September 14, 2007 - Msg 55797: I would like us all to have a prayer time tonite for Millie, Mrs. Asa, and anyone who needs it. . .maybe we could do it 9 EST. You all can figure out the rest.

Jesus - please be with Millie today. Her burdens are many. I know that your love can comfort her and her family at this crossroads in her life. Please give her the strength to endure her treatments. Please ease her pain - please allow your angels to guard over her even more today. She is such an angel to us and
she is a treasure Jesus to all of us on the porch. From her we have learned how to live life more fully and to stop and tell all that we love them. Please be with her chatroom buddies as they have listened and been with her at some dark times. They are special people Lord that you have sent into her life. Thank you for presence in all of our lives. Thank you Jesus for Millie. . .In your most precious heavenly name, Amen

Thank you everyone. . .

September 14, 2007 - Msg 55800: Thank you for leading us in that heart-felt prayer, HM. May the Lord move in a mighty way in Millie's life and in the life of her family. I am babysitting my friend's 4 children tonight (age 1-11) so I will have 6 altogether counting my own. I will try to get away to pray, though. I need to tie a red string around my wrist or something so I can remember! I expect I'll be a bit crazy-headed by then...

Thank you so much Me-They and Mrs. Wiley for your prayers for Sean. Being parents, you know how what it means to me. All my porch friends make my life so much richer and to tell you the truth, I will probably live longer because of you (I get rid of alot of stress here on the porch). What wonderful friends you are.

Me-They, that is funny about the Vegas commercials. I have only been there once, just passing through when I was 19. I was really uncomfortable with it because at the time I really felt like I was in "Sin City" for sure and I wouldn't even go into one of the casinos. A few years later I went with my parents to Reno, though, and stayed at Circus Circus. Seems like it was fairly enjoyable. We had a really nice room and I remember ALOT of food, really cheap too. I didn't do any gambling, though. I was a very straight-laced young person...I have loosened up a bit but not much, I guess. Not judging anyone else, though.

My sister and daughter-in-law are coming over to have coffee with me in a bit and bringing Baby Emily!! Yippee...I haven't seen her in over a week. I have a cinnamon coffee cake in the oven and it smells heavenly. Wish you could all join me.

September 14, 2007 - Msg 55801: Do ya'll think I said "really" enough?...how redundant. Oh, by the way Me-They, I forgot to say that I didn't know you couldn't use bleach if you have a septic system...why is that, and what else can you not use? I will have septic at the new house and I need some education on the subject of septic tanks...

Boo

September 14, 2007 - Msg 55804: BOO: Septic tanks rely on bacteria to break down the solids. Bleach kills the bacteria. Chemicals like that make the tank function less efficiently, causing it to be pumped out more often than necessary (usually 3-5 years) and potentially causing problems. Some people flush things like Rid-X to help stimuate the breaking down process, but, if they use chemicals like bleach, they are just flushing money down the drain. There is a really amusing, short book called "Country Plumbing" that can explain everything you ever wanted to know about how to install and maintain a septic system, and how they work.

So you shouldn't flush bleach or HM's meatballs down the drain. Really...

Me-They

September 14, 2007 - Msg 55805: Oh, and FYI, BOO, some cleaning products will tell you "Does not harm septic systems." That is deceiving; they don't actually harm the system per se (which is usually made of cement and plastic pipes), but they do kill the bacteria causing it to function less efficiently. Basically, you should try and use natural cleaning products, or at least less caustic ones. Things to steer clear of are things that Chemically wipe out 99.9% of bacteria.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been so busy here I barely have time for "have-to-do things" much less getting online.
First, let me say, MDC I am so sorry about the loss of your Mother, I know how much that hurts, but rest-assured, you know (as I do) she is happy where she is now & you will see her again. My thoughts are with you & your family my friend, hang in there.
For those of you that want to sign the guestbook for MDC's Mom, the web address is

just copy & paste in the browser. Millie you are something else, lady! Prayers your way as well. Ro I do the same with my Chinese Crested puppies whenever I have a litter. The hairless babies don't get their teeth in as early as the powderpuff, so they have to stay with me a little while longer. Good thing to do, so, thumbs up to Star's breeder. Boo & the rest that were talking about the Pit Bull bans & such, that is a "button" for me for lots of reasons, I won't go into them for now, would take up too much porch for that. ;) Tom check your email, I sent one to you this morning. Hey right back atcha Charlotte Tucker! And Asa prayers for you & the Mrs as well. Sterling so glad you are home, I was worried about you, glad things went ok for you. Me-They you are truly a mess my friend! But you sure know your "stuff" even if you are full of it. teehee Boo how are your Mom & Dad since you guys moved?
Best get out of this rocker & get more done, we put a grooming shop in our basement & there is still lots to do before it's just as I want it. I LOVE working from home! That husband of mine is just awesome for fixing this up for me so I don't have to work so hard! AND we got a new baby here, that needs feeding, a baby parrot, JoJo that is 7 weeks old. I will send pictures to Ro so ya'll can see him. He is just cute as can be!

