KY Girl, Curling is kind of like shuffleboard on ice almost. The "pitcher" (don't know what elese to call him" shoves this big akward lookig thing down the ice, while two folks on either side of it sweep the ice with brooms which I guees controls the speed of the thing and they try and get it to land in some kind of circle. It's really odd. Why it's an Olympic event is beyond me. I'm sure it takes talent and all, but the Olympics?

Boy Chuck, We had just melted off enough snow here that it looked like I may get to go this weekend, and I wake up to 4 fresh inches on the ground this morning, and they are calling for another 4 today. (big sigh) At least it being Feb. means it won't hang around to long, I hope.

Nice sweeping Hazel. I always did say you second to none with a broom in your hand.

You were right Romeena. Them dozen roses delivered at her work was a BIG SUCCESS! :)

Spot, whats for lunch? The diner is having that boiled cabbage and that just lays and lays and lays on my chest!

Eat up everbody. Asa, my breakfast should sit better with ya than that boiled cabbage at the diner. Now I don't want to start a moulage amongst the curling fans, but to me watching curling is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Our TV's on the blink and if we turn if off it gets all messed up. So we leave it on all the time on mute. Seems like every time I've walked through the room lately that there big bullseye is a starin' back at me. Did anyone see the dog show? Which ones did ya pick? I liked the English sheep dog.

Ya gotta admit, though, the Maltese was one classy-looking little dog.

February 15, 2006 - Msg 33967: Hi, everybody! MDC, that cereal you referred to sounds a bit like the big old shredded wheat things. What would you call them - loaves? Rolls? Biscuits? Not sure, anyway you know what I mean. My husband loved them, but he had a weird way of preparing them. He wanted two of them in a big soup dish, pour a little boiling water over them to start softening them, add a pat of butter on top of each one while they were still hot, then sprinkle sugar over, then add warm milk after the butter had melted. Sounds awful, I know, but they were actually pretty good. I don't even know if you can still get the big shredded wheats, all I remember seeing in the past few years is the mini-wheats. I like those, too. No frosting, just plain.

Asa, I'm glad Mrs. Asa liked her roses delivered at work. Gave her a chance to gloat a little in front of her co-workers. We women are like that, you know. I'm sure your stock climbed several points when those roses were delivered.

It's warm, sunny and beautiful here today, but there's supposed to be some severe cold headed our way. Doggone it, it'll probably freeze all my pretty posies. Oh, well. They'll come back out.

February 15, 2006 - Msg 33977: I guess the media never heard of "Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone." Now, I don't drink, and don't hunt, and my husband didn't either, but that doesn't make me want to throw stones at Cheney. Like Spot said, it was an accident. It could happen to anyone. I had an uncle who shot his own toe off in a hunting accident, and he was cold sober. And then there's Barney! How many times has he ventilated the floor or ceiling down at the court house? I would imagine Cheney feels bad enough, so I wish the media would give the guy a break. Yes, it was probably a stupid error, but it was an error. He wasn't trying to kill the guy, for heaven's sake! And from what I read, the guy who got shot hadn't followed hunting protocol himself - hadn't announced his presence behind Cheney. So I wish they'd just let it alone. OK, that's my piece.

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

February 15, 2006 - Msg 33978: Hey, CT. Assuming you're talking about a high school class ring - here's an idea. Our kids decided that since most people don't wear a high school ring for very long, especially if they get a college ring later, they decided to get just a regular ring instead. The girls chose birthstone rings, the boys got the nugget rings that were so popular then, with one small stone offset in them, their birthstone. Very pretty rings, and I think most of them still have them. I know my youngest son's was stolen. If it's not too late to cancel the order, that's an option for your son. Probably wouldn't cost quite as much, either, and even if it did, it's something he'd wear forever, even with a college ring. Just a thought....

Romeena, you have been quoting one of my favorite eps, Family Visit. And it just so happens that was the first one I watched the other night after getting season 5 on DVD. It is so neat to see scenes I have never seen before. There is a small scene in this ep. where Andy, Ollie and the whole gang stop for ice cream cones. And Ollie still playing around with the siren. Good stuff!

Morning Folks

Wow, finally have the time to stop by and have a cup of coffee. Been a busy week here.

