Good morning everyone. Nice sweep, SPOT.
BOO: You talk a lot of sense. And you live what you preach. You have a husband, kids, a home to take care of, you homeschool, are building a house, active in your church, and you still find time to reach out practice what you preach. Whenever I think that I don’t have time to try and make a difference, I think of you. There is so much each one of us can do to help others and most of it has nothing to do with money. Of course there are some things better accomplished by us pulling together, and that’s what I was referring to in the “we.”
ROMEENA: As usual, you are the voice speaking wisdom with a practical tone. As Barney would say, “You know how hard it is to work with somebody who knows everything?” ;)
Welcome back LEON. Please to meet you. I’ll pass on the sammich, though.
AUH2O: Catch the debate last night? Whatcha think?
NEW NEIGHBOR: We’re headed to Lancaster tomorrow. I’ll wave to you. I would look for you, but the Mrs. hates it when I hang out the winder like a dog.

Hi All.
IN THE WAIT WITH PATIENCE
If your ship has run amuck
Or sunk to ocean's floor;
If your hearthas given up
And you can take no more,
carry all your woes to Him.
Place them in His care.
Know that He will help you through
Your days of dark despair,
Throughout all times and seasons,
Ride with them you must.
Take your problems to the Lord.
In Him put all your trust.
It may take hours, days or weeks,
Or maybe even more;
But if you have deep faith in Him,
He'll bring your shi to shore.

Good morning, all. Thanks, Me-They, I do run on at times, I'm afraid. It's one of the hazards of age. Tom, thank you for the lovely poem. You always set just the right tone with your posts.
And now, will you folks forgive me if I gloat just a bit? Today is Thursday. Somewhere on the highway approaching Dallas is a motorhome, containing a lot of sound equipment, and driven by none other than our very own REV, and he will be arriving on my church's parking lot this afternoon. The concert will be this evening. This is big, BIG I tell you! This is bigger than the time that fake gold truck came through. I think I'll tell Barney and Gomer, and especially Laura Lee Hobbs down at the dime store, so they can spread it all over town. I want as many people as possible to know about, so we'll have great attendance. I think I'll take Regis's "Down with the gold standard" sign away and give him one that says "Up with Great Gospel Music!" (He won't care, he just likes to wave signs.) To add further fun to the evening, Daphne and her family are planning to attend.
And now I've got to get something in the oven to take up there this evening for the potluck dinner, and then I plan to go in the early afternoon to greet REV and see if I can help him set up. I can probably help most by staying out of the way, but perhaps I can fetch and carry, if nothing else. Woohooo! I am so excited! What an honor is being bestowed on my little town!
Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

My daughter just told me that she received a phone call yesterday from a good friend of hers.He was calling to tell her that he has a malignant brain tumor. He & his wife just found out that a baby is on the way,and he is fighting so hard to be here to see his child. Howdy, everyone. Just got back from the church, met the REV when he pulled in. While I wouldn't kiss a deputy on the jaw right on the street, I sure didn't have any reservations about hugging the REV right there in the church hallway! He's just one of those people that instantly feels like family and old friend rolled into one. He's getting set up, and then plans to rest a while before the concert. I've got my barbecued sausage in the oven, and will head up there around 4 or so to help with anything I can. Sure looking forward to this evening. Daphne and her husband and maybe her daughter will be there, too.
Possum, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's friend. These "out of time" situations just seem to hurt so much. Prayers for all involved.
Me-They, after I posted that, I was afraid you'd think exactly what you thought. No problem, my friend. My observation about my tending to "run on" is exactly that, my own observation, and not a response to what you said. It's true. It's a lifelong trait, it's just me, and though I try, the words just keep bubbling out. My Dale used to just watch me and shake his head, with an amused smile on his face. Poor guy, he had the patience of a saint where I was concerned.
Well, gotta run. I'll try to post a report on REV's concert when I get home tonight. Please pray that God will use our friend tonight, to inspire and uplift the spirits of those there, and if there should be any unsaved person present, that they might realize that there is indeed a God that loves them. REV will make that known, believe me. Blessings, all. --Romeena

Thank you for those kind words, M-They. I am humbled by them because I am so very flawed AND amazed the God would allow me to join Him in the work He is doing. Sometimes I think I might be spreading myself too thin, though, but maybe not. Life is short, eternity is...well, eternity. I'm trying very hard to focus on that (and not without a fair amount of soul-searching). I was reading today about the lives of the apostles and John, in particular. When I think about the suffering of the early church because of their testimony (and the persecuted church in the world today), I feel like an incredibly large wimp...can I get an "Amen"? ha By the way, I knew what you meant by "we"...I believe you and I think alot alike, and why shouldn't we? We have the same Father.
Great poem, TOM.

