September 17, 2007 - Msg 55901: Hey there porch family:
Been a busy day here in my neck of the woods.
Boo: I use the canned biscuits by either cutting a hole in the middle with an old medicine bottle (empty of course :) or cutting them into 4ths. If you have little prople who like hole size donuts. I fry them in hot oil for about 1-2 minutes, turning often and drain on papertowels. Then let the kids dip in powdered sugar, cinnamon & sugar or my favorite--Chocolate redi-made icing!! yum, yum. Fun treat for after school.
Well, best be gettin' the young'uns ready for homework check and bed...tomorrow's another day. ~New Neighbor

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55902: I, too, have a fear of canned biscuits. And like Des, I thought I was the only one. When I start peeling off the label, I begin to tense up. I don't think my heart beats at all until I get the durn thing off. And then if it doesn't pop when you pull the label off, and you have to tap it against the counter, well, the tension just gets worse. If my husband is nearby, I'll have him open it for me. He's very brave. I wonder if there's a support group for people like us, to help us and let us know we're not alone. We could look at pictures of bats or something and try to figure out what's wrong with us.
I hope all is well with Millie. Bless her heart!
Ro, it is so cool you met Rev! It doesn't happen very often where the porchsters actually meet each other in real life. I know you've met Boo before, and Asa and New Neighbor met up, but I think those are the only times. Now you and Rev. Neat! I'm going to be visiting my friend in San Antonio one of these days, maybe in the spring, so maybe we can arrange a get together with the Texas folks.
I love the Match Game, it's my favorite game shoe. Dumb Dora was so dumb...

He has been with this girl for about 2 years (no, I don't care for her, but that is another story) once again, she has broken up with him & sent him into a depression. I know he is 19 & it's time for him to make his own decisions, all I can do is be there for him & hope he listened to what I tried to teach him. He may be 19, but he's still my baby & my heart is just breaking to hear him crying, to know he is hurting & there's nothing I can do to take it away. Please pray that he will get through this quickly.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55904: Dr. P, deer are doing great, meet me every morning and evening claiming they are hungry and never fed. But, deer don't always tell the truth. I have some new pictures showing the bucks this year with their antlers. Have a shot of Spike eating from the scoop with me feeding him. Will send to Ro to replace some of the others.
I hate the cans of bisquits...so easy to make and so much better. Sometimes use rolls since with me making them takes getting up before 5AM for a Sunday lunch.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55906: Aw Mavis, I feel for you. I will pray for Jacob and his broken heart (and for you). I guess we all probably remember how much it hurts. I remember my sister going through that with my nephew when he was about your son's age. It was really tough. My nephew had gotten involved in a very "toxic" relationship and it was as if she had some kind of really unhealthy hold on him. It was murder getting him to the point of letting go for good, but he finally did. Now he is happily married to the sweetest angel there ever was...we couldn't have picked anyone better, God answered out prayers. They are the ones, by the way, that just had the little baby Emily. I pray that when the time is right, Jacob will meet a sweet angel that will love him the way he deserves to be loved. Hang in there, Mom.

Hazel, what a great idea...maybe we can get the Texas folks together in the spring (and anyone else who feels like traveling).

Looking forward to those pics, Ray. Maybe you should give me your biscuit recipe because I have never made biscuits, that I recall anyway.

Time for bed!

Thanks Ray, I'll try making some biscuits just to shock my husband, who has never seen a real biscuit (well, not from my kitchen anyway). I do know how to make some pretty good cream gravy...learned that from my mom, who learned from her mom, etc....I also learned to put Tabasco sauce on my cream gravy from my Grandpa. Anyone ever try that?? Grandma used to make this big buttermilk biscuits and we put cream gravy and Tabasco on them....mmmmm!! Haven't had that in a long time.

Gotta get Sean up to finish his math homework. We worked on homework for a couple of hours last night and after awhile his brain (and mine) shut down!

My boys used to make them. For buttermilk biscuits, take 2 cups self-rising flour, dash of salt, cut in to flour 6 tablespoons of real butter, add 3/4 cup of buutermilk, mix carefully. Pat out with your hands on floured surface, cut I bake them in a cast iron skillet at 425 degrees for 14 to 16 minutes. when you take them out of the oven sliver a little bit of butter on top of each biscuit, Yum YUum This is a slightly alterd recipe from my Great-great Grandma ,she ran a boarding house and made biscuits every meal. Thanks for all the prayers for my wife and I. We both appreciate them much. She is still going to specialists to try and find out what's up with her liver. She has to have a liver biopsy done on Friday. Not looking forward to that at all. Hopefully the news will be good.