September 14, 2007 - Msg 55827: Nice to see you, Millie. You take care of yourself now.

I saw the "real" Mayberry, Mt. Airy, on a CNN weather spot today. Seems they were getting hit pretty hard near there. Hope everyone who is in the path of those storms is ok.

If you want to know one of the things I did in Vegas, just go to YouTube and put something like "God Bless The USA Fountains Of Bellagio" in the search box and go down to almost the bottom of the page and look for my name and those "dancing waters" should be there. Unless some more people uploaded that same thing by the time you check there, because there are a lot of them already, some with better quality.
Sorry for the pixelation. I must have had the camera set on a lower quality picture, so you might want to watch one of the better quality ones. But as everything, it looks better in person.
For all the things I hated about Las Vegas, that wasn't one of them.

I probably won't upload some of the other attractions we saw, like the volcano outside of our hotel(if you want to see what I am talking about, just do a YouTube search for "Mirage Volcano", and it brings up a ton of those as well), because there are alot of the same things we saw already on YouTube, and once again, with better quality.
I may put up some of my walkings around Vegas while my wife was in the conference though. I don't think I took too much video though(it's mainly a still-camera).

Oh, and while you are there, and if you are bored, you can check out my silly puppet videos I did a while back. Kai helped me with those. She's a pretty good puppeteer for a six year old.

Well, goodnight everyone. I have to work tomorrow. Don't really feel like it, but it's only for a day, and then I think I get my usual Sunday and Monday off. Hopefully. I think I am still feeling some effects from the plane ride, cause I am still pretty tired.

Goodnight all.

September 15, 2007 - Msg 55835: I forgot to share an answer to prayer with all of you! Remember I asked for prayer for sean who was being picked on at school and I was praying for the Lord to give him a friend at school. Well, we got a quick answer to that one. When I picked Sean up yesterday from school, he told me that he had the best day ever at school. It turns out that he made an announcment to the class that he was going to start acting his age and stop doing such childish things (like passing gas for laughs!!...crazy kid). The kids repsonded to it by giving him alot of support and one of the kids who is Sean's age and had been giving him a hard time, actually befriended him and was teaching him how to play basketball and giving him instructions on the "right" court shoes to buy. So, looks like Sean has a friendship beginning. Thanks for those prayers, and thanks mostly to the Lord for his answer. Sometimes I just scratch my head when God answers so quickly and I shouldn't be so surprised, right?

Well, I survived my babysitting venture last night and actually enjoyed it. My friends have a little girl who is about to turn 2 and she is the cutest, funniest little thing. It's just a joy to be around her.

It's been kind of a tough morning, though. I had a dream last night about Karen and since I woke up I have been really missing her. I can't decide if the dreams help or hurt. I almost feel like I saw her again and that is comforting but now I miss her all the more.

Well, got to go, you guessed it....do the laundry....then off to a birthday party of one's of Erin's school buddies.

Hey, anybody else in the Dallas area (Daphne?) - how about joining me in going to hear our Rev tomorrow morning? He'll be at the Fairmeadows Assembly of God church in Duncanville, service at 10:40 and he says to dress comfortably, slacks for ladies are okay. Just Google that church name, you'll get their website that has directions to get there.

Boo, I'm very happy for Sean. I hope things continue to go in a positive direction for him. Isn't it amazing, how we're always surprised when we got a direct answer to prayer?

Well, gotta go get my hair cut. I'm pretty shaggy, wouldn't want to embarrass Rev in the morning by showing up looking like a sheepdog.

September 15, 2007 - Msg 55853: Thanks Mavis. I went and bought Sean some new Nike basketball shoes today. He needed some new ones and he is very proud of them. I am just thrilled that he is showing some interest in sports. Today when we were on our way to the shoe store, he started talking about how he doesn't want to say bad words like some of the other boys in school because he loves God and doesnt want to do that to Him. He said he wants to be "a Godly man" and that God did so much for us, we should be willing to live right for Him. He said that because of the tough things he has had to endure, he knows God is real because he has seen God do so much for him. What an awesome thing to hear from your own child...I know the struggle is all worth it, like many of you have been telling me for some time now. Thank you so very much for your prayers...you see, God is answering them. Keep praying for Millie and her family. I know God can move mountains for them.

