Ky Girl, That's always been one of my favorites. I can still remember him balancing on one foot. As for the snow we're only supposed to get maybe and inch or so. Then, it's back to Spring they say. Ya know, I can't remember 123 Jell-O either.

April 22, 2005 - Msg 28416: MDC, that little doodly between Elsie's horns was a curl. Elsie was, I believe, a Jersey cow, and many Jerseys do have a little tuft of curls on their forehead, more or less between the horns. On some cows it's heavier than on others, but it does give them a rather sweet expression.

Mary Wiggins, I had some friends over tonight, and they were so impressed with my three prints of Pat's work. Whenever you have some snapshots available, I'd really love to see the latest ones. I have a place in my bedroom that just begs for one of his prints.

I had the distinct privilege a while back, of meeting the man who was the original voice of Tony the Tiger. He even said "They're GRRREAAATTT!" for me. He is a regular at a restaurant near my son's home in Florida, and my son had gotten acquainted with him. He introduced us, and I was impressed with how nice the man was, and how he seemed to be so pleased that anyone remembered him. His speaking voice is, as you would imagine, very deep and rich, a basso profundo.

Thanks, everyone, for the prayers for my friend Henry. He had a bad night last night, and wasn't doing as well today as he did yesterday, but he's hanging in there. Please keep praying.

April 25, 2005 - Msg 28438: Hey! I have news. I want to give a testimony please.

When I was young. About 9 or 10 maybe. I went throught the motions of being saved because I knew that I wanted to go to heaven. Well for the last couple of years I have been having troubles in my heart. My heart almost pure hurt. I was confused and felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. I would pray and pray but nothing.... Then God started whispering to me that something was wrong inside. But I ignored it. Nothing was wrong with me I thought. I kept pushing it aside and pushing it aside. But every time we would talk about a cleansed heart I would try to picture mine white and clean but I always saw black holes peeping through. Not to mention I started to wonder if I was going to heaven at all. If you have to wonder about going to heaven you are not going.

I guess I was holding back b/c I didn't know what my church family would think of me. Admitting that I was wrong and living a lie. Pride is a dangerous thing. It almost sent me to the devil. But yesterday in church it finally dawned on me that I was worrying about the wrong person and what they were thinking of me. I swallowed my pride and went forward. I have been saved. Jesus has made me clean I cried like a baby.

Now I tell all of you this because you all have played a part in this. Just your everyday comments have encouraged me and helped me make my decision. Thank you.

:.)

Dixie, what wonderful news you have shared with us! Charlotte's suggestion of reading "Purpose Driven Life" is a great idea. You must be just about done with school for the time being. Congratulations! When I read your posts about all you have been through to get your degree I know how hard you are working! I have a daughter that is going through the same things as you are, as she is going for her bachelor's also, for secondary education. She still has about a year to go, even though she is already 23, because she has been working full time while carrying a full load at school, so it is taking her a little longer. She will get there, though! I am going to start praying right now for God to supply you with a great position somewhere!

MDC, I know the "Welcome back..." was from Welcome Back Kotter. I am not sure about the "Baby have you ever wondered..." quote though.

Ky Girl, We didn't get too much snow last weekend about 6 inches. I think parts of Michigan and Ohio got a foot or so. "Moonlighting" now that was a good show. Do you remember the episode when the union and management had their negotiations. The Union wanted "NO WORK and PAY" and Management wanted "NO PAY and WORK." LOL.

Hey Debs, we resemble that remark. At least I hope so.

April 26, 2005 - Msg 28498: Woohoo! My neighbor got her little Senegal parrot back, and her son, who happens to be retarded, is thrilled. The bird was one of a pair, hand-raised by the young man, and very dear to him. Little Sam had flown about a half-mile, and was found by a workman in a parking lot, exhausted and terrified. The man picked him up and took him home with him, to another Dallas suburb. Last night, leaving work, he saw the flyers my neighbor had posted, called her, and the rest is history. Some stories do have happy endings.

Oh, yes, MD, I do love good westerns. My dad was a big fan, and I grew up with them. "Gunsmoke" has long been a favorite of mine, and I still watch the reruns today. Give me a good shoot-em-up over this "reality" garbage anytime. Like most people, especially people my age, I've lived enough "reality" to fill my quota, and don't need it shoved in my face under the guise of entertainment. I try to give everything a fair shake, and have watched a bit of it, but about ten minutes was all I could handle, and back to TVLand I scurried!

And will someone please catch Farrah, and lock her away somewhere? Let's see - some adjectives here: vapid, vacuous, inane, gratuitous, boring, phony, worthless, silly - and those are the good points.

Ha! With that, I'm off to bed. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 26, 2005 - Msg 28502: Sorry, those first two sentences are from the same show. I really am not looking for the name of the character(unless you want to name him for extra points ;)), but I just blanked it out because it would kind of give the name of the show away.

Oh and CT That's a song in our Baptist Hymnal at church. That was the chorus, the first verse says:

I'm in love with my Savior and He's in love with me. He is with me from day to day, What a friend is He. Watches over me while I sleep hears me when I pray. I am happy as I can be and I now can say..... Somebody loves me answers my prayers. I love Somebody I know He cares. Somebody tells me not to repine. That Somebody is Jesus and I know he's mine!

I couldn't resist putting the whole verse and chorus!

