He is doing great tonite and doesn't quite understand that he still needs his foot covered with bandages, etc. when it doesn't hurt.

BTW - I got a new to me car over the weekend. I bought an Oldsmobile Aurora and I love it. It is black (not my favorite color) but I love the leather seats, etc. I am almost up there with Ro! and her caddy!

P.S. Rest in Peace, little Dylan Groene from Idaho.

July 10, 2005 - Msg 29506: Rest in peace - Dylan, you are safe in your Father's hands. . . .

July 10, 2005 - Msg 29507: May I drag out the soapbox for a moment? Thank you.

When, when, when are we going to learn in this country that a leopard does not change its spots, and a child molester, "registered" or not, is not likely to change either? Convicted pedophiles have told law enforcement officials, in their own words, that if they're released they will do it again. How plain must it be? If that wretched creature had been in prison where he belonged, little Dylan would be alive today, his family would be alive, and his sister would not be psychologically and emotionally damaged, probably beyond repair. A person with a mind that is so twisted that he could do the things that man had already done is not very likely to suddenly change and become a loving, model citizen. I know, God changes hearts, but the heart must be willing first, and by their own admissions, most pedophiles are not seeking change.

There are two scourges that are repeatedly re-released upon an unsuspecting, largely defenseless society - drunk drivers and pedophiles. Eventually, they end up committing an offense so heinous that any judge would have a hard time justifying their release and still hope for re-appointment, and they're finally put away for a while. It seems that in this country we can very easily enact legislation that prohibits Christians from speaking their minds lest it be called a hate crime, we can take a law-abiding taxpayer's property away to make room for a shopping mall, we can punish parents who seek to discipline their children, but we can't make laws that adequately punish a drunk who murders with a car, and we can't confine a pedophilic predator for more than a few months. Something is definitely wrong here. Perhaps one of our learned movie stars would care to supply some answers.

Incidentally, my granddaughter worked for a while as a bank teller, and she told me one day about the "registered s-x offender" who used his registration ID card as the ID for cashing checks! When he noticed her expression as she realized what the card was, he got a big laugh out of it, and asked her for a date. After that, he made it a point to appear at her window to cash his checks, always using that card as his ID, and always making embarrassing comments to her. The bank, of course, would do nothing, lest they offend a customer.

OK, soapbox going back under the porch. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 11, 2005 - Msg 29511: homemaker, you sure like to keep the porch nice and neat. thanks
I'll add my 3 cents worth on Ro's soapbox.
I heard Dr Dobson say after his interview years ago with Ted Bundy, just before he was executed, that the s-x drive is the stongest out there, for it is inborn (as compared to alcohol, drugs etc being manmade). It is almost IMPOSSIBLE, without a complete miracle, to change any behavior related to it. That is why it is so crazy to let these people out. I think of the verse from Isaiah, where he says, woe to those who call what is bad, good, and what is good, bad,
take heed the Lord's judgement is at hand.
In our day and age 'perversity' has become Diversity!" Think about it.
Pappa, AZ has a similar law, but it was just recently revealled that DPS computer lost 1000 of them! All info and whereabouts GONE! That's real reassuring!
Ok, bluey goes the box.
On to some mayberry stuff. YEAH!! I watched the county nurse ep last night where Rafe wont take his shot!

I think we should declare Romeena our official county nurse! After all, we have a mayor and a Mayberry deputy and a Rev,ETC and she has all those fine words of wisdom and medical adviCe for us! Whadda ya all think?

July 13, 2005 - Msg 29535: Well, the power people just left. My power lines are now up off the ground and securely attached to a new pole. Old pole is still there, still leaning, because the phone and cable lines are still on it - those folks are supposed to be out this week to move their stuff, then the old pole has to come down. Not sure who does that, or how they're gonna do it, but I don't really care, as long as it doesn't fall on my fence, shrubbery or arbor.

I guess my house is insulated pretty well. I cranked the a/c down, had it about 68 in here when they cut the power. It was off over four hours, and was just up to 74 in the house, which is a tad cooler than I normally keep it! It held up real good. No complaints there, the Plum was quite comfortable.