Hazel, if your going to Texas you might as well stop and pick me up. It is right on the way you know. I think it would be way cool to have a Porch meet someday.

Prayers for our Millie. I am really worried about her. I hope she is ok and not in pain. And prayers for her family to have peace and comfort during this most difficult period.

September 18, 2007 - Msg 55914: Mornin' Y'all- Mavis,I'm sorry to hear that Jacob is going through a rough time.Nothing fun about a broken heart, especially when you're young & love struck. I'll be praying Jacob comes through it well. One positive thing is that he's got a good Mama who'll be there for him.

If anyone watched the Travel Channel last night, I want to let you know that my little hometown came across as the armpit of the South! Made it look like a real slum town with the exception of our BBQ place! The camera focused on the old section of Main Street, which has been pretty much vacant & in need of repairs for years. Then they show that tar paper shack and some old raggedy green trailer! Our water tower sure was pretty though! Ha! Yes,things like that are part of this area, but so are farms, modern shops, and beautiful old plantation homes. Anthony Bourdain of the Travel Channel can KISS MY GRITS for presenting my little town in that way!
There were some good points to the program-they highlighted 2 spectacular eateries in Charleston- Hominy Grill & Jestines. I'm glad they touched on the Gullah influence of SC as well.

Well,I need to calm down so I don't get thrown out of Applebees at lunchtime -don't want to embarrass Big Maude! I just can't believe how they portrayed my town to the entire nation last night.

Y'all have a good day- I'm gonna calm myself!

September 18, 2007 - Msg 55916: Good morning, all. Just got home from work, eyelids are slammin' shut, so I'll make this quick.

Biscuits - I love 'em, make my own, and they're gooood! I also like the canned variety - like two different things, as far as I'm concerned, like the difference between Pepsi and Sprite. Just different.

Cream gravy - oh yes, honey. I can make that too, been making it since I was about ten. And yes, I like tabasco on it sometimes. For those of you who think you wouldn't like it because it's hot, you should try it. When you get hold of a hot pepper, the thing that will cool you off is anything dairy, so the cream gravy sort of cancels the heat but leaves the flavor. Yummy!

Possum, I didn't get to watch the show, and now I'm glad I missed it. Shame on them for doing that!

Mavis, I'm sorry Jake is going through such a time. Nothing is worse than being 19 and lovesick, unless it would be being 18 and lovesick. Poor thing. He'll get over it, though, really he will.

Asa, I'll be praying for Mrs. Asa, and for you. Try not to let her worry too much about the biopsy. I'm sure you've got a good doctor, and the biopsy won't be as bad as you're thinking. I've assisted with many, and while they're not exactly the way you'd choose to spend a morning, they're over quickly, and the patient spends a little time lying on a sandbag or some such, and then that's that.

Prayers for Millie and her family, too. Bless their hearts, I just don't like having our porch friends going through such bad times.

A Texas get-together sounds good to me, but I'll have to vote for springtime. Anything in the next three to five months won't work for me. Spring would be more fun anyway.

Well, this "short" entry has grown long. I'm off to the ironing board. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

P.S. Rev said he might not have internet access for a few days, he wasn't sure. He'll turn up pretty soon.

Possum, I didn't see it either. All I want to ask is WHAT ABOUT THOSE COTTEN PICKEN ROCKS??? The one you reside under particularly. Was it on the show?

Thanks Romeena. I will tell my wife not to fret to much about the procedure. She doesn't usually anyway but this one has gotten her down for some reason. I think she's just about had all she can take so I pray they can help her soon.

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55931: Thank you Sterling, AFD and SPOT. I so much appreciate the kind words and prayers. As I said, yesterday was trying. I went to help my dad with some things and he was just down and depressed. I feel terrible about it but not sure what to do. He can't stay there in the house with mom much longer. I talked to my sister yesterday about a family meeting to discuss our options. It won't be easy to get mom and dad to change anything but we can try.

