Alot of awsome music taste's here! Great Variety! On the Hard Rock subject, I really don't like Heavy Metal and find it disgusting, but I like heavy stuff when it comes to "Nirvana", "Pearl Jam" & "Black Sabbath", you know what I mean?

Anyway's. MDC, I watched "My Blonde Haired Brunette" last night. Was it ever funny! Mary Tyler Moore's crying scene's killed me! Great stuff! Buddy and Sally were top notch to! I'll tell you when Im going to watch the next episode.

On the marrige thing, I think everything's been said, so I won't add anymore to that.

I am doing the face of the building with markers on paper, and making it look just like Mayberry. So far, I've gotten all the way down Main St., and to The Pet shop.(I got all of the buildings from various shows.) What is next to the pet shop???

Any fun, exciting TAGS related fan club ideas for me???

I hope to have my virtual Mayberry complete by our next meeting on the 25th, so back to work.

Let me know if you have any suggestions, or know the buildings on Main, on the Courthouse side, past the pet shop!!!

Mrs Wiley-Great to hear from you.

Poor Horatio-I was just perusing the archives a bit and found your link to "The Dash" nice, very nice. I watched it twice then put it in my favorites.

Boo-I also just read your post about Linda and Robert, wonderful. Maybe, you could name your church "The Little Church that Could." However, everything being relative, 150 each Sunday would be a pretty good size church around these parts.

Spot-Yes! Whole Milk! Is it Christmas?

Just curious but all the music talk has me wondering, are there any Lyle Lovett fans on the porch?

August 16, 2006 - Msg 44268: Evenin' Porch,
I haven't been on b/c of chaos (Thanks for asking MDC). Nicholas is now living with us hopefully permenantly. The school called us the on Tuesday and said that Nicholas said he has been beaten for years by his Mom. They called DFCS & the police. There is now an investigation and a pending court case. Michaela doesn't want to live with us, so instead she's choosing to live with her drug addicted, grand mal seizure having, child abusing Mother. So, we've been dealing with the school, cops, and I've been busy trying to get him into our school and involved in activities here. He's happy to be here, but desperately misses Michaela. He's been crying alot, but hubby said that if he wants to go back then its okay he was saying no repeatedly. The sad thing is that he was afraid his Mom would go to jail, so even though she called him names daily, gave him 2 bloody noses, and hit him with a belt in the head, he thought he was protecting her. He said when he got into her car from the airport on Saturdy he snapped. He smelled the pot and saw her take 4 oxycontin and said he couldn't deal with it any longer. We're really proud of him. I guess what I'm saying is we need y'alls prayers. I'll keep you up to date as I can. Tomorrow I have to go to Birmingham for my ankle so I'll try and check in soon. Hope all are well. Y'all are always on my mind.
Blessings,
~Lucy

Off to read the archives, but I did want to tell Ace I went to school with Toby McKeehan of DCTalk/TobyMac! He was always such a funny guy, a year or 2 behind me, but we were on the yearbook together & also all the sporting events. I was also a cheerleader so I was at all the games. Hard to think it was 26 years ago that I graduated! The school we went to is still there Bethelem Baptist Christian Academy. Alot bigger now than it was then. Off to read the archives, now that everyone knows I'm no spring chicken aymore haha

August 16, 2006 - Msg 44270: Prayers for you Colt & thanks friends for the prayers for Judy, talked to her daughter tonight, she is still the same, in an induced coma to hopefully bring the swelling down in her brain, she suffered massive head trauma. It is really bothering me & I tell you the truth, brings back LOTS of memories of my dear Mother & what we went through with her, the induced coma, the brain swelling.. I pray the outcome for Judy is not the same as my Mom's for her family's sake, but I also pray God's Will be done. Judy is one of my internet friends, I have never met her in person, but have talked to her on the phone. People can say what they want about these computers being bad, but between this beloved porch & my dog friends online, I think it's a great thing. Prays for you too Lucy!