Me-They Yes, I did see the debate and I agree with MDC, it did look like McCain is FINALLY taking off the gloves. Obama sure can look presidential but I can almost tell what he's gonna say before he says it. I think it's great that he's only gonna tax the "rich." The only way that plan doesn't work is if you buy food, cloths, produce, gas, a vehicle, maybe go out for a meal, or go see a show. So, unless we actually plan to purchase stuff taxing those who provide goods and services is a winner.

Been a long day but I did get to go to the hospital and see my friend Candy's new baby girl (Victoria). That baby looks exactly like her oldest brother, it's amazing. I got to hold her for awhile and that was so sweet. An interesting note; When Candy was 2, she was run over in the driveway and had to be taken by life-flight to Houston. She had a severe skull fracture and her mom says she almost didn't make it but God gave her back. Candy is a very special young woman, to be sure. I love her like family. Her mom is actually a good friend, too, and she kind of shares her daughter with me.
It's been very cloudy and cool today (loved it).

Several hundred WW1 veterans working for the WPA were lost in the big hurricane of '35. Who came along afterward and built homes for those left homeless from the storm? The WPA. "Two Chairs No Waiting" is a podcast about The Andy Griffith Show and all things Mayberry. There will be interviews, Q&A sessions (hopefully) and a lot of Mayberry fun. The first episode is part 1 of a four part interview with George Lindsey.

Hey folks, maybe we could all lift Ky-Girl up in prayer this morning. I am sorry to read she is going through a divorce and I imagine she could really use our prayers.
Auh2o, as far as the debate goes, folks here want they want to hear I reckon. I heard from Obama promises of tending to us all, taking care of our every needs, everything for everybody provided by the Gov. all the while he is appalled at the U.S. deficet. Promising 95% of all working Americans will get a tax cut, or at least not see their taxes increase, while at the same time proposing 1 trillion dollars in NEW SPENDING and yet proclaims he is the candidate for change? I guess there is something here I don't get.

Me? Snoring? I am not!! I've been up for at least an hour. I'm all dressed and have even washed Toye Starr's grubby little face.
The concert last night was absolutely wonderful. The REV was in fine form, sang some songs that were familiar to me from his older CDs, and some new ones from new CDs, and the crowd loved him. He has great "stage presence" - just makes you feel like you've known him forever, and you just have to like him. One song ("Daddy, I'm Home") brought tears to the eyes of a man whom I've never seen display emotion. It was just great. I'm going to pick him up around ten, and take him to run a couple of errands (he can't drive that big old rig just anywhere, you know), and then we're going to find some lunch. After that, we'll come back here to the house for a while so he can meet little Starr and enjoy some peaceful conversation, maybe out back where we can see and hear the fountain. Then he'll be heading out for Louisiana. I feel so blessed to have such an interesting friend, in the form of this kind, gentle, talented and Godly man.

Still haven't decided on whether to enroll Kai in the Baptist school. Although things are happening that are making the decision easier for me. Kai told me yesterday of a "health book" that two women teacher-helpers gave out and are using when they come to the classroom. I don't know why it takes two people to intruct a class of 17 2nd graders, but that's a whole other thing. One thing that concerned me was that the students were told by those two helpers to not bring the book home and to just leave it in their desks.
Well, I told Kai to bring it home today so I can look at it. Parents trump teachers anyday.
So the Baptist Academy is looking better and better. And if Obama gets in I think taking Kai out of public school will be even more appealing, as I fear parents will be de-valued even more than they are now.
I still have to have another talk with the principal, and perhaps even the Pastor, about some issues I have with the school, and I know I have been putting that off - in part because of some things I am trying to get straightened out with our fast-talking auto financial person -, but as I said things are helping hasten my decision to get Kai out of public school sooner rather than later.