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28522: Ohhh, hahahahah! No offense, ky girl, but your age is showing, honey! You're too young, I'm sure, to remember Glenn Miller, and so you heard something entirely different. I'll bet you didn't get the last line right either, and you would have been in good company. Neither did I or the whole rest of the country, until they made Archie and Edith e-nun-ci-ate very carefully, and we finally heard "Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days." Even I was too young at that time to remember the LaSalle (a car).

Isn't it wonderful how our experiences and memory banks can shape what we think we hear? In the heyday of "Star Wars", how many kids were running around slashing at the air with plastic "Life Savers?" They'd never heard of a light saber, so it became the familiar "life saver." Then, of course, there's the religious bruin who inhabits one of our hymns - "Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear."
I know, I'm nutty, but words fascinate me, and I love to see the funny things that arise from a misunderstood phrase sometimes. My son once asked me to bring home some jinapears, because he wanted to taste one. Jinapear?? Finally, he sang it for me - "And a par-tree-ee jinapear tree." Yep, a partridge in a pear tree. Now here's one on me. I once asked my mom if everyone had a "chinnymore." Whatever it was, I figured it had to be valuable, because there was a popular song that warned "Don't get around my chinnymore." If you're older than 50, you might recognize that as "Don't get around much anymore." My mom laughed about that for years, and of course, told everyone. It used to embarrass me when I was a child, but it doesn't anymore. I think it's funny now.

Well, I'm off to the hospital to see if I can help Henry's wife with anything, maybe take her to lunch. Take care, good friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28523: Hey Y'all! Welcome back to the porch Asa! We sure missed you!
Hey MDC & Ky girl- the song that dissed Neil Young WAS "Sweet Home Alabama." The Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote it in response to Neil's song called "Southern Man".He was rather critical of the Old South in it and Lynyrd Skynyrd retaliated with their song and the famous line" I hope Neil Young will remember.. a Southern Man don't need him around anyhow." And as Paul Harvey would say:"Now you know the rest of the story"- I'm a "Grit"- girl raised in the South, and I HAVE to know these things! Ha Ha
Dixie, that is wonderful news regarding your faith. Thank you for sharing it.
Romeena,I'm happy to hear that the parrot made it's way home and speaking of Farrah,I have been hearing TVLand advertising the SEASON FINALE of "Chasing Farrah"! Yay! Let's hope it doesn't go into reruns! What a waste of space!

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28526: Fantasy Island and Love Boat and Green Acres! That last one is over my head ;)

Romeena, when I was a child I asked my mom what Albuquerque tasted like. She couldn't figure out what I was talking about until I quoted a line from a Glen Campbell song...."By the time I make Albuqueque..." I figured he was cooking it!

Ky Girl, I will be praying for your son. I will also be praying for your friend with the blood pressure problem.

Deb, welcome to the porch! I hope you find your was back here again, only with a more deliberate path!

A friend of mine, who works at a local school as a lunch mother, had a student come up and ask for permission to go to the office. She granted it, but realized she didn't know the student's name. She glanced down at a notebook the girl was carrying and saw the name "Harriet Tubman". When the girl didn't return in a timely fashion she spent the rest of the lunch period asking everyone, "Where is Harriet Tubman!?" (True story, and her husband teaches history!)

Guess I better go now, so I will leave you with these immortal words...

"A horse is a horse of course of course, that is of course unless the horse is the famous ___ ___!

Have a great Mayberry Day all!

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28527: Afternoon Porchsters. I only had time to go back a little ways on this page (got a lot of catching up)...that's great news Dixie. I'm laughing out loud at the mistaken song lyrics.. Great to see I'm not the only one who gets a kick out of that. Just last night I took my family to dinner. One of the songs that came on in the restaurant was "More than a woman" from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. My wife and I both started singing "Bald headed woman" and my kids thought those were the right lyrics. If you don't know that song...nevermind. MDC- Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Green Acres and the last one I'm not to sure on. You got me stumped. Mannix? Rockford Files? The White Shadow? I give up.

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28530: Funny story about "Harriet Tubman", Mary Wiggins! :)

Rev.Jr., good to see you again!

It's been funny watching my daughter Kai lately. She just learned the other day that she can't fly. I don't know what prompted it, but she came up to me flapping her arms and said she was having a hard time flying and asked me why she couldn't fly like a bird. "Because you're not a bird!" I told her. She then thought that maybe if she just flapped her arms harder and jumped a little, she might be able to get off the ground. So here she is running around the house flapping her arms and jumping. She's a riot! :D

-Sterling Holobyte

Oh, and MDC, since no-one else has been able to get that last theme of yours, I think it is some little flash-in-the-pan show called "The Andy Griffith Show", even though the main character was named Andy Taylor, not Andy Griffith. Go figure. ;)

April 27, 2005 - Msg 28531:
Alright Sterling! Regarding Kai's antics, ole Barney would just say "She's a NUT!" haha
Here's a song lyric that I always thought was wierd, til I heard a discjockey explain it:
In the Rascals song Groovin' on a Sunday afternoon, it ends with the line,
"...life would be ecstacy, you and me and Leslie."
Well, I just thought he must mean a daughter,
(certainly not polygamy!) (:
but the lyric is actually
"...you and me ENDLESSLY!"
I never knew that all these years til a few months ago!
