September 02, 2006 - Msg 44997: Good morning, all! Here's a little story for you:
__________________
A couple go for a meal at a Chinese restaurant and order the "Chicken Surprise." The waiter brings the meal, served in a lidded cast iron pot.

Just as the wife is about to serve herself, the lid of the pot rises slightly and she briefly sees two beady little eyes looking around before the lid slams back down.

"Good grief, did you see that?" she asks her husband.

He hasn't, so she asks him to look in the pot. He reaches for it and again the lid rises, and he sees two little eyes looking around before it slams down.

Rather perturbed, he calls the waiter over, explains what is happening, and demands an explanation.

"Please sir," says the waiter, "what you order?"

The husband replies, "Chicken Surprise."

You're going to love this one.......

Ah... so sorry," says the waiter, "I bring you Peeking Duck.

September 03, 2006 - Msg 45009: To Romeena, that was a very funny joke you posted in Msg 44997. Here are my contributions to help people here laugh:
-------------------------------------------------
A drunk is stumbling through the woods when he comes upon a preacher baptizing people in the river. The preacher asks the drunk, "Are you ready to find Jesus?"
The drunk answers, "Yes, I am."
So the preacher grabs him and dunks him in the water.
He pulls him up and asks the drunk, "Brother have you found Jesus?"
The drunk replies, "No, I haven't found Jesus."
The preacher, shocked at the answer, dunks him into the water again for a little longer.
He pulls him out of the water, and again asks, "Have you found Jesus my brother?"
The drunk again answers, "No, I haven't found Jesus."
By this time the preacher is at his wit's end, and dunks the drunk in the water again holding him underwater for 30 seconds before pulling him up. The preacher again asks the drunk, "For the love of God, have you found Jesus?"
The drunk wipes his eyes and catches his breath and says to the preacher, "Are you sure this is where he fell in?"
------------------------------------------------
An armless man entered a bar, ordered a drink, and asked the bartender, "Would you please get the money out of my wallet?"
Since he was armless, the bartender obliged.
He then asked the bartender, "Would you please tip the glass to my lips so I can drink my drink?"
Again the bartender obliged.
Then he asked the bartender, "Where's the restroom?"
The bartender quickly replied, "Across the street at the gas station!"

A blonde female was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a blonde female police officer.
The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug through her purse but was having trouble finding it.
"What does it look like?" she finally asked.
The policewoman replied, "It's square shaped and it has your picture on it."
The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. "Here it is," she said.
The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, "Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop."

September 03, 2006 - Msg 45019: Hi, I'm back. Thanks for all the annivesary wishes and prayers. We had a wonderful time. It was amazing how often things reminded me of all of you, like when I got to the motel, looked at the bedspread and realized that I forgot my Lysol spray, I thought of Me-They and when I saw some Boer Goats I thought of Homemaker (and when I got dizzy for a minute). I thought of Warren when I was in WalMart and saw the TAGS 7th season DVDs. I also thought of Romeena when I went to a county fair and remembered the Christmas fair we attended together in Fredricksburg. Seems like something was always reminding me of each of you guys. The fair was not greatn just too hot to enjoy..it was 95 degrees at 6pm...and none of Clara Edward's pickles to be found! The area we were in was started by German immigrants and we saw some really beautiful homesteads and farms, lots of lovely cows, donkeys and just acres and acres of rolling land and giant oak trees. We stopped at several second-hand shops but didn't find any great treasures that we needed to buy.

Homemaker, wanted to tell you that after we left town, the first stop we made, I turned my head and got suddenly very dizzy and just felt kind of funny and nauseous for about an hour. It got better but I still have felt nauseous off and on all weekend. I am wondering if it's an inner ear thing. Did you ever find out what was causing your dizziness?

Better go, getting tired but wanted to check in. Have a great evening and Labor day tomorrow!

September 04, 2006 - Msg 45030: There are just some moments in this life when we cannot help but ask "Why, Lord?" This is one of those times. As an avid fan of Steve Irwin, my heart is broken by the news of his sudden and untimely death. I accept that God has His reasons and His purposes, but it's hard to understand why a man like Steve - devoted husband and father, in addition to being an icon in the world of wildlife conservation - should die in such a freakish accident, while the likes of, say, Ozzie Osbourne continue to exist, a pitiful pimple on the face of humanity.

Steve was an enthusiastic and charismatic advocate for wildlife and the conservation thereof, and his ebullient antics on his TV show were entertaining as well as enlightening. His storybook marriage to Terri, and the joy he shared with the world at the birth of his children was inspirational and heartwarming.