Nice thought, MDC..maybe my kids won't have a mortgage.
I forgot to tell ya'll something Erin said the other day that was cute. She was getting undressed for her bath and she flexed to show me her biceps (not uncommon for Erin) and she said, (motioning to one bicep and then the other), "This is Andy and this is Barney"...strange kid but you all would get a big kick out of her.
I'm tired. Got dinner done for the most part, bed linens changed, a couple of loads of laudry, grocery shopping, and other cleaning chores...oh, even walked to the thrift store and found a neat basket to put in the church foyer (I am collecting donations of yarn for the girls at the rehab to crochet into blankets). I found 3 good, slightly-used books on pregnancy and prenatal care for the pregnant girls at the rehab. Found all three for 6-something a piece at Half-Price Books (do you all have them in your area?)...I don't know if I mentioned to you that we have some pregnant girls who are in real need of education and I am considering teaching a class or being a resource person for them since I worked in L&D. I am starting out by collecting the books and then I will see how to get the ball rolling to meet their needs. They don't eat right and really need to learn how to take care of themselves, etc. Sometimes the food they are given in rehab is not very healthy and they don't get enough activity.
Well, break is over...

Oh Sterling, forgot to say that I will continue to pray for your situation with Kai and school. I hope the teachers don't give Kai a hard time about bringing that book home.
I made an easy dessert today, for those of you who like to try new recipes. You buy a Sarah Lee pound cake, let it thaw and slice it into 3 sections (lengthwise). Mix a box of instant vanilla pudding with 1-1/2 C. of half-n-half (I just used milk). I mixed it for 2 minutes in a blender, then let it sit for 5 minutes. Spread half the pudding on the first layer, then the rest on the second layer. Put the top on and then mix 2/3 C of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of baking cocoa, and 5 teaspoons of hot water to make the icing. Icing should still be thin enough to spread on top of cake and drip over sides, if not, add a touch more hot water. Refrigerate. Easy and looks terrific.
Better go..

Mercy, ky girl, that's awful, and certainly we'll be praying for those families, as well as for your other personal needs. God loves you, and so do we.
Rev is on his way to Louisiana. We had a great day. Ran an errand that would have been difficult for him to do pulling that trailer and all, and then had a great lunch. Afterward we came back here, and little Starr had a great time sitting in his lap and soaking up some attention. He loves dogs, and she knew it. He shared a new picture of little Jake and I scanned it, so will be getting it in the album. We just talked and shared the wonderful things God has done for us over the years, and then I drove him back up to the church, and he's probably halfway to Shreveport by now. He is absolutely one of the nicest, easiest-to-know people you'll ever hope to meet. I'm already hoping he can come back next year, and so are my friends.
Sterling, if the school gives Kai any trouble over bring that book home, don't insist. Instead, present yourself to the teacher folk, and ask them if you can see and read a copy if you promise not to remove it from the room! I'll guarantee you that will get their attention.
Boo, that price for concrete is really scary. I can't imagine why it would cost that much. I guess things really have gone up.
Well, I'm tired. I think I'll go scare up some vittles, and settle down with a TAGS DVD. Be blessed, all. Oh, and visit website and order a CD. He's sure got some good ones out. --Romeena

Romeena, I had a package on my doorstep when I got home from work! Thank you so much; I will get them planted tomorrow! My husband asked what was in the box, and I said oh, some bulbs from my friend Romeena from Texas. And he said, When they flower, will they say "'y'all?" He thinks he's so funny. Thank you again.
Prayers for all.

Had to go to a birthday party tonight for one of the boys in our church so I am pretty ready for bed...or so I thought, but I tried but couldn't sleep yet. I have had a lot on my mind. Would someone pass the squeezins? Night all...

