Morning Warren. Nice sweeping job.
Boo, you really crack me up as you describe your family get together. HA! Do you ever listen to Dr. James Dobb on the radio? He had Chuck (I still feel odd calling a rich man Chuck) Swindolls sister on last week. She delivers a pretty good message her own self.
MDC, You were talking about your studies of Matt. 5. I just love the sermon on the mount. Great lessons taught there that the world could use today. Sorry, I'm sounding a little preachy. I know some folks don't like to come here to be preached to.
Spot, why so quiet?
Back to work for me.

Well folks, I'm heading out from work early today. It's the first weekend that it hasn't rained with no soccer, no ballet, no company, no nuthin'. Gosh, I'm looking forward to cutting the grass, playing with the kids, working around the yard, and just generally lounging about. I promised Nora that tonight we can catch lightening bugs (that's fireflies to some of you), so we'll have to stretch bedtime from 8:30 to after 9:00. oh, well, tomorrow's Saturday.
Anyway, I plan on a relaxing, but productive weekend, and fireworks with freinds next Tuesday. We'll see if it all works out. Y'all take care and have a great weekend.
Remember prayer time every night at 8:55 p.m. EST. Be a joiner.

Colt, thanks for telling us about 20/20 tonight. I am watching in for sure (better tie a string around my finger).
It is cloudy and rainy here today and my sister has my little girl so I think I will crawl back in bed for a nap (such a rare indulgence)!

Remember how the king saw FOUR in the fire? So Jesus is not outside looking in, He is right there with us in the thick of it! Neat huh? I think of that often when I am with my mother

Matt 5,6,7. Some scholars think he gave that talk many times. Makes sense as no TV etc back then.
My dad's bro (now 85) was a B17 pilot. My dad flew the A-20, built as an attack plane, but used as a medium bomber. One time almost all the tail was gone but he brought it back. Mornin' Porch,
Its sunny and hot here today. I'm not sure what our plans are, but we'll have to stay hydrated. The plus is that we get plenty of vitamin D!
Poor Horatio- Thanks for the advice. Being from Ky I prefer Maker's Mark.
Rev- I know most singers the summer is they're busiest time of the year. Is that how it is for you?
Boo- What supplements are you giving Sean to help him with this transition? Have you considered biofeedback?
Mavis- You have my condolences. I was just speaking of my grandmother's not long ago, and it just goes by so fast, doesn't it? Do you have any other living grandmothers or grandfathers? If so, make sure you spend as much time with them as possible.
Warren- So, are you enjoying Sarah's? I have been to busy to join in for the fun.
Charlotte- What are the names of your books that have been published? I am continuously looking for Christian books for my kids, especially my 8 year old.
Asa- Do you use a toolbelt as your career in "real" life?
Things are going okay with the stepchildren. Stepdaughter and I were going to go today to get our nails done and ears pierced (mine grew back), but her Mom said that she couldn't. Its odd, but hubby was allowed to take her by himself in March. Ex is trying to make sure that stepdaughter and I don't bond. Neither of them have any manners, which I'm not used to because Bryson well-mannered. They are continuously picking on Bryson too, but I think that's because they can since he's the baby. Overall, its good for them to be here and later on in life hopefully they'll see what their Dad and I are trying to do for them. Love them.
After my novel I'd better get off of here. Have a wonderful day!
Blessings to you and yours,
~Lucy

Hey Horatio, I am supposed to get hooked up to the high-speed cable on Thursday of next week so maybe then I can visit Sara's. The only night that is not so good for me is Friday (family night).
Mavis, I am really sorry about what you are going through, wish your dad and sister were there for you.
Lucy, I am not giving Sean any supplements (shame on me), what would you suggest? Last night after I posted, I had a tough time with him. Just when I think things are going smoothly, wham. He was having trouble with insomnia and was worrying himself sick. He has GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and while he was on the Paxil he did real well. Now, the worrying is coming back, along with the stomach aches. He was actually worrying about memorizing his multiplication table and flunking school and school is still almost 2 months away! I pulled out a book I have about kids with Neuro conditions and re-read the chapter on GAD. There was some good info there about how to teach kids to get some relief from it without the drugs. I don't know alot about biofeedback but I know that his counselot does some deep-breathing exercises and tells him to picture a comfortable place in his mind. I am wondering about giving him Valerian but I don't know if it would mix with the Prolixin.
Wonder where BWB is? Maybe working hard this weekend.
I have been busy making 2 cakes for a friend's little girl's birthday party this evening. The kids are supposed to swim but I don't know with all this rain. Well, better get going....

