THANKS for all the prayers you guys!! My mom is in latter stages of alz these days! Goober and Asa, I know how hard it was on you two, and mavis too. (I cant believe it's been 18 months)
Goober, I have had the same thoughts, that I just couldnt do it, but now that we have discussed it throughout my family, we have said it is time!
I'm sure that like me, you also must have cried out like Job from time to time. I know the Lord is with us, and i know that we have the final victory! Thanks again!! You folks are great.
Have a great porchster day. Prayers for all our soldiers, families, and the world!!

Wow, what a post to sweep with!
And the porch didnt even look that bad with the new swing and new glider! haha
Oh well, it's ready for the weekend! mdc

February 10, 2006 - Msg 33791: Good morning Porch! Good sweep, MDC. I haven't had a chance to read over the archives yet, so I hope that all is well with everyone this day. They're calling for snow here tonight and all day tomorrow, so I guess I'm getting my wish. May get around 4-6 inches; nothing too bad, but people around here really freak out. Last night, with just the threat of a few inches, people packed the grocery stores. Just try and find milk at a grocery store today! You'd think we lived in the Northwest Territory or something. They do a great job with the roads here and by Sunday morning the roads should be fine, if not dry. Well, as long as everyone has their milk, bread and tp, I guess they feel more secure that they can rough it out that one day.

Take care!

Me-They

February 10, 2006 - Msg 33792: Ha ha, Me-They, that reminds me of when I worked at the grocery store in my hometown. Whenever there was snow(or rain for that matter) in the forecast(didn't matter how much) everyone would come in an buy a ton of "supplies". And that was in central Wisconsin; you'd think they'd be used to it up here.

February 10, 2006 - Msg 33801: Ha! Good one! I loved those Burma Shave signs, they sure made the time go by faster on long road trips.

MDC, you have my prayers as you deal with end-of-life issues with your mom. Most Hospice organizations are heaven-sent. We had them with my dad for his final two weeks, and they helped so much. My brother and I were able to spend quality time with my dad, because we were able to go home and get some sleep between visits. The nurses were competent, kind and supportive, and I'd recommend Hospice to anyone. Actually, my younger daughter works for a hospice in Fredericksburg - she's the PR person, liaison between the agency and the community. She loves it!

Well, guess I'll drag my sneezy, coughing self out and take the Plum over to get her sutures out, then back to my chair, my tea and my little stack of self-pity. Have a great day, all you healthy people! Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

February 12, 2006 - Msg 33829: Good morning, all. I'm up and feeling a bit better, will be going on to preachin' this morning. Same old misery in my back, that's normal for me. Coughing has irritated the messed-up nerves in my left side where I had the chest tube three years ago, and I feel like there's a big fist clenched under my ribs. Sure does hurt. Mercy, I sound worse than Emma! I'm sorry. This too shall pass, and besides, I'm able to function, sit here at this window and look at God's beautiful world and His critters, and take myself to church. Guess I can't ask for much more than that!

It got cold here last night, not sure how cold, but there's a thin skim of ice on the birdbaths. The fountains are flowing, no problem there. The birds and squirrels have already visited the one where the water bubbles out of a rock. Easy perch there, so it's popular. The other fountain is a little "umbrella" fountain, puts out a spray that forms what looks like a big bubble. So far, only one bird has mastered perching on that one. It's round and slick, and there are no footholds, but he managed. The squirrels ignore it, because it's out in the middle of the pond, and they're too smart for that. They sure like the rock fountain, though.

Well, gotta go get dressed. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

February 12, 2006 - Msg 33830: Morning Porch. Good Sabbath.
Glad your feeling a little better Romeena. You take care now, you hear?!

Thanks for the holler Chuck. I had dosed off for a bit.

Watched the episode last night where Barney see's Andy and Helen kissing in the jewelry store and thinks they are gonna get hitched. My goodness, there are so many good lines that come out of that one episode, I just love it.
A lot of people lie at lunch, what of it?
It ain't a whim anymore if you put on clean underwear.
Now don't you start crying Aunt Bee, or I'm a goner.
What a dumb trick Barney, nice party, but what a dumb trick.
Great episode. Hope any who are getting snow are coping ok. Hope your tp holds out MT. Ha!
Don't forget your sweethearts this Tuesday fellers. I ordered mine a dozen roses to be delivered to her office on Monday. Yep, I got that little girl in my hip pocket, but it helps to show her I loves her now and again.:)

Have a good Sabbath everyone. Shall we make ice cream later?

Asa

"Barney, don't ever pull a file drawer out that far again!"

