Hey Folks

Wow, discussing entitlements. I think that the truth of the matter is that, our system of Government was not developed to do much more than to protect our rights and protect our property. It is a very short list of accomplishment that our Government has when the topic is social engineering. I do agree with Me-They, I often feel like, what more could I have done. However, I have very little faith in our Government to do the right thing. I hold out little hope for "counsel of men."

Here is my imput on the situation. For the US to remain a soverign nation, we must FIRST gain control of our border. The continual "I'll go in and take what I can get" situation must stop. It is tapping our services to the brink. In order to help our own citizens, we must establish secure borders. We have had polititians come here out the wazoo, but now we really need some action. Hopefully the 6000 NG will eventually materialize. And if that dont work, we all may as well go up and alley and hollar fish!
DWF and BWB, I thought you guys established a time for 6:30 pm to chat on frappr. Ya need to get that settled soon, so the porch can get back to "havin' a sit-down and shootin' the breeze" as it says at the top! Thank you again and please get something set up so we dont get us a Punky Brewster board here! haha

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43238: MDC we had a date set up for Frapper, but it didn't work out. I really am deeply sorry about rappid post's and I feel very foolish and guilty. I am very sorry. It's just everytime we try to go to Frapper, BWB has something that come's up, or I have something that come's up, and the only way to find out what's wrong is asking on The Porch. Again though, Im very sorry, and what I said is no excuse.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43243: Can't say that I've been to New Mexico, Boo. I've been to old Mexico though. ;) I didn't care for it very much I must say.

Hey Warren and BWB, I was just thinking, have you guys ever thought about signing up with some sort of instant messenger service? It's free, and you just put each other on each other's list and you can get a little pop up dealy on your computer that'll tell you when the other one is ready to talk. Just a thought that that would be a way you could tell each other to go to Frappr. I'm not trying to keep you away from the porch or anything, but I just thought it could be a solution to waiting here for the other to answer.
Btw Warren, yes I am a big Gilligan's Island fan as well! I even quit track in school because it was cutting into my Gilligan's Island time when it was on after school. :)
MDC, thanks for your continued prayers. I think they are working, particularily because you probably won't be seeing too much of me as I have to use my parents computer to come here because ours has been disconnected BECAUSE the closing of our house went off without a hitch and we don't live there anymore! *clap*clap*
We are still working on the buying of our new house, unfortunately, but, fortunately, my brother is letting us stay in the house that HE is selling(which happens to be the house we lived in before - confused yet?) until we get this financing worked out. Whew!

Well, I better get going. We will be eating alot of take-out because I told my brother I would cook and mess up his kitchen. But that's fine with me. At least I don't have to cook. :)

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43244: Me-They, I'm not sure what part of my post you didn't agree with, could you clarify? Sounds like we are on the same page to me...thanks.

BWB and Warren, you guys crack me up. Remember to be patient and kind to one another.

Busy day! You know how it is when you come back from vacation....laundry, grocery shopping, clean out the frige....I just made a huge pot of chicken and dumplings for the family and, boy were they good!

MDC, yes it was a very nice area we were in. Most of New Mexico is dry and not very pleasant but when you drive up into those mountains it is paradise! I have had a hard time adjusting to the high humidity here since I returned. Yuck! My sister and I kept asking ourselves why we live in South Texas. Gotta live where you work, right?

Think I will kick back and take a break for a minute on the couch. Is anyone chatting anywhere tonight?