My heart is heavy today, and though I never met the man and likely never would have, still I feel as though I've lost a friend. May he rest in peace. --Romeena

September 04, 2006 - Msg 45034: I know what you mean, Romeena. I was in a state of shock when I saw the news about Steve Irwin. I was just about to go to bed when I saw the little scrolling news thing at the bottom of one of the channels. I couldn't believe it. So I had to stay up and I kept switching to other news stations to see if they had anything on it, because no one was doing a news story on it at the time, just the news scroller.
I've admired Steve for a long time. Heck, I even dreamed I met him once. I was always amazed at his uncanny ability to "read" what animals were going to do, almost like he had a sixth sense where animals were concerned. That ability also allowed him to handle animals with great gentleness, and even calm down animals that got a bit agitated.
And the way he held snakes. I had never seen anyone hold snakes, no matter how venomous they were, without grasping the snake's neck in a death-grip until Steve came along, and would hold them by the body, gently. Only his skill and his ability, along with the love he had for them, allowed him to do things like that.

A sad day.

September 04, 2006 - Msg 45039: Hey everybody, wanted to check in. So sad about Steve Irwin..he seemed like such a sweet person and there was just something about him, he was very special. I heard someone say on CNN, "At least he died doing what he loved to do". There is something to be said for that. Prayers for his dear, young family.

We had some family over today and bar-b-qued some chickens, made beans with Cilantro, potato salad and some really good sweet corn. I even made some homemade lemonade. Wish you could have all been here to share it with us.

Romeena, you sure were rough on Ozzie! hehe I think the poor guy has about three brain cells left, so I try to keep that in consideration..

Prayers for you little one's first day of Kindergarten, Idelle. Hope she loves it.

KYGirl, how is your son who is in the military?

Hope you feel better soon, Possum. I wish I could send you some of chicken soup...it's real good.

This morning I decided to have my own TAGS marathon before the family arrived and I started watching season one again. I noticed something I wanted to tell you about to see if anyone else ever noticed it. In the episode with Jim Lindsay and Bobby Fleet and the band with a beat, when Andy and Barney are outside of the diner and decide that Bobby Fleet's car is taking up two parking spaces, Barney grins real big, and you can see that he is missing a tooth. It is one of his upper molars on his left side. No kidding.

Well, better got dress Erin, she just wandered out of the shower!

I promise I haven't ran off! We've been super busy lately. We're all still adjusting to Nicholas moving in with us. Some days are good and some days I understand why his Mom said she loved him but doesn't like him. He has serious violent anger issues. I've called the church and we're getting him counseling, but I think we'll put us all in there. Bryson's beside himself becuase Nicholas keeps picking on him. Anyway, between spending 3 hours on the road with carpools, leading a bible study, and all of my cooking and cleaning I barely have time to do anything! So, y'all are always on my mind and don't forget about me!
Dixie- You're right to give it to God. You'll know if a fella's the right one.
Rev- Nice sweeping your doin'. Did y'all get anything from the hurricane?
Asa- You're one funny goat.
Mavis- How's your son doing since he graduated from high school? Is he going to college?
Me-They- Does Chad and Nora like school? What do they think of Veda (sp)?
Boo- How's Sean? I was watching season 1 tonight too with the boys. I didn't notice the tooth, but I'll look in a bit. Thanks for pointing that out.
Sterling- I too agree that its sad that Steve Irwin expired.
Poor Horatio- I hope you get paid for all of your computer knowledge.
BWB- Haven't we been calm lately, or did I miss something big?
DWF- That's great you got season 7 already. I only own season 4, but my library has the 1st. I'm hoping to get more soon.
Romeena- Did you enjoy your visit with your grandson? How many grandchildren do you have?
Colt- Mayoring business keeping ya occupied?
KyGirl- I'm originally from near Louisville. I'm always proud to tell people that I was born and bread in the Commonwealth. What area do you reside?
Mary Wiggins- How's John?
Charlotte- I still would like to know the name of your books. If ya don't mind that is. I understand if you do.
MDC- Is it cooling off yet?
Idelle- Are ya sure that you want to make not having children permanent? Or have you already? The last time I read that was your topic. This is something I'm trying to deal with. The bible said that the Lord opens your womb. Personally, I've lost 4 including a 35 week stillbirth, and I wonder how long I should continue. But, is it fair to take the Lord's work into my own hands. Anyway, I was just wondering what you decided. If you know me you'd know that I'm about the least judgemental person on the block, but I thought if you gave me your reasonings it would help me figure out my answer. BTW- Hubby doesn't want anymore, but he doesn't want to make it permanent.
One last question for everyone. Would it be devastating to a 8 year old boy to take away his best and only friend? Let me explain. Bryson said his first curse word. He claims he heard it from Nicholas and I'm not sure. We have all heard his best friend curse and the best friend told Nicholas that he knows how to look up dirty pictures on the internet. I don't know how to handle this because Bryson will not socialize with any other children. Plus, he's had a hard time with Michaela leaving and Nicholas moving in and being very difficult to live with. Any help would be wonderful.
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy Matthews

Hey Folks,

It's late (for me) just trying to catch some of the Orioles vs Angels tonight. Boy, that Jared Weaver is looking good.

