I left two crying children with grandpa this morning - one because his brother picked on him and the other because he thinks he has too much homework and it is my fault that I didn't help him more with it (which is not true). It is a difficult situation - I know that he has learning problems - most likely he is LD - but his daddy refuses to think that there is anything wrong. So I am letting daddy handle the homework. That way - daddy can face the frustration that I have long felt. Unfortunately - daddy is looong gone in the morning when he wakes up crabby. Hopefully with the tonsils coming out - that will help the situation, if not - daddy will have to face the facts that he learns differently.

November 30, 2004 - Msg 25429: Morning eveyone. Hey to County Nurse. I was trying to recall just how long I've been on the porch. I'm thinking 2000 or 2001 was when I first posted. Then the porch disappeared for a time and I didn't know it came back, so I was gone for awhile. As I was looking back in the archives, I looked at Asa's post from 9/11/2001 that morning before the tragedy: "Good mornin porch. It's gonna be a great day. Don't ya just love fall. The morning air is crisp yet it still warms up in the afternoon. The smell of wood burning somewhere off in the distance." How little did any of us know what all would transpire that day! (Hope you don't mind that I replayed that message, Asa.) Alyce, so excited about your house. Keep us posted on the details. As I looked through the archives I noticed people who don't post anymore. I sure wonder what's become of our poet TOM. Spooky Benson and others.
But I'm happy for all of you who are regular posters now. Thanks pipeman, MDC, and anyone else who sent well wishes to my furkid, Hershey. She's much better!

November 30, 2004 - Msg 25435: Alyce, congrats on getting your house. It's nice to see things come together, isn't it. We remodeled our attached garage into a family room last year, and built a detached garage with a MIL quarters/rec room - still working on the last of it, but having it somewhat inhabitable is nice.

Asa - O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas carol, too, followed closely by What Child is This. I also like the Gaither Vocal Band's song, Mary was the First One to Carry the Gospel.

pipeman - don't remember bubbling candles, but have done the popcorn/cranberry thing as well as construction paper chains. Anybody got a theme going on their tree? Mine's pretty much a hodgepodge, but I'd love to have patriotic or snowmen. I'll be showing up at your place for supper too, pipeman - sounds GOOOOOD!

Should have temps in the 40's tomorrow and Thurs - maybe 50 by the weekend! I'll have to break out the suntan lotion and lawn chairs. ;)

First off, thanks to Mrs. Wiley, Pipeman, Mavis, MDC, Romeena and anyone else I missed for the prayers and for thinking about me.
I made it through Thanksgiving, now just one more holiday to go. A lot of you said you were waiting to hear how things went. Well, what did that comic-book guy say on the Simpsons, "Worst episode ever!" Just subst-itute "Thanksgiving" for "episode" and you'll know how it went. I'd give you more detail but I just sent MDC a message about it and I didn't want to dredge that up again right now. Besides, I don't want to clutter up the porch. Aunt Bee doesn't like it when you clutter up the porch. Ok, maybe she never mentioned anything about cluttering up the porch, but anyway....

But I did think about you guys on the porch during my trip and I have to say that it did make me feel better, so thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They really do help!
And thank you Romeena for giving me a laugh with the leg 0'lamb thing.

Talk to you all later, and have a good day!

November 30, 2004 - Msg 25440: she's got a "spit" shine to her, mayor! here's more useless trivia...the much-heralded, critically acclaimed film "Shag, the movie" starring Phoebe Cates, was shot partially in Florence, SC. Most folks think with the elaborate sets, that it must have been shot in Hollyweird. Given the box office success of "Days of Thunder"(filmed a mere 8 miles from Florence) and knowing a "can't miss" formula when they see one, the producers had no choice but to film in this sleepy little southern hamlet. The rest is history. (Actually, that movie probably went to video faster than any movie in history).

It has been a long long day..I went outside at 8:30 this morning when they started on the house and didnt come in until 5:30...Just standing out there in the cold watching them put together the house was so amazing..but it was tiring too. We had lots of visitors too. I thought we would have an accident with ppl riding by and being shocked that all of a sudden there was a house there. It looks so good too. I am very pleased..Oh whoever asked did the house come from Mt. Pilot..that is funny...cause it did come from North Carolina.