Boo

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43245: Evenin' Y'all. Had a couple nights of bad weather- t-storms,even some power outages. Spot,we could've used you on this side of the river!Ha! Missed being on the Porch.
I don't think I've congratulated AFD on the new baby! Congrats, AFD! Hope all's going great with Me-They's new bundle of joy as well.
I'm still hanging in there and again I thank everyone for their prayers. Boo,you are especially sweet-thank you friend. I go back to the cardiologist Friday for the results of the heart monitor and echo. I'll let y'all know what doc says.Hope it's not serious.
I am staying strong, trusting in the Lord. I know HE knows my heart and that I didn't cause all of this family mess. My sister did. Now she has my mom drinking whiskey!I even bet I know how it started. They actually had to move into the house with my mom for a few weeks(before they put her in the trailer) because their lease was up. I can just see them drinking and offering it to my mom. Now, I hear she has a large bottle of whiskey in her trailer and my daughter has seen her with a mixed drink. This lady is 74 years old, unsteady on her feet and prone to falls and is drinking on top of these meds (these are only the ones I actually KNOW of): oxycontin, percocet, prozac, sotolol. And she takes MUCH more than the required dosage of the pain meds! Here's the kicker-she's a retired R.N.! Has she completely lost it? This is not good at all,but there's nothing I can do. I'm not to go over there and she doesn't want to see me ever again. I have a birthday coming up on the 30th and I bet anything I won't hear from my own mother. My twisted sister really has a strong hold on her. It's a shame. But.. No weapon formed against me shall prosper!
Didn't mean to be so self-absorbed here. Sorry, this wasn't a very Mayberry-like conversation. It does help to vent at times though!
Ro, I got your e-mail,and I will help out with the project. Can't e-mail you back from that address-my e-mail will come in,but I can't respond or send! Think I'll set up a new e-mail address soon.I can't figure out the problem with my Yahoo account.Wanted you to know I'm with you on the help-a-friend project though.
Guess I've rambled on enough for now. Y'all have a good evening! Love y'all!

I heard from Millie the other day, she is doing good, busy, but good busy. BWB & Warren can ya'll just email each other about those things instead of posting over & over again on the porch? Or post it once, if the other doesn't show up, then they don't show up, they'll turn up sooner or later. Sterling had a good idea, there are alot of IM programs, AIM, Yahoo, MSN. Might check those out, they are all free. I'm off to get some things done, got 2 newsletters to finish & a brochure for my business. Be back later.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43253: Guys....I am honestly getting VERY tired of your chatting arrangements. PLEASE stop. I don't want to read about you guys trying to hook up. It's not fun to read...it's not interesting. If you don't trust one another enough to E-MAIL each other then stop talking to one another. It's that simple.

THIS place is for visiting in a SLOW and easy place called Mayberry. It is not a "chat tracking" service. Either e-mail one another and figure out what you want to do or just stop talking. Why would you want to chat with somebody you don't even trust enough to e-mail?

I've been slow to speak so bluntly but I believe folks are getting tired wading through all the useless content just to find something worth reading so this is it. Stop.

Who is your mother's POA? Dear friend, sometimes ya's gotta fight for right. One reason i go by my mom's nursing home so much (about five nights or surprize day visits a week)is to keep an eye on the caregivers.
Last week they allowed her to get dehydrated! I immediately called the ombudsman and the state dept of health, and they acted fast on that one! ok, kablooy goes my box.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43255: I am just stopping by before bed and read your post Possum. I'm sorry about your troubles. Mavis and I have had some problems with our sisters also, so I feel for you. You should find out who your Mother's doctors are and turn him in to the DEA. He/She shouldn't have a license! I am married to a naturopath and those types of drug dealers just ruin medicine. There was an M.D. at hubby's old office that was put in jail for dealing prescription drugs. Anway, I'm praying.
Sterling- I like Mama's Family rather than Gilligan's Island. Maybe its b/c there was only 1 or 2 seasons and its boring. Mama's hilarious.
Boo- I'm so glad that overall you had a great time. I haven't spent hardly any time in the West and should visit more often.
MDC- You're right to visit your Mother the way you do. Your a good son.
Floyd- Thank you.
I don't have anything to say about the gov't issues y'all were talking about earlier. As I said, I don't keep up with news in the world. Its depressing!
Well, I need to get to bed. I'm leaving to go to Ky tomorrow for my picking up kids journey. I'll return on Sunday night. Please pray for us. Ky tomorrow, Ohio- Thurs-Sat, Ky- Sat-Sun. then GA again on Sun. Lots of travelling, especially for Bryson and I, but we'll do it with God's help. Y'all keep me rocker dusted until I return!

