Lucy, I don't think I heard any mention of TAGS at all on the TV Land awards. Surprising, to say the least.
William Shatner is on now, on "Living in TV Land", and to put it kindly, he's an embarrassment. You'd think someone would tell him. I always liked him as the campy Capt. Kirk, but as himself, he's just way over the top, and painful to watch. I just changed the channel.

Yes, MDC, I read The Strong Willed Child. In fact, Erin's picture is on the cover.

I just found out tonight that my friend Ray who was to receive the kidney transplant didn't get the kidney. It seems that they damaged the kidney somehow while harvesting it from the donor. Poor Ray. He is in pretty good spirits, though, especially since this is the second time this has happened to him in a year. Wish I had better news about it but the Lord will help him. Thanks for your prayers.

I watched bits of the William Shatner train wreck, too. The only good bit was when his grand baby was born. I once heard The guy who played Chekov (sp?) on Star Trek interviewed. He sounded like a nice guy who had good things to say about everyone on Star Trek, but he refused to talk about Shatner--sort of a "if you can't say something nice, say nothing" approach. I got the feeling that he REALLY didn't like him.
As for the TV Land awards, I don't know when it was taped but it looked like there was no tribute to TAGS or Don Knotts, but I didn't watch it to the end. It will be repeated many times, I'm sure.

Well, I'm still up, didn't quite make it to bed a while ago. Got started doing a little writing and lost track of time.
Speaking of William Shatner, I have the impression that he's a great big walking ego. He just seems to be so full of himself all the time. I've seen him in some equestrian things, and I don't care for the way he handles a horse. He's very rough, jerking them around, it's like he's trying to give the appearance of being forceful and in control. Of course, I could be completely wrong about the man, but from what I've seen, I just don't think I like him. He just comes across as pompous, arrogant and aggressive. I'd hate to be his wife.
OK, this time I'm really going to bed. The Plum has been there for some time, and has staked out the best pillow. There will be much grumbling and fake growling when I make her move.

Yes Buckeye, I am sure Ray is dissapointed but he really has an amazing att-tude. He has had both legs amputated below the knee, is on dialysis and still spends his time serving others in need. He spends his days operating the local Salvation Army and you just never hear him complain. He ends up in the hospital every now in then with infections in his legs but acts like its no big deal. Amazing guy. He's like the Energizer Bunny.

How the idea for Cell Phones came from the communicator... it was a real interesting show. And Bill really hammed it up. Ro I agree, he handles the horses too roughly. 'Mornin', honeys and dears. For the Bill Shatner fans out there, don't get me wrong. I luuvvved Capt. Kirk! What a hunk, and so "in charge". And I'm also impressed with his energy and activity at his advanced age (why, he's even older than I am!) As for the influence that Star Trek had on today's technology, I think the credit for that goes more to the writers. The script would have been the same, the same ideas suggested, even if Gomer had been playing Capt. Kirk. I loved the way Shatner played him so campy, almost tongue-in-cheek. Sometimes you wonder how he kept a straight face. Now Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is another story. (Swooning right now, about to fall out of chair.) When he would bark "Make it so!" that was just too, too much!
Fred, you stay out of the way when the lead goes to flyin' at those truck stops. Of all the stupid things for two grown men to do. Cut him off at the gas pump, did he? Now that's really something to shoot a man for. I say just punch him in the nose and let it go at that! (teehee)
Some good friends of mine lost their beloved Maltese about a year ago, and last week they got a new puppy. Named him Oh! Reilly. Isn't that cute? They'll call him Reilly, of course. He's just a little fluff ball, and is adorable. Makes me think of the Plum's baby days.
Well, a bite of lunch, then a nap, then to work. Yep, that's the plan. A bite of lunch, then a nap, then to work. That's the plan? Hmmm! I gotta get a better plan!

