Morning Porch

Irishter-Good to hear from you. We are friends with a family down the road that is of Irish descent and they love all things Irish. They have traveled quite a few times to the "Big Rock," their nickname for it.

I have some great news, nope, I haven't saved a load of money on my car insurance. I found a book that had disappeared, "His Excellency," a Christmas gift my girls. The book is about George Washington.

"It's a mark of us Fifes. Everything we eat goes to muscle."

"Nip it. You go read any book you want on the subject of child discipline and you'll find every one of them is in favor of bud-nipping."

"A cappella, a cappella"... Well, I don't remember all the words."

I have always wanted to be a writer but gave up that dream in college so now, I am writing some short stories and then I will see where that leads. Last Christmas, I wrote a children's Christmas story about a bumbling elf named Lester. So I am going to send Lester on a vacation soon - most likely Hawaii. I am sure Lester will find his share of misfortune and mishaps there.

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43028: Morning porch folks, Hope all is well today. Sounds like everyone is staying busy. My family and I attended the Kingsport Mets Baseball game last night (the Mets are the local farm team which feeds into the NY Mets). Anyway, it was "Mayberry Deputy" night and all in attendance were wonderfully entertained by the "Barney Fife" (aka David Browning). A good time was had by all. These games are usually pretty fun and relatively an inexpensive way to spend time out with the family. The Mayberry Deputy does a great job as Barney and if any of you haven't had the chance to see him I recommend you do.I know Mavis and Floyd would agree. You guys have a great day and behave. Big Maude

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43029: Hey Big Maude, I had every intention of having a great day but then you tell me to behave. You take all the fun out of it. :) Sounds like a fun time at the baseball game. I have heard nothing but good about David's Bareny imitations (dare I call a rich man by his first name...hey Dave) LOL

Mil, you're in fine voice there I see. Glad things are going well for you.

Sorry Mavis, I don't even know what the contender is. I thought it might be one of them new reality shows.

Hope you all have a blessed day, and like Maude said....behave yourselves for goodness sake.

Asa

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43030: Asa where you been? Under a rock? No, wait, that's possum the Contender is kind of a reality show, but I like it alot better than most of them. They start with 16 "contenders" (welter-weight this time) & they have a 5 round fight every ep. the winner stays, the loser goes home. They get down to the last 2 & the winner of that gets a million bucks. I watched it last year & was so glad they ran it again this year. Now I have to remind all my friends, I won't answer the phone after 10pm on Tues or Thurs (E.R.) Big Maude you are so right about David Browning, he is a hoot! Best get off here & head out to work, gonna be another hot one today, sure wish Spot would turn the air on & the heat off.

Gotta run. Have to see a hand surgeon this afternoon, probably going to need carpal tunnel release. My right hand is numb about half the time, gets "electric shock" sensations often, fingers are cold, and soakin' it doesn't help! Annoying. The surgery is much, much easier these days than it used to be, much progress made in techniques, and I have insurance. So, will get it fixed. Later, friends!

With Mayor Buckeye's isp out, here are a few Buckeye/Colt-isms:
It's so hot that the sweat dries up before it makes it down yer forehead. It's so hot that the dogs and cats are WALKING when chasing each other. It's so hot that the baseball players are using slip and slides to steal bases! haha

Well, gonna unhook myself (still wearing the EKG monitoring device) and get in the shower. 5 more days to go with all these wires and such. Hasn't been too bad, actually. I think all my heart troubles are stress related, but I'll let the doctor make that call.

Here is a link I found while looking tho How to make a gum wrapper chain It's pretty neat! Oh, & the bees are on the way to Clevland for you. haha Spot welcome home, them steaks was good & them corn on the cob grilled were awesome! Ro keep us updated on the surgery, think I might end up having to get that done before long, my hands just hurt me so bad anymore, one of the down sides of being a dog groomer for 26 years. All the rest, hey to ya, & see you in a bit. Where is Dixie???