Boo- I looked up some things that might help from the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. First, and I quote, "Perhaps the most significant biochemical distrubance noted in people with anxiety and panic attacks is an elevated blood lactate level. There are at least 6 nutritional factors that may be responsible for elevated lactic acid to pyruvic acid ratio: 1. alcohol, 1. caffeine, 3. sugar, 4. deficiency of the B vitamins niacin, pyroxine, and thiamin (Bryson takes thiamin daily), 5. deficiency of calcium or magnesium, and 6. food allergens. Kava extract has produced relief from anxiety comparable to drugs like valium but without the side effects. Primary treatment methods are: reduce or eliminate the use of stimulants, follow strict diet, and use kava. Eliminate refined carbs from diet, increase the potassium to sodium ratio, eat regular planned meals n a relaxed environment, identify stressors and eliminate or reduce the source, identify negative coping patterns and replace with positive, perform relaxation breathing exercise for minimum of five minutes twice daily, get regular exercise, take high potency multiple-vitamin and mineral formula-flaxseed 1 tblsp daily, and 45-70mg of kava 3x daily." None of these will affect his other meds, according to this book. Hope this helps!
Blessings,

A reaturant is a hard buisness to run, and because my parents are elderly, I do most of the running, but it was their dream, so when they bought it, my family and I decided to let it go.

My family is very supportive. They know this is my dream....I love the business, so that helps. Even when it's hard, it's fun.

Hey Tom so glad you got them today & you are certainly welcome. I opened 2 of them just to make sure they had the wrappers you needed on them. I am trying to find different kinds for you. Millie glad you got your book today, lots of great recipes in there, huh? Lucy and anyone else that needs it, my email address is k9hairdesign@comcast.net I would be glad to give you Tom's address to send wrappers to. Oh and Tom could you email me too? I might need you to come work on my porch, the gutters need cleaning & I can't reach them. haha Just kidding. I'm off to bed folks, I'm tired & I know tomorrow will be a hard day, viewing & funeral for Mamaw, graveside services on Mon.
Sure wish Ro and SugarPlum would check in, they must be having a grand old time.

Howdy, just checking in before bed.
Finally got back from the birthday party. The kids got to swim, eat pizza and break a pinata.
I am really sleepy and I still have to finish my Sunday school lesson for in the morning. I shouldn't wait until the last minute but things have been so busy!
Thanks for the info, Lucy. I remember reading something about the KAVA. I ordered that book about Yeast from Amazon but for some reason it never made it here. I have read that Magnesium really helps some kids with Tourette Syndrome so I have been thinking of trying it. I had not thought of the Flax seed but it makes sense. Can an 11 year old take the same high potency multivitamins as an adult? I have to do something for him, the poor child has been through so much and has gained so much weight.
MDC, how can I thank you for your prayers for Sean?! You are a good friend. I have started praying for healing for Sean, recently. I really haven't done that in the past but it is getting harder to cope with. God has given us so much grace and strength but it would be so wonderful to see Sean struggling less with all of this.
Hey to Millie and BWB.
Better go finish my lesson for tomorrow. Bye!

Night Mavis!!!
Thank you Millie. I am an only child, but when they decided to start this buisness, my cousins, and I got together, and most of them thought that it was a bad idea, but they don't spend as much time with their parents as I do. My parents live next door to me. I love them, and love helping them accomplish their dream, and to be frank, I love working at the resturant. We have so much fun. I only work 3 days a week, unless I work on Sat., but, I am there every day at some point or the other. When did you start your resturant, and how did you come about it???

July 01, 2006 - Msg 41962:
BWB, I used to work there as a bartender and manager, (my brother is in the kitchen)and I stopped working to stay home with the kids. I always loved the place....it was exactly the kind of place I had always wanted to own....a little neighborhood place, friendly, smallish, with really great food. I kept telling the owner for 10 years that I wanted to buy it. To my surprise, last year he relented...it took a few months to hammer out the details, and during that time they told me my cancer was stage 4...but I went ahead anyway. I couldn't(at this point in my life, with the family and my health)do this if I started from scratch.....too risky. Getting this opportunity was such a blessing. The place has been there 15 years, has always made money, has dozens of regulars that are there several nights a week, I have 5 key employees who have been there 10 years or more.
As you can tell, I really love it.

Well hello again porch family. Just got in from my concert. It was an outdoors concert and very HOT! Needless to say, I'm pretty tired.
Lucy...yes, summer months are very busy but we also stay really busy all year. (thank God) Of course December slows down for us because churches have so much going on during that month.
Boo...I think you having a "family night" is so great. That is so very important!
Well I better get to bed. I have an early concert in the morning. I'm in Tn now. Prayers for you all and remember Jesus loves us!

Millie: That is great. We have regulars all the time, too. We just took over a few months ago, but it is really jumping. I was never a bartender in the bar part of it, because where it is at, you can't have a bar, and a resturant in the same room. The bar is on one side, then there is a door, then the dining room, and kitchen. It's nothing big, just a small little country place. I love it, though.
Hey to Rev.

BWB, mine is in a seperate room, too. Up two steps with a big window between the two rooms...It's really cool.

In ours, you have on step, and a door that stays open, to the left, there is a door that stays closed, it leads to the bar, then to the right, there are the store rooms. One for food, two for alchoholic beverages.LOL!!! It is really neat, I am considered the manager, but due to it's small size, we have only 3 on duty, and I am one of them, so I am just one of the waiters. Does your bar have a package store???