August 16, 2006 - Msg 44271: Good evening, all. Just a quick run-through, have read the archives. BWB, please know that while I feel the same as Boo regarding the Bible's instructions regarding cohabitation prior to marriage, it goes a bit further than that, and I know Boo will agree. While God does call that behavior a sin, it is not the only thing that receives that distinction. God hates sin. He hated it enough to send His son to pay the penalty for us, so we wouldn't have to. However, here's the key. Again, God hates SIN. No specifics. That means that one sin is the same as another in God's eyes. Therefore, unless I can truthfully say that I'm sinless (and of course I can't) then I can't stand in judgment of anyone else's behavior. This is a tough truth to accept sometimes, but it's true nevertheless.

Lucy, bless your little heart. Hang in there, honey, at least you got one of them out of the bad situation. I have a feeling that in time you'll get them both.

Millie, prayers continue for you. Keep being strong, and keep in touch. We love you.

Have a wonderful day tomorrow, everyone. --Romeena

August 16, 2006 - Msg 44272: So sorry about your friend Judy, Mavis. I agree with you, I have surely been blessed by my friends here.

Lucy, wow, did you see this coming with Nicholas? Poor kid must have been through alot to finally snap and tell someone the truth. That is really hard for a child to do. Remember he will probably be having some grief and guilt feeling through all of this. I hope you will consider a good counselor for him. Hope all goes well with the ankle. Hang in there.

MDC, glad to hear you and the missus aren't in seperate beds yet! ha I thought you were probably kidding the way you adore Cecile.

To tell you the truth Auh2o, my church has really been lacking in attendance lately. Even with the miracles we have seen, there is an apathy that has settled over a large part of the congregation and it disturbs me. It's been going on for about 3 or 4 months now. Not sure why. We always have a revival in the spring every year that is attended by many in the church but this past spring, only a handful showed each night and I was sad about it. People get so busy with life these days that they don't have much time or enthusiasm for the things of God. It is a hard thing sometimes to not let things crowd out God in our lives, I guess we all have that struggle.

Prayers for Colt and his kidney. Lord bless him with health and peace.

Better go get the clothes out of the washer and into the dryer. I have decided until it gets cooler that I should be doing the laundry at night. The washer and dryer are in the garage so it is steamy during the day. Can't wait for cooler weather! Goodnight friends,

Boo

Boo

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44279: Good morning everyone. I wish you all could be here with me on this end of the porch to experience the absolutely beautiful day we are having here.

BOO and COLT: I have a different take on the diminishing church issue. (Imagine that, me with an opinion!) I think a number of churchs’ memberships are declining for several main reasons. First, there's affluence. Even the poorest in this country are rich by the standards of many on this planet. We’re quick to seek God when things are in the toilet, but many of us think a lot less about God and how much we need Him when things are going well. Second, in today’s society, many people want “feel good” messages that stress God’s love (there’s nothing wrong with that). The problem is that they don’t want to hear about having to conform or change to His will. They want to hear, “I’m okay, you’re okay.” So lots seek churches that “accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative” and churches that present the whole Truth are neglected. Third, Christians are allowing the culture to shape their relationship with God. We are turning our families into idols by placing our kids above Him. I can’t tell you the number of parents I know that miss services because of Sunday morning soccer, lacrosse or baseball games. Nearly every kids sports league in my area has Sunday games days, some in the morning. Parents don’t want to disappoint their kids by making them miss out (or not letting them participate), and I understand that feeling. But what kind of message are they sending? It’s that attending worship is less important than sports, or whatever else may pop up. And fourth, the big trend in churches today is to make the services “relevant” by catering to the tastes of all age and ethnic segments. But in the process, some of these innovations are cutting the ties that bind. By chucking tradition, ritual, and classic hymns—the very things that link us to the Church (big C)—we make it just another activity. So, anyway, that’s my take on the shrinking churches. It used to be that bad churches withered and died; sometimes it seems that nowadays it is the churches that are trying to do the right thing are suffering for it. Now, I step down from my soapbox and promise not to touch it again anytime soon (unless something really juicy pops up!)