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43047: Good evening, everyone. Saw the surgeon today, he says definitely will need a carpal tunnel release, will probably do it toward the end of August. Doesn't sound like any big deal.

Possum, just keep on being your sweet self. Sometimes life just isn't fair, but it's the only life we've got on this earth. Remember, we know who wins when it's all said and done.

DWF, I can't help you on the question about the other Warren. I do have some memory of someone by that name, but it's been a very long time. I couldn't begin to say when.

Spot, you'll have to get me a picture of Opie for the "Porchsters' Pets" album. I love kittens, just wish they didn't have to grow into cats. A friend was telling me tonight about her cat bringing a dismembered baby bunny into her dining room, and how proud the cat was of himself. That cat would have had to change his name to "Boll Weevil" around here, because he'd have been just a-lookin' for a home! Baby bunny, indeed!

Well, I'm gone. This heat has worn me out, I think I'll go to bed early. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43048: Oh, hi, Mavis. Didn't see you there. The good news about carpal tunnel surgery is that it's much, much simpler than it used to be. Outpatient, of course, done under a local block instead of general anesthesia. Also, doc said I could go back to work within a week, might have to limit the use of that hand for a few days, but no more of that business of keeping your hand above your head for three weeks and all that stuff, like my mama had to do about twenty years ago. He said my other hand will need it eventually, in a year or so, but have to do the right hand now, as I'm losing strength and have some muscle loss already. So, cheer up. If you have to do it, it won't be too bad. By the way, do you sleep in a wrist brace? That helps! --Romeena

July 20, 2006 - Msg 43049: Possum, hope all go's well. Im crossing my finger's for ya.

Romeena, It's O.K. I don't expect anyone to remember. But If anyone dous remember PLEASE let your Deputy know! Im glad the surgery dousn't sound like to much of a big deal!

"Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country,
giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care and free education!"

The passer-by says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican".

The man goes on and encounters another passer-by.
"Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America!"

The person says, "I no American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops,
shakes his hand and says "Thank you for the wonderful America!"

That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East,
I am not an American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks "Are you an American?"

She says, "No, I am from Russia!"

Puzzled he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"

The Russian lady checks her watch and says..."Probably at work!"

July 21, 2006 - Msg 43062: Good morning everyone! I'm at work today then off again for the weekend, so I thought I'd check in even though my desk is piled high.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. You're all nice, real nice. The Mrs. and baby Veda are doing fine. Mom is drug out, but improving every day. Baby is settling into a routine pretty quickly. She is a little jaundice, which is being monitored, but this was expected as the other two were also and the Mrs. had to get the blood incompatibility shot. Big sis is content to sit and hold her sleeping sister for, literally, hours. Brother has told us that he "likes his new baby Veda." Dad is a little tired, but not too much worse for the wear. So all is well.

Hope that all is well for y'all; I haven't had time to go back and read the archives yet. I'll try to do that over lunch and check back this afternoon.

How goes it, AFD?

July 21, 2006 - Msg 43069: Hey DWF. Thanks, TOM. Thankfully, the Mrs. has to do the nighttime feedings, at least for a few months. So now she has the baby monitor on her side of the bed, and I have the two-way monitor to the kids' room on my side. Last night, at 2:00 she was up feeding the baby, and I was up tucking my daughter in after she got up to go to the bathroom. The only person who got to sleep all night was my son!

Veda Marie - that is a beautiful name. Glad things went well (and quickly) for your Mrs. I can sympathize with all her late nights as well. : ) Prayers that Miss Veda's jaundice goes away quickly.

Well folks - Baby Dish has arrived. Miss Reagan Joy Quinn (two middle names - daddy and mommy couldn't agree) arrived at 4:27pm Tuesday - 7 lbs 11 oz, 20 1/2". She has a fairly good covering of medium brown hair - unlike big sis had - and is sweet as can be. I got to come home yesterday and am now anticipating the arrival of my folks sometime this afternoon to ooh and aah over their newest grandbaby. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers - they did make a difference! I'll check back sometime over the weekend and read through all the archives to see what happenings I've missed. Ya'll be blessed!