Msg 45041- I know Romeena does not need me to speak for her, far from, but I'm pretty sure she was not speaking for God. I do agree that God loves all of us, even those who act as pitiful pimples on the face of humanity.

Well, Jared is about to take the mound so I'll see y'all tomorrow.
God Bless,

September 04, 2006 - Msg 45045: Sure sounds like you have your hands full, Lucy. I feel for ya. I don't have alot of wisdom to share on raising children but I did have a similar experience with Sean not long ago. I think if I were you, I might look at the parents of Bryson's friend. Are they good and decent people who would want to know that their child can ,"look up dirty pictures on the internet"? I would find a way to distance Bryson and only allow him to play with the little boy at my house while I was supervising, and in the mean time I would talk to the child's parents about what Bryson is telling you. In my situation, the parents were friends and I thought they were decent folks, found out they were not afterall so Sean is not allowed in their home or to spend time with the child. I know it hurts but I have to do what I believe is best for my son. I know I can't protect him from everything in this world but sometimes I have to intervene. In the situation with Sean, he was shown pornography by his friend in his friend's home. This was a family who went to church with us and I was very upset about it when I found out. I won't let it happen again. As it turned out, later in this same family, the dad was arrested for selling stolen weapons on the internet. Not people of character but I never knew it before all this happened and I had known them and went to church with them for years. We even spent alot of holidays together. Pretty sad, really.

Well, it's getting late and I am worn out! Talk to everybody tomorrow.

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45049: Morning Porch. Hope y'all had a nice Labor day.

Lucy, I do think Boo has offered some great advice about talking with the boys parents. If they are good and decent people they will be grateful to know what your telling them and will deal with it. If not, then I would think you may have to intercede. It would be good if you could play a positive roll for the friend, but it sounds like you have a full plate already. I just know who our children choose to associate with can have a great influence on them, especially at that age. Bryson could be a good influence for him, but it could work the other way too, so be careful.

Wonder where Charlotte and Maude have been?

Possum, hope you get feeling better fast.

Have a great day everyone.

Asa

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45050: Morning ASA, I think you have some good advice there. Just the other day I heard (I think it was our friend Chuck Swindoll) someone say, "I have often seen white gloves turn black from dirt but never have I seen dirt turn white from white gloves", make sense? Of course, that doesn't apply in all situations, especially with kids but I thought it was something to think about.

Gotta get the kids ready for school...be back later.

Hope Me-They will be around to talk about his weekend.

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45051: Right here I am!

Good morning everyone! It’s (still) raining here, though we did get a reprieve on Sunday. Seems like we went from parched to mildewed. The grass is finally starting to recover. The weeds started growing the minute it started raining. Sometimes I’m tempted to just go with “survival of the fittest” when it comes to my lawn; it’d be a lot easier.

LUCY: Nora is enjoying first grade, though not getting up early (especially on gray, rainy days like today). She loves her teacher, who seems like a very nice, young Christian woman. This morning is Chad’s first day of preschool. He wanted to go but didn’t want me to leave. He was really clingy, but I managed to slip out without him crying. I think the trick is not to be firm but reassuring when you leave.

I agree with advice given to you by others regarding Bryson’s friend. I think because this boy is his only friend is even more reason to intervene. After all, if the only peer influence Bryson is getting is a bad one, that’s a pretty strong current for a kid to swim against. No, one bad friend is one friend too many. As parents, though it is difficult, we cannot compromise our knowledge of the right thing just to put a temporary smile on our kid’s faces. Of course we want our kids to be happy, but eternal joy trumps fleeting happiness every time. Being a parent can be heartbreaking, but for each heartbreak you endure for Bryson’s good you can count on a blessing for him later.

So sad to hear about Steve Irwin. His poor family. God’s plan is a mystery to me; I’m just glad He has a great one that all works out in the end.

Sorry I missed KY GIRL day. Shout out to you and yours! I’m glad that your son is doing well.

POSSUM: Try some chicken soup. Or maybe some of those little ten-cent pills. They worked miracles for Emma Watson.

BOO: I'm not sure if I like the fact that gross hotel bedding reminds you of me.

Well, I gotta run and earn my paycheck but I will stop back later. I’m dealing with a situation with my aunt that will be tying up my week. I’ll tell y’all about it when I have a chance.