My prayers go out to COLT, LUCY, MILLIE, POSSUM, and all that needs them. I’ll check back later.

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44282: Wow, Me-They, I think you are right-on in your opinions and I believe busyness has alot to do with it. In bible study at the church last night, we talked about the verses that teach that we should wait on God and how most Christians don't have the time and space to do that anymore...to many things on the calender. Our culture lends to that one. It's getting way out of hand. This thing about constant activities for kids is absolutely crazy. I agree that kids should have interests and activities to keep them occupied but alot of families go way overboard and there is no time for anything else. When I was a kid, there weren't any activities, ha! There were a handful of kids who were Girl/Boy scouts but that was it. Sports were limited to school. There was softball teams in the summer months with one weekly game. Nothing extra during the school year when kids were to concentrate on their school work and on being kids after school. I think part of the problem is that when I was a kid, it was safe to be a kid and roam the neighborhood with friends. We made our own activity, and FUN it was! These days, kids aren't safe to just ride their bikes all over town and go to just anyone's home. Pretty sad. Which reminds me, I sure hope they have found Jon Benet's killer. It is so disturbing to think of how her parent's were hunted by the media and to think that a pedophile could be an elementary school teacher. God help the children in this world. You know, they found this guy in Thailand, which is where there is so much s*x trafficing of children. Makes me want to scream my head off at somebody! Wish I could do more. What can we do to protect the children in the world?

Boo

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44283: Yeah, we had fun doing plenty of "nothing," too! We waved goodbye to mom in the morning (after chores, of course) and came home when we heard her calling us for dinner. I can still hear the various moms as they stood on their back porches yelling for their kids throughout the neighborhood. It was a call you had better answer quick. Too bad my kids can't experience the freedom (and fun) that we did then.

It does look as if they got the killer. Now maybe justice finally can be carried out. And, hopefully, we won't have to endure this case as it's dragged through the media for another ten years. I also feel for the Ramsey family. Such a horrible tragedy, then on top of it they are eyed with suspicion and forced to endure sensationalistic denegration from the media. Just goes to show why our very wise founders kept the part about presumed innocent until proved guilty.

Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people. The best we can do is trust that no matter what evil comes against us, the Lord is the victor.

I'll be glad to pick up the lunch tab, SPOT, but I'm letting Long John Silvers just pass on by. Remember to let a quarter for Olive.

APB for AFD, MILLIE and all you others!

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44284: Good afternoon, all. Me-They, ditto #44279. Well said.

Just got back to the condo, spent 2 1/2 hours on a waverunner (Seadoo) looking for dolphins. We never found any, and the sea was very choppy and rough, but it was fun. My son and DIL were on one waverunner, two teenage girls (DIL's niece and a friend) were on one, and I had one of my own. Those things will fly! We were up to 45 mph at times, could have gone faster if not for the rough water. Nearly beat me to death, but it was fun!

Well, gotta run. The family needs the table for lunch. --Romeena

Hello folks.
MeThey,Boo,Ro-there is a saying attributed to Plato, I believe, that is something like (paraphrasing)We must stand up for what is right even if it goes against the culture. And that was 1000's of years ago!
So many factors today are influencing families, the Church etc. One is the Media. MT touched on it, but there is also all the influences on the net. One wrong click and one is exposed to ads etc that are very influencial, which an ad is designed to do. Just checking my hotmail exposes me to many ads of a totally sinful nature, that are basically one click away. Ro, you made some good points too about sin. Sermon on the Mt sure doesnt mince any words on that subject.
Another phrase "Is the Church changing the world, or is the world changing the Church?" The Word says we are to be IN the world but not be OF the world. It is an everyday challenge! There are other things too. For example, department store used to be CLOSED on Sundays. Yes indeed. Sundays were a family together day from church in the AM to Taylorlike activities later.
Man, the wood on that soapbox has sure been hot lately! ha
Mavis- prayers continue, yes I have tried that site, but cant get it done, but I use a lot of public computers, like now, I am on lunch hour at work.
Boo- our washer/dryer is also in the garage and our metal garage door faces west! Like an oven in there all summer long! Hope your new house is getting a laundry room.
I watched the episode last light where Gloria visits from Syler City. Whew, talk about a moulage! ha I love Aunt Bee's line "she has Minnie's nose!" Also, on the dvd there is a great "lost scene" of Andy and Floyd talking while waiting for the bus! Funny stuff!
have a great day in the Lord.