Well, I guess now the Porch is gonna be full of baby toys, baby blankets, and, oh yeah, somebody better get the diaper genie handy!

Hey, ROMEENA: Tell the Plum that she is welcome on our bed anytime (and we have a feather mattress!).

MeThey- YOU beat afd?? ha

July 21, 2006 - Msg 43084: No, MDC, to my great disappointment, I'm not going to Mongolia this year. My doctor didn't think it wise, since I had that surge in cardiac arrhythmias a few months back. I'm on Atenolol for it now, and it's working beautifully, but he felt it would be better to give that more time to prove its worth, before I go to the far side of nowhere again. He's probably right. Besides, I need to lose some of this weight I've acquired recently. I'm not sure I could keep up with the grueling pace over there at this weight. I've got to lose at least thirty, preferably forty pounds. I've done it before, I can do it again.

I may have a good prospect for my rent house. Sure hope so - I've missed that income.

Well, off to find some supper. I'm tired, ready to eat something and turn in early, I think. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Romeena, do they attribute excess weight to your arrythmia's? Just curious if there was a link there.

CONGTRATS AFD for the newest family member. What a pretty name. Glad all is well for everyone.

MDC, It feels like I threw that back a country mile. I had to cancel my golf round for tomorrow, and when I can't golf you know I'm hurting.:(

Funny story Mavis. Did you get everything resolved with the estate? BTW, my ears need a trim. In this heat they is awfully hot. Can you trim them without it looking like I just got them trimmed? You see I have Aunt Bee's make-up table and... oh, never mind.:)

Supposed to be over 100 here all weekend. Monday is a state holiday for us so I get a 3 day weekend. I think I need it too.

Prayers continue for Homemaker, Possum, Millie and anyone else needing them.

$25 dollars a hour, MDC? That sounds pretty good, even if it is in the hot sun.

Well, we may have to delay our house closing a couple days due to some last-minute(of course) financial lender problems, but hopefully things will work out quickly.

Have a nice night everyone.

July 22, 2006 - Msg 43096: Good morning, everyone! Surprise! It's 83 degrees here in Texas, at 10:00 a.m. Guess a cold front came through. I plan to take advantage of it, and get out there and get all my iris rhizomes planted. They've been sitting in a box in my kitchen for about three weeks, because it's been too hot to plant. Today's the day!

Thanks for the good wishes on the renter. Actually, now there are two prospects, one looks a bit more interested than the other, but we'll see what happens. I just gave the landscaper a check for $1490 yesterday, for restoring the destroyed back yard. That hurts. Still, you can't show and expect to rent a house like that when the yard looks like a war zone. It looks fine now. It also cost me another $600 to replace the ruined door and window screens. All of that was directly caused by the renter and her dogs. In addition, I've spent another $4000 on general maintenance that wasn't her fault. So, trust me, owning rent property is not all it's cracked up to be. Add in taxes and insurance and three months with no rent, and that house will be a big tax write-off for this year. No profit there. I hope next year will be better.

Sorry for that soapbox. It's just been such an ordeal. Why are people so negligent with someone else's property? If she had owned that house, I'll bet those dogs would have been gone when the first crater appeared in the yard.

Oh, I just saw my beautiful dragonfly friend out back! He's been here nearly a week now. I hope he's enjoying the mosquitoes. I found out what he is - he's a Flame Skimmer. Run a Google on him to see some very good pictures. He's gorgeous!

Tom, do you use just any brand of gum wrapper, or just one kind or color? I don't chew gum, but I have friends who do, so I might be able to collect a few wrappers.

Well, gotta run. I want to get those rhizomes in the ground before it gets too hot out there.

Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