Hey to IDELLE, ROMEENA, MAVIS, ASA, SPOT (enjoy your trip, buddy!), HORATIO, and the rest of you good people. Yeah, where is MILLIE and MAUDE (sounds like a movie, don’t it?)?

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45053: Good morning, all. Thanks, Auh20, I think you're about the only one who "got" what I said about Ozzie Osbourne. I don't really know how he got singled out. I guess I was just thinking of Steve and the good he's done, and searching for an example from the total opposite end of the spectrum, and Ozzie came to mind. Hmmm. I think that says something. Anyway, truly, God loves us all, regardless of how we behave. Sometimes our behavior grieves Him, but He loves us anyway. If those who feel I was "judging" Ozzie would look back in the archives, you'd find a rather lengthy passage from me, regarding the fact that God doesn't see individual sins, or rank one as worse than the other, He only sees the condition of sin. It was His love and His desire for our redemption that brought about the death of His son.

Now, with that clarified (I hope) let me throw this out for your consideration. We all judge others, every day. Yep, all of us. We'd better! If we don't, our kids will be viewing pornography with their friends, and people who we feel would bring heartache will be welcomed into our clubs and will likely do harm. It might be called being judgmental by some. God called it a spirit of discernment, and He encouraged it. It should not be a mean-spirited thing, and anyone who wants to straighten up and act like somebody should be given the opportunity to do so. Meantime, I think if I had to decide whether to let my grandchildren go camping with Steve Irwin and his family, or do a sleepover with the Osbournes, the decision wouldn't be difficult. If that makes me judgmental, then so be it. Ol' Ozzie didn't start out life with just three brain cells, but he fried them by the millions by his actions, and now he lives with the consequences. "Therefore, whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap."

OK, that's my piece. Who's next? --Romeena

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45054: ROMEENA: People often assume the "don't judge" command of the Bible means we shouldn't judge other's actions. In fact, in context, the passage refers to the fact that we must not judge other's souls. Only God can do that. You're right, though; we must use discernment to judge right deeds from sin, threats from comforts. And it must always be done in love, which is rather difficult. But we must never assume to know a man's (or woman's) soul, or judge it. When we do that (and we all do that), we should pull the log out of our own eye.

As far as Ozzy goes, are you sure he's stil alive? I haven't seen any real signs of life there.

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45055: FYI to all you parents and others interested...

I am listening to "The Diane Rehm" show on NPR and her guest is an author/expert (I have forgotten his name already) talking about homework. It's an intriguing discussion. His position is that homework is not really beneficial to learning and there's no science that says otherwise. Catch it in repeats or online. The guest just wrote a book about it; I'll try and get the name.

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45056: Afternoon Porch,
Big Maude/Spot/Millie-What's for lunch? I'm starving!
Boo, Asa, and Me-They- Thank you for your comments. I think I will try to make sure they play only at our house and if they go outside that I'm with them. Bryson's friends parents are "seedy" characters. They are from Brazil and do not speak English very well, but Bryson has said things like the Dad plays violent games on his PSP 2 and such. I'll just have to monitor the situation.
Me-They- I like your Ozzy comment about the signs of life.
Romeena- Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm really curious what you think. If a person's actions are a reflection of their heart and we're judging their actions, aren't we judging their hearts too?
Possum- I didn't know you were feeling bad. Hope ya feel better right quick.
KyGirl- My folks live in Mt. Washington, but I have family in Bardstown, Lawrenceburg, and Taylorsville. I take it your proud to be from Ky also.
I was in Family Christian Bookstore this mornin' and saw bible studies for The Beverly Hillbillies and Bonanza by the writers of TAGS bible study. Isn't that neat?
Hey to all! I have a ton of laundry to do before I pick up the boys. Have a wonderful Mayberry day!
Blessings to you and yours,

September 05, 2006 - Msg 45057: Gosh Romeena, I feel like I just got a lecture over a statement that was only made in jest. Sorry if I upset you my friend. I wasn't trying to reprimand you or anything.

"...eternal joy trumps fleeting happiness every time."...what an awesome statement, Me-They. So true. I wanted to tell you all about something I read on Charles Stanley's website that blew me away. It is about the Christians in Southern Africa (in the Sudan). I wish everyone in America could read it. If you go to InTouch.org or look up Charles Stanley and find his website, you can read the article on the sight. Just scroll toward the bottom of the home page to the article called The Paradox of Praise. It will change your life. I can't stop thinking about it and it was a real challenge that made me take a good look at my own life as an American. Please take the time to look at it if you possibly can.

Lucy, that's tough that the parents can't speak much English. What about inviting them to church? It sounds like they might just need Jesus in their lives. Hope you have a good day, take care of yourself.

Better go,
Boo