July 01, 2006 - Msg 41969:
We don't do it that way here...you get an ABC license for on or on and off (premises). We do have an off license, but we very rarely sell bottles of wine to go, and nothing else leaves the store except wine. We have a law here that permits taking home an opened bottle, so occasionally someone will come in, have a glass, and take home the rest.

July 02, 2006 - Msg 41970:
Mil: What state are you in??? Here, say you come in for a beer, and you got it, and needed some change for the rest of the beer, if you walk out the door with that beer in your hand, you can by law be arrested. 2 or 3 weeks ago, we had one that slipped by our door man with a bottle of Jose Cuervo, and the police dept. tackled him, and hauled him off right out of our parking lot. It is really good, though, because it cuts back on drunk drivers. I've seen the police pull people over right after they leave the parking lot, for driving with an open container. If they wait until they drive a vehicle, they get them on a felony, instaed of just a mistimeener(Didn't spell right).LOL
We don't have to have the ABC liscense, but isn't their beer, and stuff a lot higher than buying it direct from the distributer???

I'm not sure what the problem is/was. I'll be out of town and may not have internet access until Sunday so if things break....it'll be broken until I can fix things.
We lost 4 or 5 messages in this so I'm gonna look at the script to see if I can find the problem.

BOO: I know you asked LUCY, but of course I've never been too shy to butt into a conversation. I also suffer from anxiety disorder. Eliminating (or cutting down on) the stimulants helps me, and I take flax seed liquid capsules as well as a multivitamin every day. Ground flax seed also is very good on yogurt. Though its not as drastic as doing away with the caffeine and excess sugar, I believe that it does help. Oh, and watch out for the carbs--that sugar doesn't help, either. In my case, I also am currently taking a medication because my anxiety/OCD went into overdrive last summer. But the doctor seems to think that it's a short-term thing, and that I should be able to get it back down to a manageable level. In any event, Sean is bound to feel the ups and downs as his body gets used to feeling his new "normal." It will get better.
About the Kava, I don't mean to contradict LUCY, but there are some possible adverse reactions and side effects to it that you should read up on before taking it. I'm not saying don't use it, just educate yourself to the possible negatives so you can make an informed decision. I opted not to, but that's me (and remember I have an anxiety disorder! ha!).
Well, gotta get to work.
Little bit of Independence Day trivia: The Declaration of Independence was actually signed on July 2. The reason we celebrate Independence Day as July 4 is because that is the day word of the document signing was announced. Also, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the very same day, which happened to be July 4.

Hopefully the change I made will stop the problem. I believe the issue may be that several folks try to post a message at exactly the same time. I corrected the script so that it locks the files as soon as a "message number" is assigned. We'll see if it works at keeping those spiders away.

Rev...I've got an outdoor coming up this weekend on Saturday and Sunday...hoping it's not going to be too hot, but really glad to be back and a part of this singing. It's an annual event in Dayton, Oh...it's been 10 years since I've done it...so I'm looking forward to it for sure. I did decide to turn down the label deal...and will work to do an indy...just not sure who, where or when. :-)

Hey Goober, good to hear from you and glad to hear that Mrs. Goober is doing fine.
Me-They, thank you for your opinion. I don't know whay I didn't think to ask you about all this earlier. Being there yourself, I am sure you have have some good advice. Please feel free to share anytime! Sean definitely gets too many carbs in his diet (and sugar). Trying to change his diet for the better is going to take alot of "culinary imagination"! Luckily he likes salads so maybe I can work with that more. Anyway, I am certainly going to try the Flax seed and multi-vitamin as you and Lucy suggested and walk with him to make sure he gets his exercise. He and his dad were supposed to go out for their first fishing trip on the new boat today but we are under a flash flood warning all day.
Interesting trivia about Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, what a strange cooincedence!
I want to tell you something funny that my 4 yr old said yesterday. Remember we had to go to VBS everynight last week and have spent an unusual amount of time in church lately....My little one asked me, "Mom, where are we going tomorrow?"..."Nowhere", I replied. She asked, "Not even to church?"..."No, not even to church", I said. Then as she turned to leave I heard her say quietly, "Thank you, Lord!". Ha, aren't kids great?
Better go.... chores to do!

Hope you had a nice Canada day Poor Horatio! Hey to Goober! Nice to see ya back on the porch!
Floyd, I agree, Superman Return's was phenominal! I hope they do a few more Superman's! The new Superman, at time's is IDENTICLE to Christoher Reeve, but it's a reffreshing change to!
Boo, who's diet are you trying to change? I am the last person who need's a diet! I'm as skinney as Barney Fife (well, close)!

Hey, BWB, DWF, COLT and GOOBER, and anyone else napping on the porch this afternoon. BOO: No problem.
Just to add to my July 4 trivia above (it's a boring day here at work), Adams and Jefferson became close friends while working on the committee to draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Their relationship experienced a serious rift over political issues during Washington's presidency that lasted for many years (and through their own terms). They later reconciled, and started a warm and frequent correspondence that lasted the rest of their lives. Jefferson died in the morning of July 4, 1826, on the country's 50th birthday. Adams died a few hours later. Sadly, his last words were reported to be, "Jefferson still survives." Pretty neat, huh?