Mavis-I don't blame you for not getting up on the old soap box. I wish I hadn't. After, I reread most of my "soap boxing" I think it sounds so heartless. I stand by what I post but sometimes it just doesn't translate well and it sounds ... you know...nuts.

MDC-I can't remember the principal's name. He was funny. Do you recall Epstein's bogus notes from home that he would sign "Epstein's mother's." Also, who could forget that classic tune" Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Barbarino."

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43269: BWB no one said it was "horrible", but you have been asked nicely so many times to stop chatting here, it's not the way the porch runs. No one is mad at you, but where I come from when someone asks you to do something, especially when they are asking nicely, you at least "try" to do as asked. Again, no one is mad at either of you, and you are more than welcome to post on the porch, just please (read=nicely asked) stop chatting here. To the rest of the Porchsters, no I am not trying to be mean & I'm sorry if you all had to read this & it offended, but, guess when MDC blew up his soapbox, a piece hit me in thehead. Speaking of getting hit in the head, been a long time since Asa hit anyone with a wayward golf ball, he must be getting better. haha

Meant to say Boo sounds like you had fun, good for you! And Lucy be safe on your trip, here's a penny that's been run over by a train to keep you safe. Now I'm really going to bed this time!
*Mavis

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43272: Hey Barnwannabe (and Deputy Warren). Please understand that after the first time the chatting occurred, we could attribute it to you being newcomers and not being familiar with posting procedures. We informed you both about the problems with chatting and you apologized for that mistake. But when you repeated it so soon afterwards, it's understandable why some people here are probably more annoyed. And although I honestly believe that the second time was also unintentional, it can't blamed on ignorance.
But I was surprised when Barnwannbe posted in Msg 43270 that "I know we had been asked and I apoligized, but we don't see what was so bad about it." Did you forget about Floyd's increasing bandwidth costs that are a direct result of frequent refreshing during a chat session? See Floyd's Msg 42549 from July 10, 2006 for more details.
I'm just glad to hear that you and Deputy Warren have come up with an alternate way of communicating in real time. So speaking for just myself, I'm not mad at you nor at Deputy Warren. I find many of the postings from both of you to be polite and complimentary towards others.

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43273: Good morning porchters. Hope ya all have a good Wednesday. I made the coffee this morning so ya'll enjoy.--Salty Dog

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43274: Salty Dog!! Where you been? Glad you made coffee, I need it this morning! 'ppreciate it! I'm off to work & pay bills again this morning, wonder what causes that? How are our baby porchsters? And does Ro have pictures of them yet? Asa yer on diaper duty today, so be sure to tkae the toolbelt off. Spot I was checking out your campsite in the Porchster album, & had a question about your pop-up, how well does it stay warm in the cooler months? I always wondered about the screens in it. Been thinking about getting one of those myself for dog shows, but sometimes it gets kinda cool at night & wasn't sure how you stay warm in one of them. Thanks. Gotta hit the road again. Gas here is $2.88/gal time to fix that, but since MDC blew up the soapbox, I have to fix up another one before I can climb up on there.
*Mavis

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43275: Hey Mavis, I had some questions about SPOT's pop-up too but I was wondering if they stayed cool. When you think about it being made of canvas and screen you wonder....I dearly love to go camping but the older I get, the harder it is to set up camp. A pop-up sounds so easy. I wish I had a regular camper but I can't justify that kind of purchase while building a house. I think about the gas it would take to pull it anywhere, too! Gas is about the same price here as where you are, Mavis but it was 2.99 in New Mexico, ouch.