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44288: I guess love really has kept them together, huh?

Well, y'all have a great weekend. I'm off tomorrow to get ready for Chad's (belated) birthday party. Both sides of the family are coming over for a picnic, and there's plenty to do to get ready. I don't want to leave too much to the Mrs. even though she has sprung back pretty amazingly.

Keep my wife in your prayers. Of course sleep is still an issue at this point, but she is also struggling to get Chad fully potty trained (which, as you parents with boys can attest, can be frustrating), and Nora is definitely ready to go back to school. So she has her hands full. On top of that, after our son she had a little post-partum depression for quite awhile. Nothing real major, but I am concerned. They say women who have had it are more likely to get it, and worse. She seems pretty darned good lately though considering shes got one on the arm, and two more at her feet and at each other's throat. Have I told y'all how special a wife and mother that she is lately?

Anyway, take care this weekend and remember to act like somebody!

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44294: Evening Porch. Spot I'm in agreement with Me-They I'll let the Long John Silvers slide on by, glad I missed lunch after all. Boo my sister is still wanting me to pay the bills even tho I have signed the house, the Pet store & everything in both over to her, in exchange for her signing my place over to me. I guess what bugs me the most is, instead of CALLING me to complain, she emails! Really sets me off to start with when I see an email from her that doesn't have FW: in front of it, cause I know what it is. I am so torn with what to do. If I continue to pay the bills to help her out & to keep her around to be my sister, I'm still being the one losing out in the end as far as the estate is concerned. If I don't pay the bills that are left, I've lost my sister. Mom's estate totaled $210,000 all together, there are loans on her house that my sister is living in that need to be paid, appx $67,000 worth, my place according to the tax assesment is worth $18,600 & the Blazer that was Mom's blue books at $5500. The way I have it figured, that leaves her with $118,900, yet she is going on about me trying to cheat her out of her share of the estate. How can I get her to understand I am not? Please pray for me to get through this without losing my sanity & slipping into another depression, I can feel it coming on now & I'm trying my best not to let it happen. Sorry to lay this all on you guys, but obviously, I trust you. Who else would I put my financial status out to? ;) Anyway, enough of the depressing stuff for now, my brain is tired from it all. See ya'll afterwhile.

To auh2o Msg 44266, glad to hear you enjoyed The Dash link. It is quite thought provoking, isn't it?
To Lucy Msg 44268, sounds like you had a messy situation to deal with. I congratulate Nicholas for his courage. I'm surprised at Michaela's decision. I pray things work out the best for everyone involved.
To Mavis Msg 44273, thanks but no thanks. I have a sister. And we have great relations since I have decided to swallow my pride whenever differences come up.
To Me-They Msg 44279, I enjoyed reading your thoughts about the diminishing attendance in churches today. They make sense and I agree with them.
To Boo Msg 44282, I also remember the good ole days when I was a kid. But guess what, the adults back then were saying the same thing "Remember the good ole days when we were kids?".
To homemaker Msg 44287, sounds like you need prayer more than your boss. You are on my prayer list.
To Tom Msg 44293. I did not know you had two brothers who served in Vietnam. I can only imagine how your mom felt about their safety being so far away. I myself volunteered for Vietnam combat duty.
To Mavis Msg 44294, I'm confused. I thought all the legal paperwork was complete and signed and it was a done deal? If that's true, then she can't demand new conditions now. If these conditions were not dealt with in the legal paperwork, then your lawyer is at fault. The only way you can get your sister to understand is to have a third disinterested party to go over the details with both of you.
To Boo Msg 44298, did you examine Sean's arm for contusions or discolorations? Ask him what was he doing when he first noticed the pain.
Finally, tonight (Thursday evening), Millie and I had a great chat session over at Sarah's.