KY GIRL- For real, if the fluid aint coming out, it could be getting into the crankcase (where the oil is) due to a cracked block, and that aint good! Or it may be going into the transmission via a cracked transmission cooler, which is a small inner radiator inside the big one, and that aint good either, as oil and water and trans fluid dont mix too well!!!
Or if youre using just water instead of a water/collant mix, it may just be plain evaporating!

Trampled three shrubs to bits and left me without DSL, but it's done. This morning the cable guy came and reconnected my DSL, so all is well. Shrubs will grow back, and I'm just glad it's over.

Woohoo! One week from tomorrow, I'll be in a big silver bird, on my way back to Mongolia for two weeks. I can hardly wait! A friend is coming to stay with the Plum, so no problem there. Oh, I'm having a little bench with a step built for the Plum, so she can sit at the window by my desk and see out into the yard. Here she is, ten years old, and has never had her own windowseat. And people say she's spoiled! The nerve.

Well, got errands to run, so off I go. Have a great evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 15, 2005 - Msg 29559: Great to hear your pole problem is fixed Romeena. And the plum is getting her own seat, how sweet. At least while you are gone she can sit and look outside, something tells me you better come home with a big bag of carrots after you are gone for 2 weeks!Ha Ha!MDC,I finally got to send you an email today, let me know if you receive it.Homemaker,so glad your little one is fully recovered.Glad to hear that someone is standing up to these big companies,I think more people need to do that(myself included).I don't know if there is a way to find out what organizations these companies support, does anyone know how to find out?Congratulations Mayberry Deputy, sounds like the wedding will be beautiful.hey to Hazel and Mary Wiggins.Pappa Bear,I can't eat that city food either,I feel like I never ate a thing when I'm done.Give me good old country cookin anyday.Speaking of cooking, spot, that dinner sounds delicious, but, with all the hours you put in at the power company with those storms, you need to listen to pappa bear and take a break.I'm cooking tomorrow nights dinner .We are having breaded pork chops, mashed taters, gravy, collard greens, and pinto beans, sweet tea, cold coke, milk,,and apple crisp for dessert. It'll be ready about 5 o'clock-ky girl

July 16, 2005 - Msg 29567: Howdy, everyone. I just got home from an all-day ladies' retreat at church. Good speakers, good singing, good food, all shared with good friends. It just don't get no gooder'n that!

You all forgive me, but I just have to share this little ditty. It was emailed to me by a friend, and I think it's hilarious. Here goes:

Redneck Love Poem

SUSIE LEE DONE FELL IN LOVE;
SHE PLANNED TO MARRY JOE.
SHE WAS SO HAPPY 'BOUT IT ALL
SHE TOLD HER PAPPY SO.

PAPPY TOLD HER, SUSIE GAL,
YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER.
I'D JUST AS SOON YO' MA DON'T KNOW,
BUT JOE IS YO' HALF BROTHER.

SO SUSIE PUT ASIDE HER JOE
AND PLANNED TO MARRY WILL,
BUT AFTER TELLING PAPPY THIS,
HE SAID, "THERE'S TROUBLE STILL.

YOU CAN'T MARRY WILL, MY GAL,
AND PLEASE DON'T TELL YOU' MOTHER,
BUT WILL AND JOE, AND SEVERAL MO'
I KNOW IS YO' HALF BROTHER.

BUT MAMA KNEW AND SAID, MY CHILD,
JUST DO WHAT MAKES YO' HAPPY.
MARRY WILL OR MARRY JOE.
YOU AIN'T NO KIN TO PAPPY.

Teeheehee! I should be ashamed, especially after I was at the church all day, but admit it, you gotta laugh at that one! Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 17, 2005 - Msg 29585: Turning off unexpected boldness is easy, friends. You just enter the switch "/b", using < and > instead of "'s, of course, but you just do it three or four times. That way, you turn off that "b" that sneaked in up above somewhere when you weren't looking! If you go to "View" and "Page Source" and look at the entries, you can usually find the culprit, but it doesn't really matter. Just a series of off-switches will usually fix the problem.

July 18, 2005 - Msg 29596: Hey to the PORCH...hope everybody is doing well...staying as cool as possible and lovin life big.

Had a great weekend...took the wife to see "Journey" at the lake (no, it ain't the Darlins...but it's tolerable). Great new place there called Northerly Island. It's actually what used to be Meigs field...till the good mayor had his buddies dig holes in the runway overnight. (that sounds like a song...'does your good mayor put holes in your runway overnight?')