February 12, 2006 - Msg 33831: Asa, you're a class act. Sending flowers is always nice, or bringing them home yourself, but there's just something about having them delivered to her office, where all her friends can see...She's gonna love that!

Just got home from church, so glad I went, even though I really didn't feel like it. I managed not to cough on anyone, and washed my hands a lot. The service was wonderful, and I'm so glad I went. "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord."

It's beautiful outdoors today, but cold, in the upper 30's. Guess I'll stay in, though sitting here at this window I see a dozen things I'd like to be doing out there. Oh, well, it'll wait.

February 12, 2006 - Msg 33833: Spot, how come you get all this snow, and we don't here in Texas? I'm in north Texas, lat-itude 32.7N, which is the about the same as the middle of the state of Georgia. There's probably more moisture in the air where you are - we're pretty dry - but still you'd think we'd get more snow than we do. Wonder what causes that?? Oh, send those pictures on, I'll post them.

Good quotes up there, Asa, and you're right. That episode is often sort of overlooked, but it's just full of good ones.

Just watched "The Reluctant Astronaut", and saw lots of Mayberry folk, and the "astronaut", Roy Fleming, bore a striking resemblance to Barney Fife! Looks just like him, and acts a lot like him, even sounds like him. Reckon they're kin? (teehee)

Another bud opened on my "Purple Streaker" iris, I think I'll post it in my Yard and Wildlife album. It's pretty, and shows the differences in flowers growing on the same stalk. Just lovely!

Have a great day, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Chuck, I just may show up at one of your services someday. But I will be wearing my uniform. Want people to see we are on duty 24/7. Plus that collection plate has been getting pretty full.

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33854: Hey homemaker...sorry to hear about your loss. It's tough to lose a member of the family, it doesn't matter what the species is.

Our prayers will be with you and your family...and just in case you haven't seen this...it's helped me in the past.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Me-They

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33856: Oh, homemaker! I'm so sorry to hear about Bandit. Eleven years with a pet is a long time, and they do indeed become members of the family. I've never owned a Boston, but everyone I know who has them seems to adore them. Prayers for you and yours, friend. I can't imagine how sad you must be.

Chuck, Amarillo and Borger are up in the Texas panhandle, several hundred miles from where I live. They get some serious weather up there - blizzards that kill whole herds of cattle sometimes. It never makes it this far, though. Those high plains are a whole different ballgame.

Cold here today, little bit of ice on the birdbaths, but it's clear and beautiful. Hungry squirrels and birds hanging around in the yard, guess I'd better go feed them. My landscaper friend is going to put a few feet of old fencing next to a boulder in my yard, and I bought three grape vines to plant on it. Everyone immediately says how I'll never get any grapes, the birds and squirrels will get them all. Folks just don't get it! That's why I'm planting the grape vines! Not for me, I can buy grapes at the store, but the critters can't. Imagine how they'll enjoy finding fresh grapes this summer. If I get a few of them, I'll consider it a bonus.

Well, off I go, to feed critters and the Plum. Have a lovely day, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

"Whhhthpf! Whofffth! (spits crumbs) Whfff? Whoo? (very softly)" --Gomer (outdors)

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33857: Goober, you're a prince. I might have known you'd have a copy of "Rainbow Bridge." I had planned to send it to homemaker myself, but you already got it done. It's such a beautiful thought, and as you said, has been helpful to me in the loss of a beloved pet in the past. Thanks for sharing it in such a way that we can all benefit from it. --Romeena

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33860: Hey, it's me again. Spot is right, new pictures don't always show up at the end of the album. If you haven't submitted pictures before, then they'll be at the end. If you have, and send more, then they'll be inserted along with your previous pictures, grouped together. If this keeps going, and everyone sends me enough pictures, I could even make sub-albums for each porchster. Spot about has enough in now to do that, but I won't do it unless several of you send in a bunch. Keep 'em coming, folks. It's no trouble at all to do this, and I think it's fun to be able to picture our friends when we're talking to them. --Romeena

Buckeye, as we used to say when we "cruised" Central Ave in Phoenix, "boss car, man." We would also say it was b----in', but i wont say that here! haha Any special reason why you picked 1962? Was that the year you grad-ye-ated?
Groovy man! ha You are about as I pictured you in my "mind's eye," even with a mustache, but i "saw" you with a big handlebar type! Cool barber pole too! Do you remember Superman when it was still on radio? It's a bird, it's a plane...
APB for possum, hazel, boo, dixie, ok girl, and other missing porchsters!
Barney:"Look Andy, a can opener with a little umbrella on it."
Andy: "Huh, great for mother's day."
Barn: "Mother's day?"
Andy:"Yeah, that way she can open cans in the rain and not get her hands wet!" (Big wide smile!)
Anyone know why that episode had a different actor for Ben Weaver?