Hey, what's for lunch? Church was good today. Came away refreshed and spiritually fed. Beautiful day on this PA. front porch. Think I will literally sit a spell. ~New Neighbor

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55861: Well, neener-neener-neener, everybody! Just eat your hearts out! I just got home from the most wonderful morning and part of the afternoon. I got off work in time, wasn't too sleepy, so decided to chance it and drive to Duncanville and meet REV and catch his concert. I am sooooo glad I did!

The concert was great. Since I already have a couple of his CDs, I knew he had a fine voice and a way of presenting a song, but he also has such a casual, relaxed and comfortable stage presence. We met very briefly before the concert. He came down the aisle headed toward the back of the church. I was seated next to the aisle, and when we made eye contact, there was instant recognition on both parts. A handshake quickly morphed into a hug, and it's no exaggeration to say that I felt like I'd known him all my life.

He is just as open, friendly and easy to know as you'd imagine, and is kind and pleasant, with a great sense of humor. We went to lunch after the concert with some of his friends from the church, and had catfish and good conversation. What a great day! And I never even thought about getting sleepy.

Well, that's probably going to change pretty soon, though, so I think I'll get comfortable. Later, taters. --Romeena

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55863: Many hugs and prayers for Millie -
Thanks Rev. - you are the cats!
Ro - I am so jealous of you. . .so did you all talk about the porch when you all were together. What's the scoop?

Been a busy day!

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55864:
Hi Everyone, I am just doing a quick check in. Rest of family leaving tomorrow, so I hope to be back with you all later in the week. As her POA I have a lot to do yet. Thanks for all the kind wors and support.
You are all the cats!
Love, Steve MDC

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55865: You're welcome Steve. God bless you as you go about your duties as POA.

Romeena, I envy you. Glad you had a wonderful time with REV. How neat. I believe God wanted to bless you real good after all you have been through these past weeks.

Thanks, New Neighbor, for those encouraging words about Sean. I am very thankful that he talks to me about such things.

It's been a good day today. Remember I told you all that I had volunteered to help the youth with a music program (they wanted to start a praise band)? Well, I stepped out of my comfort zone to do it but I really didn't know HOW to do it! I guess the Lord had it all under control because a young couple joined the church today and they were very active in the youth group at their previous church AND the guy actually wrote a grammy award winning song (he actually walked the red carpet in 2005). He is a great musician and used to open for some famous country singers. He told us he wants to serve the youth by helping start a youth worship band if they are interested!! "IF INTERESTED??!!"...haha...I just about knocked the guy down to ask him he wanted to help our youth with it and he said YES! Yippee!! I also signed him up already to sing at our Youth fundraiser in November (killed 2 birds with one stone). It's only September and I already have all the acts I need for the fundraiser in November...Wow, I'm amazed.

Better go get Erin out of the tub and ready for bed...

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55866: Yep, we did talk about the porch some - got a couple of puzzled looks from others at the table, but they caught on. I just don't know when I've enjoyed anything as much as I did meeting Rev. To call him a nice guy is definitely an understatement. He's one of the good guys, for sure. Gentle, soft-spoken, out-spoken about the Lord and his faith, not a trace of stuffiness, not at all impressed with himself - well, he's just a really terrific guy. I wish everyone could have the same gift I received today. --Romeena

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55867: Hey, Boo, that's great about the youth worship band leaders. I'd say the Lord's fingerprints are all over that situation. --Romeena

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55868: Boo, he was headed for Victoria when he left here. Not sure when his concert is, but I know it's not tonight. Isn't that about 50 miles from you? Might be do-able.... --Romeena

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55869: Yes, Victoria is do-able, depending on what night it is going to be. If you are reading this REV, when will you be in Victoria and where? Of course, you wouldn't know me if you saw me since I don't have a picture on Ro's site but I would enjoy the concert.

Yes Ro, I can just see the Lord answering prayer left and right in that youth department! Wow, it's an exciting time in our church.

Better think about hitting the sheets. Mondays are always busy with chores. Have a good night, Mayberry...

Boo

September 16, 2007 - Msg 55870: Still around listening, just did my prayers on my knees tonight and all here are included. As I was concluding to the Amen, my eighteen year old girl (Kitty) gave me a kiss with her rough tongue...she is aware of God in our presence.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55871: Glad you had a nice time with the Rev, Ro. Or Rop. ;)

That's neat how things came together for your youth group, Boo. God is great, isn't He?!