As far as Sean is concerned, he had one or two good days last week, but for the most part he has not done well. I think I am going to try to get in to see his doctor in Houston sooner and take him back to the psychologist ASAP. When he went before, they saw him twice a week so we will probably be doing that again for awhile. I'm telling you the kid is a train wreck waiting to happen. Last night was terrible. Crying and begging for help, wanting to be "normal". I have been putting off really getting him the help he needs because of being so busy with everyone's needs but he has to become the priority right now. Bruce and I had a long talk last night and decided to homeschool him again for awhile until he gets some help and we adjust his meds, etc. It's been a real roller coaster ride and I really didn't want to take him out of school again but I don't see what else I can do. The constant teasing he endures from the kids is taking it's toll on him. He tells me he has no "self-respect" anymore. What on earth do I do with a kid like him? We need help and I hope we can find someone in Corpus Christi who can help us to cope with Sean's problems. Like someone mentioned before, when you are dealing with a kid with Sean's problems who is on Paxil, you can't just ignore what's going on.

Anyway, thanks again for your prayers, I am sure God will answer as He always does.

SPOT, sounds like you are going to be having a great time. Drive carefully now.

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55950: Millie feels better now and we will ALL see you someday on the great porch...we loved you very much and I very much enjoyed the time I got to spend with you on the mayberry porch...prayers to your family to be strong...Love your friend forever till we meet again..SPOT

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55951: Oh, my dear friends. Words are so inadequate to respond to such a loss. Tom, I think you and homemaker said it very well, for all of us. Thank you.

I will order flowers sent to the services - I suppose we don't know when or where that will be, but the florist can find out, with her name and city, which I have. I'll order something nice, and if any of you wish to be a part of it, you have my address, or email me and I'll send it to you. If we go over, the excess will be sent to her family, or used to buy some TAGS DVDs for the children, if you approve. Me-They suggested the DVDs when he and I were discussing it by email a few days ago, and it seems a fitting thing. Whatever the majority wishes to do will be fine with me.

At any rate, I'll order flowers this afternoon. I think the porch should be represented, don't you agree? She was a shining light here, and she will be missed. Where she is, she has flowers more beautiful and rare than anything we can send, but her family should have the tangible evidence of our love for her.

Rest in peace, dear Millie. Sleep sweetly. --Romeena

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55952:

Prayers for Millie's family and loved ones. May she rest in peace.

"Oh she told me, when I'm gone
Don't cry for me, don't cry for me
When I'm gone, don't cry for me
I'm with my savior, I'm with my savior
So don't cry for me"

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55953: I am numb after learning from Skippy about our dear friend Millie. Her hospice at-home services just started this week. She went quickly.

For me, Sarah's chat won't be the same without her. I will miss her postings here as well.

Millie last posted here September 15. I searched the archives to see how long she has been with us. Below is her very first posting:
-----------------------------------------------
May 06, 2006 - Msg 37630: Hello, everyone. I've been visiting her for a few months, reading the posts, too shy to join in. But if you'll have me, I'd like to start posting here. I'm a 43 year old mother of four with stage 4 breast cancer, and I just had my 3rd recurrance in my liver( in the last 10 months ). I am a very positive, upbeat person, but this is a tough time, and my husband is under so much stress, I thought it would be good to have some other outlet. Hope you all can find it in your heart to take me under your collective wing. I hate to sound pathetic and desperate, but I think I just need some good, old fashioned Christian fellowship. Thank you all for your timew and attention.

Stuck in Bed and Waiting by the Computer,

Millie

-------------------------------------------------
Eternal rest grant onto the soul of Millie, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace in heaven with the Lord, amen.
I offer prayers for Millie's husband, children, relatives and Millie's soul.

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55954: PH, I know that you and Hazel were the rocks that kept Millie going. I thank you for being at the chatroom for her. I loved chatting with her but my schedule wouldn't permit me too as much as I would like. I am praying for you and Hazel as well -
many cyber hugs your way,

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55955:
My the heart heavy tonight.

Poor Horatio-That was nice reposting Millie's first one. It kinda hurts just to type her "porch name." Hard to believe we only knew her a little over a year.

God Bless you Millie, love ya.

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55956: Thank you homemaker. Hazel helped Millie a lot more than I did. Thank you Hazel.
Millie was the only reason why I participated in Sarah's. I'm not much of a real-time internet chatter.
Please pass me a tissue ....