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33863: Homemaker, You have my deepest sympathy. God bless Bandit. I know how much that hurts, and will for a while. Might I suggest, don't waste time getting another one. It won't replace Bandit, that can't be done, but it sure fills a void. Romeena sent me that about Rainbow Bridge when we lost our Sammy a couple of years ago. What a beautiful thing to read. Way to go Goober.

February 13, 2006 - Msg 33864: Homemaker, sorry to hear about bandit. Asa, we hope to see you someday, but please, please, please leave that pistol at the door! (you can bring your ball of tin foil, though) MDC, I prefer that Ben Weaver over the first one. But I prefer the first "Dud" over the second one. Spot, these ARE crazy hours, aren't they?! February 13, 2006 - Msg 33865: I just re-read my post to Homemaker and realised it doesn't sound how I mean. What I mean to say Homemaker is get a new puppy as soon as you can. It really does help fill the void.

Thanks Chuck, but my peestol is almost part of me. I took a shower last night and was drying off before I noticed it was still on. No wonder my bullets are green!

Answer concerning Ben Weaver above...the actor who played the first Ben (Will Wright) died in 1962. And Hoke Howell played the first Dud Wash.

Sounds like I've missed some good eatin' around here. I'd gained four pounds at my last dr. appt. so I guess I could stand to lay off the grub for a little bit. ; )

MDC, B-o-b D-e-n-v-e-r (is that a dirty word?)is the second Dud. I prefer the first one.
The first Ben fit the part really good, I just like the way the second Ben growls out to our favorite deputy by saying "Baaarrrnnneeyyy". His voice sounds like a cartoon character (Yosemite Sam??)
Spot, did you switch from nights to days? I'll be scared up all night by myself now.

February 14, 2006 - Msg 33890: Good morning everyone. Happy Valentine's Day to all. Anybody have anything extra special planned? Unfortunately, my wife has to work for the next two nights, so we'll only see each other for a few minutes in the morning and about an hour or so over dinner. Thursday night she'll be exhausted from the previous two days, then it's back to work for her on Friday night. So, I guess we'll try to grab some together time on Saturday. But even so, it's still a happy day knowing that I have such a wonderful darling person.

Well, I got my wish for snow this past weekend. Twelve inches. The kid's loved it. Church was cancelled on Sunday--only the third time in seventeen years since we've had this pastor. I was loving it, too, until about the third hour of shoveling. Be careful what you ask for!

AFD: Four pounds doesn't sound like a lot considering what you've got growing inside you! Too many kerosene cucumbers? Hope all is well.

CHUCK: I prefer the first Dud as well. He seemed more "simple," if you know what I mean. That expression on his face when he gets off the bus in the "Darlings are Coming" is priceless. It just cracks me up!

ASA: I'm not too worried about your pistol--after all, chances are that if the trigger is pulled it'll just spring apart. It's those bullets that concern me. Mold is a serious health hazard.

MDC: Me and the Mrs. watched some of the Olympics last night as well. Man, the guys who skate doubles must be eating their Wheaties and spinach. Throwing girls up in the air and catching them while moving on skates (and making it look easy) must take some serious muscle. And those girls must be tough, too. After all, they're the ones who smack that ice time after time until the guy gets that good!

Anyway, stay warm and well feed everyone. The latter shouldn't be too hard with SPOT around on the Porch.

Get out the pointy stick and see if we can coax her out. Er, is that possum eating candy up there above? She may need a den-tist now. Which makes me think of Dennis Quaid's scene in Wyatt Earp about being a dentist. I love that scene. "My profession was a den-tist. I was proud to call myself a den-tist. But I have re-tired. Now I'm a sporting man." That scene cracks me up. My husband gave me a bag of Riesens and I had a couple for breakfast. We're pretty romantic folk around here. Have a great day, everybody!

Good Burma Shave quote, Buckeye! Really cute. Oh, your pictures left here with the snail this afternoon.

Well, off I go to work. Poor little Plum will be all alone again tonight, but then I'll have the next five to stay home and spoil her. She doesn't seem to mind all that much. Just climbs on top of a pile of pillows, or burrows into that silk duvet I brought back from China, and her life isn't too shabby. I even leave the TV on for her, volume low so she can sleep if she wishes, and she has her "piddle-pads" available, so she doesn't have to "hold it" and be uncomfortable.

Have a great evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