Well guys one final down 2 more to go. I finished 3rd tonight. I'm usually one of the last. I either knew my stuff or thought I did. We'll find out next week I guess.

Oh Holy Night is my favorite carol too. I love to hear Nat King Cole's and Perry Como's versions. So pretty....

Well guys.... I'm afraid that my heart is in a bind. Remember that guy that was a manager that my friends wnated me to meet? Trevor? Well. i happened up on him agian this weekend and my Dad was with me. So I introduced them.... weird. Kinda like a meet-the-parents deal. He was so polite and even shook Daddy'd hand and called him "sir" like a good little gentleman. It could have been weird since he never did call but he came up to me. Strange I say...

Anyhoo i've fallen for the guy and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid that the feelings might no be reciprocated (big word 5 points!). No heart breaks please. I've had my share.

Long story.....I just need some guidance so I guess I'll be going to pray for some here in a minute. It just flet good to write it down and get it all out.

Thanks guys for letting me spill my guts.

Thanks you guys for being my good friends.

December 01, 2004 - Msg 25460: Alyce, you've already been given good advice, but I'll second it. Any eye injury needs to be evaluated by a doctor, and I'd be a pretty sorry nurse if I tried to make a long-distance judgment and suggest otherwise. Chances are, everything's okay, but it's not worth the risk.

It's good to hear from you, Sterling, and I'm proud of you for taking the high road. It's so hard to do sometimes, but you'll never regret it. On the other hand, if you get into a confrontation, there's always a good chance that you will say or do something that you will regret. Even though your wife may feel the same way you do, the woman is still her mother, and a small part of her will not like to see her mother put down, however much she deserves it. Just pray for a way to make your own wishes known, gently but firmly, and don't back down. Remain kind and patient, but don't back down. Compromise in every way you possibly can, but set some reasonable limits and stick to them. She'll probably have two or three hissy fits, but ultimately she'll get over them. Have a clear understanding with your wife ahead of time so you can present a united front, and remember that you absolutely cannot lose your temper. Anyone who can make you lose your temper controls the situation, no exceptions. God bless you!

Sometimes she doesn't talk about topics everyone else does and sometimes if she does get on the right topic, she keeps repeating the same stuff. I can see where she can be trying but she's not a mean or spiteful kid. I wish they'd just give her a break. She's very pretty and she has a good heart. I keep praying for her to just find one good friend. Anyway...I need to think about something less depressing. Thank you all for listening. Wonder if she'd find a friend if she lived in Mayberry. I can imagine if she lived in Mayfield (Beaver's town), that mean Judy girl would be one of the ones picking on her! Hope you all have a Mayberry day.

Alyce, V's Secret for your hubby's gift? I'm confused!
P-man, ever watch the Andy Williams Christmas Shows when you were growing up? I sure miss that kind of program. I tried watching the Jessica Simpson show last nite but it sure was not the same at all.(in my humble opinion)tho I am glad they sang some Christian songs.
Has anyone ever heard Joseph's Song? Not too well known, but it is the whole birth etc from HIS perspective!Very neat.
pipeman (and others), with that coffee freezing so fast i bet you do some ice skating and ice fishing too!
Well, we better get these decorations put on the porch and plan the big porch Christmas party!

December 02, 2004 - Msg 25481: CT- Prayers for your daughter. I know how tough it can be on kids. Especially the peer pressure. My daughters are 11 & 12. You can really be surprised by the good in them sometimes. My youngest had enough of other kids teasing this one girl with speech problems, so she stood up to them and told 'em to quit picking on this girl. I've never been prouder. That was about 5 years ago and they've been great friends ever since. So hang in there, all your daughter needs is that one kid to befriend her. That kid is probably out there right now....she's gonna have enough of the other kids being mean and she's gonna step up.