Well, here's my two cents on the VP matter. I think politically Cheney blew it. He is a very smart and politically astute man, he should have known the press was going to try and tear him apart with all of their nonsense. Today's press is an embarrassment. They will do anything to try and make those right of center look bad and Cheney was well aware of this. However, in the real world, where we all live, he handled everything above board. I think Cheney has been a fantastic VP. I wish he was gonna be our next President but that ain't gonna happen.

Happy Birthday buckeye !!!

Asa-Yep, I'll second that monition with regard to Springs arrival. Do we have enough for a quorum?

February 16, 2006 - Msg 33986: Happy Birthday, buckeye. Hope it's a good 'un. I think Miss Charlotte Tucker had a birthday last week and I failed to mention it. Hope you had a good 'un, too, CT.

I bought my class ring through a local jeweler and it was a lot less expensive than buying it from the organization that came to our school. It wasn't top of the line or anything but cost 77 bucks in 1985. The bad thing is they push getting class rings as sophomores and we wound up moving after my sophomore year so my class ring is from a different school than the one I graduated from.

Gonna have high 60's today but expecting that cold front later this afternoon - gonna drop about 30 degrees in just a couple hours according to the weatherman. But we're gonna get some precip, so that's A-ok with me.

I enjoyed Rush's comments on Cheney, too, homemaker! ; ) I think the Washington media is just overblown in the fact that they think Cheney should have told them first before announcing the accident in the location where it happened. At least Cheney is taking responsibility for the situation and not passing blame like a lot of others would do.

I'm up for lunch today - sounds delish! Speaking of cornbread - my hubby took our 5 yo daughter grocery shopping on saturday and as they shopped he said, "let's make some ham and beans for lunch tomorrow." He had stopped to put something in his cart and he notices she's putting something in the cart as well. She put in two boxes of cornbread - daddy looks questioningly at her and she says "Daddy, you can't have ham and beans without cornbread". Guess she didn't want him to forget it.

Boy, I better shut 'er down here, I'm being awful windy.
Prayers for all (and Harry, too - got it, MDC)!

February 16, 2006 - Msg 33987: Good morning, everyone! A foot of snow here on Saturday, and a beautiful sunny 65 degrees today. Ain't God's creation grand?

(Climbing up on soapbox...) The Cheney-hunting issue is regretable. And the press is definitely making a big moulage out of it. But the big picture problem is the left-right thing. When people criticize the "lunatic liberals" or the "extreme right-wingers" they are not really criticing some group of people off on an island somewhere. They are talking trash about their neighbor, their coworker, their fellow parishioner, or even their friend. The press just gives us what we want. Reporters are neither Solomons with word processors nor souless robots who spit out facts. They are humans with foibles and convictions just like anybody else. And, just like most of us, whether they do it intentionally or not, usually "gives the peoples whats they want." They play to their own particular audience. In this particular instance, Cheney is being verbally assaulted for an accident that could have happened to anyone. But we buy their papers, watch their newscasts, and log onto their sites. How long would a newspaper that no one buys be published? We vote with our attention. So is the problem really them, or us?

We all have closely held and, I would hope, well-thought out political opinions and values for living. We just need to learn to turn away from what we believe wrong, and focus upon what we believe is right. I'm all for standing up for what I believe is right, but I'm also for holding out a hand to someone I believe is wrong. It's the Mayberry way!

Have a great day!

February 16, 2006 - Msg 33988: Getting alot of snow on the upper middle section of the porch(I hope that's not where the spiders are) today. Supposed to last til midnight. Kai was kind of disappointed that they cancelled school because Thursday is always "chocolate milk day", so we trudged through the snow to the market and got her a special little bottle of chocolate milk. :)

120 days with no rain! 4 months! It is so dry here that even the rattlesnakes think it's too much trouble to curl up to strike! ha It's so dry here that i saw a coyote tellin someone that he would be tame if he could get a drink! ha We have a good watershed from northern Az and we have the Central Arizona Project that brings water from the Colorado, but it is bad because the dust in the air is now so fine that people with asthma etc are having rough times. A prayer or two would be appreciated. My mom is doing pretty well. She always has been a galant lady!
Buckeye, I've been picked on more than an elbow scab, so no problem! ha
I think we should all get a ride in your '62 Chevy for your birthday! Whadda think? "I smell gas, I smell gas, I smell gas, I smell gas!" You set up the seating arrangment and I'll strap a few on the roof! ha

AUh20, Baseball is in the air around here! (Besides the dust that is!) Ah chooo!