Oh, my! I just saw a distressing sight. A flock of pigeons came in for the feed I just put out, and one of them has not one, but two broken legs. It can't stand up at all. It flutters down, uses its wings like a parachute, and just plops on its belly. Then it more or less "swims" across the yard, using its wings. The legs don't appear to work at all. It flies very well, though. I hope it will do as well as the one I saw last year with one broken leg - stuck straight out at a right angle. Gradually, the leg moved downward, and in a few months the bird was walking on it. He's still around, I see him every day. Leg is still a bit gimpy, but he can walk. Now this one today -- I don't know. Looks pretty bad, poor thing. I wish I could help him, and I'd be happy to try, but as I said, he flies quite well.
I frequently see birds of all kinds with leg injuries, and I have a theory. I think they're getting them snagged in those net things that companies put over their trees to discourage the birds from roosting in them. Then when they try to fly, with their leg caught in that net, they break that little toothpick leg. My very own hospital put those nets on our Bradford pear trees, and I didn't like it. Told 'em so, too, but it didn't do any good. In the first place, it looks stupid. Who ever heard of a tree wearing a hairnet?
Well, 'nuff of that. Sorry, I'm just upset over that poor little pigeon. I'll keep an extra measure of cracked corn out on the stones so he doesn't have to search for food.

My brother brought it home from school one day, and I can't remember from what class or why they had it or why they were getting rid of it, but that little guy really had a lot of chutzpa. He didn't let not having any legs stop him from doing anything, and he was one sassy parakeet. Animals have an amazing way of not letting things get to them, it seems. They just go about their business any way they can and I don't think they really want pity from anyone. At least I know that parakeet didn't. He was one tough cookie. Mama said she petted Bo while he was dying. My dad offered to put Bo down for Matt but Matt said no he was his dog he would take care of him.
My brother and I get real attached to our animals. And I hate to see him so upset and on top of my mood over my dog too....

March 24, 2006 - Msg 36131:
Good afternoon, everybody! I need your help. Remember I told you about our newest canine member of the family, little Bentley, who belongs to my son and DIL. Well, that little nine week old baby has been diagnosed with Parvo! Makes me sick. They've already bonded with him, and are willing to do what it takes to try to save him. I, however, am of the opinion that the breeder should definitely be involved in this. They have had the puppy six days, and he has been sick since the fourth day. Since the incubation for Parvo is 6-8 days, or so I've been told, then it seems obvious that he was exposed before they got him. Mavis, what's your take on this? What would you say the breeder's liability is? Just giving them their money back and euthanizing the puppy is not an option. They love the little guy. I think the breeder should refund their money and let them keep the puppy, and they will pay his vet bills, gambling on the 50/50 chance the vet has given them for his survival. Does that seem fair to you? If he dies, the breeder is not out any more than he would have been if the puppy had died in his possession, but my son and DIL will have nothing but broken hearts and cancelled checks to show for the whole endeavor.
My poor little crippled pigeon is sitting out there in the yard, all alone. I feel so bad for her. Yes, it's a hen - the males have been trying to court her, broken legs don't seem to bother them. I'd so love to help her, but she flies away when I approach. Poor thing can't perch on the birdbath, so I've set a pan of water on the ground. Nature can be so cruel at times.
Well, sorry for such a gloomy conversation, but friends are in it for the long haul, the good and the bad, I guess. Thanks, folks!

Dixie, I'm sorry your March has been so rough. I hope and pray things will get better for you quick. Losing an animal is very hard. Some folks don't get it, but we all do here.
Well we had some things come up at the last second and caused us to postpone our trip till next month sometime. Darn it! Nothing serious, but sure am glad we became aware of it before we left, or we would have had to fly right back. So all is well.
Boo, is your Dad doing ok? You said he had some swelling in his legs. That's a concern. Did he get to the Doctors?
And is your Mom ok? Did they get her heart problem worked out? Prayers for you and yours.
Spot, whats for dinner? I'm starved!