October 18, 2008 - Msg 67086:
Good evening, porch. Yep, Boo, time spent with the REV is time well spent. He's a kind and gentle man, you would spot him as a Christian even if you didn't already know. It just comes through in the way he presents himself. I wish everyone on the porch could have the opportunity to meet him. You know, we really need to get him to publish his schedule. I know he doesn't know exactly where everyone lives - none of us could make that claim! So it's possible that he has been in driving distance of other porchsters in the past or will be in the future. Believe me, if he's in your area, you need to go and meet him and hear him sing.
Daphne and her DH, Jeff, were there last night as well. They had dinner with us, and enjoyed the concert very much. I had met Daphne a few months ago when we met for a fried chicken lunch one day, but had not met Jeff. He's delightful, very friendly and funny. I'm sure we'll be meeting again.
You know, a Porchsters Reunion would be such fun, but the distances involved do present a problem. However, isn't it wonderful to contemplate the fact that one of these days, we will all meet, and neither time nor distance will be a problem anymore. There will be a lot of other great folks at our reunion too, and we'll have all the time we could ever want, just to visit and share.
I know, of course, that none of us really know what Heaven is going to be like, but if it's any better than that, I know I sure do want to be there. Blessing, friends. --Romeena
October 18, 2008 - Msg 67087:
Hello, porch family, I hope everyone had a blessed day today.
Floyd, thanks for the explanation for podcasts. I will definitely check it out.
Boo, I pray that God blesses you for the wonderful work you are doing with the girls at rehab, especially the pregnant ones. They need all the help and support they can get, even better from a Christian as you are.
Sterling, I'm still praying for your situation involving Kai's education.
MDC, thank you for the copy of the e-mail. That's why I really don't worry about the election. I know God's in control.
KY Girl, you are still in my prayers. When I was going through my divorce, I was advised by my attorney not to sign separation papers because my ex was trying to leave me with very little. And because I hadn't signed the papers, I couldn't get my child support started. One day, I had no money or food to feed my children. I prayed and asked God for help. I didn't know what to do. When I checked my mail, I had gotten a letter from an elderly aunt in Alabama. She sent me 50 dollars! But what was so amazing is that the letter came all the way from Ala. with NO STAMP. I carry the envelope in my Bible to remind me that God will always be an ever-present help in times of trouble. Sorry this was so long, but I hope it encourages you.
Time for bed; love and prayers for my porch family. God bless you all.

CD what a wonderful story, thanks for sharing it. Romeena I'm so glad you & Rev had a good time, was Mrs. Rev with him? I have had a busy week since I got back from the dog show, bathed the most beautiful Pit Bull yesterday, he was just the sweetest dog. Bless his heart he had fleas so bad as soon as I got him wet, the water was running red & the fleas were just jumping off him like crazy. I still don't understand, with all the flea treatments out there, why folks let their dogs suffer with those wretched little boogers. They are not only aggravating to the dog, they also carry tapeworms. I think when I get to heaven, I'm gonna ask the Good Lord what was his intention when he created fleas. Is that blasphemous? I hope not, I'm really just curous. ;) At any rate, Blue was so happy to have them off him, he rolled around on his back just moaning & you could almost see him smiling when I got him dried. Sterling after reading the archives, I see I missed answering your question about Kai's cat, I'm sorry about that. The best thing for her is get a slicker brush, the one with the wire bristles and a metal comb, they will get the mats out really good. If she is really matted right now, you might have to have someone cut them out & start all over. Cat fur is pretty hard to keep up with, it's so fine, but if you get them out, then spend at least 5 mins a day brushing, you shouldn't have a problem. If you need any other assistance, just email me k9hairstyles|at|aol.com
Boo it wasn't Feather that won the ribbons, it was our puppy, Pappy that won. I will send Ro a picture of him so you can see him. Feather has been spayed & can't show anymore. She is a beautiful girl, but she has some health issues that could be passed on to her babies, so she just hangs out on the couch while the other kids go to the shows.
LEON!! where have you been keeping yourself? What have you been doing? Are you still making candles? Are you still runnin around with peanut butter sammiches? Have you heard from Ollie Welcome back home, I'm so glad to see you back here!! Don't you run off again now, ya hear?
Well, I'm outta here for a bit, got a blog & a website that needs updating, email to check & some house cleaning to do. See ya'll in a bit.