Salty Dog, I was thinking about you and some of the other porch-sitters that we don't see often enough yesterday. Wish you would cat a bit more and tell us what is going on in your life these days...

POSSUM, I said a prayer for you this morning...hang in there and please come to the porch often and pour your heart out if you need to...we are your friends and that's what friends are for. It's healthy for you to talk about your frustrations and this is a safe place to do it.

Been raining here all night. We STILL have not finished clearing our property because of all this rain, and little oak trees are sprouting up everywhere! The area where we will be laying the foundation was "de-stumped" yesterday, the barn area and the garden, too. I am starting to get a bit of enthusiasm now but so much to be done. I am supposed to be getting prices on flooring, appliances, etc...and you guys know how much I already have to do around here. When the kids get in school on the 14th I will be able to accomplish more.

Well, I have chatted enough....time to face the chores!

Boo

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43276: Good morning everyone! Thanks for the coffee, SALTY DOG. It’s been harder getting up in the mornings this past week. I wonder why? It must be the movement of the bed waking me up when the Mrs. gets up to feed the baby. I suffer so!

MAVIS: All’s well with little Veda so far. And the Mrs. is on the road to recovery. She had a hard time last week because she was trying to do too much. She is taking it easier this week and I’m trying to pick up as much of the slack as I am able, especially with the other two kids. Still, daddy is no mommy! The only problem the baby has is that her tear ducts are blocked, which I don’t believe is terribly uncommon. So, we have to massage them and stuff. It should work out over time. If that’s the biggest problem we face, hallelujah!

BWB and DWF: You guys seem very nice, and, as far as I’m concerned, Mayberry can use all the nice people that care to visit. And I enjoy the trivia y’all contribute from time to time. As far as your chatting, or arranging chats, just stop. If you are doing something for which you constantly must apologize, the solution is to just stop doing it. Take it from one who knows from great experience about making mistakes. Bygones; it’s a new day, and there’s no reason to be bitter about the past. So, no more apologizing, let’s just all move ahead.

POSSUM: What troubles! It’s very hard I’m sure, but you need to give over to God what you can’t change and take care of yourself for you and those who love you. Like the song says, try to “accentuate the positive, eliminate the negatives” And don’t feel bad about posting your troubles here, for goodness sake. Isn’t that what friends are for? You don’t ever have to bear your cross alone.

BOO: Oh, you know me, I just like to be contrary!

AUH2O: Oooh oooh oooh oooh! Pick me! I had a note for you, but the neighbor’s dog ate it.

MDC: That’s a crying shame about your mom. Beside the fact that someone is paying for her care and therefore is entitled to a certain level of service, basic human decency demands that you treat fellow human beings with kindness and dignity. I know that no caregiver or healthcare institution is perfect, and all make mistakes and have limitations, but it sounds like you are fearful things like this would happen on a regular basis if you weren’t as vigilant. I’m glad to contacted the authorities. I’m pray for the situation.

MILLIE: Don’t feel too bad about missing prayer time last night. I miss from time to time. Sometimes, circumstances make it inconvenient and sometimes I plain forget. I’m sure it’s that way for others. Still, when I do take part it’s a great feeling knowing that some of y’all are joining me in lifting up the joys and concerns of the porch.

Well, I have more things to respond to, but no time now to do it. So, I’ll shut up and let someone else get a word in edgewise.

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43279: 'Morning, all. Salty, don't be offended if I don't drink any of your coffee. Nice of you to make it, but I don't care for coffee. Love tea, but don't like coffee.

It's cloudy today, and only 79 at the moment, with a predicted high of only 93. A regular cold front! Looks like we could even get a bit of rain. OH, please, Lord! We need it so badly.

I had a lovely lunch and visit with my friends from Mexico yesterday, and they're coming by my house this afternoon on their way to the airport. I made a nice pie, and it's so cool outdoors, perhaps we'll be able to sit out in the arbor to enjoy the pie. Oh, dear! They DO drink coffee! Guess I'll have to try to locate my coffee maker, it's shoved back in a cabinet somewhere, I guess.