Hope you do make it back.
Well gang, I got the shocker of my life today, and ask for your prayers. It doesnt even have to do with my mom, but my JOB! About a year ago Renal Care got bought by an international company, Fresenius, and they are just now starting their "cost cutting" which includes a lot of middle management, of which I am! They gave us 1 WEEK's notice! Wow! there is a severance of about 60 days, but I really thought i would make it thru. So there may be a bit less porch sitting and a lot more Monster sitting! I know the Lord provides, as he did with me at RC for 6 years, but the way your prayers did miracles for my mom's condition,(she has been doing reaslly good lately) I ask them in this situation too. Thanks, You folks are the best. Those common Mayberry values really do stand out!
Hope to visit on Sunday!

Evenin' Porch,
Does it seem to y'all that when it rains, it pours. This porch is obviously not screened in and we're getting drenched!
Dixie, Romeena, and MDC prayers are goin' out. MDC is right that the best person to go to when there are trials and tribulations turn to the Lord.
Floyd- what's with the interlopers? We haven't had any in a few weeks. I really liked your interviews on mayberry.com.
Welcome Big Maude and Marty from the mountain top.
Asa- Sorry you couldn't go on your trip. Better luck next time.
Buckeye- Yeah, my husband got it all! Those hot brown's really are yummy, and fattening, but is there any other way?!
Spot- where's breakfast tomorrow?
I actually have a bit of good news. Do y'all remember me telling you about my son being called "gay" and picked on a bit? Well, the main boy who was doing the picking has left his class, hooray!
Y'all take care and have a wonderful evening, well, what's left of it anyhow.
Blessings to you and yours,

Hazel, I'm glad you're ept. I, on the other hand, was one of the bubbleheads who just yelled for help and said not a word about where, when, or what. Guess I expect Floyd to be psychic. I'll try to do better in the future. When Floyd is willing to work so hard to help us around here, the least we can do is point him in the right direction!
It's a perfectly gorgeous day here today. Bright sunshine, clear sky, and cool but not cold. My grass is such a beautiful green, but it needs mowing badly. My yard man hasn't gotten into the swing of things yet, and it's been two weeks since he mowed. He came by yesterday evening and was shocked at how high the grass is. Said he'd be back today. I hope so. If he doesn't show, homemaker, I may be calling on you to see if I can borrow a couple of goats. Have you got any that just eat grass and leave flowers alonw? Just don't send Jimmy - he mostly eats dynamite, and I don't have any of that for him.(teehee)
Well, away I go. Lots to do today. Sugarplum says 10-4! --Romeena

Afternoon Porch! Just got a minute then gotta get back to working on my website.
Lucy yes there is ALOT more traffic when the race is here, they tell us that when it is, Bristol, TN is the 3rd largest city in TN for that weekend! The track seats 160,000 folks.
Ro It is DEFINETLY the breeders responsibilty. If your son wants to take her to court, he will win. The puppy should have been vaccinated for parvo starting at 4 weeks, again at 6 weeks & again at 9 weeks, that is how I vax mine when I have babies. Parvo is fatal if not caught in time & even then, it can still kill them. Makes me so mad...there is NO reason any dog should still be dying from this when there are vaccinations to prevent it! How is the puppy doing?
Floyd thanks friend for fixin the problem, I didn't see it, but don't think I want to.
Spot & all my other race buddies, it's snowing here & they are having a heck of a time getting any of the races, qualifying or practices complete. Hope they get the track dry soon, I want these people to go home, not stay extra days because races have to be rescheduled.
Off to act like somebody.

Yep, Deb, a few eps of TAGS will raise your spirits. I'll probably do the same thing, just because I enjoy them.
Little Bentley is still hanging in there - we're hoping he'll make it. Then I hope my son will at least insist on that breeder reimbursing him for the hundreds of dollars he's spending to save the little guy. If the puppy dies, then I think the breeder should reimburse him for the medical costs and give back what my son paid for the puppy as well. Ridiculous.
Well, guess I'll think about some supper around here. Spot, what are you cooking? I could make some corn bread and some slaw. Would that fit in anywhere?