Hey there Mavis. How are things coming with the new house? Have you moved in yet? I was looking at the pet photos to see Jake and I looked at the pics of Feather again. She is so cute. You know, you were talking about fleas and I think I mentioned that last month I bought the flea pill (Comfortis?? I think I spelled that right), for my lab. She is living at Dad's now while we are building the house...anyway, when I gave her the pill, the fleas came off and it really works, but the dog still scratches.. Mom and Dad say she keeps them awake scratching at night and that alot of her hair is coming out. I don't see that. She has very dense coat of black hair, so I don't know what to do for her. I hate taking her into the vet for hit because getting that 80lb dog into my suburban is really difficult (she is afraid), and getting her out when we get to the vet's if even worse. I have to pull and tug until I feel like I am haing a heart attack. Maybe they will just let me try an allergy pill on her or something. I'll tell you, since we treated her heartworms, she has gained alot of weight and is hard to handle.
Thanks for those kind words, CD. I appreciate it.
Ro, I have been thinking about what you said about the wood on my porch and I need to talk that through with Bruce. Flagstone is sounding alot better...
Better get going. My suburban is in the shop today getting a new alternator and I am driving mom-n-law's tiny Saturn...you should see me trying to cram in their with my long legs and ample form! Have to go run a couple of errands.

Hey Y'all- CD,your story is just what I needed to hear today.Thank you for sharing it. Don't really care, either.I envy those of you with good marriages. You are so blessed.
Ro,glad you had a nice time with Rev. I wish I could sit & talk with him. He lives only an hour or so from me-we should make it happen one day.Wish we could all get together. If I ever come into a bunch of money,I promise I'll get us all together somewhere! Hey,it COULD happen.Don't stop believin'.
I feel better just thinking about that.I thank God I have the Porch & my friends here. Think I'll go get me some BBQ,then find a good book or movie on tv and relax. Y'all have a good evening. Love to all.

Good afternoon, all. It's absolutely gorgeous here today. The sky is a crystal-clear,beautiful blue, not a cloud anywhere, there's a soft breeze, the sunlight is gentle and it's 79 degrees. Birds singing, squirrels acting squirrelly, flowers just bustin' their buttons with color - I love this time of year. Next to spring, it's my favorite.
Boo, there is some really pretty flagstone available. The one I've been using around here is called Turkey Creek (which I assume is the name of the area where it's quarried) and it's so pretty. Beiges, golds, tans, creams, the occasional smudge of light brown in it. Flagstone comes in a wide range of colors, though. There are shades of gray and slate, some that's almost white - lots of choices. The great thing about it, it's permanent, doesn't need any maintenance, and moisture is not an issue, because it will be "mudded" in directly on top of the concrete. Rarely, a stone may crack, and if it does, you just poke a bit of mortar into the crack and it looks like it's supposed to be there. Personally, I love it, and remember it being on the porches of my extended family in the countryside around San Antonio.
No, Mavis, Mrs. Rev wasn't along on this trip, but he's hoping he can have her with him if he comes this way again next year. I hope so too, I'd love to meet her. I'm sure she's just as nice as he is.
You know, a thought occurred to me today. (Yes, it does happen now and then.) I was thinking about the first time I met REV last year, and then about seeing him again this year. I was remembering the sense of instant kinship, of recognition that first time. I knew him when he came down the aisle in that church, and it felt just perfectly natural to give and receive a big old hug. Same thing again this year, and meeting Daphne and Jeff felt the same way. I think that's what it's going to be like in heaven, when we meet and greet people we've never met before, but we have an instant kinship with them. It may be that's what the scripture means in I Cor 13:12 - "but then shall I know, even as also I am known." I take that to mean that we will recognize each other, will be happy to see each other, and will know one another like one big family. Isn't that exciting?? Mercy, what joys our Lord has planned for us!
Tom, did you find the Porchsters' Pets sub-album okay? Mavis's directions should help. It gets a bit confusing, I know, until you know exactly what you're looking for. Just remember it's a sub-album, not a main one.
Well, guess I'll go have a late lunch. Maybe just some fruit or something. Be blessed, everyone --Romeena