Bless all you new parents! I'm happy for you, and just love the little new porchsters, but surely am glad I don't have one at this point in my life. At work, I listen to the screaming babies in the patient's rooms, and see the bleary-eyed parents, and just go back to the desk and thank the Lord! (teehee) It's so cute, though, watching a big old burly first-time dad, trying to put a diaper on a squirming 6 lb baby. One guy got showered right in the face the other night, and his expression was just priceless!

Well, off I go. Have a great day, everyone. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43280: Hey, Salty. I'll meet you at the diner for lunch, as long as I can get back here before my friends arrive. What's the special? I hope it's not those vienna sausages in tomato sauce. I'm not big on vienna sausages, and sometimes that sauce is kinda thin. --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43281: BWB, would you care to join us at the diner? Do you like vienna sausages? --Romeena

Don't have time to answer to all post's this Morning, gotta go water the the grass Im trying to grow in my back lawn!

Deputy Warren Ferguson

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43285: You're on the right track, DWF. Plenty of water is the key for new grass. The new little roots are so shallow, and dry out so quickly. --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43286: Yeah your right Romeena, that's why Im using Pete Moss over the Grass Seed's to keep it moist. It help's alot apparently! Just stopping by in between watering session's. Think Im going to go move the sprinkler around again.

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43288: Thanks, SPOT. What a dilemma. Vienna sausages or fried bologna. No offense, but this is not turning out to be a high-anticipation lunch for me. Don't take that as complaining, though, SPOT; your culinary efforts are always appreciated.

I think I'm gonna take a snooze in the porch swing and hope that my boss is understanding...

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43290: Oh, one more thing. A question for all you Porchsters...

When we decided that the baby's anme would be Veda, we had only heard of one person who was known to someone we know with that name. The only time we had heard it otherwise was the movie "My Girl" (that's not why we picked the name). We selected the name because it has been around, though never real popular, since the late 19th century.

Anyway, yesterday, when the county inspector who was at our house looking at some remodeling heard the name Veda he said that it was his aunt's name. He went on to tell us that it was a Southern name and not unheard of by most (he is from Virginia). So my question is, have any of you (especially those from the South) ever heard of the name before? I'd just like to get an idea of how odd it is. Thanks!

Me-They

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43291: Well, we dont have to get the special ya know. They have a meatloaf plate thats pretty good. Maybe we can go watch them change the sign at the movies afterwards. I always enjoy watching that. Ya'll are more than welcome to join us. We just gotta make sure and not all leave a tip now.. quarter like that. Salty Dog

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43292: Me-They, I worked with a guy who's daughters name is Veda. She's about 10 by now I guess. She's the only real person I know with that name, other than that, My Girl is the only place I'd heard it. Yes I live in the South too.--Salty Dog.

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43293: Hey to M-T, Salty Dog, Romeena, and everyone else!!!

BWB.

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43294: To Me-They Msg 43290, check out this and this to learn more about the name Veda.

from Poor Horatio

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43295: Hey to BWB. Thanks, SALTY DOG and HORATIO. HORATIO: I hadn't been to the ThinkBabyNames site before, but I knew most of the information it provided. As far as the Sanscrit origin, that's the one most sources provide, but I have to wonder if it doesn't have some other origin since it's highest popularity in the U.S. stems from about 1900. It doesn't seem to me that most folks then (especially in the South) would have been partial to naming kids a foreign-sounding Hindu-inspired name. I wonder if it came about some other way. Oh, and HORATIO, both your links above are to the same site. Was that intentional? Anyway, thanks!