Also spent a good part of the weekend reading the new potter book...yea, I know it's not for everyone...but I kind of like it. I actually read the first before I'd let my kids read it...just to be sure...and have been hooked since.

Leaving on Friday for Orlando...can't wait to get a way for a while. Ya'll be good...be careful...and if you can...be careful at being good.

July 18, 2005 - Msg 29597: Hey, everybody! I just had a phone call from a gentleman in TOM's home town! He has been by and actually visited with our resident poet, in person! You'll remember that I wrote a few months back to the pastor of a Baptist church there in Nutter Fort, but never received a reply. There was a good reason for that. The pastor was no longer there, and the church was in the process of finding another. My letter floated around for a while, and finally ended up with one of the deacons, and he's the one who called me.
He's a delightful gentleman, said he had a very nice visit with our TOM, and pretty much confirmed what we know or thought to be the situation. He is willing to continue the contact, and help us decide what we can or should do to help Tom, and in the event we decide to try to get him back online, this gentleman will be willing to help us secure and set up a computer. He's a computer buff himself, so should have no problems. I'll not release his full name online, but we can call him Don. (Kind of auspicious, don't you think?) So there, what do you think of that??? I'm thrilled!

Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 18, 2005 - Msg 29598: Wow, Romeena!
That is wonderful news! I am so glad someone could connect with him and as-sure us he is doing well. Perhaps Don will come and join us on the porch sometime!

Slim, I will definitely pray for your friend. God is in the healing business!

Goober, what would the melody of your new song be sung to?! ;) It is kind of catchy!

Have a great Mayberry evening all!

July 18, 2005 - Msg 29599: That's great news, Ro! Reminds me of that Andy line. "You know what his name was? Don. Wouldn't you know his name would be Don". (when speaking about nurse Peggys friend, the hungry buzzard, Don).

July 18, 2005 - Msg 29600: That's great news, Romeena! So glad to hear Tom is being watched over. I sure miss his poems. Good line, Hazel! I always whine when I'm here about not getting to visit the porch very often, but no oftener than we sweep, it seems others are too busy too? We need to slow down around here. What's your hurry?

July 19, 2005 - Msg 29602: Goober - I am so jealous that you went to see Journey - that reminds me of my college friends. July 20, 2005 - Msg 29606: Mornin', dears! Just checking in - got much to do to get ready for the Mongolia trip. We leave at dawn on Saturday, so I don't have much time. Have to work tonight, sister-in-law from Michigan will be here for a few hours tomorrow evening, and I've not packed yet! House is dirty, the Plum needs a bath, just lots to do. Anyone free to come give me a hand?? Where is Clara Edwards when you need her?
MDC, to answer your question, I assume there is phone availability there. I have the impression that Tom lives in a modest residential area, and surely would have phone lines. I appreciate your willingness to help make this a reality, I know I can count on you. I'm sure we'll have no trouble. I was "taking names" back there when we discussed this before, and I have nine people on the list. I'm sure there are others who will want to participate as well. If enough of us come in on it, it won't be a burden on anyone. I certainly don't want it to be a hardship for anyone, and if it's not convenient for someone right now, no problem. No one can do everything, all of the time. If those of us who can, at the time, will chip in, I think we'll have quite enough.

Well, gotta run. Time to drag out the suitcase and start filling it. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

July 20, 2005 - Msg 29610: Well, silly me. MDC, what you have to know about me is that I take things literally, most of the time. You worded it fine, I just didn't read it right. So now, to truly answer your question, I don't know. Perhaps Don can find that out for us. I'm thinking that they do have it, because TOM did have access at one time. From what he's said, his Web TV is broken. I'm not sure he ever had an actual computer. Anyway, I'm sure Don will get it figured out.
I leave for Mongolia at dawn Saturday, and will return in the evening on August 5. I'm very excited, anxious to get back there and spend some more time with the fascinating Mongol people in their beautiful country. Of course, I'll be equally happy to get back home, I'm sure. I'll probably keep another journal, and will be transcribing it for my family and friends who want to read it. If any of you are interested, just email me and I'll put you on the list. I still have last year's journal as well, if anyone is interested.