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55958: Thank you for posting that, Poor Horatio. I was just thinking earlier about trying to go back and see if I could find her first post, and you had the same idea. PH, Millie cared about you so much, and was so grateful for your friendship. She always spoke of you with affection. And she appreciated the porch so much as her place to vent... a place to be herself. I'm sitting here typing with tears in my eyes, but just feel the need to express what Millie would want to say to all of us right now: "Thank you, Porch, for being here for me, you helped keep me strong!"
- Hazel

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55959: Thank you, PH. How sweet to read her first words to us. You always know just the right thing to do to be helpful.

I am struck by the fact that she was only on the porch for such a short time. It seemed as though she had been here forever, but it has only been sixteen months. Does that seem strange to anyone else?

The flowers are ordered. The florist will try to determine which funeral home is handling the arrangements - they use an internet search, I think. Anyway, if anyone has any details, please share them. I'm sure we'll all want to send cards. I signed the card on the flowers "From your friends on the TAGS porch. Sleep sweetly, dear Millie."

My friend Eloise and I, who are co-mothers-in-law to my son and her daughter, went out to a little cemetery today to the grave of our grandson, who would have been five on Monday. We do that every year - it has become something we just do. Anyway, while there, we were discussing how sad and tragic it must be for those who do not have the hope of eternity with the Lord. How do you give up someone you love, believing that they're just, well, gone? No future, no hope, nothing, just gone. Instead, we can praise God, because as Paul said in his letter to the Thessalonians, "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope." How wonderful!

To Millie's family - please know that we loved her, even though we had never actually met her. Her sweet spirit and her courage drew us all to her, and we loved her. If there is anything we can do to help, just ask. To precious Miller, and the other children, know that you have a lot of aunts and uncles and a granny or grampa or two on this porch. We will pray for you. Your mom loved you very much, and was very proud of you. I know you'll continue to always make her proud. To her husband - be strong. She is with the Lord, and is no longer in pain. You will see her again.

May the Lord bless and keep us all, until we shall meet again. --Romeena

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55960: For our dear MILLIE: This song is so precious to me when one of my patients passes away.
1.Oft times the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,
We're tempted to complain, to murmur and despair;
But Christ will soon appear to catch His bride away.
All tears forever over in God's eternal day.
2. Life's day will soon be o'er all storms forever past,
We'll cross the great divide to glory-- safe at last;
We'll share the joys of heaven- A harp, a home, a crown,
The tempter will be banished, We'll lay our burdens down!!
CHORUS--It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of His dear face
All sorrows will erase. So bravely run the race
Till we see Christ.

We'll miss you Millie!! ~New Neighbor

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55963: You are most welcome auh2o.

Hazel, your posting has got me crying big time now ...
Millie expressed to me just how much she cherished your friendship and chat sessions as well.

I wonder if the flowers I sent Millie got to her in time. If not, maybe they can be used at her wake or memorial service.

I hope we get a posting from Millie's husband.

Thanks for taking the lead....your post reminded me of a conversation I had with Millie Sarah's several months ago. She talked to me about her younger life and how she came to Christ. I have no doubts about her being with the Lord right now and that is such a comfort, as you have said. I will really miss her but look forward to seeing her again.

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55967: Tom, I think the prayer time is an excellent idea. I'm sure that we will have the information soon, as several are working on it. As soon as we have it, we'll get it on the porch. Since we will not be able to attend in person, your suggestion of a prayer for her at the time is just perfect. Thank you, friend. --Romeena

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55970:
Oh my dear friends! My emotions are are churned up again. I feel a numbness, like I did when we lost Don K and my mother and others. Millie was such a brave soul, real courage that is rarely seen in todays world. Dear true and living God, please take Millie right into your arms, may she now walk with the angels and the patriarchs. My prayers go out to the family, the kids and her brave husband.
We have lost many friends on the porch in recent days. As we go thru this time of the high holydays of our Jewish brothers and sisters, may our dear Savior soon fulfill this feast of trumpets and return for us all.
I pray for PH, boo, hazel and all of us really.
This one hurts.
May she rest forever with our Lord. AMen

September 19, 2007 - Msg 55979: Hello everyone. Its me. I noticed everyone talking about millies death. I remember when I first heard the news. My brother woke me up and told me mom was dead. I figured he was just joking. I cryed when I heard it was true. It is sad.... but she is no longer in pain, and is in a better place.
