serve....will holler during my barn break this afternoon!...peace and love....SPOT

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68935: Good Monday Morning Porch, hope all is well today.

Back to work for me today. Looks like I have a busy schedule to take care of and after being off a few days a lot of catching up to do.

My kids come home today, they left on Saturday to go to Gatlinburg to an Extreme Youth Conference in Gatlinburg. I am sure they will be worn out and hopefully had a good time. 59 total youth and adults from our church went went to the conference.

Spent yesterday (after church) taking down my decorations and storing stuff away. I am sad to see the holidays end but am glad to get order back to the house.

I will take care of lunch today: steak sandwhiches, SLAW, fried potato cakes. chocolate brownie pudding for dessert. tea, kool aid to drink.

Prayers and blessing to all today.

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68936: I hope everyone had a great christmas As we close the year hooray! I thought it fitting to thank floyd and jim clark for keeping our mayberry up and thriving. As the year closes ,it is always great to look back one last time. Even though Mayberry lives here I am thankful for the amazing mayberry spirit that lives in each of us from coast to coast... It is amazing that not one of us if someone from mayberry dropped by our town that we would take them in cause their our family. I know of no other show that would do that do you? another thing to be grateful for. my prayers and blessings be with you and yours... May 2009 be kind to each of you... pappa bear your mayor

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68937: I woke up thinking about REV's friends who lost their 15 yr old, and prayed. I will keep praying.

Ro, it was I who asked about your son, and I certainly am glad I did. What a wonderful report! Thanks for sharing. By the way, excellant idea about the counter space in the laundry room. On the opposite wall, there will be full length cabinets against that wall, most likely.

We also added a window in that room over the sink. Some other changes will be the storage under the stairs, and in in the master bath, instead of having a door from the bath into the closet, I think we are going to have the closet door open into the bedroom to make more space for counter and cabinets in the bath...for one thing, I hate the way there is very little space around the toilet...I hate having to try to clean around a toilet in a cramped space. We may just end up adding a foot or two to the end of that space..we'll see. There were a couple of other little minor changes, like extending the back patio beyond the back door coming out of the laundry room and we will probably put a tiled shower in the hall bathroom rather than a tub...I despise cleaning tubs and the kids always shower. We will also be replacing a couple of regular doors with pocket doors for extra wall space. I think that about does it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Better go, I have to meet the plumber at mom's house this morning.

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68938: Morning porch.
Had to take the day off today. Sick as a dog and not having the time of my life.

Rev, prayers for that poor boys family. So sad. We have had 3 people die here in the last 3 weeks from avalanches. One was last night. Very sad indeed.

Ro, I am so glad to read your son is doing well. I know he was quite ill.

Boo, don't be looking at no plumbers crack today. Stay focused.

Maude, that sounds like a fine lunch indeed. Thank you.

Good to see you Papabear. I hope and pray 2009 is a good one too.

Hey Possum. How's our Laci doing? Well I hope.

Well time to go take another Mucinex. It seems to help some.

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68939: Mornin' Y'all. Spot,I'm not up to fixin' supper, lunch or breakfast today-let's order take out! We'll get Chinese from over in Mt. Pilot,ok? (Not for breakfast, though! Call Waffle House!)Been up since 4:30 with Miss Laci. When she stays overnight,it's all about play & no sleep! She wakes up like a kid on Christmas morning, wanting to get out to her toys. I tried to get her to go back to sleep, but finally around 8am,I turned her loose. She only had 6 hours,I had about 5,so I hope she is in her room napping now.
Boo,thanks for updating me on Jubi. Sorry she's dealing with all this.Sure hope she'll get the perfect pet.Poor child has so much on her plate, doesn't she? Prayers will continue, for sure.
Rev.,that is so sad.I can't imagine the pain that young man's mother is experiencing.God Bless.I'll keep her, your wife, and you in my prayers.
If I overlooked anybody, forgive me.I'm one sleepy possum. Will catch up with things later.Love to all.