Btw Boo, sorry, didn't mean to creep you out with the ostrich. :) I just remember it cracking me up when I first saw that thing. It was a Christmas gift for Kai from one of her aunts on my wife's side. She's a pretty interesting gal, let me tell you. And funny! So leave it to her to find something like that.

Glad you all liked the fountain video. I don't know if you can tell from the video just how high those jets of water shot up in the air at times, but it was high.
And you're right, Ro. We did see a lot of good stuff, like the "Phantom" play at the Venetian(which luckily happened to be across the street from where we were staying). Mrs. Wiley(or anyone else), if you do go there I would highly recommend you see that also. That play had me riveted right from the beginning, when the pieces of this huge chandelier start flying around the theatre like ufo's, and then come together to form a whole chandelier. It was pretty amazing. And that's from someone who isn't into plays that much. Especially musicals.
There was one scene I didn't really care for. I supposed since it was Vegas they wanted a more risque scene in there. But it was short and wasn't really obscene or anything.

Also went to Madame Tussaud's wax museum. That was pretty interesting, also. Though some of the people didn't really look like their real counterparts. And they didn't have anyone from TAGS!

One of the other free attractions(like the fountains, and the volcano) we saw, I did "pass on by", Ro, after I saw what it was all about.
It was the "pirate adventure" show that they put on on a mockup of a pirate ship outside of Treasure Island hotel.
When I saw the scantily-clad pirate girls gyrating onto the ship 2 minutes into the "show", I didn't have a good feeling about it, and then I heard the innuendo of the "siren lady" as the pirate "hero" tried to board the ship, and I turned to my wife and said, "Ok, I've seen enough. I'll wait down the street." And then proceeded to push my way through the tightly packed crowd on the sidewalk. Somehow, I made it out, and then saw my wife and her co-worker, who was accompanying us on our journeys that night - ok, tagging along -, following me out. I told them if I had known it was going to be a smut show, I wouldn't have waited so long to see it.

Yeah, I wasn't having a very good night(our last night there) to begin with, and that disgusting "show" was the tip of the iceberg. But, it was after that, and after her co-worker went back to her room, that we went to the Bellagio and saw those dancing waters, and that "God Bless The USA" one was the first one we saw, so that made me feel a little better about the whole thing and kinda made up, a little, for the first part of the night.

Anyway, I better get to bed as I have to take Kai to school tomorrow.
I don't know why I said "have to", because I love it! :) We park at my parent's house, which is not far from the schools, and we walk from there.

Have a good night everyone.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55872: Welcome home, Sterling. Glad you survived Las Vegas. Prayers for MDC for the passing of his mama. May she rest in peace. Prayers for Millie and for Mrs. Asa. Sure hope they can find her an effective medication soon. My son keeps coming home from work every once in awhile vomiting for no apparent reason. I'm getting worried that it is somehow caused by the acutane he took (which he's been off of since July). Please add him to the prayer list, OK? Mama's worried.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55873: Prayers for your son, Charlotte. I am up and wide awake at 2:30am so I will pray for him (and you).

Sterling, I guess the ostrich is kind of funny. I just get the creeps over certain things. Puppets and dolls do that to me. When I was a little girl, we lived in this big, old 2 story house and I had a playroom upstairs. One night I dreamt that all the dolls in the playroom came to life and came after me! I haven't been normal since....hehe. Sounds ridiculous but it's true. I must have been 4 or 5 at the time but I never forgot it, and if there was ever really a haunted house, that house was one of them. I think my mom's best day was the day we moved out of it.

Well, guess I'll say some prayers and try to go back to sleep for awhile.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55874: Good Morning, hope all are doing well this morning.AUH2O, we had 31 degrees on Saturday, today it's already 60 at 6:30 am and it's supposed to be 86 for the high. September 17, 2007 - Msg 55875: Good Morning porch family. Cool this morning and expected to be in the low 80's this week. fall is definitely in the air. Busy week end and hopefully a busy work week. School activities and homework is keeping my family busy. Lets have: french toast with sausages and bacon today, scrambled eggs, apple butter, grape or strawberry jelly, coffee, tea and orange juice.
kinda hungry this morning. Prayers and thoughts for everyone today. Have a blessed day. Big Maude

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55876: Good morning everyone. It was a beautiful weekend here, and I hope it was where you are, too. It's supposed to top out at 70 today but by later in the week be back into the 80s (shucks!).

ROMEENA: That's great that you had a chance to see the REV in action. I've always imagined he's as you described. A regular Keevey Hazelton!