from Poor Horatio

August 17, 2006 - Msg 44300: Poor Horatio it IS a done deal, legally, emotionally, it's still on-going. She is still my sister & I do love her, but I'm tired of pacifying her. I know telling her no, I am not paying anymore bills is going to cause her to not speak to me anymore, THAT is the part that hurts. Boo tried more than once since Mom passed away to get her to go with me to see or Preacher, she won't. Best get to bed, I'm drained tonight.
*Mavis

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44301: To Mavis Msg 443500, you present a tough situation since I'm not aware of all of the details.
You said your sister will not listen to a third party. Then ask her if she will compromise by sharing the outstanding bills.
If that does not work, then you have only two choices:
# 1 - You can swallow your pride and pay all the bills. But I suspect you will hate yourself for doing this. And everytime you see or communicate with your sister afterwards, you will be reminded of this.
# 2 - Take a firm stand and don't make any more payments. You indicate you risk having your sister stop speaking to you as a result.
As for which decision to choose, consider both the immediate and long-term after affects. Which decision could you live with? If your sister stops talking, will she mellow out over time (especially when she needs you for something)? If you fulfill her demands to pay all the bills, can you live with yourself knowing you gave in completely? And if your sister knows she can manipulate you in this manner, will she do it again in the future? These are questions you must answer to reach a decision.
Good luck.

Mavis, just curious...is your sister married?

Boo

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44304: SPOT, good for you about the garage/shop. Good luck with that. We met again with the guy doing the houseplans. I thought we were going to finish but I was wrong. Still things to finish. I am learning alot about patience.

Boo

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44305: I'm on my way Spot. Sounds good. I just built a 30x36 shop last year. Love it, just love it. Still getting it all set up. The cost of concrete here has gone sky high though Spot. I still need to pour the approach from the driveway to the shop door, about 12 yards.

Mavis, sorry your sister is being a turkey. Hope you can work things out before it destroys your relationship. It sounds to me like she is taking advantage of your good nature. Prayers that He will lead you to say and do the right things.

Hey to you Rev. You got any more tours planned?

Boo, I have an e-mail thing I need to send you. How could I get your e-mail a.d.? If you would rather not I understand, but this is funny and reminded me of you.

Ro, you be careful out there on that water. Sounds like you're having a good time though. Good on ya.

Hope you all have a good Friday and a great weekend.

Asa

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44306: Boo yes she is married & going through a nasty divorce with him right now too, taking him to court to make him sell their house & everything they have so she can get half of it. That is why I say she is being greedy. She won't come down on the price of Mom's house AT ALL & it has been on the market since Sept 05, we haven't even had ONE offer on it. I just feel like it would have been said & done if she wasn't trying to hold out to clear as much as possible out of it. I have been up most of the night worrying about what to do & still can't come up with anything that will make it work out for the best for both of us. She sent an email & asked me why everyone thinks she has so much money & can afford to pay all the bills. She drives a $40,000 Corvette, has both her kids listed as drivers on it (18 & 21 years old) goes to the tanning bed every day, gets her nails done every week & her hair done every other week. Eats out every night & hits the bars drinking every weekend. That is embarrassing, I have my clients telling me they saw her & "boy was she lit" She does have alot of bills, but most of them are her own fault, she pays the car payment, insurance & even buys the gas for my neice (the 18 yr old) pays for her tanning appts everyday, & her nails. My neice does work, but when I turned 18 Mom made me give her a certain amount out of my check to help with the bills. She has lived in Mom's house for the past year & let the cats & dogs tear the house up. She hasn't paid rent to the estate & I paid the insurance on it this year. I hate to not make this payment & then they foreclose & she has no where to go. But.....I just don't know. Gotta go to work, more later.
*Mavis