Possum, can you take a little nap while Laci is napping? I was lucky this morning, my kids were worn out and slept past 9.

Thanks for the prayers concerning Zach. His dad called me yesterday and expressed his worry about how Zach has been acting. I was honest with him and told him that if Zach were my child, he would be seeing a good counselor who knows how to help deal with his anger issues, etc. One of the things that is happeneing that is a real concern is that he has a sort of obsession with a girl classmate. She ditched him and he was verbally abusive to her and now she won't have anything to do with him (smart girl), but he is going crazy trying to bring her around to being his girl again. It is like something out of one of those stalking movies, except that he is only 14! That kid need help so badly, and he was very anxious because instead of all A's, he got A's and 3 B's on his report card this semester and he thinks his dad is going to kill him. I had a talk with his dad about that, too. Anyway, it was an answer to prayer that his Dad called to ask me about Zach. It gave me the opportunity to express what I thought some of the problems were...I never expected to have the opportunity come about so easily.

Hey there, C-Darlin'. Good to hear from you! "What's yer hurry??"...come back and chat awhile.

On with the chores...

OK, I just skimmed the archives. Congrats to MeThey!!! (and mrs MeThey!!!) I know what you two were doing a few months ago!!! haha
WHOHOO!!
Asa- I'm not much into the acai and all the cleansing bits. More hype than help, i think. Like you said, i keep my diet rich in fruits and veges etc. One spear of raw broccoli has more vit c than 200 oranges!!
I listen to Dr Bob Martin, a syndicated radio show, (you can google his name) and he even says that colonoscpies really dont see or catch all that much. Here is one quote from the site:
"Former presidential press secretary and media commentator Tony Snow died of complication due to colon cancer. Because Mr. Snow had a family history of colon cancer he had a colonoscopy exam at least every six months. Mr. Snow was told repeatable by his medical doctor that he did not have colon cancer. Unfortunately, the colon cancer that he went on to be diagnosed with existed for a number of years until it was finally discovered. Mr. Snow’s case should serve to illustrate that having colonoscopies does not guarantee or insure that one is free of cancer."
For 2009, eat right is the best suggestion i have for you asa!!
(Tho I still get a Whataburger now and again)ha.
BOO- wow, you took down your decorations already??
BTW- Except for one time (when i forgot that it was sunday), I kept my 2008 resolution of not shopping on sunday.
God bless you all as we approach 2009.
Good to see you check in C Darling and pappabear!

December 29, 2008 - Msg 68948: Good morning, everyone! Boo, I agree, I would most definitely put that window in above the sink in the utility room. Also, have you considered using a tankless water heater? It is easy to install during construction, most definitely saves energy, and takes up far less space than a big old tank. Also, almost zero risk of flooding the house. I have two of them in this house, and wouldn't even think of going back to tank-type heaters. Actually, they take up so little space, I'll bet your builder could find room for one in the other side of your house, right in the middle of all your bathroom plumbing. Then you'd have immediate hot water, and not have to wait for it to travel from the other side of the house. They're around $500-$600, and can be either electric or gas. If you go with the electric, they're not much bigger than a Houston phonebook. The gas units are larger. I absolutely love mine. You never run out of hot water, and you aren't paying to keep water heat when it's not in use. Just know that installation now will be easy and cheap - later it gets a bit more difficult and costly.

That extra foot you're talking about adding in your bathroom is a great idea. Do that, which will put another foot in your closet as well, and there you have the space for a tankless heater. You have about 35-40 feet for the water to travel to get to the kids' bathroom, and over 50 feet to get to yours. You need a heater near those bathrooms. My own bathroom, though on the same side of the house as one of the heaters, is still 30 feet away, and it seems to take forever for the water to get hot. If it had to come from the one that serves the kitchen and washer, I guess I'd take a lot of cold showers. Anyway, it's something to consider.

Well, got to get busy. Be blessed, all. --Romeena