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43298: Afternoon all, been busy yesterday and today, not much time to sit on the porch during the day and pretty busy at home as well. I have a prayer request please, my neighbors 16 year old nephew was tragically killed in a car accident Monday morning (speed or alcohol or drugs were not involved, just a freak accident where he ran off the road at about 6:30 am on his way to his job as a jr. fire fighter in his community and hit a tree ran over an embankment and then into the river)They "suspect" that maybe a deer or some other animal may of ran out into the road and he dodged to miss it but that is only speculation.
Anyway, his grandfather who a volunteer fireman and rescue worker was one of the first on the scene and did not know it was his grandson until her arrived at the scene is having a very hard time as well as all of his family. Please pray for this family. They are requesting prayers from everyone they know and I knew you folks would be more than happy to as well. Thanks! SPOT, will be glad to being the slaw and the apple pie ala mode. Big Maude

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43302: My goodness, Big Maude! What a tragedy. Certainly your neighbors will be in my prayers. That's just awful. That poor granddad!

Regarding the name "Veda", yes, I've heard it before. Not recently, but years ago, in San Antonio, I knew two people by that name. One pronounced it Vee-da, and one pronounced it Vay-da. I think it's a pretty name, either way.

Well, gotta run. Much to do, and have to work tonight, dadburn it. Everyone have a great Mayberry evening, and Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43303: Hey Msg 43300!! Just jump in where you can and hang on. --Floyd

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43304: Hey, visitor in 43300 and 43301. This is a board set up for folks who like the Andy Griffith Show, which you evidently already know. It's not instant chat, it's more like a message board. While we do try to stick to show-related topics, we often (very often) stray from that and you never know what's coming up. We share each other's joys and sorrows, and just generally try to be supportive of each other, as neighbors in Mayberry would do. My best suggestion to you is to "lurk" around the porch for a while, (watch out for spiders) and read the archives. You'll soon learn how things work. Oh, and choose a name for yourself. Most of us have TAGS related names, but not all. It's not a requirement. Once you see how things work, speak up, tell us your name, and you'll be very welcome. --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43305: Oh, and Floyd up there runs our porch, and keeps things working properly for us. We couldn't do without him! --Romeena

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43306: Welcome unidentified poster #43300. Hey to FLOYD and SPOT. You got my prayers BIG MAUDE; a horrible situation. ROMEENA: Thanks, we pronounce it Vay-da.

Y'all have a great evening!

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43311: Me They, I forgot about Olive being a widow with children, bless her heart. Lets just let her keep it.

Big Maude, such a sad story. Being a volunteer fire fighter myself hearing about that just tugged at my heart. It's always sad loosing a fellow brother regardless of the situation but especially one so young. And how sad for his grandfather being the first one to get to him. The family as well as the fire dept will be in my prayers. Cause I'm sure if it's like ours, the dept was like a family as well. --Salty Dog

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43314: Good Evening Porch!

Spot, and other dinner people, something I've been wondering ever since I got here is, Do you guy's actually eat together? Im alway's reading MSG's like, "Big Muade" bring the Cole Slaw, or "Hot Dog's and Cool Aid Today"! So do you actually do that? Bring stuff over to each other, and eat together?

Ernest T, you won't know me, Im pretty new here. Been here since late May. Great see ya here though!

Hey to are new-comer. Hope you choose a name and grab a rocker!

Have a nice supper and evening!

Deputy Warren Ferguson

July 26, 2006 - Msg 43315: To Me-They Msg 43295, sorry about posting the same link twice in my Msg . The second link should have been VEDA.

To Big Maude Msg 43298, so sad to hear about your neighbors nephew being killed in a freak accident. I will offer a prayer for the entire family.

To Ernest T. Msg 43308, howdy and a welcome back. Remember me from Frank's Front Porch? I returned when Don Knotts passed away earlier this year. I think I was gone over 8 years.

To Deputy Warren Msg 43314, all of those postings referring to people bringing certain food items or preparing entire meals for everyone are all simulated. Since most of us are so far apart from each other, getting together for meals is impractical.