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44307: Forgot, my sister has 2 girls & a boy, she pays for everything the oldest (the boy) wants or needs & does the same for the youngest. The middle girl however has not gotten anything like that & has had to learn to make it on her own. She had problems with the middle girl when she was 16 & put her out of the house, rarely talks to or sees her anymore. The other 2 still live with her. Another situation I don't agree with, the way she has treated the kids. I have helped my other neice as much as I can, but I don't make as much money as my sister does, so it's not easy. Done with this for now....

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44308: Sure Asa, I don't post my address here because I got a bad email from doing that once. Romeena has it so I will email her and ask her to send it to you when she gets back. Will that be ok? Or, if you don't mind posting your email here, I will email mine to you. Let me know.

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44309: Mavis, sounds like your sister has some real issues there. You just keep doing the right thing and keep praying, but don't enable her. You can't solve her problems by throwing money at them, as the saying goes. We are going through a similar situation with one of Bruce's sisters. She was recently divorced and we blamed it all on her ex-husband, who is already married to someone else. It is becoming very clear that this sister has such huge problems that I don't know how her ex lasted as long as he did. She is absolutely impossible to deal with and refuses any professional help. Her oldest daughter had her committed about a year ago but they only put her on some meds and let her go. Of course she never continued the counseling and started abusing the meds. I have never in my life known a person so irrational and difficult. She is like a big, spoiled child. I love her and pray for her but it's impossible to help her. If you try, it always gets turned around on you. It is one big mess and the family has had to learn to let go. She is an adult and we can't bail her out of everything. She's got to find a way to make it on her own. I feel for you in dealing with your sister, she sounds alot like my sister in law. No clue when it comes to finances and hard work!

Better go face the day!

Boo

August 18, 2006 - Msg 44315: Afternoon Porch,
I'm sorry that I haven't sat in my rocker lately. Things have been so busy this week. Nicholas is doing well here. He's not as disruptive as he was this summer. He must have been so tense and upset and that's why he "sucked the sap" out of us. Hubby's at the school with him getting signed up for Monday. The poor things had so many changes in 1 week. Michaela is happy as a lamb alone with her Mom. When Nicholas said to her last night on the phone that he wishes she was in Georgia, she replied, "well that's too bad, isn't it?". I'm going to call on Monday to get the court date, police records, and notify the dept of motor vehicles (she had a grand mal seizure last week) to get the ball rolling in getting both kids for permanent custody.
Nathan would be 2 today. We are going to take flowers to the cemetary.
Bryson's adjusting better to school. He didn't like it at first, but now its a bit better. Some kids just transition better than others. He was crying on Wed. b/c he missed his 2nd grade teacher.
Needless to say, we've had quite a week. I'm praying that next week will be better.
Has anyone else's kids been to Awana?
Mavis- Can you call the companies that have the outstanding bills and give them your sister's info? Sounds like she's having a rough time and taking it out on you. You know why, b/c she can. She's your sister so she knows exactly what to say and do to get you riled up. Ignore her the best you can. That's nice of you to help her daughter. You have such a big heart!
Spot- Good luck with your garage. I bet Andy and Kelsey would enjoy playing up in the loft.
Big Maude- Have fun in Knoxville. Enjoy doing the hustle and the electric slide. Its like at weddings!
Rev- Is your daughter's college in SC? When does she graduate?
Poor Horatio- I really liked your advice for Mavis. You, Colt, and Romeena give the best advice!
Me-They- I was thinking of you today when I put on my sandals. Again, my hubby agrees with you. I still like a little color.
Hey to Boo, Colt, Tom, Asa, Homemaker, MDC, Millie, BWB, DWF, and everyone else. Have a great day!
Blessings,
~Lucy Matthews