February 16, 2006 - Msg 33994: Very well stated, Me-They, and you're right. I do think, though, that the Washington press should hush about the fact that they weren't notified first. I would imagine that Emergency Services were notified first, and it's highly likely that local news services were listening in on police and emergency calls, especially with the VP in the area. So who can even say who was called, and when? I do think it's regrettable that Cheney neglected to have a "bird stamp" with his hunting license - he should have known better than that, but that ain't a hangin' offense. On the other hand, driving drunk and dropping one's car in a lake and leaving a girl in it to drown, and not calling police or anyone else for over six hours - well, that just might be. Miserable toad.
I'm just glad he's not a Republican, because I'd feel the same way about him even if he was.

Had a good lunch with a friend I haven't seen in months, Very pleasant. Now I gotta run to the bank - hope Mr. Milvern doesn't decide to close it up early.

February 16, 2006 - Msg 33995: Thanks, ROMEENA. So how do you really feel about Ted? (hee, hee) By the way, I agree. Republican or Democrat, wrong is wrong. You're also right about the bird stamp thing. That's a little more serious than letting your parking meter expire, and a little less so than jaywalking on a Sunday morning. Do me a favor, while you're at the bank, would you give Asa a shake and tell him Me-They says hey?

How about that...got my picture over at the site and everything (www.theisaacs.com). Romeena, here's the deal. I'm at work this afternoon taking a computer class, and we are taking a break so I pop on here to see what my Mayberry pals are jawing about today. Well just about the time the instructer is telling us to get started again, I come across your "toad" quote and bust out laughing, and I couldn't stop. I finally had to get up and leave to compose myself as the instructer didn't look to happy with me. Oh my, you have a way of summing things up so short and sweet. I ain't had a belly laugh like that in a good looong time. Thank ya.

Yeah,right-sure he did.A likely story- ain't no way a drunken toad could've swam across that water,I'll tell you.And since I'm ragging on him,he ought to fix up those houses at the Compound. The paint was peeling off of the shutters like crazy.Methinks he spends his money on other things,if ya know what I mean!

As for the V.P. issue, remember folks, the media searches for stories that sell; no matter what.
I just saw a bumper sticker that read:
I WOULD RATHER BE HUNTING ANYDAY WITH DICK CHENEY
THAN RIDING WITH TED KENNEDY

It all boils down to this: Dem. or Rep......the Bible tells us that we are to pray for ALL those in authority. "ALL"

I will be gone on a short tour for the next few days. Will miss hanging out here with you great folks. Can you believe I will probably miss the 500 this Sunday. Oh well...thank God for reruns.
You all be blessed!!

February 16, 2006 - Msg 34012: Asa, I'm glad you got a laugh out of my "toad" comment. It really wasn't intended to be funny, it just came out naturally, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was raised to be obedient and respectful to my elders, and to be kind to everyone else, but some things just get all over my fighting side, and that's where the trouble starts. I was also raised to be true to my convictions, to think my opinions through and compare both sides, and not to back up from expressing them when I felt strongly about an issue. Of course, that requires listening to the other person's side of an issue in return. Problem is, there is no other side when it comes to the Toad. He just flat-dog let that girl drown and made no attempt to do anything about it, and for some reason (money? power? influence? fear?) the good citizens of Massachusetts chose to let him get away with it. Shame on him, and shame on them. --Romeena

February 16, 2006 - Msg 34013: Wow, Goober! That's wonderful! Congratulations on winning that guitar. You'll have to play us a tune real soon. Do you know "Dance Till your Stockin's are Hot and Ravelin'"? That's one of my favorites!

Fred Goss, I checked out the Freightliner Coronado search. They sure are pretty on the outside, but I was hoping to find a picture of the inside of one. I've heard they're just really nice and like you said, a home away from home.

Well, guess I'll go watch a few eps from the Fifth Season. The snail dropped mine off yesterday, the Plum nabbed it and tore the jacket before I could get to her, but the CDs aren't hurt. Little Shredderteeth. Those little bitty jaws of hers are amazing. She got hold of a 1/2" thick catalog one day and literally bit one corner off, cleanly. Not torn or tattered, just bitten off! She never bothers anything or chews up anything except the mail. Well, the mail and my garden shoes if she can get hold of one. I'm pretty careful about where I leave them, though, because I don't know what might be on them. I usually leave them in the garage.

Have a great evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