Welcome to Big Maude! What part of the porch do you sit on? I'm on the Southern side(South Carolina).

Evenin' Porch. Lucy, glad to here that other boy is somewhere else. We got back home a little earlier this evening from my sister's home about an hour and a half drive from here. She had a graduation party for her son, they decided to go the home schooling route because of bullying problems at the school. The education turned out just fine and my sis learned or relearned a lot also. We had a very nice party with relatives and neighbor friends. It was too cold to have the party outside so we set up the outdoor porch table in the living room. we brought our cole slaw and others contributed their specialties.

Hey Mayberry Deputy, thanks for the welcome and hey to Big Maude, Romeena, Hazel, homemaker, Deb,possum.., Spot Floyd and the rest of you on the porch this Saturday evening.
Floyd: if your on the porch, I think the problem reaching Mayberry at work must have something to do with the narrower bandwidth road they hooked up to, must be causing a bottleneck, there are literally thousands on the system and some sites just seem to be more of a problem than others. If I just keep plugging away I can eventually get through. At home the big mac is fine.

I'm a happy camper. Got to work in the yard for several hours today and that always makes me happy. Tired, but happy. Planted some new iris, lots of begonias, some Gerbera daisies, and then around the fishpond I put some ivy, fern, watercress and sedum. Rescued some petunias that had been dug up and set aside, then forgotten, when we were working on the pond at the first of the week. Found them and tucked them back in, too. Pulled up a bunch of peppermint. Mercy, that stuff is invasive! I never dreamed I'd be actually WEEDING peppermint out of my flowerbeds! Anybody want some? Be sure to plant it in a container.
Well, I'm off to the ironing board. Want to be alert for preaching in the morning, as our pastor is never "as dry as dust". He's always got some new and fresh word, and I don't want to miss it.

Yo Spot , you did remember your ammennies, we said hey at the front porch last week at my first visit when I met some of your friends like B00. Sterling and MDC. Thanks again for the welcome. I've been trying to keep track of my ammennies also- don't want to get too much like Ernest T was before his social training. I heard you mention it was cold at that south end of the porch. A friend I work with bought a home in Pawley's Mainland, SC. I thought it was always warm or at least mild temperatures in the winter but from the talk on the front porch there is still cold weather at times even down there in SC and Ga. Still, I think I might like to move ther someday. I guess there isn't much swimming in the ocean at the SC beaches this time of year.

Mavis, I thought of you yesterday as I watched an episode of Bonanza. Did you see it? It reminded me alot of a TAGS episode where Hoss was a juror and everyone else was ready to hang the suspect, but Hoss held out cause he had reasonable doubt. At the very end Hoss proved to be right. Sounds like Aunt Bee huh? Now here was the weird part. The guy who was the jury foreman was the same actor who was the jury foreman in the TAGS episode. I don't remember his name now, but he was the same fellow who played Ben Weaver with the shoplifter. I just thought that was odd that he would play simular characters on two different shows that had the same theme. Maybe I just watch to much tv. LOL

Question for any who may know. I have suffered from a herniated disc in my lower back for about 8 years now. I have founf I can keep things under control somewhat if I am real careful about what I do. The problem is I can't do a whole lot. It has really cut into the quality of my life. I will not have a fusion done unless I become bed ridden. I have seen to many folks come out of fusion surgery in worse shape than when they went in. Even my own Dr. says there is a 1 in 4 chance sugery will make things worse. So my question... there has been recently in our newspapers ads concerning new nonsurgical treatment for disc problems. Has anyone checked into these? There is a "free report" they will send you, of course then they have your phone number and a.d. any I fear will be hounding me till the sun quits rising again. I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with this. They have a web site www.seriousbackpainfreereport.com but all it wants is your address to send the free report to. (yea, right)
Has anyone ever checked these out?