Yes, i also recall those other Christmas specials you mentioned.
Do you remember the time when the friday after thanksgiving was more for the kids than for the almighty dollar?
At the 2 main malls here in the 60's, Santa would arrive in a helicopter, and a whole throng of kids would meet him in the parking lot, lots of carols would be sung and they even had cookies and drinks for all. Nowadays, it's stores opening at 5 am with some cheapo dvd player to lure you in! Sorry to unload, but I sure miss the

December 02, 2004 - Msg 25488: Good suggestion about Christmas, pipeman. Although sitting on the ice for hours at a time feeling like a side of beef in a freezer is not exactly my cup of tea. And I don't drink tea. Well, sometimes I drink peppermint tea, but it has to be decaf. But thank you for the suggestion!
And thank you Romeena for the good advice! Luckily I wasn't born with a bad temper, so that's no problem. Presenting the united front with my wife could be more trickier though, unfortunately.

Prayers for your daughter, Charlotte. I agree with Rev. Jr. and Dixie that your daughter will find a friend or two and that will help alot. She definitely sounds like a good kid! I remember when I was in grade school and this new kid came to class. Well, he had kind of a long and different sounding name(something I could relate to) and when the teacher introduced him and said his name, the other kids laughed and giggled. All except me. Well, when he went to his seat(with the kids still giggling), which was right next to mine, he leaned over to me and said, "well, at least I have one friend." And we were best friends after that.
That's when I discovered that I, a shy kid who didn't talk much, could make friends even by just being nice. So there is definitely a friend waiting out there for your daughter.

Pipeman: yes, we have a little joke around here that Victoria doesnt have any secrets anymore.

MDC: Whats to be confused about? Yes, a gift for my hubby for our anniversary..but the gift is on me! Dont want to get too personal and out of taste..but yea, that is part of my gift to him. We havent been away together alone since our first child was born almost 4 years ago..So it will be a nice surprise.

OH..MDC, I think...I watched the Nick and Jessica show..I think they are cute..them and the shows they do...(but of course that is my generation) Yes, there were Christian songs..her father used to be a preacher man!

December 03, 2004 - Msg 25515: Greetings!

Sorry I haven't been around lately, it's that time of year, donchaknow! I was able to take a little trip up to northern Michigan last weekend after Thanksgiving and all we did there was sit around and play cards! The snow was falling and falling, but we were all snug as bugs sitting in a log cabin in the middle of the north woods. Sure does repair the soul!

Alyce, I bet I know what your tree looks like. They had a commercial on here locally a few years back, where several young children were shown decorating a tree. The camera shots were all done up close, but at the end of the commercial they had a shot of the tree from farther away, and the bottom of the tree was just lovely, but there wasn't an ornament on it above about 3 feet from the ground! So cute!

What happened to Floyd's wife? I must have missed something. I sure hope she is doing okay.

MDC, congratulations on the Cards win this weekend. (I know but I am a little down on my Lions lately!) I am looking forward to watching Ben Wallace play with the Pistons tonight. You all probably saw that awful fight at the Palace a couple weeks ago. Well, that was me, the man in the white hat that threw the cup on Ron Artest, NOT! As you all know, I am just a beautiful little girl who is missing her front teeth! ;)

Asa, regarding message 25495, I am not going to tell you!....and I sure hope you had fun at that concert!

Well, guess I better run, the Pistons are going to be playing in 20 minutes, and I have a few chores yet to do!

December 03, 2004 - Msg 25521: Good evening, everyone. I just got home from a 2-day bus trip with church friends - we went to Marshall, TX and also to Jefferson, TX. Good friends, good food, good shopping. There is a huge pottery in Marshall. I bought some really neat stuff, though none of it is actually pottery! Just some charming Christmas stuff. My neighbor came over and fed little Plum while I was gone, and let her out of the bedroom for a while each time. She was glad to see her mommy, and I was glad to see her!

It's good to see everyone again. CT, I'm sorry that the kids are being mean to your daughter. I wish just one champion would stand up to them, because the whole bunch would soon follow. All it takes is a leader.

Well, I'm going to put my tired bones to bed. I think the Plum is ready for a cuddle, too. Everyone have a great weekend, and Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