BOO: Praise the Lord that Sean's fortunes are looking up. He does work in mysterious ways, doesn't He? Regarding your puppet-dream story, I have a similar aversion to ventriloquist dummies. I had a "Howdy Doody" when I was a kid, and loved playing with it, until I saw trailers for the movie "Magic" on tv. That ended that.

STERLING: I want to check out your video. I'll try and do it this afternoon.

CHARLOTTE: Prayers for your son.

MAUDE" Yum!

I'll stop back later and set. Prayers for our friend MILLIE and everyone who needs them today.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55878: STERLING: just caught your videos. I liked the "Dancing Ostrich" but loved "Buddy Takes His Picture Ever Day for a Year." That's my sense of humor.

Hey there, MD.

By the way, we haven't heard from LUCY in a quite a while. Hope everything is okay.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55879: Pretty slow day on the porch. Well, I suppose I'll lunch alone today. Maybe take a nap, go to Thelma Lou's, yep that's what I'm gonna do...

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55880: Hey Y'all! Wanted to extend an invitation to "visit" my hometown tonight-At 10pm EST on the Travel Channel they'll be featuring South Carolina cuisine. The show is "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" & he will highlight a BBQ place that is 4 miles from me.Talk about GOOD eatin! Prayers for your son,Charlotte.Hope he gets to feeling better ASAP.

I was thinking about Lucy too,Me-They.Wonder how she's doing?

Glad to hear all the positive things happening with Sean,Boo! I'll keep praying.

Ro,I am happy you & Rev. got to meet! Hopefully, I'm gonna catch him around here (SC) one of these days!

Not to start a moulage, but could it be that after all these years, justice is finally prevailing where a certain former football player is concerned? I hope they can build a case that will stick this time. That smug, arrogant man -ooh! Enough said.

Y'all have a good day and remember,10pm on the Travel Channel- Tonight!

possum under a rock

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55881: Darn, I don't get the travel channel, Possum! Oh well.

This is a slow Monday. I have been kind of doing chores at a leisurely pace today...only one load of laundry. I needed a rest after the hectic weekend.

M-T, I hear you about that dummy thing...scary. You know, I have a good friend that has a real fear of wooden dutch shoes, clowns and those biscuits in a can (because they can kind of explode on you when you are taking off the wrapper). One time her husband told her, "I hope when you are in a dark alley someday, you don't run into a clog-wearing clown with a can of biscuits!"...haha I thought that was pretty funny, she didn't.

Boo

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55882: People's irrational fears - amazing. Dutch wooden shoes? Why?? I can sort of understand people being afraid of clowns, some of the painted faces are a bit scary, and maybe it's the knowledge that there's another face behind the one you can see, but shoes? Of all things! I can't think of anything that I'm afraid of, not that kind of fear. I have a dread of fire, and when my children were small I used to wake up in the night and go around the house sniffing for smoke, but that's as far as it went. Now, with just myself and (usually) a canine companion to be concerned about, I just have smoke alarms, which everyone should have, and a simple exit plan from my bedroom - out the window! My Brinks intrusion alarm includes a smoke/heat alarm, so I really don't worry much about fire anymore. I'm not too fond of spiders, but am not terrified of them.

Tom, thanks for the emails. Both are very nice. Thanks for sharing. --Romeena

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55883: I have the fire thing, too, ROMEENA, but medicine helps :).

As far as shoes goes, gimme a wooden clog over a flip-flop any day. Fear of toes is what I have...

Me-They

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55884: OH NO!!!...NOT AGAIN WITH THE FEET!!...there's medicine for that, too, Me-They.

Ro, I don't have a fire fear but I do check on my kids in the middle of the night almost every night. Just feel compelled to look in and make sure they are secure and breathing....weird.

Boo

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55885:

Boo! I thought I was the only person in the world who was scared of canned biscuits! My kids laugh at me cringing as I peel off the label. I know what to expect, but I jump out of my skin every time. LOL Not scared of those other things, though. When I was little, my parents bought me some wooden clogs when we were in Holland. I squeezed my feet into them until I was around 7, then the day came when they didn't fit at all. Instead of keeping them as souvenirs, my mom threw them out! Unlike my brother and me, she's oddly unsentimental. (Y'all remember that about my mother. :-)

Possum, I'll be watching for your barbeque place tonight! I love me some Travel Channel.

Prayers for Millie, and all needing them.

.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55886: Oh, to explain, Ro, if I remember correctly, my friend's wooden shoe fear came from a horror movie she saw as a child in which the bad leprechaun (or whatever it was) word wooden shoes....I guess you could hear him clacking down the hallway when he came for you or something.

September 17, 2007 - Msg 55887:
